James Dougan

HUBBARD—James
Dougan, 91, of Hubbard, died on Thursday, July 5, 2012, at
the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames from congestive
heart failure.
Funeral services were held on Monday, July 9, at the St.
John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hubbard. Jim was
buried in the Hubbard Cemetery. The Boeke Funeral Home was
in charge of the arrangements.
James Adam Dougan, was
born on March 15, 1921, to Jay A. and Blanch (Stringer)
Dougan on a farm near Buckeye. Several years later the
family moved to Whitten and then in 1931, they moved to
Hubbard. Jim attended and graduated from the Hubbard
Community School in 1940. During his high school years, he
had the honor of playing on the baseball and basketball
teams that advanced to the State Tournaments. He also played
in the marching band that competed in Nationals in
Minneapolis, Minnesota. He worked with his father on their
cream route, started his own milk route and worked in the
local hatchery. On September 27, 1941, Jim married his high
school sweetheart, Gertrude Broer. He was baptized and
confirmed in March 1942 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church,
Hubbard, where he served as an usher and remained a faithful
member.
Jim was drafted into the Army in 1945 and was stationed in
Hawaii. He served 17 months as a Technician Fifth Grade. He
was a member of the American Legion Post #4 in Hubbard. Upon
returning from the service, Jim bought his own straight
truck and hauled machinery from International in Fort Dodge
to International dealers in the area. In May 1949, Jim and
Gert bought the tavern business from Atlee "Stub" and Ruth "Tootie"
Larson, which they owned for 36 years. For 18 years, the
business was on the south side of Main Street and the
remaining 18 years were spent on the north side. Jim also
did carpentry work during the day while Gert tended bar.
After Jim retired in 1985, he helped his son build his house
in Phoenix. He mowed lawns around town and worked at D&B in
Hubbard. He enjoyed visiting his friends in Arizona over the
winters. He cared for Gert for several years before her
passing in 2003.
Those remaining to cherish
his memory include his children, Carole (Ted) Minnick of
Bettendorf, Darla (Dave) Friest of Lutsen, Minnesota, James
Michael Dougan of Phoenix, Arizona, Renae Bohling (best
friend Jon Amundson) of Radcliffe, Kevin (Rita) Dougan of
Ames and Kelly (Kenny) Kyle of Ames; 14 grandchildren,
Martee (Chris) Gibney, Tim (Carrie) Minnick, Ty (Andrea)
Minnick, Matthew (Allison) Gruhn, Jason (Karmen) Gruhn,
Heidi Gruhn, Shawndra (Chris) Henderson, Heath (Tanya) Main,
Johnathan Bohling, Jay Dougan, Brenna Dougan, Bram (Becky)
Dougan, Nicholas (Erin) Topp and Natalie (Michael) Young; 24
great-grandchildren, Taylor, Jacob and Luke Gibney, Adelin
and Maxwell Minnick, Carter, Sawyer and Becker Minnick,
Madison and Gabrielle Gruhn, Trevor, Derek and Tyler Gruhn,
Miles Heags, Bree-Anna and Levi Henderson, Devon Dubendorf,
Kaden and Alexandria Main, Trenton and Kiley Dougan, Caleb
Dougan, Makayla and Samuel Young; step great- grandson,
Scott Henderson; and step great-great-grandson, Grayson
Henderson; two sisters-in-law, Evalyn Mathews of Hubbard and
Frances Broer of New Hampton; 15 nieces and nephews; along
with many other relatives and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gert;
two sisters, Leona Hertema and Agnes Vaughn; and one
brother, Marion "Bud".
Let us give thanks to God for the life and memory of our dad
and as he would often say, “It’s been a little slice of
heaven.”

IOWA FALLS—Curtis D. DeVries, 26, of Iowa Falls and formerly
of McGregor, died on Sunday, July 8, 2012, following an
extended illness.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Monday, July 16,
at 1:00 p.m., in the Steamboat Rock Cemetery at Steamboat Rock.
The Rev. Bruce Baillie will officiate.
Memorials may be given in Curt’s name to the Make-A-Wish
Foundation. The Thornburg–Grau Funeral Home and Cremation
Service of McGregor, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.
Curt was born on November
30, 1985, in Eldora. He was the son of Douglas and Amy Kalvelage DeVries. Curt was a 2004 graduate of
the Anamosa High
School. Following high school Curt attended Kirkwood
Community College in Cedar Rapids. Curt assisted his father
with duties at the Thornburg-DeVries Funeral Home in
McGregor, Lansing and Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. He was
currently enrolled as a student at Ellsworth Community
College in Iowa Falls, studying pre-pharmacy.
He is survived by his father, Douglas and Marilyn DeVries
of Savage, Minnesota; his mother, Amy DeVries of Dubuque; one
brother, Daniel DeVries of Savage, Minnesota; paternal
grandparents, Susan DeVries of Steamboat Rock, Jan and James
Murray of Morehead City, North Carolina; maternal grandparents, Robert
and Jane Kalvelage of Dubuque; and several aunts, uncles and
cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal
grandfather, Calvin DeVries on April 25, 2002.

Ohio—Douglas Ward Filbrandt, 69, of Cincinnati, Ohio,
formerly of Steamboat Rock and Alden, Iowa, died accidently
in his home on Saturday, May 5, 2012.
A memorial service will be
held at 3:30 p.m., on Saturday, July 14, at the First
Presbyterian Church in Steamboat Rock, with Pastor Bruce
Baillie officiating. Burial will follow in the Jackson
Township Cemetery near Owasa. The Creps-Abels Funeral Home
in Eldora, is in charge of the local arrangements.
Douglas Ward Filbrandt, was born in Eldora on August 3,
1942. Douglas graduated from high school in Alden in 1960,
then from Iowa State University with a mechanical
engineering degree in 1965 and was in the Army ROTC. He then
spent two years in the space program in White Sands,
Minnesota. He began employment with the General Electric
Corp. in Cincinnati in 1969 and retired in 2002.
He was a Civil War and
Revolutionary War buff and had a significant antique gun
collection. He also enjoyed skiing, golfing and made several
trips to Europe. Each July he traveled to Raton and Taos,
New Mexico and participated in the National Black Powder
Muzzle Loading Shoot.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto E. and Edith
Ward Filbrandt, formerly of Steamboat Rock.
Surviving is his brother,
James L. Filbrandt of Iowa Falls; sister, Audrey Filbrandt
Rydeen of Osceola, Wisconsin; and nephews, Jeffrey A. Rydeen
of Osceola and Jack D. Rydeen of St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin
and their families.

ACKLEY—Marilyn Leigh Prescott, 79, of Ackley, formerly of
Popejoy, died on Monday, July 9, 2012, at the Presbyterian

with burial in the Alden Cemetery. The Surls Funeral Home of
Iowa Falls is in charge of the arrangements.
Marilyn Leigh Prescott, was born on December 27, 1932, to Ferol and
Ruth (Long) Neely in New Hampton. Marilyn attended the Oakland
Township Schools and graduated from the Popejoy High School.
Marilyn was united in marriage to Alfred Prescott on June
19, 1952, at Camp Roberts, California. She was a member of the Popejoy United Methodist Women and the Flying Farmers of
Iowa.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Alfred; her son, Ron
(Deb) Prescott of Ames; her daughter, Carol (Mark) Hilz of
Argyle, Texas; her brother, Larry (Lois) Neely of Iowa
Falls; her sister, Sheryl (Richard) Orr of Warrensburg, Missouri;
seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother,
Lynn Neely.

away on Monday, July 9, 2012, at the Mercy Medical Center North
Iowa in Mason City.

a.m., on Saturday, July 14, at the First Congregational United
Church of Christ in Hampton. Family will greet friends from
9-10:00
a.m., prior to the services at the church. Rev. John Byrne

She was born on May
5, 1924 in Anderson, South Carolina, to William Lee and Alice (Bray)
Jones. Kay was united in marriage to Roland Edgar Whitesell
on July 18, 1945, in South Carolina. She was a member of the
First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hampton. Kay
loved her family and cherished the time spent with them. She
also loved her pets, especially her cat, Caesar. Kay enjoyed
playing cards with her friends and traveling.
She is
survived by her daughter, Fran (Len) Foland of Geneva;
grandchildren, Kathy (Ron) Paulsen of Woodinville, Washington,
Lee (Jolie) Crawford of Sigourney and Patty (Craig) Mahnke
of San Antonio, Texas; great-grandchildren, Zach and Emma
Paulsen of Woodinville, Washington, Tyler and Levi Crawford of
Sigourney and Lauren and Lila Mahnke of San Antonio, Texas;
step-grandchildren, Michael (Pam) Foland of Cedar Falls,
Michele (Jeff) Simpson of Geneva; sister, Dorothy Lee Flagg
of Frisco, Texas; brother, Jim (Patsy) Jones of Anderson,
South Carolina; along with several nieces and nephews and many
friends.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, William
Lee and Alice; husband, Roland; daughter, Roberta “Bobbi”

ELDORA—Deloris A. Rogers, 76, of Eldora, died at her home
on Wednesday, July 11, 2012, while under the care of her family
and the Iowa Hospice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at
10:30 a.m., on Saturday, July 14, at St.
Mary’s Catholic Church in Eldora, with Father Paul Baldwin
officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic
Cemetery in Eldora. The Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora, is in
charge of the arrangements.
Deloris was born on January 28, 1936 in Fort Dodge, daughter
of Howard and Margaret (Bradley) Otto.
She graduated from the Eldora High School in 1955 and on
June 8, 1957, Deloris was united in marriage to Delbert E.
Rogers at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. They made their home
in Eldora where they raised their family of five children,
Tom, Deb, Mike, Mary and Ed.
She had several places of employment including the Sween Law
Office, Iowa
Light and Power, Infant Seat, Ramco and Hy-Vee.
Deloris was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eldora,
where she sang with the choir, was a member of the St. Mary’s
Altar and Rosary Society and studied with the Agnes Dei
Study Club. Her love of music led her to sing with the Sweet
Adeline’s and the Cecilians and she also served as a Girl
Scout Leader for many years. Her greatest joy came from
family and grandchildren, and she enjoyed cooking for them
and her extended family.
She is survived by children, Tom and Lori Rogers of Des
Moines, Deb and Tom Priske of Eldora, Mike and Kelli Rogers
of Eldora, Mary and Dale Graffunder of Eldora and Ed and
Jamie Rogers of Waukee; sister, Jean (Craig) Baldwin of
Aurora, Colorado; brothers, Dean (Jane) Otto of Kaiser, Oregon
and Ray Otto of Fort Collins, Colorado; and by 10 grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, Delbert on September 25, 2009; her parents;
brother, Joe Otto; sisters, Nancy Sly and Louise Crosser;
and grandson, Tommy Rogers.

Louise Hyland

RADCLIFFE—Louise
Hyland, 95, of Radcliffe, died on Thursday, July 12, 2012,
at the Hubbard Care Center in Hubbard.
Funeral services were held
on Monday, July 16, at the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in
Radcliffe. Louise was buried in the Radcliffe Cemetery in
Radcliffe. The Boeke Funeral Home in Radcliffe, was in
charge of the arrangements.
Louise Hyland, was born on
the family homestead 3 miles southwest of Moorcroft,
Wyoming, on August 18, 1916. She was the only child of Cliff
C. and Ruby (Morris) McGuire. Louise rode her horse many
miles to attend rural schools. She attended the Rocky Point
Rural High School for two years and then completed her
junior and senior years in Gillette, graduating from the
Campbell County High School in May 1935. She returned the
following year for Normal Training. She taught rural schools
in Wyoming, then moving with her family to Derby, Iowa,
where she received her bachelor’s degree in teaching from
Drake University. She continued to teach for 15 years,
mainly in Perry, Des Moines, Marshalltown and her last years
of teaching was in the Radcliffe Public School.
On December 26, 1955,
Louise was united in marriage to Sigurd Hyland in Sioux
Falls, South Dakota, by Rev. Irwin Hyland (Sigurd’s
brother). They lived on the Hyland farm for 32 years and in
November 1987 they built a new house in Radcliffe and moved
to town. For many years they enjoyed traveling throughout
the United States in a motor home and they wintered in the
Venture Out Court in Mesa, Arizona for 26 years.
She enjoyed riding horses, raising and showing Persian cats
and she loved her Chihuahua dogs and showing them in
parades. Louise was very excited to be a great-grandma. She
always had a big smile when MaKenna came to visit and for
almost two years she enjoyed watching her learn and grow.
Louise was very proud to have written a book about her life
called “Growing Up on the Homestead in the Sagebrush of
Wyoming.” She resided in Radcliffe until March of 2011 when
she became a resident of the Hubbard Care Center. She passed
away there on Thursday, July 12, 2012. Louise was a member
of the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and Needle Circle.
Those thankful for having
shared her life include her son, Calvin and his wife, Patti;
one granddaughter, Heather and her husband, Kent Warburton;
one great-granddaughter, MaKenna Warburton, all of
Radcliffe; along with other relatives and friends.
Louise was preceded in
death by her parents; and husband, Sigurd.

FALLS—Gladys Olson, 82, of Iowa Falls, passed away on
Saturday, July 14, 2012, at the Israel Family Hospice House,
Ames.

held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, July 18, at the First
Baptist Church, Iowa Falls, with the Rev. David Schwechel
officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery, Iowa
Falls. Memorials may be directed to the family. The Linn’s
Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel has been entrusted with the
arrangements.
Gladys Mildred Hansen, was born on February 16, 1930 at
Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Gaylord and Vera
(Crosser) Hansen. She attended grade school in Chicago and
the family moved to Iowa Falls when she was 16. She
graduated from the Iowa Falls High School with the class of
1947. She then began her employment with Northwestern Bell
Telephone Company, Iowa Falls. On March 27, 1949, Gladys was
united in marriage to Marion “Mike” Olson at Iowa Falls. To
this union three children were born, Michael “Mike,” Ramona
and Tyler. Gladys continued working as a telephone operator
with Northwestern Bell for 32 years.
She was a member of the
First Baptist Church, Iowa Falls, where she was secretary of
the Sunday School for many years. She was also a member of
the Telephone Pioneers of America. Gladys will be remembered
for being a good mother, grandmother and a great cook. She
will be missed greatly by her family and friends.
Gladys Olson is survived by her husband, Mike Olson of Iowa
Falls; her children, Mike (LeAnn) Olson of Iowa Falls,
Ramona (Derek) Zinkhon of Gainesville, Georgia and Tyler
Olson of Iowa Falls; six grandchildren, Lexie (Dean)
Schlader of Waukee, Paige Deibler of Gainesville, Florida,
Dax Olson of Iowa Falls, Kade Olson of Iowa Falls, Jagger
Olson of Iowa Falls and Zoe Olson of Iowa Falls; and one
great-grandson, Lane Schlader of Waukee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gaylord and Vera
Hansen; an infant sister; and one brother, Ronald Hansen.

Jass, was born on August 9, 1928 in Wilke, Iowa. She
received her education and graduated from the Alden
Community Schools. Margaret earned her teaching certificate
from Ellsworth Community College in 1948. On August 9, 1952,
she married Dean M. Block at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church
in Alden. She was an elementary teacher for Geneva, Hubbard,
Alden, Ankeny, Webster City and the Lake Ozark Community
School systems. In 1975, Maggie was asked by the Webster
City superintendent of schools to teach the Vietnamese
refugees. This was a task she gladly took on. Teaching was a
great source of pride for Maggie, a profession she loved.
Margaret was a member of
the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where she was active in
Ladies Aide and other various church circles and activities.
Survivors include her
husband, Dean Block of Webster City; daughters, Jan (Alan)
Maxon of Webster City and Alice Gerber of Shellsburg;
grandchildren, Dena (Marlin) Rohmiller, Katie (Todd)
Sonsalla, Maggie (Joel) Kennedy and Harrison Gerber, all of
Webster City and Max (Lila) Hamlin of New Orleans,
Louisiana; great-grandchildren, Luke Rohmiller, Jake
Rohmiller and Cora Kennedy, all of Webster City; brother,
Victor Jass of Iowa Falls; sister, Anna Jass of
Marshalltown; sister-in-law, Jill Frazier of Buckeye; and
brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Delbert and Delores Block
of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, J. Vincent
Block; brothers, William Jass and Harm Jass; and
sisters-in-law, Doris Jass and Maxine Jass.

IOWA FALLS—Lucretia M. Glisson, 82, of Iowa Falls, passed
away on Monday, July 16, 2012, at the Ellsworth Municipal
Hospital, Iowa Falls.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, July 21, at the Linn’s
Funeral Chapel, Iowa Falls. Burial will be in the Union
Cemetery, Iowa Falls. The Linn’s Funeral Home Iowa Falls
Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Lucretia Marie Brown, was
born on September 30, 1929 in Cook County, Illinois, the
daughter of Claude Raymond and Mary Pansy (Samberg) Brown.
She attended school in the Chicago area. On November 10,
1956, Lucretia was united in marriage to Donald Earl Glisson
in Cook County, Illinois. To this union two sons were born,
Vinton and Roger. She worked in retail and then became a
certified nurses aide. She loved to help other people and
enjoyed giving people a hard time.
Lucretia M. Glisson is survived by her sons, Vinton (Wendi)
Glisson of Apache Junction, Arizona and Roger Glisson of
West Des Moines; and one grandson, Brandon Glisson of Boone.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Mary
Brown; two sisters, Bonnie Brown and Deloris Reckner; and
two brothers, Raymond Brown and Robert Brown.

HUBBARD—Doris
Clara Boeke, 84, of Hubbard, passed away peacefully on
Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at the Hubbard Care Center.
Funeral services were held
on Monday, July 23, at the Zion United Church of Christ,
with the Rev. Corey Larson officiating. Burial was in the
Hubbard Cemetery. The Boeke Funeral Home of Hubbard, was in
charge of the arrangements.
Doris Clara Boeke, was born in Rushford, Minnesota on July
9, 1928, to Gustav and Marie (Hebrok) Oberhokamp. At the age
of 4, she started country school north of Hubbard being able
to speak German only. Later her family moved to rural
Zearing where she graduated with the Class of 1945. After
graduation she worked for various families in the area.
Doris was confirmed and later married in the St. John’s
Lutheran Church in Hubbard. On December 3, 1947, she wed
Melvin Boeke. After marriage they farmed near Hubbard and
later moved into town when Melvin purchased the
International Harvester Dealership.
Doris was an active member
of the Zion UCC, where she was Cherub Choir Director for
many years and was also a member of the Women’s Legion
Auxiliary. She loved gardening, tending to her flowers and
playing golf and bridge. Melvin and she enjoyed many years
wintering in Palm Springs, California. They also loved
attending all their kids’, grandkids’ and great-grandkids’
activities.
Doris is survived by her
husband, Melvin of Hubbard; her children, Sandra (Terry)
Cowell of Iowa Falls, Peggy (David) Dreier of Sandpoint,
Idaho, Rita (Tim) Dreier of Hubbard and Monty (Karen) Boeke
of Hubbard; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Ruth
Mannetter.

FALLS—John Owen Whipple, 80, of Iowa Falls, passed away at
the Presbyterian Village Care Center on Saturday, July 21,
2012. He had suffered for a number of years from Parkinson’s
disease and complications.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, July 25, at the First
Lutheran Church in Dows, with burial in the Mount Hope
Cemetery near Dows, where six generations of the Whipple
family are interned. The Surls Funeral Homes are in charge
of the arrangements.
John was born at his parents’ home in rural Hardin County,
on November 2, 1931 and was the oldest of Donald and Clarice
Waldee Whipple’s seven children. He attended school in
Wright, Franklin and Hardin Counties. After a stint in the
Marine Corps he returned to Dows and was employed at the
Lambert Lumber Yard. On September 27, 1953, John married
VaDonna Schroder at the Methodist Church in Dows. The couple
was blessed with six children.
John and VaDonna began farming west of Popejoy in 1954. In
1964 he quit farming and went to work as an agricultural
supply salesman for Farm Service (FS) out of Hampton. They
purchased an acreage on the west edge of Popejoy in March
1965, where they remained for the next 44 years. John
retired from FS in 1994. After the sale of their Popejoy
property they bought a house in Iowa Falls in November of
2008.
John was a member of the First Lutheran Church at Dows, the
Franklin County Republican Party, Elks Club, Farm Bureau and
American Legion. John and VaDonna enjoyed camping and
traveling in their camper. They visited a great deal of the
United States. For a number of years after John’s retirement
they enjoyed “snow birding” in the South and Southwest until
John’s health became an issue. John was a family man who
loved camping, traveling, fishing and especially loved and
enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed by his family.
John leaves behind his wife, VaDonna, five children and 13
grandchildren. John L. (Belinda) Whipple of Des Moines and
family, Timothy (Anna) Whipple, Amber (Steve) Kaiser and
Elizabeth (John) Reddell; Valerie (Dale) Maas of Popejoy and
family, Daniel (Libby) Maas and Lisa (Tom Mortice) Maas;
Wade (Debra) Whipple of Wentzville, Missouri and family,
Chad (Kelly) Whipple, Ryan (Leah) Whipple and Brooke
Whipple; Neil (Jan) Whipple of St. Charles, Missouri and
family, Amanda, Trevor, and Blake Whipple; and Rob (Kay)
Whipple of Indianola and family, Cameron and Deidre Whipple.
John and VaDonna also have eight great-grandchildren. John
is survived by six siblings, Chester (Shirley) Whipple, Gene
(Sheilia) Whipple, Dennis (Beverly) Whipple, Janice (Chuck)
Eckstein, Pam (John) Jass and Sherri Klein.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; and
one infant son, Wayne.

FALLS—Martha Meyer, 96, of Iowa Falls, died on Tuesday, July
24, 2012, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, July 28, at the Immanuel
Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls, with burial in the St. John’s
Lutheran Cemetery in Garner. Memorials may be directed to
the Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Surls Funeral Home in Iowa
Falls, is in charge of the arrangements.
Martha Meyer was born on
June 20, 1916, to Henry K. Anderson and Marie (Nelson)
Anderson in their home in Hanlontown. She was baptized on
July 16, 1916, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Hanlontown,
where she was later confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Martha
attended a one room school before transferring to Hanlontown
Public for the remainder of her elementary and high school
years. She attended Waldorf College in Forest City on a
scholarship and by washing dishes. Martha graduated with an
associate’s degree in 1935 and as a member of Phi Theta
Kappa. She taught for a year in a one-room school in Cerro
Gordo County, one year in a one-room school in Danville
Township in Worth County, and two years as the sixth-grade
homeroom, math, geography and PT teacher in the Terril
Schools. Martha completed summer work at Iowa State
Teacher’s College. Martha met the Rev. Clarence G. Meyer in
Walther League and they were married at Grace Lutheran
Church in Hanlontown on June 18, 1939. They lived in Sanborn
until 1942 when they moved to Ulmer. During World War II,
Rev. Meyer served the Lake View congregation. In 1946, the
family moved to Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Van Meter
where he served until 1958. That year, he was called to St.
John Lutheran in Reinbeck where he served until his
retirement in 1971. So that Martha might care for her
parents, they moved to Clear Lake. In 2004, after her
husband’s death, Martha moved to Cedar Ridge in Iowa Falls
where she was closer to family. Her final earthly home was
Heritage Care Center.
Martha was an active member of the Women’s Club, Ladies Aid,
LWML, library reading club, Walther League as a young adult
and Camp Okoboji. It was Martha’s husband who helped
purchase and start the Lutheran church camp where he served
as secretary. What mattered most to Martha was her faith.
Martha leaves a legacy of
faith to her children, Roberta (Gary) Minish of Plano,
Texas, Don (Jeannie) Meyer of Stanford, California, Ruth
Krueger of Spring, Texas and Ted (Jackie) Meyer of Falcon
Heights, Minnesota; grandchildren, Jeff and Mary Angela of
Houston, Texas and daughters, Clare and Mary Grace, John and
Jan Meyer and their children, D’Mitri and Roxanne of Dana
Pointe, California, Ted of Los Angeles, California and
Andrew and Edward Meyer of Stanford, California, Andy and
Jackie Krueger of Houston, Texas and daughter, Jessica;
Katie Krueger of Fort Calhoun, Nebraska and son, Drew, April
Krueger of Cypress, Texas and sons, Conner and Daniel Jr.
and Sarah and Brad Untiedt of Austin, Texas, Julia and
Justin Stanley of Iowa City and children, Callie and Tyson,
Ben Meyer of Falcon Heights, Minnesota; and Martha’s dear
friend and caretaker, Vicki Hoversten.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Clarence
G. Meyer; her parents, Henry K. and Marie (Nelson) Anderson;
two brothers, Robert and Harry; and one grandson, Dan.
To God be the glory for all that He has done through His
daughter in Christ, Martha Meyer.

IOWA FALLS—Patricia
Loraine Baldwin, 74, formerly residing in Culloden, West
Virginia and now of Iowa Falls, died on Saturday, July 28,
2012, at the Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center.
Interment will be on
Monday, August 6, in a private service for family members in
the Union Cemetery in Iowa Falls. The Surls Funeral Homes is
in charge of the arrangements. A memorial service
celebrating Pat’s life will be held at the Iowa Falls United
Methodist Church, sometime in October. Her many friends will
be invited.
Pat was born on April 4,
1938 in Washington, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Charles
and Sarah (Enlow) Scott. She graduated from the East
Washington High School and had a 25-year career as a flight
attendant with Northwest Airlines, now Delta Airlines. On
June 4, 1983, Pat was united in marriage with Richard L.
Baldwin at the Methodist Church in Bethel, Connecticut.
Following Mr. Baldwin’s retirement, the couple spent a
number of years traveling extensively throughout the United
States in their motor home and made lots of friends in
several states in which they resided.
Patricia was a faithful member of the United Methodist
Church. She was also a lifelong lover of animals and in
addition to having numerous dogs and cats of her own, was
active in various local organizations that rescued,
sheltered and adopted out dogs and cats. Pat was an avid
supporter of the Pittsburgh Steelers and enthusiastic
follower of the NFL. She and her husband watched the
Steelers play every game they could and, at last count, had
watched them play via satellite in at least six states.
Pat is survived by her
husband, Richard of Iowa Falls; two step-sons, Richard L.
Baldwin Jr. of Honolulu, Hawaii and James E. Baldwin of
Tamuning, Guam; and two step-grandsons, Curtiss and Conor
Baldwin of Honolulu.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three
brothers, Chuck, Tom and Bob Scott.
