NEW HAMPTON - A Mass of Christian Burial for Stephen L. "Boobie" Adams of New Hampton was held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 10 at Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph Center in New Hampton. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery with military honors conducted by the New Hampton American Legion Post #38 and the V.F.W. Post #5238.

Friends greeted the family from 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in New Hampton where there was a 6:30 p.m. Scripture Service. Visitation continued an hour prior to the Mass at the church on Friday.

Stephen, 74, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 7, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.

Donald Praska, 78

CRESCO - Funeral services for Donald J. Praska of Cresco will be held at 2:00 p.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Lourdes.

Visitation was held from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 14 at the Conway Funeral Home in Cresco with a Rosary at 5:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Donald, 78, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010 peacefully in his home surrounded by family.

Donald J. Praska was born Nov. 23, 1932, in Elma, the son of Louis K. and Florence (Clynch) Praska. Don attended rural school and assisted with farming operations before entering the Army where he served from 1953-1955.


On Sept. 4, 1956, he married Angela Blong at St. Joseph's Church in Cresco. They resided in Waterloo for a short period of time with Don working at John Deere. Don began his farming career in April 1957, moving to his present farm in 1964.

In his spare time Don enjoyed fishing and spending time with family, especially his nine grandchildren. Don also enjoyed coffee with friends and had a keen interest in all types of farm equipment.

Survived by his wife of 54 years, Angie; daughter: Sheryl of Brussels, Belgium; sons: Mark (Kathy) of Longmont, Colo., Gary (Paula) of Eagan, Minn.; Dean of Denver, Iowa; David (Lisa) of Appleton, Wis.; Wayne (Angie) of Cresco and daughter: Janet of St. Paul, Minn.; grandchildren: Megan, Bethany, and Aaron Praska; Lauren and Kelli Praska; Jacob Kirchner, Dylan and Dalton Praska; and Saul Praska; one sister: Gloria Drilling of New Hampton; brother: Gerald (Elverna) of Lawler; sister-in-law: Darlyne Praska of Iowa Falls; and nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Francis and Leo; and brother-in-law: Arnold Drilling.

Clem Kapler, 99

CRESCO - Funeral services for Clem R. Kapler of Cresco were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010 at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Cresco.

Visitation was held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday at the Conway Funeral Home in Cresco where there was a parish vigil service at 6 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 p.m.

Clem, 99, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2010 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco where he has resided since 2005.

Clem Richard Kapler was born June 1, 1911 Northwest of Cresco in Howard County, the son of Adolph and Catherine (Ferrie) Kapler. He received his education at St. Joseph Grade School in Cresco. Clem stayed at home and helped farm until he had to start working on his own because of the Depression. He was a farmhand in South Dakota, went to Montana and then Illinois and was a bee keeper. Finally he returned to Cresco and started working for Farm Service. Clem ran the F.S. tank truck delivering fuel to many farmers. He knew almost everyone in the county.


On Oct. 27, 1945, he married Margaret Goldsmith at Earlville, Iowa. They lived in Cresco where he remained active in his work, for the community and his church. Clem served on the City Council, he was the Howard County representative on the N.E. Iowa Tourism Council, he served as the chairman of the Howard County Historical Society, he was on the Board of the Evans Memorial Home, served on the Calvary Cemetery Board and still found time for his pastime of square dancing. Clem was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Davis Assembly of Ossian, and the Howard County Farm Bureau. He was an outdoors person, who enjoyed hunting, fishing, caned more then 300 chairs for people in Cresco and would go for a walk in the woods up until his late 70s.

Clem is survived by two daughters and their families: Anne and Jim McCallum of Atlanta, Ga., Jane and Garon Smith of Missoula, Mont.; four grandchildren: Charles and Edward McCallum and Kinnerly Smith Croisant and Amy Smith; one sister: Zinetta Eckerman of Waterloo; and two brothers: Norbert of Ft. Atkinson and Francis of Waldorf, Md.

He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret; his parents; two brothers: Raphael in infancy and Urban Kapler; and two sisters: Marguerite Fitzpatrick and Geneva (Sister Elwyn).

Eloise Gesell, 92

ELMA - Funeral services for Eloise A. Gesell of Elma were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Elma with Pastor Ryan McDermott officiating. Interment was in Howard Cemetery at Elma.

Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday at the Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in Elma. Visitation continued on Saturday at the church one hour prior to services.

Eloise, 92, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010 at Colonial Manor in Elma.

Eloise Armina McFarlane was born Jan. 28, 1918 the daughter of Ralph and Elsie (Cooper) McFarlane in Oelwein. After the family moved to the Cresco area Eloise attended country school and graduated from eighth grade in Cresco. She then moved with her family to Flint, Mich. for one year before moving to the Riceville area where she graduated from Riceville High School.


In 1937 Eloise was united in marriage to Le Roy Cable. To this union two daughters were born, Irene and Elsie. The couple later divorced. Eloise taught country school at the Howard #7, Grover, and Schmidt schools. In 1952 she married Arnold Gesell and lived on a dairy and hog farm north of Elma. She taught at Riceville Elementary School and also furthered her education at UNI in Cedar Falls. Arnold and Eloise moved to the Osage-Rudd area. After Arnold's death she moved back to Elma in 2001. Eloise moved to Colonial Manor in 2007.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church near Osage, later becoming a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Elma and was a member of the Garden Club. Eloise had many diversified jobs, Master Gardener, Amway sales, and raised purebred Spotted Hogs. She especially loved her flowers.

Eloise is survived by two daughters Irene Lund of Elma and Elsie Tank of Chandler, Ariz.; grandchildren: April (Dean) Buls, John (Pam) Lund, Yvonne Lund, Brian (Brenda) Lund, Sean Lund, Connie (Todd) Murray, Deb (Don) Reid and Lori Tank; great-grandchildren: Vincent (Karen) Buls, Alexander (Ashley) Buls, Jennifer Buls, Amanda and Nicholas Lund, Nathan Lund-Merkel, Cory Lund-Harms, Patrick and Phillip Lund, Cameron, Kelty and Grant Murray; great-great grandchildren: Austin, Ashton and Addyson; sisters: Shirley Ball and Eileen (Pat) Ball, both of Gramby, Mo.; sisters-in-law: Bonnie McFarlane of LeRoy, Minn., Mary McFarlane of Tallulah, Wash. and Donna McFarlane of Willard, Wis.

She was preceded in death by husbands: Le Roy Cable and Arnold Gesell; her parents; brothers: Irvin, Gerald, Arnold, Donald and Laurel McFarlane; sister-in-law: Doris McFarlane; and brother-in-law: Don Ball.

Hope Souhrada, 91

LIME SPRINGS - Funeral services for Hope Souhrada of Lime Springs will be held at 11:30 a.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco. Interment will be held in the spring at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lime Springs.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church on Wednesday.

Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco is handling the arrangements.

Hope, 91, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco.

Danny Burr, 46

GILPIN COUNTY, CO - Graveside services for Danny R. Burr of Gilpin County, Colo. were held on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010 at New Oregon Cemetery in rural Cresco. Pastor Mike Carey officiated.

Danny, 46, died at his home in Gilpin County, Colo.

Danny Ray Burr was born April 14, 1964 in Cresco, the son of Donald and Lucille (Bechtel) Burr. Danny grew up on the farm east of Cresco and graduated from Crestwood High School with the Class of 1982. He loved the outdoors and felt right at home in the mountains of Colorado. He drove truck for a freight company.

Danny is survived by his mother, Lucille of Cresco; four brothers: Richard (Patty) of Cresco, David of Chester, Va., Larry (Bonnie) of Cresco, Jerry of Medford, Ore.; and one sister: Donna Burr of Minneapolis, Minn.


He was preceded in death by his father, Don Burr.

LIME SPRINGS - Funeral services for Anna L. Jones of Lime Springs were held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 27, 2010 at the Lime Springs United Methodist Church in Lime Springs. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lime Springs in the spring.

Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco handled the arrangements.

Anna, 91, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010 at the Cresco Care Center in Cresco.

Anna Lucile Jones was born on May 18, 1919 in Lime Springs, the daughter of Henry and Mary (Evans) Meyers.

LaVerne Kach, 85

HARMONY, MN - Funeral services for LaVerne Kach of Harmony, Minn. were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 27, 2010 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco. Interment was in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco.

LaVerne, 85, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010 at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah.

LaVerne Kach was born Feb. 23, 1925 in Ord, Neb. the son of Phillip and Esther Kach.

Harold Anderlik, 87

SARATOGA - Funeral services for Harold C. Anderlik of Saratoga were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010 at the Saratoga Presbyterian Church in Saratoga. Interment was in Saratoga Cemetery.

Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco handled the arrangements.

Harold, 87, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010 at the Cresco Care Center in Cresco.

Harold Charles Anderlik was born March 28, 1923, the son of Charles W. and Anna (Lomica) Anderlik. He grew up near Hayden Prairie, rural Chester, Iowa, and graduated from Chester High School in 1941.


On Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, 1952, he married Mildred Y. Williams in the Lime Springs Presbyterian Manse. Harold's lifelong occupation was farming. He had a particular interest in all things mechanical. He specialized in tinkering with engines that others considered a lost cause and making them run like new again. He had a superb memory for names and numbers, and he associated significant family events with activities on the farm. He loved to tell stories of his younger years such as shoveling snow alongside his dad out of their long driveway and then shoveling their way back again, driving the first of a particular tractor model off the railroad car to the local dealership, filling a neighbor's barn with hay on a single summer day or helping on a threshing crew during fall harvest.

He had a deep sense of compassion for anyone in need and was always among the first to help an ill or injured neighbor. Harold was a lifelong member of the Saratoga Presbyterian Church where he and Millie raised their family.

Harold is survived by his wife, Millie; three children: Jerry Anderlik of Riceville, Jean (Bruce) Smith of Kansas City, Mo. and Jeff (Josephine) Anderlik of Waynesville, Mo.; five grandchildren; two step-grandsons; one great-grandson; one sister: Marian Anderlik of Cresco; one brother: Bob (Pat) Anderlik of Boone; and many nieces and nephews.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents.
