Wilma M. Taylor

Wilma M. Taylor, 99, of Charles City, Iowa, died Monday, September 30, 2013, at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah.

Funeral services for Wilma Taylor will be held 11 a.m. Monday October 7, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City. Pastor Jim Beranek will officiate. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service Monday at Trinity United Methodist Church.

Wilma Mae Taylor was born May 4, 1914, the daughter of Harry and Marie (Hausman) Howard. She was educated in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School. After graduation, she was employed as a cashier and bookkeeper. On June 14, 1933, Wilma was united in marriage to Wayne W. Taylor. The couple farmed near Rockford and Nashua until 1941 when they purchased a farm south of Charles City.

In 1981, they retired from farming and moved into Charles City. Wilma was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Pythian Sisters, Floyd County Historical Society, Business and Professional Women, Help A Neighbor and Chat a Bit Club. She was also a charter member of the Charles City Art Association. Wilma volunteered as a 4-H Leader and was employed as an opinion writer for "Wallace's Farmer Magazine" for 20 years.

Living family members include her son Ronald and wife Nina of Decorah; five grandchildren: David Taylor and wife Karen of Tiburon, Calif., Steven Taylor of Norwalk, Brian Taylor and wife Brenda of Decorah, Robert Oakland of Minneapolis, Minn. and Crystal Griffen and husband Jesse of Charles City; six great-grandsons: Blake, Brock and Aaron Taylor, Dominick and Rusty "RJ" Barker and Dyllan Griffen; five great-granddaughters: Amanda, Gracia, Payton and Rachel Taylor and Paulina Oakland; three stepgrandchildren: Elizabeth, Brad and Patrick Peterson; two stepgreat- granddaughters: Katrina and Evelyn Peterson; two nieces: Juanita and Kathy; along with other family members and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Marie Howard; husband, Wayne; son, Gary; and her two sisters: Kathryn Howard and Delores Norris.

Karen Younie

FORT DODGE, IOWA - Funeral Services for Karen Younie, 64, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. Burial will take place in Rockford, Iowa, at Riverside Cemetery at 4 p.m. Visitation will be after 11 a.m. on Friday, October 4, 2013, at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson, Iowa, with the family present to greet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Visitation will continue at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2013, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. Memorials may be given to Greene County School District in the name of Karen Younie.

Karen Younie, daughter of Sylvan and Thelma Kock, was born, April 27, 1949. She is one of four children born to this union. Karen peacefully passed away of cancer on October 2, 2013, at her home surrounded by loved ones.

In 1973, Karen was united in life and marriage to Robert A. Younie in Charles City, Iowa. They are the proud parents of three children and grandparents to seven grandchildren. Karen was active in philanthropic, community service and church roles.

Karen was an educator for 42 years. Middle level principal in Jefferson-Scranton for three years, Karen was previously principal at the high school. She was the first female building principal in the history of the district. Prior to being named the high school principal, she was the high school counselor for several years.

Karen's experiences also include serving as high school counselor at Manson-Northwest Webster, middle school English/language arts teacher and coach at Northwest Webster, where she started the volleyball program and middle school English/language arts teacher and coach at Lake Mills. She is a graduate of Wartburg College and earned her counseling degree from Morningside College and her administrate degree though Drake University.

Karen is survived by her husband Robert of Fort Dodge; children: daughter Erin (Cory) Jenkins (Amani and Joshua) of Johnston, Iowa; son Michael (Cori) Younie (Kellen, Bryce and Hadley) of Aurora, Ill.; daughter Jennifer (David) Suchan (Leland and Bella) of Waterloo, Iowa; father Sylvan Kock, mother Thelma Kock, sisters: Carma Hillman, Brenda (Dick) Dight, Sherrine Bundt.

She was preceded in death by grandparents: Charles and Ada (Smith) Kock and Orvel and Mildred (Daake) Kielsmeier, brother-in-law Danny Hillman; nephew Kyle Dight.

Robert Benjamin Woolworth

CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Robert "Bob" Woolworth, 78, of Charles City, died Thursday, October 3, 2013, at the Floyd County Medical Center.

Robert "Bob" Woolworth

Robert "Bob" Woolworth, 78, of Charles City, died Thursday, October 3, 2013, at the Floyd County Medical Center.

Funeral services for Bob Woolworth will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Garden rural Charles City.

Robert Benjamin Woolworth "Wooly" was born October 12, 1934 at Beach, North Dakota, the son of Chauncy Isaac and Lillian Electa (Skelton) Woolworth. He was educated in Charles City graduating from Charles City High School. Bob began working at Oliver Equipment in Charles City before joining the Army. While he served two years in the Army as an Engineer Supply Specialist, Bob earned the sharp shooter medal. When Bob returned home he continued working at Oliver/White Farm Equipment where he was a member of UAW.

On June 29, 1963 he was united in marriage to Anna Mae Lillick at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Charles City where they raised their family, and Bob continued his career at Oliver/White Farm Equipment for 39 years and 11 months. He was one month short of 40 years when the company shut down. Bob was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. He gave great "horseback" rides, enjoyed playing solitaire, taking walks, playing with kitties Burt and Gabby, watching the Hawkeyes play, many other baseball, football and basketball games, listening to Rock 'n Roll (especially Elvis), fixing clocks and lawn mowers and drawing scenery and characters. Bob particularly loved going on his Sunday afternoon drives, even sometimes Saturday, to look at the car lots with Scott.

Living family members include his wife Anna Mae of Charles City; son, Scott A. Woolworth of Charles City; daughter, Kim Ann Woolworth (special friend Troy Meerdink) of Charles City; sister, Alice (Dean) Abbott of Ridgeway; brother-in-law, Walter Fluhrer of Charles City; sisters-in-law, Barb Woolworth, Lois (Fred) Meyne and Phyllis (Keith) Hillis; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chauncy and Lillian; step-mother, Williamine; brother, Eugene; and sister, Colleen Fluhrer.

Vern N. Morische

Vern N. Morische, age 87, of Rudd, entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 4, 2013, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 7, 2013, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1921 317th Street, south of Osage, with Pastor Byron Northwick officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery with a flag presentation by Osage American Legion Post 278. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Vern was born December 15, 1925, in Osage, Iowa, the son of John and Emma (Dieterich) Morische. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church. Vern graduated from Osage High School in 1942. He entered the U.S. Army and served in Germany during the Korean Conflict. On November 25, 1956, he married Eilene Muller at St. John's Lutheran Church. They farmed and raised their family in rural Rudd. Vern was a member of the Osage American Legion. He was also a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he served in many capacities. He also served on the Faith Lutheran Home Board. Vern enjoyed card club and reading. He had a great love for his family, and especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Vern is survived by his children, Karen (Walter) Cheeseman of Grundy Center, Marilyn (Leon) Fahrmann of Alexander, John (Julie) Morische of Rudd; 11 grandchildren, Ryan (Lacey) Cheeseman, Brent (Karrie) Cheeseman, Emily (Tommy) Wedmore, Jennifer Fahrmann, Garrett (Natalie) Fahrmann, Carrie Fahrmann, Rebecca Fahrmann, Benjamin Fahrmann, Bethany Morische, Kimberly Morische, and Jeffrey Morische; five great-grandchildren, Cael, Blake and Maegan Cheeseman, Riley and Kinsley Fahrmann; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eilene Morische in 2011; and a sister, Loras Troge.

A memorial service for Dennis "Buck" Schriever will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Marble Rock. Pastor Judy Wooton will officiate.

Dennis George Schriever was born June 7, 1952 in Charles City, Iowa, the son of Benjamin and Genevieve (Kornegor) Schriever. Dennis farmed by Rockford for about 25 years for Darrell Bass then went to work at QPP in Austin Minn. for seven years. He then worked at Woodharbor in Mason City for five years before retiring. Dennis loved spending time with his kids and grandkids and enjoyed being outside junking.

Living family members include his wife, Nancy of Marble Rock; daughter, Heidi (Juan) of Iowa Falls and their children Marco, Allie, Brianna and Christian; son, Chad (Jamie) of Marble Rock and their children Jaylah and Peyton; five brothers: Gary of Rockford, Larry (Carol) of Floyd, Ronnie (Bonnie) of Marble Rock, Jim of Marble Rock and Danny (Rhonda) of Lake Mills; sister, Marge Swedberg of Rudd; along with nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Ruth E. Krueger

Ruth E. Krueger, 96, of Charles City, died Monday, September 30, 2013, at Cedar Health.

A private family graveside service was held at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Ruth Evelyn (Skyrme) Krueger was born March 22, 1917, in Angus, Nebraska. Her family moved to Charles City in 1928, when her father, D.J. Skyrme, became treasurer of Dr. Salsbury's Laboratories. Dr. Salsbury was D.J.'s brother-in-law. Ruth graduated from Charles City High School in 1935. On June 25, 1937, she was married to Lester Otto Krueger, who died on December 1, 1973. Ruth was a bookkeeper for Krueger Oil Company until 1946 and then became bookkeeper for Farm Service Co-op and worked there until her retirement.

Ruth was involved in many various forms of senior volunteer work and also very involved in her church. She helped with the Wa-Tan-Ye Club, the Treasure Chest and Meals on Wheels. Ruth started going to the Wesleyan Church in the late 1930s and eventually became church treasurer and served in that capacity for over 40 years. She also had a very good singing voice and was involved in the church choir for many years. Ruth loved the Lord and lived for Him.

Living family members include her only son, Lester Dean and wife Martha of Rio Rancho, N.M.; two grandchildren: Thomas I. Krueger of Frankfurt, Germany and Sandra Jean Krueger of Albuquerque, N.M.; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester.

Robert Lee Scott

Salvation Army Major Robert Lee Scott, 66, of Westfield, Ind., died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, in Westfield, Ind.

He was born Dec. 13, 1946, in Trumann, Ark., the son of Theodore and Bonnie Scott.

At age 12, he was baptized in the Nazarene church and as a teenager began working for The Salvation Army Temple Corps Community Center in St. Louis, Mo. After attending worship services, he decided to enroll as a senior soldier in the church, which set the stage for a 45-year career as a pastor, spiritual leader, counselor, disaster response specialist, strategic planner and executive with The Salvation Army.

In 1968, Scott entered The Salvation Army College for Officers Training in Chicago and was ordained and commissioned as a lieutenant in the faith-based organization.

He married Capt. Alice Mantle of Lafayette, Ind., on June 28, 1969, and subsequently served in the command of Salvation Army corps in Creston, Charles City, Clinton, Dubuque, Davenport and Des Moines, Iowa.

Scott served Salvation Army appointments in Milwaukee and Sheboygan, Wis.; Ann Arbor, Saginaw, Southfield, Midland, Bay City and Lansing, Mich.; and Munster and Fort Wayne, Ind.

He later served as development director with The Salvation Army Indiana Division headquartered in Indianapolis; Capital Area Commander of The Salvation Army in Lansing, Mich.; and development consultant with the Salvation Army Western Michigan-Northern Indiana Division headquartered in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Scott entered honored retirement from The Salvation Army on Sept. 1, 2012.

He led local Salvation Army churches, their congregations and community centers. He specialized in local board recruitment, development and engagement and fundraising initiatives. He later served in state and divisional leadership roles, guiding fundraising, board recruitment and overall church growth.

Scott graduated from O'Fallon Technical High School in St. Louis, Mo., and earned a major in business. He attended Mt. St. Clair College, University of Wisconsin, Lakeland College and Indiana University, from which he earned a Certification in Fundraising Management.

He was active in the Rotary Club and ministerial services.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years; son Jason Scott of Muncie, Ind., daughter Amanda Scott of Indianapolis; brother Bobby James Scott and sister Martha Scott, both of Barnhart, Mo.; sister Ann (Malcolm) Davis of Jemison, Ala.; one nephew, Kenneth Scott; and one niece, Bella (Benjamine) Graffam.

The family expresses its grateful and sincere appreciation to the leadership and staff of Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation Center (Bridgewater) and The Salvation Army Eagle Creek Corps Community Center in Indianapolis for tremendous support during his illness.

Viewing will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, at Leppert Funeral Home-Nora Chapel, located at 740 E. 86th St. in Indianapolis.

A memorial service officiated by Salvation Army Major Ralph Hansen will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at The Salvation Army Eagle Creek Corps Community Center, 4400 N. High School Road in Indianapolis.

A committal service will later be held at Tippecanoe Memorial Gardens in West Lafayette, Ind., with services conducted by Salvation Army Major David Biggs.

Daniel D. "Danny" Janssen

Birth: July 31, 1950
Death: October 7, 2013

Service Date: Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City at 2:00 p.m.

Daniel "Danny" D. Janssen, 63, of Nashua, passed away peacefully, Monday, October 7, 2013, at his home with his family by his side.

A graveside service for Danny Janssen will be held Saturday, October 26, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City.

Daniel Dean Janssen was born July 31, 1950 at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City, the son of Elmer and Dorothy (Rodamaker) Janssen.

Danny graduated from Nashua High School in 1969. On December 6, 1969, he married the love of his life, Maria Elizabeth Leslie at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. From this union three sons were born: Daniel Dean II (Claudia) of Nashua, Jeremy Michael (Melissa) of Nashua and Shawn Everett of Nashua.

Danny is survived by his wife Maria; mother Dorothy; his three sons; his grandchildren: Brittany, Marissa, Kyle, Kristian, Mercedes, Logan and Ava; his great-grandchild, Jesse; a brother, Richard "Dick" Janssen; a sister, Linda (Morris) Dolph; step-mother, Marlene Janssen; mother-in-law, Mary Leslie; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Janssen and his grandparents. Danny worked for Marigold Dairy in Charles City until he and Maria moved to Missouri. The short while they were in Missouri, he worked at Banquet Foods. When the family moved back to Iowa, he went to work at Kitchens of Sara Lee in New Hampton until the plant closure. During this time, he and his family also ran a dairy farm in rural Nashua. Farming was in Danny's blood. He took great satisfaction in tilling the soil and seeing the fruits of his labor. Danny enjoyed stock car racing, tractors and was a lover of all animals (especially his dog Ellie).

He was great at training horses. He and Maria spent many hours and miles trail riding all over Iowa, Missouri, South Dakota, Wyoming and anywhere they could ride, camp and have a good time with their friends and family. Danny also took pleasure in taking the boys boating when they were younger and then going boating with them when they became adults. Danny and Maria went on cruises, motor cycle trips and horseback riding trips with their good friends Chuck and Ginny Olsen. Danny was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. He would take the grandkids sledding and he and Maria took them on many trail rides. Danny was the happiest when he was spending time with his family and friends.

Duane 'Dewey' Robinson

Duane 'Dewey' Robinson, 68, died peacefully at his home October 7, 2013. His life was shortened by a 21-year courageous struggle with cancer.

A celebration of life will be held 3:00 p.m., Monday, October 14, 2013 at the Anchorage Funeral Home, 1800 Dare Avenue, Anchorage, Alaska. Viewing and visitation will began one hour prior to the service. Additional services will be held in Mason City, Iowa with burial at the Park Cemetery in Nora Springs, Iowa.

Dewey was born in Eldora, Iowa in 1945. He grew up in Nora Springs, Iowa and graduated in 1963. He was an accomplished wrestler and an Iowa state runner-up champion. After high school he worked at Jacob E. Decker and Sons (Armour) in Mason City, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967 as a bridge engineer and medic in Viet Nam. He returned to Deckers until he moved to Alaska with his wife Judy in 1972.

He built trusses, doors, and windows at Alaska Builders Cache until he founded Dewey's Garage in 1978. He loved mechanical repair work and welding. When he was too sick to work, he still put on his overalls and sat in the garage, dispensing free advice to customers, friends, and neighbors. He also loved spending time "off the grid" at the homestead on the Susitna River. There he enjoyed hunting moose, watching wildlife from his kitchen table, visiting with friends, and working in a very special shop built by his friend Larry Siekmeier.

His friends and family said, "Dewey was the toughest yet most gentle person we have known. Nobody had better tools, cleaner guns, sharper knives, or cleaner moose meat than Dewey. He was generous with his possessions, his technical expertise, and his wisdom about life's rewards and hardships. His mother had three children, but Dewey's family was much, much bigger. Friends of all races and faiths claim him as a brother."

He was preceded in death by his father, James Robinson and his brother, Donald L. Robinson.

He is survived by his wife Judy A. James F. Haskovec, 63, of Charles City died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, at the United Methodist Church in Nashua with Pastor Okitakoyi Lundula presiding. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery with Brad Bilharz, Kara Graham, Jose Carrizales, Joan Graham, Bob Graham and Les Graham serving as pallbearers. The U.S. flag will be presented by the Nashua V.F.W. Post.

James F. Haskovec was born March 5, 1950, in New Hampton, the son of LaVern and Jean (Robinson) Haskovec. At an early age the family moved to Cedar Falls where Jim received his education and later graduated from the Parkersburg High School. On Dec. 1, 1968, he entered the United States Marine Corp. and was honorably discharged on April 7, 1970. On June 12, 1982, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, he married Sharon Graham. The couple lived and worked in North Carolina and Texas until moving back to Iowa in 1988. They lived in several Iowa communities until making Charles City their home in 2003. In his free time, Jim enjoyed time on his motorcycle, fishing, collecting cast-iron toys, camping and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon of Charles City; three children, Tonya Hightower, Sheree Harper and Brian Haskovec; a stepson, Brad (Pam) Powers of Waverly; his mother-in-law, Dolores Graham of Nashua; one brother, David (Bonnie) Haskovec of Marshallburg, N.C.; two sisters, Eunice Richmond and Margaret (Roger) Harper all of Beaufort, N.C.; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Bob Graham.

Sharon Kay Logan Danielson was born February 15, 1943, at Charles City, the daughter of Charles and Mary Lou (Shifflet) Logan. She graduated from Spring Lake Park High School, Spring Lake Park, Minn. and from American Institute of Business in Des Moines. On October 26, 1963, she was united in marriage to Dale Danielson. They lived all their lives in the Floyd area. Cherie worked at the Charles City Community Schools for over 20 years and at Fort Dodge Animal Health for over 10 years. Her interests included sewing, crafting, listening to music, dancing, gardening and photography. Cherie always looked forward to spending time and sharing her life with her family.

Living family members include her husband, Dale Danielson of Floyd; a son, David (Michele) Danielson of Des Moines; a daughter-in-law, Darlene Danielson of Des Moines; three grandchildren, Ryan, John and Rachel; four brothers, Charles (Dannette) Logan of Colo., Rick (Christy) Logan, Jim (Debbie) Logan, and Mike Logan all of Minneapolis, Minn.; and two sisters, Sue Logan Miller and Debbie (Tom) Lemmer both of Calif.

Marie Lucile Wilson Chambers was born March 2, 1919, in Chickasaw County, Iowa, the daughter of Harvey and Agnes (Jermier) Wilson. She received her education at Floyd and Charles City.

On December 11, 1936, she was united in marriage to Raymond Chambers. They lived in the Charles City area all their lives. Marie worked for many years, 28 of which were at Salsbury Laboratories. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and the Senior Citizens.

Her interests included fishing, knitting, crocheting, crafting, and raising flowers. Family was always of greatest importance and she looked forward to those times when she could share life's experiences with them. Marie will be dearly missed, but family and friends look forward to seeing her again in heaven.

Living family members include her husband of 76 years, Raymond Chambers of Charles City; a daughter, Darlene (Larry) Neely of Charles City; five grandchildren, Rachel (DeWight) Connerley, Phil (Rhonda) Neely, Mark (Brenda) Neely, Tim (Donna) Neely and Steve (Ticha) Neely; 13 great grandchildren; and five great great granddaughters; two sisters, Dorothy Chambers of Charles City and Rose Mary Edson of Ionia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Georgie Hicok; and a brother, Harvey "Gene" Wilson.

Donald F. House

Donald F. House, 94, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2013.

He was born on January 18, 1919, to Samuel R. House and Alma Louise Pratt House in Cleveland, Ohio. Donald was a former resident of Charles City, Iowa. He loved the arts, enjoyed painting and playing the piano.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; son-in-law, James M. Stoffer, Jr. and grand-daughter-in-law, Heidi Stoffer.

He is survived by daughter, Diane Hanrahan and husband, Mark; son, Dan House; grandchildren, Megan Stoffer Walker and husband, Justin and James M. Stoffer, III.

There will be a graveside service on Friday, October 18, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Marcella "Sally" (Burgart) Gehrke

Marcella Clara "Sally" Gehrke, daughter of Frank and Bertha (Testroet) Burgart, was born July 15, 1919, at New Hampton. She attended school in Shell Rock and then graduated from St. Boniface High School in Ionia.

On June 28, 1952, Sally was united in marriage with Loyal Gehrke at Kansas City. They moved to Carroll to make their home nearer her mother and brothers. Loyal was on the police force and they operated a venetian blind store for a number of years. Then Sally started working as the clerk at Joe's Paint where she remained for 37 years. She developed a special friendship with Joe and his family. In her spare time she enjoyed playing cards and collecting elephant figurines. Sally was a member of the Moose Lodge and an avid reader.

After Loyal died, Sally remained in Carroll until 2005 when she moved to Charles City to Riverside Assisted Living. When her health began to fail she became a resident at Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City. She died there on, October 15, 2013 at the age of 94 years and 3 months.

Preceding her in death are her husband; parents; brothers Hubert Burgart, Cletus Burgart, Joe Burgart and sister Leona Hardin.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews, including Barbara Havlik, Joan (John) Hill, Mary Hoeft, Richard (Suzanne) Burgart, Elaine (Tom) Keating, Tom (Dorann) Burgart, Dan (Jennifer) Burgart and other relatives and friends.

Dean Kenneth Debner

A Celebration of Life Service for Dean Kenneth Debner, 83, of Greene, will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 25, 2013, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene, with Pastor Gary Hatcher officiating. Burial will be in the Westside Cemetery in Marble Rock, following the luncheon and fellowship.

Dean Kenneth Debner was born August 2, 1930 in Vilmar-rural Greene, Butler County, Iowa, the son of Ferdinand Fred and Agnes Margaret (Abendroth) Debner and passed away Monday, October 14, 2013, at the Liebe Care Center in Greene under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. He received his education in public school graduating at the age of 16 from Marble Rock High School (AKA Marble Rock University).

On November 27, 1949, Dean was united in marriage to Grace Tena Junker at the Bennezette Wesleyan Church near Aredale. Dean served in the National Guard. He farmed and worked at Oliver (White Farm) and spent the last of his working years driving Winnebagos with a special love for the trip to Alaska, 3,330 miles (one way). He made that trip over 100 times. On August 10, 1994, Dean took the Polar Bear Plunge in Barrow, Alaska.

Dean never met anyone he considered a stranger. He was a "people person" with a great sense of humor and a quick wit. His stories and one liners will be treasured for years to come. Dean was an avid reader and especially enjoyed time spent with family and friends.

He is survived by his children: Gary (J.D.) Debner, Keosauqua, Sherry (Dave) Kubalsky, Marshalltown, and Lyna Debner, Aurora, Colorado; sisters: Della Van Fleet, Cedar Falls, Marlene Gerholdt, Waterloo, his special friend, Gen Ott of Greene; nine grandchildren: Shyla, Stephanie, Annette, Angie, Carl, Brad, Trina, Joshua and Jeremy; 11 great-grandchildren: Andrew, Ashton, Joseph, Aden, Christian, Lucas, Tyler, Allison, Brailee, Brody and Priya; many good friends.

Dean was preceded in death by his wife Grace in 1997; two brothers, Clarence and Lloyd; one sister, Viola.

Delbert Dean Cross

Delbert Cross, 79, of Floyd, was called home Monday, October 21, 2013, at his residence.

A memorial service for Delbert Cross will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd. Pastor Martha Bennett will officiate. Delbert Dean Cross was born May 2, 1934 in rural Colwell, the son of Hollis and Carrie Lucile (Clark) Cross. He was educated in the Floyd area, graduating from Floyd High School in 1952. While in school, Delbert worked at a sawmill and helped his dad deliver milk. He began working at Armor after he graduated before entering the U.S. Navy in 1954. Delbert was honorably discharged in 1958 and continued his work at Armor. He was also a farmer and operated his own butcher shop for a few years.

Delbert was united in marriage to Olga Bell "Billy" Fischer on January 3, 1956. This union was blessed with six children. Billy passed away on December 22, 1985. He married Helen Stonecypher in 1994 and the marriage was later annulled in 2001. Delbert was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd where he taught adult Sunday school. He enjoyed fishing, was a member of the VFW and taught Bible study at the Chautauqua Homes when he was able, but Delbert's great love in life was bowling. He had his own coffee cup at the bowling alley and was still bowling until recently.

Living family members include his six children: Don (Lorna) Cross of Papillion, Nebr., Carrie (Ray) Paulsen of Pierz, Minn., Carolyn (Jeff) Boser of Pierz, Minn., Dan (Lori) Cross of Omaha, Nebr., Drew Cross of St. Cloud, Minn. and Carmen Cross of Waite Park, Minn.; sixteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters: Judy (Jack) Tynan of Charles City and Jan (Tom) Cook of Davenport; along with nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother; first wife, Billy in 1985; and his sister, Jo Ann.

Ila Marie Voelschow Kraninger Elliott was born January 5, 1922, in Delaware County, the daughter of Herman and Ila (Fitsimmons) Voelschow. She graduated from Garfield High School in 1939. On February 6, 1945,

she was united in marriage to Roy Kraninger. To this union five children were born. They farmed all of their married lives near Colwell. Roy died on February 11, 1980. On May 25, 1985, she married Henry Elliott. Henry died on May 28, 1993. Ila was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, quilters of Messiah Lutheran Church and was active participant at the YMCA. She enjoyed traveling, quilting and playing cards.

Living family members include four children, Ronald (Betty) Kraninger of Nora Springs, Margaret "Peggy" Silva of San Antonio, Texas, Garry Kraninger of Independence, and Stan Kraninger of Wilmot, South Dakota; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Ila always had a special place in her heart for the family of Henry Elliott.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; a son, Larry Kraninger; daughter-in-law, Connie Kraninger; and two brothers, Earl and Robert Voelschow.

Margaret Benning age 88 of Plainfield, Iowa died Sunday, October 27, 2013, at the Shell Rock Health Care Center in Shell Rock, Iowa.

Margaret Lenona Benning was born December 2, 1924, in Lisbon, ND, the second of six children to Fred and Stella (Johnson) Lahman. Following high school, she and a girlfriend moved to Rochford, IL, to work in a factory making firing pins during World War II. On March 10, 1949, at the United Methodist Church Parsonage in Plainfield, she married Edwin Benning. The couple farmed for 35 years near Plainfield and Margaret also worked at the Hartman Locker in Plainfield, Kay?s Restaurant in Nashua and the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Margaret loved to crochet and made many beautiful items throughout her life. She made bed-spreads, tablecloths and hundreds of butterflies. She also had a love for flowers and the Chicago Cubs.

Survivors include one son, Bill (Renee) Benning of Plainfield; three grandsons, Luke (Veronica) Benning of Chino Valley, AZ, Scott Benning of Charles City, Levi Benning of Plainfield; five great-grandchildren, Nikki, Joshua, Ashleigh, Brooklyn and Kimberly; one sister, Dolores Van Damme of Marlette, MI; two brothers, Mick (Joan) Lahman of Bella Vista, AR, Fred (Marie) Lahman of Hines, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1984, one brother, Arnold Lahman and a sister, Jeanne Fraser.
