Chauncey Frederick Barlow
MASON CITY, IOWA - Chauncey F. "Fred" Barlow, 69, of Mason City died
Thursday, November 28, 2013, at his home in Mason City.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 3, at
St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 4th Street SE, Mason City, with Pastor
Jeni Bohls presiding.
Visitation with public viewing will be Monday evening, December 2, from
4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. N.E.,
Mason City, and will continue one hour prior to Fred's service at the church
on Monday.
Should friends desire, memorials may be left in Fred's name in care of
his family.
Chauncey Frederick Barlow was born on December 24, 1943 in Charles City,
the son of Chauncey and Katherine (Thomas) Barlow. He attended and graduated
from Mason City High School among the class of 1962.
On April 3, 1965, he was united in marriage to Sue Walters in Northwood.
This union would be blessed with two children, John and Pamela.
For many years, Fred worked in retail before moving to California. He
then managed real estate in California before returning to Mason City to
accept the position of plant superintendent at Armour; a position he would
hold for 15 years before his retirement.
Family came first and foremost in Fred's life. He cherished the time spent
with his children and grandchildren. He loved attending events with his
family, whether that be joining them at the campground, attending car
shows or cheering on his grandkids during their sporting events. Fred
will be remembered for his generosity and willingness to help anyone
in need. He had a heart of gold and would never say no to helping out.
In his younger years Fred enjoyed drag racing and golfing with his
friends. He was a devoted Minnesota Vikings and Iowa Hawkeyes football fan.
He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and a longtime member of
the Elks Lodge.
Those grateful in sharing in his life are his wife, Sue Barlow, Mason
City; children, John (Laurie) Barlow, Mason City, and Pamela (Tom) Litterer,
Charles City; grandchildren, Sean and Tiffany Barlow, and Alexandria and
Olivia Litterer; his sister, Pat Stevens, Altoona; his brother, Russ (Jane)
Barlow, Ankeny; his sisters in law, Kim Swanson, Mason City, and Kris (Bill)
Vogelgesang, Owatonna, Minn.; and his brother in law, Mike Swanson, Clear Lake.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents, Chauncey Barlow and Katherine
Barlow; and his step-mother, Ada Barlow.

Anthony Ray Armstrong
Birth: November 10, 1982

Anthony R. Armstrong, 31, of Charles City, Iowa, passed away Friday,
November 29, 2013, at his home in Charles City.
Funeral services for Anthony Armstrong will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at
Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City. Pastor Jim Beranek will
officiate.
Friends may call at Trinity United Methodist Church one hour before the
service on Tuesday.
Anthony Ray Armstrong was born November 10, 1982 in Cedar Rapids, the
son of Larry and Valnora (Vitense) Armstrong. He attended school at
Clarence-Lowden and Charles City Community School District. At the age
of 17, he enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard. Anthony graduated
from U.S. Army Basic Training at Ft. Sill in August 2000. He was assigned
to the 1133rd Transportation Company based in Mason City and completed two
tours of duty in Iraq 2003-04 and 2008-09.
Anthony married Stacie Rover on October 15, 2005. To this union two
children were born. They were later divorced. Anthony was a military and
civilian truck driver. He worked for several companies in the Charles City
area until his health forced him into disability at the age of 28. Anthony
enjoyed collecting toy John Deere implements. He spent much of his free time
outdoors trying to get his truck stuck in the mud and hanging out with his
family and friends.
Living family members include his children: Ethan and Jeyda of
Charles City; his mother and step-father, Valnora and Kelvin Keifer of
Charles City; three sisters: Melissa (Lucas) Ruyter of Eldridge, Jessica
and Sydney Keifer of Charles City; grandparents: Ronald and Marlene
Armstrong of Clarence and James and Fern Vitense of Tipton; a niece, Mya
Ruyter; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and a very good friend, Gabe Bunston
of Aplington.
He was preceded in death by his father and two grandmothers: Betty
Trevathan and Betty Armstrong.

David Robert Turner

David R. Turner, 91, of Charles City, Iowa, died Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
Funeral services for David Turner will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity United Methodist Church. Pastor Jim Beranek will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

David Robert Turner was born October 16, 1922, at the family home in Cedar Rapids, the son of William and Anna (Schultz) Turner. He graduated from Roosevelt High School and Coe College both in Cedar Rapids. On October 19, 1944, he was united in marriage to Elsie Jacobs in the chapel of Coe College. David served in the United States Army for 22 years. During World War II he served in the European Theater, was wounded at the Battle of the Bulge, and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. From 1965 to 1985 he was employed with the Floyd County Iowa Department of Human Services.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Retired Officers Association, Elks Lodge, and Lions Club where he had served on the Board of Directors.
He enjoyed working outside where he "lived to mow" his yard, taking walks, having dinner with friends, playing 500, reading, working crossword puzzles and watching the Cubs and Hawkeyes.
Living family members include two children, Robert C. Turner of Nora Springs and Kathy Shawhan of Charles City; three grandchildren, Lon (Loretta) Turner, Michelle Shawhan and Jessie Shawhan; and four great grandchildren, Chelsea, Jenna and Hayden Turner and Joseph Ginther.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elsie on November 2, 1987; and seven siblings.

December 5, 2013, at the Nora Springs Care Center in Nora Springs, Iowa.

Cecelia Ann Jensen Berding was born December 2, 1921, in Mitchell
County, the daughter of Martin and Ethel (Chambers) Jensen. She received
her education at Newberry School and Colwell Consolidated School. On April
13, 1947, she was united in marriage to LeeAnda Berding. They farmed all
their lives near Colwell. Cecelia enjoyed flower gardening, animals,
reading and crossword puzzles. She always looked forward to spending
time with her family.
Living family members include eight children, Martin (Jean) Berding of
Charles City, Sue Berding-Bemis of Elgin, S.C., John (Lynette) Berding of
Fertile, Aletha Berding-Powell of Charles City, Lynn Berding of Charles
City, Jule Pauls of Oregon, Wisc., Helene (Julio) Benitez of Waterloo
and Tony (Shelly Olson) Berding of Wood Lake, Minn.; 22 grandchildren;
20 great grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Bill Jorgensen of Rockwell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LeeAnda Berding on
February 17, 1990; a brother, J.G. Jensen; two brothers-in-law, and four
sisters-in-law.

Laverne Wesley Johnson was born July 25, 1927, at Charles City, the
son of Theo and Tena (Kleen) Johnson. He attended school at Rudd. On
August 15, 1948 he was united in marriage to Virginia Sullivan at the
Little Brown Church in Nashua. Virginia died February 16, 1982. Johnny
married Florene Royal on January 10, 1987 at Trinity United Methodist
Church. He worked as an auto mechanic for several years, later becoming
proprietor of Johnson Motor Repair from 1964-1988. Johnny was a member
of Trinity United Methodist Church. His interests included bowling,
fishing, camping, gardening and working on cars. Johnny enjoyed dogs,
especially Bandit.
Living family members include his wife, Florene Johnson of Charles City;
three children, Sheryl (Dave) Jeffrey of Charles City, Nancy (Bryan) Boggess
of Ankeny and Mark (Lori) Johnson of Charles City; 12 grandchildren; 10
great-grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; son-in-law, Tony Putney of
Illinois; three step children, Paul Royal, Jennie (Darrell) Ross and
Barbara (Randy) DeBower all of Charles City; eight step-grandchildren;
and 20 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Virginia; infant,
son, Robert Johnson; a daughter, Mitzi Putney; and a brother, Merlin
Johnson.

Shirley died on Friday, December 6, 2013, at St. Johns Lutheran Home.
Shirley Ann Felt was born on Nov. 12, 1932, in Charles City Iowa, the
daughter of Lyle and Mildred (Gillahan) Keiser. She grew up in Charles City
and moved to Austin, Minnesota, during her senior year of high school.
Shirley graduated from Austin High School in 1951. She was married to Ronald
Felt at the United Methodist Church in Austin on November 22, 1951. After
her marriage, Shirley worked at several jobs including the Johnson Laundry,
Piggly Wiggly, and Duffy's.
She worked at Land-O-Lakes for 16 years. Shirley was a member of the
United Methodist Church and the Freeborn County Humane Society. She enjoyed
watching and feeding birds. She also took in and fostered cats for the humane
society. She loved the time she spent with her grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. Family was very important to her. Blessed be her memory.
Survivors include her husband Ron; sons, Doug (Sandy) Felt and Bob (Bonnie)
Felt; grandchildren: Sarah Felt, Melissa (Cory) Horsch, and Jason (Amy)
Avelar; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas (Shirley) Keiser; and
several nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her son Thomas, and her
grandson Matthew.
Memorials are preferred to the Freeborn County Humane Society or to
St. Johns Lutheran Home.

Memorial Hospital.
She was a member of First Baptist Church. Other
memberships included the Senior Citizens Center of Charles City and
Heritage Club. She enjoyed playing 500, canning and finding bargains.
Family was always important to Gloria and she looked forward to sharing
life's experiences with them.
Living family members include two daughters, Becky (Pete) Johnston of
Ionia and Vicky (David) Rich of Algona; eight grandchildren, Pat Johnston,
Jason Johnston, Jody Mulligan, Lisa Kettwig, Matt Chambers, Kelly Evans,
Laura Hoover and Eric Rich; 13 great grandchildren; and a brother, Harvey

John L. Koresh
Floyd - John L. Koresh, 88 of Floyd, Iowa, formerly of Prairie du Chien,
Wisconsin, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2013, at the Nora Springs
Care Center in Nora Springs, Iowa, surrounded by his family.
A memorial mass service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, December
14, 2013, at St. John's Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.

John was born on December 14, 1924, in Prairie du Chien to John and Sophie
(Pintz) Koresh, and was the last living of eleven children.
Those left to cherish his memory are his two sons, John R. (Mary) Koresh
of Elkader, Iowa, and Richard D. Koresh (special friend Cathy Diercks) of
Floyd, Iowa. Also family dog and grampa's companion Sammy. There are nine
grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews,
other extended family members and friends.
Preceding John in death were his parents, John and Sophie; brothers,
George, Joe, and Bob; sisters, Leone Reckter, Hattie Stevens, Tilli Meyers,
Rosie McFall and Mildred Spiker and brothers, John and Lawrence who died
at birth; also daughter Sharon (Kermit) Brooks, and daughter-in-law,
Sandra (Richard) Koresh.

Betty Yost was born on May 26, 1921 in Manilla, Iowa, to Carl and Johanna
(Larsen) Larson. After high school she earned a two year college degree.
On November 6, 1943 she was united in marriage at Luke Field in Phoenix, AZ
to Howard Yost. To this union two children were born. She was an
elementary teacher, homemaker and Pre-School Teacher at the Central
Pre-School in Charles City.
Her hobbies included gardening, listening to music, and playing the
piano; which she could do by ear. Betty really loved flowers. She also
enjoyed needle work such as counter cross stitching and knitting.
The family of Betty would like to thank the staff at 9th Street
Chautauqua Guest Home for their excellent and loving care.
Those left to cherish her memory include her two children, Cathy (Doug)
Anderson of Ohio and Stan (Linda) Yost of Clear Lake; grandchildren, Todd

Ruth Elizabeth Johnson Martin was born October 29, 1927, at New Hampton,
the daughter of Elmer and Martha (Pichelmann) Johnson. She received her
education at Charles City. On July 13, 1945, she was united in marriage
to Ivan Martin at Santa Ana, Calif. They later divorced. Ruth was a
homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family. She enjoyed dancing
and listening to country music.
Living family members include four children, Ronald (Carol) Martin
of Cresco, Diane (Gary) Thomas of Charles City, John (Sheryl) Martin of
Hutchinson, Minnesota, and Robert (Donna) Martin of Charles City;
16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn Merrill

Dorothy Mae (Springer) Mohring was born October 22, 1931, the daughter
of Amos and Helen (Marovets) Springer. She was raised on the family farm
between Nashua and Bassett, attending school in Nashua. After she graduated
from Nashua High School, Dorothy went to the Iowa State Teacher's College
in Cedar Falls where she received her teaching certificate. She taught in
rural schools for two years.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Henry Mohring on April 22, 1954
at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. The couple
farmed their entire lives near Ionia. Dorothy was a member of St. John
Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was involved in the Talent Auction,
missions fundraising and helping serve for funerals. She was also a Girl
Scout Leader for her daughters. Dorothy's interests included sewing,
gardening, annual fishing trips with Henry, traveling throughout the
country with Henry, camping and being involved in the Waucoma Craft
Show for several years. Dorothy's family will always remember her

Dorothy was a very giving person who gave all she could until the
very end. She always wanted to know, "How are you?"?

Jolene (Frank) Wilts of Ionia; seven grandchildren: Nicole Mohring,

Mckinna, Bailee and Abbie Wilts; three great-grandchildren: Landon
Pate and Leah and Carter Amdahl; two sisters: Beverly (Dave) Bray of

John Henry Osborn was born on June 20, 1943, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
the youngest of 5 children to Donald Dean and Florence Lydia (Duree)
Osborn and died on Friday, December 6, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center-North
Iowa in Mason City. He received his education in the public schools in Cedar
Rapids.
John was united in marriage to Mary Ann Rutledge on September 21,
1963 in Cedar Rapids. This union was blessed with two children.
As a young man of 16 John worked in a Bakery at night and spent his days
working for the local service station. He went on to work for Wilson Packing
in Cedar Rapids. John worked for Cherry Burrell and did Handyman work for
anyone needing help around town. Later after he had developed his
construction skills he formed Osborn Construction Company. John built
many homes, created house plans, concrete work, genitate surfacing,
hauled dirt, and held the city contract for sidewalk work in Cedar
Rapids. He contributed his time and effort to the Greene community
projects. John holds two patents. He was a very hard worker and donated
many hours of his expertise to helping out friends and neighbors with
their personal projects.
John was a very generous man, believed in helping others, spent time
mentoring youth. He served as a Boy Scout Leader in Cedar Rapids. John
assisted in clean up operation after the floods both in Cedar Rapids and
Greene. He enjoyed living near the river and especially spending time with
his grandchildren. Even in death his generosity continued with the donation
of his eyes to the Iowa Lions Eye Bank to help with restoring sight to the
blind.
Living family members include his loving wife of 50 years, Mary Ann
Osborn, Greene; one son: John (Misty) Osborn, Amber, Arin and Anthony,
Ionia; one daughter: Tina Marie (Dan) Schleder and their children: Bradley,
Ryley and Madison Schleder, Cedar Rapids; Brothers and Sisters-in-law:
Cheryl (Evelyn) Rutledge, Cedar Rapids, Marilyn Billings, Florida,
Joel (Judy) Rutledge, LaClaire, Judi (Don) Kielman, Clarksville; many
nieces and nephews and lots of friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, four siblings: Jack (Liz)
Osborn, Jim (Kay) Osborn, Nancy (Bill) Lint, Betty Reed, brother-in-law,

Garry Lee Barlow, 61, of Nashua, Iowa, died Monday December 9, 2013,
at his home.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday Dec. 14, 2013, at the
United Methodist Church in Nashua with Okitakoyi Lundula, pastor,
officiating. Ruth Bierschenk will be the organist for the service with
Brad and Laura Hammes as vocalists.
Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua with Scott McGregor,
Chet McGregor, Bob Beck, Dave Gersema, John Barnett, Ben Freidhof, Rob
Hinton, and Dave Holstad as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be

Garry Lee Barlow was born Jan. 16, 1952, in Charles City, the son
of Harold Allen and Helen Arlene (Bennor) Barlow. He attended the Hogan
Country School until the second grade before entering the Nashua School
District. He was a 1970 graduate of the Nashua High School. During school
he was active in 4-H including being the first baseman for the 4-H Softball
Team. He also enjoyed his voc ag classes. On July 24, 1972, Garry joined
the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged on July 23, 1978.
During that time, Garry started his custom farming business, and was a
Northrop King salesman. He grew into his own farming operation, culminating
with his son Adam joining him.
In 1974, Garry was introduced to Debra Lodge who lived in Nashua. They
dated until Sept. 18, 1976, when they were united in marriage, at the
Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville. To this union two
children were born, Amber and Adam.
Garry was active in his community. He was President of the Rural Fireman's
Association, on the Five Star Coop board, a member of the Farm Service Agency
committee, belonged to the Iowa Cattlemen's Association and was a member of
the Greenwood Cemetery Board. He also was the President of the Riverton
Township Trustees, and served on the United Methodist Ad Board. He
loved Massey Ferguson tractors and belonged to the Snowmobile Club.
Garry loved visiting with his neighbors and friends and being a member
of the card club. He was a regular at the State and County Fairs enjoying
all types of traveling including his regular Sunday drives to machinery
dealerships. He had a love for car races, attending his kids' activities,
spending time playing with his grandchildren, and horseback riding. His
years spent farming both before and with his son joining him, were special
and treasured. His family and especially his grandchildren will forever
miss his love, care and protection.
Garry is survived by his wife, Debra; daughter, Amber (Seth) Harrison
of Pleasant Hill; son, Adam (Brittany) Barlow of Nashua; two grandchildren,
Lane Barlow and Genevieve Harrison; his mother-in-law, Mary Lodge of Nashua;
three brothers-in-law, Larry Lee (Laura) Lodge of Kellogg, Scott Lodge of
Nashua and Wayne Gabrielson of Longmont, Colo. He was preceded in death
by his parents, Harold and Helen (Bennor) Barlow; sister, Linda Gabrielson;
and brother, Richard Barlow in infancy.

RUDD, IOWA - Bernard "Fran" Janssen, 72, of Rudd, died Thursday,
December 12, 2013, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.

Bernard Francis Janssen was born June 9, 1941, in Floyd County, the
son of Bernard and Alice (Jacobson) Janssen. He graduated in 1959 from
Osage High School. On March 25, 1962, he was united in marriage to Nancy
Moeller at Eden Presbyterian Church. They farmed all their lives on the
Janssen family farm near Rudd. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and
Rudd Coop. Fran was a farmer at heart who enjoyed John Deere tractors
and flying. He will be remembered for his incredible ability to fabricate
anything out of metal or making working equipment out of junk. Family was
always important to Fran and he took every opportunity to share in life's
experiences with them.
Living family members include his wife, Nancy Janssen of Rudd; a son,
Jim (Lori) Janssen of Floyd; five grandchildren, Cory Janssen, Andrew
(Kailee) Janssen, Joseph Janssen, Barbara Janssen and Anne (Austin)
Campbell; two great granddaughters, MaKenzie Campbell and Hayden Janssen;

the Class of 1971 and then graduated from The American Institute of Business
(AIB) in Des Moines with a degree in business. Pam worked as a manager for
Younkers for several years. Pam was united in marriage to Nicholas B. Hobbs
on Oct. 13, 1973, in Mediapolis.
Pam is survived by her three children; Molly (Mrs. Brent) Chambliss of
Tipton, Iowa, Katie Hobbs of North Liberty, Iowa and Jacob (Mrs. Amber)
Hobbs of Rapids City, Illinois; her father, Ralph Honson of Bettendorf,
Iowa; sister, Lisa Delzell of Bettendorf, Iowa; brothers, Gary (Mrs. Joan)
Honson of Davenport, Iowa and David (Mrs. Karen) Honson of Iowa City, Iowa;
five granddaughters, Sydney, Savannah, Delany, Camryn and Kylah.
Pam was preceded in death by her mother, Doris, and an infant at birth.
Pam's passion in life was her children and granddaughters. She also
loved listening to Jimmy Buffet and was a New York Yankees fan. Pam was
an amazing mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. She will
be forever missed and never forgotten.

COOS BAY, OREGON - Jerrold Robert Stiles, of Coos Bay, Oregon, and
formerly of Nora Springs, Iowa, passed away December 7, 2013, at the
age of 91.
He was born in Spencer, Iowa, on April 26, 1922, the son of Keith and Ruth
Stiles. Jerrold was married to Elizabeth (Betty) Meurer on May 16, 1943.
He is survived by three children: Mary Stiles of North Bend, Oregon;
Judy Stiles of Tucson, Arizona; Keith (Dixie) Stiles of Mason City, Iowa;
six grandchildren: Leigh (Justin) FitzHenry of Coos Bay, Oregon; Craig

Theresa Florence Harrington was born December 5, 1924, on a farm in
Bremer County, near Plainfield, the daughter of Florance Michael "F.M."
and Frances (Laube) Harrington. Theresa was baptized and confirmed at
St.Marys Catholic Church in Waverly and attended rural Plainfield country
schools. In her youth, Theresa enjoyed roller-skating, dancing and reading
books.
The family moved to their farm east of Nashua in 1944 and Theresa
led an active life on the farm. She helped wherever she was needed, if
it were field work, helping with the livestock or household chores. In
her free time she loved flower and vegetable gardening. She continued to
live on the farm with her brother, Paul until moving into New Hampton
Rehab and Healthcare in 2009.
Survivors include two sisters, Rosemary (Virgil) Zwanziger of Nashua
and Alice Klassen of New Hampton; two brothers, Robert Harrington of
Nashua and Paul Harrington of Ionia; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Norbert
Harrington, Richard Harrington, James Harrington; three sisters,
Catherine Miller, Delores Zwanziger and Eileen Zwanziger.

Doris Lucille Kies
Doris Lucille Kies, 79, of Keokuk, Iowa, died Monday, December 16, 2013 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk.
She was born on May 16, 1934 in Lisbon, the daughter of Gale and Ina Locke Kennon. On August 11, 1957 she was united in marriage to Orville Kies in Oelwein. He preceded her in death on October 12, 2007.
Doris graduated from Maynard High School with the Class of 1953. She
then went to St. Lukes School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids and graduated with the Class of 1956.
Doris worked as a nurse and was the director of nurses at Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City.
Doris and Orville moved to Keokuk in 2001 to be near their family. While living there, Doris volunteered at Wells-Carey Elementary School and Hawthorne Elementary School for many years. She was also a member of the Keokuk Area Hospital Auxiliary, member of the Daughters of the Revolution Jean Espy 5034 1A and a member of First Christian Church of Keokuk.
Doris spent time doing genealogy, a hobby started by her husband. She also enjoyed sewing and knitting.
Those celebrating her life include her children and their families, Lora, Jim and Brandon Wolff of Keokuk; Philip, Susie, Jacob and Nicole Kies of Cincinnati, Ohio; Bryan, Lori, Chelsea and Kelby Kies of Keokuk; Scott, Sue, Alex Zach, Megan and Ian Kies of St. Paul, Minn.; and Eric, Laura, Maddox, and Kennon Kies of Davenport. Other survivors include her siblings, Grace Doering of Luana and Steve Kennon of Oelwein.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, Dylan Kies and two sisters, JoAnn Lang and Carol Jean Larson.
A service of celebration will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday at the First Christian Church in Keokuk with Reverend David Turner officiating. Burial will be in the Hickory Grove Cemetery in rural Keokuk.
Visitation will be held prior to the service from 2-3 p.m., Sunday with family meeting with friends at that time.

Robert L. 'Bob' Ritter was born on June 18, 1949 in Omaha, Nebraska
to Kenneth R. and Betty (Drehr) Ritter and died Sunday, December 15,
2013, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Robert
lived with his grandparents Leo and Ethel Dreher in Hayward, California
in his early years.
Bob moved to the Rockford area and met Judy, whom he lived with for
12 years. During that period of time, David, Judy's son also became
Bob's son. He then moved to Mason City. In later years Bob and David
would work together roofing and eventually formed R& R Roofing.
Bob then met Donna and shared the next 14 years with her. Donna's
two daughters, Ruth and Heather also became Bob's children. The family
left Mason City moving to St. Peter, Minnesota where Bob worked several
jobs. In 1987, Bob and Donna were blessed with their son, Dustin. In the
early 1990's, the family moved to Charles City where Bob cared for his
father, who was in poor health.
Approximately10 years ago Bob had several strokes that left him disabled.
He made his home at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
There he made many friends and good memories. Bob loved to collect Beannie
Babies, spending time with his family and good stories. Earlier in life
he would take his son hunting, go fishing, and enjoyed motorcycles and
anything to do with eagles.
He is survived by his Sons:, Dustin Ritter, Tama, David Reibsamen, Mason
City; his Daughters: Ruth Hildahl,Belle Plaine and Heather Cory, Sheffield;
Daughter-in-law, Markita Zepeda Ritter, Charles City; Grandchildren:

battle with cancer.

Duane Daniel "Jug" Randall was born November 27, 1948, to Oscar and
Stella (Ross) Randall in New Hampton. He attended New Hampton Public
Schools. He began his working career at the local bowling alley and working
on the family farm in New Hampton, which is now known as Randall Park.
At the age of 18, he began working for John Deere in Waterloo where he
worked until his retirement in 1996. He was united in marriage on July
27, 1974, to Carol Leff in New Hampton. To this union two children were b
orn, Joey and Andy. The couple later divorced. On Dec. 31, 1984, Duane was
united in marriage to Vickie Prellwitz at The Little Brown Church in Nashua.
To this union five children were born, Kristian, Jessie, Krystal, Kayla,
and Karen. The couple made their home in New Hampton and later divorced.
Upon Duane's retirement he enjoyed watching NASCAR racing, working on his
1965 Chevy Biscayne, playing pool, bowling and enjoying a couple of cold
ones with his friends and family.
He looked forward to going to the Fourth Street Cruise every year. He
especially loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and family.
Duane is survived by his children, Joey (Andrea Bartholomew) Randall of
Fredericksburg, Andy (Amber Wierck) Randall of Fredericksburg, Kristian
(Travis) Mahlstedt of Rockford; Krystal (Kevin Glaser) Randall of
New Hampton, Kayla Randall of Rockford, and Karen (Ben) Damjanovic
of Charles City; his grandchildren, Cameron (Victoria Benson) Randall,
Connor Randall, Hannah Mahlstedt, Aubrey Mahlstedt, MaKynlee Mahlstedt,

Juanita Marie White Jacobs was born November 20, 1931, at Dougherty,
the daughter of John and Kathryn (Adelmund) White. She graduated from
Charles City High School. On October 15, 1949, she was united in marriage
to LaVerne Jacobs at Lancaster, MO. For a number of years she was employed
at the Dutch Oven Bakery which she later purchased. After it closed she
worked in the HyVee bakery for over 40 years as a cake decorator. Juanita
was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. She enjoyed baking
and bowling and had a great love for all animals, especially her pets.
She will always be remembered for her love of family and enjoyed cooking
and having dinners for them.
Living family members include three daughters, Linda (Les) Hobert and
Debra (Tim) Hovey both of Charles City and DeeAnn Moline of Boone; seven
grandchildren, Wendy Botkin, Jeff (Misty) Hobert, Travis (Heather) Hobert,

Gilman "Gil" White, 86, of Charles City, died Tuesday,
December 24, 2013, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
A funeral Mass for Gil White will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Monsignor Carl Schmitt will
celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Charles City.
Military honors will be conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 7
p.m. Sunday
where there will be a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue
Monday at the Church an hour prior to the service.
Gilman Gerald White was born July 16, 1927, in Chickasaw County, the son
of Matthew and Eva (Guhlow) White. Gil attended country school in Chickasaw
County and at the age of 65 received his GED. Gil proudly served in the
United States Navy during World War II. On January 8, 1947, he was united
in marriage to Donna Ward. Gil was proprietor of Gil White Plumbing and
Heating for many years and also farmed. He was a member of Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Pheasants Forever, Floyd
County Conservation, Floyd County Museum, Floyd County Fossil & Prairie
Park, was a partner in Top Notch Feeder Pigs.
He served as commander of the V.F.W. and was a member of the American
Legion for over 50 years. He also took special interest in the FFA at the
Charles City High School, contributing the greenhouse and a New Holland
tractor. Gil enjoyed fishing, hunting, going every day to the cabin which
he built on the farm, attending school sporting events and going on fishing
trips with his buddies.
Living family members include two children, Steve White of Charles City
and Janice (Steve) Barnett of Chandler, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Michelle
(Chris) Lewis of St. Louis Park, Minn., and Matthew Wolfe of Chandler,
Arizona; two great grandchildren, Benjamin and Emily Lewis; two sisters,
Cleo (Francis) Weisenstein of Granger, Indiana, and Laurel White of Mayer,
Arizona; and two brothers, Art (Mary) White and Bruce (Carman) White both
of Charles City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna on April 17, 2011;
two sons, Gerald White and DuWayne White; a brother, Stanley White and a
sister, Juanita Mehmen.

2013, at the age if 87. Beloved husband of 63 years to Leonette Marie Heck.

Fryer, his brother Lyle Fryer.
Loving and devoted father of Anne Grimmett (husband Adrian) of
Texas, Catherine Gray (husband David) of Texas, Beth Wallace (husband
Wayne) of Texas, Debora Boyle (husband Michael) of Texas, Joseph Fryer
(wife Tamara) of Louisiana, Teresa Trauth (husband Gary) of Louisiana,
Janet McAllister (husband Erik) of Colorado and Paul Fryer (wife April)
of North Carolina. Grandfather of Vanessa, Megan, Karl, Morgan, Chad,
Melissa, Keith , Erin, Madelyn, Alexander, Brian, Alison , Amelia and
Eamon. Great Grandfather of Lauren, Emma, Rowan, Kiran, Robbie, Makayla,
Madison, and Brennan. Brother of Vince Fryer of Washington.
Joseph is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, 1950 where he
received a Bachelor in Geological Engineering. He was employed as a
geologist for Mobil Oil Corporation for 33 years. He was a member of
the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Council 3030. He proudly served
his country in the Unites States Navy from 1941 until 1946.
He was born in Rochester, Minnesota.
Family and friends are asked to attend a brief ceremony Saturday,
December 28, 10 a.m., at Hauser Funeral Home,1205 S. Main St, Charles
City Iowa. Interment immediately following at Calvary Cemetery.

Bernard "Bernie" Brennan, 87, of Charles City, died Wednesday,
December 25, 2013, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.
Funeral services for Bernie Brennan will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at
the Hauser Funeral Home. Pastor Jim Beranek of Trinity United Methodist
Church will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday
and an hour prior to the service on Monday.
Bernard "Bernie" Beebe Brennan was born April 6, 1926 in
Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of Edward and Florence (Beebe) Brennan. He was
educated in Fort Dodge, graduating from Fort Dodge High School in 1944.
Bernie joined the Navy from 1944-1946, was honorably discharged and
returned home to attend the Fort Dodge Junior College for two years and
work at Jeffries Grocery where he met Vivian Gernhart. Bernie was united
in marriage to Vivian on April 8, 1951 in Coalville, Iowa and they lived
in Fort Dodge and Charles City raising their family. The couple later
divorced.
Bernie worked at Fareway in Fort Dodge for 15 years and was transferred
to the Charles City Fareway in 1967. He continued his employment at the
Charles City Fareway for an additional 22 years until his retirement in
December, 1988. Bernie had most recently attended Trinity United Methodist
Church in Charles City. He was very active in the V.F.W. and American
Legion, especially the Charles City Ceremonial Unit. Bernie liked
volunteering in Charles City for the Treasure Chest, Food Bank and
other organizations. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, spending time
at the Senior Citizens Center and playing cards.
Living family members include his daughter, Sandra (Richard) Wilde of
Osage; three sons: Joe (June) Brennan of Osage, Bernie Brennan of Mason
City and Neal (Tammie) Brennan of Plymouth; 14 grandchildren; 24
great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; former daughter-in-law,
Lou Holzer; along with several nieces, nephews, other family members and
friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bill Brennan; five
brothers: Bob, Frank, Bill, George and Don Brennan; one sister, Charlys
Cahill; and one infant great-granddaughter, Shaylee.

Melinda Ann Stiles
NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Melinda Ann Stiles, 44, of Nora Springs, died
Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013, at the Cancer Treatment Center of America,
Zion, Illinois after a courageous 6 year battle with cancer. Funeral
services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2013 at Grace Evangelical
Free Church, 440 N. Illinois Ave. with Pastor Scott Davis officiating.
Interment will be in Park Cemetery, Nora Springs. Visitation will be
from 3-6 p.m. Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania

Melinda was born September 9, 1969, in Charles City, Iowa the daughter of
Roger and Mary Ann (O'Connor) Martzahn. She graduated from Greene High
School in 1988 and North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) in 1989.
Melinda married Thad Stiles on November 18, 1989 at St. Peters Lutheran Church,
Greene. She was employed by OmniTel Communications, Nora Springs for 14
years working as their billing manager. Melinda was diagnosed with cancer
6 years ago. She never complained about her illness, instead, remained
positive throughout her battle often telling family and friends, "it is
what it is."
She was a tough mother devoted to her family and determined to watch
her boys grow up. Melinda had an amazing sense of humor to the very end.
She was a devout Christian and as one friend put it, "one organized
woman." A few of her interests included, reading, camping, and time
spent with family and friends.
Melinda is survived by her husband, Thad of Nora Springs; two sons, Ryan
and Matt of Nora Springs; parents, Roger and Mary Ann Martzahn of Greene;
brothers, Rick (Jane) Martzahn of Greene, Roland (Deanne) Martzahn of
Greene, and Joe Martzahn of West Des Moines; sister, Michelle (Faron)
Jensen of Greene; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews;
special family friends, Brad (Jeannie) Shanks of Nora Springs.
Melinda was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Roy
and Jeanette Martzahn; maternal grandparents, Richard and Myrtle O'Connor;
aunt, Janice DeVries.

James L. VanHorn
NASHUA, IOWA - James L. VanHorn, 77, of Nashua, formerly of Charles City,
died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City,
Iowa. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday,
January 11, 2014, at the VFW, 1505 N Grand Ave, Charles City, Iowa, with
Rev. Ruth Yeaton of the First Baptist Church, Charles City officiating.
There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed
to the James VanHorn memorial fund in care of the family. Online condolences

James was born on May 29, 1936, in Parkersburg, Iowa, the son of
Harm and Cleo (Anway) VanHorn. He attended Parkersburg High School
before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force on Sept. 1, 1955. He was
honorably discharged on June 13, 1959. James worked as an Inspector
for Beatrice Creamery in Fredericksburg, Iowa, before his retirement
in 1999. He loved spending time with his family, horses, visiting with
people, and cooking for the monthly VFW BBQ chicken dinners.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, AM VETS, VFW (Clear Lake),
and the Historical Society. He enjoyed helping with many aspects at the
Bradford Museum (tours, lawn care, gift shop etc.) until his health
declined. He also enjoyed helping his nephew and niece with their sweet
corn business. He loved talking with people and had built many strong
relationships over the years.
James is survived by two children: Troy VanHorn and wife Kathy of
Mason City; Brenda Boss and special friend Charlie Frascht of Miller,
Iowa; grandchildren: Stacey Armstrong, Cody VanHorn and wife Jacqaline,
Brooke and Josh Hamm, Cree and Cheyanne Gobeli, Nicole Boss and Tanner
Frascht; great-grandchildren: Ethan, Jada, Jayden, Gavin and Evan; one
sister: Donna Muller and husband Raymond of Grundy Center, Iowa; and
special nephew: Wendel Muller and wife Delane, as well as many nieces
and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and seven siblings.

Mary Tidemanson
Mary J. Tidemanson was born November 26, 1940, in Silverton, Oregon.
She was the daughter of Peter and Gladys (Maxwell) Ditchen. She passed
away on December 29, 2013, at the Waverly Health Center, in Waverly after
a brave battle with several health issues.
She lived in Oregon until 1950 when her family moved back to Greene,
Iowa. She went to the Coldwater Township Country School and graduated from
Greene High School in 1959.
On April 2, 1963, she married Carl Tidemanson at the First Presbyterian
Church in Greene, Iowa. Carl and Mary lived west of Greene until his death
on June 10, 2007.
Mary worked in hospitals and care centers for over 50 years retiring
after having heart surgery.
Mary enjoyed getting together with her cousins. She was a good cook
and brought cheerfulness to any group. Her hobbies were fishing, boating,
crocheting, old classic movies and photography. Mary very much loved her
dogs, Bandit, Cinnamon, Carmie, Conrad, and cat, Carlie.
Mary enjoyed traveling. She went to Hawaii, Panama, Aruba, Alaska,
Colorado, Oregon and New York City.
She is survived by many cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl in 2007, her father in
1945, mother, Gladys in 1967, a brother Kenneth in 1995.
