    Virginia Hoy

    Virginia Hoy, age 90, of Nashua died Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at her home. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 3, at St. John Lutheran Church, Nashua, with Pastor Alan Schulz officiating. Interment will be in the Cedar View Cemetery, rural Ionia, with Allan Hoy, Arlen Hoy, Wayland Bean, John Steere, Nate Steere and Trace Steere serving as pallbearers.

    Virginia L. hoy was born August 14, 1922, in Charles City, the daughter of Joe and Della (Schrader) Hansen. She received her education in rural country school near Pleasant Hill Church, west of Nashua.

    On August 3, 1941, in Charles City, she married Bernard Hoy. To this union two sons were born. Virginia loved working on the farm which she did her entire life. She enjoyed her peacocks, geese, sheep and other farm animals. She especially enjoyed her new white peacock. She enjoyed racking hay and seeding oats.

    For many years, she raised and sold strawberries. Virginia was very skilled at refinishing furniture for people in the surrounding area. Family gatherings were important to Virginia and she loved time with all her relatives. Bernard died on April 13, 1993, at the age of 74.

    Survivors include two sons, Virgil Hoy of Nashua, Jerry (Judy) Hoy of Nashua; five grandchildren, Allan (Kim) Hoy of Mason City, Debbie Hoy of Charles City, Darla (Wayland) Bean of Ionia, Arlen (Shelley) Hoy of Marble Rock; five great-grandchildren, Krystal (Jeff) Grubb, Kelsie Hoy, LaMont Hoy, Riley Butters and Tanner Hoy; one great-great-grandson; Teegan Winfrey; one sister, Della Reeve of Waterloo.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and three sisters, Leora Paine, Esther Juhl and Lucille Dixon.

    Mary Ann Green

    Mary Ann Green, 86, passed away on May 25, 2013, in Scottsdale, Arizona, where she resided for forty three years. She finally got relief from her long suffering after battling diabetes and kidney disease.

    Born Mary Ann Muller on May 3, 1927, in Osage, she moved to Charles City in her teens and immediately skipped two grades in high school graduating at barely 16 years old. Mary Ann married Marvin King on April 6, 1947, gave birth to her only child, David, in 1948, moved to town in 1955 then worked at Credit Finance. In 1960, she and Marvin purchased Hart Court, a very successful motel business.

    After getting a divorce in 1968, she married Roy Green on February 6, 1970, at St. John's Lutheran Church. Mary Ann said she was tired of shoveling snow so that summer she and Roy moved to Phoenix where she worked as a trust administrator before retiring in 1986.

    Mary Ann will always be remembered for being a great cook and was very proud of her many friends in Charles City. Her son, David, was the organist with Ringling Bros. Circus.

    She visited the show at many different locations around the country and was known as "Mom" by all the circus people. Everyone will miss her.

    She is preceded in death by her parents Herbert and Marie Muller and first husband, Marvin King. Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Roy Green, son, David King, step-daughters, Barbara Karn and Susie Nagle, step-grandchildren, Zach, Luke, Matt, Mindy, Darian, Sabrina and Holly and many nieces and nephews.

    Her memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday on June 8th at the Paradise Valley Evangelical Lutheran Church in Phoenix. The location of her burial has not yet been determined.

    Brian Clark, 61, of Charles City died, Monday, June 3, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.

    Graveside inurnment services will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City. Pastor Rod Rindel of New Life Assembly of God will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

    Brian Thomas Clark was born February 11, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Robert and Norita (Testroet) Clark. He received his GED and then attended Kirkwood College and Mount Mercy.

    Brian served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He worked as a paralegal and with security for several years. His interests were listening and performing music.

    Living family members include a daughter, Melissa; granddaughter, Izzy Clark; two brothers, Robert (Linda) Clark of California and Jim (Yvonne) Bottema of LaPorte City; and two sisters, Relia LaGrou of Charles City and Jackie Dunlap and significant other John Ingle of Marble Rock.

    He was preceded in death by his parents.

    Shauna Jones was born on March 17, 1954, in Mason City to Edwin and Wava (Burgess) Bowers. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1972. Shauna loved music and played piano and was involved in band growing up. During her childhood she spent a lot of time in northern Minnesota fishing, swimming and enjoying the whole family.

    Shauna was very involved in the Rudd community, where she resided for the past 25 years. She was a member of the Rudd United Methodist Church, UMW Church Circle and Rudd Over-50 Club. Shauna was also a mentor for confirmation.

    On July 30, 1988, she was united in marriage to Steven Jones. Shauna worked as a pharmacy technician for Mercy Hospital of North Iowa for 33 years, until she could no longer work due to her battle with several kinds of cancer.

    Shauna's interests included shopping, traveling to Branson, Minn., camping and sitting around the campfire with family and friends. She was a wonderful cook and was always willing to try new recipes. Shauna was an outgoing and caring person and acquired many friends from work and down by the river.

    The last few years of her life, Shauna enjoyed spending time on the river between Greene and Marble Rock with her husband, son, family and special river friends from Rudd and surrounding areas. She especially enjoyed floating on the pontoon.

    Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Steven Jones; son, Gabe (Mellisa) Leach; brother, Russell (Cindy) Bowers; sister-in-law, Jody Anderson; grandchildren, Kaylee, Zoey, Dustin, and Tyler; great-granddaughter, Ellie; uncle, Roger Suby; nephews, Jason (Nicole) Bowers and Jason (Susan) Anderson; niece, Tami (Scott) Harris; special cousins, Mark (Coni) Suby, Collette Turner, Kirk (Val) Suby, and Jody Sellon; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Wava Bowers; maternal grandparents, Wayne and Fay Burgess; paternal grandparents, Fredriek and Gleneth Bowers; father-in-law, Russell Jones; grandmother-in-law, Viola Rasmusson; cousin, Gary Sellon; nephew, Joey Anderson; niece, Trisha Anderson; special aunt, Colleen Suby; and many other Bowers aunts and uncles.

    CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Glenn Heitz, 94, of Charles City, died Friday, June 7, 2013, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

    Funeral services to honor the life of Glenn Heitz will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church. Pastor Martha Bennett of West Saint Charles United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in West Saint Charles Cemetery, rural Charles City. Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, and Thursday at the church an hour prior to the service.

    Glenn Cecil Heitz was born Feb. 7, 1919, in Floyd County, the son of George and Amanda (Theilke) Heitz. He attended country school and graduated from Charles City High School at the age of 16. A farmer by trade, he considered it a privilege to be able to tend the soil.

    Glenn treasured the written word and will be remembered for the volumes of the journal he started at age 19 and continued daily until 2013. This documented the lives of his family, his community and his world.

    His marriage to Gladys "Darlene" Baxter on March 20, 1949, became the main topic of the remaining chapters of his life. Added to the story were their children: Carol, Virgil, Randall and Jeanine.

    Raised to believe in hard work and sharing the talents he'd been given, Glenn included many community projects in the pages of his life. Of upmost importance was sharing his strong Christian values with his church family at West St. Charles United Methodist Church.

    A page from his diary is quoted at the Floyd County Fossil Prairie Center as part of a teaching exhibit that he contributed to. As secretary and member of the St. Charles Volunteer Fire Department for more than 30 years, rural fires and monthly meetings were recorded.

    After retiring, Darlene and Glenn worked as a team to become Master Gardeners and were instrumental in creating the Farmer's Market in Charles City. They supplied garden produce and baked goods until 2012. He mended books at the Charles City Library, delivered Meals on Wheels, called bingo at Cedar Health nursing home, loved the challenges of a new woodworking project, joined in community Bible studies and enjoyed singing in community choirs. Glenn was a 4-H leader and lifelong member of the Farm Bureau.

    Glenn is survived by his wife, Darlene Heitz of Charles City; three children: Carol (Bill) Schmidt of Rudd, Randall (Marilyn) Heitz and Jeanine (Joe) Tudor both of Charles City; nine grandchildren: Emily (Jim) Massey, Alyson (Aaron) Baltes, Derek (Carri) Heitz, Monica Heitz, Jessica (Stuart) Hall, Alex (Rosnee) Heitz, Amy Heitz, Eric Tudor and Aaron Tudor; five great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Linda Heitz of Lee's Summit, Mo.; and a sister, Velma (Donald) Schlick of Charles City.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Virgil Heitz; and two sisters: Lois Frankenfield and Lorraine Fox.

    Because of allergies, the family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be directed to the family or to an organization of choice.

    Dixie (Stickney) Cain

    Tampa, Florida - Dixie (Stickney) Cain, age 72, of Tampa, and formerly of Nora Springs, Iowa, died Sunday, June 2, 2013, at Hospice in Tampa.

    There is no visitation, her body was cremated. She will have a portion of her ashes sent back to Iowa to be buried by her parents, Jesse and Louise Stickney, at the Rudd Cemetery. She especially missed the springtime lilacs and will certainly have them now.

    Dixie was born March 2, 1941, in Nora Springs, attended and graduated from Nora Springs High School. She was united in marriage to Charles Cain and lived in Tampa, Florida. She had a deep love for her church and grandchildren. She loved listening to old music and reading magazines and regarding the olden days and topics on Mason City.

    She is survived by her husband, Charles, and two sons, Charlie and Jessie (Kathy) Cain; three grandchildren: Jasmine, Michael and Tabatha; one great-grandchild, Trey. Also surviving are a brother, Patrick (Bonnie) Stickney; sisters, Clara (Walt) Ingalls and Dianna (Spencer) Weaver; and many nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Louise Stickney; brother Jesse Jr.; and one sister Darlene.

    Duane Brunner

    Funeral services for Duane Brunner, 63, of Marble Rock, Iowa, will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 26, 2013, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Marble Rock, with Pastor Robert Scheurer officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

    Duane Brunner was born on August 18, 1949, in Greene, Butler County, Iowa a son of Orville and Lydia (Constien) Brunner and died Monday, January 21, 2013, at his home in Marble Rock

    He received his education in public schools graduating from RRMR in 1967. Following graduation he worked building grain bins for Farm Service in Charles City.

    Duane was a resident of Marble Rock that moved to his current home in 1965. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Marble Rock.

    He worked for the Molasses Factory in Rudd for many years, worked for Featherlite in Nashua and has worked for the past 10 years at Sukup in Sheffield.

    Duane was a quiet man, he was an avid reader, liked to garden, loved the Green Bay Packers, and tractor pulls. He was a very faithful follower of the local sporting events; especially the ones his nieces and nephews were participating in. Duane was family oriented and very close to his sisters.

    Living family members include his two sisters: Lynette Brunner of Marble Rock, and Jolene (Ron) Stotler of Greene and one honorary sister Marlene(Jerald) Nott of Nashua; nieces and nephews: Brent Brunner, Christopher(Rachel) Brunner, Alissa (Darren) Pfannebecker, Brandon Stotler, Jared (Valerie) Brunner, Ronnie Stotler; two Aunts: Joyce Constien of Greene and Esther Brunner of Charles City; ten great-nieces and nephews; and a faithful canine companion, Annie.

    Duane was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Steven; a sister in infancy, Brenda.

    Renee Udyell Parker

    Funeral Services for Renee Udyell Parker, 80, of Marble Rock will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Marble Rock with Pastor Bob Scheurer officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Marble Rock.

    Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Monday, February 18, 2013, at Reid's Funeral Chapel, 519 N. First St. Greene and will continue one hour before services on Tuesday at the church.

    Renee Udyell Hencken was born on January 14, 1933, in rural Butler County the daughter of Leonard and Madelin (Bryan) Hencken and died Saturday, February 16, 2013, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. She received her education in public schools graduating from Sumner High School in 1950. Following graduation she attended Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Rapids.

    On August 25, 1955, Renee was united in marriage to Kenneth 'Mike' Parker in Austin, MN.This union was blessed with two children, Pam and Philip.

    Renee was a fourth grade teacher in Greene for a few years. She devoted most of her time, however, to raising her family and chores on the farm. She was a very hard worker, an expert knitter, and an excellent cook. She enjoyed reading, loved flowers, the woods, and especially, hunting for Morel Mushrooms. Renee spent many hours babysitting her grandchildren, all of whom she treasured.

    Renee was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Marble Rock. She was the church piano player for 50 years, served as a counsel member, and taught Sunday school and Bible school. Renee was also a member of the Marble Rock Library Board.

    Living family members include: Husband Kenneth 'Mike' Parker, one daughter, Pam (Marc) Clough of Marble Rock, one son, Philip (Darla) Parker of Rockford; grandchildren: Christopher Staudt, Marble Rock, Jordan Staudt, Iowa City, Michaela Staudt, Marble Rock, Wesley Parker, San Antonio, Texas, Erika Parker, Rockford, Kylie Parker, San Antonio, Texas, Kalen Parker, Rockford; 2 step-grandchildren, 2 step-great grandchildren; one sister, Janice Hencken, Huntington, IN; many nieces and nephews.

    Renee was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Avis Hinrickson.

    Donald Bert Wickwire

    MASON CITY, IOWA - Donald Bert Wickwire, 69, of Mason City passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa. Online condolences may be left at www.fullertonfh.com.

    Don Wickwire was born on May 30, 1944, in Mason City to Donald and Leonne Wickwire. He attended Mason City High School. Don spent most of his life in the Mason City area, but had also lived in Buffalo Center, Iowa, Ottumwa, Iowa, and Tennessee. Don worked as a truck driver for several companies throughout his life. For enjoyment he liked to golf, play pool, and go bowling with his buddies. He also volunteered at the Senior Center in Mason City where he had served as a board member. He loved playing bingo and cards. Above all else, Don loved spending time and playing with his grandchildren the most. He had a playful "grumpy old man" sense of sarcasm and humor that his family will truly miss.

    Don is survived by eight children Tina, Jim, David, Dawn, Dana, Shane, Diamond, and Francis, 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and loyal dog companion Major.

    Bradley Kent Hague

    GILBERTVILLE, IOWA - Bradley Kent Hague, 51, of Gilbertville, died at home Friday, May 31.

    Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at Celebrations Assembly of God Church, Waterloo.

    He was born October 6, 1961, in Carroll, son of Audrey Joan and Mervin Duane Hague. He was married to his wife, Connie, for 23 years.

    He was employed at Eagle Ottawa Tannery for 20 years and later completed his associate degree in animal science and veterinary technology.

    Survived by: two daughters, Hannah Hague (Brandon) Knight of Waterloo and Elizabeth Hague of West Des Moines; a granddaughter, Amelia Elizabeth Knight; his parents, Audrey and Mervin Hague of Gilbertville; and a sister, Julie Hildebrand of Charles City.

    Preceded in death by: maternal and paternal grandparents; and a sister, Tammy Hague Smith.

    Memorial fund: has been established for Bradley at Veridian Credit Union for his daughters and family. Cards can also be sent directly to Hannah Knight or Elizabeth Hague.

    Deanna Marie (Krueger,Neve) Penland

    Deanna Neve Penland, 44, of Charles City died Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at the Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

    The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at the Hauser Funeral Home.

    Deanna Marie Krueger Neve Penland was born August 20, 1968, at Charles City, the daughter of Dean and Terri (Cline) Krueger. She graduated in 1986 from Charles City High School. On May 3, 2013, she married Russell Penland. Over the years Deanna worked at All-States Quality Foods, Casey's, Kraft Foods, and was a waitress and housekeeper. Her interests included sewing, puzzles, watching television and spending time with her family.

    Living family members include her husband, Russ Penland of Charles City; two children, Ashley (Dustin) High of Charles City and Kenin Neve and special friend Emerald Schlie of Charles City; a brother, Chad Krueger of Charles City; two half-brothers, Ryan Krueger and Kevin Krueger both of Charles City; step brother, Aaron Karnes of Osage City, Kansas; step sister, Kelly Jo Karnes of St. Louis, Missouri; granddaughter, Dezerae Shreve; mother and step father, Terri (Jess) Griffin of Charles City; and special friend Jackie Vail of Texas.

    She was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents; and her father.

    WATERLOO, IOWA - George L. Mackamul, 81, of Waterloo, died Sunday, June 9, 2013 at his home.

    He was born December 21, 1931, in Charles City, Iowa, son of Nicholas and Mae (Bill) Mackamul. He married Peggy Jones on May 31, 1952 in Roswell, New Mexico.

    He was employed at the shoe shop and theater in Charles City; Rath Packing in Waterloo; owned and operated a shoe and upholstery shop in Swea City; worked at IPS, and then was proprietor of Waverly Bowl Inn. He served as Mayor of Bassett, Iowa and was Vice President of Golden Acres Association.

    Survived by: his wife, Peggy; three daughters, Lourie (Dan) Usher of Waverly, Vicky (Mark) Wellik of Charlotte, NC, and Amie (Ty) Bridges of Columbus, OH; one son, John (Gena) of Waverly; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sisterin- law, Pauline Mackamul of Highland, CA.

    Preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, Lester and Joe Mackamul; and two sisters, Anne Hume and Delores Swinton.

    His body has been deeded to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program. Family directed memorials services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, July 22, 2013 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly, where visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date in Harlington Cemetery, Waverly.

    Allan Klinetop was born on May 3, 1920, to Frank and Clara (Smith) Klinetop at their home on a farm outside of Charles City. Growing up Al had four brothers and one sister. As a child he learned how to fly from Ray Henry.

    Al attended a country school one mile south of Charles City. He graduated from Charles City High School. After high school he studied at a Foundry Practice Correspondence School. He also served in the United States Air Corp during World War II. It was after the Air Force that Al used his education to work at Oliver/White Farm in Charles City as a Foundry Foreman for 30 years. Throughout his life Al was blessed with two spouses, Arlene and Evelyn. Al spent his whole life in the Charles City area living on his farm which he loved. In his free time he enjoyed flying, fishing, and hunting. His greatest joys in life was learning how to fly and spending time with his family.

    Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Marvin (Sheryl) Klinetop of Floyd; stepson, Larry (Mary) Weaverling of Des Moines, IA; grandchildren, Nicholas (Nicole) Klinetop of Charles City and Amber (Jeremy) Deverell of Charles City; step-grandchildren, Shawn Weaverling and Ryan (Heather) Weaverling; greatgrandchildren, Elijah, Gabriella, Victoria, and Callista; and step-great-grandchildren, Tristan and Sydney.

    James "Jack" Frascht, 84, of Charles City, died Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at Cedar Health in Charles City.

    A funeral Mass for Jack Frascht will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Reverend Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Charles City.

    James Joseph Frascht was born September 24, 1928, in Floyd County, the son of John Joseph and Dorothy (Dickoff) Frascht. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1946. On October 12, 1946, he was united in marriage to Marian Jacobson. They farmed all their lives north of Charles City. Jack was a member in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge and a lifelong member of the Moose Lodge where he served as secretary and governor for several years. He enjoyed playing cards, gaming and animals of all types. Jack was known for his daily trips to the elevator to talk with his friends. Family was very important to Jack and he looked forward to sharing life's experiences with them.

    Eileen Burkhardt was born on April 6, 1919, in Greene, to Thomas Anthony and Edna Rose (Addison) Hagarty. She graduated from Floyd schools. On February 20, 1946, she was united in marriage to Frank Burkhardt. To this union were born a daughter and four sons. Frank and Eileen farmed in Clarksville, Floyd and settled on a farm outside Charles City.

    In December 1987, Frank and Eileen retired to their home in Charles City where she lived until the time of her death. Throughout her life, Eileen worked at the Floyd telephone office, assisted priests with meals at Memorial Hospital, Waverly, and was also employed at a canning factory in Waverly. The occupation she held the longest was that of farm family homemaker. As a grandmother, Eileen loved spending time with her grandchildren and family. Eileen was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church and of St. Catherine's Circle and was a member of the General Guild. Eileen volunteered many years at 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City. Eileen will be missed by all of those who knew her.

    Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Mike (Jean) Burkhardt of Mankato, Minnesota, Dan (Julie) Burkhardt of Minnetrista, Minnesota, Jim (Carol) Burkhardt of Allison, David (Diane) Burkhardt of Charles City, and Elaine (Bruce) Oimoen of Clear Lake; sister, Kathleen Lambert of Waterloo; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; caregivers, Sharon Bonwell, Jan Lovik, Lori Hoisington, Cassie Hoisington, Katie Eggers, Samantha Tabbert, Coleen Berhow, Jeri Sweet, Diane Bilharz, Jacque Hennick and many more.

    Chester Allen Huffman was born February 18, 1938, at Charles City, the son of Chester H. and Alice (Jordan) Huffman. He received his education from Charles City High School.

    On September 17, 1988, he was united in marriage to Marlene Vick Kuhn. Chet worked at Guthart grocery and for 31 years at the Oliver/White Farm Equipment Co.

    He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and had served for eight years on the board of the Labor Center.

    Among his many interests were fishing, hunting, gaming, gardening, cooking, canning and playing a rousing game of cribbage. He also enjoyed going to garage sales and antiquing which led to a spring and fall antique garage sale.

    Chet looked forward to the time he could spend with his family and share life's experiences with them. Sunday was always a special time for morning brunch with the kids.

    Living family members include his wife, Marlene Huffman of Charles City; four children: M.     Donald R. "Don" Mougey

    Donald R. "Don" Mougey, 68, passed from this life to the next at the University of Cincinnati hospital on June 10, 2013, surrounded by his family.

    Don, as he was known by his many friends was born on August 1, 1944, in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio, the son of the late Hubert Donald Mougey and Erma Lehman Mougey. He retired from his position as Purchasing Supervisor for North American Stainless in 2009. Before that he was Director of Logistics at Solvay Animal Health in Charles City and Manager of Purchasing in Madison, Wisconsin.

    He was a graduate of the University of Dayton in engineering, Cardinal Stritch College of Business and Chaminade High School. Don grew up in Dayton, Ohio learning to love Ohio State football. He and his wife lived in Madison, Wis. where they adopted three children, made many cherished friendships before moving to Charles City where he also made many wonderful friendships before moving to Carrollton, Kentucky.

    For the last 17 years, Don restored and cared for the historic home that he and his wife operated as the Highland House Bed and Breakfast. Don was a Roman Catholic by faith but believed deeply in the community of all people. He loved photography and gardening but was happiest caring for his many bonsai trees or helping as a member of various City of Carrollton committees and projects. He was a former president and then treasurer of the Main Street program, served as chairman of Design Review Board, and board member and treasurer of Carroll County Tourism. Whatever he did he brought a passion, energy and love of people that was his greatest gift.

    Cherishing his memory and mourning their loss are his wife of 43 years, Ruth, daughter Brooke and sons Randy (Charles City) and Paul (Mason City); sisters Kathy Kropff (Dayton, Ohio) and Susan Dearth (Atlanta, Mich.); brothers Pete and Dan Mougey (Dayton, Ohio); sisters in-law Julie Mougey, Mary Ann Rericha (McKinney, Texas); brothers-in-law John Miller (Columbus, Ohio) and Tom Miller (Ghent, Ky.) and Don Dearth; nieces and nephews Kris and Andy Kropff, Caitlin, Rebekah and Courtney Mougey, Kristen and Jeff Hurst, Erin and Jeff VanDyke, Ann-Marie and Ben Todd and Tara and David Rericha, plus four grandchildren, eleven great-nieces and greatnephews and many cousins, especially Judy (Charlie) Wright and Joyce (Tom) Gauldin.

    Don was preceded in death by his parents Whitey (Hubert) and Erma Mougey, grandson Marcus Smoot, grandparents Raymond and Marie Mougey and Henry and Viola Lehman, in-laws Henry and Frances Miller, sister-in-law Theresa Mougey and niece Natasha Mougey.

    A celebration of his life is planned for Saturday, July 27, at 2 p.m. at his home, the Highland House Bed and Breakfast in Carrollton, Kentucky.

    He chose to donate to a tissue bank whatever parts of his body that could be used to help others. In lieu of flowers, a donation in his memory to the charity of your choice would honor his wishes.     Emery Neymeyer

    Emery Neymeyer, age 84 of Greene, died on Thursday, June 13, 2013, at the Waverly Health Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, at the West Friesland Presbyterian Church, rural Ackley with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1-3 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Greene and also 8-10 a.m. Tuesday before services at the West Friesland Presbyterian Church, rural Ackley. The Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley is in charge of arrangements.

    Emery Dale Neymeyer was born on Aug. 28, 1928, on the family farm in German Township, Grundy County, IA. He was the fourth child of John J. and Elizabeth (Harken) Neymeyer. In 1937, Emery moved with his family to the "big farm" three miles SW of Austinville. The family remained there until after the war was over. Emery then moved to Ackley with his parents.

    Emery attended Island Grove country school. He then graduated from the Aplington High School as class president of the class of 1947. Following graduation Emery worked for Frudden Lumber in Ackley. On April 7, 1949, Emery was united in marriage to Norma Lee Freese of Ackley. Their marriage took place in the West Friesland Presbyterian Church in Grundy County. This is the same church Emery's family had attended since before he was born.

    Emery farmed with his father-in-law Christian Freese for two years following their marriage. In 1951, Emery and Norma moved their family to their current farm in Floyd County. Emery worked for White Farm Equipment, formerly Oliver Tractor Works, in Charles City for 25 years until the plant closed. Emery and Norma farmed together until he was 80 years old.

    Emery and Norma are the parents of two children, Cheryl A. of rural Greene and Loren J. of Ackley. They have two grandchildren, Nik and his wife, Katie of Marion and Kimberlyn Burlage and her husband, Matt of Cedar Rapids; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Knock.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lester and Wayne Neymeyer; and a sister, Irene Estrada.

    John G. Geesman

    Charles City, Iowa - John G. Geesman, 80, of Charles City, died Monday, June 17, 2013, at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

    A private family graveside service was held on June 29, 2013, at Riverview Cemetery in Algona. Full military honors were conducted by the Algona American Legion and V.F.W.

    Memorials and cards may be sent to 2081 Quail Ave., Charles City, IA 50616. Gifts will be directed to the Floyd County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary in Charles City, in memory of John G. Geesman.

    John Gordon Geesman was born March 6, 1933, in Albert Lea, Minn., the youngest of 11 children of John C. and Stella (Schroeder) Geesman. He grew up on a farm near Alden, Minnesota, moving with his family to Burt, Iowa, where he graduated from Burt High School in 1951.

    He served in the United States Marine Corps being stationed at Camp Pendleton. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant after passing his exam on November 4, 1953.

    John was united in marriage to Doris LaVonne Riebhoff on July 10, 1954, in Rockwell City. They moved to Ames where he studied engineering prior to going to linotype printing school.

    John and Doris made their home in Greene where he worked at the Greene Recorder Newspaper. In 1980, they moved to make their home in rural Charles City.

    John enjoyed following politics and the stock market. He was an honest, fair and loving man who enjoyed spending time with his family.

    He is survived by three children: Lois Gilmore and her husband, Terry of Farmington, Minn., Jayne Pluth and her husband, Dr. Jim Pluth of Rochester, Minn., and John T. Geesman of Mason City; seven grandchildren: Allison (Joseph Ross) Gilmore of Los Angeles, Calif., Michael Gilmore of Farmington, Minn., Daniel (Brittany Petrick) Pluth of Ames, Anthony (Sara) Pluth of Chaska, Minn., Michelle Pluth of Rochester, Minn., John W. (Brittany) Geesman of Waterloo, and Ashley Geesman of Mason City; and one great-grandson, Elliot Gilmore Ross. He is also survived by one sister, Florence White of Fargo, N.D., and many nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Doris, on May 3, 2001; and by nine brothers and sisters: Jean, Charles, Eileen, Nina, Jim, Gerald, Lila, Earl and Howard.

    William W. Cavett passed away in Medford, Oregon, on June 14, 2013.

    He was born in Charles City on December 22, 1931, to Dr. and Mrs. J.W. Cavett.

    He is survived by two children, Kurt and Carisse, and his sister Mary (Cavett) Lindaman. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ann; and his brother, Bob Cavett.

    Duncan Logan Lampman

    Duncan Logan Lampman, 94, of Carterville, Illinois, died Friday, December 28, 2012, at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion, Illinois.

    He was born in Black Earth, Wisconsin, on Sept. 17, 1918, to Francis Arthur and Carrie Ellen (Logan) Lampman.

    He attended Charles City schools and graduated as valedictorian in 1936. He then graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in 1940 with high honors and majors in industrial arts and mathematics and a minor in physics. He earned his Masters of Science Education Degree from Southern Illinois University in 1956. He retired in June of 1986 after more than 40 years in education, most at Southern Illinois University where he was an associate professor.

    He was preceded in death by his parents. Duncan is survived by his wife of 67 years, Wilma Lampman, one daughter, two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.

    There will be a committal at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

    Duncan Lampman

    CARTERVILLE - Duncan Lampman, 94, died Friday, December 28, 2012, in Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.

    He was born Sept. 17, 1918, in Black Earth, Wis., to Francis Arthur and Carrie Ellen (Logan) Lampman.

    He attended Charles City, Iowa, public schools and graduated as a valedictorian in 1936. Duncan then graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in 1940 with high honors and majors in industrial arts and mathematics and a minor in physics. He taught industrial arts, mathematics and general science courses at the high school in Lake Mills, Iowa; Drewry Practice High School of Talladega College in Talladega, Ala.; and Franklin Junior High School of Ottumwa, Iowa.

    Duncan married Wilma Lucille Abbey on May 23, 1945, in Asbury Methodist Church in Lake Mills, Iowa.

    Throughout his life, Duncan gained numerous work experiences, including two YMCA camp counselor and craft instructor jobs, carpentry, a stint in the engineering department of Ottumwa's John Deere Plant, and 22 years of part-time work in the engineering department at Diagraph Bradley, where several of his ideas resulted in patents.

    Duncan came to Southern Illinois University in 1954 to teach in the Vocational Technical Institute. He, along with VTI and its successors, taught courses in machine drafting and design, blueprint reading, statics and strength of materials, construction drawing, structural mechanics and safety. He made a special effort to design performance tests which would reveal student "know-how" and problem-solving abilities.

    He earned his Masters of Science Education Degree from SIU in 1956. He always wanted to learn more, taking many courses throughout his life at Iowa State College, SIU and National Science Foundation offerings at the University of Houston and Bucknell University.

    Duncan retired in June 1986 after 40-plus years in education from what has become the College of Applied Sciences and Arts as an associate professor.

    At various times in his academic career, he accepted membership in the honorary and service fraternities of Epsilon Pi Tau, Kappa Mu Epsilon, Kappa Delta Pi, Blue Key, Iota Lambda Sigma and Phi Kappa Phi, and for many years he served as the national secretary-treasurer of the Associated Two-Year Schools in Construction.

    As hobbies, he enjoyed woodworking; volunteering; refinishing heirloom furniture; gardening; and playing the clarinet in various musical groups, including the John A. Logan Community College Band, a German band, the Southern Illinois Concert Band, and earlier in the SIU Symphony Orchestra.

    Duncan was a member of SIU Alumni Association and had served on the Scholarship Committee of SIU Emeritus Association.

    In retirement, he was a volunteer with blood drives and "New Student Weeks" at SIU Bookstore.

    Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Wilma Lampman; daughter and son-in-law, Linda Ann and Gordon VonQualen of Gardner; granddaughters and their husbands, Leanne and Greg Koch of Spokane, Wash., and Karen Abbey and David Bunting of North Aurora; great-grandchildren, Natalie and Carson Bunting,and Grant and Lindsay Koch; sisters-in-law, Valeda Abbey of Joice, Iowa, and Marjorie McKee of Duluth, Minn.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

    He was preceded in death by his parents.

    Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, in Riggin-Pillatsch and Burke Funeral Home in Carterville. Burial will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery in Charles City, Iowa. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

    Lori Elizabeth Meyer Burman was born April 17, 1959, at Charles City, the daughter of Victor and Phyllis (Frudden) Meyer. She attended school in Charles City graduating in 1977 and continued her education receiving a four-year degree from UNI and an associate of science degree from Hawkeye Community College. On Aug. 6, 1988, she was united in marriage to David Burman in her backyard on the banks of the Cedar River. Lori worked at Allen Memorial Hospital for 28 years as an EKG Technician and a Cardiac Rehab Specialist. She was an avid bicyclist who participated in RAGBRAI on numerous occasions and had ridden her bicycle to all of the highest points in Colorado. She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter KL in Cedar Falls. Lori loved bicycling, walking in the woods, bird watching and just enjoyed nature in general. She was always up for a good cup of coffee or a good glass of wine.

    Living family members include her husband, Dave of Trempealeau, Wis.; mother, Phyllis Meyer of Charles City; three siblings, Leslie (Dr. Kevin) Kane of Dubuque, Lisa Meyer (Sam Grabarski) of St. Paul, Minn. and Chuck (Christi) Meyer of Charles City; four nieces and nephews, Dr. Nicholas (Dr. Adrienne) Kane, Keriann Kane (Chad Lynch-friend), Brendon Kane (Ashley Beaves-friend) and Madison Meyer; along with other family members and friends.

    Lorraine was born on March 23, 1922, to James and Loretta (Conway) Stapleton in Nashua. As a young child, Lorraine moved with her family to Elma where she grew up and graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in 1940. She worked at the Elma Post Office. Lorraine was united in marriage to Merle Hayden on June 23, 1943, in Boise, Idaho. The couple made their home in Elma and Waterloo then moved to their present home in Charles City.

    Lorraine kept books for their trucking business and then kept books for Farm Fleet. She especially loved attending her children's sporting events and spending time with her grandson, Cole. Lorraine was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City and the Charles City VFW Auxiliary.

    Lorraine is survived by the couple's children, Sandra Kostka of Springdale, Arkansas, Bill Hayden of Nora Springs, Larry Hayden of Charles City, and Trish (Tommy) Hayden-Brown of Wake Forest, North Carolina; one brother-in-law, Jack (Kay) Hayden of Elma; one grandson, Cole Hayden of Waterloo and nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merle Hayden on August 21, 2012; her brothers, Harold and Robert Stapleton and her sister Betty Springer.

    Charles City, Iowa - Joan Tector, 78, of Charles City, Iowa, died Sunday, June 23, 2013, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home.

    Memorial services for Joan Tector will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Mr. Dennis Brock will officiate.

    Mary Joan Rithmiller Tector was born September 13, 1934, at Chicago, Ill., the daughter of John and Mary Frances (Morse) Rithmiller. She graduated from Maine Township in Park Ridge, Ill., and took nurses training at St. Luke's Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago. On August 27, 1955, she was united in marriage to Richard Tector at Park Ridge. They moved to Charles City in 1959.

    Joan was employed at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital from 1959 to 1994 primarily in the Emergency Department, where she will be remembered for her loving care of others during their difficult times. She became one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1957 and served as a full-time minister since 1960.

    Joan loved teaching others the Bible and sharing her faith. She enjoyed her nursing profession and used her skills in the first-aid department at conventions of Jehovah's Witnesses and Kingdom Hall building projects throughout the years.

    Joan and Dick loved their many travels with fellow Witnesses. They left a trail of friends worldwide, not the least of whom were their workmates in the Honduras.

    Joan liked to play the piano and the organ and loved her garden. She was known for her tireless energy and always-ready hospitality, and her willingness to put the needs of others ahead of her own.

    Joan will be very much missed by her husband, her family and many, many wonderful friends.

    Living family members include her husband, Richard of Charles City; sister, Jean Wescott of Belle Haven, Va.; sister-in-law, Kitty Tector of Manitowoc, Wisc; and nieces and nephews, Kevin Tector, Denise Tector-Rutherford, Kariann Thon, Michelle Maclay Herndon and Nathaniel Wescott.

    She was preceded in death by her parents.

    Beverly Jean Lodge

    Beverly Jean Lodge, 73, a retired entrepreneur, of Las Vegas, passed away June 19, 2013.

    She was born in Charles City, and had been a resident of Nevada since 1994.

    Beverly is survived by a son, Eric Lodge and his wife, Paula, of Castle Pines, Colorado, and her mother, Grace Heddens of Charles City.

    Shortly after graduating high school she married her childhood sweetheart, John Clarke Lodge, and followed him during his 20 years in the U.S. Navy. John was a corporate pilot until his death in 1990. Eric is now a professional pilot in Colorado flying private jets throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

    Beverly also had her private pilot license, real estate license, and scuba open-water dive certification. She loved garage sales, thrift shops and spending time with her three grand-daughters; Maggie, Katie and Hannah Lodge.

    The family would like to thank all the well-wishers in Beverly's groups and apologize for not having an open funeral or memorial service because of living out-of-town.

    Crystal Renee Hutzell was born March 1, 1985, in Clayton County, Ga., the daughter of Keith and Judith (Marcurella) Stroud. At an early age, the family moved back to the Nashua area. Crystal received her education in Nashua and attended the Nashua High School through her junior year. She stayed home to care for her family after her children were born.

    Survivors include one son, Ethan Myher; one daughter, Alyce Myhre; special friend, Nathan Sheppard; the children's father, Nathan Myhre all of Charles City; one brother, Michael (Christina) Stroud of Nashua; two sisters, Kim Stroud and Stephanie Stroud, both of Charles City; aunt, Margaret (Jerry) Mueller of Tripoli; nieces and nephews, Christian Hillman, Aubreigh Stroud, Michael Stroud Jr., Ashlyn Stroud, all of Nashua.

    She was preceded in death by her parents and an aunt, Joyce Liddle.

    Marnie Jo Jurrens

    In loving memory of Marnie Jo Jurrens who passed away March 21, 2013, at Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman, Texas.

    Marnie was born on June 4, 1947, to Virgil and Mabel (Pretti) Waters in Canon City, Colorado. Marnie married Jim Jurrens on September 6, 1969. She and Jim moved to Minnesota in 1972 where they had two children, Kendra and Jimy. In 1988, they moved to Texas and made Pottsboro their home.

    Marnie retired in 2006. Marnie's world revolved around her two grandchildren, Farrin and Caston. She enjoyed camping with Jim and her grandchildren and spending time with family and friends.

    She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Jim Jurrens; parents, Virgil and Mabel Waters; brother, Bill Waters; inlaws, Kenny and Madeline Simmons; and brother-in-law, Skeet Jurrens.

    Survivors include her children Kendra (Johnny Walker), and Jimy (Chrissy), her grandchildren Farrin and Caston, all of Pottsboro, Texas. Her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Cherrie and Darrin Schiltz and two nieces, Kimberly Schiltz all of Albert Lea, Minnesota, and Amanda Schiltz of Warren, Michigan. A sister-in-law, Sue Jurrens (Skeet) of Mason City, and a niece, Alicia (Mike) Tobin of Charles City and a nephew, Chris Jurrens of Ames. Sister-in-law Beth Waters of Canon City, Colo. and special friends Brandi Walker McRight and Becca Procnow of Texas, and Darrell and Jenny Ross of Charles City.

    Marnie lived a full and happy life and will always be remembered for her nursing skills, her quick wit and her ability to laugh, even during hard times. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and many friends. The family held a private memorial service in Texas.

    Eugene "Gene" Franklin Barnard I

    Eugene "Gene" Franklin Barnard I, 95, passed away on June 20, 2013 at Kansas Christian Home in Newton, Kansas. He was born April 25, 1918 to Orval Franklin and Ina Pearl (Trimble) Barnard, in the Christian Church parsonage in Osborne, Kansas. A sister, Elva Ilene (Barnard) Koch, was born on November 7, 1921. All three preceded him in death.

    On June 1, 1939, Gene and Eunice (Jari) Clara Jarrett were married by his father at First Christian Church in Atchison, Kansas. She preceded him in death in 1999. They are survived by six children: Genene Kay (Steve) Faubion, Salina, KS; Eugene Franklin Barnard II, Hutchinson, KS; Lynn Edward Barnard, Laguna Niguel, CA; J.Lee Barnard, Chino, CA; Kristin Gay (Art) James, Hemet, CA; and Donna Sue (Frank) Basirico, Menifee, CA. Also survived by: 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and Gene's special friend, Eucola May, and family of Nardin, OK.

    Gene graduated from High School in Doniphan, Kansas in 1936. He began raising and showing poultry as a 4-H project. This passion led to him becoming a Poultry Judge in January of 1940.

    He worked in Kansas Hatcheries (including one in Newton). Spent 33 months (1943-46) in the US Army serving in Germany and France during WWII and was a 1st Lieutenant when discharged. He went back to work for Salsbury Laboratories selling medications for livestock (mostly poultry) while traveling in Kansas, Missouri and California before moving to the home office in Charles City, IA in 1969. He was Director of Sales when he retired early in 1981 after 38 years with the company.

    Gene and Jari then moved to Rogers, AR and he more actively pursued the raising, showing and judging of poultry across the US. Until his death, Gene was the oldest living American Poultry Association Judge.

    A Memorial Service will be held at 11:15 a.m., Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at Kansas Christian Home, 1035 SE 3rd St, Newton, KS. Officiating will be Rev. Denny Bell, Chaplain at the home, and Rev. Gary Bell, pastor of First Christian Church in Newton (where Gene was a member). Since cremation has been chosen, a family service will be held at a later date at the Doniphan Cemetery in northeast Kansas.

    Kay Yvonne Elsbury, daughter of Clair and Florence (Prehn) Walker, was born April 17, 1938, in Rochester, Minn. She graduated from Nora Springs High School in 1955 before attending beauty school in Mason City. Kay owned and operated Kay's Clip and Curl in Nora Springs for more than 30 years and worked at the Nora Springs Care Center for 10 years doing hair.

    Kay was united in marriage to James E. Elsbury on Sept. 11, 1976, at the Nora Springs United Methodist Church. They lived in Nora Springs for the past 30 years.

    In Kay's earlier years she enjoyed sewing and cross-stitching and later began collecting dolls and loved watching the birds. Kay always had a good time and conversation with everyone she knew. She loved playing both indoor and outdoor games, dancing and an occasional ride on the motorcycle.

    She was an active member in the Nora Springs United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

    She is survived by her husband, Jim Elsbury, Nora Springs; children, Cindy Harris, Kimberling City, Missouri, Kevin (Holly) Engels, Milliken, Colorado, Kirk Engels, Fort Collins, Colo., and Kelly (Scott Knutson) Engels, Mason City; grandchildren, Chad and Cody Harris, Kendra (Matt) Blatner, Kiersten Engels, Matt (Kristen) Engels, Ryan (Marianne) Engels, and Trevor (Carly) Engels, Mariah and Kayden Knutson, Stephanie Krueger, and Dana (Ben) Burns; great-grandchildren, Madeline, Brianna, Peyton, Julia, Nathan, Tyler, Benjamin, Grady, Daniel and Jackson; brothers, Darrel (Wanda) Walker, Nora Springs, and Orrin Dean Walker, Rockford; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, and son-in-law, Dan Harris.

    Shirley Hahn, 83, of Littleton, Colorado, and formerly a long time resident of Charles City, Iowa, died on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, peacefully, at home with her family.

    She is survived by her two children David Hahn (and wife Debra), Mark Hahn (and Michelle Stopher); three grandchildren Angela Minutillo (and husband Jason), Adam Hahn and Michael Hahn; two great-grandchildren Jessica and Ava Minutillo; and brother Roger Barlow.

    She was preceded in death by her husband Laverne Hahn, parents Lloyd and Amanda Barlow; siblings Dorothy Moody, Norma Jean Maldonado, Betty Hayner and Kenny Barlow.

    Shirley passed away in Lonetree, Colorado on June 19, 2013 at the age of 83. She was preceded in death by her husband, Laverne. Survivors include her sons, David and Mark Hahn; her grandchildren: Angela Minutillo, Adam Hahn and Michael Hahn; and two great granddaughters: Jessica and Ava.

    Curtis Townsley, 55, of Lyle, Minn., formerly of Charles City, died at his home on Wednesday, June 19, 2013.

    Funeral services for Curtis Townsley will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at the Hauser Funeral Home. Pastor Jim Beranek of Trinity United Methodist Church will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date.

    Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to7 p.m. Friday and Saturday one hour prior to the service.

    Curtis Edwin Townsley was born August 30, 1957, at Charles City, the son of Donald and Betty (Jorgensen) Townsley. He graduated in 1976 from Charles City High School. Over the years he worked at White Farm Equipment Company and the Hormel Food Corporation. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion. Curtis was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and also enjoyed watching NASCAR and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He will be remembered as a person who enjoyed playing jokes.

    Living family members include his mother Betty Kluwe of Charles City; three siblings, Pam (Ken) Boge of Orchard, Greg (Mary) Townsley of Lyle, Minnesota, and Tam Townsley of Tiffin; six nieces and nephews, Kenny (Deb) Boge, Aaron (Julie) Boge, Amy (Tony) McFarland, Tanya (Jeff) Jensen, Ashley (Jeff) Higgins and Nikki Townsley; several great nieces and nephews; along with other family members and friends.

    He was preceded in death by his father Donald and his step-father Ben Kluwe.
