In March 2012, they went to Florida with their daughter and her husband and celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. They visited the Holy Land Experience and visited his beloved Ingham. Ed always put the Lord and his family first. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Marjorie Martin

Marjorie Martin, 95, of Charles City, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.

Per Marjorie’s request funeral services will be private.

Marjorie Juanita McFall Martin was born May 27, 1917, at Moulton, the daughter of Austin and Ferrie (Moss) McFall. Shortly after her graduation from Moulton High School she fell in love and married a handsome radio singer, Archie Martin. They became parents of three and as her husband changed professions to support a growing family they subsequently made their home in Moline and Rockford, Ill.; and it was from Anoka, Minn., Archie was chosen for the Manhattan Project in Las Alamos, New Mexico. During his absence, Marjorie, like so many women during this era, joined the war effort by working at Federal Cartridge in Anoka, all the while shouldering the responsibility of both mother and father to her three children. After Archie discharged his obligation to the project, they moved to Charles City where he joined his brother, William, and formed Martin Brothers –a paint contracting business. The size of their family grew during the ensuing years by three, making a total of six children. Marjorie eventually returned to the work force at Dr. Salsbury’s Laboratories, later Solvay and currently Pfizer, as department secretary/office manager. She took great pride in her association there and made many friends, due in no small part to her conscientious work ethic and acumen. \She retired in 1992 and enjoyed years of joyful carefree times wintering in Arizona before Alzheimer’s made further trips impossible. Marjorie’s family was her first priority, and she adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a meticulous housekeeper (dubbed Mrs. Clean) and family joked that heart surgery could safely be performed on her garage floor. She loved working in her yard – as its appearance reflected. Marjorie was a marvelous cook – and family holiday dinners were a gastronomical delight – and the happiest times. She will be remembered for her resilience, boundless energy, unerring focus on perfection, sweet, gentle spirit and loving, giving nature.

Living family members include her children, Brenda (Gary) Molitor and Debbra (Scott) Metcalf, both of Mason City; James (Sonja) Martin of Phoenix, Ariz., Charlotte Springer and Kathryn Herbrechtsmeyer, both of Charles City; a sister, Maxine Farren, of Knoxville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Archie; a daughter, Sharon Lynette; a great-grandson, Ryan Martin; and a brother, Richard McFall.
