Dellma E. Henrichs

Delma E. Henrichs, 89, of Allison, Iowa passed away May 1, 2003 at the Waverly Municipal Hospital in Waverly, Iowa. On July 29, 1913, in Butler County, she was born to Herman & Denna (Lubben) DeBower. Delma attended schools in Butler County and Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She married Henry S. Henrichs on March 2, 1938 in Allison, Iowa. Delma worked as a teacher and a homemaker. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School for several years and was in many women’s groups in the church. Delma also enjoyed cooking. She is survived by her two sons: Harley & wife, Kathryn Henrichs of Shell rock and Don Henrichs of Allison; five grandchildren: Steve & wife Julie Henrichs of Hastings, Minnesota, Dennis Henrichs of Prairie City, Kimberly Henrichs, Kyle Henrichs, and Mark Henrichs, all of Allison; three great grandchildren: Erin, Elizabeth and Erika Henrichs. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son Roger, daughter-in-law Nancy Henrichs, two brothers and three sisters. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 3, 2003 at St. James Lutheran Church in Allison with Rev. Jerry Laehn officiating. Special music was provided by organist, Robin Morton accomp-anying the congregational singing. The flower committee was Lois McDowell and Eileen Wust. Pallbearers were Calvin Fick, Steve Henrichs, Ernest DeBower, Kyle Henrichs, Robert Janssen and Ron Westendorf. Final resting place was in the Butler Center Cemetery, rural Allison, Iowa. Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Gweneth (Dailey) Borland

Gweneth (Dailey) Borland, 89, of New Port Richey, Florida passed away April 28, 2003 at the Bear Creek Nursing Center in Hudson, Florida. She was born on November 6, 1913 in Harris, Iowa to Lester Jay and Lula Belle (Smith) Hagerty. Gweneth graduated from the Allison High School and then went to beauty and cosmetology school in Waterloo, Iowa. On August 26, 1936, she married Paul E. Dailey in Parkersburg, Iowa. After his death she married Delmar Borland. Gweneth owned and operated her beauty shop in Allison. She was on the entertainment committees at the Colony Cove Mobile Home Park, a member of the Rod & Reel Club, and was the Schuffle Board Champion of Sun Coast League, and an avid bridge player. She is survived by her daughter Janice Dailey and her husband David C. Heckman of Dayton, Minnesota; son Keith J. Dailey of Los Angeles, California, two brothers: Glenn Hagerty of Allison, Iowa and Dean Hagerty of Moses Lake, Washington; three grand-children; two great grandchildren; five step grandchildren and one step great grandchild. Gweneth was preceded in death by her parents; first husband Paul; second husband Delmar; one brother and two sisters. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 3, 2003 at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Allison with Fr. Walter Brunkan officiating. Pallbearers were Scott Hagerty, Daniel Hagerty, David Dailey, Derold Happel, Vincent Dailey and David Heckman. Final resting place was in the Allison Cemetery with Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Allison in charge of arrangements.


Betty J. Cooper

Betty J. Cooper, 82, of Allison, Iowa passed away May 4, 2003 at the Waverly Municipal Hospital in Waverly, Iowa. She was born December 24, 1920 in LaPorte City, Iowa to Ralph and Letha (Ashley) Foss. Betty graduated from LaPorte City High School. She married Allen Cooper on January 18, 1941 in Nashua, Iowa. Betty worked as a Deputy Clerk in the Butler County Courthouse. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and was in many of the Women’s groups in the church. She was also a member of the Elk’s Club in Alabama, and a member of the Eastern Star. Betty loved to crochet afghans and give them to her grandchildren. She is survived by three sons: Marvin (Jack) and wife Carolyn Cooper of Allison, Steve and wife Susanne Cooper of Osage and Hugh and wife Barb Cooper of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; two brothers: Ashley Foss of LaPorte City and Lee Foss of LaPorte City; a sister: Barb Reinhardt of Crescent City, Florida; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother Alan and two infant brothers David and James. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 8, 2003 at the St. James Lutheran Church in Allison, Iowa with Rev. Jerry Laehn and Associate in Ministry Peg Torrin officiating. Special music was provided by organist, Mrs. Cecil Radcliffe accompanying the duet of Michael and Carrie Stadmueller. Pallbearers were Brad Cooper, Andy Cooper, Marty Cooper, Allen Cooper, Brett Cooper, Andy Decker and Tim Johnson. Final resting place was in the Allison Cemetery with Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.


William "Bill" Gerhardt Nieman

William “Bill” Gerhardt Nieman, age 81, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the son of William H. and Augusta Obermoeller Nieman on November 28, 1921, on the family farm in Butler County, near Pleasant Valley, rural Clarksville, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the Pleasant Valley Church. He graduated from the Plainfield High School. Bill married Delores Lundt in 1943 and they were divorced in 1955. Two children were born to this union, Priscilla Nieman and Eugene Nieman. He married Roberta Schmadeke Benton in 1955. Bill adopted her children, David and Kenneth, in 1958. Bill and Roberta had two sons, Alan and Michael. Bill entered the U.S. Army on December 7, 1942, and was honorably discharged November 6, 1945. He was a Sgt. in combat with the 410th Regiment of the 103rd Division in France, Germany and Austria. He received the Bonze Star and Purple Heart. Bill and Roberta lived on the farm northeast of Clarksville until 1979 when they moved to their present home in Clarksville. Bill was a life-long member of the 1st United Church of Christ of Pleasant Valley which is on a corner of the farm. He was active in men’s fellowship and had been president of the Consistory. Bill enjoyed playing cards, golfing and traveling when he was able. Bill and Roberta lived on the farm northeast of Clarksville until 1979 when they moved to their present home in Clarksville. Bill was a life-long member of the First United Church of Christ - Pleasant Valley which is on a corner of the farm. He was active in men’s fellowship and had been president of the Consistory. Bill enjoyed playing cards, golfing and traveling when he was able. Bill died at his home Saturday, April 26, 2003, of Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Galen Nieman and Nathan in infancy; and one sister, Ila Henning. Bill is survived by his wife, Roberta of Clarksville, Iowa; one daughter, Priscilla Nieman, Waterloo, Iowa; five sons, Eugene (Sherri) Nieman, Nashua, Iowa; David Nieman, Sacramento, California; Kenneth Nieman, Apache Junction, Arizona; Alan Nieman, Clarksville, Iowa and Michael (Sandra) Nieman, Volga, South Dakota; grandsons, Adam, Derek, Travis, James, Matthew and granddaughter, Toni and great-grandchildren, Stefen, Kristen Ann Mary and Michael; two sisters, Almira McDonough, Grinnell, Iowa and Vinera Yover, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 1, 2003, at Pleasant Valley United Church of Christ, rural Clarksville, Iowa with Rev. Anne Sunday officiating. Organist Lois Roose accompanied congregational hymns “Sweet Hour of Prayer,” “In The Garden” and “Pass It On.” Casketbearers were Jeff Hempen, Dave Rottink, Darrell Kelm, Bob Kelm, Joe Johnson and Brent Gerloff. Honorary Casketbearers were Don Schrage, Gay Hempen and Frank Austin. Flower Committee was Juanita Backer and Wanda Weinberg. Interment was in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Clarksville, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Clarksville, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.


Shirley Jean Dawson

Shirley Jean Dawson, age 59, of Waterloo, Iowa and formerly of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the daughter of Cecil and Lulu Scott Lowe on November 21, 1943, in Ottumwa, Iowa. She received her education in the Clarksville Community Schools. Shirley married Raymond “Pete” Tuitjer on May 15, 1960 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union five children were born, Rodney, Brenda, Kathy, Pamela and Sherri. They were later divorced. Shirley married Richard Loving on June 6, 1988 in Fredricksburg, Virginia. He passed away one year later. On February 28, 1994, Shirley married Kenneth Dawson in Fredricksburg, Virginia. Shirley worked as an elderly home care giver for ten years and also was a horse trainer for six years. She was a member of the Community United Methodist Church in Clarksville. Shirley loved animals, especially horses. In her spare time, she liked making ceramics and painting animal portraits. Shirley died Saturday, April 26, 2003, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo, Iowa, of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two grandsons, Christopher and Dakota Soldwisch. Shirley is survived by her husband, Kenneth Dawson, Waterloo, Iowa; one son, Rodney Tuitjer, Clarksville, Iowa; four daughters, Brenda (Paul) Wedeking, Waverly, Iowa; Kathy (James) Thompson, Waverly, Iowa; Pamela Swanton and Jeff Ragsdale, Clarksville, Iowa and Sherri (Russ) Dellinger, Waterloo, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, Lacey, Brandon, Brittany, Autumn Soldwisch; Justin Tuitjer, Adam Jacobson, Logan Jamieson; Tasha, Tanya, Tristan Swanton; Stephanie, Amanda Tuitjer and Tyler Dellinger; and one great-grandchild, Faith Toulouse. Memorial services were held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at Community United Methodist Church, Clarksville, Iowa with Rev. Allen Poore-Christensen officiating. Organist Lola Clark accompanied Congregational Hymns “In The Garden,” “Old Rugged Cross,” and “Bridge Over Troubled Waters.” Inurnment at the Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Clarksville, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.


Edith M. Pines

Edith M. Pines, 88 of the Allison Health Care Center, formerly of Shell Rock, Iowa, died on Monday, May 5, 2003 at the Waverly Municipal Hospital of natural causes. Edith was born on May 19, 1914 in Bristow, Iowa, the daughter of Harry L. and Anna Elizabeth (Dailey) Kocher. She was baptized on March 23, 1930 at the First Baptist Church of New Hartford, Iowa and was confirmed on December 28, 1952 at St. John Lutheran Church, Clarksville, Iowa. She attended country school near Bristow and New Hartford. On February 20, 1934, she was united in marriage to Vernon L. Pines in Waterloo, Iowa. After their marriage the couple farmed in the Waterloo and New Hartford areas, prior to moving to a farm in Coster, where they resided for 60 years. Vernon died July 14, 2000. In February of 2001 she moved into the assisted living in Allison and in June of 2001 she moved to the Allison Health Care Center. She enjoyed her grandchildren, great grandchildren. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, plants, gardening and rock hunting. Edith is survived by her four children and their spouses, William(Bill) and Veda Pines of Finchford, Iowa; Elizabeth (Betty) and Luverne Becker of New Hartford, Iowa; Alice and Larry Schwab of Allison, Iowa; Paul and Linda Pines of Waverly, Iowa; one brother, Keith Kocher and his wife Maggie of Ducor, California; two sisters, Harriett Richards of Mount Vernon, Missouri; Bessie Remington and her husband Richard of San Carlos, California; eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, three step grandchildren, and five step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vernon in 2000, four brothers, Lester Kocher, Paul Kocher, two in infancy, one grandchild, one great grandchild and one step great grandchild. Funeral were held on Thursday, May 8, 2003 at 2:00 pm at St. John Lutheran Church, Clarksville with Pastor David R. Nelson officiating. Burial was in Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville.


Joseph "Joe" Dale Schneider

Joseph “Joe” Dale Schneider, 76, of Shell Rock, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa of natural causes. He was born on April 7, 1927, in Lamoni, Iowa, the son of Lodwick B. and Bertha L. (Stone) Schneider. Joe attended Shell Rock High School and served in the US Army from December 1945 to January 1947 during World War II. On August 17, 1947, he was united in marriage to Lavelle Henze at the Shell Rock United Methodist Church in Shell Rock. Joe worked at Shield & Bantam, later Koehring, for 39 years before retiring in December of 1988. He was a member of the Shell Rock Sportsman Club and the Avery-Slight American Legion, Post 393 of Shell Rock. He was also an active member at Heritage United Methodist Church, where he was baptized on December 27, 2000. Joe enjoyed both fishing and hunting and spending time with family and friends. Joe had an overwhelming love for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Lavelle of Shell Rock; two daughters, Vickie Loesche of Apple Valley, Minnesota and Nancy Hartman and her husband, Douglas of Waverly, Iowa; son, Dennis “Biz” Schneider of Waverly, Iowa; five grandchildren, Katie Hartman of Waverly, Iowa, Matthew Hartman of Waverly, Iowa, Chris Loesche of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Tim Loesche and his wife, Kelly of Manchester, Iowa and Jason Loesche of Minneapolis, Minnesota ; two great grandchildren, Tori & Olivia; and a sister, Thelma Kublank of Shell Rock, Iowa. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Francis, Eugene and Donald Schneider and his twin sister, Josephine Burman. Funeral services were held on Friday, May 2, 2003 at the Heritage United Methodist Church, Waverly, Iowa with Pastor Nate Frazee officiating. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock, Iowa with military rites conducted by the Avery-Slight American Legion, Post #393 of Shell Rock, Iowa. Memorials may be left to the family.

Linda Lee Schipp

Linda Lee Schipp, 63, of 920 N. Cherry Street, Shell Rock, Iowa, and formerly of Waverly, Iowa, died Monday morning, May 5, 2003, at Allen Memorial Hospital of natural causes. Linda was born on November 24, 1939, at St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital in Waverly, Iowa, the daughter of Roy Fred and Anna Pauline (Hirsch) Smith of Parkersburg, Iowa. She was baptized on March 31, 1940, and later confirmed her faith on March 29, 1953 at Immanuel Evangelical & Reform Church in Clarksville, Iowa. Linda moved with her family from Parkersburg to Clarksville when she was a small child. She went to the Clarksville Public School, graduating from the Clarksville High School in 1957. Following her schooling Linda worked at Hardy’s Cafe in Clarksville. Linda moved to Waverly, Iowa, where she worked at the Waverly Bowl Inn, Star Motel, and later kept house for Mrs. E. Oberheu & Marigene. In 1991, Linda had some health concerns that required her to quit working, and she then moved into the Waverly Homes. In 1996, Linda joined Faith & Warren United Methodist Church in Waverly, (now called Heritage United Methodist). Linda became a resident of the Shell Rock Helath Care Center in January of 1999. Linda was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church in Waverly. Linda enjoyed doing crosswords puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren. Linda is survived by one daughter and her husband, Sue and Tom Wardlow of Newton, Iowa, two granddaughters, Brandy Wardlow of Shell Rock, Iowa, Amber Wardlow of Waverly, and a step-grandson, Chris Wardlow of Cedar Falls, Iowa; a brother Roy Smith and his wife, Joyce of Clarksville, Iowa, a half-brother, Jim Smith and his wife, Mary of Mason City, Iowa; and a half-sister, Gloria Rhoades of Nevada. Linda was preceded in death by her parents; two half-brothers, Robert Smith and Glenn (Bud) Spears; and a half-sister, Pearl Miller. Celebration of Life Services were held on Thursday, May 8, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at Heritage United Methodist Church in Waverly, with Pastor Nathan N. Frazee officiating. Burial was in the Lynwood Cemetery in Clarksville. Memorials may be directed to the family or Heritage United Methodist Church.


Donald Mehmen

Donald Mehmen, age 76, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the son of Siebo and Bertha (Eckhoff) Mehmen on July 7, 1926, in rural Parkersburg, Iowa. He was baptized into the Christian faith at the First Congregational Church in Parkersburg. Don received his education from a country school near his home. On September 12, 1952, Don was united in marriage with Anna Mae Heeren at the Christian Reformed Church in Parkersburg. They made their home and farmed north of Parkersburg and Don also drove the Parkersburg school bus for many years. They retired from farming and moved to town in 1982. Over the past 20 years, Don has been working part-time with the funeral home and helping serve many families in the community. Don was an active and faithful member of the Christian Reformed Church in Parkersburg, where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and usher. He was a charter member of the Parkersburg Lions Club and was awarded Lion of the Year and the Melvin Jones Fellow Award. Don enjoyed woodworking, gardening and visiting with friends. He especially loved his grandchildren and enjoyed loaning them his cars whenever they needed wheels. Don died on Monday, May 5, 2003, from injuries sustained in an auto accident that occurred near Parkersburg. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister and brother in infancy. Don is survived by his wife, Anna Mae Mehmen of Parkersburg, Iowa; two sons, Ken (Nancy) Mehmen of Aplington, Iowa, Dave (Kris) Mehmen of West Des Moines, Iowa; two daughters, Sherry (Rod) Langfritz of Oskaloosa, Iowa and Debra (Pat) Prier of Aplington, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, Kamie (Cory) Shepard, Justin Mehmen, Ryan Meester, Ranae Giese, Carrie Langfritz, Sgt. Dave Mehmen, Steph Mehmen, Dan Mehmen, Alex and Brandon Scott, Stacy and Jason Meester and Nolan Prier. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 8, 2003 at the Christian Reformed Church, Parkersburg, Iowa with Rev. Frank Pott officiating. Organist Angie Meester accompanied vocalist Sherry Langfritz who sang “Sweet Sweet Spirit” and Tom Teeple who sang “Because He Lives.” Congregational Hymns were “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” and “God Be With You.” Honorary Casketbearers were the Staff at Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home. Casketbearers were Don’s grandchildren, Kamie Shepard, Justin Mehmen, Ryan Meester Cory Shepard, Carrie Langfritz, Sgt. Dave Mehmen Ranae Giese, Dan Mehmen, Alex Scott, Steph Mehmen, Stacy Meester, Jason Meester, Brandon Scott, Mike Ascher, and Nolan Prier. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Homes, Aplington, Clarksville and Parkersburg, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.


Arthur Emil Henriksen

Arthur Emil Henriksen, 82, of the Community Nursing Home in Clarksville and formerly of Janesville, Iowa, died Friday evening, May 9, 2003, at the Community Nursing Home in Clarksville, Iowa, from complication of cancer. Art was born on July 17, 1920, in Dike, Iowa, the son of Ludwig “Emil” and Elvine Sophia (Holm) Henriksen. Art attended country school near his home in Grundy County through the 8th grade. He then worked for area farmers in and around the Grundy County area. On October 15, 1942, he entered the US Navy during WWII. Following his discharge on December 3, 1945, he returned to Iowa and eventually went to work for the Rath Packing Company in Waterloo. On March 21, 1959, her was united in marriage to Donna Beth Howrey in Preston, Minnesota. In 1966 the couple moved to California where Art worked as a machinist for Cost Industrial Supplies, retiring in 1982. That same year the family returned to Iowa and made their home in Janesville. Art and Donna became residents of Community Nursing Home on November 12, 2001. Art was a member of Washington Chapel United Methodist Church in rural Cedar Falls. Art is survived by his wife, Donna of Community Nursing Home in Clarksville, Iowa; 2 sons and 6 daughters; Pam Ledoux and her husband, Ray of Waverly, Iowa, Larry Henriksen of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Patrica Avery of San Clemente, California, Reatha Pangburn and her husband, Michael of Eugene, Oregon, Joyce Henehan of Rosemond, California, Jim Henriksen and his wife, Vickie of Pequot Lakes, Minnesota, Judy Cheeseman and her husband, John of Marion, Iowa, Janet Evans and her husband, Hale of St. Charles, Minnesota, 21 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Michael Avery; one grandson, Dan Henehan; one brother, Harry Henriksen; and one sister, Verna Runkle. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 14, 2003 at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly, with Pastor Sue mMutchler officiating. Military rites were conducted by the American Legion Post #176 of Waverly.

Luverne Meester

Luverne Meester, age 64, of Dike, Iowa, was born the son of Herman J. and Jeanette Henze Meester on October 30, 1938, rural Holland, Iowa. He graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1957. Luverne married Judy Adelmund on November 20, 1959 at the Parkersburg Baptist Church. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in the Parkersburg, Grundy Center, Aplington and Dike areas. Luverne ran a portable feed mill for several years. He enjoyed fishing and watching television. He very much enjoyed going to NASCAR races and especially loved to spend time with his grandchildren. Luverne died Sunday, May 11, 2003 at his home, rural Dike, Iowa, where he had been under Hospice care for cancer. He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Meester. He is survived by his wife, Judy Meester, Dike, Iowa; two sons, Rick (Esther) Meester, White City, Kansas; Brian (Penny) Meester, Dike, Iowa; one daughter, Karla (Brian) Newton, State Center, Iowa; five grandchildren, Dustin, Christopher, and Amanda Meester, Mike and Eric Newton; one step granddaughter, Melody Drake and two step great-grandsons, Aaron and Russell Drake; his mother, Jeanette Meester, Grundy Center, Iowa; one brother, Les (Donna) Meester, Holland, Iowa and one sister, Linda (Henry) Dingel, Grundy Center, Iowa. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 14, at Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, Holland, Iowa with Rev. Russell Muilenburg officiating. Organist Alvina Walterman accompanied soloist Jeannie Conrads who sang “Safe In The Arms of Jesus” and “On The Wings of a Dove.” Congregational hymn was “How Great Thou Art”. Casketbearers were his nephews Dave Adelmund, Jason Meester, Cory Meester, Denny Roster, Paul Davis and Herman Dingel. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Jasper (J.J.) Kriens Jr.
 

Funeral services for Jasper (J.J.) Kriens Jr., age 76, were held Monday morning, May 19, 2003, from the Hand Funeral Home Chapel, Tama – Toledo. Bishop Jimmie Roberts of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints officiated. Burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery, Toledo, Iowa. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established. Jasper (J.J.) Kriens, age 76, of 711 Harding Street, Tama, Iowa, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City of a short illness. Jasper was born August 19, 1926 in Dumont, Iowa. He was the son of Jasper and Allie Folkerds Kriens Sr. He received his schooling in the Dumont school system. On July 24, 1946, at the Reformed Parsonage in Dumont, Iowa, Jasper was united into marriage to Miss Elizabeth Rae Truax of Bristow, Iowa. The couple started their life together in Dumont, Iowa, then moving to Geneva, Hampton, Bristow and Waterloo, where he worked for John Deere. Working for the Chicago & North Western railroad the couple made their home in several cities in Tama County moving to Tama in the fall of 1958. He worked in automobile sales for several years, working for Holdenried Ford in Souix City, Prusha Motors, Horaks, Hershal Weidner, Hartwigs, Austins Motors and Wes Finch in Grinnell. He also worked as a Pinkerton for Seed Corp. He retired in January of 2003. He was past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and a past member of Ridge Riders Saddle Club. He was a lover of horses and his favorite horse being Comanche. He also enjoyed working in the garden. J.J. will always be remembered as a very loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Jasper was an Elder of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Marshalltown, Iowa. Preceding him in death were his parents; six brothers and four sisters. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Kriens of Tama, Iowa; two daughters, Mary (Mrs. David) Brower of Tama, Iowa, Diana (Mrs. Wayne) Oitzman of Mesa, Arizona; three sons, David (and his wife, Brenda) Kriens of Des Moines, Iowa, Daniel (and his wife, Emily) Kriens of Fairbank, Iowa and Bruce (and his wife, Donna) Kriens of South Souix City, Nebraska; 20 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; a brother, Harm Kriens of LaPuente, California; four sisters, Ollie Collins of Dumont, Iowa, Margarie Hemmes of Hampton, Iowa, Mary Ann Burkett of Dumont, Iowa and Shirley Evans of Dumont, Iowa.

on Charles Gronberg, 45, of Baker, Florida, formerly of Dumont, Iowa, died Thursday, May 15, 2003 in the Crestview Florida Hospital. He was born July 10, 1958 in Waterloo, Iowa, son of Charles and Georgie Gronberg. He served 4 years in the Air Force, and was married in 1981 and moved to Florida. Jon was a master electrician who had his own contracting company. Survivors include: his wife; one son Andrew; one daughter Samantha, both at home; his father Charles; step mother Phyllis; a sister Chris Gronberg; one niece and nephew; two aunts, Helen and Shirley Walker, both of Cedar Falls and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother. Memorials may be sent to Box #175, Dumont, IA 50625. A fund has been established to gift the new library. An informal memorial service was held in the Dumont New Hope UMC. Jon’s ashes were scattered over Choctawhatchae Bay, between Fort Walton Beach and Destin Island.
