04/07/03 Larry Lee DeVries Funeral services for Larry Lee DeVries were held Wednesday, March 26, 2003 at West Fork United Methodist Church, 2200 Tulip Ave., Sheffield with Rev. Julie Poore-Christensen presiding. Burial was in the Dumont Cemetery. Larry Lee DeVries was born July 2, 1938 in Butler County a son of John J. and Grace Ida (Viet) DeVries. He attended Sheffield schools. He was engaged in farming with his father near Sheffield. On November 8, 1958 Larry was united in marriage with Patricia Kay Price. Larry retired from full time farming in 1983 and was semi retired. He kept busy with his passion, raising registered Red-Angus Cattle and his International tractors. He worked as a farm hand for Jay and Leah Hamilton. Larry loved being with his family and grandchildren, going to sales and taking Sunday afternoon drives around the section looking at deer and wildlife. Larry died Saturday, March 22, 2003 at his farm in rural Hampton. He was 64 years old. Surviving is his wife; Patricia of Hampton; children: Donna (Bryan) Rowson, Bristow; LeeAnn (Todd) Doty, Clarksville; Ben (Brenda) DeVries,Hampton; 5 grandchildren: Sarah and Shelby Rowson, Kayla and Brandon Doty and Reid DeVries; his mother: Grace DeVries, Dumont; 4 sisters: Hilda Kriemeyer, Matilda Christenson & Carla (Dan) McVicker all of Bevier, MO; Marion (Donovan) Worley, Aredale; brother: Ken (Bonnie) DeVries, Hampton. Larry is preceded in death by his father: John J. DeVries and son: Donny Lee DeVries. 04/07/03 Warren G. "Pete" Stanbrough Memorial Services for Warren G. “Pete” Stanbrough, 78, Bristow, were held Saturday, March 29, 2003, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel in Greene with Rev. Msgr. Walter Brunkan officiating. Inurnment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date. There will be no visitation. Warren Gene Stanbrough was born April 6, 1924, in Ingham Township, Franklin County, a son of Orla and Bessie (Craig) Stanbrough, and died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at his home in Bristow. He received his education in the rural Franklin County Schools and attended the Public School at Hansell. He was united in marriage to Betty Ann Brunner on September 6, 1946, at the Catholic Rectory in Hampton. To this union were born three sons. Pete operated Stanbrough Salvage in Bristow for twenty years and worked for Butler Bins at Hampton for eight years. He was also gravedigger at Oak Hill Cemetery in Bristow. Following his retirement in 1986 he enjoyed working in the garden. His pastimes include fishing, playing cards and going to garage sales. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 56 years, Betty of Bristow; three sons: Jim Stanbrough of Reinbeck, Merlyn Stanbrough of Allison, and Joey (Mary Lou) Stanbrough of Aredale; ten grandchildren: Ted, Gene, Zeb, Bryan, Beth (Nick), Danny, Rueben (Sally), Michael, Kathy, and Jimmy; three great-grandchildren: Kelsy, Kyle, and Paige; three sisters: Avis Reed of Charles City, Elma “Toddie” Poplin of Dumont, Pauline (Wes) Parks of Sheffield; four brothers: Cecil (Irene) Stanbrough of Greene, Earl (Carolyn) Stanbrough of Hawkeye, Donald (Gertie) Stanbrough of West Union, Dean (Marcia) Stanbrough of Patagonia, AZ. 04/07/03 Frank Melvin Wilkens, age 72, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the
son of Willie and Tisha Timmer Wilkens on April 4, 1930, near
Parkersburg, Iowa. He received his education in a rural school near
his home. Frank was united in marriage to Tena Endelman on December
17, 1950, at St. James Lutheran Church in Allison, Iowa. They made
their home near Clarksville, Iowa, later moved near Tripoli, Iowa
and then to the home place near Parkersburg. Frank worked for the
county and, then farmed most of his life. He retired from farming in
1985. He liked to work on the farm and fix things, such as working
on tractors, machinery and cars. He loved being outdoors and
especially enjoying nature. Frank died on Tuesday, March 25, 2003,
at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa from natural
causes. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Tena on
January 22, 2000, and two brothers, Bill and Larry Wilkens. Frank is
survived by one son, Gary Wilkens and his wife, Sandy of Nashua,
Iowa; three grandchildren, Stacy (Amber) Wilkens; Christie (Kevin)
Schuchhardt and Wendie Wilkens; eight great-grandchildren and two
step great-grandchilden; one brother, Alvin (Mildred) Wilkens of
Stout, Iowa; two sisters, Frances (Clarence) Frieling of
Parkersburg, Iowa and Karen (Tom) Stone of Waterloo, Iowa. Family
Graveside Services will be held at the Oak Hill Cemetery in
Parkersburg.
Roger Harlan Busma Roger Harlan Busma,
60, of Granger, Iowa, passed away March 27, 2003 at the
Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born October
11, 1942 in Bristow, Iowa to Harmon and Esther (Garrels)
Busma. Roger graduated from Dumont High School in 1961
and then attended Ellsworth College in Iowa Falls, Iowa.
After college Roger helped his father with the portable
feed grinding. Roger married Sandra Stewert on December
7, 1979 in Hampton, Iowa. He was employed with Farmers
Elevator in Dumont and the Elevator in Alexander. He
worked for Murphy’s Trucking for 15 years until they
closed. He then went to work for Volovo’s Truck Company
in Des Moines and had been working at Majestics in
Altoona for 14 years. Roger loved work on semi-tractors,
loved the outdoors by fishing and gardening. He enjoyed
his family and grandchildren, baby-sitting whenever he
could. His grandchildren all called him “papa”. He is
survived by his wife: Sandra Busma of Granger; three
daughters: Becky & husband, Jon Ringler of Boone, Shelly
& husband Mike McConnell of Granger, and Vicki Busma of
Hampton; five sons: James Busma of Granger, Steven Busma
of Granger, Keith Busma of Hampton, Scott Busma of
Hampton, and Dan Busma of Hampton; adopted daughter
Laurie & husband Kevin Bancroft of Perry and adopted son
Billy Stewert of Perry; mother Esther Busma of Dumont;
sister Kay Busma of Hampton; ten grandchildren, three
step-grandchildren, and seven adopted grandchildren. He
was preceded in death by his father and one brother,
Keith. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m.,
Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at the Dumont Reformed Church
with Rev. Bob Scholten officiating. Special music was
provided by organist, Jim Siebrands accompanying the
soloist, Mark Gerdes. Pallbearers were Troy Busma, Ben
Feick, Trent Busma, Larry Feick, Jason Godfrey and
Michael Garrels. Honorary pallbearers were Deb Feick,
Joe Huny, Wayne Busma, Brad Feick, Jim Harding and Brian
Garrels. Final resting place was in the Dumont Cemetery
with Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in charge of
arrangements.
04/07/03 Louis R. DeBower, 78, of Allison, Iowa passed away March 27, 2003
at the Allison Care Center, Allison, Iowa. Louis was born on August
10, 1924, in Butler County, Iowa to Otto and Rosa (Pagels) DeBower.
Louis attended schools in rural Butler County. He married Evelyn
Klenke on January 29, 1949, in Waverly, Iowa. He worked as a farmer
and served in the U.S. Navy for two years during WWII. Louis was a
member of St. James Lutheran Church in Allison, Iowa. He was also a
member of the Clarksville AMVETS Post 30. He was also a Trustee for
Jackson Township, a 4-H leader, member of the Butler Center Cemetery
Board, and involved in many other organizations. He is survived by
his wife, Evelyn DeBower of Allison, Iowa; two sons: Larry & wife,
Sue Ann DeBower of Los Altos, California and Gary & wife, Julie
DeBower of Charles City, Iowa; sisters: Ruth Johnson of Allison,
Iowa and Irma & husband, Walter Muhle of Lafayette, Colorado;
brother: Albert & wife, Donna DeBower of Allison, Iowa; three
grandchildren: Jason DeBower, Danielle DeBower, and Justin DeBower.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother,
Clifton. Funeral services were held at St. James Lutheran Church in
Allison, Iowa at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 1, 2003 with Rev. Jerry
Laehn and Associate in Ministry Peg Torrin officiating. Special
music was provided by organist, Mrs. Cecil Radcliffe accompanying
the soloist, Dean Uhlenhopp. The flower committee was Lois McDowell
and Eileen Wust. Military services were by Clarksville AMVETS Post
30 and Taps sounded by Garf Stych. Pallbearers were Jan Franken,
Paul Muhle, Dean Fink, Will DeBower, Clifton Johnson and Dale
VanLegen. Honorary pallbearers were Heyo Kampman, Clarence Wubbena
and Harry Johnson. Final resting place was in the Butler Center
Cemetery, rural Allison, Iowa. Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home was in

04/07/03 Henry S. Henrichs, 90, of Allison, Iowa, passed away March 27,
2003, at the Allison Care Center, Allison, Iowa. Henry was born on
April 11, 1912, in Butler County, Iowa, to Harm and Jennie Henrichs.
He attended schools in rural Butler County. Henry was married on
March 2, 1938, to Delma DeBower at St. James Lutheran Church by Rev.
W. C. Nassen. After they were married, Henry and Delma moved to a
farm in Jefferson Township, where they farmed until retirement in
1978. After they retired, they moved to Allison. Henry was baptized
shortly after birth and later confirmed at Ebenezer Lutheran Church
on March 28, 1926, by Pastor S. M. Siefkes. He later became a member
of St. James Lutheran Church in Allison, Iowa. Henry was an active
member of St. James serving on the St. James Church Council and
Parsonage Building Committee. He was a long time member of the
Butler Center Cemetery Board and Care Restoration and Initiator of
Perpetual Car Fund. He enjoyed nature, his occupation of farming,
the church, family and friends. Henry is survived by his wife: Delma
Henrichs of Allison, Iowa; sons: Harley & wife, Kathryn Henrichs of
Shell Rock, Iowa, and Don Henrichs of Allison, Iowa; five
grandchildren: Steve & wife, Julie Henrichs of Hastings, Minnesota,
Denise Henrichs of Prairie City, Iowa, Kimberly Henrichs of Allison,
Iowa, Kyle Henrichs of Allison, Iowa, and Mark Henrichs of Allison,
Iowa; two great-grandchildren: Erin & Elizabeth Henrichs of
Hastings, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents; an
infant son, Roger Dean; sister, Anna Janssen; and his
daughter-in-law: Nancy Henrichs. Funeral services were held at 10:30
a.m., Monday, March 31, 2003 at St. James Lutheran Church, Allison
with Rev. Jerry Laehn officiating. The flower committee was Lois
McDowell and Eileen Wust. Special music was provided by organist,
Robin Morton accompanying the congregational singing. Pallbearers
were Bob Wubbena, Vern Poppen, Alfred Johnson, Brent Janssen, Steve
Henrichs and Kyle Henrichs. Final resting place was in the Butler

04/12/03 Mary Lee Kennedy, age 53, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the
daughter of Elvin “Red” and Charlene Werner Kennedy on June 14, 1949
in Waverly, Iowa. She graduated from Clarksville High School in 1967
and from Pitzes School of Beauty in Waterloo, Iowa in 1968. Mary was
a hairdresser for over 20 years, ten years of this time in Waverly.
She worked as a clerk at Buy Low in Clarksville for six years. Mary
retired in 1997 when she became disabled. Mary was a member of
Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville. She was the first
woman City Councilman in Clarksville and had served on the
Clarksville Public Library Board. She loved to bake and enjoyed
crocheting. Mary was very outgoing and had many friends. Mary died
April 1, 2003, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in
Waterloo, Iowa, of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her
father in 1977 and her mother in 1988. Mary is survived by two
sisters, Paula (Joe) Miller and Alana (Larry) Becker, all of
Clarksville, Iowa; two brothers, Alan Kennedy of Ames, Iowa and
Brian Kennedy of St. Paul, Minnesota; one niece, four nephews and
several great nieces and nephews. Memorial services for Mary were
held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 5, 2003 at Immanuel United
Church of Christ in Clarksville with Rev. David Walters and Rev.
Rueben Topp officiating. Organist Sharon Leerhoff accompanied
Congregational Hymns “Precious Memories”, “In The Garden”, and “Just
As I Am.” Her sister, Paula Miller played “Black Hawk Waltz” and
“Mockingbird Hill.” They were special songs that Mary always wanted
played at family gatherings and requested that Paula play them at
her funeral.
Ashton Lieuwen Easton
Ashton Lieuwen Easton, 3 months and 4 days old, of Prescott,
Wisconsin, died on April 4, 2003, at his home in Prescott of
natural causes. On January 1, 2003, in Min-neapolis,
Minnesota, Ashton was born the son of Richard and Deidre (Melendy)
Easton. In his short life, he enjoyed going to the zoo and
watching the Lion King. He loved to be held and gave a big
smile to whoever was holding him. Survivors include his
parents Richard and Deidre Easton of Prescott, Wisconsin; a
brother Tristan Easton at home; maternal grandfather Michael
Melendy of Hampton, Iowa; maternal grandmother Ramona
Melendy of Dumont, Iowa; paternal grandparents Charles and
Mavis Easton of Cam, England; maternal great grandparents
John and Hilda Stock of Dumont, Iowa; two aunts Bethany
Melendy of Dumont, Iowa and Tracey Phillips of Bournemonth,
England. Ashton was preceded in death by his paternal great
grandparents. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April
9, 2003 at the New Hope United Methodist Church in Dumont
with Rev. Michael Shaffer officiating. Burial was in the
Dumont Cemetery with Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in charge
of arrangements.
04/12/03 John Louis Zubak, age 85, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the son
of Louis and Anna Mataic Zubak on July 13, 1917, in Waterloo, Iowa.
He received his education at St. Mary’s School in Waterloo. John was
united in marriage with Winifred E. Cook on January 24, 1941, in
Charles City, Iowa. He worked at John Deere Tractor Factory in
Waterloo, as a machinist, for 14 years. In 1952 he became a partner
and co-owner of Brown Lumber Company in Raymond, Iowa, where he
worked until 1965. They moved to Fairbank, Iowa and purchased
Fairbank Lumber. He owned and operated the business until his
retirement in August of 1977. Following his retirement they moved to
Parkersburg. John was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in
Parkersburg. He had served on the Fairbank City Council for several
years. John very much enjoyed running the lumber yards and he liked
to golf and collect coins. John died at Allen Memorial Hospital,
Waterloo, Iowa, on Tuesday, April 1, 2003, of natural causes. He was
preceded in death by his wife, Winifred on December 24, 1993; his
parents; one infant sister, Frances Zubak; one sister, Mary Zubak;
and two brothers, Frank and Nick Zubak. He is survived by one son,
John (Cathy) Zubak, Jr. of Parkersburg, Iowa; one daughter, Deb
(Ray) Brungard of Parkersburg, Iowa; four grandchildren, Christopher
(Jodi) Zubak, Amy (Matt) Rechkemmer, Neil (Staci) Brungard, Andrea
Brungard and her fiancé Nick Holm; six great grandchildren, Max and
Maggie Rechkemmer, Corbin, Lakin, Grady and Ainsley Brungard; two
sisters, Rose Zubak of Waterloo, Iowa and Helen (Jim) Kane of
Waterloo, Iowa. Funeral Services were at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April
4, 2003, at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Parkersburg, Iowa.
Officiating the services was Fr. Dennis Quint. The Organist, Marilyn
Gerholdt accompianted Tom Teeple singing “How Great Thou Art” and
the Congregational Hymns were “On Eagles Wings,” “Here I Am, Lord,”
“Holy God We Praise Thy Name” & “Prayer of St. Frances.” The Lector
was Tom Lawler, the Gift Bearers were Rose Zubak and Samantha Zubak
and the Eucharistic Minister was Martha Andersen. The Casketbearers
were Christopher Zubak, Neil Brungard, Nick Holm, Matt Rechkemmer,
John Hofstadter and Nick Zubak, Jr. Interment was at St. Patrick
Catholic Cemetery in Parkersburg, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home
in Parkersburg were in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be
directed to the family or to Parkersburg Dollars for Scholars.
04/12/03 Elizabeth “Betty” L. Epley, 85, of Shell Rock, Iowa passed
away on Thursday, April 3, 2003 at the Shell Rock Health Care
Center in Shell Rock of natural causes. Betty was born on May 7,
1917, the daughter of Andrew and Ateina (Leibrand) Trygg in
McGregor, Iowa. She attended Iowa State Teachers College for two
years. Following her education, she taught country school in
Bremer County and also taught school in Central City . On May
30, 1939, she united in marriage to Rufus W. Epley in Cedar
Falls, Iowa. The couple made their home in the Shell Rock area,
where they farmed for many years. She was a member of the Shell
Rock United Methodist Church, Shell Rock Book Review Club, Know
Your Neighbor Club, Culture Club and the Cedar Valley Violet
Club. Betty enjoyed flower gardening, watching birds, spending
time with her family and friends and baking cookies mwith her
grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors are her four
children and their spouses, Melvin and Jacqueline Epley of
Jacksonville, Florida, Roger and Linda Epley of Neenah,
Wisconsin, David and Marion Epley of Waverly, Iowa and Susan and
David Nicholson of Danville, Illinois; 15 grandchildren and 10
great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents;
her husband, Rufus on January 5, 1989, a son John in infancy;
brothers and sisters, Amelia, Elmer, Marie, Clifford, Oliver and
Raymond. Funeral Services were held on Monday, April 7 at the
Shell Rock United Methodist Church in Shell Rock with Pastor
Realff Ottesen officiating. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery
in Shell Rock, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Riverside
Cemetery Association, Shell Rock United Methodist Church or to
the family.

Burial Services for Eldridge W. Roark will be held at the
St. Johns Lutheran Church (Vilmar) cemetery on Saturday,
April 26 at 3:00 p.m., with reception in the church hall
after the service for friends of the family. Dr. Roark, who
died February 25 in Naples, Fl, is survived by his wife,
Mary Heuer Roark, formerly of Bristow, IA, and children Lisa
and Michael.
04/17/03 Mary C. Ufford, 94, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away
April 6, 2003 at the Dumont Care Center in Dumont. Mary
was born March 29, 1909 in Swea City, Iowa to Daniel and
Mary (Bell) Frisby. Mary graduated from Dumont High
School and then attended Iowa State Teachers College in
Cedar Falls, Iowa. She was married to Emmet H. Ufford on
March 15, 1933 in Aredale, Iowa. Mary was a homemaker
and a farm wife. Mary was a member of the Aredale United
Methodist Church in Aredale, Iowa. She belonged to the
Mission’s Club and the Homemaker’s Study Club. Mary
enjoyed spending time with her family. Mary is survived
by three sons: David and wife, Clellan Ufford of Benton,
Arkansas, Darwin and wife Irmi Ufford of Torrance,
California and Dean and wife Beulah Ufford of Aredale,
Iowa; twelve grandchildren and sixteen great
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents,
husband, son (Donald), and grandson (Gary). Funeral
services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 11, 2003
at the Aredale United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael
Shaffer officiating. Special music was provided by
organist, Mrs. Beryl Reed accompanying the
congregational singing. Ushers were Leland Wickwire and
Darwin Noelting. Pallbearers were Wayne Ufford, Cindy
Hogan, Laura Aselage, Dan Ufford, Benjamin Ufford and
Bradley Ufford. Honorary pallbearers were Isaac Ufford,
Cheryl Petz, Kathy Aldrich, Heather Auge, Cate Ufford
and Dawn Hines. Final resting place was in the Dumont
Cemetery, Dumont Iowa with Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home
in charge of arrangements.
Ann Truitt Memorial services were
held for Ann Truitt, 78, at Kingdom Hall,
Charles City, on Saturday, April 12. Mrs.
Truitt died Monday, April 7. She was the
wife of Dr. J. T. Truitt of Greene.

Watkins, 72, were held Monday, April 14
at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene
with Pastor Gary Hatcher offciating.
Inurnment was in the Riverside Cemetery
in Charles City with military honors
conducted by the Veterans of Foreign
Wars of Charles City. Robert Eugene
Watkins was born October 8, 1930 in
Charles City a son of Claude Darius and
Jennie Levine (Nelson) Watkins and died
Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at the Allison
Care Center in Allison. He received his
education in the Charles City Public
Schools and as a young man worked for
Sherman Nursery and Moltz Construction
both in Charles City. He later worked
for Oliver Corp. until he entered the
United States Marine Corp on November 7,
1951. Following his honorable discharge
on November 6, 1953 he returned to
Charles City where he worked for the
Monaghan Turkey Ranch. On April 3, 1955
he was united in marriage to Betty A.
Nelson in Austin, MN. They moved to
Minneapolis where he was employed as a
Cooper (Barrel Maker) at the Grief
Brothers Cooperage Co until 1960. The
following year he became employed by the
Greene Rendering Co. where he remained
until the business closed in 1982. Bob
and his family moved to Greene to their
present home in 1969. He was baptized a
member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in
Greene on May 11, 1969. Bob was a
faithful member and served as usher for
many years. He was a member of the
American Legion and the Veterans of
Foreign Wars and was a volunteer for the
Hawkeye Area Meals on Wheels. Those
thankful for having shared Bob’s life
include his loving wife of 48 years

04/28/03 Velma L. Joens, 99, of
the Western Home Communities
and formerly of Alameda
Street in Cedar Falls, died
at the Western Home’s Martin
Health Center on Tuesday,
April 15, 2003 of natural
causes. She was born July
25, 1903 in Butler County,
the daughter of Jerry and
Grace Tanner Martin. She
married Walter W. Joens on
August 10, 1938 at the
Little Brown Church in
Nashua. He died on February
25, 1997. She was a graduate

Bluffs. Survivors include a
brother Beryl Martin of
Clarksville and several
nieces and nephews. She was
preceded in death by her
parents; her husband; a
sister, Nina Miner; and a
brother, Glen Martin.
04/28/03 Funeral services for Jean E. Springer of 112
South Main Street, Greene, were held Friday, April
18, at St. Mary’s Catholic Churchin Greene with Rev.
Msgr. Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial was in St.
Mary’s Cemetery in Greene with Reid’s Funeral Chapel
of Greene in charge of arrangements. Jean Ellen
Springier was born April 21, 1920, in rural Dayton
Township, Butler County, a daughter of Leo and Mabel
Coral (Deardoff) Springer and died Wednesday, April
16, 2003, at the Allison Care Center. She received
her education at the Sacred Heart Academy at Greene.
Jean worked for the B&W Fine Foods in Greene and
later for the Butler County Care Facility at Allison
and the Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City. She
was last employed at the Floyd County Memorial
Hospital until her retirement in 1989. She was a
member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a member of
the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and St.
Joseph Circle. She was preceded in death by her
father in 1927, her mother in 1966, two siblings in
infancy, and her brother Jeither in 1945, and his
wife Jaunita in 1939. Those planning an expression

04/28/03 Darrel Francis (Brownie) Brown, 81, of
Dumont, Iowa, passed away April 12, 2003 at the
North Iowa Mercy Health Center East Campus in
Mason City, Iowa. Darrel was born February 10,
1922 in Bristow, Iowa, to Frank and Lelah Mae
(Shreve) Brown. He attended schools in Butler
County, Pittsford #1. Darrel was married to
Betty Jean Voss on July 21, 1959 in Nashua,
Iowa. He worked as a farm laborer for Art
Rodenbeck and then drove truck for Van Dyke
Limestone. Later he owned his own truck and
worked for Greene Limestone and Allied
Construction. Darrel attended both the Bristow
and Aredale United Methodist Churches. He was a
50 year member of AmVets Post 106 in Bristow. He
served his country in WWII in the Army. Darrell
enjoyed fishing, bowling and races, especially
watching his grandsons race go-carts. He is
survived by his wife Betty Brown of Dumont; son
Scott Brown of Merservey; grandsons Dustin and
Logan Brown; brother-in-law Robert and wife
Billie Voss of Peoria, Illinois; brother-in-law
Ralph & wife Karen Voss of Cedar Rapids;
sister-in-law Beverly & husband John Rusinack of
Hampton; brother-in-law Dave and wife Pam
Rusinack of Sheffield; nieces and nephews:
Susan, Brian and Hannah Buchanan, Sam, Tina,
Hunter and Allison Voss, Tony, Shelly, Seth and
Abbi Hite, Delinda, Tori and Andrea Carson,
Bobby and Patty Miller, Trent and Terry Miller,
Eric and April Schmiesing, Carter, Paige and
Parker Seidel, John, Lisa, Landon, Mikkie Jo and
Natalee Morris, Hudson and Nixson Morris, Nicki
and Nathan Rusinack. He is preceded in death by
his parents, one sister Gladys, one brother
Glenn, and a sister-in-law Anita. Funeral
services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April
15, 2003 at the Aredale United Methodist Church
with Rev. Michael Shaffer officiating. Special
music was provided by organist, Mrs. Cecil
Radcliffe accompanying the congregational
singing. Ushers were Leland Wickwire and Darwin
Noelting. Pallbearers were Bob Aukes, Bill
Beadle, Keith Ubben, Brad Beadle, Russell Ubben
and Jim Wubbena. Honorary pallbearer was Leonard
Wiegmann. Final resting place was in the Dumont
Cemetery with Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in
