Thelma M. Arnold

Thelma M. Arnold, 86, died on Friday, June 3, 2005, at the Concord Care Center in Garner.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 8, at the Klemme United
Methodist Church, with Rev. Paddy Druhl officiating.
Interment was in the Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme.
Thelma Maxine, was
born on July 28, 1918 in Millston, Wisconsin, to John Arthur and
Lois Ann (Tabb) Chambers. In 1922 the family moved to
Delta, Utah. In 1925 they moved to Corwith, where
Thelma grew up in a close-knit extended family of
aunts, uncles and cousins. Thelma was valedictorian of
the Corwith High School class of 1936, and in 1940 she
graduated from Iowa State College, majoring in Home
Economics. She taught home economics for two years in
Lamont and then in Britt, until she married.
She married Roy
Elmer Arnold on June 18, 1946, and Thelma became a
full time wife and mother. Her family was very
important to her, and many activities centered around
it, baking special birthday cakes and helping with
Cub Scout activities and 4-H demonstrations. She
enjoyed gardening and canning. She was interested in
genealogy, particularly of the Tabb and Chambers
families.
She was a 4-H
Club Leader in Avery Township and a judge in all
nearby counties at fair time. She was a member (often
an officer) of the United Methodist Women, American
Legion Auxiliary, Farm Bureau Women, Hancock County
Historical Society, Riverside Club, Eastern Star,
Potpourri, Garden Club and Grandmothers Club.
On May 31 she
suffered a stroke from which she never recovered.
Preceding her in
death were her parents; brother, Wayne Chambers; and
sister-in-law, Nancy Chambers.
Survivors include
her husband; sons, William (Lanette) Arnold and Lance
(Christine "Tish") Arnold; daughter, Arlys Arnold
(Carol Lilygren) all of Klemme; son, Don (Gail) Arnold
of Taos, New Mexico; grandchildren, Monica (Jason) Trca,
Charlie, Michelle Trca, Tami Trca, Travis (Trisha)
Trca, Bradi Arnold, Kelly Arnold and Robert Arnold;
great-grandchildren, Genero, Preston and Cameron
Charlie, Cali and Anthony Capaldo, and Kennedy Trca;
brothers-in-law, Wilbur Arnold and Bruce Arnold,
sister-in-law, Evelyn Arnold; eight nieces and nephews;
and cousin, Novella Bredbenner.

Frances Pannhoff

Frances "Frannie" Pannhoff, 70, most recently a resident of the Concord
Care Center in Garner and formerly a resident of
Klemme and Kanawha, died on Friday, June 3, 2005, at the Muse
Norris Hospice in Mason City.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June
7, at the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ in
Klemme, with Rev. Donna Buckman officiating. Burial was
in the Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme.
Frances Delores,
was born on November 2, 1934 in Rockford, the daughter of
Charlie and Helen (Hutchison) Otto. She graduated from
the
Rockford High School in 1953. She married Kenneth D. Pannhoff on January 13, 1956, at the Little Brown
Church near Nashua.
They lived in
Klemme from 1962 to 1982, then at Kanawha, until Frannie moved to the Concord Care Center in 2001.
Kenny also resides at the care center.
Frances was a
life long home maker. Family fishing excursions and get-togethers were some of her favorite past times.
Frannie loved to work jig saw puzzles and welcomed any
opportunity for a game of cards, especially Canasta
and Uno. She did embroidery and needle point work.
She was active in
both her Klemme and Kanawha church families. She
enjoyed Bible studies and in later years, the church
services at the care center. She had been a volunteer
at the Concord Care Center prior to living there.
She was preceded
in death by her parents; infant son, Larry; daughter,
Jean; brothers-in-law, Francis Constein, Dean Pannhoff
and Lyle Pannhoff; and sister-in-law, Arlene (Pannhoff)
Lovik.
Survivors include
her husband; sons, Jim of Forest City, Al (Connie) of Swea City and Doug (Tracie) of Klemme; daughters, Patty
and special friend, Dan Smith of Klemme and Sharon
(Donny) Reysack of Klemme; grandchildren, Teri Jo Cohrs
of Klemme, Andy Cohrs of Garner, Tanya Harley of
Klemme, Jeremy Pannhoff of Mason City, Michael
Pannhoff, Nathan Pannhoff, Ashley Pannhoff, Telsie and
Brittney all of Klemme and Serena and Collin Pannhoff
of Swea City; great-grandchildren, Harli and Brooklyn,
McKenna and Morgan, Damarion, MacKenzy, and Treveina;
sister, Joyce Constein of Green; and half-sisters, Nancy
Holme of Mason City and Janice Fisher of Waterloo.

Fern
M. Linahon

Fern
M. Linahon, 79, a long time resident of Klemme, most
recently a resident of the Concord Care Center in Garner,
died on Friday, June 3, 2005, at the Muse Norris Hospice in Mason

Fern Marjorie, the
daughter of Edward and Christine (Ausborn) Gifford,
was born on October 28, 1925, on a farm near Klemme. She
attended various country schools and the Ventura High
School. Fern married
William Dale Linahon in November 1946.
Fern enjoyed
gardening, horses and dogs. She was well known for her
wedding cakes and other cooking skills. She also
enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and creating her own
designs. She was active in
the VFW Auxiliary and was a Cub Scout den mother.
She had resided at
the Concord Care Center since August 2002.
She was preceded
in death by her parents.
Survivors include
her
son, Jerry (Melba) Linahon of Laurel, Montana; daughter,
Marlene (Jack) Smith of Klemme; grandchildren, Kristal
Hodges of Redmond, Oregon, Nicole Eastlick of Wichita, Kansas,
Matthew Linahon of Forest City, Michelle Rodriguez of
Redmond, Christina Smith and Teri Smith of Klemme; and
two great-grandchildren.

David G. Kennedy

David
George Kennedy, 80, of Belmond, died on Saturday, January 29, 2005, at
the Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.
A memorial
service will be held on Saturday, June 11, at 11:00
a.m., at the Belmond United Methodist Church, with
Pastor Mike Druhl officiating. There will be no
visitation, the body has been cremated.

David was
preceded in death by his parents; his first wife,
Donna; and his second wife, Sharon in 2003.

Rev. Carol J. Kaiser

Rev. Carol Jane Kaiser, 57, died on Saturday, June 4, 2005, at the Mercy Hospice in
Johnston.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 7, at the
First Church of The Open Bible in Des Moines.
Carol was born on
November 12, 1947 in Marshall, Minnesota to Joseph H.
and Mona Jean (Caron) Kaiser. She earned a bachelor of
nursing degree, bachelor of liberal arts degree, and a
masters degree from an Assembly of God Seminary. She
was an ordained pastor and worked as a registered
nurse at Mercy Hospital for 29 years.
She was preceded
in death by her mother.
Survivors include
father, Joseph Kaiser of Belmond; brothers, Don (Pat)
Kaiser of Mankato, Minnesota and Rev. Dick (Beth)
Kaiser of Des Moines; and sisters, Mary Ann (Larry) Lohse of Belmond and Joyce Davis (J. R. Clark) of
Belmond.

Mary Lou Terhark
June 14, 2005
Mary Lou Terhark, 75, of Belmond, died on Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at the Mercy Medical
Center in Mason City.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 10, at
the St. John Lutheran Church in Belmond, with Pastor
Lowell Halvorson officiating. Interment was in the
Belmond Cemetery.
Casket bearers were
Dennis Weide, Leroy Goeman, Doug Mennenga, Todd Smith,
Harlan Tulp and George Anderson.
Mary Lou, the
daughter of John and Mabel Johnson Finch, was born on
February 6, 1930 at Nevada. She was baptized at the
Bethany Lutheran Church in Kelley and attended the Milford
Consolidated School until 1943 when the family moved
to Alden. In 1944 the family moved to Crystal Lake
where she attended school until her junior year.
On June 6, 1949,
she married Herman Terhark at the Immanuel Lutheran
Church in Forest City. The couple made their home in
Belmond. Herman died in 1984.
Mary Lou spent
many hours taking care of the elderly in their homes.
She enjoyed gardening, camping and fishing. Mary Lou
was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church and the
American Legion Auxiliary.
She was preceded
in death by her parents; husband; infant sister, Eva
Jean Finch; and sister-in-law, Marybel Finch.
Mary Lou is
survived by her daughter, Phyllis (Larry) Robbins of
Goodell; sons, Johnny (Marilyn) Terhark of
Independence and Darrel Terhark of North Carolina;
grandchildren, Duncan (Jodi) Terhark, Boni (Joe)
Logue, Lacy Terhark and Sherie Terhark; sister, Ann
Finch of Titonka; brothers, Melvin (Della) Finch of
Litchfield, Minnesota and Johnny Finch, Jr. of Britt;
aunt, Florence Finch of Kelly; and special friend,
Fred Weide of Meservey.

Roy T. Johnson
June 14, 2005
Roy T. Johnson, 84, of Dows, died on Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at the Wright Medical
Center in Clarion.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 10, at
the Vernon Lutheran Church in rural Dows, with Pastor
Paul Thompson and Stan Watne officiating. Burial was
in the Vernon Lutheran Cemetery.
Roy, the son of
Ted and Hazel Greiner Johnson, was born on March 9, 1921
in rural Williams. He joined the U.S. Air Force on
June 6, 1941 and spent three and one half years in the
southern Pacific around New Caledonia and Guadalcanal.
He then was sent to a base at San Antonio, Texas, where
he was discharged in 1945.
On November 1,
1945 Roy married Annabel Patterson in San Antonio.
Roy owned and
operated a custom corn shelling and trucking business
for forty years. He then started a construction
business with cats, a backhoe and dump trucks. Roy
loved working around people and said he was never
going to retire. When he wasn't working, he loved
flying his airplane, fishing and playing music. His
talents included playing instruments such as the
mandolin, violin, accordion and organ. He could not
read music, he played only by ear.
Roy was a member
of the Vernon Lutheran Church, where he served on
various committees. He also belonged to the Dows
American Legion, the Webster City Moose Lodge, and
served on the Wright County Board of Review.
He was preceded in
death by his parents; mother and father in-law;
grandson, Michael Johnson; and sister, Irene Cramer.
Survivors include
his wife; son, Jerry (Debra) Johnson of Galt;
grandchildren, Greg (Jennifer) Johnson of Goldfield
and Shallon (Joshua) Weis of Galt;
great-grandchildren, Whitney and McKayla Johnson and
Jacob and Liam Weis; sister, Amy Goodman of Perry;
brother, Earl (Lorraine) Johnson of Iowa Falls;
sisters and brothers in-law, Gene and June Patterson
of Sweet Home, Opal Yoder of Woolstock, Jim and Gwen
Anderson of Williams, Myron and Donna Patterson of
Webster City and Gene Cramer of Thor.

Clifford Anderson

Clifford Anderson, 87, of Klemme, died on Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at the Mercy Hospital
in Mason City.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 11, at the
Peace Reformed Church south of Garner.
Clifford Kenneth,
was born on June 6, 1918 at Goodell. His mother died when
he was nine months old and he was raised by his
paternal grandmother, Mary (Andrew) Anderson in
Garner. In 1941 he married Evelyn Lenz and they farmed
near Klemme.
He was preceded in
death by his wife (1956); parents; step-mother, Mary
(Goodridge) Anderson; brothers, William and Harry;
sister, Mary (Carl) Prelip; half-sister, Harriet
(Bernard) Halfpop; and half-brothers, Verdie and
Leonard.
Survivors include
sons, Donald (Alice) Anderson of Sioux Falls, South
Dakota and Robert (Sheryl) Anderson of Garner;
half-sisters, Marian (Roland) Kinseth and Loretta
Smith of Belmond; and half-brother, Harold (Bonnie)
Anderson of Goodell.

Leo W. Barkema
June 21, 2005
Leo W. Barkema, 83, of Belmond, died on Saturday, June 18, 2005, at the Belmond Care
Center. A graveside memorial service will be held at a
later date in the Amsterdam Cemetery, Goodell.
Leo was born on June
27, 1921 in rural Goodell, the son of Hauko and Grace
(Lieuwen) Barkema. He attended school in Goodell and
served in the United States Army, achieving the rank
of corporal. Leo married Noreen McMahon on November
21, 1942 in Belmond. They moved to Mason City in 1961.
Leo worked for the
Iowa Department of Transportation for 36 years in the
maintenance department. He traveled extensively and
made many trips to northern Minnesota to fish. He
enjoyed golfing and once got a hole-in-one.
He was preceded in
death by his parents; and brothers, Theodore and
Leland.
Leo is survived by
his wife of Belmond; brothers, Harvey (Irene) Barkema
of Forest City and Mervin (Irene) Barkema of Klemme;
and sisters, Marvel Statdlander of Sheffield and Jean
Ostendorf of Klemme.

Jon A. Jenison

Jon Allen Jenison, 8, of Fort Dodge, died on Sunday, June 26, 2005.
Funeral services were held
on Tuesday, July 5, at the Northfield Church of Christ, with Rev.
Tom Nyman officiating. Accompanist was Patty Rica Van
Cannon and soloist was Rev. Nyman.
Jon and his
brother, Denver Behrends, 10, were swimming in a
rain swollen creek. Denver was pulled from the swift
moving water by a passersby. Jon's body was found June
30 by rescue workers.
Jon was born on March
30, 1997 in Ft. Dodge, the son of Jeff Jenison and
Jade Collingsworth. He would have been a 3rd grader
this fall. He loved his church and enjoyed video
games, riding his bike, fishing and playing with his
dog.
Preceding him in
death was his paternal grandfather, Jon Allen Jenison.
Jon is survived by
his
father, Jeff (Nicole) Jenison of Fort Dodge; mother,
Jade (Mike) Collingsworth (formerly of Belmond) and
brothers, Denver and Joshua and sister, Isabellah, all
of Fort Dodge; paternal grandmother, Jean Jenison of
Belmond; and maternal grandparents, Kim Collingsworth
of Fort Dodge and Paul Haugland of Belmond.

Ruth Neuberger
July 5, 2005
Ruth Neuberger, 103, died on Monday, June 27, 2005, at the Concord Care Center
in Garner, where she had resided for many years.
Funeral services were held on Friday, July 1, at the Klemme United
Methodist Church, with Rev. Paddy Druhl officiating.
Burial was in the Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme.
Ruth Matilda, the
daughter of John and Marie (Yahnke) Neuberger, was
born on June 26, 1902, on her parents farm east of
Klemme. She attended Hancock County Rural School
through the 8th grade.
As a young lady,
Ruth began her life long devotion to her family. She
helped raise her brother, Merlin. She was a diligent,
hardworking, and independent lady who wasn't afraid to
help out with various chores including bean walking,
picking corn, or baby sitting for others.
She worked at
Wilson's Drug, Larson's Store, Thada's Grocery, and
Kluckhohn's Grocery in Klemme. Ruth worked at the
Garner and Clear Lake Bakery and was a cook at the
Concord Care Center.
Ruth loved
gardening and will be remembered for her beautiful
flowers. She had a sweet tooth and enjoyed
strawberries, sugar cookies, homemade ice cream, and
chocolates. Her morning coffee was spent writing
stories about everyday life happenings. Ruth was a
meticulous housekeeper.
She was preceded
in death by her parents; siblings, Mae, Faye, Margaret,
Clarence, Walter, John, William and Merlin; niece,
Margie (Ray) Wille; and nephew, Glenn (Darlene) Blumer.
Ruth is survived
by her sister-in-law, Betty Neuberger of Klemme;
brother-in-law, Asa Gibbs of Garner; and these local
nieces and nephews, Mary Ann (Luverne) Schmidt of
Klemme, Marie (Paul) Jurgens of Latimer, Bill
(Madonna) Neuberger of Klemme, David (Judy) Neuberger
of Garner, Marlys (Guy) Luscombe of Klemme and Joe
(Kathy) Gibbs of Garner.

Lonny L. Stoffer
July 12, 2005
Lonny L. Stoffer, 50, formerly of
Belmond, died on Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at his home in Monett,
Missouri.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday,
July 16, at 10:30 a.m., at the Dugger Ewing Funeral
Home in Belmond, with Pastor Lynn Spencer-Smith
officiating. Interment will be in the Belmond
Cemetery.
Lonny Lester, the
son of Lester Wilbur and Laura Marie Hunst Stoffer,
was born on December 1, 1954 in Belmond. He graduated
from the Belmond High School in 1973 and obtained an
associate degree in law enforcement at NIACC. He
married Laura Kiefer in 1981.
In 1999, Lonny
moved to Monett, to pursue his dream of being a
professional dog handler and breeder. On August 15,
2003, he married Donna Barnes in Miami, Oklahoma. Lonny
was a member of the United Church of Christ in
Belmond.
Lonny was a member
of the Bulldog Club of America and the French Bulldog
Club of America, and will be remembered by those in
this field for his Twin Lakes line. He was an
accomplished and admired breeder and professional dog
handler.
He was preceded in
death by his father.
He is survived by
his wife, Donna; sons, Robert Stoffer of Forest City,
Logan Stoffer and Louis Stoffer of Belmond; mother,
Laura Saunders of Belmond; sister, Jill Stoffer and
husband, Mark Allen of Belmond; and a brother, Leland
Stoffer of St. Petersburg, Florida.
