Sally Freund

Marcella Josephine "Sally" Freund, 54, was born on
November 27, 1948, at Harlan, the daughter of Edwin and Susan (Schramm)
Freund.
Sally was baptized at the
Catholic Church and has lived most of her life in Greene County. She was a
resident at Cedar Lane Estates, before moving to CLC-Jefferson in December
2001.
Sally died on Wednesday, January 1, 2003,
at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson.
Her parents preceded her in
death. Survivors include one brother, Kenneth (Karol) Freund of Belmond.
The body was cremated and
will be privately buried in the St. Joseph's Cemetery in Jefferson.

Edythe Walrod
January 7, 2003
Edythe Winifred Walrod, died on Thursday, January 2, 2003.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 6, at the Belmond United Methodist Church
with burial in the Belmond Cemetery.
Edythe, the daughter of
Thomas and Lida (Preston) Greenwood, was born on February 20, 1918, in Belmond.
She graduated from the Belmond High School.
She married Charles Walrod
at Chillicothe, Missouri in 1942. After his death in 1965, Edythe worked as a
cook at the Belmond High School until 1984.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; husband; two sisters, Thelma and Evelyn Greenwood; and three
brothers, Lawrence, Thomas Jr. and Robert Greenwood.
Survivors include her
daughter, Linda (Wayne) Schlichting of Britt; son, Gary (Donna) Walrod of
Belmond; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Agnes Robbins
January 14, 2003
Agnes Robbins, 97, died on Saturday, January 4, 2003.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 7, 2003, at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church,
Belmond, with Father David Beckman and Deacon Nick Schmit officiating.
Burial was in the St. Francis Cemetery.
Music was provided by Ann
Shriver, organist and Rose Speth, Cantor. Lector was Ken Robbins.
Eucharistic ministers were Mary Ann Spitler and Regina Lamoureux. Alter
servers were James Robbins and Michael Just. Robert and Marian Studebaker
were gift bearers and Dave Robbins and Art Lamoureux were ushers.
Casket bearers were, Jim
Swenson, Terry Anderson, Vince McDermott, Tom Stevens, Larry Robbins, Larry
Flanagan and Harold McLure.
Agnes Adeline Fuller, the
daughter of Sumner and Katie (Monaghan) Fuller was born on May 26, 1905, on her
parent's farm near Goodell. She attended rural schools and graduated from
the
Goodell High School in 1922. She attended Ellsworth Community College and
later graduated from the Mason City Junior College. She received a BS degree
from Drake University. She taught for a number of years in the Pleasant Township #1
rural school. She also taught at Garner, Goodell and Belmond area schools.
Her career spanned many generations.
Agnes married Carl Daniel
Robbins on June 25, 1929, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Goodell. They had
one son, Merle. They made their home in Goodell until 1944 when they moved
to Belmond.
Agnes and Carl enjoyed playing cards with friends and family.
They were both active members in the Catholic Church. Agnes was a member of
St. Francis Xavier, the Catholic Daughters, Rosary Society, and a Director
of Religious Education. She also belonged to the Belmond Library Board for
many years and was a member of the Goodell Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid
reader and enjoyed playing bingo.
Agnes lived on her own
after her husband, Carl died in 1985 and become a resident of the Belmond
Health Care Center in December of 1996.
Preceding her in death were
her parents; husband; daughter-in-law, Bev Robbins; sisters, Winnifred and
her husband, Charles Studebaker, Wava Fuller, Sofdrania and her husband,
Francis McNulty, Mildred and her husband, Lee Robbins; brothers, Marsellus
and his wife, Emma Fuller, Sumner and his wife, Carrie Fuller; and
brother-in-law, Everett Bussa.
Survivors include her son,
Merle of Belmond; his son, Mike (Kathy) Robbins and their children, Jaymeson
and Kellie, all of Toledo, Iowa; sister, Margaret Bussa, Hutchins, Florida.

Darlene M. Mallow
January 14, 2003
Darlene Marie Mallow, 59, died on Saturday, January 11, 2003.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 15, at the United Methodist Church in
Belmond, with Pastor Paddy Druhl officiating and Julie Harms, eulogist.
Interment was in the Belmond Cemetery.
Darlene Marie Sturm was
born on February 16, 1943, in Belmond to Albert G. and Nellie M. Robertson
Sturm. She graduated from the Belmond High School in 1963.
On January 3, 1964, she was
married to Dean Edwin Mallow. They lived in the north central Iowa area.
They divorced in 1971. Darlene and her husband, Roger lived in Hampton and
most recently in Alexander.
Darlene was preceded in
death by her parents.
She is survived by her
husband, Roger of Alexander; daughter, Susan (Sean) Fogarty of Rowan; four
sons, Edwin of Rowan, Roger of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Mark of Waterloo,
Tony Mumford of Alexander; sister, Margie Sturm of Belmond; four brothers,
Albert Lee of Geneva, Harvey, Sr., of Belmond, Ardell of Humboldt, and Roy
of Belmond.

Kenneth W. Olinger
January 14, 2003
Kenneth W. Olinger, 84, died on Sunday, January 12, 2003.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 15, at the Salem United Methodist Church in
Meservey with Pastor Dan Voss officiating. Interment was in the Amsterdam
Cemetery near Goodell.
Kenneth Wayne Olinger was
born on September 12, 1918 in Dows, the son of Ralph W. and Hazel (Crane) Olinger. He attended school in the Dows area.
Kenneth married Ruth Blickenderfer in 1940 and they farmed near Clear Lake. In 1967, Kenneth was
united in marriage to Janice Peterson and they lived in Belmond, where
Kenneth drove a truck for ACCO Seeds. In 1983 they moved to Alexander and in
1993 to Meservey.
He was preceded in death by
his parents; son, Robert; step-son, Jim; step-daughter, Donetta; and
brother, Homer.
He is survived by his wife,
Janice of Meservey; sons, Ellery (Carol) Olinger of Clear Lake and William (Sharren)
Olinger of Mason City; daughter-in-law, Judy Olinger of Mason City;
step-daughter, Yvonne (Richard) Rademacher of Charles City; step
daughter-in-law, Alice Peterson of Belmond; and sisters, Ida VerHelst of
Dows and LaVon Bridges of Dows.

Arnold A. Allen
January 14, 2003
Arnold Alvin Allen, 62, of Olathe, Kansas, died on Monday,
January 13, 2003, at his home after a 34-year battle with cancer.
Arnold was born on November 2,
1940 in Belmond, the son of Alvin and Ruby Allen. He was employed by the
Fiscal Oil Company for 37 years.
Survivors include his wife,
Judith; daughter, Lindsay Hodges; son, Scott; sisters, Ardith Stevenson and
Aileen Hoffman; and brother, Arden.

George F. Kelley
January 30,2003
George Franklin Kelley, 88, died on Monday, January 20, 2003. Burial was in the
Elwood Cemetery, Waterloo.
He was born
in Wellman, Iowa on November 24, 1914 and lived in Denver, Colorado since WW
II.
George was
the brother of Dolly Fleener and Mabel Kelley, formerly of Belmond.
Survivors
from this area are his nephews, Tom Fleener, Vic Fleener, Larry Fleener,
Eddie Kelley and a niece, Bonnie Dirks.

Eleanor A. Keppers
January 30,2003
Eleanor Adaline Keppers, 91, died on Thursday, January 23, 2003, at the Trinity Medical
Center in Fort Dodge.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, January 25, at
the Sacred
Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove, with burial in the Calvary Cemetery,
Eagle Grove.
Eleanor Adaline Kernan, the daughter of Michael J. and Aurelia (Sullivan) Kernan,
was born on August 1, 1911. She lived on a farm near Goodell, moved to Belmond
in the 4th grade, graduated from the Belmond High School and attended business
school in Mason City. She taught in rural schools and also worked at the
Post Office in Belmond.
Eleanor
married Roger P. Keppers on November 30, 1939. They farmed southeast of
Eagle Grove until 1968, when they built a home and moved into town.
Eleanor was
a member of the Sacred Heart Church, Guild, Catholic Daughters of America, and
held Deanery offices in ACCW. She was also a member of the Equality Club and
the Woolstock Homemakers.
Preceding
her in death were her parents; her husband; brothers, Raphael and Leo; and
sisters, Aurelia Kernan, Mary Graepler and infant Agnes.
Survivors
include daughters, Kathleen (James) St. John of Hastings, Minnesota and
Muriel (Kent) Gearhart of Eagle Grove; grandchildren, Patrick, Kristin, and
Laura St. John, Pamela Girgen, Kristopher and Kendrick Gearhart, Karrie
Rosales; and four great-grandchildren.

Hazel Anderson
January 30, 2003
Hazel Anderson, 92, of Dows, died on Thursday, January 23, 2003, at the Franklin General
Nursing Facility in Hampton.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 27, at the
Presbyterian Church in Dows.
Hazel, the
daughter of Martin and Rena Battin Ellenberger, was born on February 14, 1919,
near Bloomfield. She married V. O. "Andy" Anderson in 1930 at Princeton,
Missouri. They had a daughter, Kay. They moved to a farm near Dows in 1936.
They helped operate the family hardware store and later opened Anderson
Service in Webster City.
Hazel was
preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter; and sister, Florence.
Hazel is
survived by brother, Cal (Katherine) Ellenberger of Des Moines.

Henry J. Iverson, Jr.
January 30, 2003
Henry J. "Hank" Iverson, Jr., 90, of Dows, died on Friday, January 24, 2003, at the
Hampton Care Center.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 28, at the First Lutheran Church
in Dows, with interment in the Alden Cemetery.
Henry was
born on April 10, 1912 near Dows, the son of Henry and Anna Marie Severson
Iverson. He married Audrey Ione Sowl in 1938 at Northwood. They farmed near
Dows until retirement in 1975 when they moved to town.
Henry was
preceded in death by his parents; sister, Martha Hegland; and a brother,
Stewart Iverson, Sr.
He is
survived by his wife; brother, Andrew (Francis) Iverson of Fort Dodge;
sister, Helen (Arne) Christofferson of Eugene, Oregon; and four nephews,
including Sen. Stewart Iverson, Jr. of Dows.

Robert C. Provorse

Robert C. "Bob" Provorse, 73, died on Friday, January 24, 2003, at his home in Sioux
City. Burial was on Friday, January 31, 2003, at the St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery, rural
Belmond.
Bob was
born on April 7, 1929 in Belgrade, Nebraska, the son of Robert and Mary (Zaruba)
Provorse. He was raised in Columbus, Nebraska.
Bob married
Avis Toftey of Kanawha on June 5, 1954. They moved to Sioux City in 1965,
when he began to teach and coach.
Survivors
include his wife; 4 sons; 6 grandchildren; 1 brother; two sisters-in-law,
Donna Toftey of Belmond and Della Toftey of Kanawha; and nephew, Rodney
Toftey of Kanawha.

Beulah M. Draves

Beulah M. Draves, 93, of rural Galt, died on Tuesday, January 28, 2003, at the
Belmond Health Care Center.
Beulah was
born on November 7, 1909 near Popejoy, the daughter of Carl and Lena
(Keller) Ellingson. She married Harold Draves on August 29, 1927.
Survivors
include her daughter, Shirley Whipple (Leslie) of Belmond; a son, Robert Draves (Karen) of Galt; a brother, Elmer Ellingson (Verdelle) of Alden; a
sister, Ardelle Waggoner of Dows; two sisters-in-law, Florence Barz of
Belmond and Margaret Bartz of Alexander; 4 granddaughters; 9
great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
