Allen Barz

February 8, 2005

Allen Barz, 80, of Garner, died on Wednesday, February 2, 2005, at his home.

Allen Barz, the son of Henry and Clara (Born) Barz, was born on June 1, 1924. He married Ihlajean Johnson on October 17, 1948 in Klemme.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Mark (Dalena) Barz, Michael Barz and Dan Barz; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Ray Barz; sister, Avis (Eldon) Hagen of Klemme; sister-in-law, Gladys Barz; and mother-in-law, Gay Horgen.

Raymond F. Boehnke

February 8, 2005

Raymond F. Boehnke, 89, of Garner, died on Wednesday, February 2, 2005, at his home.

Raymond was born on December 1, 1915, near Garner. He married Ruby Hage on July 25, 1936.

He is survived by his wife; daughters, Virginia (Don) Brocker, Barbara Needham, Kay (Alden) Lundebrek, Patricia (Dick) Nordman and Rebecca (David) Ziesmer of Belmond; 14 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; and sister, Lillian Wetterling.

Mary L. Negrete

February 8, 2005

Mary L. Negrete, 76, of Belmond, died on Saturday, February 5, 2005, at the Belmond Medical Center.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 8, 2005, at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, with Father David Beckman and Deacon Nick Schmit officiating. Interment was in the St. Francis Cemetery.

Organist was Maxine Whitty and cantor was Jon Barrett. Ushers were Dr. Art Benetti and Jim Houser. Honorary casket bearers were Coleen Greiman, Regina Lamoureux, Helen Dorr, Veronica Benetti, Mona McNamara and Nancy Beenken. Casket bearers were Herb Greiman, Enrique Candanoza, Bob McNamara, Art Lamoureux, Victor Mendizabal and Terry Anderson.  

Mary Lou, the daughter of Benjamin and Josephine Barron Argumedo, was born on June 1, 1928, in West Des Moines. She graduated from the Valley High School in 1946. She married Joseph Negrete on February 26, 1949, at the Sacred Heart Church in West Des Moines.

They moved from West Des Moines to Belmond where she was a homemaker and worked part time at Acco Seed Company. She enjoyed working in her garden and canning the fruits from her labor.

Mary was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed watching her family participate in football and wrestling and was an avid sports fan in general. She enjoyed music and loved listening to her favorites.

Mary was an active member of the St. Francis Xavier parish and helped many people in the local Hispanic community.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 2002; two sisters; a half-brother; and a half-sister.

Mary is survived by sons, Frank of Clarion, Dennis (Bea) of Belmond and David (Kayla) of Grimes; grandchildren, Jesse (Shawna), Jessica, Brennan and Brock; great-grandchildren, Kobe, Vada and Ava; brother, Richard Argumedo of Des Moines; and sisters, Margaret Villagomez of Des Moines, Josephine Hernandez of Tampa, Florida, Carmen Gooding of West Des Moines and Judy Freyre of Miami Beach, Florida.

Marian Locatell

February 15, 2005

Marian (Anderson) Locatell, 73, of Sacramento, California, died on Monday, February 7, 2005, in Sacramento. No funeral service will be held. She was cremated.

Marian Anderson was born on November 20, 1931 at Belmond, the daughter of Susan and Orphie Anderson. She graduated from the Belmond High School in 1949 and attended college. She taught for a few years before marrying Lou Locatell from Cedar Rapids.

Preceding her in death were her parents; daughter, Lynn Christoforo; brother, Kenneth Anderson; sister, Joyce Bonte; and brother, Duane Anderson.

Survivors are her husband; daughters, Dr. Kathryn Locatell and Anne Harris both of California; and son, Thomas of Boston.

Jean Ann Greenwood

February 15, 2005

Jean Ann Greenwood, 75, died on Thursday, February 10, 2005, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Center in Mason City.

Funeral services were held on Monday, February 14, at the Belmond United Church of Christ Congregational with Reverend Lynne Spencer-Smith officiating. Burial was in the Belmond Cemetery.
Carol Severson was the organist, Gary and Velda Steenblock were the vocalists. Casket bearers were Gary Walrod, Wayne Schlichting, Doug Kraft, Barry Baker, Doug Pals and Randy Just.

Jean Ann, the daughter of Glenn and Hulda (Nelson) Baker, was born on December 18, 1929. She attended country schools and graduated from the Belmond High School in 1948. Then she attended Waldorf College for one year.

On May 29, 1949, Jean married Robert Greenwood. She was employed for a year as a bookkeeper at TomCo Seeds and then joined Bob in Germany while he completed his two-year term with the United States Army. In 1965 they bought a sanitation service in Belmond and operated it as Greenwood Sanitation for 25 years, with Jean as the bookkeeper. In 1990 they sold the business to their son, Jerry. Bob died later in 1990, and Jean continued to help Jerry for a time.

Jean's greatest moments were fishing with Bob, cooking holiday meals for her family, and attending any of her children's sports or band activities. Jean enjoyed watching her family participate in many bowling events. One of her greatest joys was being a grandma.

Jean made her home at the Heritage Care Center in Mason City since 2001.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; sister, Mary Lou Tice; brothers, Curtis, Warren, Claire, Glenn (Bus) and John (Jack).

Survivors include her children, Jerry (Sylvia) Greenwood of Belmond, Mark (Annette) Greenwood of Mason City and Peggy (Todd) Smith of Belmond; grandchildren, Halie and Brooke Greenwood of Mason City and Easton Smith of Belmond; as well as sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews from the Baker and Greenwood families.

Hermina Wood

February 15, 2005

(Anna) Hermina Wood, 90, died on Thursday, February 10, 2005, at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake. 

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 15, at the Ward-Van Slyke Chapel in Clear Lake with Rev. Ed Bard officiating. Interment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery at a later date.

Hermina was born on April 7, 1914 on a farm near Alden, the daughter of Herman Steinmeyer and (Anna) Catherine Geis. She graduated from the Hayward (Wisconsin) High School in 1930. Then she completed all of the requirements for her teacher certification. She taught first through eighth grades at Round Lake, Wisconsin for five years.

Hermina married Ed J. Wood on June 15, 1937 in Clear Lake. They lived in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin before returning to the Ventura-Meservey area to farm in 1947. They moved to Clear Lake in 1981.

Hermina frequently talked about the satisfaction and joy of teaching as a young woman during the Depression years. She was especially proud of the fact that nearly all of her children, as well as many of her grandchildren, continued their education and/or graduated from college.  She enjoyed her family, flowers, music, dancing, playing the piano, crossword puzzles and crocheting.

She was preceded in death by husband; parents; brother, Lester; and sister, Esther Lois who died at birth.

She is survived by children, Gary (Bettie) Wood of Inez, Texas, Karen (Charles) Tubesing of Chesterland, Ohio, Steve (Sharon) Wood of Norfolk, Virginia, Ken (Carol) Wood of Columbia, Maryland, Byron (Marlys) Wood of Clear Lake, Greg Wood of Carrolton, Texas and Roger Wood of Los Angeles; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Mildred Macri

February 15, 2005

Mildred I. (Slining) Macri, died on Friday, February 11, 2005, at the Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines after a short battle with cancer.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 15, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clive.

Mildred Slining was born in Belmond on February 8, 1926, and lived in Des Moines most of her life. She worked in the fashion industry well into her 70s.

Survivors include sisters, Janet Thornton of Huxley and Joann Kuester of Belmond; brother, Harry Slining, Jr. of Babbitt, Minnesota; daughter, Marsha (Tim) Stanton of Overland Park, Kansas; and son, Michael Macri, Jr. of Clive.

Sadie B. Swenson

February 15, 2005

Sadie Bertha Swenson, 94, died on Saturday, February 12, 2005, at the Belmond Health Care Center.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 15, at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Reverend Rod Hopp officiating. Burial was in the Belmond Cemetery.

Sadie was born on July 27, 1910, to Anno and Jenny (Aldrich) Terhark at German Valley, Illinois. On January 4, 1934, she married William Swenson. He died in 1969.

Sadie lived at Lake Cornelia until moving to the Belmond Community Apartments. She resided at the Belmond Health Care Center the past two years.

Sadie served as a housekeeper for many families in the Clarion and Belmond area. She was an excellent cook who worked in many area restaurants. After retiring she was known to lend her culinary skills to others.

She was a Sunday School Teacher for many years, a member of the Mary Circle, Belmond Hospital Auxiliary, the Belmond Historical Society and a past Noble Grand of the Odd Fellows.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son, (Wm.) Bill; grandson, Todd Larkin; son-in-law, Bernard Miller; three sisters and eight brothers.

Survivors include daughters, Genevieve Larkin of Belmond and Karen Miller of Muskogee, Oklahoma; son, Richard Swenson of Marion, Iowa; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Irene Nelson

February 22, 2005

Irene Nelson, 73, of Belmond, died on Thursday, February 17, 2005, at the Belmond Health Care Center, following a three and one-half year battle with cancer.

Funeral services were held on Monday, February 21, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Belmond, with Rev. Lowell Halvorson officiating. Burial was in the Belmond Cemetery.

Irene Renicker, the daughter of Harry and Jennie (Oster) Renicker, was born on March 1, 1931, on her parents' farm near Woden. She attended the Grant Township School #8 and graduated from the Buffalo Center High School in 1950. Irene married Gerald Gird Nelson on August 30, 1952 at Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Irene was a homemaker and had been a partner in Gerald's welding business for many years. She was a diligent and tender caregiver to special needs children, including Bobby Greiman. She was a special friend and care provider to Anna Busick. Irene will be remembered as a kind and tender lady with a heart bigger than her being. Her gift of nurturing had shown through at its best in recent months as she spent time catering to the needs of her terminally ill daughter, Bonnie Anderson prior to Bonnie's death this January.

Irene enjoyed time with her family and friends, fishing and camping excursions with her husband, and anything that included her children and grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and loved to collect angels, bears, bells and salt and pepper shakers. Irene enjoyed watching various sports teams. Irene was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church and the VFW Auxiliary Post 4244 of Belmond.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband in 1987; daughter, Geraldine in 1954; daughter, Bonnie; and grandson, Joshua Leonard Anderson in 1985.

Survivors include daughter, LeeAnn Nelson and special friend, Loran Peil of Belmond; son, Jerry (Kymberli) Nelson and their children, Mackenzie and Michael of Renton, Washington; son-in-law, Terry R. Anderson and his son, Duane of Goodell; stepdaughter, Betty Lou Hammond of Bellevue, Nebraska; sisters, Marie Swisher of Darwin, Minnesota, Alice Jandl of Mankato, Minnesota, Jeanette (Walt) McAllister of Lake George, Minnesota and Betty Ottman and companion, Jack Newton of Tomah, Wisconsin; and brother, Martin (Iva) Renicker of Redwood City, California.

Allie Pastour

February 22, 2005

Allie Pastour, 96, of Belmond, died on Friday, February 18, 2005, at the Belmond Medical Center.

Funeral services were held on Monday, February 21, at the Bethany Reformed Church with Rev. Melvin Voss officiating. Interment was in the Alexander Cemetery.

Allie Pals, the daughter of Dick L. and Elizabeth (Kuper) Pals, was born on December 25, 1908, on her parent's farm in Wright County, near Alexander. She graduated from the Alexander High School in 1926. Then she attended Iowa Falls Junior College where she majored in education. Allie married Henry Pastour on February 17, 1932 at the Immanuel Reformed parsonage.

Allie was a homemaker and devoted many years to raising her children. In the mid 1960s she began working at the Ben Franklin Store in Belmond and then at the Belmond Community Hospital. She worked as a nurses aide at the hospital for many years until her retirement at age 72. In recent weeks she was surrounded by the support of her family, friends and the employees at the hospital where she had given the same care to many patients.

For almost 30 years Allie resided at the Belmond Retirement Community Apartments.

Allie and Henry were supportive of their children's many extracurricular activities. In later years Allie enjoyed watching sports on television. She was a loving grandma who received a great deal of satisfaction from times spent playing games with their grandchildren and baby sitting them, Her family will remember her special homemade cookies and handicrafts. She did sewing, clothes alterations and crocheted many gifts.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1968; son, Wayne in 1961; five brothers; and five sisters.

Survivors include sons, Dennis Pastour of Belmond and Vernon (Jane) Pastour of Altoona; a daughter, Norlene (Larry) Main of Buffalo Center; sister, Minnie Mennenga of Belmond; grandchildren, Ron (Amy) Main and their children, Carly and Colton of Buffalo Center, Randy (Monica) Main and their children, Sydney and Hannah of Buffalo Center, Renea (Dan) Mitchell and their son, Mason of Nashua, Tracy (Ernst) Hoffman and their children, Madyson and Zane of Pleasant Hill and Chad (Tiffany) Pastour and their children, Ashley Schroeder and Jenna Pastour of Mitchellville.

Wayne A. Stille

February 22, 2005

Wayne Allen Stille, 69, of Goodell, died on Saturday, February 19, 2005, at the Belmond Medical Center.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 23, at the Goodell United Methodist Church with Pastor Paddy Druhl officiating.

Shirley Kuhlers was organist and Marilyn Janssen was vocalist. Casket bearers were Wayne DuVall, Kenton Stille, Brad Revland, Terry Zeigler, Dickie Barkema, Scott Burrs, Randy Waage, John Burrs, Lynne Stille, Kevin Burrs, Jeff Waage and Stacy Kern. Ushers were Herb Greiman and Al Pralle. Interment was in the Amsterdam Cemetery near Goodell.

Wayne Allen, the son of George and Ina Berghefer Stille, was born on April 18, 1935, on the family farm near Klemme. The family moved to Goodell in 1943 and then to a farm east of Goodell in 1947. Wayne attended Country School #8 near Klemme. He graduated from the Goodell High School in 1953, where he was a member of the baseball team and worked in the hardware store.

On September 3, 1955 he married Gloria Burrs at the EUB Church in Goodell.

Wayne worked for the Klemme and Garner creameries as a milk hauler, managed the chicken farm east of Goodell for four years, then hauled milk for AMPI. He worked for several farmers throughout his life.

Wayne was a member of the Goodell United Methodist Church and helped with many remodeling jobs there. He served on the Goodell City Council since 1987, was a member of the city water department and was a scout leader. He loved tractors, mainly John Deere, and enjoyed gardening, wood working and other crafts.

Preceding him in death were his father; brother-in-law, Mac Dresbach; and great-nephew, Andy Rasmussen.

Surviving are his wife; sons, Gene, Mark (Ginger), Steve "Beaver", and Tom Stille, all of Goodell; adopted daughter, Lisa Laube; two grandchildren; his mother, Ina of Garner; sisters, Maxine Dresbach of Mason City and Sharyl (Marlin) Stadtlander of Garner; brothers, Kenton Stille and friend, Carol of Poolville, Texas and Lynn (Jan) Stille of Davenport; and brother-in-law, John (Sue) Burrs.

Herbert K. Ross

March 2, 2005

Herbert K. Ross, 85, of Dows, died on Saturday, February 19, 2005, at the Belmond Medical Center.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 26, at the First Presbyterian Church in Dows, with Pastor Tony Hershey officiating. The Dows Community Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Herbert Karl, the son of Albert and Elsa Ross, was born in Rostock, Germany on January 25, 1920. As a young child, Herb moved with his family to the United States and settled in the Galt area where he attended country school. He helped farm in the area until marrying Vivian Welzien on May 29, 1943 in Dows. The couple moved to Indiana where Herb worked at Inland Steel.

Herb served in WW II and the Korean Conflict. The couple moved to Dows in 1952 where they owned the H & V Cafe until retiring in 1978. In retirement Herb managed the Dows Country Club and worked as a painter. They enjoyed wintering in Texas until Vivian's passing in 2002. Herb enjoyed golfing, reading, bowling, gardening, fishing, and loved to play cribbage.

Herb was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as elder. He helped with Dows Corn Days, served on the Dows City Council, was a Past President of the Dows Country Club, and a member of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister, Elizabeth; brother, Walter; sons-in-law, Richard Lee, Michael Armour, and John Kunz; and granddaughter-in-law, Mika Lee.

Herb is survived by daughters, Nancy Lee of Belmond and Sylvia Armour-Greenwood (Jerry) of Belmond; grandchildren, Stacie (Simmie) Elmore and their children, Alexa, Dillon, Trae, Zoie and Miko of Belmond, Chad (Angela) Armour and their children, Tyson and Cole of Belmond, Richard Lee and his children, Daniel, Ricky and Kaytlynn of Belmond, Mark (Jennifer) Armour and their daughter, Lindsay of Belmond, Ryan (Mara) Lee of Des Moines and April (Noah) Wolter and their daughters, Ashley and Autumn of Belmond; sisters-in-law, Arliss Tangeros of Estherville and De Ross of Des Moines; and family friend, Gale Wegman.

Laverne W. Stoppelmoor

March 2, 2005

Laverne Walter Stoppelmoor, 90, of Dows, died on Sunday, February 20, 2005, at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.

Funeral services were held on Friday, February 25, at the First Lutheran Church in Dows, with Pastor Paul Thompson officiating. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery near Dows. The Dows Community Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Organist was Phyllis Wesenberg. There was special music by the men's chorus. Ushers were Don and Pat Lane. Casket bearers were Kim Nester, Gary Stoppelmoor, Kathy Marca, Greg Stoppelmoor, Kris Herstein, Nicole Hoversten and Shannon Muhlenbruch.    

Laverne Walter was born June 17, 1914 at Aplington, the first child of William and Grace Stoppelmoor. He attended school in Blairsburg.

Laverne married Eva Bahr on September 24, 1937, at the St. Paul Lutheran parsonage in Alden. After a farm sale in 1956, Laverne and Eva retired from farming at Dows.

He was employed as a mechanic at Braun's Repair, a police officer for the town of Dows for two years, bought a milk truck and hauled milk for eight years, and hauled feed for seven years for the Dows Coop. He retired at 62 to take care of Eva.

Laverne was a member of the Vernon Lutheran Church and joined First Lutheran after they moved to town. He served as deacon and trustee. He was a fireman for 40 years, serving in many offices. He later became an honorary fireman known as "Pappy".

Laverne and Eva traveled to Florida and California to visit their grandchildren whenever possible. He enjoyed fishing, camping, yard and garden work, canning and making jelly, and he made cookies for his grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his wife; parents; brothers, Lawrence and Floyd; sister, Dorothy Spitler; brothers-in-law, Sid Thompson, Frank Welsh, Bob Srigley and Chuck Bahr; sisters-in-law, Wilma Stoppelmoor, Bonnie Stoppelmoor and Norma LaRue; daughter-in-law, Peggy; and grandson, Gary DiLiello.

Survivors are son, Gary of California; daughter, Linda (Darwyne) of Alden; grandchildren, Kim (Chris) Nester, Gary Stoppelmoor Jr., Kathy Marca, Greg (Eva) Stoppelmoor, Kris (Steve) Herstein, Nicole (Kory) Hoversten, Shannon (Carla) Muhlenbruch; step-granddaughter, Geana Scheer; great-grandchildren, Logan, Kortny, Ted, Rianna, Garrett, Hanna, Matthew, Nicholas, Scott, Mikyla, Katlyn, Gabrielle, Henry, Grace, Victoria and Lindsey; sisters, Viora Welsh and Ruby Ann Thompson; and brothers, Sterling and Ernie (Nancy) Stoppelmoor.

Leland A. Lieuwen

March 8, 2005

Leland A. Lieuwen, 79, of Kirksville, Missouri, died on Sunday, February 20, 2005, in Columbia, Missouri.

Funeral services were held on Friday, February 25, at the First Christian Church in Kirksville. Burial was in the Price Cemetery south of Winigan, Missouri.

Leland, the son of Andrew and Elizabeth Lieuwen, was born on March 25, 1925 in Wright County. His parents moved to Belmond while he was an infant and established the Oak Ridge Farm and Dairy. It was here that he was first introduced to the dairy industry which would become his life's work.

After graduating from the Belmond High School in 1943, he attended Iowa State College. During WW II he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific.

He then farmed in the Belmond and Corwith areas. In 1952, he moved to Kirksville to become plant manager of Mitchell Dairy. On November 7, 1955 he married Nina Belle Moffitt of Kirksville.

Leland continued in the dairy industry, managing plants in Hillsboro, Kansas, Denver, Colorado and Los Angeles, California and as a sales representative for Bonnewitz Chemical. In 1971 he and a partner established a firm in Kirksville specializing in the dairy industry.

Beginning as a teenager he was an avid enthusiast of flying. He was a member of the Antique Airplane Flyers Association. He was a member of the First Christian Church, a Shriner, and served on the board of Community Opportunities Workshop.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lillian and Jen; and niece, Betty Martin Horwatt.

Survivors include his wife; sister, Betty (Charles) Griffen Wilmarth of Benton, Louisiana and Belmond; and brother, Howard (Garnett) Moffitt of Winigan.

Ilo Marie Smock

March 2, 2005

Ilo Marie Smock, 95, of Belmond, died on Monday, February 21, 2005, at the Belmond Health Care Center.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 2, at 10:30 a.m., at the Belmond Evangelical Free Church, with Rev. Patrick Kennedy officiating. Burial was in the Ell Township Cemetery in Klemme. The Dugger Ewing Funeral Home of Belmond was in charge of the arrangements.

Ilo, the daughter of Levi and Esther Sampson Klotzbach, was born on October 16, 1909 in Giard, Iowa. She attended a country school in Froelich. In 1928 she married William Anderson. In 1939 she married Leslie Smock.

They made their home in the Klemme and Kanawha area where Ilo worked as a waitress and in a bakery. Leslie died in 1962 and Ilo moved to Wisconsin in 1964. Since 2001 she resided in the Belmond Care Center.

Ilo enjoyed knitting, crocheting, growing flowers and working in the garden. She especially loved fishing in Canada with her family. She was also a member of the Rebekahs, DAV, IOOF, and 4-H.

Ilo was preceded in death by husband, Leslie; daughter, Doreen Winterhalter; son, Noel Anderson; brothers, Walter and Alan Klotzbach; and her parents.

Ilo is survived by sons, Willis (Charlene) Anderson, George Anderson, Darrel (Judy) Smock and Leslie (Cathy) Smock; daughter, Sheryl (George) Dean; grandchildren, Dayle, Vicki, George, Teri, Janet, Ricky, Sheri, Leslie, Mark, Paul, Julie, Brian, Danny, Shelly, Charlette, Ryan, Karrol, Richard, Amy, Michelle, Shawn, Patrick, Barry, and Amy; fifty-five great-grandchildren; seventeen great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Floyd Klotzbach and Louis (Janet) Klotzbach; and sister, Phyllis Wilhite.

Mary Ann Perkins, 92, Belmond, died on Monday, February 21, at the Kanawha Community Home. Arrangements are incomplete at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Britt.

Naomi Plath

Naomi Margaret Plath, 89, died on Tuesday, February 22, 2005, at the Belmond Health Care Center.

Funeral services were held on Friday, February 25, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Belmond, with Pastor Lowell Halvorson officiating. Burial was in the Union Cemetery in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Naomi, the daughter of Harry and Sara Trent Vye, was born on August 28, 1915 in Glendive, Montana. As a young child she moved to St. Paul where she was raised by her Aunt Bertha and Uncle Godfrey Nelson. She graduated from the Johnson High School in St. Paul.

Naomi was married to Grover Downs for 19 years, and they had four children. The family relocated to Belmond in 1947 where they owned and operated Downs Texaco Cafe and Service until 1953. Naomi bought the business back in 1957 and ran it until 1966, when the Belmond tornado destroyed the operation.

On November 5, 1967 Naomi married Delbert Plath and gained daughter, Kathy. They lived in St. Paul, Clarion and Kiester, Minnesota. Delbert died in 1998 and Naomi moved to the Belmond Health Care Center.

Naomi loved family gatherings and seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards (usually winning), going to the cabin at Pelican Lake, and eating Hershey candy bars (without sharing).

She was preceded in death by her parents; aunt and uncle Nelson; husbands, Grover and Delbert; and son, Tim.

Naomi is survived by daughters, Anita (Howard) Trostem of Kiester and Margaret (Jerry) Steenblock of Klemme; son, Tom (Mary) Downs of Franklin, Tennessee; step-daughter, Kathy (Neil) Gabrielson of Britt; fifteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, LaVonne Vye of Las Vegas.
