Funeral services for Edward D. Diekmann of Elma, IA will be held at 11:00 a.m. today, Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at the Conway-Kolbet Funeral Chapel in Elma with Rev. Pam Kranzler officiating. Pallbearers are: Greg Gansen, Bill Zweiboehmer, Joe Klobassa, Ed Conway, Jim O'Donnell, and Steve Heitbrink. Interment will be in the Howard Cemetery at Elma with military rites provided by the Elma American Legion John Frahm Post #597 and the Alta Vista VFW Paul Johann Post #4069.
    Visitation was held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in Elma and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
    Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in Elma, IA is handling the arrangements.
    Edward, 84, died Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.
    Edward Daniel Diekmann was born March 6, 1924 the son of Louis and Laura (Haaf) Diekmann in Elma, IA. He graduated from Elma Public High School in 1941 and then attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City. Ed entered the US Army Air Corp, serving his country in the Aleutian Islands during WWII. He received his honorable discharge on December 7, 1945.  He was then employed by the Howard County Equity as a bookkeeper for over 35 years. Ed was a founding board member and treasurer of Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Elma.  He was very supportive of the Elma community and always selflessly helped out in any way he could.
    He was a member of Elma American Legion John Frahm Post #597, Alta Vista VFW Paul Johann Post #4069, Elma United Methodist Church, and the Elma Municipal Band for which he played the trombone.
    Ed enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, traveling, music, and his vegetable garden. He was also an avid Hawkeye and Cubs fan.
    He is survived by one niece: Susan (Steve) Heitbrink, and one nephew: Charles L. Garmen both of Charles City. 
    Ed was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Laura; one sister: Lois Garmen; and one niece: Vicky Brandt Garmen.

    A Mass of Christian Burial for Theresa M. Biwer of Elma, IA will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elma with Father Kenneth Glaser officiating. Barb Boyle will be the organist and the congregational hymns will be "Only a Shadow", "Precious Lord Take My Hand", "Be Not Afraid", "Prayer of St. Francis" and "On Eagles Wings". Pallbearers are: Theresa’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Elma.
    Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. today, Wednesday, November 19, 2008 with a 4:30 p.m. rosary and a 5:00 p.m. scriptural wake service at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in Elma. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday.
    Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in Elma is handling the arrangements.
    Theresa, 98, died Sunday, November 16, 2008 at the Colonial Manor in Elma.
    Theresa Marie Biwer was born May 16, 1910, the daughter of Stephen and Mary (Brinks) Rosonke in Alta Vista, IA. She attended school at Immaculate Conception School in Elma, graduating in 1929. Theresa worked for families in the Elma area.
    On November 19, 1935 she married William Biwer at Immaculate Conception Church in Elma. The couple farmed near Elma until they moved into town in 1974. She was employed by Peoples Savings Bank in Elma for 15 years.
    Theresa enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, quilting, playing cards and games with her grandchildren and family. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Rosary Society and Friends and Neighbors Club.
    Theresa is survived by her five children: Marie Biwer of Eau Claire, WI, Elaine Schmitz of Waterloo, IA, Dorothy Schmitz of Ionia, IA, Rose Marie (Chuck) Hickey of Rochester, MN, and Dan (Judy) Biwer of Elma, IA; one daughter-in-law: Judy Biwer of Zumbrota, MN; 20 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
    She was preceded in death by her husband William Biwer on August 25, 1995; one son: William; her parents; sons-in-law: Robert Schmitz and William Schmitz; a grandson: Michael Schmitz; two grandsons and a granddaughter in infancy; three great-grandchildren; three brothers: Joseph, Henry, and Lawrence (Fritz); and a sister: Elizabeth Biwer.
