    Funeral services for Carl "Judd" Krueger, Jr. of New Hampton, IA will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton. Interment with military honors will be in Grace Lutheran Cemetery in rural Tripoli.

    Louise, 98, died Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at the Riceville Family Care and Therapy Center.
    Louise Mabel Murphy was born August 21, 1910 in Riceville the daughter of Brice and Mary (Svoboda) Seavy. Louise graduated from Riceville High School in 1927 with a Special Teaching Certificate for public education. She completed a number of correspondence studies from the University of Iowa at Iowa City and continued teaching in country schools and in the Riceville Public School System. She was affectionately known as “Mrs. Murphy” by her many students.
    On March 7, 1929 she married Lawrence James Murphy and from this union two children were born, Helen and John. They farmed and maintained a dairy herd northeast of Riceville. After retiring from the farm they moved into Riceville as resident managers of the Chisholm - Lindstrom Funeral Home. They purchased a home on East Third Street where Louise continued to live after Lawrence’s death on October 18, 1983.
    Louise is survived by her daughter: Helen (Helene) Russell of Waverly, TN; grandchildren: Michelle Bodensteiner of Loveland, CO, Donna Lynn of Frankfort, KY, Pattie Funte of Davenport, and Philip Russell of Kingston Springs, TN; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
    Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; a son: John; one brother; and one sister.

Charlotte Baethke, 90

    A memorial service for Charlotte M. Baethke of Princeton, MN, formerly of Cresco, IA was held on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at Williams-Dingmann, Princeton, MN. Visitation was held at 6 p.m. with a memorial service at 7 p.m. Interment will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2008 at the New Oregon Cemetery in rural Cresco. 
    Charlotte, 90, died Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at the Elim Care & Rehab Center in Princeton with family by her side.
    Charlotte Mae Baethke was born January 7, 1918 the daughter of Mary (Meyer) and Ed Schlee at Postville, Iowa.
    On July 10, 1943 she married Reuben Baethke in Cresco.
    She worked many years as a cook in the Cresco Public School system, and filled many hours working in her garden and canning all that grew in it. She was known to do embroidery work and make quilts. You could also count on finding her in the kitchen whipping together many yummy meals and of course you had to have dessert, maybe her pecan pie. If she knew you, she fed you!
    Survivors include her children: Jack (Jan) of Harlingen, TX and David of Prairie du Chein, WI; granddaughters: Tonia (Nick) Anderson and Kristi (Troy) Keeler; grandson: Luke Baethke; great-granddaughter: Emily Anderson; sister: Mary Jane (Ken) Timmerman of Decorah; brother: Dick (Norma) Schlee of Postville; and many nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brothers: Jim and Bill; and sister: Betty Anderson.

    Funeral services for Dorothy A. Rainboth of Marcus, IA will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at the Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus with Rev. Gary McDonough officiating. Interment will be in Marcus Amherst Cemetery.
    Visitation was from 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2 at the Earnest - Johnson Funeral Home of Marcus. The family was present from 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service held at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral today, Wednesday, December 3.

    Dorothy, 88, died Sunday, November 30, 2008 at the Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
    Dorothy Agnes Rainboth was born September 4, 1920 on the family farm near Kingsley, the daughter of George Arthur and Mary Agnes (Conley) Pratt. She attended rural school near her home and later graduated from Union Consolidated High School, rural Remsen. Dorothy earned her teacher's certificate from Western Union (Westmar) College in Le Mars and then taught in Lincoln Township, Plymouth County, Iowa for the next three years.
    Dorothy and Wendell "Babe" Rainboth were married on August 14, 1941 in Coleridge, NE. The couple made their home south of Le Mars. Dorothy and Babe farmed and raised their family near Le Mars until 1954 when they relocated to a farm west of Marcus. Babe passed away on May 3, 1994.  Dorothy remained on the farm until moving into Marcus in 1996. She became a resident of Heartland Care Center in Marcus in February of 2003.
    She was presently a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus and formerly a member of the Union Presbyterian Church, rural Remsen. She enjoyed dancing and playing cards.
    Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her daughter: Sharon and Ron Sadler of Spirit Lake; two sons: Clark and Vickie Rainboth of Marcus and Bruce Rainboth of Marcus; seven grandchildren: Rustin and Carol Sadler of Battle Creek, IA, Ryan Sadler of Ida Grove, IA, Jason and Melynda Rainboth of Sioux Falls, SD, Wendy and Todd Tryon of Harrisburg, SD, Joe and Brandie Rainboth of Spearfish, SD, Lee Rainboth of Marcus, and Amber Neisius of Marcus; eight great-grandchildren: Austin and Justin Sadler, Thomas, Avery and Victoria Rainboth, Tytan, Jersy, and Lyncoln Tryon; five brothers: Donald Pratt of Pierson, IA, Lyle and Marian Pratt of Washta, IA, Clarence and Dorothy Pratt of Aurelia, IA, Orlin and Ellen Pratt of Remsen, IA, and Richard and Donna Pratt of Le Mars; and numerous nieces and nephews. 
    She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Wyndom and Robert "Bobbie" Pratt; and sisters: Erma Plendl and Iona Sudtelgte.

    Funeral services for Eldo Nolte of Fredericksburg, IA will be held at 11:00 a.m. today, Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Peace United Church of Christ in Fredericksburg. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Fredericksburg.

    A Mass of Christian Burial for Leo J. Etteldorf of Cresco, IA will be held at 11:00 a.m. today, Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco with Father Richard J. Ament officiating. Interment will be in St. Francis DeSales Cemetery in Ossian.
    Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church today, Wednesday, December 3.

    Leo, 91, died Sunday, November 30, 2008 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, WI following a short illness.
    Leo John Etteldorf was born February 23, 1917 in Ossian, IA, the youngest child of Andrew and Regina (Wagner) Etteldorf. Leo was educated in the Ossian Catholic School and attended Loras Academy in Dubuque. He spent his early years working on the family's Ossian farm with his mother and brothers.
    He enjoyed fishing and hunting. When the farm was sold, Leo moved into a home in Ossian with his mother. They subsequently moved to Cresco. Leo worked in Cresco for his brother-in-law Edward Barloon installing aluminum storm doors and windows. He also was a self-employed painter.
    He is survived by a sister-in-law: Helen Etteldorf of Waukon; one niece: Mary Ann Etteldorf of Waukon; four nephews: Dr. Tom Barloon and Dave (Julie) Barloon, both of Iowa City, Al (Doris) Etteldorf of Decorah, and Robert Etteldorf of Riverside, CA; five grand-nieces; and four grand-nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sister: Frank, Al, Peter, Dr. Hugh, Archbishop Raymond, Joyce Barloon, and Jerome; a brother-in-law: Ed Barloon; and sisters-in-law: Mabel Etteldorf and Mary Etteldorf.

    Funeral services for Edwin "Eddie" L. Begalske of Hawkeye, IA were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 15, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye with Rev. William Horn officiating. Organist was Linda Fritz. Congregational hymns were: "When Peace, Like A River" and "Amazing Grace". Special music by The Luren Singers: "We Shall Walk Through The Valley" and "Beautiful Savior". Honorary pallbearers were: Gideon Brothers of the Local Camp. Interment was in Hawkeye Cemetery in Hawkeye.
    Visitation was held from 3 p.m.-6 p.m. on Sunday, December 14, 2008 at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye and for one hour preceding services at the church on Monday.

    Eddie, 89, died Wednesday, December 10, 2008 following a brief illness at the Good Samaritan Home in West Union where he had made his home since September 12.
    Edwin Louis Begalske was born October 21, 1919, the son of Louis and Lizzie (Ohmann) Begalske in Windsor Township of rural Fayette, County, IA. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye. He received his education in the rural schools and graduated from Hawkeye High School in 1937.
    On April 4, 1967, he married Elaine DeWeese at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waucoma. Eddie farmed for many years between Hawkeye and West Union prior to retiring in 1984.
    He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye where he taught Sunday School for over 22 years, and also served on the church council in many capacities over the years. He also served as a committeeman for 35 years with the A.S.C.S., served on the board of the Lutheran Credit Union in Decorah for seven years, served as chairman and hunger advocate for the Schechum Cluster, and was an active member of the Luren Men's Chorus since 1968.
    He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and traveling with his wife. In his youth he enjoyed baseball and pitched for many local area teams.
    He is survived by two sisters-in-law: Mildred Begalske of Hawkeye and Gladys Schmitt of Cresco; three nephews: Rollin (Ardell) Begalske of Cedar Rapids, David (Judy) Begalske of Oelwein, and Arlin (Kathy) Begalske of Sumner; and one niece: Ruth (Allan) Schlatter of Hawkeye.
    Eddie was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine, who died October 9, 2004; his parents; one brother: Erwin; one sister: Lelah Niemeyer; and one nephew: Mila Begalske.

    Memorial services for Heather A. Kimber of Decorah, IA were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at First Lutheran Church in Decorah with Rev. Lynn G. Groe of St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon officiating. Organist was Marcia Engebretson. Congregational hymns were: "Eagles Wings", "When Peace Like a River", and "Day by Day". Honorary pallbearers were: Nicole Aldredge, Chianne Gangstead, Erin Houdek, Emily Jaastad, Kendra Kraus, Laura Ruen, Veronica Soukup, and numerous friends. Interment was in Hawkeye Cemetery in Hawkeye.
    Visitation was held from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2008 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and for one hour preceding services on Saturday at the church.

    Heather, 20, died Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, WI as a result of injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Sunday, November 30, 2008 on Highway 9 east of Churchtown in Allamakee County.
    Heather Ann Kimber was born August 29, 1988, in Decorah, IA, the daughter of Jeffrey and Debra (McCormick) Kimber. She was baptized by Rev. Lynn Groe of St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon. She attended Decorah High School and Rockefeller School at Northeast Iowa Community College in Calmar, IA. 
    Heather worked at Subway, McDonald's and Wal-Mart. She enjoyed being with her friends and her family. She loved animals, listening to music, cooking, baking, and being outdoors. 
    Heather is survived by her mother: Debra McCormick (fiance, Dean Patterson) of Cresco; her father: Jeff (Judy) Kimber of Waukon; her brother: Jeff Kimber, Jr. of Cresco; two step-sisters: Angela Thornton of Waterloo and Alexis Patterson of Calmar, IA; two step-brothers: Cody Heying and Chase Heying of Ossian; two grandmothers: Helen McCormick of Mission, TX and Vivian Kimber of Decorah; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
    Heather was preceded in death by two grandfathers: John Kimber, Jr. on April 26, 2000 and Jerry McCormick on September 7, 1992; and one uncle: Terry McCormick.

    Funeral services for Thomas G. Heath, Sr. of Lanesboro, MN were held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lanesboro with the Rev. Kerry Eversole and the Rev. Wade Davick officiating. Interment was in Lanesboro Cemetery.
    Visitation was held from 12:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. on Saturday at the church.

    Thomas, 69, died Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, MN following a brief battle with cancer.
    Thomas Gary Heath was born April 22, 1939 in Minneapolis, MN. Following school he served in the Navy.
    On May 31, 1958 he married Della Lee, they later divorced. He married Patricia Forstrom Sorum on May 26, 1972.
    Thomas began his law enforcement career with the Lake City, FL Police Department. He then moved back to Minnesota where he served as police chief of Lanesboro before joining the Fillmore County Sheriff's Department as a deputy. He then took the position of Chief of Police in Cresco, IA where he served more than 20 years. Law enforcement was the love of his life and he enjoyed giving the younger generation the opportunity to pursue careers in law enforcement. Three of his recruits went on to become a county sheriff or police chief.
    In 1998 Thomas returned to Lanesboro. In retirement, he enjoyed bowling, playing cards with friends, fishing, camping, and hunting.
    He is survived by his wife, Patricia; nine children: Mike Heath of Germany, Vikki Heath of Lanesboro, Thomas Heath, Jr., Cathy (Jeff) Raulerson and Carol (Daniel) Ward, all of Florida, Mark Heath and LeAnn (Gary) Olson, both of Lanesboro, JoAnn (Robin) Drake of Iowa and Janel (Al) Pecinovsky of Lewiston; 26 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Denny (Marti) and Jim (Evie), both of Minneapolis; and one sister: Nancy Sathre of Minneapolis.
    Thomas was preceded in death by a step son: Steven Sorum; and a granddaughter: Shannon Goodson.

    Lucille A. Moudry was born March 2, 1917, in rural Winneshiek County, IA, near Ft. Atkinson, the daughter of Joseph and Sophia (Hyke) Bohach.
    On August 26, 1935, she was married to Ben Moudry at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville by Rev. J.P. Broz. To this union one son was born. Her husband Ben died on June 6, 1961.
    Lucille was employed at Buchheit Produce in Calmar, IA for 13 and one half years and then at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah for another 17 one-half years. She later retired into Protivin.
    In her free time she enjoyed flowers, gardening and crocheting. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Rosary Society.
    Survivors include one son: LuVerne (Hazel) Moudry of New Hampton; two grandsons: Allen (June) Moudry of Protivin and Kevin Moudry of Ossian, IA; three great-grandchildren: Brad (Amy) Moudry, Sarah (Al) Njus, and Ben Moudry; four great-great-grandchildren, Breanna and Ty Moudry, and Lydia and Elaina Njus; five step-grandchildren: Annette (Curt) Taylor of Lisbon, Suzanne (Pat) Wall of Prior Lake, MN, Theresa Mihm of Colorado, David (Corey) Mihm of Breckenridge, CO, and Pam (Patrick) Gume of California; and 12 step great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her husband; a granddaughter: Cheryl Ann Moudry in 1967; her parents; and her brother and sister-in-law: Rudy and Ruth Bohach.


Ann Kowalke, 47

    Ann was born on October 25, 1961 to Roger and Marvel (James) Grabau in Cresco, IA. She was raised on her family farm near Bonair. As a child she was baptized and confirmed at the Bonair United Methodist Church. She graduated from Crestwood High School in 1980 and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Winona State University in 1984. She worked as an oncology nurse in Peoria, IL, following college.
    On October 3, 1987 Ann married Todd Kowalke at the First United Methodist Church in Cresco. To this union were born daughters Courtney and Caitlin on October 19, 1990. Ann worked as a post-surgery nurse in Des Moines while Todd attended school. Ann and her family moved to Cresco in 1994. Since moving to Cresco Ann worked at Kessel Kids, Cresco Care Center, Howard-Winneshiek Community School District, and Community Health Services. She was also a member of the Cresco Library Board, PEO, Band Boosters, Choir Boosters, and First United Methodist Church of Cresco.
    Ann is survived by her mother: Marvel; husband: Todd; children: Courtney and Caitlin; brothers: Tim (Sheila) and Alan; nieces and nephews: Garrett, Karlee, Gabe, Danielle, Brooke, Ashley, Shelby, David and Cory; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Ward and Evelyn Kowalke.
    Ann was preceded in death by her father: Roger.
    Ann died at home on December 7, 2008 of causes related to cancer.
    A memorial service will be held today, Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Cresco, IA. There will be no public visitation. Friends are encouraged to join the family for a time of gathering and fellowship in the church basement immediately following services at the church. Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, gifts and plants, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of donor's preference in Ann's memory.

    Memorial services for Darlene J. Perry of Cresco, IA formerly of Alta Vista, IA will be held at 11:00 a.m. today, Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco with Rev. Michael Massa officiating. Inurnment will take place in Union Cemetery at Alta Vista with her grandchildren as honorary pallbearers.
    Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church on Wednesday.

    Darlene, 74, died Sunday, December 7, 2008 at her home after a brief battle with cancer.
    Darlene Josephine Perry was born April 11, 1934 the daughter of George and Mary (Schleimer) Mohrhauser in Battle Creek, IA. She was schooled throughout Iowa, graduating from Cresco High School in May of 1951.
    In June of 1952, she married LaVern Richardson. To this union, three children were born Kenneth, Michael and Cathy. In 1953 Darlene moved to Illinois where she became a factory worker, making everything from drill bits and magnets to Playskool toys. Darlene and Rich were divorced after which Darlene and her children moved back to Iowa.
    Later she wed Eugene Perry on September 3, 1970 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco. After farming a few years in the Lime Springs area, Darlene and her family moved to the Alta Vista area, eventually working as a knitter at Fox River Mills in Osage. She retired at age of 65 to care for her ailing husband, moving back to Cresco, after his death.
    Darlene enjoyed being with her family, gardening (flowers), crocheting, watching sports especially NASCAR and her little black dog Tiffy. Darlene was a member of the Abigail Circle, crocheting baby sweaters for the missions. She was on the church council for three years and chairperson of the Board of Christian Education for three years. She taught Sunday School at Zion Lutheran Church in Alta Vista for many years, and at Immanuel Lutheran Church for four years. Darlene started the Cresco Area Prayer Shawl Ministry in November 2006.
    Darlene is survived by her sons: Kenneth Richardson of Waverly and Michael (Linda) Richardson of Cresco; a daughter: Cathy (Keith Meyer) Koenig of Castalia; eight grandchildren: Rebacca (Chuck) Pierce, Jodi Richardson, Sarah Richardson, Rachel Koenig, Daniel Koenig, Antionette (Chris) Lewis, Dannelle Richardson, Jonathan Richardson; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters: Beverly Wilson of Atwater, CA and Joan Wernett of Cresco; one brother: Wayne Mohrhauser of Rochester, MN; and several nieces and nephews.

Birmingham of Elma, IA formerly of Cresco, IA was held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2008 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lourdes with Father Ray Atwood officiating. Theresa Burke was the organist. Pallbearers were: Nathan Dusheck, Graham Rue, Tony Peters, Jeff Nibaur and Greg Nibaur. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Cresco.
    Visitation was held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 6 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

    Gladys, 94, died Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Colonial Manor in Elma.
    Gladys Margaret Birmingham was born December 28, 1913 the daughter of George and Martha (Zimmer) Nosbisch on the family farm near North Washington. She attended St. Mary's School in North Washington. Gladys worked as a house keeper for families in the area.
    On October 10, 1933 she married Martin Edward Birmingham at Immaculate Conception Church in North Washington. After their marriage the couple made their home in New Hampton before moving to their farm near Lourdes in 1951. In 1966 they moved off the farm to Cresco. Gladys worked as a nurse's aide at Cresco Hospital for 18 years. She retired to be with her grandchildren and family.
    Gladys enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking for her family. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Rosary Society and Our Evening Out Club.
    Gladys is survived by her son: Francis (Peggy) Nibaur of Elma, IA; four daughters: Joan (Dan) Cole of Kansas City, MO, Nancy Haseltine of Estes Park, CO, Ellie Birmingham of Cape Coral, FL and Diane Birmingham of Iowa City, IA; one sister: Mildred Briggs of New Hampton, IA; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her husband: Martin Edward in 1980; one daughter: Gladys; a grandson: Christian Haseltine; her parents; three brothers: Raymond Nosbisch, Harold Nosbisch and Francis Nosbisch; and a sister: Florene Murray.

    Dianne, 57, died Thursday, December 18, 2008 at her home in Cresco.
    Dianne Marie Schatz was born July 10, 1951 the daughter of Walter and Kathleen (Sharp) Marlow in Decorah, IA. She attended rural school in Winneshiek County, then graduated from North Winneshiek High School and went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree in Education from UNI in Cedar Falls, IA. She taught briefly at North Winneshiek following her schooling.
    She married John Schatz on April 6, 1974 at St. Agnes Catholic Church at Plymouth Rock in rural Cresco. Dianne left teaching to raise her family. Later she worked for Community Action as a Family Development Specialist where she worked for 20 years until she retired due to her health.
    Dianne is survived by her husband: John of Cresco; her daughter: Kaycie Schatz of Hiawatha; two sons: Christopher Schatz of New Hampton, and Jeremy Schatz and Amanda Mullinix of Riceville; her mother: Kathleen Marlow of Cresco; five brothers: Charles (Delores) Marlow of Cresco, Wayne (Karen) Marlow of Ely, Fred (Patty) Marlow of Bluffton, Walter Jr. (Faye) Marlow of Bluffton, Jeff (Dawn) Marlow of Burr Oak; and three sisters: Wanda Stanton of Minneapolis, MN, Mary Beth (Scott) Logsdon of Decorah, and Amy (Brad) McConnell of Cresco.
    She was preceded in death by Her father.


Greg Wohlsdorf, 54

    A memorial service for Greg Wohlsdorf of Cresco, IA, formerly of Big Lake, MN were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco.
    Greg, 54, died Monday, December 8, 2008 at his home.
    Greg Wohlsdorf was born September 29, 1954 in Cresco, IA. He was the second of three children born to Ronald and Kay Wohlsdorf. He grew up in Cresco and graduated from Cresco High School in 1972.
    After graduating, he attended Upper Iowa College in Fayette, IA for two years. His summers after graduation and during the college years were spent helping at the concrete block plant his Grandpa Alan Wohlsdorf owned and operated. He very much enjoyed doing this type of work and working for his grandparents.
    He then moved to Minneapolis, MN and attended the Minneapolis Institute of Arts for two years. He was an accomplished artist all through high school and college. Even though his love was art, he got a job at a car dealership in the cities. He worked as a service manager in a couple different locations for 22 years. He mostly lived in the city until moving to Monticello, MN for a while and finally to Big Lake, MN. After being laid-off because of downsizing, he took a few years off work and concentrated on his artwork. He then got a job in the restaurant at the Silver Springs Country Club in Monticello, MN where his brother Tim also worked. When the Country Club was sold, the restaurant was closed and Greg decided to move back to Cresco in May of 2008.
    Greg enjoyed hunting and target shooting, collecting guns, and painting in his leisure time.
    He is survived by his brother: Tim (Sue) Wohlsdorf of Monticello, MN and Chad (Amannda) Pemble of New Hampton, IA; his sisters: Sheri (Randy) Greenslade of Cresco, IA and Julie Pemble of Cresco, IA; his step-father: Paul Pemble of Cresco, IA; five nephews: Matt Wohlsdorf, Jake Greenslade, Jed Greenslade, Zach Wemark, Drake Wemark; one niece: Alexa Wemark; and many uncles, aunts, and cousins.
    Greg was preceded in death by his father: Ronald Wohlsdorf; his mother: Kay Pemble; his paternal grandparents: Alan and Irene Wohlsdorf; and his maternal grandparents: Armand and Edith Sutter.

    Betty I. Kammer, 80, of Cresco, IA, formerly of Oelwein, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco.
    There will be no public services as it was Betty's wish to be cremated. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

    Betty Irene Kammer was born May 21, 1928 in Torquay, England the daughter of Cyril and Evelyn (Brown) Bell. She was raised by Fred and Harriet Snell in Paignton, England.
    She met and married, at the age of 16, Robert E. Kammer during WWII when he was stationed in England while serving in the U.S. Navy. They were married in Paignton on May 14, 1945. Betty came to the United States as a war bride and lived in Michgantown, IN with Bob's family until his discharge from the service. Together they had two sons, Edward Richard and Thomas Brian. Betty devoted her life to her family as a homemaker.
    Betty is survived by her son: Thomas (Brenda) of Cresco; daughter-in-law: Tammy (Kammer) Dolan of Plymouth, MN; grandchildren: Michael Kammer of Krakow, Poland; Chase Kammer of Denison, TX; TJ Kammer of Minneaoplis, MN; Kelli Kammer of Cresco, IA; and Chelsea Kammer of Plymouth, MN; and two great-grandsons: Guy Kammer and Landon Schlangen, both of Cresco.
    Betty was preceded in death by her husband: Robert in December 1995; her son: Edward in September 1994; her parents; one sister: Laura; and two brothers: Burt and Leslie.

    On August 5, 1938, she married Maynard G. Clark at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Alice was a homemaker and also cared for residents at an area nursing home. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion and St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.
    Survivors include her children: Jerry (Renee) Clark of Lakewood, CA, Gary (Diane) Clark of Cedar Rapids, and Nancy Findlay of Marion; 10 grandchildren: Tammy (Scott) Foster, Sean (Mary) Clark, Greg (Kim) Clark, Matt Clark, Lynetta (John) Kuennen, Shawn Kelley, Susan (Jason) Thomas, Shelly (Scott) Davidson, Carrie Kelley, and Dianna (Tony) Slick; 17 great-grandchildren; and a nephew: Harold (Jan) Burgess of Cedar Rapids.

    Andrew, 86, died Monday evening, December 22, 2008 at Regional Health Services in Cresco.
    Andrew B. Tieskotter was born May 26, 1922, in Festina, IA, the son of John and Cecelia (Schneberger) Tieskotter.
    He was united in marriage to Bernadine Tillman on October 10, 1945, at St. Luke's Catholic Church in St. Lucas, IA. The couple initially farmed north of Protivin, IA. In 1964, they moved to Little Turkey and continued farming there until his death.
    He was a member of Assumption Parish in Little Turkey.
    Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Bernadine; six sons: Richard (Marlene) Tieskotter, Dennis (Kathy) Tieskotter, all of Lawler, Mark (Diane) Tieskotter of Waucoma, Roy (Nancy) Tieskotter of New Hampton, Dan Tieskotter of Harpers Ferry, Gerald Tieskotter of Lawler; three daughters: Mary (Joe) Roybal of Platteville, CO, Martha (Marvin) Andera of Cresco, Maxine (Robert) Friedman of Floyd; 24 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Vera Tierney of Cedar Falls and Marian (Juel) Knutson of New Hampton.

    Irvin, 89, died Monday, December 22, 2008 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah after a brief illness.
    Irvin K. Fosaaen was born May 29, 1919 in Dover Township, Fayette County, IA, the son of Oliver and Anna (Wolf) Fosaaen. He was baptized and confirmed in his faith at Stavanger Lutheran Church, rural Ossian. Irvin attended Dover #6 country school and graduated from Ossian High School. He worked at the Gunderson Department Store and eventually bought the business, along with two partners. After several years in the retail business, the store was closed and Irvin went to work for the Carnation Company. When the current NICC campus in Calmar was opened, Irvin became one of the first employees hired. He retired from NICC in 1986, after nearly 20 years, and began spending his summers painting houses with his partner Kermit Anfinson.
    Irvin married Marion E. Mundt on August 1, 1948 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia. Their marriage was blessed with six children. Marion died in 1982. On July 4, 1987, he married Perrine E. (Stover) Fasse at the Zion Church in Waterloo, IA. Perrine died in 1997. Irvin then wed Phyllis A. (Vrzak) Pavlovec on May 29, 1998 at the Stavanger Lutheran Church.
    Irvin was very active in the Ossian community and the Stavanger Lutheran Church congregation throughout his life. He was the Ossian City Clerk for over 25 years, was an EMT for 17 years. He was involved with the planning and building of the Ossian Community Center and current public library building. Irvin served for many years as church sexton, Sunday School Superintendent, and Luther League sponsor. He loved to sing and play the organ.
    Irvin enjoyed growing flowers, particularly roses. Irvin was very active in AA, having been involved for nearly 25 years. Irvin spent the last year of his life as a resident of the Ossian Senior Hospice.
    He is survived by his wife Phyllis of Ossian; three sons: Irvin, Jr. and wife Patty of Waukon, Stan and wife Bach of Cresco, and Randy and wife Jane of Ossian; one daughter: Sandy Schulz and husband David of Durant, IA; five step children: Mary Fasse-Shaw and husband Jeffrey of Toledo, IA, Shirley Zafft of Decorah, Dennis and Delbert Pavlovec of Calmar, and Shelley Pavlovec of Decorah; 12 grandchildren: Kris, Blake; Tess, Brooke, Nicole; Ashley, Nathan, Kendra and Oliver Fosaaen; Melissa Gesing, Sarah (Jeremiah) Costello and Mitchel Schulz; two nieces; one nephew; and eight step grandchildren.
    Preceding Irvin in death were his wives: Marion and Perrine; his parents; two daughters: Lynn at birth and Nancy in 1967; and one sister: Opal Blagoue.

    Jane Ann Timmerman was born September 8, 1940 in Spillville, IA, the daughter of Joseph V. and Louise A. (Shileny) Frana. 
    She married Duane I. Timmerman on October 17, 1959 in Spillville.
    Jane worked as the accounting manager at Weissman Steel for 27 years, retiring in 2002.
    She is survived by a daughter: Julie (Timothy) Kirkle of Cedar Falls; a son: Allan (Lorrie) Timmerman of Marion; a brother: Joseph (Char) Frana of Spillville; six grandchildren: Katie (Jim) Cory, Jason Kirkle, Kellee Kirkle, Daltyn Timmerman, Dakota Timmerman and Desirae Timmerman; and her mother-in-law: Emma Foote of Cresco.

    Doris, 84, died Saturday, December 27, 2008 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Elma, where she has made her home since March of 2006.
    Doris Eileen Grimm was born on September 22, 1924 in Bloomington, IL, the daughter of Benjamin and Alma (Anderson) Hinshaw. She grew up in Illinois, attending school in Danvers, IL, eventually graduating from Illinois State University at Bloomington, with a degree in education. Except for the war, she would not have met her husband to be. Wesley was in the service and Doris met him at a USO Club, they fell in love and on June 26, 1945 she married Wesley Haskovec in the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at Lourdes, IA. They farmed northeast of Elma, where she raised three daughters. They retired and moved into Cresco. Wesley died in 1987 and on September 16, 1989 Doris married Raphael Grimm in the Assumption Church at Cresco. Ray died in 2002.
    Doris only taught for a couple of years, but she never lost her love for children. She was a farm wife who devoted as much time as she could to many other activities. She was a 4-H leader for many years, on the board of the Farm Bureau Women, was a member of the ARC (Association for Retarded Citizens) and spent many hours every year working with the Howard County Fair. In her time at home, she enjoyed sewing and quilting.
    Surviving her are: one daughter: Karen (Hernando) Bernabe of Lindenhurst, IL; four granddaughters: Jennifer Lalk, Kristen (Tony) Sunby, Noelle (Joel) Morgan and Emily (Corey) Fauser; seven great-grandchildren: Aaron Zimmerman, Brittany Potter, Jack Fauser, Charlie Fauser, Piper Fauser, Avery Sunby and Henry Morgan.
    Doris was preceded in death by two husbands; her parents; two daughters: Denise in 1975 and Patricia Portee in 2002; one brother: Wayne Hinshaw; and one grandson-in-law: Roger Lalk.

    Charles, 92, died Friday, December 26, 2008 at the Cresco Care Center in Cresco.
    Charles B. Stevenson was born November 11, 1916 in Chatfield Twsp. Fillmore County, MN, the son of Charles A. and Ida (Anway) Stevenson. As a small boy, the family moved to Winneshiek County, Iowa, where he received his education in the rural school. Following his education, he helped many neighbors on the farm. Later, he worked at the Maple Leaf Creamery where he washed cream cans for 75 cents a day.
    On June 1, 1942, he married Alice Opat at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Lourdes, IA where he remained a member the remainder of his life. After his marriage, they farmed on a few different farms before they purchased the farm, south of Schley, that they remained on the majority of their farming lives. About 2003, they moved into Cresco to make their home. They moved into the nursing home in 2005.
    Charles was a 4-H leader for many years and was on the youth committee. He was a member of the Howard County Farm Bureau, and the ASC Township committee. He was also an active church member. He was an outdoor person who loved caring for the land. He enjoyed fishing, camping and woodworking. He made many bird houses which he gave to his family and friends. He enjoyed collecting miniature lamps, playing cards and going to dances. Most of all, he enjoyed playing with his grandchildren.
    He is survived by his wife, Alice of Cresco, IA; two sons: Larry (Deanna) Stevenson of Decorah, IA and Charles (Tammy) Stevenson of Elma, IA; three daughters: Shirley (Omer) Frank of Warrensburg, MO; Kathy (Jack) Barloon of Decorah, IA; and Mary Ellen (Tom) Vachta of Cresco, IA; 19 grandchildren: Scott Frank, Randy Frank, Steve Frank, Anne Bott, Corey Barloon, Angie Hall, Brenda Schmidtke, Brent Barloon, Megan Barloon, Cody Barloon, Derek Stevenson, Alicia Stevenson, Drew Stevenson, Andrea Steffen, Tyler LeClear Vachta, Brian Vachta, Lindsay Stevenson, Katie Stevenson, Michael Stevenson; 13 great-grandchildren: Natalie Frank, Sydney Frank, Katy Frank, Lexi Frank, Charlie Frank, Madelyn Frank, Morgan Frank, Matthew Bott, Andrew Barloon, Grace Barloon, Andre Hall, Hannah Stevenson, and Emma Stevenson; one brother: Wayne Stevenson of Decorah, IA; and a sister: Loretta Leitz of Florenceville, IA.
