Sept. 9, in Petaluma, Calif., her home for the last six years.
She was born on March 24, 1925 to Neva and Harry
Shaffner in Waterloo. She attended Charles City High School and Cornell
College in Mt. Vernon. After graduation from college, she went on to
work for the Navy department during World War II, in Washington, D.C.
She was very proud of this work and talked about it often. After coming
back from Washington, D.C., she met and married the boy next door
(actually across the street), William E. Fix Jr., in Charles City in
1947. They had four sons: Dan, Jon, Bill and Charlie.
Beverly and the family followed Bill through many
moves during his career and she made sure the home was a happy and
secure environment during this period. They finally settled back in
their hometown of Charles City, and stayed there until Bill’s death in
1997.
Beverly and her mother (who lived to be 107 years
old) then moved to Andover Minn., to be near her son Bill. During this
time, she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, a disease that
eventually left her confined to a wheelchair, but didn’t diminish her
sense of humor and enjoyment of life and family.
Beverly moved to Petaluma, Calif., in 2005 to be
near her grandchildren and other sons. She lived at The Golden Living
Nursing Facility at the time of her death.
