Gloria A. Young, 59

Gloria A. Young, 59, of Charles City, died Saturday morning, Feb. 26, 2011, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

   Funeral services for Gloria Young will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Sister M. Diana Blong, PBVM, Pastoral Associate of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City.

    Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

    Gloria Ann White was born March 4, 1951, in Charles City, the daughter of Robert and Bernice (Backer) White. She attended school in Charles City and Mason City. On July 21, 1973, she was united in marriage to Robert Young at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Her interests included camping, garage sales, Bingo and going to casinos. Gloria loved everyone’s children and at one time or another raised all of her nieces and nephews.

    Living family members include her two sons, Robert Young and Christopher Young both of Charles City; two grandchildren, Alex Young and Lakasha Hutchinson, both of Charles City; three brothers, Thomas (Kathy) White, of Nevada, Mo., Robert (Edna) White, of Floyd, and John (Elizabeth) White, of Floyd; and sister, Mary (Rick) Nauman, of Floyd.

    She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; parents; husband; sister, Theresa White.

Rick L. Fisher

  Rick L. Fisher passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, in Katy, Texas, after a long battle with diabetes. Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 28, at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Katy, Texas, with Rev. Don Smith officiating.

   Rick was born on July 13, 1957, to Gary Leon Fisher and Beverly Ann (Hurst) Fisher. He was raised in Nashua. On May 23, 1981, he married Renee Dee Peters in Charles City. Shortly thereafter they moved to Texas, where they raised their four children. Rick has resided in the Katy area for the past 24 years, where he enjoyed attending his children’s sports activities. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and archery.

    He was proceeded in death by his parents, Gary L. and Beverly A. Fisher, along with his nephew, Daniel Tobin. He is survived by his wife, Renee Fisher; children Natalie Fisher, Ashley Fisher, Travis Fisher and Lauren Fisher; his sisters, Diana (Paul) Gadeke, Dawn (Jeff) Aschoff, Deb (Jim) McNeilus and Dori (Larry) Eden; a brother, Rod (Melissa) Fisher; along with numerous loving family members and friends.

    Memorials may be sent to the family at 21663 Park York Drive, Katy, TX 77450. A Memorial Service will be held in Nashua at a date to be announced.

    Robert J. Eggert, 88, longtime Charles City Attorney, of 103 Kelly St., Charles City, died Monday morning, Feb. 28, 2011, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Tracy White, 47

NASHUA — Tracy White, 47, of Nashua died Sunday evening, Feb. 27, 2011, at his home.

    A Memorial Service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 4, at the United Methodist Church in Nashua with Pastor Okitakoyi Lundula officiating.

    Friends may greet the family 3-7 p.m. Thursday, March 3, at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

    Tracy Lee White was born April 3, 1963, the son of Gary and Mary (O'Neill) White at the Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City. He attended school in Nashua, graduating in 1981.

    On May 4, 1991, he was united in marriage to Lori Lindsley at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this union, one daughter, Jessica Rae was born on Aug. 19, 1992. The couple later divorced. Tracy worked various welding jobs throughout the years, but was most recently employed by GMT in Nashua and Waverly the past four years. He enjoyed spending his free time outdoors fishing and hunting. He also liked to sing karaoke, ride his motorcycle, driving around town with his daughter Jess and spending time with friends and family.

    Tracy is survived by his parents, Gary White and Mary White, both of Nashua; a daughter, Jessica White, of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Greg (Janet) White and Troy (Tami) White, both of Nashua; three sisters, Terri (Doug) Gibbs, of Nashua, Glenda (Kurt) Schmidt, of Ionia, and Ann (Pat) Ferch, of Nashua; along with 12 nieces and nephews, a great niece and nephew.

    He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

OSAGE — Dale E. Goodale, 72, of Osage, died Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Mary V. Lovrien, 77

    Mary V. Lovrien, 77, of Charles City, died Thursday, March 3, 2011, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

   Funeral services for Mary Lovrien will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church and Pastor Paul Phillips of the Gospel Lighthouse will officiate.

    Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City.

    Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and at the church an hour prior to the service.

    Mary Virginia White Lovrien was born April 4, 1933, at Hammond, Ind., the daughter of Donald and Mary Agnes (Hurley) White. She graduated from the Hammond High School. On Aug. 29, 1959, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Lovrien at Calumet City, Ill. Mary worked for many years as a bank teller at Hammond and Charles City. Mary was proprietor of the Living Vine Christian bookstore for seven years. Her interests included reading, playing Mah Jongg and caring for her dogs. Mary was always devoted to her family and looked forward to sharing life’s experiences with them.

    Living family members include her husband, Kenneth Lovrien of Charles City; two daughters, Becky (James) Orcutt and Marie Lovrien, both of Charles City; eight grandchildren: Jessamy, Hannah, Ashley, Jacob and Gabrielle Orcutt and Samuel, Catlyn and Cody Lovrien; two great-grandchildren, Cameron Murray and Elijah Herman; and a sister, Margaret “Peg” (Bill) Colvin of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Russell and Kevin Lovrien; and two brothers, Robert and Raymond White.

Thomas S. “Tom” Osier

   Thomas S. “Tom” Osier, 69, of Nashua, died Thursday morning, March 10, 2011, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

   Funeral services for Thomas Osier will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Sr. M.    Thomas Stanley Osier was born Feb. 28, 1942, in rural Marble Rock, the son of Gilbert A. and Bethel Irene (Lines) Osier. He graduated from the Rudd Rockford Marble Rock High School in 1959 and Americana Beauty School in Des Moines. Tom served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1966. In June of 1965, he was united in marriage to Mary Freese and they later divorced. He was an instructor at Americana Beauty School in Des Moines. In 1968, they moved to Charles City where he owned and operated Salon Osier until 1978. Tom then was employed as a car salesman for Bissonnette Chevrolet and Bob Elthon Ford. In 1994, he was united in marriage to Linda (Wilson) McCumber in Las Vegas, Nev. His interests included golf, fishing, camping and bowling.

   Living family members include his wife, Linda Osier of Nashua, two children, Michelle (Tony) Kreimeyer of Greene and Russ (Vicki) Osier of Austin, Minn.; two step-sons, Mark (Rhonda) Mc-Cumber of New Hampton and Shawn McCumber of Killian, Texas; seven grandchildren, Madison and Laura Kreimeyer, Drew Osier, Gatlin and Abby McCumber and Zach and Brandon Mc-Cumber; one brother, Marty (Donna) Osier of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Nancy (Beryl) Richards of Aredale and Jeanette (Roger) Ruegnitz of Waukon; mother-in-law, Marlys Howe of Charles City; and many nieces and nephews.

   He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; parents; and a nephew, Alex Ruegnitz.

Jack F. McClain

Jack F. McClain, 83, of Charles City, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011, in Anaheim, Calif.

Funeral services for Jack McClain will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Debra Lincoln of the Colwell United Church of Christ and Jordan River will officiate. Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Promise City Cemetery, Promise City. Pastor Linda Reida of the Seymour United Methodist Church will officiate.

Jack Floyd McClain was born September 14, 1927, in Decatur County, the son of Everett F. and Hada Etta (Landrum) McClain. From Aug. 30, 1945, to Aug.t 13, 1946, he served in the U.S. Navy. In 1947, he was united in marriage to Norma Lee McMurry in Promise City. Norma Lee died on Feb. 9, 1950. He later married Donna Head and they later divorced. On Aug/ 11, 1993, he was united in marriage to Sheilah Dedrickson in Rapid City, S.D. In 1978, after leasing to various trucking companies over the years, Jack applied for and received his own authority to own and operate his own truck. He was a member of the NRA, EAA and OOIDA. His interests included motorcycling, going to Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Oshkosh Air Show, flying, keeping in touch with friends, feeding wild animals, raising miniature donkeys and goats; mentoring young men and spoiling his step-grandchildren.

Living family members include his wife, Sheilah McClain, of Charles City; two daughters, Patty (Mark) Roman, of Tel Aviv, Israel and Bonnie (Ralph) Stein, of Dallas, Texas; two step-sons, Sean (Leah) Dedrickson, of Manitou Springs, Colo., and Christopher Dedrickson (Angela Finholt), of Lakeland, Minn.; two grandchildren, Maya Roman and Alexandra Stein; five step-grandchildren, Kelly and Ian Dedrickson, Samantha Dedrickson and Andrea and Tony Finholt; three sisters, Ann Clubb, of Washington, Mich., Grace McClain, of Sunrise, Fla. and Lucille “Dickie” Bartlett, of Seymour; brother, Charles McClain, of Promise City; two sisters-in-law, Ethelyn McClain, of Des Moines, and Velma McClain Evans, of Promise City; many nieces and nephews and devoted traveling companion, Sammy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma Lee; son, Dale McClain; sister, Mary Louise Millikin; four brothers, two in infancy, Billy and Bobby and Nate and Dean McClain.

Florence Barbara Christine Hanson

GREENE — Funeral services for Florence Hanson, 92, of Greene, will be 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at the United Methodist Church, Greene, with Pastor Ashok Patet officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, March 15, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 519 N. First St., Greene with a Scripture Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services on Wednesday.

Florence Barbara Christine Litterer was born Feb. 22, 1919, in Nashua, Chickasaw County, a daughter of William and Mary (Wagner) Litterer and died Saturday, March 12, 2011, at the Liebe Care Center in Greene.

Bernice Bohning

BELMOND — Bernice Bohning, 95, of Belmond, passed away Saturday March 12, 2011, at Cedar Health in Charles City.

Funeral services for Bernice Bohning will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 17, at the United Methodist Church in Belmond. Pastor Mike Druhl will officiate. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be held today from 4-6 p.m. at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond, and will continue one hour prior to to the services at the church on Thursday. The family suggests that memorials be made to the United Methodist Church and/or Hospice of New Hampton.

Bernice was born May 2, 1915, on an 80-acre farm in Wright County, three and one-half miles west of Belmond. She was the youngest of five children, one of whom died in infancy, born to Frank J. and Cora (Harvey) Davenport. Bernice, and her three older siblings, Ammon, Beatrice and Bernard, attended country school together. She graduated from Belmond High School in 1933. Bernice married Edward Alfred Bohning, son of Simon and Carrie (Steenblock) Bohning, on Feb. 11, 1934, in Belmond, where they raised their family of three girls, Nyle, Karen and Alta.

Bernice spent the first years of their marriage raising her family and helping with farm. In 1955, she went to work at Hensel Bros., working in the office and candling eggs. After spending several years at this job, she decided to try something different and began working as a nurse’s aide at the Belmond Community Hospital, a position which she held for approximately seven years. Around 1966, she began working as a bookkeeper for the Belmond Chevrolet Garage. Her job as bookkeeper for the garage was a dream come true. She enjoyed this job so much that retiring was difficult. She retired in 1990 at 75 years young. Bernice became very fond of the owners of the garage, Joe and Steve McLaughlin and continued to make goodies for the garage’s coffee break every Friday for many years.

Bernice enjoyed cooking, reading, playing cards, using the computer, and spending time with her family.

Her husband Ed had a heart attack at the age of 60, after which they moved into town. In 1981 they, along with thirteen other individuals, built a privately owned condo addition to the retirement home. Bernice lost her husband Jan. 31, 1996, from complications of hip surgery.

Bernice is survived by her three daughters, Nyle (Bradley) Jenison, of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., Karen (Don) Kusian, of Belmond and Alta (Randall) Barkema, of Charles City. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Nyla (Paul) Schaefer, of Belmond; Kevin (MaryAnn) Jenison, of Florida, Brad Jenison, of Florida, Donita (Roger) Anders, of Marshalltown, Tami Kusian, of West DesMoines, Kim (Perri) Draisey, of Keota, Todd (Renee) Barkema, of Monticello, and Kevin (Gayle) Barkema, of Conrad; as well as 17 greatgrandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, one sister and one great-grandchild, Zachary Draisey.

Bernice had a young spirit, great sense of humor and is loved by all of her family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jerry L. Wilson

Jerry L. Wilson, 69, a resident of Siren, Wis., and formerly of Charles City, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2011, at his home.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 19, at 11 a.m. at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City, with Pastor Gary Van Wert officiating. Music will be provided by Karen Thomas and Jeannine Mills. A visitation will be held Friday, March 18, from 5-8 p.m. and again from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City. Casketbearers will be Bill Koehler, Andrew Lydolph, Josh Hillegas, Eric Koehler, Troy Koehler and Jamey Koehler.

Jerry was born on July 26, 1941, in Charles City to Glenn and Arlene (Barrett) Wilson. He was a 1960 graduate from Charles City High School. He worked at White Farm Equipment for many years before retiring in 1973 due to an automobile accident. On July 19, 1969, he married Elaine Koehler of Charles City at the West St. Charles United Methodist Church in rural Charles City.

Jerry was a previous member of the West St. Charles United Methodist Church and an active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Webster, Wis. He filled many duties at church, including trustee, and helped when the funeral committees served. He was also a member of the Webster Lions.

Jerry was a caring person who loved being with his family and enjoyed his visits from all four of his granddaughters. He enjoyed the 13 years he lived in Siren at his lake home. He took pride in his lawn, as it was always top priority and very well cared for. Jerry enjoyed feeding the birds and liked to fish on his friend’s private lake. He was able to get out and experience deer hunting one year and thoroughly enjoyed it. Jerry was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Green Bay Packers. He enjoyed having coffee with his friends on Monday mornings. He had taken cruise ship trips with his family and friends, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and sister Betty.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Elaine, of Siren, Wis.; a daughter, Wendy (Matt) Ross, of Charles City; four granddaughters: Erica (Andrew) Lydolph, of Stockport, Danielle (Josh Hillegas, fiance) Ross, of Charles City, Sam Ross and Sydney Ross, of Charles City; three great-grandchildren: Brendyn and Haylay Lydolph and Kaitlyn Ross; a brother, Robert (Frances) Wilson; and a brother-inlaw, Arvin Tibbitts.

Ralph H. Willert

ROCKFORD — Ralph H. Willert, 94, of 1820 230th St. in Rockford, died Wednesday evening, March 16, 2011, at his home.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, March 19, at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Roseville. Officiating will be the Monsignor Walter Brunkan. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt, Charles City. A scripture service will be held at 4 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. Interment will be in Roseville Cemetery. Condolences and messages may be shared with the family at www.Fullertonfh.com.

Ralph Henry was born one of three sons to Henry Louis and Minnie Augusta (Brandenburg) Willert on June 20, 1916. Surrounded by his family, Ralph passed away at home on the family farm where he was born and raised. Ralph graduated from the Rockford High School in 1935. He continued on the farm working hard all of his life. He loved raising his Angus cattle and tending to the farmstead, always keeping it immaculate. He joined the membership of St. Mary’s Catholic church when he was united in marriage to Thelma C. Staudt on Feb. 16, 1944, at St. Mary’s. He rarely, if ever missed masses and continued that tradition almost to the time of his death. He also drove his car up until January of this year. Ralph honorably served his country for a short time until he received a medical discharge. Ralph received several awards for his work on the farm and with various farming groups. In 1986, Ralph received an award for being the first farmer in Floyd County to raise 200+ bushel corn. He was a member of the Iowa Cattleman’s Association and served on the Floyd County Board. Thelma and he very much enjoyed raising the family of two boys, and being with the six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In the early years he and Thelma would attend dances at the Moose and Elks Lodges in Charles City where they were members. On Sunday’s after church they looked forward to going to the old mall in Charles City where they could visit with family and friends. Ralph was a sports fan and enjoyed watching basketball and being a Vikings Fan.

His surviving family members include his two sons and their wives, David R. (Janice) and Dennis R. (Janet) Willert, all of Rockford; six grandchildren: Annette Willert, of Wisconsin, Gina (Travis) Schumacher, of New Hampton, Kristin (James) Whaley, of Lake Geneva, Wis., and Rick, Cassandra and Derek Willert, all of Rockford; four great-grandchildren: Alex and Rylee Schumacher, Hannah Johnson, and Lily Grace Whaley; and two nieces, Colleen (Joe) Hellige, of California, and Mary Pat (Ron) Dulle, of Colorado.

His wife, who died June 19, 1996, parents and two brothers, Arthur and Robert Willert, preceded Ralph in death.

OSAGE — Richard R. Sonberg, 77, of Osage, died Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at the Faith Home in Osage.

ROCKFORD — Lorna O. Stern, 90, of 211 Seventh St. NE, Rockford died Thursday, March 17, 2011, with her family at her side, at the Nora Springs Care Center, Nora Springs, where she was a resident for only a week.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, March 21, 2011 at Zion Lutheran Church, 805 East Main, Rockford. Officiating will be the Pastors Alan Schultz and Patricia Shaw. Lorna Otillia was born the fourth child of Sanford and Ida (Williamson) Carlson on Jan. 27, 1921, on the family farm near Blooming Prairie, Minn.. She was baptized and confirmed at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, rural Austin. She attended country school, graduating from the 8th grade. She was united in marriage to Warren Stern on July 3, 1938, in Cresco. They farmed in various locations in Minnesota including Taopi, LeRoy, and Adams. Warren and Lorna moved their family to Iowa when he was employed at the Oliver Farm Equipment Company in Charles City. They lived first near Elma, then rural Rockford, and moved into Rockford in 1948.

Lorna helped with the work on the farm, including milking cows and raising chickens. For many years she raised a vegetable garden and enjoyed canning and freezing the produce. She loved flowers and will be remembered for her “green thumb.” When the children were older she worked outside the home. She was a cook at the Rockford school, worked at the Rockford Brick and Tile Company, and was a seamstress for the Mode O’Day clothing factory in Mason City. For many years Warren and Lorna enjoyed spending their summers fishing on Mille Lacs Lake in Minnesota. A favorite trip for them was in 1962 when they traveled by train to Tacoma, Wash., to visit Diane and Timm while he was in the Army. For the last twelve years of Warren’s life she cared for him at home.

She was very talented with the crochet hook and knitting needles. Family members have many afghans, doilies and other items to cherish. She also made lovely doilies with beads, many things with plastic canvas, and hats and purses out of beverage cans. Lorna was very proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and had a special place on her living room wall with many pictures of them. She was looking forward to the birth of her great-great-granddaughter in June.

Surviving Lorna are her three children: Leona and her husband Morris Parcher, Dale and his wife Janet Stern, and Diane and her husband Lyle “Timm” Marker, all of Rockford; seven grandchilden: Leona and Morris’ children Kenneth (Rebecca) Parcher, of Northwood; Paul (Kara) Parcher, of Rockford; David (Joan) Parcher, of Navarre, Fla.; Karen (Jason) Moss, of Council Bluffs; and Diane and Timm’s children Leon (Vicky) Marker, of Rockford, Troy Marker and fiancée Chira, of Centerville; and Craig Marker, of Nora Springs; 15 great-grandchildren: Christopher (Sabrina) Parcher, Matthew, Lauren, Ethan, Leigh and Shaun Parcher, Kyle, Austin, and Benjamin Moss, and Cory, Curtis, Garrett, Sadye, Dylan and Calen Marker. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Emily Carlson, Lois Carlson, Marlene and her husband Stan Radunz; brothers-in-law Eldred (Butch) Mayzlik, Donald Stern, George Ulrick, Sr., and special friends Fred and Margaret Schultz, of Mason City, and Donavon and Juanita Schuster, of Des Moines.

Lorna was preceded in death by her husband Warren in 1995, parents, three sisters Ruth Bos, Iola Harrington, Donna Mae Mayzlik, three brothers Sylvester, Palmer, and Roger Carlson, and one great-great-granddaughter Elora Grace Parcher.

Nancy loved her animals and never turned away a stray. She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. Darlene J. Jacob, 83, of Osage Beach, Mo., formerly of Melbourne, Iowa, passed away, Friday, March 18, 2011.

She will be missed by her four children: Carl (Susan) Jacob, of Charles City, Terry (Julie) Jacob, of Osage Beach, Mo., Glenda (Kevin) Cornelius, of Bellevue, and Kevin (Lisa Wells) Jacob, of Des Moines; eight grandchildren: Jennifer Jacob, Leah (Jon) Beeman, Abby (Matthew) Kaschmitter, Aimee Abbott, Jacob Cornelius, Jason Cornelius, Zachery Jacob and Matthew Jacob; twin great-granddaughters, Kenzie and Avery Kaschmitter; one brother, Roscoe (Romona) Milleson, of Colorado; and two sisters, Irma Plate, of Ventura, Calif., and Betty (Bill ) Fink, of Tucson, Ariz.

Vivian Decker Quam

Vivian Decker Quam, 78, of Northwood, formerly of Floyd and Nashua, died Saturday, March 19, 2011, at Heritage Care Center in Mason City.

Funeral services for Vivian Quam will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood. Pastor Karen Grandall will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City.

Vivian Nelda Ida Kalke Decker Quam was born Jan. 19, 1933, in Floyd County, the daughter of Milo and Viola (Kamin) Kalke. She graduated from Floyd High School. Vivian also attended North Iowa Area Community College and Iowa State University for income tax courses. On Sept. 9, 1950, she was united in marriage to Lloyd Decker at Austin, Minn. Lloyd died on Oct. 1, 1994. Vivian married Gaylen Quam on May 4, 1996 at Northwood. For many years Vivian was a tax consultant in Charles City and then at Northwood. She thoroughly enjoyed meeting people and working with numbers and math. Vivian was a member of the First Lutheran Church. Her interests included reading, sewing and canning. She sewed over 500 quilt tops for Lutheran World Relief. Vivian also enjoyed singing in the past with the choir at Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd and was the soloist for many weddings at the Little Brown Church. She will always be remembered for her love of others and sharing life’s experiences with them.

Living family members include her husband, Gaylen Quam, of Northwood; a daughter, Joy (Tom) Krieger, of Nashua; three sons: Michael Decker, of Sanborn, Russell (Wendy) Decker, of Osage, and Gene Quam, of Northwood; seven grandchildren: Jennifer Foote, Jesse Krieger, Luke Decker, Matthew Decker, Justin Kadner, Josh Decker and Trevor Decker; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Nona Smith of Dike; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Lloyd.

MASON CITY – Margaret C. Djuren, 96, of Mason City, died Saturday, March 19, 2011, at Heritage Care and Rehabilitation Center. Margaret was born Nov. 29, 1914, the daughter of Chester and Alice (Harris) Hill. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1932. She was united in marriage to Harm A. Djuren on Sept. 27, 1936, in Charles City, and to this union came three children: Janice, Beverly and Gordon. Margaret was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the Church Circle — Wesley Golden Age. When she wasn’t being a farmer’s wife, she was busy working at the Dime Store in Clear Lake or cooking in Hanlontown, Joyce and Manly. She loved to dance and bowl, and will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew her.

Margaret is survived by two daughters, Janice (Milton) Kuhlers of Stewart, Fla., Beverly (Eldon) Olesen, of Charles City; son, Gordon Djuren, of Mason City; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and another on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Roger Hill, and an infant brother; daughter in-law, Sharon Djuren.

Archie A. Ingersoll, 96, formerly of 616 Eighth Ave., Charles City, peacefully passed away Saturday night, March 19, 2011.

Archie Alan was born on July 22, 1914, in rural Floyd, the youngest son of Robert Maurice and Effie May (Childs) Ingersoll. He attended rural schools and then graduated from Floyd High School in 1933, unusual at the time. He farmed for a few years and then worked in the foundry at Oliver/White Farm for 25 years until retiring in 1976. He very much enjoyed woodworking and fixing everything mechanical in his shop. Archie was a bike rider many years before RAGBRAI was ever thought of and continued riding his bike until age 91. On June 17, 1945, he was united in marriage to Mildred Turner in Osage. They made their home in Charles City on Eighth Street after raising their children in rural Floyd. He was great with kids and was everybody’s “Archie Grandpa.” He always was taking kids fishing and camping and greatly enjoyed the social aspect. While farming one of his great pleasures was working with his horses. Archie looked forward to the family reunions and volunteering with the kids at the “Y.” He was active in his church and its bible school program. He also enjoyed music and was a self-taught harmonica player.

He is survived by one sister; Jeanne Ingersoll, of Phoenix, Ariz.; two of his children, Russell and his wife, Tedi Ingersoll, of Weirton, W.Va., and Sandra Dugan and her husband, Mike, of Charles City; eight grandchildren, Candice and Tadd Ingersoll, Crystal Hinders, Kimmy Dugan, Kathi Guenther, Bryan and Linda Zimmerman and Laurie Labounty; 14 great-grandchildren, Larissa, Kaylin, Ryan, Jennie, and Megan Ingersoll, Alex Riley and Matt Meyer, Dawson and Owen Hinders, Morgan and Landon Guenther, Nathan Zimmerman, and Taylor and Regan Labounty.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred, on Jan. 15, 1995; one child in infancy; daughter, Lois Zimmerman; sisters, Georgiana Ross and Dorothy Goecken; two brothers, Maurice and Lewis Ingersoll and a great-granddaughter, Angel Hinders..

Dennis Ray Tolliver

Dennis Ray Tolliver, 51, of Smartsville, Calif. was born March 25, 1959, in Charles City and passed away March 9, 2011.

He graduated from New Hampton High School in 1977 and joined the Air Force at age 17. After leaving the Air Force, he continued his civilian career at Norton Air Force Base, Calif., before transferring to Beale AFB in 1991 where up until his death he served as Director of Maintenance —9th Civil Engineering Squadron.

On his birthday in 1985 he married his beloved wife Virginia (Ginny) Tolliver at Calico Ghost Town in Barstow, Calif.

Dennis loved his family, especially his grandchildren, who along with everyone else, loved him very much. He was an avid golfer and loved working at Beale with his fellow “Rhinos.” He was a very generous man and never hesitated to lend a helping hand.

Dennis is survived by his wife Virginia Tolliver, of Smartsville; his daughter Denelle (Bruce) Gonnerman; grandchildren, Ashton and Malea; step-father Walter Kobliska; sisters, Sheryl (Chris) Ostlund, Marge (Brian) Loes, Denise (Darren) Streich; and several nieces and nephews and his Uncle Pudge (Nancy) Springer, all of Iowa.

He was preceded in Death by his parents Virgil Tolliver and Norma Tolliver Kobliska, nephew Jason Loes, niece Bridget Loes.

A celebration of Life will be conducted Tuesday, March 15, at 10 a.m., Beale AFB Community Center, Military Honors, Beale AFB Honor Guard. Arrangement and Interment under the direction of Ullrey Memorial Chapel, Yuba City.

NASHUA — Pauline D. Shultz, 82, of Nashua, died Friday, March 18, 2011, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 22, at the United Methodist Church, Nashua. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Nashua.

She received her education in Nashua graduating from the Nashua High School in 1947. On Oct. 26, 1947, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, she married Dean Francis Shultz. To this union four children were born. The couple farmed together from the time they were married until 1995 when they retired and moved to Charles City. Dean died on April 1, 2000, at the age of 74. She was a member of the Eastern Star, the Moose Lodge, the Help-a-Neighbor Club, the Chat-A-Bit Woman’s Club and the Farm Bureau. Pauline was a devoted and loving mother who actively participated in her children’s lives. She adored her grandchildren and was instrumental in their young lives and was most proud of their accomplishments. Pauline was an excellent baker, making the best bread and cinnamon rolls around. She had enjoyed playing cards, gardening, sewing, re-finishing furniture, and when Dean was alive, the couple loved dancing and fishing together.

Survivors include one son, William (Bobbie) Shultz, of Charles City; three daughters: Susan (Ralph) Snyder, of Deer Trail, Colo., Dee (David) Albers, of Littleton, Colo., and Marilyn (Jim) Larimore, of Grand Forks, N.D.; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Stuart Demro (Mary Ellen), of Nashua, and William (Darlene) Demro, of Osage; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Demro, of Nashua. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Ronald Demro; sister, Marian Maulsby.

Robert J. “Bob” Murray

Robert J. “Bob” Murray, 81, of Charles City, died Thursday, March 24, 2011, at Cedar Health in Charles City.

A funeral Mass for Robert Murray will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Reverend Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City.

Robert James Murray was born Sept. 13, 1929, in Charles City, the son of Austin and Estella (Kehoe) Murray. He graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy. In 1951, he served in the United States Navy. On Nov. 19, 1955, he was united in marriage to Jo Ellen Marron in Waucoma. Bob farmed all of his life from the age of 16 and also was a salesman for Pioneer Seed Corn for 19 years. Over the years, he was a board member of the Floyd County Pork Producers, Northeast Iowa Research Farm, YMCA, Immaculate Conception Parish Council and local cooperative. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge and a volunteer with the Charles City Fire Department. Bob had a passion for farming, car shopping and spending time with his family. He also loved driving the SAG wagon for RAGBRAI for 10-plus years. Bob and Jo Ellen enjoyed wintering in Phoenix, Ariz., for 15 years where they met many new friends.

Living family members include his wife of 55 years, Jo Ellen Murray, of Charles City; six children, Rick (Bette) Murray, of Floyd, Jeannie (Jerry) Parker, of Cedar Rapids, Jeff (Lori) Murray, of Charles City, Kevin Murray, of Johnston, Craig (Sherrie) Murray, of Olathe, Kans. and Jennifer (Andy) Girkin, of Urbandale; 16 grandchildren; four great grandchildren: and a brother, Jim Murray, of Charles City.

Lydia C. Tietz

Lydia C. Tietz, 91, of Charles City, formerly of Nashua died Sunday March 27, 2011, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday March 30, at St. John Hill United Church of Christ — Pleasant Hill in rural Nashua with Pastor Charles Dorsey officiating. Special music selections include “Rock of Ages,” “The Old Rugged Cross,” and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.” Interment will be in the church cemetery immediately following the service. Lydia Clara Tietz was born Sept. 20, 1919, in Metzingen, Germany the daughter of Christian and Marie (Maier) Heiligmann. In 1923, the family moved to the United States. She grew up in rural Tripoli and attended country schools. In 1934, she was confirmed at the Tripoli United Church of Christ. On Sept. 16, 1978, Lydia was united in marriage to William Tietz at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Readlyn.

Lydia worked for over seven years in housekeeping at Allen Hospital. She was a crew foreman for 20 years de-tasseling seed corn. She taught 18 years of Sunday School for St. Matthew’s. She loved animals, playing cards, and flowers. Lydia was a lifelong member of the VFW Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, William; one son, Ivan (Carolyn) Jager, of LaPorte City; three step-sons, Christopher Tietz, of Charles City, George Tietz, of George, and Gerald (Carrie) Tietz, of Nashua; two brothers-in-law, LeRoy (Virginia) Tietz, of Charles City, and Thomas Tietz of California; five sisters-in-law, Betty (Don) Taylor, of Swaledale, Annamay (Bill) Henry, of South Carolina, Erma Henry, of California, Lois (Dave) Julseth, of Kinsett, and Mary Margaret Vosburgh, of Mason City; three grandchildren, Mike (Joy) Jager, of Ryan, and Haley Tietz and Benjamin Tietz both, of Fredericksburg; two great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Lucille E. Arends, 93, a resident of Port Charles in Charles City and formerly of Cedar Falls, died Monday, March 28, 2011, at Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 2, at the First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls. Pastor Brad Braley will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Cedar Falls. The family suggests that memorials be directed to First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls, the Lucille Arends Memorial Fund in care of the family, or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Lucille was born Dec. 21, 1917, to Thomas L. and Hazel M. (Johnson) Handsaker in Colo. She graduated from Cedar Falls High School. Lucille married Henry Grant Arends Dec. 20, 1944, at the First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls. To this union, two daughters were born, Lennette and Cynthia. Lucille spent most of her life in Cedar Falls, with the exception of the time Grant was in the service. She was a homemaker and a devoted and loving mother and grandmother.

Lucille enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, canning, doing embroidery work, quilting and attending her granddaughters’ activities. While living in Cedar Falls, she was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and was recently recognized as being a member for 80 years.

She is survived by two daughters, Lennette (Mike) Perigo, of Hot Springs, Ark., and Cynthia (Rick) Noah, of Charles City; along with four grandchildren: Breanna Hennessy, of Bozeman, Mont., Noelle Noah, of West Lebanon, N.H., Erica Noah, of Minneapolis, Minn., and Kelsey Noah, of St. Cloud, Minn.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Grant, on Feb. 29, 2004; her parents; step-father Clarence Showers; and two sisters, Waneta Behrens and Lois Grimstad.
