Hillena, was born on July 25, 1906 in German Valley, Illinois, the daughter of Anno and Jennie (Aldrich) Terhark. She lived in the Belmond area most of her life.

She married Mike Kurtz on October 18, 1927 and he was killed in the Belmond tornado in 1966.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; three sisters; and eight brothers.

Organist was Dona Cleveland. Casket bearers were Daryl, Peter, Scott and Phillip Bohning, Ken Hawley and Don Kusian.

Luella was born on July 27, 1907 on her parents farm near Wedrow, Illinois, the daughter of William and Fedelia (Hile) Rabey. When she was four the family moved to a farm near Belmond. Luella attended rural schools and the Belmond High School, graduating in 1924. She taught in rural schools near Belmond for five years.

On June 23, 1930, she married Peter S. Bohning at the Little Brown Church at Nashua and they made their home on a farm near Belmond. They had three children, Shirley, Daryl and Donald. They moved to Belmond in December 1963.

In addition to helping her husband on the farm, Luella was a life long homemaker. She enjoyed traveling, reading, and playing games. Her family was the thing she cherished the most. Luella loved to visit with her friends and always kept in contact with others through cards and letters.

She was a long time member of the Belmond United Methodist Church, the Belmond Grandmothers Club and the Rebecca Circle.

After her husband's death in 1970, she continued to live on her own until becoming a resident of the care center in July 2000.

Luella was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Donald Bohning (lost at sea); grandson, Joel Boreeson; sisters, Loretta and Della Mae; and brothers, Delbert, Howard and Clarence.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 8, at the Untied Methodist Church, with Rev. Michael Druhl officiating. Music was provided by Lyn Courson, organist and Marilyn Janssen, soloist. Interment was in the Lincoln Township Cemetery near Zearing, Iowa. Casket bearers were Mark Dorr, Todd Anderson, Kevin Anderson, Scott Anderson, Jerry Bailey and Morris Larson.

Harriet Delilah Bucy, was born on January 9, 1912, at her parents home in Hubbard, the daughter of Isaac and Lillian (Clancy) Bucy. She graduated from the Hubbard High School. She later attended Iowa State College (University) for one year.

Delilah married Enlow "Ben" Bailey on December 3, 1932, at her parents home. They lived in Des Moines, 12 years in Fort Dodge and 12 years in Marathon before moving to Belmond, where they lived for 40 years.

Delilah and her husband enjoyed the many activities of their children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star at Marathon and the PEO in Belmond. She and her husband were long time members of the Belmond United Methodist Church where Delilah was active in the UMW.

She loved to play bridge, enjoyed reading and was an excellent cook. Delilah and Ben enjoyed traveling. They had been to Mexico on several occasions and to Europe. Following Ben's retirement, they spent nearly 20 years wintering in Kissee Mills, Missouri.

Recently Delilah lived for periods of time with both of her daughters and then for the past 2 1/2 years at the care center in Leon.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband of 67 years; and brother, Dr. Paul C. and Evelyn Bucy.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 11, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond, with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. Burial was in the St. Francis Cemetery near Belmond.

Merle was born on October 2, 1926 in Carroll, the son of William and Reeka (Prill) Janssen. The family lived in Glidden until 1942, when they moved to a farm north of Goodell. Merle graduated from the Belmond High School in 1945. In 1950 he was drafted into the Army and served during the Korean Conflict.

In 1951, he married Joan Marie Lowenberg. To this union seven sons and two daughters were born.

After his discharge from service, Merle started farming with his father, Bill and brother, Roy. In 1960 he farmed on his own. In 1970 he started Merle Janssen and Sons Chester Whites. The family raised purebred Chester White hogs for over 25 years. Merle loved to attend the Iowa State Fair every year and show hogs with his family and friends. He had great pride in all of his children and enjoyed watching their sporting events and other activities.

In February of 2001, Merle received medals in recognition of his service in Korea. After cancer surgery in September of 2001 he entered the Belmond Care Center.

Merle was President of the Hancock Health Improvement Association, a 4-H Leader, served on the Klemme Elevator Board, and was a 50 year member of the Goodell American Legion.

Preceding Merle in death were infant daughter, Diana Marie; parents, William and Reeka Janssen; and brother, Roy.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, November 12, at the Bethany Reformed Church in Belmond, with Rev. Herm Gruis officiating. Burial will be in the Immanuel Reformed Cemetery.

Otto, the son of Conrad and Dora (Meinders) Vestweber, was born on April 4, 1913 in Wright County.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son; sisters, Elizabeth, Anna, Alvina and Dorothea; and brothers, John, Conrad, Bill and Curt.

Elizabeth, the daughter of Gabriel and Anna Marie Sunde Gabrielson, was born on September 17, 1910, on the Gunderson Place near Goodell. She attended school in Goodell. Elizabeth was baptized and confirmed at the St Olaf Lutheran Church. When older, she helped her parents raise her brothers and sisters.

Liz married George Waddington on August 17, 1935 in Garner. They made their home in Belmond. She worked at Kessler Pharmacy, as a cook at the Belmond Schools, and as a housewife and mother. George died in 1966. In 1977 Liz moved to the McBurney Apartments in Belmond.

She enjoyed cards, word puzzles, bowling, and reading newspapers and magazines. Family was most important to her. Liz was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. She belonged to the firemen's auxiliary, Grandmothers Club and bridge club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, Don in 1998; sisters, Burley and Ruth; and brothers, Tolford, Elmer and Norman.

Albia Elizabeth, the daughter of Joseph and Ann (Urdil) Chalupnik, was born on April 3, 1903 at Traer, Iowa. She lived in Jackson, Minnesota for a short time before her family returned to Iowa when she was nine years old. As a young adult she worked for the telephone company in Mason City.

She married Edmund Tracy on October 16, 1923 in Mason City. The couple moved to Belmond where Edmund was a rural postal carrier.

Albia devoted herself to raising their four children and worked part time as a grocery clerk. After retiring, the couple enjoyed traveling. They lived in Clear Lake as well as California and Arizona. After Ed became ill they returned to Mason City where Albia cared for him for fifteen years until his death.

Albia was an active volunteer for R.S.V.P. She enjoyed crocheting and had crocheted over one thousand caps for school children.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers; and four sisters.

Inger was born on January 20, 1917 in Audubon County, Iowa. She married Emil Noelck on March 15, 1941.

Interment was in the Amsterdam Cemetery near Goodell, with full military honors. Honorary bearers were Lenny Wiemann, Roman Johnson, Leon Wiemann, Jim Fosnaugh and Larry Marrell. Casket bearers were Marlin Smith, Arlen Olson, Tim Anderson, Roger Wiemann, Mike Uhlenhopp and Douglas Hanson.

Harlan, the son of Elmer and Esther (Harberts) Anderson, was born on November 18, 1934, on the family farm near Goodell. He served in the United States Army and the Army Reserve from November 1957 until January 1963.

Harlan married Loretta Jane Foss, on November 18, 1961 at Miami, Oklahoma. Their children included two daughters and a son who died at the age of two.

In early years Harlan farmed with his parents. He later did custom combining and corn shelling throughout the area and in other states. He was employed at Westaby Trucking for 11 years and worked for the D.O.T. for 7 1/2 years before an accident forced his retirement in 1984.

Harlan served on the Alexander City Council for a number of years. He was a member of the Alexander Fire Department for more than 20 years and served as a trustee. He could often be found doing maintenance work, making sure that all the department's equipment was functioning properly. Harlan would often be seen cruising about town on one of the his Honda scooters.

Harlan enjoyed visiting his family and friends, was an avid croquet player, especially with his grandchildren, enjoyed dancing, looked forward to winter trips to Branson, liked gardening and camping, he regularly attended the antique tractor show north of Belmond, he liked going to chuck wagon races and he had several antique John Deere tractors and mowers. His family will remember him for having a positive attitude even in retirement due to his accident and then throughout his battle with cancer.

Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Brian; sister, Elaine; brother, Howard; and father-in-law, Roy Foss.

George was born in Clarion on September 29, 1946, the son of Willard and Grace (Cook) Sharp. He graduated from the Clarion High School in 1964 and married Dianne Smith at Red Oak in 1968. He was an industrial arts teacher in Belmond for one year. He also taught at S.E. Polk, Boone and DMACC.

Ken was born on April 19, 1945 in Iowa Falls, to Truman and Doris (Rhodes) Skrovig. He grew up on a farm north of Dows. At the age of 14, he moved to town with his family. He was confirmed in 1958 at the First Lutheran Church in Dows. He graduated from the Dows High School in 1963 and then worked at a hardware store in Dows.

In 1965, he enlisted in the U.S. Army for a two year tour, serving one year in Bomberg, Germany. After his discharge he began employment at the Wright County R.E.C. (Prairie Energy) as a groundsman. He retired after 34 years as operations engineer.

In June 1968, he married Sharon Cummings of Belmond. They had three daughters, Cyndi, Myndi and Lyndi. After retirement they spent two winters in Florida.

Ken was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Clarion where he was a past church council member, Dows American Legion where he was a past Third District Commander, Clarmond Country Club and the Lions Club. Ken loved his Norwegian heritage, the Iowa Hawkeyes, camping and was an avid golfer.

Preceding him in death were his father; grandparents, Emma and Iver Skrovig and Ada and Wayne Rhodes; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Dillon.

Shawn, the son of Jerry McNamara and Marilyn Ellerbeck, was born on September 4, 1959 in Waverly. He graduated from the Waverly-Shell Rock High School in 1978. He attended CSUS in Sacramento, California and received a Computer Science Degree.

Shawn married Deborah Kristine Krabbe, on August 13, 1983. The couple made their home in Granite Bay where Shawn was the owner of Enterprise Technology Solutions, a computer consulting firm.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Herluf Krabbe.
