Ruth Brandmeyer

Ruth Nau Brandmeyer, 85, died on Friday, August 1, 2003, at
the Bethany Manor in Story
City.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 9, at the Elliott Chapel in New London, with
burial in the Long Creek Cemetery in Danville.
Ruth was born on February 16, 1918 in Burlington, the
daughter of Cleaver and Cliffie Windland Nau. She graduated from the Danville
High School and attended Iowa Wesleyan College. She was married to A. V.
Brandmeyer for 25 years.
Ruth worked as a Librarian in Belmond, with student
housing at Luther and Simpson Colleges, and for Cargill in Des Moines.
Survivors include her sons, Stan (Vivian) of Boone, Randy (Jacquie)
of Cotati, California and Blair (Cyndi) of Story City; and sisters,
Georgiana Young of New London and Gerry Boland of Williamsburg.

Kevin Kreitlow

Kevin K. Kreitlow, 37, of Boone, formerly of Dows, died on Saturday, August 9, 2003, at
the
Cavanaugh House Hospice Unit in Des Moines.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 13, at the
First Lutheran Church in Dows, with burial in the North Lawn Memory Garden Cemetery
near Iowa Falls.
Kevin, the son of Kenneth and Judy Bonin Kreitlow, was
born on July 6, 1966 in Clarion. He attended school in Dows, where he spent
most of his adult life. Kevin also lived in Kirbyville, Missouri for four
years.
He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Ida Bonin
and Rhonda Krietlow; and his grandfather, Kenneth Krietlow, Sr.
Kevin is survived by his parents, Judy Krietlow of
Kirbyville, Missouri and Kenneth Kreitlow, Jr. of Moberly, Missouri;
daughters, Stacie Krietlow of Hampton and Amber Kreitlow of Eagle Grove;
sons, Kenneth Kreitlow, III of Eagle Grove and Brandon Kreitlow of Boone;
sisters, Kristy (Robert) Hainline of Gilbert, Arizona, Kimberley Abele and
Denise Abele both of Seattle, Washington; brothers, Kurtis (Shelly) Krietlow
of Ankeny and Kory (Amie) Krietlow of Kirbyville, Missouri; and maternal
grandparents, Otto and Beverly Bonin of Dows.

Anna Draves
August 14, 2003
Anna Schnell Draves, 79, of Madrid, formerly of Rowan, died
on Sunday, August 10, 2003,
at the Madrid Health Care Center.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 13, at
the Immanuel Lutheran Church
west of Rowan, with burial in the Graceland Cemetery near Rowan.
Anna, the daughter of G. Henry and Kathryn Margaret Schoenemann Schnell, was born
on February 7, 1924 in Minatare, Nebraska. She
graduated from the Scottsbluff High School.
On February 3, 1945, she married Anton Draves in
Oakland, California. Following Anton's discharge from the service, they
returned to the Williams area where they farmed. The couple later moved to
Webster City and then retired to Rowan in 1977. Anna moved to the Madrid
Care Center in June of 2001.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents; husband; ten
sisters; and two brothers.
Anna is survived by her daughters, Pauline (Rex) Hall of
Madrid, Thelma (Darwin) Adams of Thompson and Lorraine (Steve) Bates of
Sigourney; grandsons, Shane (Lorell) Bailey of Rowan, Darrin (Tricia) Adams
of Emmetsburg, Devere Adams of Thomson and Kyle Bates of Sigourney; and three
sisters, Molly Wamboldt of Nebraska, Clara Drake of Utah and Pauline Siembab of California.

Donna Knoll
August 21, 2003
Donna V. Knoll, 80, of Belmond, died on Monday, August 11, 2003, at the Belmond Medical
Center in Belmond.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, August 14, at the St.
Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Belmond, with Father David Beckman and
Deacon Nick Schmit officiating. Interment was in the St. Francis Cemetery.
Music was provided by Janyce Kluss, organist, David Whitty, Cantor and Shane Whitty, Cantor. Eucharistic
Ministers were Bernie
Barrett, Steve McLaughlin, Hugh Kopriva and Art Lamoureux. Lector was James
Houser. Altar servers were Michael and Matthew Just. Ushers were Dr. Art Benetti and Earl Kalkwarf.
Casket bearers were Mike Knoll, Paul Knoll, Kevin
Knoll, John Knoll, Jim Knoll, Dennis Knoll and Matt Knoll. Honorary bearers
were Dr. Albert Kollasch, Dr. Arthur and Veronica Benetti, Jack and Mary Ann
Spitler, Jim and Betty Clare Houser, and Deb and DuWayne Abel.
Donna, daughter of George and Evelyn Gray, was born
on
December 18, 1922, on the family farm in rural Hancock County. She was an
active member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters and
the Rosary Society.
Donna was united in marriage to Lynn "Chappie" Knoll in
September of 1942. They had 14 children, seven sons and seven daughters. Her
life was dedicated to her family and making a home for her children. She was
a substitute in the Belmond School District for 17 years.
In 1962, Lynn and Donna built and operated Lynn's Supper
Club. They retired in 1980. Donna enjoyed golf, music, bridge, and working
crossword puzzles when she wasn't spending time with her children and
grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband in
December 1997; two sisters; three brothers; four grandchildren; and one
great-grandchild.
Survivors include her children, Michael (Claudia) Knoll of
Ossining, New York, James (Kathy) Knoll of Corpus Christi, Texas, Mary (the
late Michael) Luick of Belmond, Paul Knoll of Anaheim, California, John (Roylene)
Knoll of Belmond, Dennis (June) Knoll of Catlin, Illinois, Kathryn (Bill)
Cahill of Danville, Illinois, Patrice (David) Whitty of Lancaster,
Wisconsin, Jeannie (Pat) McWhorter of Beeville, Texas, Kevin (Deb) Knoll of
Belmond, Elizabeth (Bernard) Barrett of Belmond, Angela (Dennis) Olson of
Belmond, Sherrie (Brad) Kunecke of Atchison, Kansas and Matthew (Kim) Knoll of
Wesley; 55 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ardys, Mary,
Rita, Romona and Joan; and brothers, Paul and Jerry.

Cleo Miller

Cleo M. Miller, 97, formerly of Rowan, died on Thursday, August 21, 2003, at
the Franklin
General Hospital in Hampton.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 23, at the United
Church of Rowan, with burial at the North Lawn Memorial Garden near Iowa
Falls.
Cleo Marguerite, the daughter of William and Nettie
Walker Duffy, was born on July 2, 1906, on a farm near Rowan. She graduated from
the
Rowan Consolidated Schools. She taught country school for six years.
She
married Virgil Miller on June 4, 1930 and they farmed. After Virgil's death
in 1960, Cleo worked in Fairbault, Minnesota. She returned to Rowan to
retire.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son,
John; daughter, Marilyn Ziesman; and sisters, Susan Hammond and Mildred
Ketchum.
She is survived by her sons, Donald (Sylvia) Miller of
Albuquerque, New Mexico and Marlin (Delores) of Coalinga, California;
daughter, Kathy (Del) Muhlenbruch of Dows; sisters, Dolly Barnes of Long
Lane, Missouri and Betty (Don) Severson of Jewell; and brother, Robert
(Wilma) Duffy of Iowa Falls.

Bill Schermer, Sr.
August 26, 2003
William George Schermer, Sr., 75, of Latimer, died on
Saturday, August 23, 2003, at the
hospital in Hampton.
He was born on February 11, 1928 in rural Latimer, the son
of Johannes Christoph Edward and Anna Katherine (Schmitt) Schermer. He grew
up in Latimer and was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he was a
member of several committees.
William was very active in the cattle business. He
testified at hearings in Washington, D.C. and worked with Iowa State
University. He was a Past President of the Iowa Cattlemen's Association and
the Franklin County Beef Producers, a member of the board of the National
Cattlemen's Association, and was very active with 4-H and the Franklin
County Fair.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters,
Viola and Edna.
Survivors include his wife, Lenore of Latimer;
daughter, Connie (Ivan) Pingel of Latimer; sons, William G. Jr. (Nancy)
Schermer of Clarion and Bradley (KaRene) Schermer of Latimer; and brother,
Edward of Latimer.

Harold Johnston

Harold F. Johnston, 50, died on Monday, August 25, 2003, at his home in Goodell.
Graveside services were held on Thursday, August 28, at the Graceland Cemetery near
Rowan. Arrangements were handled by the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in
Belmond.
Harold was born on July 18, 1953, the son of Wallace and
Ellen (Suntken) Johnston. He attended schools in the Belmond area. He
married Leilani Aldrich in 1996 in Garner and they lived in Goodell where he
was a truck driver.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Matt Johnston of Iowa
Falls and Alex Johnston at home in Goodell; daughter, Annie Bachman;
step-sons, Colin (Tara) Steenhard of Belmond and Casey Steenhard of
Pensacola, Florida; his parents of Belmond; sister, Lanae (Mike) Walrod of
Latimer; and brother, Clarence Johnston of Clarion.

Marion Martin

Marion J. Martin, 64, of Belmond, died on Friday, August 29, 2003.
Funeral services were held at
10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, September 3, at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Belmond, with
Father David Beckman and Deacon Nick Schmit officiating. Burial was in the
St. Francis Cemetery.
Marion was born on June 20, 1939 in Indianapolis Indiana,
the daughter of Albert E. and Dorothy S. Martin. Because her cerebral palsy
required special education, Marion attended the St. Mary's School in Nauvoo,
Illinois, Franklin Special Education School in Ames, Iowa, and the St. Mary's of
Providence School in Chicago, Illinois. She continued working toward her
high school equivalency degree in Belmond.
Marion took pride in her various employment
opportunities. She worked at the Mary Greeley Medical Center and the Head Start
program in Ames, and at St. Francis in Belmond. She volunteered at the
Belmond Public Library, Luick Memorial Pool, Belmond Health Care Center,
Hospice, Walk for the Cure, and the St. Francis Church.
Marion enjoyed traveling abroad with her parents and on
local trips with family and friends, and she enjoyed sharing her photos of
these events. She attended afternoon gatherings at the Leinbach Center. Her
hobbies included reading, embroidery, playing cards and tending flowers.
With the support of her parents, friends and community,
Marion was able to have her own apartment and to independently participate
in many Belmond area activities. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters
of America and the St. Francis Xavier Rosary Society. Marion participated in
the Special Olympics.
Preceding her in death were her mother and brother,
James.
Survivors include her father, Albert of Belmond;
sisters, Jane (Schuyler) Van Gorden and Linda (Wade) Clark; sister-in-law,
Sharon Martin, and many nieces and nephews.

Bert Hemmen

Bert Hemmen, 83, died on Sunday, August 31, 2003, at the Maple Manor in Aplington, Iowa.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 3, at the First Reformed Church in Bristow, with
burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery near Bristow.
Bert, the son of Harm and Gezien Rops Hemmen, was born
on
November 16, 1919 in rural Aplington, where he attended school. He married Neescha Jungling in November 1942 in Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Army
during WW II. Following his discharge he farmed.
He was preceded in death by his wife; five brothers; a
sister; and a son-in-law.
Survivors include his four daughters, including Nancy
(Randy) Rogers of Belmond; a brother; and a sister.
