Organist will be JoAn Skyrme, accompanying a duet by Marge Osier and Karen Smith. Ushers will be Josh Riedel and Al Hansen. Casket bearers will be Tom Osier, Tony Osier, Dave Osier, Nick Smith, Walt Osier and Sam Osier. Honorary casket bearers will be Mike Smith, Bob Ketchum, Dan Ketchum, Mick Ketchum, Craig Williams, Jay Sturgis and Bern Ketchum.

Vey Ketchum, was born on October 7, 1904, on a farm in Lincoln Township, near Galt, the daughter of Herbert Pence and Francis Frizzell Ketchum. She attended Wright County area country schools and graduated from the Rowan High School in Rowan in 1924. She then attended Teacher's School in Iowa Falls.

Vey had also done some child care for the Gade family from Iowa Falls. Following her education at teaching school, she spent periods of time teaching country schools in Montana and Iowa prior to her marriage.

Vey was united in marriage to F. E. Frank Osier on June 15, 1931, at Council Bluffs and to this union two sons were born, Jerry and Ed.

Vey attended beauty school in Ottumwa in 1957 and later commenced her career as a beautician. She was a beauty operator in Fairfield. Vey moved back to Rowan in 1959 following her divorce. She owned and operated her own beauty shop in her home at Rowan for many years until retiring in 1976.

Vey had been very active throughout her entire life. During her school years, she enjoyed playing basketball. She loved to sing and play the piano. She had sung solo and in the choir. She was very much a people person who looked forward to entertaining friends and family. Vey loved her family and grandchildren. She had adopted many of the youth in Rowan and was known to many as "Grandma Vey".

She was a member of the United Church of Rowan, the Progress Club, and the Canasta Card Club. Vey enjoyed traveling and had been to many places in Europe, Ireland, Hawaii, and throughout the U.S.

Vey enjoyed sewing, making pillows, doilies, table cloths, and quilts for others. She loved to play games and cards with family and friends. At age 98, Vey was still driving and was very proud of her independence.

Preceding her in death were her parents; seven brothers and two sisters; one great-grandson, Brett Daniel Osier.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, March 7, at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Belmond, with Father David Beckman officiating. Burial will be in the St. Francis Cemetery near Belmond.

Josephine Louise, was born on November 11, 1909 in Hubbard, to Chas. and Grace Ann Brown Mossman. She was the third of seven children. In 1910 the family moved to Iowa Falls and in 1920 to Rowan. Josephine graduated from the Rowan High School in 1927.

She married James Mariga on September 25, 1928, at the St. John's Catholic Church in Clarion. To this union two children were born, James E. and Barbara. In 1938 the family moved to Belmond. Jo enjoyed playing bridge and golf.

Jim and Jo were members of the St. Francis Xavier Church in Belmond since 1938, where both have been active over the years.

Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband (July 2002); three brothers; and one sister.

Music was provided by Carol Severson, organist and Andrea Christians, soloist. Ushers were Clifford Toft and Alfred Johnson. Casket bearers were John Haugen, Joe Haugen, Laura Haugen, Jim Haugen, Ila Haugen and Scott Severson. Honorary bearers were the St. Olaf Ladies Altar Guild members.

Lillian Eldora Haugen, the daughter of John and Christina (Pederson) Haugen, was born on September 1, 1913, and baptized and confirmed at Plaza, North Dakota. Lillian attended the Hiddenwood Rural Schools in Makoti, North Dakota.

In 1929, she moved to Belmond and was employed doing general housekeeping. She later worked for many years at McBride's Bakery.

Lillian married Sanford Severson on December 30, 1935 in Northwood. The couple farmed in the Belmond area until 1976 when they moved into town. Lillian was known for her friendly smile and quiet, compassionate personality. She was a member of the St. Olaf Lutheran Church, where she had taught Sunday School, had been an advisor for Luther League for a number of years, held offices in W.E.L.C.A., and was a member of the Altar Guild. She had been a volunteer at the Belmond Health Care Center.

Lillian and Sanford enjoyed traveling and had been on many trips to Seattle, Hawaii, Norway, and many other places. She had been a resident of the care center since January 1999.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Olga Haugland, Borghild Geldaker and Jennie Shelly; and brothers, Chester, Trygve, Harold, and Clifford.

Jean was born on January 12, 1925, in Smith Center, Kansas, the daughter of William and Elsie Pierce. Her mother died shortly after her birth, and at the age of 10 days she was adopted by John and Ada McCarty who were neighbors of the family. She graduated from the Smith Center High School in 1942 and began nurse's training at the Christ Hospital School of Nursing in Topeka. During nurse's training she was a member of the Navy Nurse Corps. She later earned a Bachelors Degree in Health Care Administration from Ottawa University. She was married to Rex Tucker in 1945. They were divorced in 1970.

Jean worked for the state of Kansas for 10 years, evaluating hospitals and skilled nursing homes for relicensure. In 1974, she moved to the Kansas City area to work for the federal government as a Special Agent for the Department of Investigation, evaluating claims of Medicare and Medicaid fraud. She retired in 1988 and returned to Topeka in 1997. She was a member of the St. David's Episcopal Church in Topeka.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Pricilla Tucker.

Frances, daughter of Henry and Marguerite (Johnson) Severson, was born on December 9, 1909 near Kanawha. She married Ardo Anderson on December 17, 1929.

Music was provided by the United Church of Christ choir and organist, Carol Severson. Ushers were Louis Mennenga and Lynn Sorum. Honorary casket bearers were Saima Hyppa, Lirlene Bamford, Frances Mennenga, Mildred Lewellyn, Emma Thompsen and Vi Townsend. Casket bearers were Neal Hinman, Jason Miltenberger, Jeff Hinman, Anthony Hinman, Chad Hinman and Eric Lantz.

Hazel Tegland, was born on October 23, 1915, on her parents farm near Clarion, the daughter of Otto and Rachel (Hefte) Tegland. She attended rural schools. Following the eighth grade she moved into Clarion where she worked as a domestic housekeeper and lived with the families she worked for while attending high school. Following high school, Hazel worked for a time in Clarion and Eagle Grove before moving to Ogden, Utah. While in Ogden she was employed as a secretary with Arden Dairy.

Hazel returned to Iowa and married Stephen Neal Hinman on June 17, 1945, at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Belmond. They made their home and farmed west of Belmond until retiring in 1977.

Following retirement the couple continued to make their home on the farm. Hazel's energy and devotion was always directed to her family and the farm. Hazel and Stephen were active throughout their lives. They were involved in the church serving as secretary and treasurer for several terms. They sang in the church choir and Hazel was active in the Women's Church Fellowship. She continued her membership in the St. Olaf Lutheran Ladies Aid. She belonged to the Kensington Club and was a long time member of a neighborhood ladies birthday club.

Hazel and Stephen enjoyed playing cards in the pinochle club and looked forward to their daily games of cribbage. They enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and Canada. Their adventures began in earlier years in a renovated school bus camper and later in a motor home. She enjoyed fishing trips with her husband and family. Hazel was an avid Minnesota Twins and Iowa State Cyclones fan. She had been to many games and followed her teams on television.

Hazel cherished family gatherings and will be missed for her cooking skills and specialties such as kringla, lefse, and other Norwegian treats. Her family will remember her for being meticulous in all that she did, whether housework or creating a fantastic needlework or crocheted afghans.

Stephen died in March 2000. She continued to live on the farm until moving to the care center in September 2002. While at the care center she enjoyed many of the residents and activities and especially looked forward to playing bingo.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; brothers, Oren, Elmer, Leslie and Paul; and sisters, Caroline Anderson and Olive Ruth Cook.

Frederick Julius was born on March 15, 1917 at Dows, the son of William and Emma (Lenz) Rockow. He attended country school near Klemme and Garner.

He married Fannie Kardoes at the home of her parents near Buffalo Center in 1941. The couple made their home near Galt, where Fred both farmed and drove truck.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and brother, Harold.

Music was provided by Maxine Whitty, organist and Marilyn Janssen, soloist. Honorary casket bearers were Duane Thompson, Don Gemberling, Rich Wagoner, Homer French, Bob Berns and Verl DeNio.

Paul was born on April 12, 1927, on his parents farm in rural Wright County, the son of Vern M. (Mike) and Violet Ida (Starnes) Trees. He graduated from the Belmond High School in 1945 and served in the United States Army. Later he returned to Belmond where he was employed at Tudor Garage and Implement and began farming on the home place. Paul raised livestock, including pigs, poultry and peacocks.

Paul married Marjorie Estella Wigg, on July 30, 1948 at Clear Lake. He was a dedicated farmer and an avid outdoorsman whose passion was fishing. Paul, Marj, their family, and friends took many fishing excursions, including trips to Canada during late summer. They spent many years wintering at their home in Kissee Mills, Missouri.

Paul had a great love for his Vizsala hunting dogs. In later years he could be seen on his skid loader, shotgun in hand, hunting pheasants while the dogs worked the fields for him. He looked forward to hosting family and neighborhood fish fries and hog roasts.

He loved to do woodworking and build things. He built the family home on the farm, did the cabinetry, and built a farrowing house and other outbuildings. Paul had been very active with the Belmond Boy Scout program and had served in various leadership roles. He was a past member of the Odd Fellows and belonged to the Rowan American Legion. His family will cherish memories of his wonderful stories and humor and think of him when they are fishing or listening to a WHO talk radio and the farm market updates.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Terry Trees in 1964; and mother-in-law, Estella Hanson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, April 2, at the First Lutheran Church in Clarion. Interment will be at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, April 4, in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Ardell and Florence Hopkey of Belmond; and brothers, Dallas and Dennis.

Ethel Mildred, was born on May 10, 1913 in Des Moines, the daughter of Arthur and Emma Ludeke Schoenwetter. She graduated from the Klemme High School.

She married Herman Meyer in 1933 in Galena, Illinois and they farmed west of Klemme for 51 years. Ethel lived on the farm until 1994, when she moved to Garner. She entered the care center in 2002.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1984; and son, Alvin in 1990.
