Gary M. Duffy

RICEVILLE - Gary M. Duffy, 65, Riceville, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at his home.

There will be no visitation and there may be services held at a later date. His cremains will be buried in Riceville Cemetery in Riceville. Conway Funeral Home in Riceville is in charge of arrangements Gary Martin Duffy was born on Aug. 10, 1939, in Receive, the son of Charles M. and Goldie (Martin) Duffy. He attended Riceville schools and after his father took the four younger children with him to California, he finished his education. Gary returned to Riceville and entered the Army on June 29, 1962, in Des Moines. He spent a little over two years overseas, stationed in Germany, where he was united in marriage to Ursula Ronstadt, a German girl. They were later divorced.

Gary was discharged on June 17, 1965, and returned to Riceville to live. Gary spent the remainder of his working life as a trucker, an occupation he learned while in the service. He loved to play pool and cards.

Gary is survived by one daughter, Ursula Wightman, of Salem, Wisc.; one granddaughter, Nicole Wightman, of Salem; one brother, LeRoy (Lorraine) Duffy, of Charles City; and two sisters, Donna McFarland, of Willard, Wisc. And Dorothy Sanchez, of Freemont, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Robert; and one sister, Patricia Ruiz.

Gertrude M. Byrne

ROCKFORD, Iowa - Gertrude M. Byrne, 71, of 226 9th St. SE, Rockford died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City, with Deacon Michael Byrne officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Saturday. Cremation has taken place with Cremation Services of North Iowa, Mason City. Gertrude Marie Byrne was born May 17, 1933 in Lynn Center, Ill., the daughter of Harold and Elvera (Sundvall) Seabloom. She attended school in Illinois. On October 8, 1966 Gertrude was united in marriage to James Melton Byrne in Moline, IL. The couple had lived in Orion, Ill., and Charles City before making their home in Rockford on October 8, 1968. Following the couple's marriage, Gertrude was employed as a nurse's aide with the Glen Oak Nursing Home in Coal Valley, Ill. She had also worked various jobs until retiring.

Gertrude was a devoted wife and homemaker she took great pride in nurturing her children and grandchildren. She was faithful in celebrating all holidays with her family, especially Christmas the day had great meaning to her because it is also her son Jim's birthday. Gertrude will be best remembered as an independent and strong-willed woman. She was family oriented, enjoyed talking on the phone and was a very social person. Some of Gertrude's interests and leisure activities included crocheting ripple afghans which she tailored and crafted for family and friends. She enjoyed solving word search puzzles, fishing on the Shell-Rock River, listening to a variety of music from country and western to contemporary classical and watching all sports especially golf and girls' basketball. Gertrude will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Those grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in Getrude's life are her children, Roxanne Byrne of Rockford; Jim Byrne of Rockford; her six grandchildren, Joshua, Jill, Stephanie, Jimmy, Jessica and Kolton; a brother, Maynard Seabloom of Gelva, Ill., and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends left to cherish her memory.

Gertrude is preceded in death by her husband, James Melton Byrne on July 26, 1969; her parents and one sister, Juanita Wilson.

Raymond Siems

CLARKSVILLE - Raymond Siems, 79, of the Shell Rock Care Center in Shell Rock, Iowa, and formerly of Clarksville, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at the Waverly Municipal Hospital from natural causes.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 3, at the Immanuel United Church of Christ, with burial in the Lynwood Cemetery, both of Clarksville.

Anna F. Brinkman

GREENE - Funeral services for Anna F. Brinkman, 82, of 310 Greene Street, Greene, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6, 2004 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene, with Pastor Gary Hatcher officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene.

Visitation was held from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Greene, where a public Scripture Service was held at 4 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church Monday one hour before services.

Anna F. Litterer was born September 17, 1922, in rural Riverton Township, Floyd County, a daughter of Fred and A. Marie Scheidecker, and died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at Liebe Care Center in Greene..

She was baptized October 15, 1922 at her parent's home, and confirmed on May 9, 1937, at St. John Evangelical, Pleasant Hill, rural Nashua. She received her education and graduated from the Greene High School in 1942. She received her teaching certificate from the Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls.

On Sept. 6, 1943, she was united in marriage to Francis Lyle Brinkman at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Anna accompanied her husband to the various military locations where he was stationed during World War II. Following his discharge they returned to Greene where they started farming on the Crabapple farm, remaining there until 1968 when they moved into their new home in town.

Anna and Francis enjoyed ten winters in Mercedes, Texas. Her interests included puzzles, card games, gardening, and canning. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, whose paramount concern was the needs of her family. She was a very humble lady that provided deep inner strength for her loved ones.

She was a faithful member of St. Peter Lutheran Church where she served on the Altar Guild, taught Sunday School, and was a member of WELCA.

She will be sadly missed by her daughter: Sue Wheat of Greene; three sons: Gale Lee (Mary K.) Brinkman, Joe Francis (Sue) Brinkman all of Greene, Mark Henry (Carla) Brinkman of Williamsburg, nine grandchildren: Erin Brinkman and her Fiance', Steve Mulder, John (Lindsay) Brinkman, Becky (Tim) Newton, Rachelle and Mary Wheat, Megan, Lindsay, Nathan, and Alison Brinkman; one great grandchild: Derek Brinkman; two sisters-in-law Vera Litterer of Charles City, Mabel Litterer of Greene, one brother-in-law: Bernard Horn of Nashua.

Anna leaves to join her husband Francis who died May 20, 2004, an infant son in 1945, a daughter: Kay F. Brinkman in 1949; one grandson: Allan Wheat in 1976; her parents, one sister: Eva Horn; and two brothers: Leonard Litterer and Louis Litterer.

Dora H. Uker

ROCKFORD - Dora H. Uker, 88, a resident of the Nora Springs Care Center and formerly of 405 3rd Ave. NW in Rockford, died Thursday evening, December 2, 2004, at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, 205 1st Ave. NW in Rockford with Rev. Kenneth Kent officiating. Inurnment will be in Westside Cemetery, rural Marble Rock.The family will greet friends and relatives from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at Fullerton Funeral Home, 302 W Main Ave. in Rockford. Visitation will continue at the church, one hour prior to Dora's service.

William H. Eickhoff

BASSET - William H. Eickhoff, 82, of Bassett, died Thursday, Dec. 02, 2004, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home of natural causes.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in New Hampton with Reverend Gary Olson, chaplain at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home officiating. Edith Kolthoff will be the organist and will accompany those in attendance singing "The Old Rugged Cross," "In The Garden," & "Softly and Tenderly." Soloist, Hannah Epley will sing "On Eagles Wings.".BASSET - William H. Eickhoff, 82, of Bassett, died Thursday, Dec. 02, 2004, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home of natural causes.

Inurnment with Military Honors will be in the Willow Lawn Cemetery in Plainfield, Iowa. Honorary pall bearers will be Tami Massman, Cleo Mack, Jennifer Newman, Adam Eickhoff, Meghan Bates, Jacob Price, Brenda Haubrich, Erin Price-Smith, Tara Hill, Caleb Bates, Rebecca Groshens, Alex Mack, Cody Massman, Zachary Hill, Taylor Martins, and Chase Martins.

William Henry Eickhoff was born Sept. 26, 1922, near Frederika, Iowa, the son of William J. & Bertha (Schroeder) Eickhoff. He attended country school near his family's home. Following his schooling he farm for a short time with his family until he enlisted in the U.S. Army on December 14, 1942. He served during WWII in the 101st Airborne Division. On Jan. 28, 1946 he was honorably discharged. After returning from the service William resided in Chicago for a brief time before moving to Plainfield.

While living in Plainfield, William met Beula Ziehe and the couple was united in marriage on December 31, 1946, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Following their marriage the couple resided in Plainfield for 11 years, and later moving to an acreage three miles east and three miles south for another 11 years. The couple then moved to New Hampton where they resided for three years before moving to a farm in Bassett in 1966 where he was currently residing. Besides farming William also operated Eickhoff Lines, a trucking company he operated out of Bassett.

He enjoyed his family, children, grandchildren, and brothers and sisters. William also enjoyed fishing, traveling, horses, and in his younger years he enjoyed singing and performing.

William is survived by his six daughters Monica Eickhoff of Decorah, Judith Jordan of Plainview, Minn., Linda (Jim) Price of Helena, Mont., Wynette (Jim) Hill of Shell Rock, Kathy (Jerry) Groshens of Plymouth, Hope Eickhoff of Shell Rock; a son Tom (Peggy) Eickhoff of Charles City; a son-in-law Olu Martins of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a brother Gene Eickhoff of Sumner; two sisters Dorothy Swain and Barbara Frost both of Missouri; 15 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Beula (Dec. 25, 2001), a daughter Pam Martins, two sisters Ruth Ziehe and Chrystel Vorwald, two brothers Karl Eickhoff and Robert Eickhoff.


Mikel E. Sassman

Mikel E. Sassman, 38, of Fredericksburg died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton, of an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg with Pastor Ronnie Koch officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg.

Family and friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at the hugeback and Chenoweth Funeral Home in Fredericksburg.


Peter May

NASHUA - Peter May, 43, of Nashua, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4-8 p.m. Monday. There will be a Prayer Service held Monday at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Eernisee Funeral Home, 171 North Royal Ave., Belgium, Wisc., with visitation from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in St. Mary's Parish Cemetery, Lake Church, Wis.

Peter Robert May was born Sept. 25, 1961, in Belgium, WI, the son of Dick and Regina (Ries) May. He graduated from Cedar Grove High School, Cedar Grove, WI. On Nov. 23, 1991, he was united in marriage to Sandra Knapp of Mequon, Wisc. in Cedarburg, Wisc. In 1992, Peter and Sandy moved to Charles City where Peter was employed by Cambrex Chemical in Charles City. Peter enjoyed golfing, traveling and above all was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.

Peter will be sadly missed by his wife, Sandy of Nashua; two stepsons, Tony Knapp of Charles City, and Bruce Knapp of Grafton, WI; brothers and sisters, Bill (Diane) May and Mike May (Phil Grasty) all of Cedar Grove, WI, Noreen (Ken) Wall of Owosso, MI, Marge (Terry) Steinert of Charles City; a sister-in- law, Debbie (Jim) Hill of Mayville, Wisc., a brother-in-law, John (Patti) Liss of Grafton, WI; mother-in-law, Theresa Cyra of Germantown, Wisc.; many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Badger.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; numerous aunts and uncles and Max.

LaVonne A. Lines

MARBLE ROCK, Iowa - Funeral services for LaVonne A. Lines, 79, 2530 Hickory Avenue, Marble Rock, will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, at the United Methodist Church, Marble Rock, with Pastor Kenneth Kent officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Marble Rock.

Visitation will be at the church today one hour before services.

LaVonne Arline Daughenbaugh was born Aug. 14, 1925, in Charles City, Floyd County, a daughter of Seigel Calvin and Hazel Dora (Davis) Daughenbaugh, and died Friday, December 3, 2004, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

From an early age on, LaVonne was raised by her grandparents, Calvin and Bertha (Strawn) Daughenbauch in Charles City. During her junior year in high school she moved to live with her father at Elk River, Minn. In 1944, she graduated from Polaris North High School in St. Paul.

On April 10, 1949, she was united in marriage to Merland Cletus Lines at the United Methodist Church, Marble Rock. They farmed in rural Marble Rock and to this union were five children. Following Merland's death on Feb. 8, 2001, she continued to live on the farm until her recent illness.

LaVonne was a devoted wife and mother, tending to the needs of her husband and children, she exemplified the true meaning of love. She loved and cherished her family and the special friends that she came to know through out her life's travels. LaVonne enjoyed being a mother and grandmother, more than anything else. She loved children of all ages, but was especially fond of babies. She also enjoyed the cats at the farm.

Her interests included keeping up on what was going on by reading newspapers, and keeping in touch with family and friends. LaVonne was a member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was a charter member of the Hi Neighbor Club and was instrumental in naming the club.

LaVonne will be sadly missed by her children: two daughters: Joyce (Rick) Hana-Osterman of Lake Mills and Debra Lines of Leland; one son, Bruce Lines, of Minneapolis, and two grandchildren: Craig David Hanna and Kayla Marie Hanna.

She was preceded in death by two sons: Craig in 1970, Juhl in 1994; her husband and parents.

Raymond Siems

CLARKSVILLE, Iowa - Raymond Siems, age 79, of Clarksville, Iowa, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at the Waverly Health Care Center in Waverly, Iowa, from natural causes.

Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at the Immanuel United Church of Christ, Clarksville, Iowa. Interment was in Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville, with Military Rites provided by Clarksville AMVETS Post #30.

The Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Clarksville, (319) 278-4245, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.


Harry M. Batty

VENICE, Fla. - Harry M. Batty, 90, formerly of Rockford, Iowa, died October 18, 2004. He was born August 30, 1914, in Spencer, Neb., to Stella and Harry C. Batty, and moved to Venice, Fla., in 1987.

Living family members include his children: James of Black Hawk, S.D., Jo Ellen Batty-George of Minneapolis, Minn., Susan Hay of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Barbara Alexander and Thomas, both of San Anselmo, Calif. There are also five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Harry was preceded in death by his wives, Clara and Margaret; his parents; and a brother, T. Edward Batty.

A memorial service will be held in Rockford at a later date.


John Kraft

DIXON, Mo. - John M. Kraft, 61, a native of Chickasaw County and the father of Rudy Kraft of Ionia, died Nov. 26, 2004, at his residence near Dixon.

A funeral service was held Nov. 30, in the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Graveside services and interment were held Dec. 2 at the Greenwood Cemetery in Nashua.

ELMA - John E. "Ed" Beecher, 86, of Elma, died Monday, December 6, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton of natural causes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 am Saturday, at Immaculate Conception Church in Elma. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery also in Elma. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Friday at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in Elma where there will be a 4 p.m. Knights of Columbus Rosary and 7 p.m. Scripture Service. Visitation will also be from 8:30-10 a.m. at the funeral home Saturday.

John Edward Beecher was born December 1, 1918, in Dougherty, the son of John Francis & Luella (McCabe) Beecher. At an early age he moved with his family to a farm three miles east of Elma. He attended Immaculate Conception Academy in Elma, graduating in 1935, and furthered his education at Loras College. After returning from Loras College, Ed began farming with his father on their farm east of Elma.

On February 3, 1941, he was united in marriage to Peggy Kobliska at the Immaculate Conception Church in Elma. Following their marriage the couple resided on the Beecher family farm east of Elma, where they farmed and Ed worked as an auctioneer with his father and later by himself conducting auctions for farm sales, household sales and also at the Charles City and Cresco Sale Barns, until their retirement. They remained on the farm until July 19, 1994, when a tornado took their home and they moved to Elma.

In his younger years, Ed enjoyed Ballroom dancing, playing baseball, softball, and basketball with the Elma town teams, and bowling. After his retirement he enjoyed golfing, and playing cards in various establishments in the area. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4144 in Elma, the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Davis Assembly, and the Immaculate Conception Church in Elma. He also served as a board member for the Howard County ASCS.

Throughout the years on the farm Ed was John Deere through and through.

Ed is survived by his wife of 63 years Peggy; 7 children Sharon (Jim) Gansen of Elma, Lindy (Wendy) Beecher of Eagan, Minn., Pat (Wayne) Arnold of Elma, Betty Jo (Jack) Hastings of Alta Vista, Mary (Bill) Roths of New Hampton, Marcia (Greig) Grimm of Charles City, June (Arnie) Laures of Waukon; 23 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 2 brothers W. Louis (Gert) Beecher of Waterloo and Bernard (Mary) Beecher of Waterloo; 3 sisters Ronnie (Lee) Riley of Charles City, Mary Jane (Carl) Richmond of Painesville, Minn., and Luann Hutchins of Charles City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Gerald in infancy, and a grandson Jason.

MaryLou Thompson

MaryLou Thompson, age 51, of Charles City, died Friday, December 10, 2004, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 13, 2004, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage. Inurnment will be at the Brownville Cemetery in Brownville, Iowa, at a later date. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. before services at the funeral home on Monday.

Sister Mary Dianne Michels

DUBUQUE - Sister Mary Dianne Michels, PBVM, 67, died on Monday, December 13, 2004, at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque.

Services will be held Thursday at 10 am at Mt. Loretto, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Key West. Friends may call from 2 pm to 8 pm Wednesday at Mt. Loretto, where there will be a wake service at 7:00 p.m. The Egelhof Siegert Casper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.Sister Dianne was born in Stanley, Iowa, on May 7, 1937, the daughter of Andrew and Mathilda (Federspeil) Michels. She entered the Sisters of the Presentation in September of 1957 and professed her perpetual vows on August 22, 1965.

She attended Mount Mercy College and did undergraduate work at Clarke and Loras Colleges in Dubuque. She received her graduate degree from WSU-Platteville Wisc., and studied a summer in Europe through the National College of Education, Evanston IL.

Her teaching career spanning 45 years took her to Humboldt, Mason City, Charles City, all in Iowa, and Resurrection and St. Columbkille's schools in Dubuque. In addition to teaching, Sister Dianne was an elementary and middle school principal for 26 years. She retired to Mt. Loretto Motherhouse in 2001, where she continued with community service and prayer and her hobbies of walking, tennis, basketball, biking, playing the trumpet, and card games.

Living family members include her sister, Leona Kleitsch; her brother, James; nieces and nephews; her dear friend, Lee Hong Nguyen; and the Sisters of the Presentation with whom she shared her life for 47 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Mathilda.


Clara Wilkin

ROCKFORD - Clara Wilkin, 95, formerly of Rockford, Iowa, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, at the Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab Center, in Coralville, Iowa.

Funeral services for Clara will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, at Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford. Visitation and greeting of the family will be after noon Saturday at the church. Lavon L. Horn

NASHUA - Lavon L. Horn, 84, of Nashua, passed away Sunday afternoon, Dec. 12, 2004, at the Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17, at St. John United Church of Christ/Pleasant Hill rural Nashua, with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Clara Emma Martha Wilkin

ROCKFORD - Clara Emma Martha Wilkin, 95, of Coralville and formerly of Rockford, died Saturday, December 11, 2004, at Lantern Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 18 at Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the church. Ila Ott

Ila Ott, 78, of Mason City, formerly of Chicago, died Saturday, December 18, 2004, at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

Funeral services for Ila Ott, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Bethany Alliance Church in Charles City. Pastor Kent Sovine will officiate. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene.

Ila Berniece Ott was born January 1, 1926, near Greene, the ninth child of a family of 14, born to Roy and Easter (Hill) Ott. As a child she attended the Bethel Baptist Church in Marble Rock and it was at that church at about 12 years of age that she accepted the Lord as her personal Saviour. Ila was reared in a Christian home where she was not only sent to Sunday School and church but was taken very faithfully by her parents who loved the Lord and who taught and practiced very high Christian principles and morals. She graduated from Greene High School in 1944 and in 1947 went to Chicago to attend Moody Bible Institute. She graduated from Moody in 1950 and after graduating worked at a couple of jobs before returning to Moody to work as a secretary. She worked at Moody for 27 years, having spent the last ten years as secretary to the Senior Vice President and General Counsel. She retired in April, 1992, moving to Mason City in 2000. Ila was a member of Edgewater Baptist Church in Chicago since 1962 and through the years taught Sunday School and served on various committees. She learned to love her church family, as well as the various pastors and the music ministry of the church. Ilaâs favorite hobby was needle work, which was tastefully displayed throughout her home. She also enjoyed reading, sewing and loved good music.

Living family members include six brothers, Malcolm (Kathryn), James (Louise), and Larry (Sharon) of Rockford, Richard (Mary) of Greene, Harold (Til) of Marble Rock, Donald (Delores) of Des Moines, and one sister, Gladys (Clarence) Bennett of Atlanta, Ga., one brother-in-law Dean Abbott, Ridgeway, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.

Ila was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Eunice Ott, Mary Taylor, Grace Howe, Evelyn Anderson and Lois Abbott; and an infant brother, Homer Ott. The Hauser Funeral Home, (641) 228-2323, www.hauserfh.com, in Charles City, is in charge of arrangements.

Nora Springs-David O. Nauman 68, of Nora Springs died December 17, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City.

At the families request a private family funeral service was held 11 a.m. Monday at the Eden Presbyterian Church, Rudd, with Rev. John Bates officiating. Burial was held at the Eden Presbyterian Cemetery, Rudd. Memorials may be directed to the Eden Presbyterian Church, Rudd. Visitation was held 5-8 P.M. Sunday at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street N.E., Mason City.David O. Nauman was born April 27, 1936 in Floyd county, the son of Emmett Sr. and Hannah (Jannsen) Nauman.

David attended school in Floyd. He began farming in the Floyd area. He was united in marriage to Janet (Mausehund) Nauman, on December 12, 1958 in the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, rural Osage. David farmed until retirement.

He loved farming, playing cards especially 500, watching western movies, traveling, riding roller coasters at amusement parks; his greatest love was spending time with his family and his granddaughter. He was in a card club in the Floyd and Charles City area for 45 years.

He is survived by his wife Janet, of Nora Springs, children Marilyn Nauman, of Mason City, Virginia and her husband William English, of Mason City, Bruce and his wife Pamela Nauman, of Mason City, Cindy and her husband John Angelicola, of Chesapeake, Va., Sandra Nauman, of Mason City, and Curtis Nauman, of Nora Springs, granddaughter Kayla English, of Mason City, mother in law Mary Mausehund, of Nora Springs.

He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in- law Herbert Mausehund.

Kali Ann Rieman

ALBERT LEA, Minn. - Kali Ann Rieman, infant daughter of Jonathan Earl and Janet Christine (Coppoc) Rieman of Albert Lea was born and died on Friday, Dec. 17, 2004 at the Albert Lea Medical Center.

Family and friends gathered at Calvary Baptist Church to remember Kali and interment was made in Lakewood Cemetery, Albert Lea.

Kali's family includes her parents; her siblings, Jazmyn and Gavin; grandparents, Bill and Karolee Coppoc of Albert Lea, Dennis and Cindy Rieman of Charles City; aunt Amber Rieman of Merrimec, Wisc.; uncles, Mike Coppoc of Kansas City, Jim Coppoc and his wife Becky of Ames; great grandparents: Eleanor Coppoc of St. Petersburg, Fla., Irene Keelin of Albert Lea, Mary Jane and Jurn Rieman of Rudd, Ruth Caspers of Charles City, Leo Durreger of Clear Lake, and many great aunts and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her great grandparents: William Joseph Coppoc, Robert William Caspers, Edith Durreger, and Thorald Keelin.

Roy M. Klinehart

Roy M. Klinehart was born April 12, 1933, near Ionia, the son of Ernest A. and Martha (Mack) Klinehart. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served the U.S. Army in France.

Roy married Marlys R. Kruger, June 1, 1956, at the Colfax Presbyterian Church at Holland, Iowa. He worked for Viking Pump In Cedar Falls for 39 years, retiring in 1975. Prior to working at Viking Pump Roy worked for the Oliver Corporation in Charles City.

Roy is survived by his wife, Marlys, of Cedar Falls; one son Mark (Kris) Klinehart and one daughter, Lori (Craig) Hilpipre all of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Klinehart, Chelsea and Will Hilpipre; one sister, Verna Gray of Charles City, and two nieces, Connie (Frank) Francis. of Fort Dodge, and Julie (Dr. Al) Rice of Scottsdale, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004 at 10 a.m., at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, Cedar Falls.

Horace M. Spaulding

ARLINGTON, Texas - Horace M. Spaulding, 91, formerly of Charles City, passed away Thursday, December 16, 2004, in Arlington, Texas.

A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 27, at the Arlington Funeral Home Chapel.

Horace was born in Fargo, North Dakota on Nov. 6, 1913, to Charles Walter and Laura Young Spaulding. He was active in the Boy Scouts as a youth attaining the level of Eagle Scout. Horace received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1935 from North Dakota State University in Fargo. While attending, he was an active member of the Epsilon Delta Chapter of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and the U.S. Army ROTC unit. In 1938, he married Naomi Gibbons and had two children, Horace Jr. and David. Horace was called up to serve his country in 1940. He commanded "H" Company, 47th Infantry, 9th Division in North Africa during World War II and was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Horace was taken prisoner at El Guettar Pass in Tunisia by General Rommel's troops in March of 1943, and imprisoned for 26 months in OFLAG 64 in Szubin, Poland. After a year of rehabilitation, Horace developed and managed a watch repair program for disabled veterans under a joint program between the Bulova Watch Company and the Veteran's Administration. He later worked in various sales positions for several organizations. His wife, Naomi, died on March 7, 1975. Horace retired to Charles City in 1982, and married an old high school sweetheart, Mary Hallenberg Maetzold. Prior to Mary's death in 2001, the two of them had a joyous life together traveling, playing golf, partying and generally enjoying their senior years. In 2003, Horace moved to Arlington to be near his son, David, and his family. In addition to his work life, Horace was also a member of the Rotary Club in Charles City and a member of the Masonic Order in Waseca, Minn.

Horace was preceded in death by his two sisters, Dorothea Beardmore of Charles City and Janet Spaulding of Fargo, N.D.

Horace is survived by sons David Spaulding and wife, Helen, of Arlington, Texas and Horace Spaulding, Jr. and wife, Patricia, of Greenfield, Colo.; sister Laura Cecily Spaulding of Austin, Minn.; grandchildren Drew, Patrick, Shane, Michelle and Scott Spaulding, Rhonda Schrock and Regina Sobieski; and five great-grandchildren.

Alice Ellis

Alice Ellis, 89, of Charles City, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services for Alice Ellis will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd. Pastor Solomon Odoom will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City.

Alice Marie Draeger Ellis was born April 20, 1915, at Rockford, the daughter of Charles and Maude (Holland) Draeger. She graduated from the Rockford High School. On Nov. 24, 1937, she was united in marriage to Ansel Ellis at Rockford. They farmed in the Rudd and Floyd areas all of their lives, retiring in 1969. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women's Society. Alice's hobbies included gardening, cooking, playing cards and doing various types of needlework.

Living family members include two sons and their wives, Rodney and Ruthanne Ellis of Charles City and Bill and Andrea "Toots" Ellis of Harpers Ferry; two daughters, Phyllis Foxen of Charles City and Beverly and her husband Jerome Foxen of Charles City; 14 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth Helfrecht of Pendleton, Oregon; two sisters-in-law, Luella Dodd of Hampton, and Opal Clift of Springfield, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Leland; a grandson, Chad Foxen; and a brother, Lawrence Draeger.

Edna E. Regel

NEW HAMPTON -- Edna E. Regel, 87, of New Hampton, died Friday, Dec, 24, 2004 at the New Hampton Care Center in New Hampton of natural causes.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am Tuesday, Dec. 28 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton with Reverend Alan Schulz officiating. Edna Elizabeth Regel was born Sept. 10, 1917, in rural Clayton County, the daughter of Ben & Anna Von Talge Wessel. She attended rural schools in Clayton County and graduated from Lamont High School in 1936. On Nov. 15, 1939, Edna was united in marriage to Raymond Regel at Charles City, where they resided until 1950, when the couple moved to New Hampton. Ray passed away on September 9, 1963. Edna was employed at Lampson Oil Co. in New Hampton as a bookkeeper for 14 years and Klunder's Kafé in New Hampton for 34 years, retiring in September of 1998 at the age of 80.

She enjoyed playing bingo, Bridge as well as many other card games.

Edna was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton where she served on the church council and was a past Chairman of the Ladies organization. She was also a member of the U Go I Go Club for many years.

Edna is survived by a son Roger (Shirley) Regel of Charles City; a daughter-in-law Sandy Regel of Spokane, WA; 4 grandchildren Tammy (Eric) Kacer of Mason City, Chris (Michelle) Regel of Spokane, WA, Tina Shrader and special friend Doug Fullerton of Rockford, Iowa, Matt Regel of Spokane, WA; seven great grandchildren Aaron, Abby, and Andrew Kacer, Zachary and Madison Regel, and Morgan and Miranda Shrader; a sister Laura Heddens of Cedar Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond Sept. 9, 1963; a son Richard Regel January 2004; six sisters Florence Scheidecker, Olena Scheidecker, Elsie Wessel, Viola Marshall, Vera Wedeking, and Doris Wessel in infancy; six brothers Irving, Howard, Clifford, Bill, Wayne, and Lloyd Wessel.

Joseph Ottengheime

Newbury Park, Calif. - Joseph Ottengheime, age 79, of Newbury Park, Calif. (formerly of Charles City), died from complications of diabetes.

A memorial will be scheduled later in 2005.

Joseph was born Feb. 18, 1925 in Amboy, Ill. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was the bakery manager at Trowbridges in Charles City until 1963. Prior to that, Joseph owned his own bakeries.

Joseph and his family moved to the west coast, where he continued in bakery management until retiring.

Joseph is survived by four children: Mary (Ottengheime) Tjaden and Larry of Charles City; Jo Ellen and Victor Conrad, of Newbury Park, Calif.; Jon Ottengheime, of Seattle, Wash., Paul and Terri Ottengheime, of Alteda, Calif.; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Neptune Society is in charge of arrangements.

Chandler C. Smith

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. - Chandler C. Smith, 86, of Casa Grande and formerly of Charles City, passed away at RTA Hospice House in Arizona on Friday, December 24, 2004.

No services are planned.

Mr. Smith was born in Charles City on June 20, 1918. He was graduated from Grinnell College, married Charlotte Madson, and entered the U.S. Army Signal Corps within the summer of 1941. After his medical retirement from the service in 1945, the couple returned to Charles City where Mr. Smith joined his father and brother in the family lumber business. In 1956 the family moved to Livermore, Calif., where Mr. Smith was one of the first hires at the new Sandia National Laboratories facility there. Upon retirement in 1976, Mr. and Mrs. Smith lived in Concord and Walnut Creek, Calif. After Mrs. Smith's death in 1996, Mr. Smith remained in Walnut Creek just four more years, then came to Arizona to be near his daughter Merrilyn.

Mr. Smith is survived by: his brother, Merrill G. Smith, Jr., of Leesburg, Fla.; his daughters, Merrilyn S. Ridgeway, Casa Grande, and Virginia S. Khoury, London, England; two grandsons, Kevin E. Lammers, Newark, Del., and Paul C. Andersen, Scottsdale, Ariz.; and two great-granddaughters, Kaysa and Brynley Lammers.

Myrtle A. Knowlton

Myrtle A. Knowlton, 92, a resident of the 11 Street Chautauqua Guest Home and formerly of #2 South Cedar Terrace, Charles City, died early Monday evening, Dec. 27, 2004, at the 11 Street Chautauqua Guest Home.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 106 Chapel Lane, Charles City. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Shirley A. Bengtson, age 89 of Decorah, died Sunday, December 26, 2004, at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah following a short illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 30, 2004, at First Lutheran Church in Decorah, by Rev. Steven M. Jacobsen. Graveside services are at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Woodbury Cemetery in Lyle, Minn.

Richard Eckenrod

Richard Eckenrod, 72, of Charles City, died Tuesday, December 28, 2004, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Richard James Eckenrod was born January 30, 1932, on the family farm in rural Ionia, the son of Leonard and Cleo (Tucker) Eckenrod. He attended the Republic Country School through eighth grade and graduated from the Nashua High School in 1952. Following graduation Richard was inducted into the United States Army on August 6, 1952. Richard was stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, and then went to Korea in March of 1953 where he was stationed for over a year. He was honorably discharged on July 24, 1954. Richard was united in marriage to Lorraine Ferch at the Little Brown Church in Nashua on February 13, 1955. They lived in Charles City during their married life. Richard was a carpenter and helped build many homes in Charles City. He suffered a brain aneurysm on October 30, 1975 and was forced to retire at the age of 43. He spent many years in a wheel chair due to his health problems, the last being lung cancer diagnosed in May 2004. Richard still enjoyed life despite all his health problems and spent much of his time during warm weather sitting outside in his wheel chair waving at the people going by. If anybody would ask him how he was, he would always say, "I'm ok", even though we all knew different. Richard attended Bethany Alliance Church and was a lifetime member of V.F.W. post 3914. He was proud of his children and grandchildren and enjoyed family get togethers. He enjoyed sports, especially basketball, and was a big Iowa Hawkeye fan. Richard will be missed very much by his large and loving family and his many friends.

Richard is survived by his wife, Lorraine of Charles City; four daughters, Deb (Kirk) Bailey, Jean (Jerry) Wiltse and Nancy Eckenrod all of Charles City, Karla (Jeff) Klein of Prior Lake, Minn.; a step daughter, Linda (Ron) Apel of Charles City; four sons, Keith (Cindy) Eckenrod and Tom (Lori) Eckenrod both of Charles City, Mike Eckenrod of Grand Junction, Colo., and Bill (Jill) Eckenrod of Waverly; grandchildren, Mark and Megan Bailey, Kristin, Brian and Brandee Eckenrod, Dana, Carrie, Kelly Eckenrod, Jessica (Mark) Barry, Joe, Jennifer, Jerry Jr. (Benya) Wiltse, Haley and Trey Eckenrod, and Lisa, Steve and Chad Apel; great grandchildren, Kylie Boehmer, Claire Eckenrod, Kaden, Sarah, Stephani, Trent and Tad Barry, Jordan and Logan Apel, Ann Marie and Samuel Wiltse; two sisters, Shirley Eckenrod of Muskego, Wis., and Mary Lou (Bob) Haaker of Flippin, Ak.; three brothers, Robert (Fonda) Eckenrod and Kenneth (Mabel) Eckenrod both of Waterloo, and Jerry (Diane) Eckenrod of Belle Plaine; and two sisters-in-law, Fern Eckenrod of Nashua and Pauline Eckenrod of New Hampton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Faith Eckenrod; two brothers, Les and Don Eckenrod; and a sister, Pat Schwartzkopf.

Myrtle A. Knowlton

Myrtle A. Knowlton, 92, a resident of the Eleventh Street Chautauqua Guest Home and formerly of #2 South Cedar Terrace, Charles City, died early Monday evening, December 27, 2004, at the Eleventh Street Chautauqua Guest Home.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 31, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 106 Chapel Lane, Charles City, with Msgr. Stanley J. Hayek presiding. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City. A rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. with the scripture wake service to follow at 7 p.m. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the mass at the church on Friday. Myrtle Agnes (Ryan) Knowlton was born October 26, 1912, in Charles City, the daughter of William Henry and Josie (Tynan) Ryan. Myrtle was a lifelong resident of Charles City. Myrtle graduated valedictorian of her class from Immaculate Conception Academy in Charles City. On February 27, 1937, Myrtle was united in marriage to Clifford B. Knowlton in Austin, Minn. Myrtle was a dedicated wife and nurturing mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was very family-oriented and they were her paramount priority. Myrtle was a gardener extraordinaire and the family recalls she could grow anything very well. She is further described as a woman who was vibrant, witty and always had a twinkle in her eye. She was very proud of her Irish heritage and a person who truly enjoyed nature. Myrtle had been a homemaker, but was passionate about her devotion to her faith and being a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Charles City.

Grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in her life are her four children, Michael (Madeline) Knowlton of Charles City; Kay (Gerald) Horgan of Kingwood, Texas; Manan (Kenny) Rowe of Danbury, Neb. and Michele (Jack) Rolph of Evansdale; eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford B. Knowlton, on October 8, 1963; her parents; two sisters, Josephine Frieberg and Irma Spurbeck; and two brothers, Leo Ryan and William 'Hoddy' Ryan.

Mabel E. Green

ROCKFORD - Mabel E. Green, 80, of Rockford, died Tuesday, December 28, 2004, at her home in Rockford.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 31, at the Rudd United Methodist Chruch, 611 6th Street, Rudd, with Reverend Jim Turner and Chaplain William Peake officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery, Rudd.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 30, from 4-7 p.m. at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 North Hawkeye, Nora Springs.

Mabel Elizabeth (Rolfes) Green was born on October 08, 1924, in the Niles Township, north of Charles City, the daughter of William Rolfes and Christinia 'Tena' (LaCoste) Rolfes. She received her education in the Rudd School System. After completing her schooling she worked as a chicken processor for Hoover Hatchery. She was united in marriage Lloyal Green on November 21, 1942, in Rudd.

She enjoyed playing cards and games with her family, playing bridge and 500 with her friends, solving crossword puzzles and cryptograms, especially crocheting many doilies and treasures for her family and friends that will be treasured for years to come.

She was a member of the Rudd United Methodist Church in Rudd.

Left to cherish her memory are her four children; Terry Green and his wife, Jerry, of Mason City; Gary Green, Rudd; Connie Achenbach and her husband, Andy, Newton, Kan.; and Debra Engels and her husband, Robert, Rockford; 13 grandchildren; Teri Chapman and husband Charles, Mark Achenbach and wife Karen, Tracy Green, Trevor Green, Tricia Green and husband Dennis, Bob Green and wife Laurie, Jennifer Green, Julie Wharton and husband Rick, Jacque Bushbaum and husband Jamie, Angie Engels, Erin Lyman and husband Russ, Andrea Hanig and husband Nick, and Daniel Engels and his fianc/e Jackie Shultz; and 29 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her four sisters in laws; Gayle Green, Bonnie Henry, Dawn Volbrecht and her husband Chuck, and Dixie Meek.

Mabel is preceded in death by her husband Lloyal Green, parents William and Tena Rolfes, great grandson Derick Wharton, and two sisters, Inez Field and Irene Moore.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Funeral services for the Rev. Glenn O. Davidson, 73, of Pine island, Minn., will be held Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at Calvary Lutheran Church, 7520 Golden Valley Road, in Golden Valley.
