Merna E. Holmes

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. - Merna E. (Bunn) Holmes, 80, died on April 2, 2002, in Orchard Park, N.Y. Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. No prior visitation.

Merna was born on April 30, 1921, in Charles City and was raised on the Bunn family farm east of Charles City, graduated from Charles City High School in 1939, and attended Iowa State University in Ames until her marriage to William S. Holmes in 1942. During World War II she lived in Virginia. At the end of the war, she and her husband moved to the Buffalo area and settled in the town of Orchard Park, where she became active in the school PTA, leading their dance class program in the early 1950s. She was an excellent homemaker and a wise mentor.

Living family members include her husband and their children Robert, Douglas and Patricia, and three grandchildren.

Donations may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Orchard Park, N.Y.

Pauline Lydia Jung

Pauline Lydia Jung, 91, formerly of Charles City, died Wednesday morning, April 3, 2002, in Guardian Angel Care Center, Elk River, Minn.

Funeral services are planned for 10:30 Saturday, April 6, 2002, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Charles City. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St. Charles City. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery.


Harold 'Tim' Gayther

Harold "Tim" Gayther, 86, a resident of 3021 210th Street, Charles City, died Thursday, April 4, 2002, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Funeral services for Harold "Tim" Gayther will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. The Rev. Ted Clark, pastor of the First Wesleyan Church, will officiate. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until service time on Monday.

Harold Kenneth Gayther was born May 17, 1915 in Floyd County, the son of Walter and Clara (Brown) Gayther. He received his education from the East St. Charles school and Charles City High School. On June 29, 1946, he was united in marriage to Phyllis McManigle at Spring Valley, Minn. "Tim" farmed all of his life in the Charles City area. When he retired "Tim" started trucking for several years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, taking short trips, hunting, and appreciating nature in its many forms.

Living family members include his wife, Phyllis of Charles City; a daughter and her husband, Shirley and Duane Greenzweig of Charles City; two grandchildren, Lindsey Michael, and Steve Michael and wife Jackie; and a great granddaughter, Lexandria.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.


June Huxohl

June H. Huxohl, 78, a resident of North Cedar Terrace Apt. #122, Charles City, died Friday, April 5, 2002, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Memorial Services for June H. Huxohl will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 605 S. Iowa Street, Charles City. Richard Tector, an elder of Jehovah's Witnesses, will officiate.

June Helen Huxohl was born September 29, 1923, in Charles City, the daughter of Lester and Helen (Waterman) Jaeger. After the death of her mother, June was raised by her uncle and aunt, Joseph and Hilda Nacey of Charles City.

She graduated from the Charles City High School. In 1948 she was united in marriage to Otto Carlisle Huxohl. They made their home in Charles City where they raised their two children. Through their retirement she enjoyed traveling with Carlisle to the Gulf of Mexico during the cold winter months. After her husband's death in 1988, she was active in Jehovah's Witnesses and the Senior Citizen's Center, where she helped out as treasurer. She worked at First Citizen's Bank in Charles City and Mason City. June enjoyed needlepoint, sewing and her family's enjoyment with horses.

Living family members include:

Daughter: Carla Huxohl of Corwith, Iowa

Four Grandchildren: Joshua and Rachel Huxohl of Kingwood, Texas, Carlita Jergens and husband, Mike, of Sumner, Iowa, Christian Humphrey

Stepmother: Nina Jaeger of Charles City, Iowa

One Brother: Dale Jaeger and wife Barbara of Mankato, Minnesota

Two Sisters: Diane Edgelhardt and Karen Oeltjenbruns, both of Charles City, Iowa

Several nieces and nephews

Special friends: Dick and Joan Tector, local members of Jehovah's Witnesses and the people of First Citizens Bank.

Her parents, her husband and one brother Wayne precede her in death.

Fred Perry 

Fred D. Perry, 72, a resident of 1101 Grove St., Charles City, died Sunday, April 7, 2002, at his home. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, at the V.F.W. in Charles City. The Rev. Norm Bauer, Pastor of Calmar Lutheran Church in Calmar, Iowa will officiate the services.

The family suggests that memorials be directed to the June H. Huxohl Memorial Fund. Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City is in charge of arrangements.


Nicholas Brunner

MARBLE ROCK - Nicholas M. Brunner, 88, of Marble Rock, died Sunday, April 7, 2002, at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 10, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Roseville, with burial in the church cemetery. Military rites will be performed by Stroud Gates Post #387 of the American Legion of Marble Rock.

Reid's Funeral Chapel in Marble Rock is in charge of the arrangements.


Aldon 'Duke' Cross

Aldon James 'Duke' Cross, 65, of 1804 Kenwood Ave., Charles City, died Monday, April 8, 2002, at his home following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 11, at 11 a.m. at Sunnyside Chapel in Charles City. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 10, from 4-8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. until service time.

Burial will take place in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, Charles City.

Aldon James 'Duke' Cross was born Sept. 24, 1936, in Charles City and was one of five children of Charles and Margaret (Monroe) Cross. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1955. On Aug. 17, 1957, he was united in marriage to Patricia Schmidt at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He was an avid camper, fisherman, hunter, card player and enjoyed going to casinos and being with his family. He worked for Patterson Gas Station for several years and then for Salsbury Chemicals as a chemical foreman for 35 years, retiring in 1997 at the age of 61. he also served in the National Guard from 1957-58.

Living family members include his wife, Patricia A. Cross of Charles City; a daughter, Tammy Cross Quinlan and her husband, Patrick, of Egan, Minn.; two sons, Ken Cross and his wife, Joanne, of Webster City and Mark Cross and his wife, Rana, of Olathe, Kan.; six grandchildren: Sydney Quinlan (Tammy), Scottie, Janelle and Katie Cross (Ken), and Dallas and Casey Cross (Mark); two brothers: Allen Cross and his wife, Diane, of Charles City and Jerry Cross and his wife, Mary, of Forest City; two sisters: Lavon Varner and her husband, Earl, of Rock Falls and Anna Mae Frein and her husband, Edward, of Charles City; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces, cousins, friends and family members.


Florence Schrader

Florence (Mrs. Paul) Schrader, 96, a former resident of 302 15th Avenue, Charles City, died Monday, April 8, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services for Florence Schrader will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church. The Revs. Dianne Christopher and Diane Mitchell, pastors, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday. Visitation will continue at the church an hour prior to the service.

Florence Mae Ponto Schrader was born January 19, 1906, at Charles City, the daughter of Herman and Frankie (Waid) Ponto. She graduated from Charles City High School in 1923. On December 31, 1923, he was united in marriage to Paul Schrader at Charles City. From 1954 to 1967 they owned and operated Schrader Plumbing and Heating at Nashua. Florence was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and a former member of Cedar Side Club. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, and doing needlework. Florence was a farmer at heart.

Living family members include a son, Dave Schrader and wife Phyllis of Charles City; a daughter, Betty Peterson of Charles City; 6 grandchildren, David, and Gayle Peterson, Nancy Herron, David, Richard, and Michael Schrader; eight great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Her parents, husband in 1979, a grandson, Kevin Schrader, a sister, Mary Noah, and a son-in-law, Roy Peterson preceded her in death.

The family suggests memorials be directed to Trinity United Methodist Church.


Lewis H. Farmer

Lewis H. Farmer, 77, a resident of Lake Park, formerly of Charles City, died Monday, April 8, 2002, at the Lake Park Care Center.

Memorial services for Lewis Farmer will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2002, at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City. The Rev. Diane K. Mitchell, associate pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City. There will be no visitation. The body was cremated.

Lewis Houston Farmer was born May 18, 1924, at Conway, the son of Charles Wade and Adrian (Watson) Farmer. Following his graduation from Maxburg High School, he enrolled for the summer session at Northwest Missouri State College (now university) in Maryville. Soon thereafter his older brother Charles was drafted and Lewis enlisted in the United States Army. Lewis saw extensive action as a member of the 79th Infantry in the European Theater during World War II, including the Battle of the Bulge at Utah Beach and the invasion of Germany. During the Battle of the Bulge, he and his brother met briefly in France, since their units were quartered close to each other. Lewis was awarded numerous military decorations, among them the Bronze Star, the Silver Star, the Combat Infantrymans Badge, (of which only 200 were issued), and the Congressional Medal of Honor. Following his return from Europe, he resumed his education, and completed his bachelors degree in industrial arts. He taught at Weldon and Postville, and worked for a time at the Oliver Corporation in Charles City. He then retired, suffering from what today would be known as Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome. Lewis was a sweet, kind, and gentle man who loved his immediate and extended family deeply.

Living family members include his brother, Charles W. Farmer of Spirit Lake; his maternal aunt, Pauline (Watson) Klaus of Charles City; several nieces, a nephew, and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mavis Smith and Marjorie Andresen, and a brother, Marvin Farmer.

The family suggests that memorials be directed to the Boy Scouts of America.

Lynn Zierath

Lynn Zierath, 81, a former resident of 302 North Grand, Charles City, died Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Funeral services for Lynn Zierath will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 12, 2002, at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. The Rev. Ted Clark, pastor of the First Wesleyan Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City. The Charles City Ceremonial Unit will conduct military honors. Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until service time on Friday.

Lynn Alvin Zierath was born May 30, 1920, at Charles City, the son of Charlie and Georganna (Lutona) Zierath. He received his education from the Charles City school. Lynn served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945 with the 180th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division, and participated in the Italian campaign and southern France invasion. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. Upon his discharge, Lynn worked for twenty years at Oliver Corporation later White Farm Equipment Company, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the First Wesleyan Church, V.F.W., Disabled American Veterans, and a 50 year member of the American Legion.

Living family members include a sister-in-law, Evelyn Zierath of Charles City; nephews, Bob Zierath and wife Peggy of Cedar Rapids and Ronald Jones and wife Helen of Seattle, Wash.; niece, Arden Herrick of Ohio, and several other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and a sister.


Louis A. Schulz

Glendale, ARIZ. - Lois A. Schulz, 81, of Glendale, Ariz., passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2002, in Scottsdale, Ariz. Lois will be laid to rest at the Riverside Cemetery on Saturday, May 18, 2002 at 11:00 AM, in her childhood home of Rockford. Fullerton Family of Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.

Lois was born March 17, 1921, in Hampton, the oldest of 11 children born to Jonathan and Ruby "Buckingham" Laudner. Eight sisters and brothers, Wava Uker, Sheffield; Delbert Laudner, El Cajon, Calif.; Maxine Fullerton and Ronald Laudner, Rockford; Marvin "Pete" Laudner, Maple Grove, Minn.; Sandra West, Palm City, Fla.; Larry Laudner, Chula Vista, Calif.; and Diane Massee, Rockford, Ill; survive her. Her brother Dallas Laudner and sister Lorraine Van den Brand preceded her in death.

Growing up in Iowa, Lois graduated from Rockford High School in 1939 and became a schoolteacher. She taught in North Iowa country schools. In December of 1940, she met and married her husband, Charles, who survives her. In the early years of their marriage, they traveled throughout the Midwest as Charles helped bring electrical service to rural America.

In 1945, after Charles was discharged from the U.S. Army, Lois and her growing family moved to Waterloo and Postville, Mount Carrol and Savanna, Ill. and Painesville and Perry, Ohio. During that time, Lois bore and raised four children, Charles, Jr. and his wife Denise, Carefree, Ariz.; Susan and her husband David Ransom, Phoenix, Ariz.; Michael and his wife Judy, Huber Heights, Ohio; and Jack of Mentor, Ohio, all of whom survive their mother.

In 1984, Lois and her husband retired to Arizona. Since then Lois has enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up as well as getting together for reunions with family and friends. Six grandchildren, Amy, Julie, Jennifer, Charles III, Michele and Jeremy and 17 great grandchildren survive her.

Mildred Schultz

Mrs. Mildred Schultz, 85, a resident of 507 North Jackson Street, Charles City, died Friday, April 12, 2002, at her home.

Funeral services for Mildred Schultz will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Trinity United Methodist Church. The Rev. Solomon Odoom, pastor of West St. Charles United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday, from 9-11 a.m. on Tuesday and at the church an hour prior to the services.

Mildred Lucille Swinton Schultz was born April 24, 1916 in Cannon Falls, Minn., the daughter of Fred and Hattie (Knutson) Swinton. She graduated from the Nashua High School. On November 26, 1938, she was united in marriage to Reynold Schultz at Sioux Falls, S.D. In 1956 she received her degree in elementary education from Iowa State Teachers College. Mildred taught school for seven years in Chickasaw County and for twenty-five years at Castle Hill Elementary in Waterloo. She was a member of the West St. Charles United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Book Worms, Floyd County Rock and Gem Club, and the Floyd County Historical Society. Mildred also volunteered, assisting Bev Rasmussen with her class at Washington School. Spending time with her family was very important. Mildred greatly enjoyed working in her yard and reading autobiographies. She was a teacher at heart, inviting school children into her home to view her natural science collections which she had saved from her teaching days.

Living family members include her daughter, Karen Thomas of Charles City; a son, Richard Schultz and wife Autumn of Charles City; three grandchildren, Dara Jaeger and husband Troy, Travis Thomas, and Daniel Schultz; two great grandchildren, Tate and Rhett Jaeger; seven brothers and their wives, Harold and Bernice Swinton of Waterloo, Willard and Lois Swinton of Long Beach, Calif., Donald and Dorothy Swinton and Vernon and Donna Swinton both of Waverly, Herbert and Delores Swinton of Cedar Falls, Morris and Alice Swinton of Dixon, Ill., and Roger and Marlys Swinton of Shell Rock; five sisters, Doris White and husband Clare of Emmetsburg, Helen Asher and husband Harley of Greene, Alfreeda Albaugh and husband Ronald of Springfield, Mo., and Wilma Braend and Lois Brodt both of Waverly; and a sister-in-law, Mary Swinton of Waverly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1992, infant son, Bruce, a brother, Dale Swinton, and a son-in-law, Jack Thomas.

Mary Groff Davis

Mary, Mrs. Benjamin Davis, 46, a resident of 1717 Owen Street, Charles City, died Sunday, April 14, 2002, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital of cancer.

Memorial services for Mary Davis will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Rev. Dennis Niezwaag, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.

The family will greet friends Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church.

Mary Ann Groff Davis was born Jan. 5, 1956, at Charles City, the daughter of John and Gladys (Hedquist) Groff. She graduated from Charles City High School in 1975 and later received training as a Certified Nurses Aide. On July 25, 1993, she was united in marriage to Benjamin Davis at Charles City. Benjamin died on March 1, 2001. Mary worked for 13 years as a Certified Nurses Aide at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home. She was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Among her hobbies were knitting, crocheting, and sewing. Mary was dedicated to her family, enjoying spending time with them.

Living family members include two sons, Sam Groff of Mason City, and Michael Groff of Charles City; a grandson, Alex Noble; two sisters, Linda Grose and husband Tom of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and Rose Groff of Charles City; a brother, Wesley Groff and wife Rebecca of Des Moines; two nieces, Shawna Groff and Alaina Grose; and two nephews, Cole Groff and James Grose.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband.


Lawrence J. Larson

Lawrence J. Larson, 79, of 609 South Jackson St. in Charles City, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa in Mason City. Funeral services for Lawrence J. Larson will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 20 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City. The Rev. Dianne Christopher, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City. The Charles City Ceremonial Unit will conduct military honors. Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5 to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 5 to 7:00 p.m. today, Friday, April 19, with additional public visitation from 9 to 10:30 am on Saturday. Visitation will continue at the church an hour prior to service.

Lawrence J. Larson was born July 31, 1922, in Milaca, Minn., the son of Joseph and Naomi (Lundstrom) Larson. Following graduation from Watertown, S.D., he joined the SD National Guard for the 34th Signal Company which was later activated. He served his country in the United States Army as a chief telegraph operator in Ireland, North Africa, Sicily, and Italy. Following his honorable discharge he continued his educational career at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. On June 9, 1946, he was united in marriage to Mildred Madsen in Watertown. They made their home in Lincoln, Neb. and then Brookings, S.D., where he attended South Dakota State University graduating with a bachelor of science degree in 1949.

Upon graduation they moved to Pierre, S.D., where he started his career in the microbiology field working at the State Health Laboratory. He subsequently received an M.S. in Microbiology in 1961 from S.D.S.U. In 1963, they moved to Charles City to work for the Salsbury Laboratory until completing his microbiology career in 1975. Lawrence went on to deliver mail as a rural carrier until retirement in 1984. In retirement Lawrence and Mildred were avid travelers, enjoying many different destinations. He was also an avid history buff with a very sharp memory and fondness of details, and a member of both the American Legion and Trinity United Methodist Church.

He will be greatly missed by those that knew and loved him including his wife, Mildred Larson of Charles City; son, David Larson and wife Vicki of Cedar Falls and their children: Keri, Lori, and Dana; son, Roger Larson and wife Nadine of Nevada with their son Kristian and wife Christy; daughter, Colleen Kehret and husband Dale of Charles City with their children Dan and Kelly; one great-grandaugher, Alexys; two sisters of Rochester, Minn., Jean Dunn and husband Rev. Merle and Ruth Rieke and husband Dwight; a sister, Beattie St.Angelo and husband Gordon of Indianapolis, Ind.; many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a niece, Marcia Dunn.

The family suggests that memorials be directed to the Lawrence J. Larson Memorial Fund for a charity of the family's choice.

ORCHARD - Norma Shaw, 84, of Orchard, died Thursday, April 18, 2002, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center-Hospice Unit in Osage. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2002, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with the Rev. Mike Carey officiating. Interment will be at the Orchard Cemetery. Erica M. Slessor

NASHUA - Erica M. Slessor, 53, of Nashua, died Monday, April 22, 2002, at her rural home near Nashua. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2002, at St. John Lutheran Church in Nashua with burial at a later date in the family cemetery, rural Nashua. Visitation will be Friday, April 26, 2002, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chenoweth and Son Funeral Home in Nashua and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Erica was born July 28, 1948 in Ross, Calif., to Niels and Mary Barbara (Leveque) Schultz. She went to Redwood High School in Lakespur, Calif. and Iowa State University in 1971, where she received a home economics degree and then a business degree from the University of Northern Iowa. She married Gerald W. Slessor, with whom she was owner and operator of River Bend Enterprises and River Bend Campgrounds.

Living family members include her husband Gerald of Nashua; three daughters, Manda Slessor, Jessica (Jim) Slessor-Troge and Johanna Slessor, all of Nashua; one granddaughter, Mariah Slessor of Nashua; her parents, Niels J. and Mary Barbara Schultz of Green Brae, Calif.; three sisters, Carla (Jeff) Steinke of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Andrea Shultz of Kentfield, Calif., and Iyanna Leveque of Muir Beach, Calif.

Edward Harris

NASHUA - Edward Harris, 75, of Nashua, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at Waverly Municipal Hospital in Waverly. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 26, 2002, at the Republic Community Church in rural Ionia with burial in Greenwood Cemetery in Nashua. Visitation will be today, Thursday, April 25, 2002 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chenoweth and Son Funeral Home in Nashua and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Edward was born Nov. 8, 1926 on the family farm in Chickasaw County, the son of Mel and Blanche (Feuchtwanger) Harris. He graduated from Nashua High School in 1944 and married Bonnie Lee Branstetter on Aug. 14, 1949 at the Republic Community Church, rural Ionia. He farmed until 1991 and did carpenter work until 1999.

Living family members include two sons, Wayne of Lincoln, Neb. and Klei (Lynne) of Fredericksburg; three daughters, Anita (Jim) Atterbury of Greenfield, Ill., Edette (David) Dresko of Longs, N.C. and Shureen Hoffman of Ionia; seven grandchildren, Heather Franz, Eric Shaughnessy; Nathan and Colin Hoffman; Kari, Todd and Trevor Harris; a great-grandson, Kevyn Franz; three sisters, Ethel Zipse of Fredericksburg, Florence Martin of Nashua and Mildred Christensen of Janesville and one brother Calvin of New Hampton.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie on Dec. 28, 1996; one son, Kevyn Harris in 1964 and his parents, Mel and Blanche Harris.

Verna M. Wight

Verna M. Wight, 68, of Charles City, died Friday, April 26, 2002, at the Mercy Medical Center in Mason City. Cremation was held and there will be no funeral services. Arrangements are with the Cremation Society of Eastern Iowa.

Verna was born Aug. 25, 1933, in Boone and was married to Donald Wight on Dec. 9, 1955, at the Trinity Lutheran Church at Boone. She graduated from East High School in Des Moines, and was formerly employed by Fareway Stores, Boone, Oliver Corporation and White Farm Corporation, Charles City, retiring from the United States Postal Service in Charles City.She was a member of the American Postal Worker's Union AFL-CIO, United Auto Workers and National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, traveling, and camping trips, both near and far.

Living family members include her husband, Donald; two sons, Timothy of Omaha, Neb., and Steven of Charles City; four grandchildren, Ashlea, Paige, Derik and Kegan; two sisters, Dolores Gay of Des Moines and Donna Gilchrist of Des Moines; a brother, Arlie (Butch) Miller of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Floyd and Catherine (Smith) Miller.


John Engels

 ROCKFORD - John J. Engels, 75, of 21 4th St. SW, Rockford, died Saturday April 27, 2002, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday May 1, 2002, at Holy Name Catholic Church, 507 1st Ave. NW, Rockford. Interment will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Anna Nordman

CLARKSVILLE - Funeral services for Anna Nordman, age 78, of Clarksville, Iowa, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at St. John Lutheran Church, with burial in the Lywood Cemetery, both in Clarksville.

Anna died at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2002, at the Bartels Retirement Community in Waverly, Iowa, from cancer.

The Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Clarksville is in charge of the arrangements.

Helen A. Jackson, 83 of 210 7th NE, Rockford, died Monday, April 29, 2002, at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 2, 2002, at the First United Methodist Church in Rockford. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Fullerton Schumburg Funeral Home 302 West Main, Rockford. Interment will be at the Riverside Cemetery Rockford.
