Donavon Dean Worley 

Donavon Dean Worley, 79, of Greene, Iowa, passed away May 23, 2010, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.  

He was born on June 3, 1930, in Bristow, Iowa, to Hubert L. and Lola G. (Kanter) Worley. Donavon attended country school and then graduated from Greene High School in 1948. He was united in marriage to Marian Grace DeVries on December 6, 1953, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in rural Sheffield, Iowa.

Donavon started farming with his parents and driving on his truck  routes in 1948; he later partnered with his son Kevin in 1980, along with taking care of his cattle and his hog farrowing operation. He sold and delivered eggs for fifteen years for Donavon Produce, whieh supplied loeal groceries stores in Aredale and Dougherty; he also drove a milk truck and was a meter reader for Butler County REC for twenty years.

Donavon was a member of the West Fork United Methodist Church, the Aredale Elevator Board and the Rockwell Telephone Board; he served on numerous church committees and helped with janitorial work at the West Fork United Methodist Church. He loved to roller skate, play volleyball with family and friends, go bowling amI do carpentry jobs throughout the area.  

Donavon is survived by his wife Marian Worley of Greene, children Linda (Mike) Pettey of Rockford, Carol (Allan) Woodley of Parkersburg, Kevin Worley of Greene and Glenda Thomas and fiance Davin Graffin of Waterloo, sister Joyce (Gerald) Krukow of Mason City, sister Edith (Don) Hodges of Marshalltown, brother-in-law Darwin Ebling of Greene, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in. death by his parents Hubert and Lola, sister Fonda Ebling and granddaughter Brittney Ann Sprague.  

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 27, at the West Fork United Methodist Church in rural Sheffield. Burial took place in the Dumont Cemetery. Pastor Janet Rieckhoff-Faris officiated the service.

Ruby Ruth Huisman

Ruby Ruth Huisman, 94, of the Shell Rock Health Care Center and formerly of the Shell Rock and Clarksville area, died on Tuesday morning, June 1, 2010, at the Shell Rock Healthcare Center of natural causes.

Ruby was born on January 22, 1916, in Tecumseh, Nebraska, the daughter of Clem and Lydia (Hager) Fordyce. Ruby attended various grade schools growing up and received her G.E.D. in the early 1970’s. On August 19, 1936, Ruby was united in marriage to Dick William Huisman in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The couple moved to a farm near New Hartford, Iowa for nine years and in 1952 moved to a farm near Shell Rock. In 1971, the couple built a home in between Shell Rock and Clarksville. Ruby worked for many years in the cafeteria at the Clarksville School System.

Dick died on July 19, 1975, and Ruby continued to live in their home until 2003 when she moved to the Meadows Apartments in Shell Rock. On February 8, 2006, Ruby became a resident of the Shell Rock Health Care Center.

Ruby loved sewing, reading, painting, gardening and bird watching. She was a member of the Culture

Ruby is survived by one daughter, Linda Peters and her husband, Lester of Plainfield, Iowa, three sons, Bill Huisman and his wife, Linda of Plainfield, Don Huisman and his wife, Ginny of Clarksville and Gary Huisman and fiance’ Carolyn Fenneman of Clarksville, thirteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild and a sister, Edna Lehman of Columbia Heights, Minnesota. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three brothers, Frank, Arthur, and Lawrence Fordyce and a sister, Audrey Henze.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 4 at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville with burial in Antioch Cemetery in Clarksville. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 3 at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly where the family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family and online condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com.


Viola Caroline Garrison 

Viola Caroline Garrison, age 87, of Stanwood, WA died on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at home with family.

Viola was born April 23, 1923 in Osage, Iowa to Christine and Fred Hubbard. Viola was married to Earl Garrison Sr. December 26, 1948. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, son Gary, and daughter Nancy Lynn. Viola’s memory is honored by her four living children, daughter Christine Tack, and three sons, Larry, David, and Walter Garrison as well as her 14 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.

Viola and Earl were longtime Iowa residents, growing up in the Osage/Riceville areas and operating the Clarksville elevator and produce for many years.

A memorial service was held on Tuesday, June 1st, 2010 at Smokey Point Community Church in Arlington, WA. Burial will be in Osage, IA. A graveside service will be held in Osage on Friday, July 2nd, 2010 at 11:00 am.


Wayne O. Hewitt 

Wayne O. Hewitt, 81, of Allison, Iowa, passed away May 29, 2010, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

He was born on April 17, 1929, in Bristow, Iowa, to Everett and Henrietta (Walterman) Hewitt. Wayne graduated from the Bristow High School in 1947. He served his Country in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and also attained the rank of sergeant.

Wayne was united in marriage to Mary Folkerts on December 23, 1951, in Bristow, Iowa. He worked as a parts man at Case Implement in Bristow and then farmed for thirty-five years. Wayne was a member of the New Hope Parish of the United Methodist Church in Dumont, the Dumont American Legion and the Bristow AmVets. He enjoyed fishing for walleye in Canada at Pine Point Resort and also enjoyed hunting Pheasants.

Wayne is survived by his wife Mary Hewitt of Allison, son Stan (Connie) Hewitt of Bristow, daughter Wanda (Randi) Thomas of Mason City, grandchildren Nathan Hewitt & fiancée Laura, Brandon Thomas & girlfriend Tara, Nickolas & Chelsi Thomas, sister-in-laws Ruth Wunsch & Alice (Claire) Merfeld. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held at Wednesday, June 2, at the New Hope Parish of the United Methodist Church in Dumont. Burial took place in the Oak Hill Cemetery in rural Bristow. Pastor Larry Pauley officiated the service. Military services provided by the Dumont American Legion.

Organist was Mrs. Cecil Radcliffe. Pallbearers were Nathan Hewitt, Brandon Thomas, Nickolas Thomas, Danny Shear, Ross Zimmerman, and Ron Zimmerman.

Ronald “Ron” R. Scribner 

Ronald "Ron" R. Scribner, 78, of Grand Junction, Colorado, passed away June 1, 2010, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Grand Junction, Colorado.

Inurnment will be at Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville, Iowa.

Memorials may be directed to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Florida 33607.

Callahan-Edfast Mortuary in Grand Junction was in charge of arrangements.


Norman Jacob Hansen 

Norman Jacob Hansen, 92, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away June 7, 2010, at the Franklin General Hospital Nursing Facility in Hampton, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 10, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hampton. Burial will take place in the Hampton Cemetery.

Flora Dena DeWitt  

Flora Dena DeWitt, age 92, of Shell Rock, died Thursday, June 17, 2010, at the, Community Nursing Home in Clarksville, Iowa.  

Flora was bom on December 28, 1917, in rural Clarksville, Iowa, the daughter of Philip and Anna (Henrichs) Hoodjer. She was baptized at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in rural Butler County, Iowa and in 1933, was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Clarksville, Iowa. Flora graduated with the Clarksville High School Class of 1935. She then taught Butler County Rural School for the next two years.  

Flora was united in marriage to Berend "Bennie" L. De Wit Jr. on October 23, 1937, in Waverly, Iowa. The couple established their home in Shell Rock, Iowa where Flora worked at Osweiler Nursing Home. In 1971, Flora and Bennie moved to Key West, Florida where they managed the Hilton Haven Motel until 1975, when they returned to Shell Rock. Flora then worked in food service at Wartburg College in Waverly until retiring in 1985.  

Flora was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church in Shell Rock. She enjoyed reading, cooking, Sunday suppers, taking care of her family and traveling with her sisters.  

She is survived by three sons, Richard (Mary Jean) DeWitt of Clarksville, Iowa, Robert (Janice) De Witt of La Porte City, Iowa, and Benjamin (Cathi) DeWitt of Shell Rock, Iowa; two daughters, Mary (Joe) Giunta of Indian Land, South Carolina and Molly (Chris) Howell of Hatch Bend, Florida; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bennie in 2000, a son, Philip Dewitt, and one granddaughter, Teri DeWitt, four sisters, Grace Niehaus, Ann DeWitt, Tina Bruns and Phyllis Voss.  

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 22, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Shell Rock with Pastor Kim Smith officiating. Burial followed at the Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock.

Breanna Marie Christensen 

Breanna Marie Christensen, age 14, of rural Wellsburg, Iowa, died Monday, June 7, 201O, at the Grundy Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa.  

Funeral Services were held Saturday, June 12, 2010, at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, Holland, Iowa, with Rev. Larry Doughan officiating. Burial was held in Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg.

James Lester "Dutch" Wiley   

James Lester "Dutch" Wiley, age 86, of Allison, Iowa, formerly of Parkersburg, Iowa, died Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at the Rehabilitation Center of Allison, Allison, Iowa, from natural causes.  

Funeral Services were held Saturday, June 19,2010, at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg, with Pastor Keith Sievers officiating.
