Funeral services for George R. Shultz, 83, of Greene, were held Monday, September 27, at the First Presbyterian Church in Greene with Pastor Paul Uzel officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene with Military Rites conducted by Tack Barnett Post 268 American Legion of Greene. George Robert Shultz was born, October 29, 1920 in rural Scott Township, Floyd County, a son of Clinton Ross and Myrtle Mynelia (Elfers) Shultz, and died Thursday, September 23, 2004, at his farm in Greene He received his education in the rural schools and graduated as valedictorian of his class in 1937. As a young man he was engaged in farming in Floyd County. On July 27, 1944 he was inducted into the United States Army where he served with Co. F 120th Regt. 30th Div. In Central Europe. On March 2, 1945, he was united in marriage to Margaret Louise Azerski, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Following his discharged on February 22, 1946, he returned to farming. George and Margaret were blessed with four children. George’s life and greatest love was farming. For over 58 years he farmed in the Greene and Marble Rock area. He was once asked what he was going to do when he retired. His reply was to farm. He was well versed in the various farming techniques, market prices, and types of farming equipment. George enjoyed going to the farm sales and enjoyed trading machinery. He served on the Farmers Cooperative Board and the Floyd County Pork Producers Board. He was a quiet and humble man. He enjoyed going to town for coffee, going for a walk around town, and visiting the public library. George was baptized on June 5, 1949 at the First Methodist Church, in Marble Rock. He has been a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Greene, where he has served as Trustee and Elder of the church. Those thankful for his life include his loving wife, Margaret of Greene, and his children: Roger (Joan) Shultz of Encino, CA, Robert (Laurel) Shultz of Greene, Jean (David) Thorson of Charles City, and Carol Lee (Dan) Schroeder of Greene; 15 grandchildren: Lance (Amy) Shultz, Rayan (Jennifer) Shultz, Travis (Friend Mandy Mashburn) Shultz, Garrett Shultz, Chad (Janice) Shultz, Chet (Bridget) Shultz, John Shultz, Megan Shultz, Stacy, Gretchen, and Kyle Thorson, Tricia (Michael) Jaeger and Jesse (Friend Julia Wilson) Thorson, Justin and Jace Schroeder; 10 great grandchildren: Laney, Kennedy, Nadia, Tanner, Katelyn Rose, Clay, Alex, Morgan, Madelyn, and Zachariah; one brother Lowell Shultz of Charles City, Sister-in-law: Genevieve Sorenson; and several nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents, and five brothers: Raymond, Lloyd, Dean, Don, and Clyde. Margaret L. Schrage, 92, of Allison, Iowa, passed away September 26, 2004, at the Allison Care Center, Allison, Iowa. She was born December 22, 1911, in Butler County, Iowa, to John and Flora (Althoff) Groninga. Margaret graduated from Aredale High School in Aredale, Iowa. She was married to Ervin Schrage on August 31, 1933, in Dubuque, Iowa. Margaret was a homemaker and a farmwife. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Allison, Iowa. Margaret enjoyed flowers, gardening, playing cards, spending time with her grandchildren, baking music and dancing with her husband. She is survived by three sons: Darwin and Barb Schrage of West Union, Gerald Schrage and Jan Schwieger of Allison, and Randy and Becky Schrage of Allison; a daughter Joan and Ed Parkes of Waverly; sister Frances Woodcock of Waterloo; nineteen grand-children; thirty great grandchildren. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters, six brothers and one great grandson. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at St. James Lutheran Church in Allison with Rev. Marvin Schumacher officiating. Special music was provided by organist Mrs. Cecil Radcliffe accompanying Darwin and Barb Schrage. Pallbearers were Troy Parkes, Tony Schrage, Mike Schrage, Curt Schrage, Dan Schrage and Victor Schrage. Honorary pallbearers were Sue Schmit, Julie Berger, Lori Shepherd, Terri Hartzell, Margaret Joan Schrage and Angie Schiavitti. Final resting place was in the Allison Cemetery with Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Helen V. Klunder, 87, of Clarksville, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2004 at the Community Nursing Home in Clarksville, Iowa. Helen was born January 6, 1917, the daughter of Bernard and Nota (Carlton) Petersen in LaPorte City, Iowa. She attended school in Waverly, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at the First United Church of Christ, Pleasant Valley. On January 18, 1934, she was united in marriage to Albert F. Klunder in the parsonage at First United Church of Christ, Pleasant Valley. Helen and Albert farmed for 58 years in the Butler County area. Helen enjoyed gardening, baking, being outdoors, and spending time with her family and friends. She was always willing to lend a helping hand. Survivors are her children, son, Dean Klunder and his wife, Pat of Waverly, Iowa, daughters, LaVonne Reeves and her husband, Royce of Chino, California, Ruth Mitchell and her husband, George of Charles City, Iowa, Evelyn Sanderson and her husband, Dr. David of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Joan Johnston and her husband, Roger of Cresco, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Doris Klunder of Charles City, Iowa; 21 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; and 8 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert on October 25, 2000; son, Eldon Klunder; one grandchild; five great grandchildren; ssister, Bernice Petersen and two brothers, Ralph and Leo Petersen. Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 25, at the First United Church of Christ, Pleasant Valley with Rev. Anne Sunday officiating. Burial was in the Willow Lawn Cemetery, Plainfield, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the First United Church of Christ, Pleasant Valley, Community Nursing Home or to Cedar Valley Hospice.

Ruth Lucille Schoneman, age 80, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the daughter of Obbo and Susan (Freeseman) Harken on June 7, 1924, Radcliffe, Iowa. She received her education and graduated from the Allison High School, Allison, Iowa in 1943. She continued her education and attended the Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa and received her Teaching Certificate. Ruth taught county school following college. On March 30, 1945, Ruth Harken was united in marriage with Richard Schoneman at the parsonage of the Lutheran Church in Waverly, Iowa. They made their home and farmed east of Bristow a few years and then moved to Clarksville, Iowa. Ruth worked at the Clarksville Canning Factory then for the former Don Wilken Grocery Store in Clarksville and she sold Avon. Ruth also worked for many years at the Clarksville Community Nursing Home until she retired. Ruth was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville where she was active in the Women’s fellowship. She enjoyed feeding birds and taking care of her dogs. In her spare time Ruth helped deliver meals on wheels and volunteered as a substitute grandmother during grandparent’s day at the school. She especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Ruth died Thursday, September 23, 2004, at the Clarksville Community Nursing Home of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard on April 9, 1984 and her parents. Ruth is survived by one daughter, Cathleen (Rollyn) DeGroot of Parkersburg, IA, three sons, Alan (Jackie) Schoneman of Clarksville, IA, Shane Schoneman of Clarksville, IA, and Dale (Vicki) Schoneman of Allison, IA; eight grandchildren, Dan (Rita) DeGroot, Janelle (Brent) Ballhagen, Doug (Rika) DeGroot, Shannon Schoneman, Chad Schoneman, Nick (Angie) Hurd, Erik Schoneman, and Genna Schoneman; eight great grandchildren, Austin, Emory, Olivia, Anna, Amber, Alex, Samantha, and Wyatt; one brother, Louis (Hermine) Harken of Greene, IA; two sisters, Annetta (Kermit) Arjes of Parkersburg, IA, and Alice (Roger) Heise of Cedar Falls, IA. Memorial Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 27, 2004 at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville, Iowa with Rev. David Walters officiating. Organist was Harriet Forry. Congregational Hymns were “In The Garden,” “Amazing Grace,” “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Joys Are Flowing Like A River.” Inurnment was in Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville, Iowa. Vernon Eugene Adelmund age 65, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Aplington, Iowa, was born the son of Paul and Wilhelmina (Viel) Adelmund on June 4, 1939, Parkersburg, Iowa. He received his education in Parkersburg, Iowa. Vernon enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on June 20, 1957. He was honorable discharged on May 20, 1960. On January 4, 1959, Vernon Adelmund was united in marriage with Shirley Ann Schwartz in Los Angeles, California. They lived in Anaheim, California while Vernon was in the United States Marine Corps. After leaving the service Vernon stayed in Anaheim and worked in a service station and later Kimberly-Clark paper mill. He returned to Grundy County and farmed for awhile. Vernon worked for Mid-Equipment as a welder for seven years and then Curbmaster of America-CMI in Cedar Falls for 28 years. Shirley died December 17, 1996. Vernon married Gayle Rhoads April 25, 1999 in Washburn, IA. He was a life member of the Amvets post #49 in Cedar Falls. Vernon died Wednesday, September 29, 2004, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo, Iowa, of cancer. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley in December of 1996, his parents, one sister Pauline Davis, and one step-son Todd Rhoads. Vernon is survived by his wife Gayle, four daughters, Sheryl (James) Kinney, of Waterloo, Lynda (David) Hoffman, of Estherville, IA, Phyllis Webb, of Marshalltown, Joyce (Dennis) Roster, of Aplington; one son, David (Melissa) Adelmund, of Cedar Falls; two step-daughters, Mona (Raymond) Putney, of Charles City, Yvette (Thomas II) Hall, of Waterloo; one step-son Rex Rhoads, of Cedar Falls; six sisters, Wilma Jean (Abel) Conrads, of Cedar Falls, Judy Meester, of Dike, Linda (Jim) Luzadder, of Cedar Falls, Carol Adelmund (Pat Hall), of Brooklin Park, MN, Sandra Adelmund (Robert Wood), of Columbia Heights, MN, and Rita (Larry) Vetter, of Hudson, WI. Funeral Services were at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 2, 2004, at the Parkersburg Veterans Memorial Building in Parkersburg, Iowa. Officiating was Rev. Arthur George Haan, 79, of Allison, formerly of Aplington and Kesley, Iowa, died Sunday, October 3, 2004, at Bartels Lutheran Home, Waverly, Iowa, following a long illness. He was born March 3, 1925, near Kesley, Iowa, son of George Haan and Margaret (Sherman) Haan. Art was a life-long resident of Butler County. He entered the US Army on June 4, 1943, and served as a Tech Sergeant, 36th Division 143rd Infantry Company E. He was taken prison of war, February 10, 1945, and was held until April 27, 1945. He was discharged September 28, 1945, and was honored with the Purple Heart. On September 29, 1952, he married Margaret Tillwick in Omaha, Nebraska, who preceded him in death on July 18, 1986. To this union six children were born, Vicki (Haan) Johnson, Virgil Haan, Virginia Haan, Vincent Haan, Victor Haan, and George Haan. Art retired from John Deere after twenty plus years of employment. On June 6, 1992, he married Dorothy (Mehmen) Van Raden, which included four stepchildren Steve Mehmen, Diane (Mehmen) Feldt, Daleth (Mehmen) Pothast, and Stanley Mehmen. He was an avid Nascar Racing fan and a die-hard “Cubs” fan. Survivors include his wife Dorothy Haan; five children; twelve grandchildren, Joey Johnson, Jennifer Bruns, Jill Blanchard, Jessica Kellum, Janae Kellum, Willy Haan, Stacy Haan, Alicia Haan, Charice China, Kierra Poe, Kirk Haan, and Kasey Haan; seventeen great grandchildren; four step-children; fourteen step-grandchildren, Allen Feldt, Sherry (Feldt) Marr, Ray Feldt, Andrew Pothast, Kristen Pothast, Michelle Pothast, Kyle Mehmen, Kerry Ann (Mehmen) Demro, Kelsi Mehmen, Rick Mehmen, Nick Mehmen, Jennifer Mehmen, Justin Becthold, Heather Becthold, and five step-great grandchildren, two brothers, Melvin Haan of Florida and Ervin Haan of Parkersburg; two sisters, Lorraine Kannegieter of Parkersburg and Hattie McCaffery of Cedar Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Margaret, and a son Virgil. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at the St. James Lutheran Church in Allison, Iowa with Rev. Keith Tomlinson and Rev. Marvin Schumacher officiating. Special music was provided by organist Mrs. Cecil Radcliffe accompanying soloist Mrs. Beryl Wubbena. Harley L. Cuvelier, 84, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away October 1, 2004, at his home in Dumont, Iowa of natural causes. He was born on June 25, 1920, in Hansell, Iowa, to Hyrom Elmore and Iva M. (Vincent) Cuvelier. Harley graduated from Dumont High School. He served his country during World War II from 1941-1945 in the United States Air Force as a Master Sgt. While in the Air Force, Harley was a crew chief on a B-17. He was proud of the fact that his crew never lost a plane on their missions over Europe. He married Ruth Truex on November 17, 1945, in Bristow, Iowa. Harley farmed and worked on construction in the rural Dumont area, after retiring from farming he became a rural Mail Carrier for the United States Post Office in Dumont, retiring in 1996. He was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church in Dumont, Iowa. Harley was a member of the Men’s Quartet, Sunday School Teacher, and Trustee of the Church. He was also a member of the rural Letter Carrier’s Association, Lion’s Club and the American Legion. Harley enjoyed going fishing. He is survived by wife Ruth M. Cuvelier of Dumont; two daughters: Roxa Lee Clarke of Houston, Texas and Hope I. and husband Norm Guidie of Bradenton, Florida; granddaughter Jenna Guidie of Bradenton, Florida and grandson Martin Guidie of Bradenton, Florida; six brothers: Albert Cuvelier of Grand Blanc, Michigan, Iven Cuvelier of New Hartford, Orlo Cuvelier of Ora Valley, Arizona, Leland “Abe” and wife LaVera Cuvelier of Aplington, Bob and wife Dolores Cuvelier of Lawler and Craig and wife Jean Cuvelier of Sierra Vista, Arizona. Sisters: Maxine Hahn of Hampton, Donna and husband Sheryl Sokolik of Hampton, Dorothy and husband Don Harmon of Anamosa and Carol Koenen of Hampton. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister in childhood. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at the New Hope United Methodist Church in Dumont, Iowa with Rev. Terra Amundson and Rev. Bob Connor officiating. Special music was provided by organist Mrs. Beryl Reed accompanying the congregational singing. The ushers were Harold Reents and Bob Barber. Pallbearers were Russ Truex, Paul Hilsman, Mike Creeden, Mark Gerdes, Bob Uhlenhopp and John Cuvelier. Final resting place was in the Oak Hill Cemetery, rural Bristow, Iowa. Ardella Leona Hansen, age 60 years, 8 months and 7 days, of Aplington, Iowa, was born in rural Stout, Iowa, to John Jr. and Anna (Schipper) Marks on January 27, 1944. Ardella accepted Christ as a teen on the farm and made her public confession of faith at First Reformed Church in Aplington. On August 31, 1962, Ardella Marks was united in marriage with William Allan Hansen at the First Presbyterian Church in Aplington. They made their home and raised their family in Aplington. Ardella was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Aplington, where she has held office in the Aplington Presbyterian Women and circle groups, taught and attended Sunday School for many years and enjoyed attending Wednesday morning Bible study. She also helped with Vacation Bible School, the AWANA’s program and served on the Christian Education Committee. This past spring she was honored by receiving the lifetime award for APW. Ardella was also active and held office in the Christian Women’s Club and the TOPS organization. In her early years, she played basketball and was in track. She loved cleaning and painting for people. She enjoyed flowers and gardening. Ardella was always ready to play games, cards, and entertain her family and friends. She especially enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren. Ardella died Monday, October 4, 2004, at the Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, Iowa, from natural causes. She was preceded in death by her parents John Jr. and Anna Marks. Ardella is survived by her husband, William Allan Hansen of Aplington; four children, Debbie Kay (Terry) Tellinghuisen of Brandon, South Dakota, Danny Ray Hansen of Sigourney, Iowa, Denise Ranae Hansen of Eagan, Minnesota, and Darla Jo (Eugene) Ubben of Conrad, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Evan & Ethan Tellinghuisen, Kirsten, Brianna & Spencer Hansen, Conner, Samantha & Madison Ubben; one sister Dorthy (Kenny) Mehmen of Baxter, Iowa; and five brothers, JB (Elizabeth) Marks of Allison, Roger (Joyce) Marks of Allison, Gary (Shirley) Marks of Hampton, Orlyn (Wendy) Marks of Parkersburg and Randy Marks of Waterloo. Funeral Services were at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, October 7, 2004, at the First Presbyterian Church in Aplington, Iowa. Officiating were Rev. Greg Smith & Rev. Donald Patet, the organist was Leneé Pollock, three Soloist were Lori Uhlenhopp san “Light Your Candle,” Charlene Kramer san “One Day At A Time” and Scott Marks sang “The Lord’s Prayer” and also was signed by Rebecca Marks and the Congregational Hymns were “Have Thine Own Way Lord” and “Just As I Am.” The Casketbearers were Scott Marks, David Mehmen, Joel Marks, Bryon Marks, Mark Uhlenhopp, Brandon Marks and Karl Uhlenhopp. Interment was at the Pleasant View Cemetery rural Aplington, Iowa. Private Graveside Services for Dalton Jacob Schafer, infant son of Jacob Dean and Theresa Ranae (DeBower) Schafer, of Osage, were held 10:00 a.m. Monday, at South Vilmar Cemetery with Pastor Mark Walker of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church officiating. Dalton died Thursday, September 23, 2004, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. He is survived by his loving parents, maternal grandparents, Kenneth & Margaret (Korte) DeBower of Bristow, paternal grandparents, Leslie & Dienna (Ebling) Schafer, of Greene, paternal great grandfather, Darwin (Frances) Ebling, paternal great grandmother, Ramona Schafer all of Greene; his aunts and uncles: Sarah (Shane) Wicks of Cedar Rapids, Rebecca DeBower of Cedar Falls, Lucas Schafer of Manly, Lydia Schafer of Greene, and two cousins: Samuel & Natalie Wicks. Marian Wamsley, 83, of Horton, Iowa, died Monday afternoon, October 11, 2004, at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, Waverly. She was born on October 27, 1920, at Clarksville, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond P. and Mildred (Sherburne) Wamsley. She attended school in Clarksville and graduated from the Clarksville High School in 1938. Marian moved with her parents to a farm near Plainfield where she helped them with the farm and household chores. She would spend the next years caring for her parents while living in the Plainfield and Waverly area. After her parents deaths in 1981 and 1982, she began baby sitting for her niece, Jennifer, and following the death of Jennifer’s mother, Ardis (Roger) Wamsley she moved into Roger’s home to continue to care for Jennifer and Roger’s home. In July of this year Marian became a resident of Bartels. Jennifer and Marian had developed a very special bond, almost like a second mother, and they spent much time together. Jennifer’s love is her miniature horses. Last Sunday, October 9, Jennifer was able to bring one of her little horses directly to Marian’s room at Bartels which delighted Marian and the many residents who also got the chance to see the miniature horse. What a special treat. She was a longtime, faithful member of the Horton Baptist Church, Horton. Marian is survived by her three brothers, Ron of Greenville, South Carolina, Gordon of Waterloo, Roger and his daughter, Jennifer, of Horton; and several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters-in-law, Ardis, Edna and Lois; and one nephew, Bruce Wamsley. Funeral services will 10:30 am on Thursday, October 14, 2004, at the Horton Baptist Church, rural Waverly, with Pastor Joseph Tassell officiating. Burial following the lunch will be at the Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville.

Elvin Janssen, 58, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away October 10, 2004, at the Hampton Health Care Center in Hampton, Iowa. Elvin was born October 11, 1945, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, to Herman and Anna (Kromminga) Janssen. He was a member of the Dumont Reformed Church in Dumont, Iowa. Elvin loved the outdoors. He is survived by his three brothers: Harlan and wife Susan Janssen of West Bend, Wisconsin, Burdette Janssen and special friend Debbie Freie of Dumont, and Rodney and wife Cathy Janssen of Dumont; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 14, 2004 at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Dumont, Iowa with Rev. Lorene Elizabeth Johnson passed away October 5, 2004 at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, East Campus, Mason City, Iowa having reached the age of 80 years, 9 months, and 29 days. She was born December 6, 1923, at the Deetz farm in Chickasaw County, Iowa, to William Martin & Leta Engel (Fedeler) Deetz. Lorene attended Bridge Country School. She married Melvin James Thompson on March 27, 1940 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Stapleton, Iowa. Melvin passed away on April 26, 1952. She then married Charles Henry Johnson on August 10, 1954 in Sprindale, Arkansas. Chuck passed away on July 28, 1984. When first married, Lorene worked on a truck farm growing and selling vegetables in Arizona and Arkansas. She then worked several years at a chicken processing plant in Roger, Arkansas. In Iowa, she worked as a Nurse Aide for many years in Hampton and Rockwell. Lorene enjoyed working outdoors, especially working with flowers, reading, and baking. Lorene was known for taking care of any stray cat that happened her way. Spending time with her family was most important to her. She was known to her family and friends as “Grandma Chuck”. She is survived by her three daughters: Marie and husband Stan Bridges of Hampton, Sarah Mae and husband James Sargent of Indianola, Sharron Kay and husband Robert Meyer of Dumont; a son: Melvin and wife Lori Thompson of Demorest, Georgia; two step-sons: Terry and wife Darla Drewelow of Parkersburg and Bruce and wife Beth Drewelow of Evansdale; two brothers Vern Deetz of Charles City and Arnold and wife Grace Deetz of Charles City; a sister: Marion Franzen of Ft. Atkinson; ten grandchildren (+Keshia); two step-grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, one sister Corrine, one brother Leo, grandson Vincent Fielding and step-granddaughter Becky Drewelow. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, October 7, 2004 at Bristow Church of Christ with Brother Marvin Platt officiating. Special music was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Hans Terrill. The flower committee was Maxine Bushbaum and Lila Winkowitsch. Ushers were Bill Beadle and Raymond Grapp. Pallbearers were L. D. Griner, Hans Terrill, Gary Bierman, John Bushbaum, Kevyn Mumaw and Benjamin Franken. Honorary pallbearers were Daniel Winkowitsch and Tyler Mumaw Honor Guard by the Mason City Fire Department. Final resting place was in the Dumont Cemetery with Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Lyle Francis Barnett, age 84, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born December 27, 1919, on a farm near Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Ornan and Fern Marx Barnett. As a child, he moved with his family to a farm northeast of Clarksville where he lived the rest of his life. He graduated from Clarksville High School in 1937. Lyle was united in marriage with Marie Therese Merfeld on November 21, 1944 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Greene, Iowa. The couple made their home on the family farm. Lyle was a caretaker of the soil and spent many hours working to improve his farm and was always striving to be an even better farmer. He had done custom silo filling and corn picking and raised hogs for many years. He was very committed to farming, especially with his sons and grandsons. Lyle was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greene. He had served on the Farm Service Board and was active in Farm Bureau at one time. When he was able, he would take the family fishing and camping. He always loved to go for a drive or ride along with the guys. He enjoyed company and people stopping by for a visit. The entire family was made aware of the weather as he was a good predictor of it. He always made sure that everyone had enough seeds to plant, especially wildflower seeds. Most of all, Lyle’s greatest love was his family. Lyle died Thursday, October 7, 2004, at the Shell Rock Care Center of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ivan Barnett as a child; three sisters, Gail Bolin, Rose Brown and Eleanor Rhoads and one son-in-law, Roger Hites. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Marie Barnett of Clarksville; four sons, Tom (Paula) Barnett, Clarksville, Mike (Dianne) Barnett, Clarksville, Sam (Julie) Barnett, Clarksville and John (Barb) Barnett, Plainfield; six daughters, Lucille (Paul) Leerhoff, Clarksville, Joann (Jerry) Jacobs, Clarksville, Nancy (Steve) Donavon, Clarksville, Marcella (Eugene) Leerhoff, Greene, Marj (Randy) Johnson, Clarksville and Kathleen (Roy) Petersen, Waverly; 27 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren with one expected in October; two brothers, Joe (Joyce) Barnett, Minneapolis, Minnesota and Ben (Beverly) Barnett, Iowa City, Iowa; one sister, Evelyn Dye, Phoenix, Arizona; one brother-in-law, Dick Rhoads, SanRafael, California and a special nephew, Shawn Brown. Funeral Services were at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 11, 2004, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greene, Iowa. Officiating was Fr. Walter Brunken, Special Music was “A Walk With Elijah” sung by Shawn Brown, “Go Rest High On the Mountain” sung by Mike Bullock and Funeral Mass – St. Mary’s Resurrection Choir. The Honorary Bearers were Shawn Brown and Carl Garbes. The Casketbearers were his Grandsons, Jeff Jacobs, Kurt Leerhoff, Rod Donavon, Greg Barnett, Alan Leerhoff, Brad Donavon, Kevin Leerhoff, Shane Barnett, Justin Jacobs, Matt Petersen, Phil Barnett, Andy Barnett, Josh Petersen, Edward Johnson and Lyle Barnett. The Readers and Gift Bearers were his Granddaughters, Ann Freerks, Kelli Nauman, Amy Juhl, Traci Massman, Jodi Ross, Janelle Barnett, Holli Wahl, Kristen Clark, Alesha Johnson, Kara Barnett, Tresa Barnett and Beth Barnett. Interment was at the Lynwood Cemetery in Clarksville, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Clarksville, Iowa were in charge of the arrangements. Memorials maybe directed to the family.

Opal Katherine Ott, 85, of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of Waterloo, Iowa, passed away October 15, 2004, at the Allison Care Center in Allison, Iowa. She was born on January 28, 1919, in Ogden, Iowa, to Herbert and Emma (Lorenzen) Clausen. Opal graduated from Boxholm High School in Boxholm, Iowa. She was married to Vern Ott on September 1, 1941, in Ogden, Iowa. Opal worked as a homemaker. After her retirement, she worked with “Labors For Christ” building and remodeling churches all over the United States. Opal was a member of several Lutheran churches across the country. She enjoyed sewing and embroidering. She is survived by her four daughters: Barb and husband Don Abbott of Tok, Alaska, Becky and husband Lyle Ames of Casa Grande, Arizona, Sandy and husband Stan Roose of Bristow and Pam and husband Joe Falise of Boca Raton, Florida; sister Goldie Lundvall of Boone; thirteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, three brothers, and one great grandchild. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, October 18, 2004 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of rural Greene, Iowa with Rev. Mark Walker officiating. Special music was provided by organist Florence Vieker accom-panying the congregational singing. Pallbearers were Lyle Ames, Mark Ames, Kurt Roose, Tim Roose, Kyle Roose and Travis Roose. Final resting place was in the Glenwood Cemetery, Ogden, Iowa. Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Rodney Lee “Tony” Silver, 48, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away October 14, 2004, at his home in Dumont, Iowa. He was born on September 7, 1956, in Hampton, Iowa, to Donald F. and Nancy (Abbas) Silver. Tony graduated from Dumont Community Schools. He was married to Lois Freesemann on June 23, 1979, in Allison, Iowa. Tony drove truck for Greene Limestone. He was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church in Dumont and attended St. James Lutheran Church in Allison. Tony enjoyed fishing in his “Lund” boat, hunting, camping, boating, shopping, playing slots, going to auctions, watching his daughters be active in extra curricular activities, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, playing Yahtzee, and telling stories. He is survived by his wife Lois Silver of Dumont; daughter Carissa Silver and fiancé Dustin Otto of Dumont; daughter Tori Silver of Dumont, daughter Tonia Silver of Dumont; sister Rhoda and husband Ron Clemens of Paola, Kansas, and sister Roxie Bochmann of Peoria, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Rhonda and one brother Roger. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 18, 2004 at the St. James Lutheran Church in Allison with Rev. Marvin Schumacher officiating. Special music was provided by organist Mrs. Cecil Radcliffe accompanying the special music “Dance With My Father” and congregational singing. Pallbearers were Bill Reysack, Steve Otto, Doug Card, Cliff Winkowitsch, Larry Slocum and Gordon Schrock. Harold Alfred Wehrhan, age 84, of Lincoln, died Thursday, September 23, 2004 at the Grand Island Veterans Home in Grand Island. He was born June 23, 1920 at Shell Rock, Iowa to Howard & Genevieve (Baggs) Wehrhan. They moved to Allison, Iowa where he attended and graduated from Allison High School. He then attended and graduated from the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Iowa. He was drafted into World War II in 1942 and served in the Army Air Force in Intelligence at Fowlmer, England until the end of the war in 1945. He married Ellen C. Knott on May 18, 1943, to this union was born a daughter, Judith Ellen, and son Rodney Harold. He spent most of his life in the drug business, 5 years for Osco Drug in Waterloo, IA, then in 1953 moved to Lincoln, NE and then spent the next 26 years for Walgreen Drug Company. He retired January 19, 1979 and he and Ellen spent the next 23 years in Mesa, AZ until his health forced them to return to Lincoln, NE. He was a member of American Legion Post #3 in Lincoln. Survivors are his wife, Ellen of Lincoln; daughter and son-in-law Judy and Lary Vergith of Lincoln; son & daughter-in-law Rodney & Judy Wehrhan of Ft. Worth, TX; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grand-children; 3 sister-in-laws; 1 brother-in-law and many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, 1 sister & 3 brothers. Services were held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 27, 2004 at the Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Memorials in care of the family to be designated at a later time. Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home in Lincoln was in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for Paul H. Dralle, 92 formerly Greene were held Thursday, October 21, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Vilmar, with Pastor Mark Walker officiating. Burial was in the South Vilmar Cemetery. Paul Henry Dralle was born May 18, 1912, in rural Coldwater Township, Butler County, a son of William and Lena (Kammeyer) Dralle, and passed away Monday, October 18, 2004 at the Clarksville Community Nursing Home. He was baptized June 30, 1912, and confirmed April 15, 1928, at St. Ev. Lutheran Church at Vilmar. He received his education at the West Point No. 5 Country School. As a young man he farmed with his father . He was united in marriage to Dorothy Louise Fick on January 16, 1937 at Vilmar. They farmed for Joe Gough in the Bristow area until 1941 when they started on their own near Greene. Mrs. Dralle died September 13, 1957. On January 7, 1961, he was united in marriage to Minerva A. (King) Barr at St. Peters Lutheran Parsonage in Greene. They farmed in the Vilmar area before moving into Greene in 1974. Minerva passed away March 20, 1997. Paul will be remembered for his love of fishing in Canada, and for the trips that he organized to take family and friends along. Paul and Minerva enjoyed traveling to Hawaii and the Caribbean, and spending time in California. His other interests include making grand father clocks, working out in the yard, and checking what was going on at the farm. He also enjoyed going for coffee at the “neighborhood coffee shop”. Living family members include; two sons: Darwin Dralle of Greene, Dean (Doris) Dralle of Clarksville; two step-sons: Don (Iola) Barr of Costa Mesa, California, Ron (Pat) Barr of Dubuque; four grandchildren: Wayne (Darla) Dralle of Greene, Randy Dralle of Charles City, Michael Dralle of Laredo, TX, Melissa Dralle of Clarksville; two great grandchildren: Amanda and Katee Dralle,11 Step Grandchildren, 21 Step great grandchildren, 1 step-great great grandchild;a step-daughter-in law; Shirley Barr of Waverly; several sisters and brother-in law include: Minnie Kielman of Marshalltown, Lucille Newell, Jean Schaefer both of Waterloo, Edna King of Marble Rock, Dottie (Ervin) Solberg of Floyd, Geraldine Vater of Alton, MO; and Leonard King of Charles City. He leaves to join his two spouses, a step son, Jimmy Joe Bar, 4 sisters: Minnie Kruse, Ida Heuer, Violet McNeilus, Rosamund Bruns, 5 brothers: Bill Dralle, Hank Dralle, Ervin Dralle, Seigfred Dralle, Lawrence Dralle and several sisters and brothers-in-law. Memorials may be directed to the Paul H. Dralle Memorial Fund in care of the family.

Leslie Herman “Jack” Rust, age 61, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born November 4, 1942, the son of Herman and Myrtha Wilmot Rust in Waverly, Iowa. He received his education in the Clarksville school. Jack was united in marriage with Connie Smith on February 15, 1962 in his parent’s home in Clarksville. He was a welder and worked for Niehaus Welding in Clarksville since the age of 16. He retired in 1985 due to his health. Jack liked to build things with metal. He enjoyed cars, especially his black ’51 Chevy. He liked to work in the garage and tinker with things, fixing them. He became known as “Mr. Fix-It” in the family as the children could bring things like their bikes to him to be repaired. He especially enjoyed the time with his children and grandchildren and became their rides to school on rainy days. He was always happy and waved at everyone as he sat on his porch and expected a wave in return. The family had a special signal at night when they drove by, they honked their horn and he would signal with his flash light that he had heard them. He enjoyed feeding corn to the squirrels and watching them. Whenever possible, he would go down to the dam to sit and watch the water. Jack died Friday, October 15, 2004, at his home in Clarksville, of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie on March 31, 2002; an infant son and his father, Herman Rust. He is survived by one son, Leslie “Scott” (Judy) Rust, Greene, Iowa; three daughters, Stacey (Steve) Kettwig, Clarksville, Iowa; Shawn Rust, Clarksville, Iowa and Shannon (Darren) Spree, Clarksville, Iowa; eight grandchildren; his mother, Myrtha “Mert” Rust, Clarksville, Iowa and one sister, Jean Sherburne, Waverly, Iowa. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 19, 2004, at the Church of Christ in Clarksville, Iowa with Pastor Val Swinton officiating. Organist was Audrey Rosenwinkle. Congregational Hymns were “Old Rugged Cross,” “One Day at a Time” and “Amazing Grace.” Casketbearers were Steve Thorne, Rob Norton, Dave Lucas, Richard Wilmot, Chad Smith and Scott Melohn. Honorary Casketbearers were Stephanie Nagel, Travis Rust , Matthew Rust, Samantha Kettwig, Shana Kettwig, Courtney Rust, Blake Spree and Madison Spree. Max P. Lunstrum, age 83 of Dumont, died Thursday, October 14, 2004 at the Dumont Wellness Center in Dumont, Iowa. Funeral service were held Sunday, October 17 at 2:00 PM at the New Hope United Methodist Church in Dumont with the Rev. Terra Amundson officiating. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City. Max Palmer Lunstrum was born in Boone, Iowa on April 10, 1921, the son of Elmer and Mamie (Lackore) Lunstrum. He moved to Forest City as a young child where he received his education and graduated from Forest City High School in 1939. Max worked on the farm for an uncle until moving to California for a brief time to work in the wartime industries. He married Ruby Cunningham in Clear Lake, Iowa on September 19, 1942. Shortly after, he was inducted into the US Army where he served as a front line medic with the 4th Infantry Division throughout the European Theater. Following his honorable discharge, he began working toward his Bachelors Degree from the University of Northern Iowa. After receiving his BA, he taught for 2 years in Swaledale, Iowa, received his Masters Degree from the University of Iowa, and then moved to Dumont where he spent the next 30 years teaching science, math, biology and industrial arts. He served as principal of the Dumont Community High School and continued teaching there until his retirement in 1983. Max served as the City Clerk of Dumont, was active in the PTA, the American Legion, the Lions Club and the 4th Infantry Division Association. He liked to go fishing and enjoyed elk hunting trips in Colorado. He always took pleasure in visiting his children and helping them with home projects. Max died at the Dumont Wellness Center in Dumont, Iowa, on October 14, 2004 at the age of 83 years. He is survived by his children: Sharon Lunstrum and husband Oscar Argumedo of San Antonio, Texas; Kathy Lurene Lunstrum of Golden, Colorado; Judy Ginapp and husband Clark of Holyoke, Colorado; Danny Lunstrum and wife Lynne of Dumont; and Terry Lunstrum and wife Jeanette of San Antonio, Texas. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and a brother, Vernon Myhre of Brooks, Oregon. Max was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruby on July 23, 2001, an infant sister Anna Grace and a sister, Helen Cassie.
