Carolyn Mauline Knock

Carolyn Mauline Knock, age 83, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born March 6, 1921, the daughter of August and Tillie Fleshner Nicklaus north of Parkersburg, Iowa. She was baptized in the First Congregational Church at the age of six months. She graduated from Parkersburg High School and attended Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls. Carolyn was united in marriage with Markley Knock on June 15, 1940, in the Congregational Church, Parkersburg, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple farmed, then in 1955, they started a redimix company, known as Parkersburg Ready Mix. They opened Knock’s Sand and Gravel northwest of Clarksville in 1962. In 1968, they started Knock’s Building Supply which they operated until Markley became ill. Carolyn kept the books for the business for many years. Carolyn was a life-long member of the First Congregational Church where she had taught Sunday School. In the past she very much enjoyed singing in the church choir. She belonged to the Ladies’ Guild at the church. Carolyn died Monday, November 22, 2004, at home in Parkersburg of complications of cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Markley on April 13, 2000; a grandchild, Sydney Knock; and one brother, Paul Nicklaus. She is survived by five sons, David (Joyce) Knock of Des Moines, IA; Kenneth (Ranae) Knock of Parkersburg, IA; Michael Knock of Allison, IA; Russell (Joan) Knock of Cedar Falls, IA and Don (Cindy) Knock of Ames, IA; fourteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Delbert (Karen) Nicklaus of Iowa City, IA. Funeral Services were held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at the First Congregational Church in Parkersburg, Iowa with Pastor Paul Shaedig officiating. Organist was Mary Ann Simon. Tom Teeple sang “How Great Thou Art.” Stan Thompson and Roma Ries sang “In The Garden” and “Whispering Hope.” Roma Ries sang “One Day At A Time” Stan Thompson sang “Lord’s Prayer.” The congregational hymn was “The Old Rugged Cross.” Honorary Casketbearers were Kyle Knock, Scot Knock, Beau Knock, Jordan Knock, Jeremy Knock and Klint Knock. Casketbearers were Jerry Junker, Dennis Aswegan, Bryon Aswegan, Tor Nicklaus, Ray Nitcher and Mel Bohlen. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.

Walter Koop,

Walter Koop, age 83, of Ackley, Iowa, formerly of Aplington, Iowa, was born June 15, 1921, on a farm northwest of Austinville, Butler County, Iowa. He was the son of Henry and Sophia (Meyer) Koop. He received his education through the 8th grade at the Crooked School House north of Austinville and graduated from high school in 1943 from the Pleasant Prairie Academy, in German Valley, Illinois. He continued at Central College in Pella, Iowa, and finished his formal education at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. After college he helped out on the farm for his parents and later for his brother, Edward. He then did construction work for Whitey Meyer for seven years and Gethmann Construction of Gladbrook for another year. He started working at the canning factory in Ackley in 1959 and retired 29 years later, having been promoted over the years to canning supervisor. Walter was united in marriage to Dorothy Frerichs Bassler on July 6, 1962, at the First Presbyterian Church in Aplington. Walter and Dorothy and Dorothy’s son, Bruce, made their home at 826 Nash in Aplington. Walter was a member of the Washington Reformed Church where he taught catechism and Sunday school and served on the Consistory. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing, bowling, and going to Iowa and Iowa State football games. He also liked taking care of his lawn and house, washing his car, and taking walks with Dorothy. Walter died Thanksgiving Day morning, November 25, 2004, at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Dorothy, who passed away on October 4, 2004. Walter is survived by one step-son, Bruce Bassler, and his wife, Eunice, of Ames, Iowa; two grandchildren, Evan Bassler of Ames, Erika Kidd and her husband, David, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; five siblings all of Ackley: Edward Koop, and his wife, Jeannette; twin brother William Koop, and his wife, Anna Mae; Elsie DeVries; Augusta Rykena; and Agnes Ackerman. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 29, 2004 at the Washington Reformed Church, Ackley, Iowa with Pastor Jack Ritsema officiating. Organist was Gertrude Ackerman. A Quartet of Dawson Ackerman, Justin Lupkes, Jon Green and Todd Nolte sang “It Is Well with My Soul.” Congregational Hymns were “Blessed Assurance” and “Sweet Hour of Prayer”. Casketbearers were James Koop, Jason Koop, Jonathan Koop, Roland Ackerman, Wayne Anderson and Tom Kramer. Internment was in Pleasant View Cemetery, Aplington, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel, Aplington, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Memorial services for Dr. J. T. Truitt, D.C., 84, of 615 Bluff Street, Greene, will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 27, 2004, at the United Methodist Church in Greene with Pastor Ashok Patet and Pastor Richard Truitt officiating. Inurnment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene with military rites conducted by Tack Barnett Post 268 American Legion of Greene. Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 26, 2004, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel in Greene. Joseph Theodore Truitt, Ted, was born Nov. 21, 1919 in Lancaster, Wisconsin; the son of Alger H. Truitt and Ella Marie Truitt, and died Saturday, November 20, 2004, at Bickford Cottage in Iowa City. He grew up and attended high school and normal school in nearby Fennimore. He taught a rural school in Grant County for one year and then attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. He served a three year apprenticeship in West Allis, Wisconsin, becoming a journeyman machinist. There he met Analaura Philpott who was to become his wife. During the Second World War, Ted, now G.I.Joe, served for two years in the Pacific in New Caledonia and the Philippines. Hewas stationed with an antiaircraft unit at Clark Field. On April 7th, 1945, he was married to Analaura. He matriculated in the National College of Chiropractic in Chicago where he completed the four year course to become a Doctor of Chiropractic in three years. He set up practice in Ripon, Wisconsin, upon graduation and practiced there for two years. In 1951 he accepted an associate opening in Woodward, Oklahoma where they lived until coming to Greene late in 1955. Here he took over the practice of the late Dr. Langenhagen, Merle Noble’s father. He practiced until retiring in 1998 after 48 years of chiropractic. Ted and Ann have five sons. James, who has two daughters, Julie and Jamie. They live in Springfield, Missouri. Lawrence, of Nevada, Iowa, who married Melanie and has four daughters; Melissa, Stacie, Laura and Amanda. They have two grandchildren. The third son, Thomas, married Rosie and has one son, Gabriel, and three daughters, Chanelle, Rachel and Tanya. Thomas has 11 grandchildren. Tom’s family lives in Cleveland, Ohio. The fourth son, Rodney, married Nancy Tack of Greene. They live in Richmond Heights, Ohio and have a daughter, Jennifer, and a son, Riley. The fifth son, Raymond, married Patricia and they have two children, Ashley and Justin. They live near Solon, Iowa. In addition, Jann Davis was like a daughter. She married Charles and lives in Charles City. They have a daughter, Kris and a son, Bill. Ted’s hobbies included woodworking. He built cabinets, furniture, remodeled their kitchen and baths and added a garage and kennel building to their property. He loved to garden. He also wrote letters to the editor, of the Des Moines Register and had many published over the years. He was active in community affairs, early on. President of the Greene Commercial Club for three years. He was a member of the Methodist church and sang in the choir. He also loved to play golf and was a member of the Round Grove Country Club since coming to Greene. His main pleasure in life was derived from helping people through Chiropractic. He donated to charities, his favorites being organizations trying to help women in disadvantaged countries limit the size of their families. He was concerned about the increasing disparity between the rich and the poor. Paul Lavern Jansen

Paul Lavern Jansen, age 77, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born August 21, 1927, the son of John and Minnie Kramer Jansen on his parent’s farm north of Parkersburg, Iowa. Paul served in the Army from March of 1946 to April of 1947. Paul was united in marriage with Sylvia Vanderwerf on June 28, 1949, in the Presbyterian Church, Aplington, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple farmed at various locations in Butler and Grundy Counties until 1963. Paul sold insurance for a few years before moving to Parkersburg in 1965 when he began selling for the local car dealership, retiring in 1995. He also worked for Schwartz Funeral Home for a few years. Paul was an active member of the Christian Reformed Church, serving as a deacon, an elder, Sunday school teacher and Sunday School Superintendent. He also participated in several Gospel and Barbershop Choruses. Paul was a charter member of the Parkersburg Lions Club and a member of the Parkersburg American Legion Post #285. Most of all, Paul loved attending the various activities of his children and grandchildren. Paul had the unique ability to make friends with anyone he met and his outgoing personality will be missed. Paul died Friday, November 26, 2004, at the Allen Memorial Hospital of complications of heart disease. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Paulette in December of 1989; and his parents. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; four sons, Dale (Sara) Jansen of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Lugene (Jane) Jansen of Orange City, Iowa; Ronald (Lisa) Jansen of Pella, Iowa; and Troy Jansen of Ames, Iowa; two daughters, Linda (Joe) Scallon of Iowa Falls, Iowa; and Twila Jansen of Cedar Falls, Iowa.; eleven grandchildren; and one brother, Larry (Mary Ann) Jansen of Spirit Lake, Iowa; one brother in-law Rev. Calvin Vanderwerf of Temple, Texas; two nieces and two nephews. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at the Christian Reformed Church, Parkersburg, Iowa with Pastor Frank Pott officiating. Organist was Janet Johnson. Prelude Music was by the Interfaith Men’s Chorus which Paul sang with in the past. Lugene Jansen sang “One Day at a Time” and “The Light House”. Charlene Kramer sang “I Was There To Hear Your Borning Cry”. Congregational Hymn was a medley of hymns. Honorary Casketbearers were Paul’s Grandchildren, Quint and Matt Jansen, Sara, Mark, Amy and John Scallon, Rachel and Emily Jansen and Garret, Elisabeth and Joe Jansen. Casketbearers were Dale Jansen, Lugene Jansen, Ronald Jansen, Troy Jansen, Larry Jansen and Joe Scallon. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral, Parkersburg, was in charge of arrangements. A memorial will be established at a later date.


Leslie “Pete” Richard Christiansen

Leslie “Pete” Richard Christiansen, 80 of New Hartford, Iowa, died on Friday, November 26, 2004 at Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. Leslie was born on August 21, 1924 near Dike, Iowa, the son of Harry Richard and Anna Sophia Rasmussen Christiansen. He attended school in Dike. He was employed with John Deere Tractor Works in Waterloo from 1947 to 1982. Leslie was united in marriage to Eunice May Luck of New Hartford on May 7, 1949 in Hiawatha, Kansas. Leslie enjoyed fishing and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Eunice, of New Hartford, three sons, David and Daniel Christiansen of New Hartford, Iowa; Jeffrey Christiansen and his wife, Patti of Tecumseh, Oklahoma; two daughters, Susan Brodie of Shell Rock, Iowa; and Louise Vance of Clarksville, Iowa; eleven grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; one sister, Sylvia Schlamp of New Hartford, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Elna Retterath, Gladys Johnson, Helen Christiansen in infancy; one brother, Milton Christiansen, and one grandson, Michael Allen Brodie. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at 11:00 am at the Church of Christ, 302 South Elizabeth, Clarksville, Iowa. Burial of Cremains will be held at a later date in Beaver Grove Cemetery, New Hartford, Iowa.
Elmer Albert Korte

Elmer Albert Korte, age 80, of Madrid, Iowa, was born August 1, 1924, Elkton, Minnesota, the son of Albert John and Jennie Harms Korte. He received his education in various schools, the last one in Parkersburg. In his youth, he was a member of the First Reformed Church in Aplington. Elmer served in the United States Navy during World War II. Elmer was united in marriage with Gladyce Riekena on September 2, 1944, in Dumont, Iowa, while on leave from the Navy. Gladyce lived at home with her parents until his return. He received his High School diploma with his graduation class of 1944, while serving in the Navy. Following his return home from the Navy, they made their home in Traer, Iowa, where he was a truck driver. Elmer was a printer for a variety of newspapers and lived in different towns throughout the rest of their marriage. When they lived in Kamrar, Iowa, Gladyce passed away in October, 1975. Elmer moved and lived in Boone, Iowa for a time, until he entered the nursing home. He led a quiet life, went to work, then came home and worked in his garden. His life was based around what he had planted in that garden and had a goal to can 100 quarts of tomatoes each year. Elmer died Monday, November 22, 2004, at the Madrid Nursing Home in Madrid, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladyce; one daughter, Bertha Faye in infancy; two brothers, Herman and Leuie Korte; and one sister, Ilene Bartell. He is survived by three sons, Karl (Ruthanne) Korte of Truro, Iowa; Keith Korte of Des Moines, Iowa; and Kurtis (Sue) Korte of Tennessee; three daughters, Karla (Don) Schlesselman of Williamsburg, Iowa; Karmen (Doug) Inman of Des Moines, Iowa and Kayleen Taylor of Truro, Iowa; fifteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; one brother, John Korte of Grand Rapids, Michigan; two sisters, Frances Eilderts of Aplington, Iowa; Marian Bietelman of Monticello, Illinois and one sister-in-law, Christina Korte of Dumont, Iowa. Funeral Services were held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at the First Reformed Church, Aplington, Iowa with Pastor Harlan DeJong officiating. Organist was Lois Wessels. Congregational Hymns were “What A Friend We Have In Jesus,” “O Jesus I have Promised” and “O Master Let Me Walk With Thee.” Casketbearers were Karl Korte, John Korte, Steve Korte, Alex Korte, Don Schlesselman and Roger Eilderts. Interment was in Shiloh Cemetery, Wellsburg, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel, Aplington, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the American Alzheimer’s Association.
Charles “Charley” Robert Uhlenhopp

Charles “Charley” Robert Uhlenhopp, age 95, of Aplington, Iowa, formerly of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the son of Rob and Johanna (Brinkman) Uhlenhopp on January 8, 1909, Butler County, near Aplington, Iowa. He received his education from the Aplington School. Charley lived in the Aplington - Parkersburg area all his life. He worked as a farm hand until he went into the junk business and retired in 1990. He bought most of his junk at sales. Charley liked to go fishing, especially up north with his friends. He also enjoyed going for drives and reading. Charley died Thursday, November 25, 2004, at the Maple Manor Care Center, Aplington, Iowa, of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Maggie Conrads, Mary Beenken and Johanna Bodecker; and eight brothers, Dick, Chris, Harm, Jake, John, Robert, Edward and Jerry Uhlenhopp. Charley is survived by one brother, Henry R. and his wife, Lela Uhlenhopp of Ackley, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, November 29, 2004 at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg, Iowa with Mr. Robert Orr officiating. Congregational Hymns were “How Great Thou Art” and “Closer Walk With Thee.” Casketbearers were George Uhlenhopp, Harley Uhlenhopp, Morris Uhlenhopp, John Bodecker, Dick Beenken and Herman Beenken. John Harm Kramer

John Harm Kramer, 90, of Shell Rock, died Monday, December 6, 2004, at the Shell Rock Health Care Center. John was born on December 15, 1913, near Aplington, Iowa, the son of Jurren and Dina (Rops) Kramer. He attended country school in rural Allison. Following school, John began farming with his family on the family farm in rural Clarksville. On February 25, 1938, John was united in marriage to Carrie Kluiter near Allison. The couple made their home on a farm in rural Shell Rock until moving to the home farm in 1943. The couple raised their family and farmed until retiring and moving to their present home in Shell Rock in 1971. John was in fellowship with the Christians at the Hitesville Gospel Hall. He was saved on September 1, 1971, while attending gospel tent meetings conducted by Mr. Harold Paisley in Allison. He enjoyed traveling, taking pictures, woodworking, feeding the birds, hunting and trapping in his early years, flowers and especially spending time with his family and friends. John is survived by his wife, Carrie of Shell Rock; five children, Ilene Uhlenhopp and her husband Bruce of Cedar Rapids, Leroy Kramer and his wife Laurie of rural Clarksville, Gerald Kramer and his wife Gwen of Shell Rock, Dean Kramer and his wife Lois of rural Bristow, Randy Kramer and his wife Theone of rural Shell Rock; one brother, Pete Kramer and his wife Elsena of Clarksville; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and by several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Tena Behrends; and by six siblings in infancy. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2004, at the Hitesville Gospel Hall in rural Aplington at 10:30 A.M. Burial will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Shell Rock. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Shell Rock. Memorials may be directed to Shell Rock Health Care Center, Cedar Valley Hospice or to the family.
Marie Kothenbeutel

Marie Kothenbeutel, 86, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away December 4, 2004, at the Allison Care Center in Allison, Iowa. She was born September 27, 1918, in Crawford County, Iowa to Andreas & Anna (Lackman) Lorenzen. Marie attended Crawford County Public Schools. At the age of 18 she came to Hampton to live. There she met Kenneth Kothenbeutel and on November 16, 1940, they were married. They enjoyed life together for almost 54 years when he found comfort in God’s hands. Marie enjoyed many things in life especially her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards with her many friends and spent much time crocheting afghans for family and friends. She enjoyed bowling and was League Secretary for many years. She also worked as a Nurse’s Aide in her younger years and owned the bowling alley in Sheffield for several years. She leaves to join her son Larry who died in 1958 and her husband Kenneth in 1994. Living family members include two sons Robert & wife Karla Kothenbeutel of Woodinville, Washington, Dallas Kothenbeutel of St. Charles, Illinois; daughter Linda & husband James Schafer of Greene; brother Andreas & wife Elna Lorenzen of Connecticut; special sister-in-law Phyl Lorenzen of Denison; brother Elmer Lorenzen of Manilla; brother Marvin & wife LaRoice Lorenzen of Manilla; four grandchildren: Lisa & husband Chris Syhlman, Kimberly Kothen-beutel, Robbie Kothenbeutel, Ryan & wife Jennifer Kothenbeutel and three great grandchildren: Cheyenne Syhlman, Sheldon Syhlman, and Abigail Kothenbeutel. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth in 1994, son Larry in 1958, five brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at the Hampton United Methodist Church with Rev. Bob Connor officiating. Special music was provided by organist Jean Sandvig accom-panying the special music of Viola Koenen and Ryan Kothenbeutel. Ushers were Ray Ziegler, Orval Marts and Ed Hansen. Pallbearers were Gene Brass, Dale Johnson, Keith Craighton, Don Koethenbeutel, Robert Torgerson and Dick Kothenbeutel. Honorary pallbearers were Allyn Freese, Harry Reysack and George Scofield. Final resting place was in the Hampton Cemetery with Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.


 LaVonne A. Lines

Funeral services for LaVonne A. Lines, 79, 2530 Hickory Avenue, Marble Rock, will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 7, 2004, at the United Methodist Church, Marble Rock, with Pastor Kenneth Kent officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Marble Rock. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, December 6, 2004, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, Marble Rock, and will continue at the church, Tuesday, one hour before services. LaVonne Arline Daughenbaugh was born August 14, 1925 in Charles City, Floyd County, a daughter of Seigel Calvin and Hazel Dora (Davis) Daughenbaugh, and died Friday, December 3, 2004, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City. From and early age on, LaVonne was raised by her grandparents, Calvin and Bertha (Strawn) Daughenbauch in Charles City. During her junior year in high school she moved to live with her father at Elk River, MN. In 1944 she graduated from Polaris North High School in St. Paul. On April 10, 1949 she was united in marriage to Merland Cletus Lines at the United Methodist Church, Marble Rock. They farmed in rural Marble Rock and to this union were five children. Following Merland’s death on February 8, 2001, she continued to live on the farm until her recent illness. LaVonne was a devoted wife and mother, tending to the needs of her husband and children, she exemplified the true meaning of love. She loved and cherished her family and the special friends that she came to know through out her life’s travels. LaVonne enjoyed being a mother and grandmother, more than anything else. She loved children of all ages, but was especially fond of babies. She also enjoyed the cats at the farm. Her interests included keeping up on what was going on by reading newspapers, and keeping in touch with family and friends. LaVonne was a member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was a charter member of the Hi Neighbor Club and was instrumental in naming the club. LaVonne will be sadly missed by her children: two daughters: Joyce (Rick) Hana-Osterman of Lake Mills and Debra Lines of Leland;one son ,Bruce Lines, of Minneapolis, and two grandchildren: Craig David Hanna and Kayla Marie Hanna. She was preceded in death by two sons: Craig in 1970, Juhl in 1994, her husband and parents. Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the LaVonne A. Raymond Siems

Raymond Siems, age 79, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the son of Fred and Tillie Hovenga Siems on April 18, 1925, on a farm near Dumont in Butler County, Iowa. He received his education in a country school near his home. Ray was united in marriage with Doris Wildeboer on February 2, 1952, at Washington Reformed Church parsonage. He served in the U.S. Army from June 19, 1946 to May 28, 1947. Ray worked as a mechanic in Ackley. Later he was employed by the Oliver Company in Charles City and he retired from White Farm Equipment in Charles City in 1987. After his retirement, he worked at CARD in Clarksville. He also delivered parts for Bumper to Bumper in Clarksville and for Lodge Machine. Ray was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville. He was also a member of Clarksville AMVETs. He enjoyed golfing, the Minnesota Twins and Vikings games. Other favorites were Fords, NASCAR racing and spending time with his Siberian Husky, Molly. He was known as “Mr. Fix-it” and could repair almost anything including clocks, sewing machines and golf carts. Raymond died Tuesday, November 30, 2004, at the Waverly Health Care Center in Waverly, Iowa, from natural causes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris on September 18, 1996; his parents; one sister, Sena Franken and three brothers, Sweer, John and Fred Siems. He is survived by two sons, Randy (Candy) Siems, Jesup, Iowa and Brad (Tracie) Siems, Waverly, Iowa; two daughters, Sandra (Dave) Smith, Nora Springs, Iowa and Terri Siems, Waverly, Iowa; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother, Ben (Edna) Siems, Ackley, Iowa and two sisters, Marian (LaVern) Boelts, Wellsburg, Iowa and Betty (Marvin) Boelts, Holland, Iowa. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 3, 2004, at the Immanuel United Church of Christ, Clarksville, Iowa with Pastor David Walters officiating. Organist Harriet Forry accompanied Congregational Hymns”Old Rugged Cross,” “Some Glad Morning” and “Amazing Grace”. Casketbearers were Chuck Franken, Darwin Johnson, Bill Rosenwinkle, John Ross, Jeramy Siems and Terry Norton. Honorary Casketbearer was Duane Johnson. Flower Committee was Bill and Barb Crane. Interment was in Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville, Iowa with Military Rites provided by Clarksville AMVETS Post #30. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Clarksville, was in charge of arrangements. Carrie Bertram, 86, of the Allison Care Center, and formerly of Clarksville, died Saturday morning, December 4, 2004, at the care center. She was born on February 15, 1918, in rural Aplington, Iowa, the daughter of Bert and Tillie (Alberts) Miller. She married Fred Bertram on January 26, 1938. The couple farmed near Allison until 1969 when they moved to town. Carrie was a devoted wife, mother, and home maker, and had also worked for the City of Allison and later the Butler County Courthouse. The couple later moved to Clarksville. On April 16, 1987, Fred died and Carrie continued to live in her home until August of 2000 when she moved to the Allison Care Center. Carrie enjoyed watching birds and gardening. Her family, though, was her life and she most enjoyed spending time with them. She is survived by her four sons and their spouses, Larry and Claudia of Aplington, Kenny of Clarksville, Dan and Diane of Shell Rock, Ron and Terri of Shell Rock; 11 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Bertilda (Korte) Freese, Mildred (Chris) Ridder, Frances (Ted) Stubbe, Phyllis (William) Aalderks all of Aplington; and three brothers, John (Joan) Miller, Delbert (Delores) Miller, and Daniel Miller all of Aplington. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred; one daughter, Janice; one son, Scott; one grandson, Nathan; 4 sisters, Cornelia Jungling, Henrietta Mennen, Madaline Cordes, Marion Cordes; and one brother, Merle Miller. Celebration of Life Memorial services will be 10:30 AM on Tuesday, December 7, 2004, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Shell Rock, with burial of the cremains in the Allison Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, December 5, 2004, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel in Greene, where there will be a public Scripture Service at 4:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Monday one hour before services. Anna F. Litterer was born September 17, 1922, in rural Riverton Township, Floyd County, a daughter of Fred and A. Marie Scheidecker, and died Friday, December 3, 2004, at Liebe Care Center in Greene.. She was baptized October 15, 1922 at her parent’s home, and confirmed on May 9, 1937, at St. John Evangelical, Pleasant Hill, rural Nashua. She received her education and graduated from the Greene High School in 1942. She received her teaching certificate from the Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls. On September 6, 1943, she was united in marriage to Francis Lyle Brinkman at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Anna accompanied her husband to the various military locations where he was stationed during World War II. Following his discharge they returned to Greene where they started farming on the Crabapple farm, remaining there until 1968 when they moved into their new home in town. Anna and Francis enjoyed ten winters in Mercedes, TX. Her interests included puzzles, card games, gardening, and canning. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who’s paramount concern was the needs of her family. She was a very humble lady that provided deep inner strength for her loved ones. She was a faithful member of St. Peter Lutheran Church where she served on the Altar Guild, taught Sunday School, and was a member of WELCA. She will be sadly missed by her daughter: Sue Wheat of Greene; three sons: Gale Lee (Mary K.) Brinkman, Joe Francis (Sue) Brinkman all of Greene, Mark Henry (Carla) Brinkman of Williamsburg, nine grandchildren: Erin Brinkman and her Fiance’, Steve Mulder, John (Lindsay) Brinkman, Becky (Tim) Newton, Rachelle and Mary Wheat, Megan, Lindsay, Nathan, and Alison Brinkman; one great grandchild: Derek Brinkman; two sisters-in-law Vera Litterer of Charles City, Mabel Litterer of Greene, one brother-in-law: Bernard Horn of Nashua. Anna leaves to join her husband Francis who died May 20, 2004, an infant son in 1945, a daughter: Kay F. Brinkman in 1949; one grandson: Allan Wheat in 1976; her parents, one sister: Eva Horn; and two brothers: Leonard Litterer and Louis Litterer. Robert Yarcho, 86, of Shell Rock, Iowa, formerly of New Hartford, Iowa, died on Sunday, December 12, 2004, at the Shell Rock Care Center due to natural causes. Robert was born on February 28, 1918, in rural Butler County, Iowa, the son of William E. and Lydia L. (Ruege) Yarcho. After his schooling, Robert went to work to help support his family. On September 10, 1948, he was united in marriage to Maxine Buchholz in Clarksville, Iowa. The couple lived in the Clarksville and Shell Rock areas until purchasing a farm near New Hartford. They lived on their farm until moving back to Shell Rock, most recently at the Shell Rock Care Center. Maxine passed away on August 27, 2003. Robert is survived by four daughters and their spouses, Pat & Steve Moore of New Hartford, Pam & Howard Kyhl of New Hartford, Joan & Leland Ackerson of Janesville, Iowa, and Jackie & Ed Manuell of Salt Lake City, Utah; one son and his spouse, Bob & Diane Yarcho of Shell Rock; ten grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Louise Lalan of Shell Rock and Norma Lee Hudspith of Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one sister, Ruth; and four brothers, Floyd, Emil, Albert, and Paul. Memorial services were held on Wednesday, December 15, 2004, at the New Hartford United Methodist Church. Burial was in Lynwood Cemetery in Clarksville. Ann Fleener, 75, of Grundy Center, died Friday, December 10, 2004 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital under the care of the Cedar Valley Hospice. Ann was born June 29, 1929, in Clarksville, Iowa, the daughter of Matthew and Jennie Wolters Frericks. She attended and graduated from Greene High School in 1947. On November 6, 1951, she was united in marriage to William Earl Fleener. Ann worked for Sears-Roebuck and Co. for 15 years. She then worked for the Department of Human Services in Volunteer Action for 15 years. Earl passed away on January 27, 2000. Survivors include her son Clair and his wife Stacey of Omaha, Nebraska; eight grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rena Town and Grace Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl in 2000, her parents, a stepson Jimmy Fleener, and a stepdaughter Janet Anderson; three brothers Lindy, George and LeRoy Frericks, and a sister Alice Druvenga. Memorial graveside services were held Tuesday, December 14, 2004, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. A memorial fund has been established. Margaret Davis was born May 24, 1918 at her parents farm in rural Ionia, Chickasaw County, a daughter of Frank and Ella (Oelson) Davis, and died Thursday, December 9, 2004, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City. She was baptized October 6, 1918 at the Ionia Congregational Church and received her education and graduated from the Ionia High School in 1936. On January 29, 1938 she was united in marriage to Darrell B. Butzlaff at St. James Lutheran Parsonage in Mason City. To this union were born five sons. Margaret was a devoted wife and mother, who worked hard to provide for her family. She was employed by Dralles Department Store in Greene for 19 ½ years, retiring in 1986. She became a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church where she served faithfully on the Altar Committee for several years. She will be sadly missed by her three sons: Robert (Leanne) Butzlaff of Indio, CA, Donald Butzlaff of New Bloomfield, MO, John (special friend Sue Jeffcott) Butzlaff of Des Moines; seven grandchildren: Todd (Jennifer), Ronald, Troy, Trent (Kathy), Stacie, B.J., and Danielle Butzlaff, nine great grandchildren: Joel, Paige, Aimie, Trent Andrew, Jared, Margaret, Clar, Ashley, Cody, and Claire Marie. Duane Stanley Dix, age 74, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the son of Henry and Mary (Roberts) Dix on June 22, 1930, New Hartford, Iowa. He received his education and graduated from the Jesup High School in Jesup, Iowa. On October 1, 1950, Duane was united in marriage with Muriel Louise Schrage at St. James Lutheran Church in Allison, Iowa. They made their home on farms near Allison, Clarksville and Kesley. In 1998 they moved to Aplington and retired from farming. Following his retirement Duane did construction work with his son-in-laws, Randy Aalderks and Clint Uhlenhopp. Duane was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Aplington. He did mission work in Belize, the Philippines and also was a full Gospel Lay Pastor. Duane liked to go deer hunting and fishing, very much enjoyed their trips to Canada. He especially loved spending time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Duane died on Monday, December 6, 2004, at the Maple Manor Care Center in Aplington, Iowa, of natural causes. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Todd; his parents; a sister, Helen Ruthenberg; and three brothers, Lloyd Dix as a child, Donald Dix and Lee Dix. Duane is survived by his wife, Muriel Dix of Aplington; three sons, Kim (Brenda) Dix of Kesley, Iowa; Brett (Margaret) Dix of Aplington, Iowa; and Nick (Kelli) Dix of Stout, Iowa; four daughters, Dinah (David) Grant of Goldsmith, Indiana; Renee (Clint) Uhlenhopp of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Joy (Kevin) Beirne of Davenport, Iowa; and Camie (Randy) Aalderks of Aplington, Iowa; 26 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ken (Flo) Dix of Arizona; two sisters, Opal Reams of Evansdale, Iowa and Eileen Smith of Waterloo, Iowa; and one sister-in-law, Kathryn Dix of Cedar Falls, Iowa. Paul Keith Wiegmann

Paul Keith Wiegmann, age 52, of Ackley, Iowa, was born the son of Wilbur Conrad and Harmina Eilderts Wiegmann on December 14, 1951, in Waterloo, Iowa. He graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1970 and attended Hawkeye Tech Auto Mechanics training for one year. Paul was united in marriage with Carla Zabel Gaede on June 29, 1991, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg, Iowa. The couple lived most of their married life in Ackley. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg. Paul drove truck for Top Air of Cedar Falls for 13 years before he retired due to illness. He was a fun-loving truck driver who was always requested by his customers. Paul enjoyed fishing, camping and walking his dog, Sandy. He loved to spend time with his wife, Carla. Paul died Sunday, December 12, 2004, at his home in Ackley of complications of a cancer illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Harmina Wiegmann. He is survived by his wife, Carla Wiegmann of Ackley, Iowa; his son, Paul Gaede, Sr., Parkersburg, Iowa; six grandchildren, Paul Gaede, Jr.; Philip, Jade, Samantha Jo, Samantha Josephine and Patrick-Wane; two brothers, David (Jann) Wiegmann, Parkersburg and Galen (Brenda) Wiegmann, Parkersburg, Iowa; four nieces and two nephews. Funeral Services were at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 16, 2004, at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg, Iowa, with Pastor Paul Schaedig and Rev. Randy Crane officiating. The Organist was Linda Truax, the congregational hymns were “Amazing Grace” and “In the Garden.” Special Music was “You Were Loved” and “Psalm 151.” The casketbearers were Casey Wiegmann, Cody Wiegmann, Scott Wildeboer, Gerald Echelberry, Ruben Janssen and Lynn Richtsmeier. Magdalene Wilhelmine Krull

Magdalene Wilhelmine Krull, age 92, of Dumont Wellness Center, was born February 7, 1912, the daughter of Emme and Ebelina Meyer Harms in rural South Dakota. At age 5 the family moved to Iowa. She received her education in Washington Township Country School in Butler County, Iowa. She was united in marriage with Edward Krull on February 25, 1932, at First Reformed Parsonage in Aplington, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple lived and farmed in Madison Township, north of Kesley, Iowa. After living several other places in the area they returned to Kesley in 1977. In the fall of 1996 she moved to the Dumont Care Center in Dumont, Iowa. Magdalene was a member of Washington Reformed Church, rural Ackley, Iowa. There she was active in Ladies Aid and taught Sunday School. Magdalene was a homemaker who enjoyed quilting and other types of handiwork. She enjoyed raising flowers and taking care of her flower beds. She especially loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and also her church family. Magdalene died Monday, December 13, 2004 at the Dumont Wellness Center, Dumont, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward in April, 1978; her parents; four brothers, Louie, Henry, John and Harry Harms; seven sisters, Jennie Korte, Anna Carolus, Dena Bierman, Dora Buseman, Grace Maifeld, Emma Klahsen and Reka Buseman. She is survived by one son, Eldon (Frances) Krull of Aplington, Iowa; three daughters, Beverly (Walter) Lupkes of Ackley, Iowa; Judy (Wayne) Koenen of Mankato, Minnesota and Mavis (Darwin) Kampman of Aplington, Iowa; thirteen grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandson. Funeral Services were at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 17, 2004, at the Washington Reformed Church, Ackley, Iowa, with Rev. Jack Ritsema officiating. T he organist was Gertrude Ackerman, the soloist was Ann Lupkes and sang “What a Day That Will Be,” and the congregational hymns were “Ivory Palaces” and “I Won’t Have To Cross Jordan Alone.” The honorary casketbearers were Brent Koenen, Brian Lupkes, Mike Bus, Curt Wilson, Tom Kroontje, Mark Matheny and Corey Wagner. Lavon L. Horn, 84, of Nashua passed away Sunday afternoon, December 12, 2004 at the Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, December 17, 2004 at St. John United church of Christ / Pleasant Hill rural Nashua with burial in Pleasant Hill cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. She is survived by her husband Robert of Nashua; a son, Loren Horn of Nashua; a daughter, Karen (ken) Knight of Parker, CO; a granddaughter, Amy (Dale) Launstein of Holland, IA; one great granddaughter, Jordan Launstein; one step-great grandson: Jaydon Launstein; two step-granddaughters: Kristina & Kimberly Knight; one step great grandson: Logan Reed; one sister, Sylvia Grekoff; one sister-in-law, Darlene Kiehn, one brother-in-law, Bernard Horn and several nieces and nephews. Lavon was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Emmet Kiehn. Lavon Laura Kiehn was born September 12, 1920 in Butler County, the daughter of Emil and Erna (Nordmeyer) Kiehn. During her teen years, she and her brother Emmet and sister, Sylvia played various musical instruments and performed at many get-togethers. On November 27, 1941, she was united in marriage to Robert Otto Horn at St. John’s Evangelical Reformed Church and the newlyweds settled on a farm on the Greene Road. Lavon and her husband were long-time farmers in Floyd County and while semi-retired had moved to an acreage in Chickasaw County. She and Bob had just celebrated their 63rd anniversary on November 27, and welcomed their first great grandchild, Jordan Lynn Launstein on November 26. Lavon enjoyed many activities and always kept her interest in music, whether it was piano, organ, accordion or guitar. She played for many weddings at the Little Brown Church and accompanied the men’s quartet (of which Bob and Bernard Horn were members) who performed at many local functions. When Bob learned to fly and they had their own airplane, she took a pinch-hitter course and learned to land the plane. They enjoyed many trips together, the high-light of which was a trip to Alaska. She also helped in their winter placer-gold mining operation in New Mexico. She was a long time member of the Hobby Club, Flying Farmers, ladies Guild of St. John’s and also taught Sunday School and sang in the choir.
Albert Kluiter, Jr.

Albert Kluiter, Jr., age 82, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the son of Albert and Steintje (Klaassen) Kluiter on May 12, 1922, Butler Center, near Clarksville, Iowa. He received his education from Jefferson #4 country school. On June 15, 1949, Albert was united in marriage with Dorothy Luella Garbes at her parents’ home northeast of Clarksville, Iowa. They made their home and farmed northeast of Clarksville until 1961, when they moved to a farm on the Packard Blacktop west of Clarksville. Albert farmed his entire life. He also milked dairy cows and raised hogs. He sold Latham Seed for 15 years. Albert retired in July of 1993, when they moved to Allison. Later in 2000 they moved to the Clarksville Retirement Village and he entered the Community Nursing Home in Clarksville on November 17, 2004. Albert was in fellowship with the Christians at Hitesville Gospel Hall, Aplington, Iowa. He confessed his faith on October 4, 1947, at a tent meeting in Clarksville. 1 John 1:7. He loved his family very much and enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors. Albert died on Tuesday, December 14, 2004, at the Community Nursing Home in Clarksville, Iowa, of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, John, Sebo, Chris and Jerry Kluiter; and one sister, Minnie Harms. Albert is survived by his wife, Dorothy Kluiter of Clarksville, Iowa; three sons, Dallas (Rita) Kluiter of Allison, Iowa, Darwin (Eileen) Kluiter of Clarksville, Iowa and Allan (Julie) Kluiter of Clarksville, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Jason Kluiter, Jennifer (Colby) Elliott, Nathan Kluiter (fiance Nikkie Parton), Nicolas (Alyssa) Kluiter, Angela Kluiter (friend, Chris), Alex Kluiter and Amanda Kluiter; two great-grandchildren, Ashten Elliott and Kelton Kluiter; two sisters, Anna Jacobs of Allison, Iowa and Carrie Kramer of Shell Rock, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Kluiter of Shell Rock, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. The Ushers were Kenny Tack and Larry Ashe. The Flower Committee was Jean Scheidecker, Bob & Sherry Litterer and Fred & Minnie Feckers. Interment was at the Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Clarksville were in charge of arrangements. Memorials maybe directed to the family.
