Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Patrick Bullen and John "Jack" Bullen; one sister, Jeanne Fisher.

Jerome Harold "Jerry" Bullen was born April 3, 1936 in Albert Lea, Minn., the son of Harold J. and Mary Leone (Deviney) Bullen. They moved to Charles City, where Jerry attended Central Elementary School and later graduated from Charles City High School in 1954. His childhood in Charles City included family and friends and lots of cousins.

Jerry started to work for the Oliver Corp. in Charles City following graduation in 1954. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp on July 31, 1956 and was honorably discharged in July of 1958 with the rank of PFC. Jerry returned to Charles City and returned to work as a machinist with the Oliver Corp, where he remained until retiring in 1992. His enjoyment for golfing started early in his life at Wildwood Golf Course in Charles City where he learned from his brother-in-law, Leo Fisher, a teaching pro. He had many golfing buddies and was not above a friendly wager and a few beers. He enjoyed introducing young people to the game and teaching them the things he had learned when younger. Jerry took up trout fishing in Northeast Iowa with his father-in-law, V.L. "Bud" Strike, and his cronies and rumor has it that liquid refreshments helped to catch the fish.

In his later years Jerry kept busy as the self-appointed Good Will Ambassador for the community. Among the duties were his early morning rounds to the school kitchen, Casey's & Kwik Star, and to visit various friends & businesses. In addition, he ran an unofficial taxi service taking people to airports and taking his lady friends to doctors appointments, for groceries and shopping. Jerry also drove kids to pre-school and the golf team to their meets. And he performed as the telephone secretary for his wife's bridge club and entertained them with his antics.

Jerry spoiled the grand kids and the neighbor kids with his endless supply of candy and donuts. Employing a balance between doting on them and being stern, they all took him with a grain of salt. The grandsons affectionately called him "Bumpy" (a combination of Grandpa and grumpy). Renee--the only grand daughter--got to drive the golf cart.
