Lorraine Mae Korth was born Aug. 6, 1925, to Herbert and Anna (Haase) Kling in Taylor, Wis. The family later moved to Augusta, Wis. where Herbert worked as a blacksmith. Lorraine loved school from the beginning and graduated from Augusta High School at the age of 16. Had the times allowed, she wanted to become a teacher like her brothers Walt and Ken.

On July 1, 1944, Lorraine was married to Bud Tyler in Great Bend, Kan. For many of that generation, WW II disrupted many plans and the young couple was no exception. Bud Tyler's B29 was shot down over Tokyo Bay, and he perished helping others on the crew. The young widow and her infant son, Tim, had to face a new future. On June 22, 1947, Lorraine and Bill Korth were married at Augusta, Wis. Three more sons were born to this union, Mike, Chuck, and Ken. A nap was a victory for Grandma Lorraine! Halloween was a favorite holiday, and Lorraine was known in her neighborhood for her homemade popcorn balls.

Her circle of friends grew ever larger and no one sent out more birthday cards than Lorraine. Truly she loved people and they loved her. She had a servant heart and a heart for people everywhere she went. She traveled many places when Bill was at her side - Alaska, Hawaii, Europe, and Canada fishing trips. After the family New Year's celebration, winters were spent in the sunshine of Mesa, Ariz. Family trips to Laughlin were memorable for many.

"Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." Psalm 90:12 Lorraine's heart was wise, and kind, and brimming over with love for her family. The lessons of life were learned well. She will live on in the hearts of her family forever.

Lorraine is survived by her sons and their spouses: Tim Tyler (Cheryl) Spooner, Wis., Mike Korth (Carolynn) Forest City, Chuck Korth (Ruth) Cottage Grove, Ore., and Ken Korth (Cindy) Forest City. DONALD G SKOGEN
July 9, 1942 - October 14, 2013
Donald G SkogenDonald Gene Skogen, 71, of Rake, IA passed away on Monday, October 14, 2013 at St Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. He had a long battle with MS and then got a blood infection, which caused his kidneys to shut down. He was lucky to have all of his immediate family with him sometime during the four days he spent at the hospital.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday October 19th at 1:30 pm at Zion Lutheran Church in Rake, IA with Pastor Terry Mahnke officiating. There will be an hour visitation prior to the service. Burial will follow at West Cemetery in Rake, IA.

Visitation will be held on Friday evening October 18th from 4-7 pm at Zion Lutheran Church in Rake, IA.

Don was born on July 9, 1942 at his parents' home in rural Rake, IA to Nordahl and Inez (Varland) Skogen. He was a life long member of Zion Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. He attended and graduated from Rake High School in 1960. On August 4, 1962 he married the love of his life, Carolyn Askeland. They were blessed to spend 51 years together and from this union they were blessed with 3 girls, Tammy, Nancy and Julie.

For most of Don's adult life he was a farmer. He was even a salesman for Funk's G seed for many years. Later during his farming career MS took away the ability for Don to use his legs but he was still very active in what was going on in and around the field. He would call himself the manager of the farm and in the end he enjoyed hauling the meals to the field.

Don was diagnosed with MS in 2005. He had already been accustomed to being in his wheelchair years prior, but now he knew why. He never let it bother him and had a smile on his face. People would ask him how he was and his response was, “There's room for improvement.”

Don enjoyed his sports teams and talking to many about statistics, scores and placing a casual bet for $5 or pizza. Many bets were never paid back. He just loved the phone calls he could give after the game and even the ones he received.

He also had a passion to be with his family. Having 3 daughters meant that boys would come later. He loved giving his son-in-laws “5 minute jobs”. Family gatherings were many and the last one was spent in Rochester with all of his family around him. What a legacy he has left for all of us.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Carolyn; 3 daughters Tammy (Jerry) Zabel, Blue Earth, Nancy (Todd) Hanevik, Blue Earth, Julie (Tim) Weaver, Buffalo Center; 6 grandchildren, Jamie (Ben) Reverts, Tony Boehm, Brandon (Kristen) Hanevik, Brady Hanevik, Tanner Weaver and Colin Weaver; 4 Great Grandchildren Peyton and Kyler Reverts and Ethan and Dylan Hanevik, sister Carol Thompson and brother Merle (Junice) Skogen, and many nieces and nephews and numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Norman, infant brother and sister.
