Kenneth Pannhoff, 80

Kenneth "Kenny" D. Pannhoff, 80, of Garner, died on Friday, July 1, 2005, at the Concord Care Center in Garner.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 6, at the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ in Klemme, with Rev. Donna Buckman officiating. Burial, with full military honors, was in the Ell Township Cemetery, with the Andrews Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Kenneth D., the son of John and Anna (Heginger) Pannhoff, was born on July 23, 1924, on a farm northeast of Klemme. Kenneth attended Ell Township, Hancock County Schools. As a young man he worked for various farmers before serving in the United States Army as an MP in Germany commencing in 1945. Following his military tenure he returned to the Garner area where he farmed for seven years. He was employed with the Hancock County ASCS Office for several years, with the Forester Trailer Company in Forest City and with the Triggs Trailer Company in Kanawha before retirement. Kenny was united in marriage with Frances D. Otto on January 13, 1956, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple lived in Klemme from 1962 until 1982, when they moved to Kanawha and later to the Concord Care Center.

Kenny enjoyed taking his family on fishing excursions, riding motorcycles and was a avid gardener. He had a life-long love of music and was a self-taught accordion player. He loved to dance and had met his wife at a dance. Those who knew Kenny remember his enjoyment of joking and his sense of humor.

He is survived by his sons, Jim of Forest City, Al (Connie) of Sac City and Doug (Tracie) of Klemme; daughters, Patty and special friend, Dan of Klemme and Sharon (Donny) Reysack of Klemme; brothers, Merle (Ruth) Pannhoff of Mason City and Raymond "Sharky" (Lorena) Pannhoff of Ventura; sisters, Mary (Curt) Clark of Forest City and Marlene Pannhoff of Mason City; grandchildren, Teri Jo Cohrs, Andy Cohrs, Tanya Harley, Jeremy Pannhoff, Michael Pannhoff, Nathan Pannhoff, Ashley Pannhoff, Telsie and Brittney Pannhoff, Serena and Collin Pannhoff; great-grandchildren, Harli and Brokkly, McKenna and Morgan, Damarion, MacKenzy and Treveina.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frannie; brothers, Dean and Lyle; and sister, Arlene.

Karen White, 51

Karen Vaage White, 51, of Joice, completed her journey here on earth on Saturday, July 2, 2005.

She lived most of her life in Iowa, mainly in the Forest City and Joice areas. Karen was a long-time employee of Winnebago Industries, having completed over 30 years with the maintenance department. One of her dreams was fulfilled when she and her husband purchased a home in the country near Joice. She spent many hours watching wildlife, working with her flowers and enjoying her cats. For the last 17 months her granddaughter, Danielle was the highlight of her life.

Karen was a very special woman who touched the lives of many people and will be greatly missed, especially by her husband, Whitey; her son, Dan and his wife, Denise and Dannielle White of Lake Mills; and her step-daughter, Julie and family, Tony and Sebastian Phillips.

Everett Bonorden, 79

Everett L. Bonorden, 79, of Kenyon, Minnesota, died on Sunday, July 3, 2005.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 9, at the First Evangelical United Church in Kenyon, with Pastor Luther Mathsen and Pastor Nancy Edwardson officiating. Interment was in the Kenyon Cemetery. Casket bearers were Daniel, Paul, Thomas, Bruce and Steven Bonorden, Roxanne Rolstad and Christine Gremillion.

Everett Louis, the son of Otto and Ina (Sauerbrei) Bonorden, was born on August 29, 1925 near LaPorte City. He was raised in the LaPorte area and graduated from the Tripoli High School in 1943. He enlisted in the Navy and upon his discharge, traveled with his brother. He was united in marriage with Neoma Menuey on December 7, 1947, at a country church near Tripoli. They lived in Waterloo, Waverly and Forest City, where he retired from Winnebago Industries. They lived in Washington before moving to Kenyon in 1998.

Everett loved watching sports, golfing, bowling, camping and painting. He was an avid Hawkeye fan.

Everett is survived by his wife, Neoma of Kenyon; sons, Daniel of Ames, Thomas (Lisa) of Bothel, Washington, Steven (Heather) of Roanoke, Virginia, Bruce of Sitka, Alaska and Paul (Toni) of Snohomish, Washington; daughters, Christine (Paul) Gremillion of Forest City and Roxanne (Fred) Rolstad of Kenyon; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Leroy of Austin, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Samantha Rolstad; a grandson, Luke Bonorden; and brothers, Rutherford and Virgil.

Vernon Nyhus, 82

Vernon Nyhus, 82, of Mason City, died from heart complications on Saturday, July 9, 2005, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 13, at the Fullerton Funeral Home in Mason City, with Pastor George D. Calhoun officiating. Interment will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City, with military rites accorded by the Mason City Memorial Association. The Fullerton Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Vernon DeVere, was born on April 23, 1923, on the farm in rural Leland, to Henry L. and Clara B. (Jorgensen) Nyhus. He attended and graduated from the Leland High School with the class of 1941. He was inducted into the Army Air Corps on February 3, 1943, serving as a radio operator and gunner. While stationed overseas in England he completed a tour of 35 bombardment missions with the 8th Air Force, 390th Bomb Group and the 571st B Squadron. Vernon honorably and faithfully served his country during World War II, being discharged on September 16, 1945. He moved to Mason City in 1953. On September 30, 1956, Vernon was united in marriage to Elaine Nelson in Mason City. Throughout his working life Vernon was employed as a heavy equipment operator, with both Percy and Henkel Construction Companies until retiring in 1978.

Vernon had been active in the Barber Shop Chorus with the Mason City Chapter and was also a member of the Community of Christ Church in Clear Lake. Vernon's interests include being a great servant while helping others, an avid fisherman, walker and baseball. His favorite team was the St. Louis Cardinals and he also followed the Minnesota Twins. He will be best remembered for being a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, treasuring time spent with his family.

Grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in Vernon's life are his wife, Elaine (Nelson) Nyhus of Mason City; daughter, Lannette (Pastor George) Calhoun of Milton, Wisconsin; granddaughter, Sarah Calhoun of Madison, Wisconsin; two grandsons, Benjamin (Alison) Calhoun and Joshua Calhoun, both of Elgin, Illinois; as well as many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Ferne Hirt, Mavis Hermansen, Hazel Ingebretson and Jane Lopez; and two brothers, Harry and Richard Nyhus.

Mae Dietz, 86

Mae Dietz, 86, of Thompson, died on Sunday, July 10, 2005, in Lake Mills, at the home of her grandson, Brian celebrating her great-grandson, Joseph's baptism.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 13, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson, with Rev. Mark Decker officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt, with the Mittelstadt Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mae was born on July 15, 1918 near Rochester, Minnesota, the daughter of Harry and Emma (Johnson) Hanson. She was baptized at home and confirmed at the St. John's Lutheran Church at Kasson, Minnesota. Mae received her education at Byron, Minnesota, graduating with the class of 1936.  On May 17, 1941, Mae was united in marriage with Harry "Jack" Dietz. They farmed near the Dows, Waterloo and Britt areas. In 1953, Jack and Mae purchased their farm south of Thompson and in 1976 they retired to their home in Thompson.

Mae was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church, where she was active with the ELCW and Sarah Circle. She was also a member of the Young-At-Heart and Queens Card Club.

Survivors include her daughters, Harriet Young and her husband, Bill of Lake Mills and Bonnie Bakken and her husband, Gerald of Northwood; five grandchildren, Julie (Bill) Cooney, Jeff (Melody) Bakken, Dawn (Leslie) Madson, Jennifer (Tim) Haugebak and Brian (Tracy) Young; 10 great-grandchildren, Olivia Madson, Joseph Young, Morgan Young, Kyle Hejna, Morgan Hejna, Jakeb Bakken, Jaclyn Bakken, Jayson Bakken, Tyler Haugebak and Garet Haugebak; sisters-in-law, Grayce Thompson of Iowa Falls and Louise Hanson of Rochester, Minnesota; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Richard in 1998; great-granddaughter, Hillary Madson; and a brother, Clifford Hanson.

Brian Rauk, 53

Brian Rauk, 53, of Forest City, died on Monday, July 11, 2005, at the St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 14, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, with Rev. Lee Laaveg officiating. Burial was in the Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City, with the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Brian J. Rauk, was born in Forest City, Iowa, on December 26, 1951, the son of Carlton and Ruby (Lund) Rauk. He was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, where he was a life-long member. He received his education in the Forest City Schools, graduated from Waldorf College and attended Iowa State University in Ames. After Iowa State he began farming with his father. He married Jan Gesme on July 22, 1978 and Forest City has been their home ever since. Brian worked as a rural mail carrier at the Forest City Post Office for over 30 years.

He was a Twins and Cyclones fan and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Brian is survived by his wife, Jan of Forest City; three sons, Kevin and wife, Karla of Garner, Jay of Ames and Todd of Forest City; his parents, Carlton "Pete" and Ruby Rauk of Forest City; and sisters, Diane Rovang and fiancée, Robert Nordin of Eagan, Minnesota, Pam Hertel of Janesville, Wisconsin and Pat Formanek and husband, Doug of Forest City.

Brian was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Eunice Paulson, 90

Eunice Paulson, 90, died on Monday, July 11, 2005, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 14, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, with Rev. Lee Laaveg officiating. Burial was in the Madison Township Cemetery, rural Forest City, with the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Eunice, the daughter of Ruth Byrl (Monson) and Arthur Underwood, was born on February 12, 1915 in Bristal Township, Worth County, Iowa. She lived in different areas until school age when they moved to rural Lake Mills. She moved with her parents to Forest City at the age of 10. She was baptized at the Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, where she has been a member ever since. On March 1, 1936, she was united in marriage to Paul Paulson.

She belonged to the Ellington LRA Club and circles at Immanuel and for some time to the Senior Citizens Kum Along Club.

She is survived by her children, Robert and Max of Forest City, Mary Jane at the Woodward State Hospital School and Shirlee Trent of Fort Dodge; four grandsons; one granddaughter; seven great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and five brothers, Ashael, Ellsworth, Duane, Virgil and Ardell.

Dorothy Brown, 84

Dorothy L. Brown, 84, died on Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at the home of her daughter in Glenwood.

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 15, at the First Congregational Church in Forest City. The Petersen Lund Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Dorothy L., the daughter of Norman and Maude (Johnson) Thurston, was born on May 6, 1921 in Forest City. Dorothy had graduated from the Forest City High School, attended Waldorf College and the American Institute of Business in Des Moines. She was united in marriage to Roger Peterson for six months before he was killed during WW II as a fighter pilot. In 1946, she was married to Rodger Clark Brown of Forest City. They enjoyed many years together traveling world wide and in their Winnebago motorhome.

Dorothy enjoyed many activities and was especially an avid bridge player. She loved shopping, interior decorating, singing and playing the piano and organ. She had a special interest in agriculture and managed Thurston Farms for 15 years after Rodger's death. She married Benjamin Gibson in 1995, where they enjoyed living in the Lodge of Ashworth in West Des Moines until his death.

She is survived by a daughter, Dr. Sally and Dr. Tony Prickett; two grandsons; sister-in-law, Irene Brown of Somers, Connecticutt; and nephews, Robert and John Thurston; and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; brother, Richard Thurston; and step-son, David T. Brown.

Sydney Endreland, 82

Sydney Endreland, 82, of Lake Mills, died on Sunday, July 17, 2005, at his home in rural Lake Mills, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Disease.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 20, at the Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church, rural Joice, with Rev. Kevin Olson officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Forest City, with the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Sydney Endreland, was born on October 19, 1922 at Oakland, Minnesota, the son of Ole Berge and Carrie Malinda (Hill) Endreland. Sydney was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended country school in Minnesota. In 1931, he moved with his parents to a farm northeast of Thompson and finished grade school in King No. 1. He graduated from the Thompson High School in 1940 and then farmed with his father a number of years. On September 21, 1947, he was united in marriage to Arlene Joy Samuelson at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. The couple continued farming until the fall of 1972 when Syd began working at Winnebago Industries. They bought an acreage near Lake Mills and moved there in February of 1973. Syd retired in 1986.

In his younger years he belonged to the King 4-H Club and eventually became its leader. He was on the Farm Bureau Board, Extension Committee and held numerous offices in his church, the last being elder. Syd worked hard all his life, enjoyed traveling and driving a car, but his greatest joy was his family. He was a kind and loving husband and father and a real pillar to his wife and family. He dearly loved his Lord and Savior and his biggest concern was that others would come to know the Lord Jesus, especially his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 58 years, Arlene; daughters, Judy Hector of Fairmont, Minnesota and her special friend, Bob Beck and Nancy Endreland of Slater; a son, John (Luann) Endreland of Ames; grandchildren, Tammy Petersen, Pamela Petersen, Brent Petersen, Jeremy Petersen and his fiancée, Tessa Schlomann, Marisa Grimm and her husband, Mike, Rachel Endreland and Kyle Endreland; great-grandchildren, Marcus, Austin and Brenna Petersen; Ace, Bastian, Damian and Amaja Grimm; Dylan, Leah and Carter Petersen; and one step-great-grandson, Devin Schlomann; sister, Alice Robinson and husband, Melvin of Alamo, Texas; a brother, Kenneth Enderland of Springdale, Arkansas; sisters-in-law, Marlys (Boyd) Loveless, Margaret Bolk and Mattie Tweeten; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Berge and his wife, Avis; a sister, Helen Madson and her husband, Ingram; and a sister-in-law, Avis Endreland.

Karen Leibrand, 66

Karen Leibrand, 66, of Buffalo Center, died on Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at the Parker Oaks Assisted Living in Winnebago, Minnesota.

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 22, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City, with the Rev. Vic Vriesen officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Forest City, with the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Karen Yvonne, was born on October 6, 1938, on a farm near Crystal Lake, the daughter of Roy E. and Clara J. (Olson) Hanson. Karen received her education in the Hayfield School System. After graduation, she was united in marriage with Harlan Blanshan. They made their home in Forest City until Harlan passed away in 1962. Karen was united in marriage to Ron Gordon. In 1989, Karen was united in marriage to Lawrence Leibrand. Karen always was an extremely hard-working woman, be it in the meat locker she worked in and then owned with Ron for years or at Fleetguard in Lake Mills where she worked for many years until her retirement.

In her earlier years, she enjoyed the outdoors - hunting, fishing and camping with family and friends. She was also involved in bowling leagues for many years in Buffalo Center as well as the VFW Auxiliary. Later in life she enjoyed coffee with the ladies and her trips to the casino.

Karen is survived by her husband, Lawrence of Buffalo Center; her children, Douglas of Albert Lea, David of Buffalo Center and Ann (Chuck) Wenthold of Jefferson; three grandchildren, Jessica, Adam and Ashley Blanshan; three sisters, Wanda Book and husband, Dell of Forest City, Marge Gustafson of Taylors Falls, Minnesota and Dorothy Gettis of Salem, Oregon; a brother, Wally Hanson of Salem, Oregon; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harlan; a sister; and a brother.

Forrest Peterson, 72

Forrest Peterson, 72, of Forest City, died on Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services were held on Monday, July 25, at the United Methodist Church in Forest City, with the Rev. Catherine Luck officiating. Music was provided by organist, Nancy Farndale who accompanied soloist, Lindsay Eckerman and congregational hymns. Honorary bearers were the past and present members of the Forest City Fire Department and his co-worker, Stan Thompson. Casket bearers were Brian Peterson, Dan Peterson, Andrea Peterson, Valerie Matters, Kelly Matters, Lisa Brighton, Doug Peterson and Dwight Nelson. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery, with military rites by the Forest City Veterans Ceremonial Unit. The Petersen Lund Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Forrest Lester, the son of Melvin and Edith (Anderson) Peterson, was born on April 10, 1933, on a farm in Ellington Township, Hancock County. He was baptized and confirmed at the Winnebago Lutheran Church and attended the rural schools of Mt. Valley Township in Winnebago County. Following his schooling, he worked for several farmers in the area and also at Schram's Chevrolet in Forest City as an auto body repairman. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. Following his discharge he returned to Forest City and continued to work at Schram's. On June 15, 1957, he married Patricia Brighton at the United Methodist Church in Forest City. They lived in Forest City where they raised their family. Forrest worked for 25 years at Kamish Ford and later at Dale's Body Shop and Barth's Repair, all in Forest City. Most recently he was employed by the City of Forest City as the cemetery custodian at Oakland Cemetery.

He enjoyed trail riding and spending time with family and friends. Forrest was a member of the United Methodist Church, Forest City Fire Department for over 23 years and the Forest City American Legion Post No. 121.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia of Forest City; a son, Tracy (Ronda) Peterson of Earlham; a daughter, Sally (Greg) Matters of Ames; five grandchildren, Brian (Lindsey) Peterson, Dan (Shannon) Peterson, Andrea Peterson and Valerie and Kelly Matters; a sister, Rose Meinecke of Forest City; a brother, Ray (Myra) Peterson of Austin, Minnesota; a sister-in-law, Irine Peterson of Thompson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Alice Grace Peterson; a brother, Vern Peterson; and an infant granddaughter, Angela Peterson.

Henry Smith, 86

Henry A. Smith, of Denver, Colorado, died on Thursday, July 21, 2005. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The son of Ralph J. and Bertha K. (Buns) Smith, Henry Arthur was born on October 15, 1918, on a farm south of Woden. His family moved to a farm east of Woden where he spent his childhood. He attended grade school and high school in Woden, graduating with the class of 1937. After graduation, he worked on the farm and at the Woden Elevator. He entered the Army in 1941 and completed training at Camp Claborn, Louisiana. He spent four years stationed in Ireland, England and France. After the War, he became a member of the Iowa Highway Patrol and worked for the state tax commission. Henry was united in marriage with Leora Lundberg on December 22, 1946. They moved to Montana where he worked in a bank. Upon graduation from the University of Wyoming, he worked for 30 years with the Pan American Petroleum Corporation as an administrative assistant in the Rocky Mountain region. Upon his retirement, he and his wife traveled all over the world.

He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Englewood, Colorado.

Henry is survived by his wife; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; and two sisters.

Norris Midlang, 89

Norris Midlang, 89, of Kensett, died on Saturday, July 23, 2005, at the IOOF Home, in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, July 27, at the Elk Creek Lutheran Church, Kensett, with Reverend Thomas Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Elk Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery, with the Bride Colonial Chapel of Manly in charge of the arrangements.

Norris Edward, was born on February 20, 1916 in rural Kensett, the son of Leonard and Edna (Evenson) Midlang. Norris received his education at the Brookfield Township Country School and graduated valedictorian from the Kensett High School. After graduation, he began farming, which he continued until his retirement. Norris married Luella Hass on June 29, 1939. In 1988, Norris was united in marriage to RoseAnn Humburg at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City.

He enjoyed wintering in the southern states and traveling. He was a remarkable craftsman. He enjoyed woodworking, creating many furniture pieces and items for his family and friends. Norris was confirmed and a member at the Elk Creek Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and couples club. Norris also served on the Kensett Telephone Board, Manly Co-op and Elevator Board, United States Department of Agricultural Commodity Credit Corporation and the Farmer's Home Administration Board. He was especially proud of his plentiful harvests, which one year, won him runner-up in the Worth County Corn Growing Competition.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, RoseAnn of Mason City; three children, Ronald (Sharon) Lance of Cedar Falls, Donna (Luther) Rhodes of Destin, Florida and Darlene Midlang of North Branch, New York; step-son, Steve (Connie) Humburg of Norfolk, Nebraska; grandchildren, Scott Rhodes, James (Rayling) Rhodes, Janice (Jim) Glaspie and Carina Kalke; and great-grandchildren, Colby Rhodes, Spencer Rhodes, Danielle Glaspie and Samantha Glaspie; brother, Leslie Midling; sister, Marian Helling; and many nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Luella; and three siblings.

Justin Lunning, 22

Justin W. Lunning, 22, died on Monday, July 25, 2005, as a result of a car accident near Rockwell.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 30, at the United Methodist Church in Forest City, with the Revs. Catherine Luck and Gary Marzolf officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Madison Township Cemetery. The Petersen Lund Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Justin Wade, the son of Scott and Theresa (Ong) Lunning, was born on August 14, 1982 at Forest City. Justin grew up in Forest City where he graduated from high school in 2001. During high school he was active in basketball and football. Justin had worked at Winnebago Industries and most recently at Bartleson's Masonry, both in Forest City.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, basketball and spending time with his family and many friends.

He is survived by his mother, Theresa (Kenny) Engstler of Garner; his father, Scott Lunning of Forest City; two brothers and a sister, Bryan, Nicole and Mitch Lunning, all of Garner; maternal grandmother, Anita (Rod) Johnson of Jackson, Michigan; maternal grandfather, William (Lorna) Ong of Zephry Hills, Florida; paternal grandparents, Verdell and Lee Lunning of Forest City; step-grandparents, Lawrence and Carol Engstler of Garner; maternal great-grandmother, Louise Nerone of Jackson, Michigan; paternal great-grandmother, Anola Lunning of Mason City; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jacob Putney, 24

Jacob Putney, 24, died on Monday, July 25, 2005, as a result of a car accident near Rockwell.

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 29, at the United Methodist Church in Forest City, with the Rev. Catherine Luck officiating. Burial was in the Madison Township Cemetery, Forest City, with the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Jacob Allan, the son of William Putney and Julie (Smith) Siemonsma, was born on April 12, 1981 at Iowa City. He grew up in Forest City where he attended school. He lived in Forest City where he worked at Bartleson Masonry as a bricklayer. In 2003, he received a gold medal in target shooting at the Iowa Games in Ames. Jake enjoyed his kids and playing his guitar.

He is survived by his life companion, Nichole Baker of Forest City; daughters, Daelynn and Rhayna of Forest City; step-sons, Brady and Cade Baker of Forest City; his mother, Julie (Jerry) Siemonsma of Taylor Ridge, Illinois; his father, William (Trucia) Putney of Pomona, Kansas; sister, Elizabeth Trampel of Clear Lake; half-sisters, Rashel and Janessa Putney of Pomona, Kansas; half-brother, Justin Putney of Pomona, Kansas; maternal grandparents, Ralph and Beverly Smith of McIntyre; and maternal great-grandmother, Luella Low of Clear Lake.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents.

Crash kills two area men

ROCKWELL—A Monday morning collision between two vehicles north of Rockwell claimed the lives of two Forest City men.
 

Jacob Putney, 24 and Justin Lunning, 22, died as a result of injuries suffered in the accident that occurred at the intersection of 180th Street and Quail Avenue.

Lunning and Jason Roberts, 23, of Forest City, were passengers in the Putney vehicle.

Roberts was taken by helicopter to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, where a report on his condition was not available late Monday night.
 

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Putney was driving a 1993 GMC Jimmy on Quail Avenue when it collided with a 1992 GMC Straight truck that was eastbound on 180th Street. The driver of the truck, 27-year-old Manly resident Joseph Ryan was not injured in the crash. The accident occurred around 10:15 a.m. High corn surrounds the intersection, but it was not immediately known if site clearance had any affect on the collision.
 

The State Patrol is investigating the accident and received assistance at the scene from the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff's Department, Rockwell and Mason City Fire Departments and the Cerro Gordo Medical Examiner's Office.

Barbara M. Johnson, 92

Barbara M. Johnson, 92, of Lake Mills, died on Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 30, at the Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, with Rev. Kevin Mackey officiating. Burial was in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Lake Mills, with the Mittelstadt Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Robert Jenkins, 60

Robert D. Jenkins, 60, of Libertyville, Illinois, died on Friday, July 29, 2005, at the Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Memorial services were held on Tuesday, August 2, at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Libertyville, Illinois, with arrangements by the Burnett-Dane Funeral Home.

Robert was born on December 21, 1944 in Mason City. Bob was a graduate of the South Dakota State University and had served as a pharmacist in Lake Forest and Libertyville. He was also the owner of Jenkins Properties, a real estate company in Libertyville. Bob was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife Elke; four children, Christopher (Rebecca) Jenkins of Virginia, Matthew Jenkins of Lake Bluff, Hannah and Zachary Jenkins, both of Libertyville; a sister, Judy Valley of Forest City; brothers, Jerry (Marlene) Jenkins and Dennis (Sharon) Jenkins, both of Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Rosella Jenkins; and brothers, Jackie and Richard.

Arden L. Anderson, 75

Arden L. Anderson of Berwick, died peacefully on Saturday, July 30, 2005, at the Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held at the Grandview Park Funeral Home in Des Moines on Tuesday, August 2. Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Des Moines.

Arden was born in Forest City, on December 9 1929, to Albert E. and Mabel (Myhre) Anderson. He attended Forest City Schools and served in the Army-Air Force. He was united in marriage to Eva Mae Brown of Leland in 1950 and farmed briefly on the family farm, after which he was employed in Mason City and then moved to Des Moines. He worked at John Deere in Ankeny for 30 years.

Arden is survived by his wife, Eva; two sons, Greg (Sherrill) Anderson of Des Moines and Dan Anderson of Altoona; a daughter, Juleen (Fred) Jones of Indianola; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Marvin Anderson of Forest City; three sisters, Hazel Palmer of Forest City, Marilyn Sogard of Ames and Nancy Johnson of Plymouth, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.

Arden was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Janice Anderson, Grace Hall and Evelyn Hanson; brothers, Merle and Carroll; and two half-sisters, Irene Fillman and Lucille Winterowd and a half-brother, Marlowe Anderson.
