Geral "Dutch" Leek, 89

May 8, 2008

Garel “Dutch” Leek, 89, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Society, Algona. 

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 6, at 2:00 p.m., at the Evangelical Free Church in Wesley, with Pastor Todd Hessel officiating. Burial was in the East Lawn Cemetery in Algona.

Garel “Dutch” Leek, was born on May 14, 1918, twin son of Albert and Nina (Foland) Leek on the family farm near Burt, Iowa. Dutch grew up and attended grade school in Kossuth County. On March 29, 1943, he was united in marriage to Bernice Reaper at her family farm near Algona. They farmed in the Algona, Burt and LuVerne areas before making their home in Wesley. They owned and operated sale barns in Wesley and Algona. Dutch completed auctioneer training school at the Reisch American School of Auctioneering in Mason City, Iowa, on March 15, 1952. Dutch bought cattle and auctioned for over 50 years. He felt honored to do the Club Calf Auction at the Kossuth County Fair. 

He became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in Algona in October 2007.

Dutch's biggest joys in life were his family, auctioning, playing ball, hunting, trapping and sharing these pastimes with his grandchildren. Memories of Dutch will live in our hearts forever. He was a member of the Wesley Evangelical Free Church.

He is survived by his three daughters, Barbara Maas of Williamsburg, Janice and Tim Long of Wesley and Carol and Bill Funnemark of Algona; nine grandchildren, Kim (Matt) Knoll, Todd (Laurie) Long, Rick (Heather) Maas, Stephanie (Pete) Hamell, Tyler (Kim Feaker) Maas, Mickolyn (Trent) Clapper, Jennifer Long, Chad (Laura) Funnemark and Ann (Bill) Reid; 12 great-grandchildren; his twin brother, Gale Leek; sister, Martha Luedtke; and brother, Christy and Helen Olsen; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1918; his mother in 1970; step-father in 1972; oldest brother, Willis in 1980; and wife, Bernice in 1987.

Funeral arrangements were handled by the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home of Wesley.

Dell E. Book, 82

May 13, 2008

Dell E. Book, age 82, of Forest City, died on Sunday, May 4, 2008, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Memorial services were held on Thursday, May 8, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, with Pastor Barb Spaulding officiating. Visitation was held on Wednesday, May 7, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City. Inurnment was a private family service held in the Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City.

Dell Edwin Book, was born on a farm near Forest City on July 17, 1925, the son of Swedish immigrants, Otto Olaf and Ida (Martinson) Book. After graduating from eighth grade, he worked on the family farm. He received his High School Equivalency Diploma in 1983 at 57 years of age, fulfilling a life-long dream to graduate from high school.

On March 18, 1948, he was married to Wanda Hanson at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. Just prior to his marriage he was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith.

After their marriage, Dell farmed until 1967. During his farming career, he was a meat cutter at the Forest City Locker for 14 years. He then became employed at Winnebago Industries, retiring in 1994. After retirement, he continued as groundskeeper for Winnebago Industries for many years.

In retirement, Dell enjoyed playing cards on Saturday afternoons and going to Diamond Jo's. Weekdays were spent at Kathy's tax and accounting business where he greeted clients and answered the phone. He greatly enjoyed visits from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were the joy of his life.

Dell is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wanda, and their three children: Mike and Kathy Book of Waverly, Kathy and Lloyd Conrad of Forest City and Ron and Denise Book of Waukee; seven grandchildren, Erik Book and fiancée, Kelly James of Tampa, Florida, Courtney Book and fiancée, Joe DeLuca of Ankeny, Tracie and John Seglem of Forest City, Trisha and Mike Quinn of Polk City, Lance and Jen Conrad of Forest City, Max and Lori Book of Waukee and Meridith Book of Waukee.

Dell is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Cole, Alli, Becca and Dru Seglem; Hudson Quinn; and Gracie Conrad; a sister and brother-in-law, Violet and Ray Charlson of Forest City; and brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Marlys Book of Fertile; and several nieces and nephews.

Dell was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Luella Johnson and Emily Harringa; six brothers, Gustaf, Albert, Clarence, Olaf, Everett and Floyd Book.

Louis Selmer Larson, 71

May 13, 2008

Louis Selmer Larson, 71, of Story City, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2008, at the Bethany Manor in Story City.

A memorial service was held on Wednesday, May 7, at the Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home in Story City. Burial followed in the Story City Municipal Cemetery. Visitation was held on Tuesday, May 6 at Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home in Story City.

Louis Selmer Larson, was born on August 18, 1936, to Elisa and Anna Larson. He married Joyce Templer on June 11, 1966, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Story City. Louis worked in construction for 30 years. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and enjoyed woodworking, especially clocks and toys, and watching NASCAR.

Louis is survived by his wife, Joyce of Story City; a brother, Franklin Larson of Forest City; and two sisters, Eleanor Sheldahl of Forest City and Judy Larson of Forest City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Loree Larson; a sister, (his twin) Lois Larson; and two brothers, (twins) Elmer and Alvin Larson; and one nephew, Johnny Larson.

Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association in his name.

William Donald Lammers, 87

May 20, 2008

William Donald (Bill) Lammers, son of William F. and Venice (Rodgers) Lammers, was born April 6, 1921 in Melcher, Iowa and died on Friday, May 9, 2008. He was a graduate of the Promise City High School.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 15, at the Randolph Funeral Home in Corydon, Iowa. Interment was in the Corydon Cemetery in Corydon, Iowa

Bill married Myrtle Twito, a spunky little Norwegian, from Lake Mills. Bill and Myrt lived in Promise City, Corydon, Storm Lake, Churdan, Maquoketa, Atlantic, Forest City and Mankato, Minnesota. In the later years Bill lovingly cared for Myrt as her health declined. He stayed by her side 24/7 for five years.

He was in the US Army and served in the 473rd Infantry in Italy. He never forgot his many comrades who did not come home.

Bill worked for Weyerhauser, UBC, Johnson Clay Works Ft. Dodge, Milligan's, Winnebago Industries and was a contractor.

He served as Post Commander for the Corydon and Forest City American Legions. Bill was a Shriner and a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the Christ the Servant Lutheran Church. He was a life long fisherman. He loved to sing and was a member of a barbershop quartet.

His wife, Myrtle, sons, David and Donald, his parents, sister, Ann Ellis and his brothers, Calvin and Robert preceded Bill in death.

He is survived by his daughter, Diane Rasmussen and husband, Robert of Georgetown, Texas; son, Dennis Lammers and wife, Pat of Osceola; daughter-in-law, Peggy Lammers of Clive; grandchildren, Kimberly, Kristine, Christian, Jon, Lisabeth, Michael, Hope and Shawn; and great-grandchildren, Jessica, Kaleb, Kelsey, Elizabeth, William, Andrew, John, Katie, Ann, Colton, Carter, Hannah, Amber, Devon, Keith, Tori, Brooke and Ryan; and his dear friend, Wayne Steele.

Memorials may be given to Corydon Christ The Servant Lutheran Church, Hospice of Central Iowa, Good Samaritan Care Center of Indianola, or the Corydon Old Settlers Celebration.

Helen M. Hanson, 94

May 13, 2008

Helen M. Hanson, age 94, of Forest City, died on Sunday, May 11, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Forest City.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 14, at 10:30 a.m., at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City. Visitation was held from 6-8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, May 13, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in the Madison Township Cemetery in rural Forest City.

Edna M. Etzen, 84

May 20, 2008

Edna M. Etzen, 84, of Waterloo, Iowa, formerly of Forest City, died of natural causes at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics on Friday, May 16, 2008.

Funeral services were held on Monday, May 19, at the Locke Funeral Home. Visitation was held an hour before the service where family greeted friends. Entombment was held at the Garden of Memories Cemetery Mausoleum.

Edna was born on September 12, 1923 in Klemme, to Howard and Alta (Spitler) Howard. She attended the Klemme High School and graduated in 1941. Edna was united in marriage to Edward Coyle and they later divorced. She later married Pete Etzen, on August 8, 1969. Pete passed away on February 24, 1979

She worked at Winnebago Industries in Forest City for several years and then later was employed at the Lutheran Good Samaritan Society Care Center in Forest City until 1985.

Surviving Edna are two daughters, Judy Millett and Donna Todd of Waterloo; a son, Larry (Kathryn) Coyle of Loomis, California; five grandchildren, Jolene (Perry) Berger of Waterloo, Jay (Kelly) Millett of Waterloo, Kristine Falk of Waterloo, Wesley (Kami) Todd of Waterloo and David (Kirsten) Coyle of Concord, California; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Doris Nicholson of Grinnell, Iowa.

Preceding Edna in death were her parents; husband; sister, Irene Hartwig; brother, Art Swomley; and son-in-law, Jerome Millett.

Melvin J. Flugum, 83

May 27, 2008

Melvin J. Flugum, age 83, of Lake Mills, having formerly lived in rural Leland, died on Sunday, May 18, 2008, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 20, at the Winnebago Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills, with Pastor Bill Peters officiating. Burial was in the Winnebago Lutheran Church Cemetery, with military honors provided by the American Legion Otto/Chose Post #235 from Lake Mills. Visitation was held one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday.

Melvin Joseph Flugum, was born on February 7, 1925 in Winnebago County, to parents Norman and Christina (Holstad) Flugum. He attended country schools and graduated from the Leland High School. Following graduation he entered the United States Army and served until he was honorably discharged.

Melvin had been united in marriage with Ruth Bolstad, and the couple had one son, Stephen. Stephen preceded Melvin in death in 2004.

Farming was a life long passion for Melvin. He spent his entire life on his farm in rural Leland, and in his free time, he enjoyed having coffee with his buddies, golfing, and dancing. Melvin also wintered in Texas for 31 years.

Survivors include his two sisters, Eleanor Ott of Albert Lea, Minnesota and Hazel Ott and her husband, Glen of Kent, Washington; two granddaughters, Dawn Hansel of West Union, Iowa and Michelle Williams of Elkader, Iowa; many great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Stephen; a brother, Emil Flugum; and a sister, Esther Charlson.

Timothy J. Espeland, 46

May 27, 2008

Timothy J. Espeland, age 46, of Mason City, died on Monday, May 19, 2008, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services were held on Friday, May 23, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, with Pastor Barb Spaulding officiating. Visitation was held on Thursday, May 22, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City  and an hour prior to the services at the church. Burial took place in the Oakland Cemetery in Forest City.

Timothy Jon Espeland, was born in Forest City, Iowa, on September 15, 1961, the son of Richard and Darlyne (Johnson) Espeland. He received his education in Forest City and graduated from the Forest City High School in 1979.

Tim attended the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in Johnston, Iowa, graduating in 1991. He served on the Forest City Police Department and the Mason City Police Department for 16 years. He loved being a cop.

Tim was a big Harley Davidson fan and loved riding his motorcycle. He liked to go scuba diving whenever he could and enjoyed watching "M.A.S.H" on television.

Tim is survived by his parents, Richard and Darlyne Espeland of Forest City; sister, Trudy (Rick) Johnson of Mason City; brothers, Ricky (Michelle) Espeland of Winterset, Iowa and Steven (Susan) Espeland of Madrid, Iowa; and nine nieces and nephews.

Tim was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Helen M. Erickson, 92

May 27, 2008

Helen Erickson, age 92, of Lake Mills, died on Saturday, January 5, 2008, in Lake Mills.

Her memorial ceremony was held on Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Thompson, with Pastor Wayne Halvorson and Tim Erickson. Inurnment was in the West Prairie Cemetery in Thompson. Visitation was held on Monday, May 26, at the Winter Funeral Home in Thompson and an hour before the services at the church.

Helen Margaret, daughter of William and Margaret White, was born at Corwith, Iowa, on May 27, 1915, and grew up there and in the Thompson area. She was baptized by the Rev. Paul Yrvisaher. On May 27, 1931, Helen was united in marriage to Irwin Erickson by the Rev. Paul Yrvisaher at the home of Irwin's grandparents in Thompson. In May of 2003, Helen and Irwin celebrated their 72nd Anniversary.

They farmed in the Thompson area and she also worked at Fleetgard and Winnebago.

In October of 2001, Helen and Irwin moved to Mills Harbor in Lake Mills. In November of 2001, they both became residents of the Lake Mills Care Center.

Helen is survived by her three sons and their wives, Eugene and Arla of Thompson, Norman and Beverly of Seeley Lake, Montana and Robert and Judith of Centennial, Colorado; eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Irwin; her parents; four sisters; four brothers; and a nephew who was raised with her.

Bernice C. Tweed, 101

May 27, 2008

Bernice C. Tweed, 101, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Thursday, December 13, 2007, at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah, following a short illness.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at the Decorah Lutheran Church in Decorah. Inurnment was held on Saturday, May 24, in the family plot in the Beaver Creek Lutheran Cemetery in rural Joice.

Bernice is survived by her children and one sister, Gladys Almelien of Joice.

Daniel Lee Garman, 55

June 3, 2008

Daniel Lee Garman, age 55, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at the Kossuth Regional Hospital in Algona, Iowa.

A Funeral Mass was held on Friday, May 23, at 10:30 a.m., at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wesley, Iowa, with Father Randy Schon officiating. Burial was in the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Wesley

Daniel Lee Garman, was born on July 1, 1952 in Algona, Iowa, to Edward and Arlene Studer Garman. He graduated from the Corwith-Wesley High School in 1970. After his schooling, Dan worked at Winnebago Industries in Forest City, Iowa for 2 years. On October 14, 1972, Dan was married to Rebecca O'Hern at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Britt. The couple lived in Wesley, where Dan worked for the K & H Coop for the next 35 years.

Dan was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley. He had also belonged to the Wesley Fire Department for over 20 years and coached Little League Baseball in Wesley for 25 years. Dan enjoyed fishing, working in his yard and playing with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing pool when he was younger.

Surviving are his wife, Becky of Wesley and his 2 sons, Justin Garman and wife, Erica of Shell Rock, Iowa and their children, McKenzie and Jaxon, and Nick Garman and wife, Angie of Garner, Iowa and their son, Tate. Dan is also survived by his 2 sisters, Diane Daigle and husband, Paul of Cohasset, Minnesota and Deb Weringa and husband, Craig of Blue Earth, Minnesota.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother; and his brother, Dave.

Adelaid H. Fox, 97

June 3, 2008

Adelaid H. Fox, age 97, of Britt, passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2008, at the Westview Care Center in Britt.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 28, at 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Britt, with Pastor Robert Dodge officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt. Visitation was held on Tuesday, May 27, from 5-7:00 p.m., at the Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt and continued one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday.

Adelaid Henrietta Fox, the daughter of Austin and Johannah (Kambo) Hefte, was born near Kanawha on May 9, 1911. She had 6 brothers and 4 sisters. On October 12, 1934, she married Jerry O. Fox at the former Prairie Center United Methodist Church northwest of Britt. She and Jerry started their married life together on the Fox family farm. Adelaid was a wife, mother and homemaker on that farm for over seventy-three years.

Adelaid's interests included sewing, quilting and cooking.

She was a member of the Britt United Methodist Church, UMW, and served on various church boards over the years.

She was active in the former Hancock County Farm Bureau Women's Committee and has served as a girl's 4-H Leader and current member of the Woden Senior Citizens. Before moving to the Westview Care Center she tried to quilt each day for at least one hour.

Adelaid is survived by her six children, Larry (Rita) of Britt, Wayne (Judith) of Britt, Freeman (Sharon) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Jacqualine (Dennis) Gordon of Iowa City, Johannas (Kathy) of Aurora, Colorado and Sonja (James) Chesnik of Ankeny. She is also survived by one sister, Austinette Nerhus of Windom, Minnesota; and sisters-in-law, Marjorie Hefte and Miriam Hefte; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry on March 18, 1995; brothers, Johannas, Arnold, Rudolph, Kenneth, Vern and Calvin; and sisters, Grace, Hazel and Irene.

Scott R. Jacobs, 48

June 3, 2008

Scott Ronald Jacobs, passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2008, at home to be with his Lord and Savior. He was 48.

Scott was born on July 4, 1959 in Buffalo Center, the son of Ronald and Joann (Gjerstad) Jacobs. He was a 1977 graduate of the Thompson High School and attended Kirkwood Community College. On July 15, 1978, Scott married Valerie Leibrand and moved to Forest City. They had four children together.

Scott enjoyed reading, woodworking, fishing, hunting, and spending time outdoors, but mostly, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Scott is survived by his three children, Erin (Jared) Cross of Forest City, Emily (Frank) Anderson of Marion and Andrew Jacobs of Marshall, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Sidney, Brenna, and Aidan Cross; his parents, Ronald and Joann Jacobs of Thompson; a brother, John Jacobs of Oskaloosa; and his aunt and uncle, Lois and Roger Halverson of Thompson.

He was preceded in death by his son, Tyler Jacobs; a brother, David Jacobs; his paternal grandparents, James and Minnie Jacobs; his maternal grandparents, Laurence and Myrtle Gjerstad; and his uncle, Dr. Paul Gjerstad.

Birdella L. Guild, 94

June 10, 2008

Birdella L. Guild, 94, of Mason City, died on Sunday, May 25, 2008, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

A Celebration of life is tentatively scheduled to be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, June 14, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church, Mason City, with Reverend Paul A. Collier officiating. Postponement may occur due to the water situation in Mason City. Following the services a light lunch and visitation will be held in the church fellowship hall. Inurnment will be private in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery Columbarium. 

The family of Birdella L. Guild has requested that memorial contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Mason City in her memory. 

Birdella L. Guild, was born on March 21, 1914 in Mason City, the daughter of Leo L. "Roy" and Amanda M. (Thiederman) Lightbody. She received her education in the Mason City Community Schools, graduating from the Mason City High School in 1932.

Birdella was united in marriage to Ralph A. Guild on September 14, 1940, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. From 1941 through 1943, they lived in Clear Lake before moving to Forest City, where they enjoyed many happy years with good friends. They were among the first residents of The Willows in Mason City when they moved there in February 1990. Birdella continued to live at The Willows after Ralph's death in December 1999. In June 2007, she moved to the Iowa Odd Fellows Home.

Throughout her life, Birdella enjoyed creative hobbies, playing cards, reading, traveling in the United States and being with friends and family. All who knew her experienced her kindness, light sense of humor and love for everyone.

While living in Forest City, Birdella worked at Harrison's Variety Store, the Summit newspaper, and Winnebago's Stitchcraft facility. In Forest City, she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Northern Light Rebecca Lodge #344, and also was an active member of the First Congregational Church. In Mason City, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Birdella was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Amanda Lightbody; and her husband, Ralph Guild.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Douglas R. Guild of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; as well as other extended family members and friends.

She will be greatly missed.

Oviedia Michelson, 94

June 3, 2008

Oviedia Michelson, age 94, of Kanawha, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2008, at The Kanawha Community Home in Kanawha.

Funeral services were held on Friday, May 30, at 11:00 a.m., at the Kanawha Lutheran Church in Kanawha, with Pastor Lee Nelson and Janelle Siffring AiM officiating. Burial was in the Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha. Visitation was held one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.

Oviedia, the daughter of Abel and Mary (Fosen) Omvig, was born and attended rural school in a farming neighborhood near Kanawha. Oviedia lived her whole life in the Kanawha area.

Oviedia was united in marriage with Ernest Michelson on March 15, 1938 at the Kanawha Lutheran Church Parsonage with the Rev. M.N. Peterson performing the ceremony. The couple made their home and farmed near Kanawha. They were blessed with one child, Lois Jean who passed away in June of 2000.

Oviedia also worked at the Crist Drug Store and Anderson Department Store for a number of years. Oviedia and Ernie moved into the Kanawha Community Home on August 5, 2003.

Oviedia is survived by two grandchildren, Tracy Abbas Lillard and husband, Dave and their daughter, Katie of Van Meter and Dan Abbas and his wife, Monica and their children, Jacob and Briana of Kanawha; two sisters, Ceceilia Roskamp of Kanawha and Mabel Peterson of Britt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernie; daughter, Lois; four brothers, Joe, Oren, John, Arthur; and two sisters, Alice Asche and Synneva Abbas.

Loren O. Indvik, 88

June 3, 2008

Loren O. Indvik, age 88, of Forest City, died on Saturday, May 31, 2008, at the Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 3, at 1:30 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Forest City, with Pastor Jerald Swanberg officiating. Burial was in the Madison Township Cemetery in rural Forest City, with graveside military rites by the Forest City American Legion Post 121. Visitation was held an hour prior to the services at the church. The Petersen Lund Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Loren O. Indvik, was born on February 5, 1920 on a farm west of Forest City, in Winnebago County, Iowa, the son of Oscar and Myrtle (Groath) Indvik. He received his early education in a rural school near his home, attended the Forest City High School and graduated from the Thompson High School.

Loren's father died when he was 11 years old and the family continued to live in Winnebago County until World War II began. He enlisted in the US Army Air Corps shortly after December 7, 1941, where he served as a mechanic stationed in Iceland. Following his honorable discharge from the service, he enlisted in the Reserves and returned to Iowa.

On June 18, 1948, he was united in marriage to Betty Faber at the First United Methodist Church in Forest City. In 1950, Loren was recalled and the family moved to California. During the Korean Conflict he was stationed in Japan for 13 months. Upon returning to the states, Loren was stationed in Amarillo, Texas for 13 years. During his final year in the Air Force he was stationed in Taiwan during the Vietnam War.

In 1968, Loren retired from the United States Air Force after 27 years of service. The family moved to Forest City where he worked for the US Postal Service until retiring in 1979.

He was a big Cardinals baseball fan, enjoyed crossword puzzles, Scrabble in the park and playing bingo. Loren was a member of the United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 121 in Forest City.

He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Betty Indvik of Forest City and five children, Stephen Indvik and wife, Joan Stockinger of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Randy and Maureen Indvik of Johnston, Iowa, Scott and Vicky Indvik of Phoenix, Arizona, Mark and Sandi Indvik of Boone, Iowa and Sandy Baade and husband, Jerry of Titonka; four grandchildren, include Christopher and Brandon Lamping and Katy and Joe Indvik; two sisters, Margaret Larson and AnnaMae Orvick, both of Britt; and many nieces and nephews.

Loren was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Oscar Jr.
