Anna
Marie Olson, 85, of Britt, died on Monday, August 4, 2008,
at the Westview Care Center in Britt.
Funeral services were held
at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, August 7, at the First Lutheran
Church in Britt, with Janelle Siffring, AiM
officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.
The Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt was in charge of the
arrangements.
Anna Marie Olson, the
daughter of William and Cora (Marth) Prull, was born on
March 12, 1923 in Orthel Township, Hancock County. She
attended the rural schools of Orthel Township. Following her
schooling, she worked in Britt at the Hemp plant, waitressed
and did housekeeping. On January 16, 1950, she was married
to Maurice Olson at the First Lutheran Church in Britt. They
lived in Britt for a short time before moving to a farm west
of Britt where they raised their family. They later moved
back into town where Anna Marie remained until 2003, when
she entered the Westview Care Center. She enjoyed
collecting dolls, flowers, stitch work, crafts and spending
time with her family and friends.
She was an active member
of the First Lutheran Church and FLCW, where she held
various offices. She taught Sunday School, was a Bible
School Supervisor and was the church janitor for a number of
years. Anna Marie also belonged to a country neighborhood
birthday club and was a member of the Bell Choir at the
Westview Care Center.
Anna Marie is survived by
her daughter, Vicki (Gary) Kahlstorf of Britt; a
daughter-in-law, Cheryl Mehmen of Greene; four
grandchildren, Jason Kahlstorf of Glen Ellyn, Illinois,
Kelle Kahlstorf (fiancée, Corey Stohr) of Britt, Casey Olson
of Rockwell City and Justin Pecoy of Greene; a sister, Alma
(Melvin) Pergande of Britt; a brother-in-law, William Huber
of Mesa, Arizona; a sister-in-law, Yvonne Olson of Ottumwa;
and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, Maurice in 1991; son, Ronald in 1988; her
parents; two sisters, Margarette Will and Viola Huber; and
two brothers, Herbert and Leonard Prull.

Wayne Campbell, 83
August 19, 2008
Wayne Campbell, age 83, of Rock Rapids, Iowa, died on
Tuesday, August 5, 2008, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in
Luverne, Minnesota.
Funeral services were held
at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, August 8, at the Christian Church
(Disciples) in Rock Rapids, with Rev. Carolyn Salberg
officiating. Burial followed in the Riverview Cemetery in
Rock Rapids. Visitation was on Thursday, August 7, from
2-8:00 p.m., with the family present from 6-8:00 p.m., at
the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

Frank W. Girard, 83
August 12, 2008
Frank Wesley Girard, 83, died on Wednesday, August 6, 2008,
at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Funeral services were held
at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, August 9, 2008, at the Hogan
Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel in Mason City, with Pastor Tim
C. Miller officiating. Burial was in the Memorial Park
Cemetery, Mason City, with full military honors conducted by
members of the Mason City Veteran's Memorial Association.
Visitation was held on Saturday one hour prior to the
services at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, in Mason
City.
Frank Wesley Girard, was
born on May 17, 1925 in Yale, the son of Albert and Lena (Wiltse)
Girard. He graduated from the Wesley High School. Frank was
inducted into the United States Army on May 12, 1945,
serving as a military policeman, later being honorably
discharged. When he returned from the military he farmed for
several years. On August 15, 1967, he was united in marriage
to Nadine Orcutt Peterson.
Frank worked at Larson
Manufacturing, Winnebago Industries and the Woodford Wheeler
Lumber Company. After retirement he helped farm for Wayne
Johnson in Forest City.
Frank enjoyed fishing, old
western movies and traveling.
He is survived by his
wife, Nadine Girard of Clear Lake; children including sons,
Wayne, Warren and Wynn Girard; daughters, Wynnette Foss and
Wendy Strand; step-son, Jerry Peterson; 13 grandchildren; 13
great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death
by his parents and two sisters.

Janette Dahley, 91
August 12, 2008
Janette Dahley, age 91, of Osage, died suddenly in her sleep
on Monday, August 11, 2008, at the Faith Lutheran Home in
Osage.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday,
August 14, at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, Osage, with
Rev. R. Dawson Tornes officiating. Burial will be in the
Rock Creek Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-7:00 p.m., on
Wednesday, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage and
will continue one hour before the services at the church.
The family requests that any memorial gifts be given to the
Rock Creek Lutheran Church.
Janette was born Mary Alice Janette Forslund to Carl John
and Oline (Churness) Forslund on December 27, 1916 in Osage.
She graduated from the Osage High School and subsequently
received her B.A. Degree from St. Olaf College, Northfield,
Minnesota in 1938. She married Erling Dahley of Osage in
1938 and the couple raised five children on a farm southwest
of Osage.
They were long time members of the Rock Creek Lutheran
Church, where she was a choir director. Later in life, the
couple moved to North Bend, Oregon, where Janette continued
her education and received her Master's Degree in Education
from the University of Oregon in 1969. She taught piano
lessons and music education in the Coos Bay Public Schools.
She and Erling returned for their retirement to Mason City
in 1979. After Erling's death in 1999, Janette returned to
her home town of Osage. Janette loved her Lord, and her
family was very dear to her heart. She will be missed so
very much by her family and everyone who knew her.
Janette is survived by
four children, Elon (Judy) Dahley of Mason City, Wayne
Dahley of Rockwell, Corinne (Ron) Gambach of Cedar Rapids
and Richard (Jeanne) Dahley of Osage; a son-in-law, Bob
Frein of Osage; as well as many grandchildren,
great-grandchildren and one new great-great-granddaughter.
She is also survived by her brother, Odell (Alice) Forslund
of Forest City.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, Erling Dahley; and a daughter, Marlene Frein
who died in 2006.

Shirley Lou Vorpahl,
65

Shirley Lou Vorpahl, 65, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, lost
her battle with cancer and passed from this life into the
arms of her Lord on Tuesday, August 12, 2008.
She was born in Forest City to Albert and Addie Borg. The
fourth of eight children, she was preceded in death by her
parents and brother, Marlyn. Educated for the first six
grades in a one room rural schoolhouse she went on to
graduate from the Forest City High School. She entered
nurses training and graduated from the Naeve Hospital School
of Nursing in Albert Lea, Minnesota. She was a critical
care/coronary care nurse for 33 years before retiring from
the Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs in 1997.
She married her husband,
Tom, in June 1965 and promptly became a traveling Air Force
wife for the next 30 years. Tom was originally from Albert
Lea, Minnesota and son of the late Arnold and Florence
Vorpahl.
Shirley was a devoted
wife, mother and grandmother; loving, generous, and friendly
to those she met in life. She had several passions in life
to include nursing, nurturing her grandchildren, gardening,
college football, and fishing, all of which she pursued with
great enthusiasm. She was committed to serving her
community, and the less fortunate, wherever she happened to
be living. She volunteered extensively through her church,
her professional nursing work, and various organizations.
She was an active member of the Gleneagle Sertoma Club and
the Susan G Komen for the Cure Cancer Foundation, where she
served as a member of the Grants Committee for several
years.
Shirley is remembered for
her unconditional love of life and her steadfast presence in
the lives of her family and friends.
Shirley is survived by
Tom, her husband of 43 years; daughters, Cynthia (husband,
Brian) Purcell and Christine (husband, Martin) Lusk, both of
San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Zachary and Nicholas
Purcell and Jackson and Lauren Lusk; her twin sister, Sharon
(husband, Dick) Turner of Lakeland, Minnesota; brothers,
Eldean (wife, Sheila) Borg of Mt Vernon, Iowa, Lyle Borg
(wife, Mary) of Pella, Iowa; and sisters, Betty (husband,
Dennis) Sailsbury of Ames, Iowa, Julie (husband, Paul)
Johnson of Colby Wisconsin and Pauline (husband, Dave)
Thielke of Urbandale, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Laura (husband,
Leon) Steffen and Patricia (husband, Dale) Peters, both of
Albert Lea, Minnesota.
Shirley was blessed with
wonderful family and friends. We are grateful for the
support they provided and the joy they added to her final
weeks of life.

S. Herbert Heimdal,
84
August 26, 2008
S. Herbert Heimdal, age 84, of Forest City, died on
Thursday, August 21, 2008, at the Muse Norris Hospice
Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services were held
on Monday, August 25, at the Winnebago Lutheran Church in
rural Lake Mills, with Pastor Bill Peters officiating.
Burial was in the Winnebago Lutheran Cemetery, with
graveside military rites by the Forest City American Legion
Post 121. Visitation was held on Sunday, August 24, at the
Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City and one hour prior
to the services at the church.
S. Herbert Heimdal, was
born in Mt. Valley Township, Winnebago County, Iowa, on
December 9, 1923, the son of Egil and Gena (Kringlaak)
Heimdal. He was baptized and confirmed at the Winnebago
Lutheran Church. He received his education in a rural school
near his home and graduated from the Forest City High School
in 1942.
He served in the US Navy
from 1942-1945 aboard the USS Guam and the USS Burns in the
South Pacific. Following his honorable discharge from the
service, he returned to Forest City.
On March 27, 1949, he was
married to Lola Carter. The couple farmed the family farm
east of Forest City for many years, moving into town in
1996. Herb also delivered motor homes for Winnebago
Industries from 1977-2004. He enjoyed going camping and
taking his grandchildren and great-grandchildren fishing. He
was a member of the Winnebago Lutheran Church, American
Legion Post 121 and the VFW Post 6161.
Herb is survived by three
children, Gary (Noreen) Heimdal of Lake Mills, Linda
(Donald) James of Forest City and Thomas Heimdal of Apple
Valley, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren;
and a sister, Eleanor Blockhaus of Northfield, Minnesota.
Herb was preceded in death
by his parents; his wife, Lola in 2001; and a son, Gerald
who died in 1973.

Vera Wilma
Humphrey, 94
September 2, 2008
Vera Humphrey, age 94, formerly of Fertile, died on
Saturday, August 23, 2008, in Silver City, New Mexico.
Funeral services were held
on Friday, August 29, at the Church of Christ in Fertile,
with Pastor Dennis Ganz officiating. Visitation was held an
hour prior to the services at the church. Burial was in the
Grant Center Cemetery in rural Clear Lake.
Vera Wilma Humphrey, was
born in Fertile on March 7, 1914, the daughter of Wallace
and Ethel (Brown) Deuel. Vera attended the Fertile School
and graduated with her class in 1932. On May 15, 1937, she
was married to Roger D. Humphrey and she made her home in
Fertile for the next 72 years, until 2004 when she moved to
live close to her son and grandchildren.
For the majority of her
life she was a homemaker until April 1, 1969 when she and
Roger purchased Fertile Lumber and Hardware and operated it
as a husband and wife team until they sold it and retired.
Vera was a member of the Fertile Church of Christ.
She is survived by her
only son, Richard and his wife, Mary of Pinos Altos, New
Mexico; two granddaughters, Melissa James and husband, Sam
and their sons, Knico, Jadere and daughter, Kassie of
Surprise, Arizona. Sara Koogle and husband, Robert and their
daughter, Slone of Goodyear, Arizona. Vera has one grandson,
Benjamin and wife, Gail their daughter, Mariah and son,
Austin of Silver City, New Mexico; one niece, Diane (Deuel)
Corner and husband, Fred of Wichita, Kansas; and one nephew,
Don Deuel of Montana.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; a brother, Ivan Deuel; and her husband,
Roger.
