Kenneth Ollie Bige, 80, died on Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at
the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.
A visitation was held on
Saturday, July 5, at the Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel in
Clear Lake.
Kenneth Ollie Bige, was
born on April 14, 1928 in Woolstock, the son of Martin and
Ida (Ratcliff) Bige. He graduated from the Webster City High
School in 1945. He farmed in the Woolstock and Webster City
area. In 1959, he was united in marriage to Lavonne Wingaard.
They moved to Forest City in 1969, where he continued to
farm. He later owned a couple semi trucks and was a hog
buyer for John Morrell until his retirement. After his
retirement he drove semi part-time. They moved to Clear Lake
in 1982.
Ken enjoyed hunting,
horses, western movies, baseball, football, and loved
spending time with grandchildren and his granddog Nikki
Westerberg.
He is survived by his
wife, Lavonne Bige of Clear Lake; children, Dave (Deb)
Ulstad of Mason City, Jeff Ulstad of Iowa City, Teresa
(Jeff) Van Slyke of Forest City, Doug Bige of Unionville,
Missouri and Luanne (Glenn) Westerberg of Kingfisher,
Oklahoma; grandchildren, Raechel (Steve) Bird of Clear Lake,
Brooke and Weston Bige of Unionville, Missouri, Staci
Boerjan of Mason City, Jacob and Allison Ulstad of Mason
City, Eli Wood of Forest City and Vanessa Van Slyke of
Forest City; great-grandchildren, Alexis Ulstad of Clear
Lake, Zachary Kettwig of Clear Lake, Sonjai and Andrew Hall,
Mykelah Boerjan of Mason City; and sister, Delores Bolden of
Webster City.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; and sister, Sharon Prochaska.

July 8, 2008
Bradley D. Brunsvold, age 45, a resident of Krysilis in
Forest City and son of Jerry and Betty Brunsvold of Lake
Mills, died on Saturday, July 5, 2008, at the Muse Norris
Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services were held
on Tuesday, July 8, at the Sion Lutheran Church in rural
Lake Mills, with Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating. Burial
was in the Sion Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Visitation was held on
Monday, July 7, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake
Mills, and continued one hour prior to the services at the
church on Tuesday.

Doris E. Swain, 92
August 12, 2008
Doris Elizabeth Swain, 92, of Butler, Missouri, died on
Monday, July 7, 2008, at the Bates County Memorial Hospital
in Butler.
Funeral services were held
on Saturday, July 12, at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel in
Butler, Missouri, with burial in the Mulberry Cemetery in
Amoret, Missouri.
She was born on September
15, 1915, to William Jewett and Ruth Edna Kelley Taylor in
Forest City. Doris, one of four children, grew up in Forest
City, where she graduated from high school. On March 28,
1937, she was united in marriage to Philip Swain in Forest
City and to this union, four children were born.
Doris spent most of her
early years as a homemaker, taking care of her family and
home. In 1953 the family moved to Amoret, Missouri, where
she worked side by side with her husband on the farm. From
1958 to 1973 she worked as an LPN at the Bates County
Memorial Hospital in Butler. In 1990, they moved to Butler.
Doris was a member of the
St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Church Women United and a
former member of the Amoret Zion Lutheran Church.
Doris was a quiet,
nurturing caregiver with a curious nature and always wanted
to be “in the know” with current events.
She enjoyed crossword
puzzles, flower and vegetable gardening, reading, sewing,
quilting and spending time with her family. Doris often gave
of her time teaching Sunday School, volunteering at the
Church Women United Thrift Shop, reading to patients at
nursing homes, making dolls and toys for Children's Mercy
Hospital as well as lap robes for nursing homes. She started
the 4-H Club in Amoret.
Doris is survived by two
sons, Robert Swain and wife, Alma of Foristell, Missouri and
Donald Swain and wife, Darla of Kansas City, Missouri; two
daughters, Rose Marie Herchen and husband, Arthur of Suwanee,
Georgia and Margaret McLaughlin and husband, Jim of Butler,
Missouri; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; husband, Philip in 1990; one brother,
Carroll Taylor; and two sisters, Reba Powers and Marjorie
Gorball.

Larry W. Lovick, 71
July 15, 2008
Larry W. Lovick, 71, of Forest City, died on Tuesday, July
8, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City, after
a courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Memorial services were
held on Saturday, July 12, at the Fertile Lutheran Church,
with David Halverson, lay minister officiating. Inurnment
was in the Brush Point Cemetery near Fertile. Visitation was
held on Friday, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest
City and continued one hour prior to the services at the
church. Memorials may be directed to the Larry W. Lovick
Memorial Fund to be used at the Good Samaritan Center in
Forest City, Fertile Lutheran Church or the Parkinson
Research Foundation.
Larry Wayne Lovick, the
youngest of twelve children of H.O. and Ida (Hanson) Lovick,
was born on February 1, 1937, on a farm near Joice. He
graduated from the Fertile High School in 1954 and joined
the U.S. Marines in 1955 serving his country in Okinawa,
Japan. After his military service, he returned to the
Fertile area where he farmed with his dad and brothers. On
March 26, 1966, he married Diane Bacon in Ventura. To this
union three children were born, Darren, Shaun and Kelli.
They made their home east of Forest City where they remained
for 43 years.
Larry enjoyed fishing in Canada, going to farm auctions and
hunting out west with his good friends, Norm and Jim. He
also loved farming and collecting toy tractors. His favorite
hobby was his family, especially his grandchildren.
Larry was a member of the
Fertile Lutheran Church where he served on the church
council. He also served on the Pilot Knob Lutheran Church
Council. He was very involved in community organizations
such as the Hancock County Soil Conservation Board and the
Forest City School Board.
He is survived by his wife
of 42 years, Diane of Forest City; two sons, Darren (Janet)
Lovick of Mission Hills, Kansas and Shaun (Julie) Lovick of
Naperville, Illinois; his daughter, Kelli (Mason) Harms of
Forest City; and his great love, his eight grandchildren,
Nick, Max and Kate Lovick, Benjamin, Audrey and Joshua
Lovick and Laura and Jack Harms; two brothers, James
(Alvera) Lovick of Fertile and Leo (Marlys) Lovick of
Ackley, Iowa; five sisters, Murlette Hagen of Lake Mills,
Alice Toresdahl of Clear Lake, Elaine (Bob) Ollenburg of
Ventura, Pearl Hanna of Clear Lake and Doris (Frank)
Bonnstetter of Chapin, South Carolina; his mother-in-law,
Anna Grace Bacon of Clear Lake; sister-in-law, Juanita
Lovick of Washington, Iowa; as well as many nieces, nephews,
cousins and friends.
Larry was preceded in
death by his parents; two brothers, Ardie and Paul Lovick;
two sisters, Amy Brakke and Irene Brakke; and his
father-in-law, Vern Bacon.

Bobby F. Query, 54
July 15, 2008
Bobby F. Query, 54, of Fertile, died on Tuesday, July 8,
2008, at his home.
Funeral services were held
on Saturday, July 12, at the Fertile Church of Christ in
Fertile, with Pastors Dennis Ganz and Kelly Benton
officiating. Military honors were provided after the service
at the church. Visitation was held on Friday, July 11, at
the Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel in Clear Lake.
Bob was born on January
25, 1954 in Mason City, the son of William and Elaine
Delores (Johnson) Query. He graduated from the Mason City
High School in 1972. Bob married Kathy Shepherd on November
9, 1974 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City, and to
this union 2 children were born.
Bob was a man that went
far and beyond to help others. He loved to make people
laugh, and his greatest joy was making people happy. In his
spare time he enjoyed fishing, drag racing, NASCAR,
especially Dale Earnhart, building cars, auto tinkering,
Harley Davidsons and spending time with his grandchildren,
especially taking his grandson, Tony to the park and to
Sunday School. Bob will best be remembered as a loyal friend
and peace maker.
He is survived by his
wife, Kathy of Fertile; children, Brandon Query of Fertile
and Jessy Query and her fiancée, Joe Nichols of Clear Lake;
grandchildren, Tony and Rayna Nichols of Clear Lake; his
second mother, Ruth Rhodes of Fertile; brothers, Billy Query
of Fort Dodge, Ricky Query of Mason City and Danny Query of
Forest City; sisters, Debbie Foy of Des Moines and Cindy
Roath of Colorado; his brothers-in-law, Bill (Joyce)
Shepherd of Hampton and Dean (Linda) Shepherd of Belmond;
sister-in-law, Dyan (Jack) Stickley of Norfolk, Nebraska;
his special friends, Mike Ball of Fertile and Dean and
Stefanie Black of Thornton; and many nieces and nephews, and
other friends.
Bob was preceded in death

Jerome C. Larson, 86, of Thompson, died on Tuesday, July 8,
2008, at the Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea, Minnesota.
Funeral services were held
on Saturday, July 12, at the Evangelical Free Church in
Britt, with Rev. Stan Johnson officiating. Burial was in the
Rose Hill Cemetery in Thompson. Visitation was held on
Friday, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City and
continued one hour prior to the services at the church.
Memorials may be directed to the Evangelical Free Church in
Britt.
Jerome Curtis Larson, the
son of Joachim and Sena (Asbe) Larson, was born on October
10, 1921, on a farm near Kanawha. He attended country school
near his home and helped his father on the farm. He later
moved to San Diego, California, where he was employed at
Consolidate Aircraft for a time. Jerome served his country
in the U.S. Army during WW II. Following his honorable
discharge he worked in Chicago.
On June 3, 1944, he married Maxine Graber in Chicago. In
1945, they moved west of Forest City and farmed. From 1956
to 1961, they lived in San Diego, California, before
returning to the Forest City area where they continued to
farm until retiring in 1983. In 1988, they moved into
Thompson where they resided until 2005 when Jerome entered
the Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea, Minnesota. He
enjoyed traveling, fishing, music, playing table games and
doing carpentry.
He was a member of the
Evangelical Free Church in Britt.
Jerome is survived by his
wife, Maxine of Albert Lea, Minnesota; four children, Ronald
(Karen) Larson of San Antonio, Texas, Betty Ann (Roger)
Olsen of Thompson, Rev. Wayne Larson of Baltimore, Maryland
and Richard (Faith) Larson of Forest City; grandchildren,
David (Marjean) Olsen of Mason City, James (Karen) Olsen of
River Falls, Wisconsin and Paula and Mitchell Larson of
Forest City; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Viola
Suderman of Hillsboro, Kansas, Lavon Yepsen of St. Paul,
Minnesota, Lorraine Thorson of Ankeny, Shirley (Earl)
Eichner of Milo and Virginia (Richard) Logli of Ankeny; and
a brother, Luther Larson of Ore.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; sisters, Harriet Mackey and Anna Mae Kloppen;

Rounds

Isaac Matthew Rounds, infant son of Matt and Tenille Rounds
of Hampton, formerly of Britt, passed away on Friday, July
11, 2008, at the Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa.
Funeral services were held
at 1:30 p.m., on Thursday, July 17, at the Evangelical Free
Church in Britt, with Pastor Stan Johnson officiating.
Burial was in the Orthel Township Cemetery northwest of
Britt.
Though Isaac's life was
short, he touched many lives and was loved by many people.
He will be dearly missed by his family.
Isaac is survived by his
parents, Matt and Tenille Rounds and his big sister, Jada,
all of Hampton; his grandparents, Curt and Cheryl Rounds of
Britt and Glen and Suzanne Schulz of Britt;
great-grandparents, Shirley Jaren of Phoenix, Arizona,
Jeanne Arvidson of Rockford, Minnesota and Harvey and Pat
Arvidson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and several aunts,
uncles, and cousins.
Isaac was preceded in
death by his great-grandparents, Leonard and Florence Rounds
and Philip Jaren.

12, 2008, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason
City, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services were held
at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic
Church in Duncan, with Fr. Brian Dellaert officiating.
Burial was in the St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Duncan,
with military rites by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit.
Visitation was held on
Tuesday, at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner, with a
Catholic Workman Rosary. Visitation continued one hour prior
to the services at the church.

Frank Byron Tourtellott, 37, of Forest City, formerly of
Osage, died on Sunday, July 13, 2008, at the Krysilis Home
in Forest City.
Frank was born on September 25, 1970 at Osage, the son of
Jerald and Lora (Sutton) Tourtellott.
A public visitation will
be held from 5-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, July 16, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage. Private family
funeral services will be held at a later date. Memorials may
be directed to Krysilis, Forest City.

Omer Francis
Kunkel, 80
July 22, 2008
Omer Francis Kunkel, age 80, of Britt, passed away on
Monday, July 14, 2008, at the Hancock County Memorial
Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services were held
at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, July 17, at the St. Patrick's
Catholic Church, Britt. There was visitation one hour prior
to the service. Burial followed after the luncheon at the
church.
Omer, son of Bernard "Ben"
and Caroline (Lang) Kunkel was born on May 29, 1928 in
Algona, Iowa. Omer was raised on the family farm along with
fourteen siblings. As a young child, Omer attended parochial
school at the St. Benedict Catholic School and later
attended the LuVerne Public School. He served his country in
the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from March
15, 1951 until his honorable discharge on December 17, 1952.
Omer was united in
marriage with Margaret Wolfe on January 13, 1953 at the St.
Michael's Catholic Church in Whittemore, Iowa. The couple
made their home in Bancroft, then Forest City, later outside
of Britt and finally moving into Britt where they resided
for 48 years.
Omer was employed at
several local area businesses including the Farmer's Coop &
Elevator and Britt Super Value. Following his retirement,
Omer enjoyed playing cards, baking, dancing, listening to
polka music, hunting, fishing, making jokes, cracking black
walnuts, wine making, making jellies, sharing his bounty of
homemade goods and recipes, and playing Bingo. He always
enjoyed making people laugh.
He was a member of the St.
Patrick's Catholic Church, the American Legion and the VFW.
Left to cherish Omer's
memory is his wife of 55 years, Margaret; one son-in-law,
Bob Murphy of Dayton; four sons, Randy and his wife, Laura
of Wesley, Russell and his wife, Terrie of Wesley, Terry of
Crystal Lake and John and his wife, Renee of Woodbury,
Minnesota; two daughters, Vickie Pigman and her husband,
Paul of Crystal Lake and Pam Reibsamen of Wesley; 18
grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rita
Frankl and her husband, Gerald of Cherokee, Edna Zeimet of
Algona and Rose Marie Schiltz and her husband, Ed of
Bancroft; three brothers, George Kunkel and his wife, Evelyn
of Algona, Virgil Kunkel and his friend, Ann of Byron,
Minnesota and Conrad Kunkel and his wife, Rosella of
Bancroft; four sisters-in-law, Elsie Kunkel of Britt, Josie
Wetherly and her husband, Sam of Algona, June Hentges of
Algona and Agatha Ludwig of Algona; and several nieces and
nephews. He was greatly loved by many and will be sadly
missed by his family and friends.
He was proceeded in death
by his parents and stepfather; two daughters, Cindy Kunkel
and Judy Murphy; one grandson; four sisters, Veronica
Spangler, Jean Marie Kunkel, Ileene Ptacek and Kathleen
Becker; four brothers, James, Robert, Clarence Dean and
Bernard; and one son-in-law, Jess Christie.
The Cremation Society of
Eastern-Central-Western Iowa is assisting with the
arrangements.

Margaret
“Peggy”Rasmussen, 83
July 29, 2008
Margaret “Peggy” Rasmussen, 83, of Britt, passed away on
Saturday, July 19, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Center in
Forest City.
Funeral services were held
on Tuesday, July 22, at 10:30 a.m., at the Wesley United
Methodist Church in Wesley, with Pastor Denise Group
officiating. Interment took place in the Evergreen Cemetery,
Britt. Visitation was held on Monday, July 21, from 5-7:00
p.m., at the Ewing Funeral Chapel, Britt and continued one
hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday.
Margaret “Peggy” Rasmussen, grew up during the depression in
the Cleveland, Ohio area. Peggy lost her father at the age
of 12, she then worked in homes as a nanny and housekeeper
until she graduated. She met Merle Rasmussen, son of Fred
and Dora Rasmussen from Wesley, Iowa, who was serving in the
Navy and they were wed on June 6, 1947 in Alameda,
California. Peggy and Merle then moved to the family farm
near Wesley. Peggy and Merle had four children. Fredric
(deceased), Linda, JoAnn and Donna. Merle and Peggy moved to
a farm in Winnebago, Minnesota from 1950 through 1958 and
then settled on a farm between Wesley and Britt until the
early 1980's.
Peggy was very active in the Wesley Methodist Church. She
was part of the United Methodist Women and played the organ
for Sunday services. She was also a member of the American
Legion Auxiliary in Wesley. Peggy also started a birthday
club for the ladies in her community. She worked hard on the
farm with a large garden and taxied all 4 of her children to
school activities in Britt and church activities in Wesley.
When the children got older she worked at the Hillside Golf
Course as a cook. She also worked at the Bear Rug in Britt.
She visited the elderly neighbors and greatly loved and
aided her mother-in-law, Dora Rasmussen. In the early 1980's
Peggy and Merle moved to Britt. During this time Merle and
Peggy parted ways and she worked for the Britt Country Club
as a cook and the Britt Hospital in the dietary department
for several years.
When Peggy's son, Fred came home from the navy with cancer
she lived and cared for him until his passing in 1995. After
the loss of Fred, she found great happiness when she renewed
her friendship with a neighbor she had known back in the
1950's. Deane Ritter of Winnebago, Minnesota, and Peg
introduced their partnership with a joyous engagement party
and were inseparable for the next 12 years. Peggy loved to
visit their children's farms often. She spent her winters in
Texas and joined her daughter at horse shows in Des Moines
and Arizona. She loved to go to gatherings of family and
friends and hosted many herself.
Peggy is survived by her three children, Linda Rasmussen and
husband, Marvin Nieman of Forest City, JoAnn Rasmussen
Eastvold of LeRoy, Minnesota and Donna Rasmussen Gietl of
Denver, Colorado; nine grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren; sister, Wilma Wells of Harwich,
Massachusetts; brother, Bill Shinkwin of Milwaukee,
Wisconsin; and Deane Ritter of Winnebago Minnesota.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents,
William Starke and Gertrude Starke Shinkwin; sister, Jenette
Smith; and son, Fredric Rasmussen.

Luther E. Okland, 84, of Lake Mills, died on Sunday, July
20, 2008, at his home in Lake Mills.
Funeral services will be
held on Thursday, July 24, at 1:30 p.m., at the Center
Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Lake Mills, with Rev.
Thomas Rank officiating. Visitation will be held on
Wednesday, from 6:30-8:00 p.m., at the Mittelstadt Funeral
Home in Lake Mills and one hour prior to the services at the
church.
Burial will take place in
the Center Evangelical Cemetery in rural Lake Mills.
Military Rites will be given by the Lake Mills Otto/Chose
Post #235 and the Leland American Legion.

Barry A. Monson, 65
August 20, 2008
Barry Allen Monson, died on Monday, July 28, 2008, in Sioux
Falls. He was 65 years of age.
Funeral services were held on Friday, August 1, at the Our
Savior's Lutheran Church in Rock Valley, Iowa, with Rev. Jim
Demke officiating. Interment was on Saturday, August 2, in
the Stavanger Lutheran Cemetery in Garden City, Iowa.
Barry was born on April 3, 1943 at Forest City, son of Glen
and Geraldine (Johnson) Monson. He graduated from the Forest
City High School in 1961 and attended Waldorf College at
Forest City. Barry married Betty Tungland on June 1, 1963 at
Forest City. They moved in 1966 to Sioux Falls, South
Dakota, where Barry obtained his Bachelor's Degree in
Education.
They moved to Inwood where
Barry first taught in the West Lyon Elementary School four
years before becoming Elementary Principal. Barry obtained
his Masters Degree in Education from the University of South
Dakota in 1972.
The family moved to Rock
Valley in 1978, where Barry became Principal at River Valley
School and in 1991, he became Director of Special Education
of Area 4.
Barry retired to Sioux
Falls in 2005. He was a former member of the Rock Valley
Golf and Gun Clubs. Barry enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting,
collecting coins, antiques, guns and especially spending
time with his grandchildren.
Barry is survived by his
wife, Betty of Sioux Falls; son, Brent (Daphne) Monson of
Des Moines; daughter, Michelle (Troy) Bratland of Sioux
Falls; mother, Geraldine Monson of Forest City;
grandchildren, Zachary, Joshua and Meghan Bratland;
brothers, Lynn (Carol) Monson of Centerville, Iowa and Monty
Monson of Las Vegas, Nevada; sister, Renea (Jim) Wobben of
Moravia, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death
by his father.

Stan Olsen, 61
August 5, 2008
Stan
Olsen, age 61, of Rowan, died on Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at
the Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa in Mason City.
Funeral services were held
on Saturday, August 2, at the United Methodist Church in
Belmond, at 10:30 a.m., with Pastor Mark Pluff and Pastor
Mike Druhl officiating. Burial was in the Graceland Cemetery
in Rowan, with military rites provided by the Rowan American
Legion, Unit 159. Visitation was on Friday, August 1, from
4-8:00 p.m., at the Dugger Funeral Home, Belmond and one
hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday
morning.
Stanley David, the son of
Harold and Ina (Schmidt) Olsen was born on August 29, 1946
in Belmond, Iowa. He grew up in Belmond, graduating from the
Belmond High School in 1964. He attended the Mankato
Business School, graduating from their three-year program in
two years. Stan was drafted into the Army in 1967. He and
Peggy White were married at the St. John's Catholic Church
in Clarion in 1970.
Stan worked as an
accountant for a number of firms including Central Soya and
Kiefer Built before he began his own accounting firm in
1974. He was a very community-minded individual, serving on
the ambulance department as well as the fire department in
Rowan. He was also a member of the American Legion in Rowan
and the King Solomon Lodge #210 in Belmond. Stan took an
active role as a member of the Belmond-Klemme School Board
for the last three years. He was also an avid sportsman,
enjoying his duck hunting and trapping. Collecting antiques
and attending auctions were hobbies Stan thoroughly enjoyed.
His family and grandchildren were his pride and joy.
Stan is survived by his

Dan (Tammie) of Central Asia; grandchildren, Ellie, Allison
and Sarah Peters and Hannah Olsen; brothers, Dr. Steven
(Pam) Olsen of Belmond and Karl (Marilyn) Olsen of Clarion;
and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Stan in death
were his parents and an infant son, David.

Evelyn Stalzer, 83

Evelyn
Stalzer, 83, of Britt, passed away peacefully, surrounded by
her family at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City, on
Tuesday, July 29, 2008.
A Funeral Mass was held on
Saturday, August 2, at 10:30 a.m., at the St. Patrick's
Catholic Church in Britt, with Rev. Henry P. Huber
officiating. Inurnment was in the St. Patrick's Catholic
Cemetery near Britt. Visitation was held on Friday, August
1, from 5-7:00 p.m., at the Ewing Funeral Chapel, Britt and
one hour prior to the services at the church.
Evelyn Dorothy Loy, the
daughter of Clara L (Kumsher) Loy and Floyd E. Loy was born
on August 18, 1924 in Chicago, Illinois. Evelyn graduated in
1942 from the Britt High School.
Evelyn was united in
marriage to her first husband, John (Jack) C. Steenlage in
May 1942. This union was blessed with five children. Later
in her life Evelyn was united in marriage to Leroy C.
Stalzer on August 19, 1972. Evelyn was a homemaker, worked
at the Britt Community Schools (Cafeteria Department) and
the Hancock County Memorial Hospital (Housekeeping). She was
a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and
the St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Evelyn always cherished
her time with her family and friends. She enjoyed playing
cards, gardening and as a Hospice Volunteer, especially
tobogganing and playing goalie in soccer.
Evelyn is survived by her
husband of 36 years, Leroy; three sons, Bob (Bobbi)
Steenlage of Galesville, Wisconsin, Les (Janet) Steenlage of
Coralville, Iowa and Jerry (Sonja) Steenlage of Hot Springs,
South Dakota; two daughters, Nancy Steenlage Hrubes of
Garner and Cyndi (Dave Gerdes) Steenlage of Kanawha;
twenty-one grandchildren, Eric Steenlage, Keith Steenlage,
Sarah (Noah) Slaby, Esther Steenlage, Timothy Steenlage,
John Steenlage, Barak Steenlage, Ella Steenlage, Kaila (Wes)
Fairchild, Brandon Steenlage, Britney (Joel) Meister, Joh
(Kathleen) Steenlage, Anna Steenlage, Eli (Jess) Steenlage,
Bridget (Wade) Thompson, Heidi Hrubes, Angela Hrubes,
Tiffani (Tim) Martin, Nicholas Hrubes, Scott Hrubes and
Lyndsi Hrubes; eight great-grandchildren, Makenzi, Madison,
Trevor, Asia, Dominic, Destiny, Keri and Kanah; aunt, Tressa
Anderson; brother-in-law, Elmer and Jo Stalzer;
sisters-in-law, Viola Steenlage Holck, Bernice (Stalzer)
Elbert, Ellen Stalzer, Gladys Stalzer and Alice Stalzer; and
many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Evelyn was preceded in
death by her parents; infant brother, Edward F. Loy; first
husband, John C. (Jack) Steenlage; grandson, Obidiah
Steenlage; and granddaughter, Deborah Steenlage.
Memorial may be directed
to the Hospice of North Iowa, Cancer Society or Cerebral
Palsy.
