Bradley "Brad" Jon Suby, 49

Bradley “Brad” Jon Suby, 49, of Fertile, died on Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, May 6, at the Fertile Lutheran Church, with Lay Pastor Dave Halverson officiating. Visitation was held one hour prior to the services at the church. Inurnment was in the Brush Point Cemetery, rural Fertile.

Brad was born on March 27, 1957 in Mason City, the son of Robert and Betty (Johnson) Suby. He was a graduate of the Forest City High School in 1975. Brad married Nancy Halsne on August 20, 1977, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake. Brad has been employed by the Iowa Department of Transportation at Hanlontown for the past sixteen years.

Brad enjoyed fishing and golfing but especially spending time with his family and grandchildren, two dogs Tipper Jon and Sam and grand dogs Cally Jo and Gizmo. Brad was a member of the Fertile Lutheran Church.

Brad is survived by his wife, Nancy Suby; two daughters, Stacy (Brian) Walker and Emily Suby; mother, Betty Suby, all of Fertile; two grandchildren, Alyson and Jenna Walker; brother, Steve (Joyce) Suby of Marion; three sisters, Sheila (Mark) Enderson of Lake Mills, Brenda (Bob) Jones of Fertile and Lisa (Mike) Lacey of Clear Lake; mother-in-law, Adoline Halsne of Clear Lake; two brothers-in-law, Alan (Helen) Halsne of Laurel, Montana and Mark Halsne of Lodi, California; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Brad in death were his father, Robert Suby; father-in-law, Magnus Halsne; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Prestholt; and brother-in-law, Hugh Prestholt.

The Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Frances H. Brunsen, 85

Frances H. Brunsen, 85, of Crystal Lake, died on Saturday, May 6, 2006, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, May 9, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Woden, with Rev. Arlen Lloyd officiating. Burial was in the Bingham Township Cemetery. Visitation was held from 4-7:00 p.m., on Monday, at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Woden.

Frances Helena Hilka Pannkuk, the daughter of Boyd and Gesena (Boelts) Pannkuk, was born on February 10, 1921, on a farm in Kossuth County. She attended the rural schools of German Township, through the eighth grade. Following her schooling she worked for various families in the Woden area. On September 1, 1940, she was married to John Brunsen at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Woden. They farmed in Bingham and Crystal Townships until retiring in 1981. In their retirement they enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona and traveling. After John passed away in 2002, Frances continued to live on the farm west of Crystal Lake. In September of 2005 she moved to the Westview Care Center in Britt.

She enjoyed her family, grandchildren, sewing, crocheting, gardening, bingo and playing cards. She was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Woden, where she was active in the Women’s Club.

She is survived by her 3 sons; eight grandchildren; two brothers; a sister-in-law; a brother-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents; one brother; and two sisters.

Maxine C. Olson, 80

Maxine C. Olson, age 80, of Leland, died on Monday, May 8, 2006, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Mason City.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 11, at 1:30 p.m., at the Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Leland, with Rev. Clarence Baalson officiating. Burial was in the Forest Home Cemetery in rural Leland. Visitation was from 5-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, May 10, at the funeral home and an hour prior to the services at the church. The Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City, was in charge of the arrangements.

Maxine C. Knudtson, was born in Forest City on November 16, 1925, the daughter of Melvin and Gladys (Hanna) Knudtson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Winnebago Lutheran Church and received her education in the Forest City School System. She graduated from the Forest City High School and began teaching in rural schools in Winnebago County. She worked at Lynn’s Department Store in Forest City, where she did clothing alterations. On December 31, 1950, she married Raymond Olson at the Winnebago Lutheran Church. The couple began farming near Northwood. They lived in several area communities before making their home in Leland in the mid 1950s. Through the years, Maxine worked for Dr. Mangan, Waldorf College and the Winnebago County Treasurer’s office. She owned and operated Mitz & Bert’s Café in Leland, a 24 hour truck stop and was appointed Winnebago County Treasurer. Prior to retiring, she worked for Holland Contracting.

Maxine was an involved member of her community and her church. She was active with the Leland Museum, the Historical Society, Women’s Federated Club and the Retired School Teachers organization. As the family historian, Maxine enjoyed scrap booking—collecting and organizing news articles and photographs on a wide variety of interests. She enjoyed cake decorating, mint-making and quilting for her family and friends.

Maxine is survived by her children, Michael (Lee) Olson of Mason City, Audrey (Gailard) Fischer of Burnsville, Minnesota, Karen (Duane) Roll of Leland, Kenneth Olson of Leland, Sherryl Olson of Forest City and Sandra (Raymond) Squier of Mason City; nineteen grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Weir of Clear Lake and Roselyn McKittrick of Milan, Indiana.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond; and two brothers, Edward and Karl Knudtson.

Mildred L. Sunde, 92

Mildred L. Sunde, died on Sunday, May 14, 2006, at the age of 92, at her daughter’s home in Thompson.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 18, at 11:00 a.m., at the Estherville Lutheran Church in Estherville, with Pastor Susan Stone officiating. Interment will be in the Palestine Lutheran Cemetery in Dolliver.

Visitation will be today, from 5-8:00 p.m., at the Henry-Olson Funeral Home in Estherville.

Mildred Lenora Jacobson, the daughter of John and Anna (Osher) Jacobson was born on April 8, 1914 in Graettinger. Mildred graduated from the Graettinger High School and then attended Beauty School in Des Moines. On March 12, 1944, Mildred was united in marriage to Henry Sunde at the First Lutheran Church in Graettinger. The couple lived in Ellsworth Township and farmed the family farm until moving into Estherville in 1983. Mildred worked as a beautician for 25 years. Henry and Mildred enjoyed spending the winters in Mesa, Arizona, for the past 25 years. Henry died on April 23, 2000.

Mildred was a longtime member of the Palestine Lutheran Church, where she was involved with the ladies aid, church circle and more recently, the Estherville Lutheran Church. For hobbies, she enjoyed playing cards and going to dinner date.

Left to cherish Mildred’s memory are her children, Julie Markle and her husband, Guy of Thompson, Harold Sunde and his wife, Meg of Estherville, Dennis Sunde of Surprise, Arizona and Lorene Buhmann and her husband, Duane of Lake Mills; seven grandchildren, Jeri Fardal and her friend, Shannon Froendt, Daniel Fardal, Dr. Nicole Miller and her husband, Kenin, Brian Sunde and his wife, Michele, Laura Beck and her husband, Chris, Jennifer Wirtjes and her husband, Ryan and Andrew Buhmann; and 10 great-grandchildren, Rylee, Blake and Cael Miller, Parker and Evan Beck, Kasey Wirtjes, Nicole Bannister, Derek Froendt, Michael Lancaster and Jade Fardal.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; infant sister; a brother, Arnold Jacobson; and a sister, Gladys Fogde.

Kenneth G. Heller, 78

Kenneth G. Heller, age 78, formerly of Garner, presently residing in Forest City, died on Thursday, May 25, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.

Memorial services were held on Tuesday, May 30, at 10:30 a.m., at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, with Pastor Lee Laaveg officiating. Inurnment was in the Madison Township Cemetery in rural Forest City. Arrangements were handled by the Petersen Lund Funeral Home of Forest City.

Kenneth G. Heller, was born in Fonda, Iowa on June 21, 1927, the son of Frank and Clara (Annenson) Heller. He was baptized on April 4, 1937, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg, Iowa and confirmed on June 1, 1941. He moved with his family to Hayfield, Iowa. And on May 15, 1946, graduated from the Hayfield High School. Kenneth continued his education at Waldorf College in Forest City. He played football, sang in the choir and was active in the Science Club. He then attended the Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis, Minnesota. On August 18, 1951, he was united in marriage to Florence Moe at the Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills. The couple made their home on the family farm near Hayfield. Kenneth raised grain crops, livestock and had dairy cattle.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved taking his nieces and nephews to the local fairs and festivals. He instilled a love for animals and the great outdoors in all his children. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and served as an usher in his younger days.

Kenneth is survived by his children, Paul Heller of Garner, Steven Heller and wife, Vivian of Forest City, Karin Heller of Mason City and Jon Heller of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Michael and Stephanie; two brothers and their wives, Herbert and Dorothy Heller and Bernard and Marlys Heller, all of Mankato, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Arnold Moe and wife, Ramona of Lake Mills; and nine nieces and nephews.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Florence; infant brother, Frances; brother, Perry; sister, Ruth; and a grandson, Eric.

Janice L. Ludwig, 72

Janice L. Ludwig, died on Friday, May 26, 2006, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City. She was 72 years old.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, May 30, at the Good Hope Lutheran Church in Titonka, with Reverend James Berka officiating. Burial was in the Buffalo Township Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home of Titonka.

Janice L. Ludwig, was born on March 8, 1934 in Bode, Iowa, the daughter of Delmar and Thora Lomen Kinseth. She grew up in Bode where she attended school and later went on to the West Bend High School. On September 16, 1950, Janice was united in marriage to Carl Ludwig in West Bend. After their marriage the couple lived and farmed near Emmetsburg. Carl went back to building elevators and the couple moved several times throughout Nebraska, Texas and Iowa before settling in Titonka in 1956. Janice went to work at the cafe in Titonka, before becoming a bookkeeper at the Tyke Service Center, which the couple owned and operated. They later started Ludwig Ready Mix where she did the bookkeeping and mixed cement.

She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, playing the piano, traveling and doing needlework and embroidery. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and was elected the Duchess of the 1998 Titonka Centennial. She was also a member of the Good Hope Lutheran Church. Janice loved singing hymns and it was not uncommon to find her sitting outside singing them. Janice treasured her morning coffee times with all her friends at the coffee shop in Tyke. She enjoyed going to both Gary’s and Pam’s farms and playing and teasing with her great-grandchildren. Janice’s favorite sayings were “God never gives you more than you can handle” and “it’ll work out, don’t worry.” Janice’s love for watermelon and jelly beans was immeasurable.

Janice is survived by her mother, Thora Kinseth of Titonka; son, Gary and Barbara Ludwig of Forest City; daughter, Pamela and Jim Hansen of Hampton; grandchildren, Jaclyn and Scott Heiser, Nathan Ludwig and fiancée, Jill Farnham, Jym and Elaine Hansen and Adam Hansen; great-grandchildren, Emma, Chandler and Betsy Heiser, Megan Rieken, Abby, Alex and Cole Hansen; brother, Robert and Delores Kinseth of Grinnell; sister, Rachael and Wayne Senne of Urbandale; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father and husband.

Ryan Lee Mausehund, 18

Ryan Lee Mausehund, 18, of Forest City and formerly of Britt, died on Sunday, May 28, 2006, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, June 1, at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Chapel, Britt, with Rev. Tom Healey officiating. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Britt. Visitation was held at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Chapel, Britt.

Ryan, the son of Becky Gayken Mausehund and Terry Mausehund, was born on September 27, 1987 in Britt. Ryan has resided at North Central Human Services in Forest City since March of 1994. He attended classes at the Forest City Schools, which he enjoyed very much and graduated with the class of 2005.

Ryan enjoyed watching television, especially Scooby Doo cartoons and his favorite NASCAR driver Greg Biffle race. He also enjoyed having a lot of people around him. Ryan was very proud of his Special Olympics medals and especially enjoyed participating in bowling.

For parents of all special children: We look like everyone else. We work, we laugh, we cry, we struggle, we soar, we are human and because of what we have lived, we see through special eyes designed just for us. We will not tolerate injustice, we will not settle for the status quo, we question authority, we take nothing for granted, we are thankful for the small things and we love big. We have truly been kept in the palm of His hand. We are the people with the ultimate gift - our special child.

Those left to cherish and celebrate his memory are his parents, Becky (Gayken) Mausehund of Kanawha and Terry Mausehund of Neola; three brothers, Jason Gayken of Garner, Terry Gayken and Tony Gayken of Britt; maternal grandparents, Harold "Bud" and Beverly Gayken of Britt; paternal grandparents, Veleta Mausehund and Rick Gremmer of Wesley, Larry and Sue Mausehund of Rudd; paternal great-grandmother, Mary Mausehund of Nora Springs; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and all of his friends at Krysilis (North Central Human Services).

Ryan was preceded in death by an uncle, Bruce Gayken; and a cousin, Eric Grady.

Funeral arrangements were handled by the Ewing Dugger Funeral Chapel of Britt.

Esther M. Bolstad, 90

Esther M. Bolstad, age 90, a lifetime resident of Lake Mills, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at the Lake Mills Care Center.

Memorial services were held on Friday, June 2, at the Salem Lutheran Church Chapel in Lake Mills, with Rev. Randy Baldwin officiating. Inurnment was in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation with the family was held one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday. Funeral arrangements were provided by the Mittelstadt Funeral Home.
