Agnes
Marie Stecker, age 96, of Forest City, died on Thursday, March 2, 2006, at the St.
Joseph’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday,
March 7, at 1:00 p.m., at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, with Rev. Lee Laaveg officiating. Burial will be
in the Good Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Titonka,
Iowa. Arrangements were handled by the Petersen Lund Funeral Home.
Born on October 4, 1909, to Boyd & Rentje Pannkuk at Titonka,
Iowa, she married Telko C. Stecker on February 22, 1933. Together they raised
seven children in Titonka. In 1963, they moved to Forest City. Agnes was employed
at the Forest City Community Hospital for twenty one years as a unit and medical
records secretary.
She was very active at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, serving as a
Stephens Ministry volunteer, a church circle member and on the altar guild. She
was a volunteer at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center and a member of its board
of directors. She also volunteered for the North Iowa Hospice. She enjoyed
traveling, making several trips to Europe and to Israel. She loved flowers,
gardening and attending activities of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She started each day reading the newspaper and read several hooks
a week. She rarely said no and was always open to new experiences except riding
on escalators.
In 1997, she became a resident of the Garden Villa Retirement Center
in Lenexa, Kansas. She became involved in the Center’s many activities such as
plays, Red Hat Society and local outings. She continued to enjoy family
gatherings with her children and their children. Agnes had an expansive mind, a
generosity of spirit, and was a wonderful role model for all those who knew her.
She was known for her positive attitude, serene disposition, enthusiasm for
life and selfless focus on others. All those who knew Agnes will dearly miss
her.
She is survived by her seven children, Loren of Urbandale,
Marlene (Norm) Wagner of Overland Park, Kansas, Judith (Kenneth) McFerren of Pueblo,
Colorado, Shari (Ron) Newman of Winter Haven, Florida, Mary Beth (Harold) Prince of
Okemos, Michigan, Ted (Michele) of St. Louis Park, Minnesota and Tom (Judy) of
Creston, Illinois; fifteen grandchildren; twenty three great-grandchildren; four
sisters-in-law, Elida Brandt and Anelda Stecker, both of Titonka, Esther Pannkuk
of Mason
City and Ruth Pannkuk of Cedar Rapids; one brother-in-law, Harold Anderson of
Cannon Falls, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; husband
of 45 years, Telko; four brothers; two sisters; and daughter-in-law, Sally Stecker.

Herbert
B. Holland, 95, died on Friday, March 3, 2006, at home under the care of his family
and with the assistance of Hospice.
Memorial services will be held at a later
date on the family farm near Leland.
Herbert was born on March 24, 1910 near Leland, Iowa,
the son of H. C. and Anna (Haugen) Holland. He graduated from the Leland High School,
then attended Waldorf College for two years. Herbert graduated from Iowa State
University in 1933 with a degree in Chemistry. While in college, he met his
future wife, Mary Jane Sankot. They were married on October 27, 1935 in Lisbon.
Herbert and Mary Jane returned to the family farm near Leland where Herbert
farmed until his retirement in 1983.
Herbert was a member of the Our Savior’s
Lutheran Church in Leland and had served on the Forest City School Board.
Herbert is survived by seven children, David (Beverly)
Holland of Plainwell, Michigan, Jan (Lois) Holland of Centre Hall, Pennsylvania,
Marianne (Greg) Michel of Des Moines, Iowa, Rebecca Doren of Sulphur Springs,
Texas, Martha (Robert) Olson of Jewell, Iowa, Diane (Steve) Rickerl of Aurora,
South Dakota and Daniel (Marcia) Holland of Gulf Breeze, Florida; 17
grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary
Jane in 2003; infant daughter, Susan Jean; three brothers, Arthur, Clifford and
Elvin; and one grandson.
The Major Erickson Funeral Home in Mason City, was in charge of
the

Phyllis L. Faber, age 75, of Forest City, died
on Friday,
March 3, 2006, at the Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.
Funeral services were held on
Tuesday, March 7, at 1:30 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Forest City, with
Rev. Jerald Swanburg officiating. Burial was in the Madison Township Cemetery in
Forest City. Arrangements were handled by the Petersen Lund Funeral Home.
Phyllis Lavonne Faber, was born in Wallingford, Iowa on
March 28, 1930, the daughter Ordean and Adeline (Sandvig) Olsen. She received
her education in Wallingford and graduated from high school there. She attended
Waldorf College in Forest City where she met her future husband, Delbert "Bud"
Faber. The couple were married on May 28, 1948 in Wallingford. They made their
home in Forest City their entire married lives. Besides raising her family,
Phyllis worked at Messer Pharmacy, the Graham Shop and Stitchcraft.
She was a
lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Forest City. She enjoyed
attending craft shows, knitting and crocheting. For over forty-five years she
treasured the friendships in her Birthday Club. She loved spending time with her
grandkids and following their sports activities as well as keeping track of what
was going on in their lives.
Phyllis is survived by her son, Alan Faber and wife, Denise
of Woden; grandchildren, Josh Faber of Clear Lake, Jesse Faber of Woden, Andrew
Faber of Forest City and Lindsey Faber of Ankeny and Matthew Faber of Beulah,
Wyoming; two sisters, Ardice Walker of Fort Dodge and Shirley
Ness of Omaha Nebraska; and sisters-in-law, Peg (Harry) Tjelta, Betty (Loren) Indvik
and Dorothy Faber, all of Forest City and Shirley Baker of Wallingford.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband;
two sons, James and Douglas; and a brother, Harley Olsen.

H. (Bud) Dakken, 88, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died on Sunday, March 5, 2006, at the
Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at
1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, March 8, at the Synod Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, with
Rev. Karl Hermanson officiating. Burial will take place in the Lime Creek (Iowa)
Cemetery, rural Lake Mills. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the
church on Wednesday.
Harlan Neville "Bud" Dakken, was born on May 7, 1917 in Lake
Mills, Iowa, to Henry and Mattie (Olson) Dakken. He was baptized and confirmed
at the Salem Lutheran Church. He attended the Lake Mills Public School. On February
10, 1935, Bud was united in marriage with Naomi Honsey. To this marriage were
born three children. Bud was a man of many talents: an artist, a writer, a
builder and a true fisherman. He was a foreman at Winnebago Industries for a
number of years and was a member of the Army National Guard—Red Bull Division.
Bud and Naomi also enjoyed their many travels together.
Bud is survived by his wife, Naomi of Lake Mills; their
three children, Doris Peterson of Mankato, Minnesota, David Dakken and his wife,
Mary of Forest City and Dana Dakken of Lake Mills; eight grandchildren, Lori
(Archie) Benike, Rhonda (Tim) Clark, Scott (Dolly) Peterson, Todd (Kim) Dakken,
Tim (Kim) Dakken, Susan (Greg) Spellacy, Thomas (Kelly) Peterson and Nathan Dakken; thirteen great-grandchildren, Joseph Benike, Sarah Johnson, Katie
Dakken, Megan Dakken, Mackenzie Clark, Ethan Benike, Joseph Dakken, Aaron
Spellacy, Joshua Dakken, Alexander Peterson, Joshua Spellacy, Riley Peterson
and Julian Peterson; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Gordon Haes of
Garner; and several nieces and nephews.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Cyril
Dakken; and two sisters, Viola (Jester) Hill and Eunice (Guy) Peterson.

Tanner E. Brunsvold, age 15, of
Fertile, died on Sunday, March 5, 2006, at his home in Fertile.
Funeral services were
held on Thursday, March 9, at 2:00 p.m., at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City,
with Rev. Lee Laaveg officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Forest
City. Visitation was held on Wednesday, March 8, from 4-7:00 p.m., at the funeral

Tanner Erling Brunsvold, was born
in Mason City, Iowa on April 18, 1990, the son of Bentley and Jacklyn (Steuer)
Brunsvold. He received his education in the Forest City School System and was
currently a sophomore at the Forest City High School.
Tanner loved to dirt bike,
ride his 4 wheeler and go snowmobiling with his friends. He liked working on
cars and enjoyed the 1979 Ford Pickup he bought from Grandpa Buck. Tanner was
currently serving as “Sentinel” in the Forest City High School FFA. He played
football (#89) and participated in track and wrestling. His friends were a huge
part of his life. And he loved making people laugh.
Tanner is survived by his
parents, Bentley Brunsvold and friend, Tara Wineagar of Fertile and Jacklyn
Haverly and husband, Mark of Titonka; a brother, who meant the world to him,
Hunter Brunsvold and wife, Casie of San Diego, California; grandparents included
Grant "Buck" and Joyce Russell of Fertile, Bob and Judy Brunsvold of Forest City
and Paul and Mary Jane Haverly of Algona; three aunts and an
uncle, Jody (Terry) Schroeder of Estherville, Polly (Frank) Falite of Danvers,
Massachusetts and Cindy Hanna of Minatare, Nebraska and Erling (Debbie) Brunsvold of
Smithtown, New York; great-grandmothers, Eva Strohman and Viola (Steuer) Harpstad;
and many cousins.

Margaret E. Hill, age 82, of
Forest City, died on Tuesday, March 7, 2006, at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear
Lake, Iowa.
Funeral services were held on Friday, March 10, at 10:30 a.m., at
the Calvary Baptist
Church in Forest City, with Rev. Douglas Farrell and Rev. Steven Cox officiating.
Burial was in the Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City.
Visitation will be from
6-8:00 p.m., on Thursday, March 9, at the Calvary Baptist Church and an hour prior to the
services on Friday. The Petersen Lund Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Margaret Edith Hill, was born in
What Cheer on January 18, 1924, the daughter of James and Edith (Branson) McMullin. She received her elementary education in What Cheer and graduated from
the
Oskaloosa High School. She received her normal training to become a teacher and
taught in rural schools near What Cheer from 1946 until 1948. She was united in
marriage to Francis V. Hill at the First Christian Church in Sigourney, Iowa. In
1960, the family moved to Garner for a time and then made their home in rural
Forest City. Margaret was a dedicated homemaker and a loving mother. Her
children remember coming home from school to the wonderful aroma of her bread
baking.
She loved music and played the violin. For many years she wrote the
Society Column for the Forest City Summit. She attended the Calvary Baptist Church
and was an active participant in many activities. She loved to travel and
enjoyed visiting her children.
Margaret is survived by four
children, Steven Hill and wife, Cindy of Iowa Falls, Larry Hill of Leland, Janice
Purchase and husband, Tim of Bellevue, Nebraska and Patrick Hill of Garner; and
seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; and her husband, Francis in 2000.

B. Duane Opdahl, 79

B. Duane Opdahl, 79, had a heart
attack and went to heaven to be with Jesus on Thursday, March 9, 2006.
Memorial
services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, March 18, at the Faith Lutheran
Church in Pierce, with Rev. Gail Hart officiating, followed with a covered dish
dinner at the Pierce Community Center.
He was born in Albert Lea, Minnesota
on October 30, 1926, to Henry and Gertrude (London) Opdahl. He was raised on the
family farm near Alden, Minnesota and graduated from the Alden High School in 1944. In
1946, he joined the Army and was stationed in Italy for a year. He was honorably
discharged in March 1948. He attended Waldorf College in Forest City. While at
Waldorf, he sang in the college choir where he met his wife, Violet Mino. Their
love of music continued and has been passed down to their children and
grandchildren. They celebrated 55 years of marriage this past year.
He assisted
his father by living and working on the family farm. In the early 1960’s, he was
chosen Outstanding Young Farmer of Freeborn County. While on the farm he and his
brother also started Opdahl Trucking. In 1967, he and his family left the farm
and moved to Forest City. He worked for Winnebago Industries, Forest City
Millworks and McAnnich Construction. He also renewed his interest and skill in
flying, accomplishing the life-long goal of earning his private pilot’s license.
In 1976, they moved to Pierce, Idaho, where he worked for Carl Nelson Logging,
Davis Trucking and KMC Trucking. He competed in truck driving contests at the
Pierce 1860 Days and the Orofino Lumberjack Days, often winning or placing in
the top three.
In 1979, he and his brother purchased an outfitting business and
started the Triple “O” Outfitters. He eventually sold his interest to his
brother but continued to stay involved, supporting Harlan and Barb over the
years with things too numerous to list. He retired in 1995 but has hauled many
loads of logs since then.
He was a member of the Snowmobile Groomer Board, The
Howard Bradbury Logging Museum Board and a faithful member of the Faith Lutheran
Church. He is a past member of the Waldorf Board of Regents and the White Pine
Credit Union Board. He was an avid supporter of the right to keep and bear arms
and was a Life member of the NRA and the Golden Eagles. Duane was known for his
humor and story telling. He was a generous person, always lending a helping hand
to his friends and family. He was also a man who loved and trusted God, sharing
that love with others in the way he lived his life.
He is survived by his wife,
Violet; his five children, Dennis and Jill Opdahl of Lewiston, Cindy and Don
Moore of Yakima, Washington, Janet and Bob Holzer of Orofino, Betty and Howard Weeks
of Cavendish and Martin and Pam Opdahl of Pierce; grandchildren, Jeremy and
Erica Opdahl and their children, Keegan and Maddisyn and Jennifer Opdahl of
Lewiston, Veronica and Lars Skaar and daughter, Kaia of Story City, Laurel and
Micah Cawley and Eric Moore of Yakima, Washington, Katelyn and Breck Holzer of
Orofino, Holly and Clay Weeks of Cavendish and Alex Opdahl of Pierce; one
sister, Gloria Peterson of Emmons, Minnesota; one brother, Harlan and Barb Opdahl of
Pierce; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dr. Michael D. Brown, age 64, of Richfield, Minnesota, passed away
suddenly on Thursday, March 9, 2006, at his home in Richfield.
Funeral services were held on
Friday, March 17, at 1:00 p.m., at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest
City, with burial in the Oakland Cemetery in Forest City. Visitation was held an hour
prior to the services at the funeral home. Arrangements provided by the Petersen Lund
Funeral Home.
Michael D. Brown, was born on July 17, 1941 in Hugh Springs,
Texas. Dr. Brown was a member of the University of St. Thomas School of
Education faculty in Minneapolis, Minnesota. For the past four years he had been
chair of the school’s Special Education Department. He contributed much to the
School of Education, the university and the state of Minnesota. He served on
many state committees that dealt with special education. Dr. Brown served as an
associate professor who specialized in the areas of learning disabilities,
emotional behavioral disorders, mental retardation and early childhood special
education.
He was a member of eight professional organizations related to his
field. People will first remember Michael Brown as a kind and gentle man. Then
they will remember him as a gifted educator who was always there to help
students with their questions and concerns. Finally, they will remember Michael
as someone who worked hard to uphold the dignity, worth and rights of people
with disabilities. Michael believed people are more alike than different—he
was a good man.
Michael was loved by his family, his friends and especially
his Rottweilers. He is survived by his life partner of 32 years, Craig Fox; and a
brother, Patrick Cotter.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Larry Dean Evers, 59, died on
Saturday, March 11, 2006, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
Funeral services were held
on Tuesday, March 14, at the First Lutheran Church, Algona, with Rev.
Dr. Mark E. Holmer officiating. Burial was in the East Lawn Cemetery in Algona, with
military honors from the Hagg-Turner American Legion Post 90 and the VFW Post 2541.

He was born on January 23, 1947 at
Odell, Nebraska, to Elmer and Ellen Johnson Evers. Larry was married to Judy
Smith on May 6, 1966 in Algona, Iowa.

Leora
M. Smith, 88, of Forest City, died on Thursday, March 16, 2006, at the
Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
A private family memorial service will be held at a future date. The Petersen
Lund Funeral Home, Forest City, is in charge of the arrangements.
Leora Mary Smith, was born in Forest City on March 5, 1918,
the daughter of Albert and Lillie (Lorentzen) Lundberg. She graduated from the
Forest City High School and attended Waldorf College. She furthered her
education at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. Leora taught in
rural schools in Winnebago and Hancock Counties and in Elkader. She served as
Principal of the Junior High School in Ventura.
On December 22, 1946, she was
united in marriage to Henry A. Smith and they decided to move to Montana. Leora
graduated in 1952 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from
the University of Wyoming at Laramie. In 1960, she completed her Masters Degree
in Elementary Education at the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado. She taught
on the Crow Indian Reservation at Lodge Grass, Montana and at Billings. In
Wyoming, she taught at Ranchester, Casper and Powell and finally in Aurora,
Colorado. She taught school for 42 years.
Leora is survived by her sister, Myrth Smith of Forest City;
sisters-in-law, Darleen Lundberg of Forest City and Frances Lundberg of Glen
Ellyn, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband;
brothers, Milo and Elmer Lundberg; and a sister who died in infancy, Myrth
Alberta.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of North Iowa or Waldorf
College.

Albert L. Book, age 86, of Forest City, died

Albert L. Book, was born on a farm in rural Forest City, Iowa
on June 20, 1919, the son of Otto and Eda (Martinson) Book. He received his
education in rural schools near his home. On October 17, 1943, he was united in
marriage to Dorothy Branstad. The couple made Forest City their home throughout
their married lives. Albert began working as a bricklayer for Bartleson
Construction. He farmed for a time before beginning work at Winnebago
Industries. He retired at age 62 and for the past 24 years has worked recycling
scrap iron and other materials. His hands were never still—Albert
was a hard working man his whole life.
He loved spending time with his
grandchildren and being around family. He enjoyed camping and had worked
part-time at the Crystal lake Park. He bought and sold tractors as well as
collected model tractors and built many hayracks over the years.
Albert is survived by his six children, Lanne Book
and wife,
Patty of Klemme, Duane "Snookie" Book and wife, Mary Lou of Fertile, Gary Book
and wife, Pat of Garner, Patty Brighton of Forest City, Karen Brock and husband, Rickie
of Forest City and Nancy Kabe and husband, Roger of Northwood; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren;
and three brothers and a sister, Ole
Book of Forest City, Del Book and wife, Wanda of Forest City, Harold Book and wife, Marlys of Fertile and Violet Charlson
and husband, Ray of Forest City.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife,
Dorothy; sisters, Luella and Emily; brothers, Floyd, Gus and Clarence; an infant
brother, Everett; and a great-grandson, Michael Brooks.

in the St. Luke's Cemetery in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.
Paul A. Otto, was
born on February 10, 1929 in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, to Herbert R. Otto and Evelyn T.
Otto (NEE Sette). He graduated from the Oconomowoc High School, Waldorf College in
Forest City, Luther College in Decorah and Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. He
married Valdora M. Olson on June 10, 1951. To this union there were three
children, Michael P. (Belle) Otto of Neosho, Wisconsin, Scott A (Pam) Otto of Fort
Dodge and Wendy Joy (Tom) Van Ahn of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He served in the US Marine
Corp during the Korean Conflict. He was ordained into the Lutheran Ministry in
1961 and served in the Lemmon Rural Parish in Lemmon, South Dakota, Immanuel Lutheran in
Forest City and Our Savior's Lutheran in Humboldt. He touched the lives of a
multitude of people. He is survived by his wife; three
children; his sister, Joan E. (Robert) Peterson; eight grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; three nieces; two nephews; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Richard Otto of Oak
Park, Illinois. Paul will be deeply missed by family and friends,
but we are eternally grateful for his presence in our lives.

Church in Forest City, by the Rev. J. A. M. Hinderlie and was confirmed at
Immanuel on June 3, 1951, by the Rev. Arndt L. Halverson. Rich received his
education in the Forest City School System, graduating from the Forest City High
School in 1954. He was employed by Forest City Improvement, Danielsons Grocery
and Stitchcraft.
Rich enjoyed fishing and collecting miniature cars. He liked
watching sports and listening to country western music. He lived at home with
his parents for many years. Recently he made his home at the Forest Plaza Assisted
Living in Forest City until entering the Lake Mills Care Center in October of
2004. He is survived by three sisters, Eunice and Mel McCarthy
of Kellogg, Norma and Dennis Hillesland of Spring Valley, Minnesota and Alice and
Ted Lewison of Forest City; one brother, Gus and JoAnn Bartleson of Forest
City; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; niece, baby McCarthy; nephew, Jay Lewison; and grand-niece, Kelly McCarthy.

Fern Bartik, 87, of Britt, died on Sunday, March 26, 2006, at
the Hancock County Memorial Hospital, Britt.
Funeral services will be held
at 10:30
a.m., on Wednesday, at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt. Burial will be in the
Evergreen Cemetery, Britt. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, at
the Cataldo Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the services on
Wednesday.

Franklin H. Hansen, 89

Franklin Henry Hansen, age 89, of Forest City, died
on Tuesday,
March 28, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.
Funeral services were
held on Friday, March 31, at 10:30 a.m., at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City,
with Rev. Barb Spaulding officiating. Burial was in the Ft. Snelling National
Cemetery in St. Paul, Minnesota. Visitation was held from 5-7:00 p.m., on Thursday,
March 30, at the funeral home. The Petersen Lund Funeral Home was in charge of
the arrangements.
Franklin Henry Hansen, was born in Forest City on April 29,
1916, the son of Dr. O. A. and Bertha (Moe) Hansen. He received his education in
the Forest City School System, graduating from the Forest City High School as class
salutatorian. He continued his education at Waldorf College, where he was a
member of both band and choir and received his degree in Economics from Iowa
State University in Ames. From 1941 to 1945, he served with the US Army in the
Pacific Theater. On July 5, 1947, he was married to Alma Faust in Omaha, Nebraska.
The couple returned to Forest City and made it their home.
Franklin co-owned and
operated “H & H Plumbing and Heating” for many years. He worked as a sales
representative for Plumb Supply and then for James Refrigeration, retiring
gradually over a number of years.
He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church
and American Legion Post 121 in Forest City. Franklin loved hunting and fishing.
He enjoyed playing cards with his friends and puttering around his eighty acres,
known as “the farm”. He liked to garden and raise flowers and held an abiding
reverence and respect for nature.
He is survived by his daughter, Ellen and
son-in-law, Daniel Stoneburner of Athens, Georgia; son, Robert Hansen of
Minneapolis, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Tara and Emily Stoneburner of
Athens, Georgia and Erin Stoneburner of Portland, Oregon;
sister-in-law, Doraine Hansen of Mason City; and several nieces and nephews.
Franklin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alma
in 2002; brother, Conklin Hansen; and sisters, Adela Salveson, Eva Fanton and Olive
Morrisey.

Glorianne Kay Mattison, died
on Tuesday, March 28, 2006, age 60 Years, 6
Months, 6 days, at her home.
A memorial ceremony was held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, April
3, at the Lake View Cemetery Chapel in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, with Pastor Eric Quinney of
the Burnard Christ Lutheran Church, Oshkosh officiating. Inurnment was
in the Lake View Cemetery, Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
The Winter Funeral Home and Cremation
Service, Thompson, was in charge of the arrangements.
Gloria “Fuzzie” Hintze, daughter of Walter and Cecelia (Montabon)
Hintze, was born on September 22, 1945 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. She was united in
marriage to Dennis Mattison on May 7, 1994, at the Christ Lutheran Church in
Oshkosh. The couple have made their home in Thompson since then. While living in
Oshkosh, she was employed by the State of Wisconsin as a welfare investigator
and also was employed by Winnebago County, Wisconsin. Gloria also worked at
Commercial Federal in Thompson, before retirement. She was an avid Packer’s fan
and loved teddy bears.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Dennis of
Thompson; her four sisters, Eileen (James) Bronson of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, JoAnn
Schlichting of Nashville, Tennessee, Judy (James) Wollangk of Fond-du-Lac,
Wisconsin and
Sue Ludwig of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; her five brothers, Eugene (Joyce) Hintze of
Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Neil (Rita) Hintze of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Keith Hintze of Green Bay,
Wisconsin and Gerald (Carol) Hintze and Dennis Hintze, both of Oshkosh,
Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and by one brother,
Milton Hintze.

LaVerne E. Heineman, 72

Laverne “Heine” Elmer Heineman, 72, of Appleton, Wisconsin,
formerly of the Crystal Lake and Britt areas, passed away peacefully at the Angelus
Retirement Center in Appleton, Wisconsin, on Friday, March 31, 2006.
Visitation will be
held at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake, Iowa, at 9:00 a.m., on
Thursday, April 6, 2006. His funeral will immediately follow at 10:30 a.m.
Interment will be in the Crystal Lake Cemetery.
Laverne was born in Bremer County, Iowa on January 6, 1934,
the son of Elmer Martin Heinemann and Lucinda Thoms. He attended the Oran High
School until he graduated in 1951. On December 5, 1951, he enlisted in the Navy.
For the next three years, he was stationed in Norman, Oklahoma. In 1955, he returned to Iowa and started working for the Arlington, Iowa,
Farmers Co-op.
In September of 1958, he began building grain elevators. In October 1958, Heine
moved to Fayette, Iowa, where he purchased and operated the Heineman Texaco
Service Station. On August 14, 1960, he married Myrna Jean Scheffler from Dixon,
Illinois. She was a fourth grade teacher in Fayette, Iowa. In 1972, Heine moved
to Crystal Lake, Iowa, where he and his wife raised their family that included
his brother, Keith. He started his employment with Winnebago Industries, of
which he retired in 1995.
Heine adored gardening, fishing, sports, animals and
playing cards. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved his three children,
his brother, eight grandchildren and extended family.
Heine is survived by his son, Lanny (Sandy) Heineman
of
Clinton, Utah; two daughters, Janet (Kent Berger) Heineman-Berger of Appleton,
Wisconsin and Heidi Heineman of Studio City, California; eight grandchildren, Cody Heineman, Tyler Heineman, Morgan Heineman, Madison Heineman, Kennedy Berger,
Carson Berger, Kylie Berger and Benjamin Laverne Heineman; his brother, Keith
(Sue) Heinemann of Sachse, Texas. His wife’s family, nieces, nephews and other
relatives further survive him.
Heine was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Myrna;
his sisters, LaDonna, Doris and Verla; and his brother-in-law, Dick Welsh.
Heine’s family would like to thank the staff at the Angelus
Retirement Home and the AseraCare Hospice Staff.
We will truly miss our self-proclaimed King of Hearts
champion.
