Margaret A. Nielsen, 70
August 8, 2006
Margaret A. Nielsen, 70, of Crystal Lake, died on Saturday, August 5, 2006, at
the Hancock Memorial Hospital in Britt.
Friends may greet the family on Wednesday, August 9, from 2-6:00 p.m., at
the Crystal Lake American Legion.
At Margaret's request, her body has been donated to the Osteopathic School of
Medicine.
Margaret, the daughter of Louis and Elva Eenhuis, was born on August 6, 1935.
Margaret married Harold Nielson on June 2, 1984. They resided on a farm south of
Crystal Lake. For many years they owned and operated the Crystal Cafe until they
retired. She enjoyed her animals, wild birds and her many flower beds.
She is survived by her husband Harold; five sons, Daniel Eston of the
Philippines, Robert Nielsen of Algona, Howard of Forest City, Brian of Crystal
Lake and Gordy of Crystal Lake; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren;
four sisters, Joretta (Walter) Riggle of Glenville, Minnesota, Mary (Marshall)
Thompson of Lake Mills, Esther (Bill) Krischbaum of Forest City and Jeanette
Dodd of Lake Mills; one brother, Mike (Denise) Eenhuis of Chapman, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Elva Eenhuis; son,
Monty; one sister, Lila; and two brothers, Robert and Lyle.
The
Ewing Dugger Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Darla D. Allison, 54
August 22, 2006
Darla D. Allison, age 54, of Forest City, died on Thursday,
August 10, 2006 at her home in Forest City.
A memorial
service was held on Saturday, August 19, at 10:00 a.m., in the
Rock Garden Room at Paradise Parties in Clear Lake. Pastor
Ron McKee from the Britt Zion Church of the Nazarene will be
officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Jubilee
Cemetery in Jesup, Iowa. Visitation was held on Friday, August
18, at the Rock Garden Room, Paradise Parties in Clear Lake.
The
Petersen Lund Funeral Home assisted the family with
the arrangements.
Darla Dee Maas, was born on October 29, 1951, at the Peoples
Hospital in Independence, Iowa. She was the daughter of
Henry J. and LaVonne A. (Luloff) Maas. She was baptized two
weeks later in accordance to the Lutheran faith.
Her parents later divorced and LaVonne remarried Pastor John
Albrecht who later adopted Darla in November of 1957. Darla
lived in various places in Iowa and Wisconsin during her
childhood. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the
spring of 1966 at Stratford, Wisconsin. She was a graduated
of the Stratford High School in 1969. She moved back to Iowa and
attended Wartburg College in Waverly.
On March 23, 1974, Darla married Gregory Lee Allison. To
this union two daughters were born, Amber Lynne and Amanda
Lee. In 1980, Darla rededicated her life to the Lord. She
most recently attended the Zion Church of the Nazarene in
Britt. In 1992, she graduated from Hawkeye Technical School
with Honors in Drafting. She then moved to Forest City and
worked for Winnebago Industries.
Her faith and family were very important to her. Darla loved
playing 500 and was a whiz at Trivial Pursuit.
She is
survived by her daughters, Amber Allison of Mason City and
Amanda Allison of Iowa City; her parents; three
grandchildren, Madaline, Austin and Thain; seven sisters; a brother; 17 nieces
and nephews; and seven
great-nieces and great-nephews.
Darla was preceded in death by her grandparents; and a
sister.

Nathan M. Quail, 18
August 22, 2006
Nathan M. Quail, age 18, of Forest City, died on Monday, August
14, 2006, at his home in Forest City.
Funeral services were
held on Thursday, August 17, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in
Forest City, with Pastor Lee Laaveg officiating. Burial was
in the Oakland Cemetery. Visitation was held on Wednesday, August
16, from 4-7:00 p.m., at the funeral home and an hour prior to
the
services at the church. The Petersen Lund Funeral Home was in
charge of the arrangements.
Nathan "Nate" Michael Quail, was born in Mason City, Iowa on
May 28, 1988, the son of Steve Quail and Diane (Faught)
Quail. He was a student at the Forest City Community Schools and
would have been a senior this fall.
Nathan loved football, the military, music and his friends.
He took great pride in playing football for the Indians
wearing his #92. He also participated in wrestling and
track.
Nathan sought the life of a soldier as he attended various
Naval Sea Cadet training camps. His fellow Army recruiters
and recruits felt that he had the “heart of a soldier.”
Nathan excelled at the trumpet and loved marching band with
its powerful sounds and percussion cadences. His big heart
showed true with the love he gave and received from his
friends and family who surrounded his life. He was a
fun-loving and colorful young man.
Nathan is survived by his parents, Steve Quail of Hartley
and Diane Quail of Forest City; his brothers, Cory Quail of
Cedar Falls and Jesse Quail of Forest City; grandparents, Gary and Deloris Faught of Mason City
and John and
Irene Quail of Weslaco, Texas; one aunt
and two uncles, Deb Faught of Coralville, Stuart Woodman of
Mt. Holly, North Carolina and Brian Quail of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two
special cousins, Payton and Charlie Jo Woodman; many
friends, especially Alicia, Mike, Ryan and Shane; and finally
the family pet, Max.
Nathan was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Ida
Hansen; great-grandparents, Audrey and Dorothy Faught;
grandmother, Nancy Quail; and aunt, Susie Woodman.

Richard L. Rosen, 75
August 22, 2006
Richard Levi (Curtis) Rosen, 75, of Thompson, died at home on
the morning of Wednesday, August 16, 2006, after a long terminal
illness, which he fought bravely.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 19, at the Calvary
Lutheran Church, Crystal Lake. Pastor Bob Snitzer officiated
with Military Honors by the Leland Color Guard. Interment was
in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Thompson. The Winter Funeral Home
and Cremation Service was in charge of the arrangements.
Richard was the son of William Henry Curtis and Esther
Berdine (Tesdahl) Curtis and was born on May 1, 1931 in
Buffalo Center, Iowa. At the age of 4, Richard’s father died
during the depression. He and his brother, Donald Curtis were
adopted by Ole and Bertha (Varland) Rosen.
Richard attended the Crystal Lake School and then served in the
Army from 1950-53 during the Korean War belonging to the
7th Division, 32nd Regiment, K Company, Bar Man. He was awarded
the Purple Heart and Presidential Citation amongst other
medals during this time. He then served in the Air Force
from 1953-56. While in basic training, Richard went to
boxing school. He was a Golden Glove boxer and amateur heavy
weight champion of England amongst the service men. He was
married to Barbara June Eide in June of 1961.
Other interests include weightlifting, pool league, reading
up on the Old West and Indian Wars and being a member of the
American Legion and VFW. Richard also enjoyed gardening,
fishing and spending time with his family and his dog,
Sparky.
He is survived by his children, Selena Rosen of Tampa,
Florida, Rhonda Rosen of Mason City, Dawn Thompson of
Thompson and Danny Peterson, also of Thompson; his
brothers, Donald and wife, Evelyn of Arizona and Orlyn and
wife, Sharon of Scarville; his sister, Shirley Maleolm of
Minneapolis; his grandchildren; and by many nieces, nephews
and cousins.
He was preceded in death by both sets of parents; and by his
sisters.

Rachel Elizabeth Fjeld
August 29, 2006
Rachel Elizabeth Fjeld, daughter of Dan and Amanda
(Potter) Fjeld, silently entered our world on Saturday,
August 19, 2006, at the Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.
Family services officiated by Rev. Bill Peters were held on
Sunday, August 20, at the Beaver Creek Lutheran Cemetery in
rural Joice.
Rachel is the granddaughter of Jerry and Becky Fjeld of
Joice, Jim and Annette Sexton of Lake Mills and Dennis
Potter of Forest City; great-grandparents, Glenn and
Marilyn Fjeld of Joice, Roger and Ruth Hermanson of Lake
Mills, Dale and Beulah Poncin of Garner and Melvin and Linda
Sexton of Mason City; and aunts and uncles, Matt Fjeld,
Cassie Fjeld, Steven Potter, Stephanie Swalve, Alexis
Sexton, Payton Sexton, Amber Sexton and Jordan Sexton.
Rachel will forever be held in the hearts of her family here
on Earth and in the arms of our Lord and loved ones in
Heaven.

Edith
Helma Peterson, 98
August 29, 2006
Edith Helma (Langerud) Peterson, 98, of Clear Lake,
died on Monday, August 21, 2006, at the Muse-Norris Hospice
Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services were held on Friday, August 25, at the Zion
Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with Richard L. Scott, Lay
Assistant of the Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was
held in the Lincoln Township Cemetery, rural Fertile.
Visitation was on Thursday, August 24, at the Ward-Van
Slyke Colonial Chapel and one hour prior to the service time on
Friday at the church.
The family of Edith Helma (Langerud) Peterson has requested
that memorial contributions be made to the Hospice of North
Iowa, or to the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake in her
memory.
Edith Helma (Langerud) Peterson, was born on July 30, 1908
in Forest City, the daughter of Albert Tom and Tony (Olson) Langerud. She attended
the Forest City High School and graduated
from Waldorf College. After completing her schooling she
worked as a stenographer for A.M. Schanke in Mason City. She
was united in marriage to Minard “Dusty” Rhodes in 1930, in
Mitchell, South Dakota. He preceded her in death in 1980. After their
marriage they owned and operated for 20 years, Rhodes Rides
Carnival in Wisconsin. Dusty and Edith wintered in Texas and
operated for 30 years a Mobile home park, before moving to
Clear Lake.
She was united in marriage to Harvey Peterson in 1985. He
preceded her in death on October 8, 2002.
Edith enjoyed playing the organ at the Manly Nursing and
Rehab Center, crocheting, knitting, painting, dancing and
had the opportunity to dance with Lawrence Welk. Dusty and
Edith on occasion stayed with the Welk family.
She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, making quilts at
the church, and the church circle in Clear Lake.
Left to cherish her memory are two sisters, Marlys Haugen of
rural Leland and Junice Brown of Leland; a brother, Albert
Langerud and his wife, Frances of Paris, Missouri; a step-son,
Lyle Peterson of Mason City; and a step-grandson, Kyle
Peterson who is serving in the United States Navy; and many
nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and friends.
Besides her two husbands, Edith was also preceded in death
by her parents; and five sisters, Stena Stewart, Geniva
Howe-Johnson, Amy Hauge-Brown, Doris DeMerritt and Esther
Donohue-Baumgartner.

Viola
Wilhelmina Mary, 91
August 29, 2006
Viola Wilhelmina Mary, age 91, of Forest City, died
on Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at the Concord Care Center in
Garner, Iowa.
A Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated on Saturday,
August 26, at the St. James Catholic Church in Forest City,
with Fr. Henry Huber officiating. Burial will be in the St.
James Catholic Cemetery in Forest City. Visitation was
on Friday, August 25, at the funeral home and an hour prior
to the services at the church. The Petersen Lund Funeral Home
was in charge of the arrangements.
Viola Wilhelmina Mary, was born on April 6, 1915, on the
family farm in Liberty Township, near Duncan, Iowa, the
daughter of Frank and Katherine (Korn) Vondracek. She
attended country school at Liberty School #3, helped on the
farm and did domestic work until her marriage.
Viola and Mark Mary Sr. were united in marriage on January
2, 1934, at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan,
with Msgr. Kapecky officiating. The couple farmed in the
Hayfield area for many years until retiring and moving to
Forest City.
Viola’s passion was to baby-sit the grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. She loved to cook and bake and share
with others. She was a member of the St. James Catholic
Church in Forest City.
She is survived by three sons and their spouses, Mark and
Jeanette Mary of Joice, Ron and Joyce Mary of Stockton, Missouri
and Robert and Cindy Mary of Forest City; 12 grandchildren;
25 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and
many nieces and nephews.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents; her husband,
Mark; five sisters, Rose Simmons, Anna Schleusner, Bertha
Morellis, Mary Williams, Clara O’Rourke and infant sister,
Agnes; brother, Frank Vondracek; half-sister, Ella Pavelka;
and grandson, Mark Mary III and his wife, Peggy.

Ronald D. Baken, 65
August 29, 2006
Ronald D. Baken, age 66, died on Thursday, August 24,
2006, at his home in Lakeville.
Funeral services were held on Monday, August 28, at the
Family of Christ Church, Lakeville, with visitation on
Sunday, at the White Funeral Home and one hour prior to the
service time at the church. Interment was in the Concordia
Cemetery, Joice.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Edna Bakken.
Ronald is survived by his wife, Jean; son, David; daughter,
Tammy and husband, Larry Gendron and their children, Aaron
and Ben; sisters, JoAnn Kellis of Des Moines, Nancy Swenson
of Forest City and Jean Pederson of Minneapolis; and aunts,
Ruth and Lorraine Nyhus of Forest City.
The White Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Virginia M. Dralla, 81
September 5, 2006
Virginia Mae Dralla, 81, of 406 Fertile Street, died on Saturday,
August 26, 2006, at her home.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 2, at the Grace
Lutheran Church, with Pastor Linda Johnson Prestholt officiating. Interment will be in
the Sunset Rest Cemetery,
Northwood. Visitation was on Friday, September 1, at the Conner Colonial
Chapel, Northwood and one hour of visitation prior
to the service time at the church on Saturday.
Virginia Mae Dralla, was born on February 17, 1925 in Hayward,
Minnesota, the daughter of Curtiss and Viola (Larson) Briggs. Virginia
graduated from the Albert Lea High School on June 1, 1944. Virginia was
united in marriage to Lloyd Dralla on March 14, 1945, in Northwood and to
this union nine children were born.
Virginia was an active volunteer at the Village Square at
Opportunity Village for many years. She was very dedicated to
Opportunity Village in Clear Lake. Virginia volunteered for the
Northwood-Kensett Schools helping children in reading and math. She was
a long time member of TOPS, Senior Citizen Center, Mason City, First
Lutheran Church, Northwood, Grace Lutheran Church, Hanlontown, where she
was active in both churches circles. Virginia’s greatest love was
spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
Virginia is survived by her children, Marian Montgomery and
special friend, Charles Thompson of Mason City, Janice (Robert) Hall of Mason
City, Corie (Richard) Rieman of Mason City, Christina (Howard) Shephard
of
Leland, Connie (Danny) Buckman of Forest City, Lloyd Dralla Jr. and
special friend, Vicky Robinson of Northwood, Curtiss (Terri) Dralla of
Rogers, Nebraska, Carl (Laura) Dralla of Northwood, Ginger (Travis) Holtz
of
Polk City; 14 Grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Sharon
(Douglas) Kyte of Welcome, Minnesota; brother, Curtiss (Mildred) Briggs
of Klamath
Falls, Oregon; brother-in-law, Dwanye Manthey of Harlingen, Texas;
sister-in-law, Hazel Shaw of Fargo, North Dakota; along with other relatives and
friends.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Curtiss and Viola
Briggs; husband, Lloyd on July 21, 1973; grandson, Jacob Dralla;
son-in-law, Perry Montgomery; sisters, Dorothy Kendall and Lila Manthey;
brother, Harold Briggs; sisters-in-law, Mayme Orvedal and Dorothy
Briggs; and brothers-in-law, Leo Dralla and John Kendall.

Thomas J. Reuter, 44
September 5, 2006
Thomas J. Reuter, age 44, of Forest City, died on Tuesday, August 29,
2006, at his home in Forest City.
A Mass of the Resurrection was

Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City. Visitation was from 4-7:00

Thomas John Reuter, was born in Mason City, Iowa on January 4,
1962, the son of Wilfred M. and Mary (Goetz) Reuter. He grew up in Mason
City, received his education there and graduated from the Newman High School
in 1980. He enjoyed playing football and wrestling while in high school.
He continued his education at NIACC and after completing a years
program in 1981, he began working as a welder for Winnebago Industries.
On August 25, 2000, he was married to Pam Sullivan. The couple made
Forest City their home.
Tom was an avid photographer, often stopping the car to get
“just the right shot” with a camera. He enjoyed fishing and liked to go
target shooting. He enjoyed time spent with his horses, whether it was
grooming and caring for them or trail riding. Tom’s family was always a
priority in his life, his kids came first.
He is survived by his wife, Pam of Forest City; twin sons with
the US Marine Corps, Shaun Reuter in Cuba and Jason Reuter in West
Virginia; a daughter, Jessica Reuter in Forest City; three
step-daughters, Melissa Cobb in Iowa City, Whitney Cobb and Wendy Cobb,
both of Forest City; his mother, Mary Reuter of
Mason City; his brother, Joseph Reuter and wife, Vicki of Mason City; his
sister, Jane Ogez and husband, Fred of Forest Lake, Minnesota; and the
family dog, Bingo.
Tom was preceded in death by his father.

Brian J. Thompson, 41
September 19, 2006
Brian J. Thompson, age 41, of Missouri Valley, Iowa, died on
Wednesday, August 30, 2006, at his home in Missouri Valley.
Visitation with the family was held
on Friday, September 15,
from 7-8:00 p.m., at the Hennessey-Adam Funeral Home in
Missouri Valley. Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 16,
at the Hennessey-Adam Funeral Home.
Brian was born on October 12, 1964 in Missouri Valley, to Gerald and
Alice (Gardner) Thompson. He received his GED and graduated with
a two-year degree in auto body from the Iowa Lakes Community College
in Garner. Brian was baptized in the St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Brian will be missed by his family, friends and
the hospital staff at Community Memorial Hospital, who spent
many hours with him.
Survivors include his parents, Gerald and Shirley Thompson of
Forest City; aunts, Sharon Thompson, Beverly Davis and husband,
Charles of Missouri Valley and Mary Jane Peterson of Modale; and
several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice; brother, Duane;
sister, Paula; grandparents, Rose and Robert Thompson and Alvin
and Dora Gardner.
