Marta Joy Anderson, infant daughter of James and Laurann Anderson,
was stillborn on Friday, June 2, 2006, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines,
Iowa. The Petersen Lund Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.

Charles Joseph Ruiter, 22
June 6, 2006
Charles Joseph Ruiter, was born in Mason City, Iowa, on February 10,
1984, the son of Byron and Barbara (Fank) Ruiter. He attended Forest City
Schools and graduated from the Forest City High School in 2002. On September 11,
2001, he was chosen the Forest City High School Homecoming King. Charlie
continued his education, graduating from NIACC in Mason City. While there, he
was chosen to participate in a week’s training with the John Pappajohn
Entrepreneurial Program. Charlie worked for Pizza Hut for six years, here in
Forest City and as store manager for the Algona Pizza Hut. Most recently he was
employed with Stellar Industries in Garner.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 7.
Charlie loved spending time with his family -
together, they had traveled over much of the United States. He enjoyed camping.
He liked to fish and grill and enjoyed listening to music. His family remembers
his wonderful sense of humor. He was a lifelong member of the St. James Catholic
Church in Forest City. He lived every minute of life to the fullest. He cared
for and loved all his friends and family.
Charlie is survived by his
fiancée, Kristen
Williams of Forest City; his parents, Byron "Barney" and Barb Ruiter of Forest
City; sister, Cynthia Ruiter and friend, Rick Query of Mason City; brother, Patrick Ruiter and
fiancée, Nicole Bengtson of Mason City; a niece and his little pal,
Lillian Vera; his maternal grandmother, Margaret Madsen of Forest City; paternal
grandparents, Willie and Vera Ruiter of Mason City; and many aunts, uncles,
cousins and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Joseph Charles Fank.

One-car crash kills
FC man
22-year-old Charles Ruiter dies Saturday
June 6, 2006

FOREST CITY — Charles Ruiter, 22, of Forest City, died early Saturday, June
3, 2006, in a single-vehicle accident on the city’s south side, according to
information from the Forest City Police Department.
Ruiter was a passenger in a 1995 Cadillac operated by Steven Dorenkamp, 23,
also of Forest City.
Dorenkamp was south-bound on Highway 69 at about 2:45 a.m., when he lost
control on a curve. His vehicle left the roadway and sheared off a utility
pole for a high-voltage electrical transmission line, according to the
police report. Ruiter was pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. Catherine
Butler, Hancock County Medical Examiner.
Both Dorenkamp and another passenger, Joshua Bartholomaus, 22, of Forest
City, were transported to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa where Dorenkamp
remains in fair condition. Bartholomaus has been released, a hospital
spokesman said.
The accident caused a power outage throughout Forest City, until a line
department crew replaced the damaged utility pole.
The Forest City paramedics, ambulance, fire department and Garner Fire
Department, Winnebago and Hancock County Sheriff’s Departments and Forest
City Municipal Line Department assisted at the scene of the accident, which
remains under investigation.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held today at 2:00 p.m., at the St. James
Catholic Church in Forest City, with the Rev. Jerry Blake officiating. Burial
will be in the St. James Catholic Cemetery.
Ruiter is the son of Byron "Barney" and Barbara Ruiter and is survived by
his fiancée, Kristen Williams.
Charlie worked for Pizza Hut for six years in Forest City and as store
manager for the Algona Pizza Hut. Most recently he was employed with Stellar
Industries in Garner.

Beverly Sue Determann, 44

Beverly Sue Determann, 44, of Forest City,
Iowa, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2006, at her home.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 9, at the Trinity
Presbyterian Church in Wall Lake, with burial in the Wall Lake
Cemetery. The Farber & Otteman Funeral Home was in charge of
the arrangements. Visitation was
on Thursday, June 8, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Wall Lake.
Beverly was born on November 25, 1961 in Manning, Iowa, to Melvin and Darlene
(Haack) Determann. She attended public schools and graduated from the Sac City High
School in 1980. She worked as a nurse’s aide at area nursing homes and also at
North Central in Forest City. The light of her life was her son, Justin and she
loved taking care of him.
She enjoyed her nieces and nephews and they liked to go to Mason City shopping
when Mom would come up to spend a few days. She was known and admired for her
beautiful embroidery she did for family and friends. Many quilts were fashioned
from those same embroidery blocks.
Survivors include her son, Justin Wolf at home; mother, Darlene Garrels of Wall
Lake; two brothers, Mark Determann and wife, Joyce and Kenneth Determann and wife,
Sue, both of Wall Lake; her nieces and nephews; and extended family members.
Bev was preceded in death by her father, Melvin in 1967; and stepfather, Lennis
Garrels in 2000.

Eldon Edward “Dick” Schutjer, 76, born on
January 23, 1930, died on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at the
Titonka Care Center. He was 76.
Funeral services were held at
the
St. John’s Lutheran Church in Woden, on Friday, June 9, at
11:00 a.m., with Pastor Arlen Lloyd officiating. Interment was
in the Buffalo Township Cemetery, Titonka, Iowa, with Military
Honors.

June 14, 2006
Wayne W. “Red” Meyer, age 70, of Lake Mills,
died on Saturday, June 10, 2006, at his home in Lake Mills.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, June
17, at the Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, with Pastor
Randy Baldwin officiating. A private family committal will
take place at a later time.
Visitation with the family will be on Friday, June 16, from 6-8:00 p.m., at the
Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills and will continue
one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.

Herbert Jensen, 92
June 20, 2006
Herbert Jensen, age 92, of Buffalo Center,
died on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at the Timely Mission Nursing Home
in Buffalo Center.
Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church, Buffalo
Center, with Pastor Shannon Pascual officiating. Interment was
in the Olena
Mound Cemetery in Buffalo Center. Visitation was at the Winter
Funeral Home in Buffalo Center and also one hour before the
services on Friday.
Herbert Madison Jensen, was born on September 27, 1913 in
Ringsted, Iowa, to Julius and Lena (Jeremiason) Jensen. At the
age of two, the family moved to the farmstead two miles west
and one mile north of Buffalo Center. He attended country
school. Herbert was united in marriage to Eva Westendorf on
October 20, 1936 in Forest City.
All his life, Herb was involved in farming, He first farmed
with his dad using horses. He later farmed with his son, Darrel
and his grandsons, Darrin and Chris Jensen. Fall was his
favorite time of the year.
He served as a director for the
country school and co-op.
He is survived by his daughters, Beverly Reller and husband,
Roger of Austin, Minnesota, Audrey Hartmann and husband,
Dick of San Marcos, Calfornia and Karen Buss and her husband, Russell of
Woden; a daughter-in-law, Ellen Molskness of Bricelyn, Minnesota; 13
grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eva;
son, Darrel; brother, Carl; and four sisters, Amelia, Florence,
Pearl and Helen.

Katherine Hanson Carlson, 93
June 20, 2006
Katherine Hanson Carlson, passed away
on Tuesday morning, June 13, 2006, at the Park
River Estates Care Center in Coon Rapids, Minnesota.
Funeral
services were held on Friday, June 16, at the Christ The King
Lutheran Church in Mankato. Interment was in the
Oakland Cemetery in Forest City, Iowa. Funeral arrangements were
made by the
Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel in Coon Rapids, Minnesota.
Katherine was born in Forest
City, Iowa, on October 15, 1912 to Henry and Anna Hanson. She
was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She received
her education in the local schools and graduated from Waldorf
College in Forest City. After graduation from Waldorf, she was
employed in the offices of the State Bureau of Criminal
Investigation in Des Moines, Iowa, for several years and was
later employed by the Iowa State Senate.
On November 19, 1937, she was married to Arthur Carlson. She
and her husband spent several years farming in rural Winnebago
County. They had two daughters.
In 1950, she and her family
moved to Forest City where she spent the next fourteen years
being a home maker and helping out in many church and
community organizations. At the Immanuel Lutheran Church, she was
active in the Parish Board of Education, the Altar Guild, the ALCW and a Circle. She also taught Sunday
School and sang in
the choir. In the community, she was active in the PTA and the
Band Mother’s Club.
She moved with her husband to Mankato, Minnesota, in 1966 and
joined the Christ The King Lutheran Church, where she was active in
the Altar Guild and the ALCW. In 1970, she moved to
Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she worked with her husband in
Property Management. They returned to Mankato in 1974 at which
time they retired.
She is survived by two daughters, Sherill Bright and husband,
Richard of San Antonio, Texas and Lois Wagner and husband, Dean
of Andover, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Deborah Hill
and husband, Bill of Salt Lake City, Utah, Kevin Wagner of
Fridley, Minnesota and Lori Vigesaa and husband, Erik of Osseo,
Minnesota; four great-grandchildren, Joe Veroven
and wife, Audra of Waseca, Minnesota, Lucas Veroven of Yankton,
South Dakota, Whitney Veroven of St. Clair, Minnesota and Haydyn Vigesaa
of Osseo, Minnesota; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; parents;
brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Lucille Hanson and Herb
and Lenore Hanson; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Lorraine
and Harold Bartleson, Josephine and Ralph Brighton, Rosalia
and Sewell Nelson, Lenore and Charles Peterson and Myrtle and
Albert Olson.

Patricia R. Eastvold, 59

Patricia R. Eastvold, age 59, of Forest City,
died on Friday, June 16, 2006, at the Muse Norris Hospice
Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services were held
on
Tuesday, June 20, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City,
with Pastor Lee Laaveg officiating. Burial was in the Madison
Township Cemetery in Forest City. Visitation was at the
funeral home and an hour prior to the services at the church.

Patricia Ruth Eastvold, was born in Rake, Iowa, on February 8,
1947, the daughter of Oscar and Lillian (Thompson) Russ. Her
father died when she was young and her mother married Odin
Johnson. The family made their home in Rake where Pat grew up
and attended school. She graduated as class salutatorian of
the Rake High School Class of 1965.
She married Allen Eastvold at the Zion Lutheran Church in Rake, on
June 4, 1966. The couple recently celebrated their 40th
wedding anniversary. Allen was a pilot for Eastern Airlines so
the family lived in many different communities over the years.
In 1977, Pat and Allen made their home in Forest City, while
Allen continued working for Eastern.
Pat was a dedicated wife,
mother and homemaker. She was an avid reader and liked doing
cross-stitch and crossword puzzles. She enjoyed family trips
to the sprint car races in Knoxville.
Pat enjoyed gardening and loved music, at one time playing the
French horn, organ and piano. She liked keeping up with
friends and family via e-mail and treasured time spent with
her grandchildren.
Pat is survived by her husband of 40 years, Allen Eastvold of
Forest City; her three children, Tim and Melissa Eastvold
of Forest City and their children, Julia and Michael; Darla and
Brad Evenson of Lake Mills and their children, Scott, Drake,
Amelia and Hannah; and Matt Eastvold of Lake Mills; a sister, Lou Ann Van Gerpen and husband, Pete of
Rake; her mother-in-law, Bessie Eastvold of Rake; a
sister-in-law, Irene Russ of Minneapolis, Minnesota; three
brothers-in-law and their families, Jim of Des Moines, Paul of
Springfield, Illinois and Darrell of Mankato, Minnesota; and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Odin
Johnson; and a brother, Ron Russ.

Keith G. Krull, age 61, of Scarville, Iowa,
died on Saturday, June 17, 2006, at his farm near Scarville.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, June 21,
at the Winnebago Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills, with
Rev. Bill Peters and Rev. Randy Baldwin officiating. Military
honors were conducted by the Otto Chose Post #235 of the
American Legion. Following the service, cremation will take
place with private family inurnment at a later date.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, June 20, from 4-7:00
p.m., at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake
Mills and continued one hour prior to the services at the church
on Wednesday.

Shirley Henning, 75

Shirley A. Henning, age 75, of rural Fertile,
died on Sunday, June 18, 2006, at the Muse Norris Hospice
Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services were held
on Friday, June
23, at the Pilot Knob Lutheran Church in rural Forest City, with
Pastor Robert Snitzer officiating. Burial was in the Pilot
Knob Cemetery. Visitation was on Thursday, June 22, at the funeral
home and an hour prior to the services at the church. The Petersen Lund
Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Shirley Ann Henning, the daughter of James and Martha
(Johnson) Wentworth was born on November 26, 1930 in Buffalo
Center, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran
faith and attended school in Buffalo Center.
On December 21, 1949, she was united in marriage to Ernest
Henning. From this blessed union six children were born.
Ernest and Shirley farmed around Kiester, Minnesota and rural
Fertile all their married lives. Shirley was also employed
outside the home. She worked for Winnebago Industries for many
years and retired in 1991. She also kept the books for the
family farm and mowing business.
Shirley loved spending time with her family. She was a
wonderful mother and grandmother. She loved her Lord and
Savior with all her heart and cherished her family. She was a
member of the Pilot Knob Lutheran Church.
Left to cherish her memory are Ernie Henning Jr. of Forest
City, Gary (Linda) Henning of Stevensville, Montana, Marion
(Gary) Prevot of Lakewood, Washington, Robert Henning of Forest
City, Herman (Marlene) Henning of Leland, Doug (Ruth) Henning
of Fertile and Sherry (Greg) Flugum of Forest City; 13
grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and
nephews.
Also surviving is a sister, Myrna (Larry) Akers of Exira, Iowa;
and five brothers, Douglas (Darlene) Wentworth of Forest City,
Steven (Ardelle) Wentworth of Brainerd, Minnesota, Jimmy (Elaine)
Wentworth of Brainerd, Minnesota, Kerry Wentworth of Thompson and
Alan (Evi) Wentworth of Englewood, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; her parents
and grandparents; sisters, Gloria Berhow, Marilyn Cherry,
Norma Yeries and Maureen who died in infancy; and brothers, Arlan
and Marion, who died as infants.

Jorth, 71

Allan Jorth, 71, of Webster City, died on
Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at the Southfield Wellness Community.
Funeral services were held
on Friday, at the Foster Chapel, with
Pastor John Fuller officiating. Burial was in the Concordia
Cemetery at Joice, Iowa. Visitation was at the Foster Funeral
and Cremation Center, on Thursday and prior to the services on
Friday.
Allan Reuben Jorth, son of Oscar and Elizabeth Beck Jorth, was
born on June 23, 1934 at Fostoria, Iowa. He attended the Milford High
School, graduating in 1952. On March 16, 1952, he married
Darlene Marchand at Milford. He was the bookkeeper at the
Terril Cooperative, manager at the Vincent Cooperative from
1959 to 1972 and the Joice Cooperative from 1972 to 1977. On
December 31, 1977, he married Sharyl Johnson Anonson at
Webster City. From 1977 until his retirement in 1996, he was
general manager of the Webster City United Cooperative. Sharyl
died on May 14, 2006.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Webster City
Country Club and the Wobbly Old Retired Managers Club.
Al is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Randy
Schulze of Forest City and Terri and Rob Inouye of Cedar Falls;
sons and daughter-in-law, Robert Jorth of Kalamazoo, Michigan
and
Randy and Cindy Jorth of Joice; step-children, Jill Anonson of
Des Moines, Jake and Jill Anonson of West Des Moines and Jon and
Kelly Anonson of Urbandale; grandchildren, Jeff and Kari
Jorth, Brent and Amanda Jorth, Derek Thompson, Peter Jorth,
Sylvia Jorth and Erin Inouye; step-grandchildren, Keara,
Matilynn, Camryn and Claire Anonson; great-grandsons, Jaxson
and Carter Jorth; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sylia Foreman
of Jacksonville, Florida, Marjorie and Don Wahlgren of Gowrie,

Ver Hoef, 92

Lois Ver Hoef, age 92, of Forest City, died on
Saturday, June 24, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest
City.
Funeral services will be
held on Thursday, June 29, at 1:30
p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Forest City, with Pastor
Jerald Swanberg officiating. Burial will be in the Madison
Township Cemetery in rural Forest City. Visitation will be
from 5-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, June 28, at the funeral home and an
hour prior to the services at the church. The Petersen Lund Funeral
Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Lois N. Ver Hoef, was born on September 30, 1913, one of eleven
children to Nels and Lily (Jacobson) Thompson. She received
her education in the Forest City Schools.
She was united in marriage to Herman Ver Hoef on March 15,
1934 in Forest City, where they made their home their entire
lives, first on the farm and later moving to town.
Through the years at one time they operated Herman’s Cafe. She
also worked at Smith’s Firestone, Bowen’s Food Center and
Vince’s Hardware. Lois also would help out with cleaning for
friends.
The couple enjoyed camping with Merle and Tharin and playing
cards. The girls also liked going shopping together. Lois was
a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church and a member
of the Rachel Circle, where she was a tireless worker helping at
bazaars and “making jelly.” She was never happier than when
she was helping others, taking food to the sick and shut-ins.
She was a constant companion of her sister, Uva at the nursing
home, visiting daily and bringing goodies. She enjoyed
spending time with nieces and nephews and always helping out
if there was a need.
Lois is survived by her sister, Uva Hanson of Forest City;
brothers-in-law, Junior (Marg) Ver Hoef and Donald Gahan;
sisters-in-law, Nancy Steffen and Willetta Thompson; and many
nieces and nephews. Also special caregivers nieces; Deb and Robin;
and friends, Tharin and Edna.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman;
brothers, Bill, Dorn, Forest and Vernon; sisters, Fern, Myrtle,
Evangeline and DeEtta; and a brother, Marvin Dean who died in
infancy.

Brandon L. Thomas, 23

Brandon L. Thomas, age 23, of Lake Mills, formerly of Forest City, died
on
Monday, June 26, 2006, at his home in Lake Mills, due to complications of asthma.
A Celebration of Life was held
on
Friday, June 30, at the First Baptist Church in Forest City, with Pastor Larry
Kidwell officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Forest City. Visitation
was on Thursday, June 29, at the funeral home and an hour prior to the services at the
church. The Petersen Lund Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Brandon Lee Thomas (better known to his friends as “BLT”), was
born on June 4, 1983 in Hampton, the son of Gary and Lori (Curtis) Thomas. Brandon attended K-9 at the Forest City Christian School and
graduated with honors from the Forest City High School in 2002. He was a 2005
graduate of Waldorf College in Forest City with business degrees in marketing
and management. Brandon was on staff with the Campus Crusade for Christ’s High
School ministry, Student Venture. He was in the process of raising monthly
support where eventually he would arrive at his assignment, working in their
International Ministries Department based in Orlando, Florida. Brandon was
planning to be married on August 26, 2006 to Elizabeth “Liz” Wellendorf in
Lexington, Illinois.
Brandon was a very energetic, funny and caring young man
whose passion was to serve Jesus Christ. Brandon was definitely set apart by God
to do His work having given his life to the Lord at the young age of 4. He was
baptized at the First Baptist Church in Forest City in May 2005. In high school he
won the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Scholarship as a sophomore in 2000 and
had continued to work as a volunteer with HOBY every year since with a heart to
minister to youth.
Brandon will be greatly missed by his beloved wife to be,
Elizabeth Wellendorf of Lake Mills: his parents, Gary Thomas of Lake Mills and Lori
Thomas of Clear Lake; his brother, Chris Thomas and sister, Arianna Thomas, both of
Clear Lake; his aunt and uncle, Hope and Curt Enerson of York, Pennsylvania; cousins, Caleb
and Brittni Enerson of York, Pennsylvania; his best friend, Sam Missal of Forest City; his
grandparents, Glen and Henrietta Curtis of Forsyth, Missouri, Kevin and Elizabeth Knaap
of Fredricksburg, Virginia, James and Beverly Thomas of Mason City; and the entire Wellendorf Family, David, Carol, Rebekah, Jessica, Christine, Christopher,

Merle
Tuttle, 62
July 12, 2006
Merle L. Tuttle, 62, of Clear Lake, died on
Thursday, June 29, 2006, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit
of North Iowa, Mason City.
Funeral services were held
on Monday,
July 3, at the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, with Rev.
Diana Hoover officiating. Visitation was on Sunday, at the Ward-Van
Slyke Colonial Chapel in Clear Lake. Interment was in the
Grant Township Cemetery, rural Fertile. Memorials may be given
to the Hospice of North Iowa in his name.
Merle was born on September 16, 1943 in rural Clarion, Iowa, the son
of Morgan Levard and Ethel Mae (Luick) Tuttle. His family
moved when he was young to Fertile. He graduated from the Fertile
High School in 1962. Merle married Mickey Klasse on February 6, 1965.
They lived in rural Clear Lake, then moved to rural Fertile.
They divorced in 1987. He farmed in the Clear Lake-Fertile
areas for the majority of his life. In the late 70’s and early
80’s he owned and operated the Tuttle Feed Store in Clear Lake and
Fertile. He also worked for his brother, Bob at Tuttle Asphalt.
He last worked as a truck driver for Mason City Recycling,
retiring in March of 2006.
Merle liked to travel, spending time with friends and family,
flying earlier in life and an occasional game of golf. He
dabbled in politics. He was a member of the United Methodist
Church.
Merle is survived by three children, Bill Tuttle and fiancée,
Tonya Runge of Mason City, Becky Ubben and her husband, Matt

Clear Lake and Jennifer Tuttle and her special friend, Adam
Duffy of Mason City; grandchildren, Sadie Lundry, Codie Ubben,
Morgan Williams and Treasure Runge; sister, Betty Waddington
of
Hanlontown; brother, Bob Tuttle and his wife, Deb of Mason
City; and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Merle was preceded in death by his parents; 2 infant brothers,
Leo Dean and William Robert Tuttle; brother, Larry Lee Tuttle;
and brother-in-law, Don Waddington.
The Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of the
arrangements.
