Robin Laureen Field Rosson

October 12, 2010

Mebane, NC – Robin Laureen Field Rosson, passed away on Wednesday, October 6, 2010, of complications from breast cancer with which she was diagnosed on February 13, 2006.

The funeral service was conducted at the St. Mark’s Church on Saturday, October 9, at 2:00 p.m., by Rev. Todd Maberry and Rev. Eric Allred. Her ashes will be scattered into the water of nearby Rock Creek. Robin’s headstone will be next to Gary’s in the Rock Creek Cemetery near her grandparents, Carl and Myrtle Christiansen.

Robin was born in Mitchell County, Iowa, on September 1, 1959, to Helen Janet Christiansen Field and Roger Lee Field (deceased). She was baptized in 1959 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church in Meroa, Iowa.

Surviving family members are her loving husband, Gary B. Rosson and her treasured sons, Paul and Ryan Fox, all of Mebane, North Carolina; her mother, Helen Christiansen Randolph of Dallas, Texas; her siblings, Rebecca Field Tate and son, Sean of Durham, North Carolina, Loren S. Field and his wife, Lenore and children, Lauren and Nolan of Hinton, Iowa and Ward C. Field and his wife, Shannon and children, Megan and Shane of Pine Island, Minnesota.

Robin graduated from the Osage Community High School in Osage, Iowa in 1977. She had various jobs in Iowa before moving to Houston, Texas, where she was employed by the Century Development Company. After moving to California in the late 1980s, Robin attended community college for two years. She also worked for several years in marketing for a savings and loan and later was communications director for the Regional YMCA. After living in Minnesota and Iowa from 1996 to 2001, she and her sons, Paul and Ryan, moved to North Carolina.

Robin and her sister, Becky, raised their families together in the community of “Solterra” in Durham for several years. God brought Gary and Robin together as husband and wife at the Hope Creek Church in Durham, North Carolina on March 4, 2006. Their new family moved to the Mebane countryside in August 2007, where Robin worked at ArcaTech Systems, a cash transaction company in Mebane, before a recurrence of cancer in April 2009. The family attends St. Marks, an interdenominational church, in Mebane.

Norbert Klapperich

 

October 12, 2010

Norbert Klapperich, 81, of Stacyville, died on Monday, October 11, 2010, at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home. 
 

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, October 15, at the Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, with Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be in the Visitation Cemetery, Stacyville. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening, from 4-8:00 p.m., at the Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.   
 

Norbert Klapperich, was born on July 10, 1929, to Ben and Rose (Weber) Klapperich in Meyer, Iowa. He was the youngest of 10 children. He attended school at Meyer. On September 12, 1956, he married Mary Ann Koenigs at the Sacred Heart Church in Meyer. To this union 6 children were born.   
 

Norb loved sports all his life and was very active in baseball and golf. He enjoyed watching all the sports his children and grandchildren were in.  Norb loved music and was a member of choirs both in Meyer and Stacyville. He was a 40 year member of the Forte Milers Barbershop chorus. He was a very good dancer and together he and Mary Ann had a lot of practice at the Terp Ballroom every Friday night.
   

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lawerence, Isidore, John, Leo, Fred and Willie Klapperich; a sister, Hildegard Halbach; and brother-in-law Marvin Koenigs.   
 

Norb is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; 6 children, Steve (Laura), Lori (John), Dennis (Monique), Pam (Darren), Brian and Tim; grandchildren, Allison and Ben Klapperich, Kathy (Josh) Borders and Donald, Emma and Tess Clarkson; Josh, Taylor and Caleb Groth; one brother,  Carl (Caddy); one sister, Mary Elizabeth; and two sisters-in-law, Ester and Estelle. 



Robert F. "Bob" Heller

October 15, 2010

Robert F. "Bob" Heller, 78, of Charles City, died on Thursday morning, October 14, 2010, at Cedar Health in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, at the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Charles City. Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City, from 5-8:00 p.m., on Sunday and after 9:00 a.m. at the church on Monday.

Robert Francis Heller, was born on September 27, 1932 in Orchard, the son of Verle and Natalie (Newton) Heller. He graduated from the Orchard High School in 1950. On June 18, 1955, he was united in marriage to Verla Kamin at the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Bob was a carpenter for Triad Construction for 25 years, Quade Construction for 10 years and Comprehensive Systems until his retirement in 1990. Along with carpentry, Bob farmed in the Charles City area.

He was a member of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Moose Lodge and Card Club. Bob was a 4H Leader. His interests included woodworking, mushroom hunting, collecting coins, watching birds, gardening, tractors, his model A Ford and driving around checking on the crops.

Living family members include his wife, Verla Heller of Charles City; four children, Jean (Wayne) King of Charles City, Jeff (Mary) Heller of Tallahassee, Florida, Jill Jensen and special friend, Dave Schultz of Greene and Jim Heller of Charles City; eight grandchildren; brother-in-law, John Bauman of Osage; sister-in-law, Linda Heller of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Ferlin Jensen; sister, Betty Bauman; and brother, Kenneth Heller.

Clayton D. Chambers

October 15, 2010

Clayton D. Chambers, 81, of Marble Rock, died on Thursday, October 14, 2010, at his home.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church at Roseville. Monsignor Walter Brunkan will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit. Friends may call at the St. Mary's School in Roseville, from 4-8:00 p.m., on Sunday, where there will be a Vigil Scriptural Wake Service at 7:30 p.m. followed by the reciting of the Rosary. Visitation will continue on Monday an hour prior to the Mass.

Clayton Donald Chambers, was born on April 13, 1929 at Colwell, the son of Clayton "Glenn" and Nellie (Hildebrand) Chambers. He received his education in rural Floyd County Schools. Clayton proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On January 16, 1960, he was united in marriage to Rose Mary Hansen at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Whittemore. Clayton and Rose Mary farmed and raised livestock in the Marble Rock area all their lives.

He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, where he had served on the parish council, the Cattlemen's Association and was a 4-H Leader. He enjoyed farming, playing cards, watching westerns and pitching softball for his children and grandchildren. Family, especially his grandchildren, were always very important to Clayton and he looked forward to sharing his life with them.

Living family members include his wife, Rose Mary of Marble Rock; eight children, David Chambers of Osage, Paul (Heather) Chambers of Nashua, Karen (Keith) Heckstein of Osage, Thomas (Debra) Chambers of Charles City, Mark (Anne) Chambers of Marble Rock, Janice (Chad) Shultz of Greene, Peggy (Chad) Seidel of Cedar Falls and Sara Chambers of Rudd; 25 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wesley Chambers of Colwell and Lewis (Margaret) Chambers of Marble Rock; two sisters, Dorothy Bill of Riceville and Marion Meek of Rochester, Minnesota; a sister-in-law, Fern Chambers of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Roy Chambers; and two sisters, Edith Bill and Edna Ferch.

Alice L. Clausen

 

October 19, 2010

Alice L. Clausen, age 91, of Adams, Minnesota and formerly of Osage, died on Thursday, October 14, 2010, at the Austin Medical Center in Austin, Minnesota.
 

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., on Monday, October 18, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with Rev. Kris Anderson officiating. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery at Riceville.
 

Alice was born on March 4, 1919 near Crystal Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Martin and Rachel (Davis) Rasmussen. She married Floyd Clausen on November 12, 1942 at Riceville, Iowa. They farmed in the David area, moving to Osage in 1948. Alice was employed at the Faith Lutheran Home and Maple Manor Nursing Home, both in Osage. 
 

Alice is survived by two children, Charlene (Herb) Merten of Taopi, Minnesota and Marty Clausen of Osage; four grandchildren, Carol Billings of Austin, Minnesota, John (fiancée, Tracy Tindal) Merten of Austin, Minnesota, Todd (Katie) Clausen of Cedar Falls, Mike (Nikki) Clausen of Green Bay, Wisconsin; eight great-grandchildren, Emily, Zakk, Nicholas, Natalie, Paige, Jackson, Rayanna and Ethyn; one sister, Darlene Summers of Floyd; two brothers, Roger (Leona) Rasmussen of Nora Springs and Archie (Ruth) Rasmussen of Mason City; sisters-in-law, Jean Clausen, Mary (Bob) Weed, Ruby Harold, Grace Rasmussen;  brother-in-law, Doug Walker; and many nieces and nephews.
 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Winnie; her husband, Floyd Clausen in 1967; three sisters, Ann, Vi, Mary; and three brothers, Eddie, Gene, and Dick.

Dale A. Lonergan

 

October 19, 2010

Dale A. Lonergan, 78, of Charles City, died on Thursday, October 14, 2010, at the Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.
 

No services are being planned at this time.
 

Dale Allen Lonergan, was born on April 9, 1932 in Mitchell County, the son of Charles and Ruth (Gunsallas) Lonergan. He received his education from Mitchell County schools. Dale joined the United States Marine Corps serving in the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1953. During this time he served six months aboard a ship of the U.S. Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean area. He was wounded in Korea and received the Purple Heart at the age of 20. In 1956, he was united in marriage to Gail Meyer and they later divorced. He then married Patricia Miller in 1966 and they later divorced. Dale was united in marriage to Laura Young on June 26, 1996. Over the years he worked as a self-employed carpenter. 


Dale enjoyed fishing, gardening, bird watching, taking walks and Norwegian Elk Hounds. He will always be remembered for his good sense of humor.
 

Living family members include his wife, Laura Lonergan of Charles City; three children, Russell Lonergan of Waterloo, Shirley (Ed) Platte of Charles City and Rebecca Lonergan of Forreston, Illinois; four grandchildren, Aaron and Abigail Platte and Rachael and Joshua Deletzke; two brothers, Roland (Grace) Lonergan of Mason City and Robert (Jean) Lonergan of Dexter, Minnesota; a sister, Catherine (Corliss) Estergren of Chaska, Minnesota; and a sister-in-law, Bettylu Lonergan of Muskegon, Michigan.
 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenneth Lonergan; and a sister, Pauline Whalen.

Michael "Mike" Shoars

October 20, 2010

Michael "Mike" Shoars, age 59, of Orchard, died on Sunday, October 17, 2010, at the McAlester Regional Health Center in McAlester, Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on  Friday, October 22, at the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, with Rev. Roy Ott and  John Murray of Denison Texas officiating. Burial will be in the Orchard Cemetery in Orchard, Iowa. Visitation is from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., on Thursday, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church.

Mike was born on February 17, 1951 in Charles City, Iowa, the son of Arthur Shoars and Donna (Roberts) Folmer. Mike grew up where he presently lived and truly enjoyed life on the acreage. He attended schools in Orchard until its closing and graduated from the Osage Community High School in 1969. Mike attended two years of college at NIACC. He met Deanna Thome and they began their life together on September 1, 1973. Mike worked at White Farm until 1980, when he started doing floor coverings, first as a trade layer and then working for Champion Furniture for 14 plus years before opening Spring Creek Floor Coverings in 1999.

Mike enjoyed his grandchildren and especially enjoyed four-wheeling with them. He also enjoyed fishing, woodworking, driving their 1969 Mach1 Mustang, spending time in Texas with friends and his four legged companion, Nina.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Deanna Shoars of Orchard; his mother, Donna Folmer of Osage; two sons, Chad (Laura) Shoars of Osage and Chris (Lisa) Shoars of Orchard; four grandchildren, Nicolas, Natalie, Kylah, Josie; one sister, Connie (Mike) Whitten of Charlotte, North Carolina; one sister-in-law, Joeleen Samec of New Hampton; and best friends, John and Christina Murray of Denison, Texas and Randy and Mary Ervin of Newton. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Shoars; his step-father, Fabian Folmer; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roman and Wave Thome.

Marvin J. Rogers

October 20, 2010

Marvin J. Rogers, age 76, of Osage, died on Tuesday, October 19, 2010, in Osage.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, October 22, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, with Military Honors at the grave by the Osage V.F.W. Post 7920. Visitation will be from 5-7:30 p.m., on Thursday, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 5:30 p.m. and a scripture wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Marvin was born on May 28, 1934 in Osage, the son of Joseph and Mabel (Weinberger) Rogers. He was educated in rural schools and then served in the United States Army. Marvin was united in marriage to Beverly Lepper on May 12, 1962 in Mason City. They lived and raised their family in Osage. Beverly passed away in January 2002. Marvin was united in marriage to Marilyn Schaefer on November 26, 2004 in Meyer. They made their home in Osage. 

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Marvin enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his family.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Marilyn Rogers of Osage; five children, Laurinda (Bob) Darling of Ankeny, Curt (Dee) Rogers of Clear Lake, Sandra (James) Wohkittel of Polk City, Kevin (Cindy) Rogers of Osage and Joanne (Dennis) Kuntz of Ames; twelve grandchildren, Elissa and Jerad Darling, Becca Rogers, J.J., Max and Shawn Wohkittel, Kala and Lucas Rogers, Brittany, Kaitlin, Jorden and Kaden Kuntz; six step-children, MaryLou (Gary) Byrd of Donahue, David Schaefer of Edina, Minnesota, Alan (Judy) Schaefer of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, Jane (Jim) Kramer of Oakton, Virginia, Brian (Kim) Schaefer of Stacyville, Vicky (Ron) Richard, Galena, Illinois; fourteen step-grandchildren; three brothers, Jerry Rogers of Osage, Galen Rogers of Austin, Minnesota and Brother Damian Rogers of Collegeville, Minnesota; six sisters, Marie Boerjan of St. Ansgar, Monica Faas of Stacyville, Marilyn (Bob) Doyle of Melrose, Minnesota, Eileen Kleckner of Osage, Kathleen (Jim) Prokapec of Claremont, Minnesota and Lorriane (Joe) Prokapec of Owatonna, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Beverly; and two brothers, Maurice and Clair Rogers.

Pedestrian Dies In Accident

October 19, 2010

At approximately 11:04 a.m., Tuesday morning, Marvin Rogers, 76, of Osage, was walking at the intersection of Vine and 5th Street when he was fatally injured by a Jendro sanitation truck, driven by Samuel Scott, 38, of Greene.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Scott was backing south on 5th Street when he made contact with Rogers, who was walking on the roadway.

Senior Trooper Chuck McNally said an investigation is continuing with witnesses being interviewed.

Assisting the State Patrol was the Osage Police Department, Mitchell County Sheriff's Department, Osage Fire Department and Ambulance.



Kenneth Nicholas Theobald

October 21, 2010

Kenneth Nicholas Theobald, 69, of Stacyville, died on Wednesday, October 19, 2010, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage, at 3:00 p.m.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, October 23, at the Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, with Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Visitation Cemetery, Stacyville. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 22, at the Visitation Catholic Church, from 4-8:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m.  

Kenneth Nicholas Theobald, was born on December 5, 1940 in Stacyville, Iowa, the son of Carl and Irma (Durben) Theobald. Ken graduated from the Visitation High School in 1959. He was a member of the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. His favorite past times growing up included playing sports, fishing, driving and spending time with friends. After high school, Ken enlisted in the Army. He attended basic training at Fort Hood, Texas, and then spent 19 months stationed in Fort Richardson, Alaska, as a member of the 23rd Battle Group, 2nd Armored Division. After being discharged from the Army, Ken returned to Stacyville to join his dad, Carl and brother, Glen in the family business. 

Ken worked in parts and sales at the Theobald Implement Company until 1985. At that time, Ken and his son, Todd, started Theobald Custom Manufacturing, where Ken worked until his retirement in 2005. During his time in sales, Ken told many stories, traveled many miles and met hundreds of great people, many of whom he kept in touch with throughout his lifetime. 

Ken loved fishing, hunting, playing cards, making others laugh, traveling, and spending time with his family. Later in life, Ken enjoyed family gatherings, visits with friends, tending to his flowers in the backyard, feeding the birds, and time spent on the Gulf Coast. 

Ken met Ann Hebert of Caspian, Michigan, at the St. Mary's School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota and the two were married on July 17, 1965, at the St. Cecelia's Church in Caspian, Michigan. Ken and Ann have four children, Todd (Julie) Theobald of Osceola, Wisconsin, Lynn (Phil) Baldus of St. Ansgar, Amy (Chris) May of Parkersburg and Jill (Rusty) Theobald of Denver, Iowa. Christel (Sebastian) Wassmann of Göttingen, Germany, is another special member of the family. Grandchildren include Chantal Wilson, Theo and Kira Baldus, C.J. and Nicole May and Austin and Jaylee Fromm and one great-granddaughter, Savannah Wilson. 

Ken is survived by his sister, Helen Hemann of Austin, Minnesota; and his brothers, Glen Theobald of Lake City, Minnesota and Roger Theobald of Elkhorn, Nebraska.  Ken also has many beloved nieces and nephews. 

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Irma Theobald; his in-laws, Dominic and Lorraine Hebert; his brothers, Robert and Roy Theobald; and his brother-in-law, Willie Hemann. 

Through his death, Ken will continue to help others through the donation of his body to the Mayo Clinic. His laughter and smile will be greatly missed.

Georgia Emma Carter

October 21, 2010

Georgia Emma Carter, age 95, of Osage, died on Thursday, October 21, 2010, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, October 24, at the First United Methodist Church in Osage, with Rev. Anna Blaedel officiating. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, October 25, in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-7:00 p.m., on Saturday, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage and will continue one hour before the services at the church.

Georgia was born on July 27, 1915, on her grandparent's farm near Lime Springs, Iowa, the daughter of John "Jack" and Abbie (Ruesink) Metz. She graduated from the Osage High School in 1933. Georgia married Leo Carter on April 28, 1934 in Osage. They farmed near Osage and moved to town in 1983. Georgia was a high school secretary for the Osage Community Schools for 21 years.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and taught Sunday School. Georgia was a member of the Osage Wa-Tan-Ye and was a 4-H Leader. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, sewing and craft work.

Georgia is survived by one daughter, Rozanne (John) Mehmen of Osage; and her grandchildren, Kelli (Matt) Miller and their children, Madeline, Olivia and Rafe of Osage and Kyle (Amy) Mehmen and their children, Connor and Paige of Osage.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo in 1984; an infant son, Burton Carter; a daughter, Rita Carter; two sisters, Ada Metz and Viola Angell; and one brother, John P. Metz, II.

Verva G. Michaels

October 26, 2010

Verva G. Michaels, 83, of St. Ansgar, died on Thursday, October 21, 2010, at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, October 26, at the First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with Rev. Robert Porisch officiating. Burial was in the First Lutheran Cemetery.

Verva Grace Michaels, was born on June 20, 1927, to Edward and Olive (Goldthorpe) Chehock in Plymouth, Iowa. She was baptized in the Plymouth Methodist Church. Verva graduated from the Plymouth High School in 1945 and attended Hamilton Business College, now Kaplan University, graduating in 1947. Following graduation she worked at the Iowa Retail Hardware Assoc. in Mason City. On October 22, 1947, Verva married LaVerne R. Michaels at the Plymouth Methodist Church. They lived in St. Ansgar and to this union three children were born. She worked as secretary to the Principal at the St. Ansgar High School for 20 years, retiring in 1988.

Verva enjoyed traveling, shopping, and golf, but her greatest enjoyment was the time she spent with her family. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church, active in the Mary Ruth circle, Clausen Colony Questers and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Verva is survived by her children, Suzanne (Dean) Shoars of Waverly, Steven (Mary Jane) Michaels and Mark Michaels of St. Ansgar; five grandchildren, Jason (Jennifer) Shoars of Waverly, Ryan (Lynne) Shoars of Tampa, Florida, Brendan (Sequoyah) Shoars of Spring Creek, Nevada, Dr. Lindsey Michaels of Iowa City, Laura Michaels of Chicago, Illinois; five great-grandchildren, Jackson, Garret and Jillian Shoars, Taylor Shoars and Sienna Shoars; one sister, Shella E. (Don) Anderson of Carson City, Nevada; and brother-in-law, Gerald (Mary Ann) Halverson of St. Ansgar.
