Clear Lake, Iowa-Darlene Jean Bublitz, formerly of St.
Ansgar, Iowa, died on Friday, January 1, 2010, at the Muse
Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
Memorial services were
held on Tuesday, January 5, at 1:30 p.m., at the Immanuel
Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with Rev. Dr. Byron Northwick
officiating. Burial was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery,
St. Ansgar. The Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar
was in charge of the arrangements.
Darlene was born on June
16, 1956, at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital, Osage,
Iowa, to Robert and Patricia (Cummings) Bublitz of St.
Ansgar. She graduated from the St. Ansgar High School in
1974. She suffered a stroke in 1976. After hospitalization
and rehabilitation, in 1979 she moved to Clear Lake, Iowa,
where she spent the next 30 years with the caring staff and
residents at Opportunity Village. They were all considered
part of her extended family.
She was preceded in death
by her father, Robert Bublitz; brother, Curtis;
grandparents, Arnold and Wilma Bublitz, Mike and Viola
Cummings; and three uncles.
Left to cherish her memory
is her mother, Patricia Bublitz; a brother, James (Julie)
Bublitz of Waverly; a sister, JoAnn (John) Fischer of
Mitchell, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Shane (Shelly) Bublitz,
Nick (Beth) Bublitz, Jamie (Bill) Hennessey and Jesse
(Katie) Fischer; great-nieces and nephews, Parker, Keagan
and Ava Hennessey; Wesley Johnson and Leah Fischer; and four
aunts, two uncles, several cousins and her special family,
the Staff and Residents of Opportunity Village.

Benjamin Davis
January 8, 2010
Benjamin Francis Davis, passed away at the Spencer Hospital
on Sunday, January 3, 2010, at the age of 83.
Funeral services was held
at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, January 7, at the Sacred Heart
Catholic Church, Spencer, Iowa, with Father William
Schreiber officiating. Interment was in the Riverside
Cemetery, Spencer, with a military flag presentation by the
American Legion Glen Pedersen Post #1, Spencer.
Benjamin Francis Davis,
the son of Elmer and Sophia Ponach Davis, was born on July
30, 1926 in Princeton, Minnesota. His childhood years were
spent in Cresco, where he received his education, graduating
from the Cresco High School in 1943. He later attended Iowa
State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls, for one year. He
entered the military in 1945, where he served as an aviation
electrician in the U.S. Navy during WW II, until his
honorable discharge in 1946. Ben married Maxine Joyce Dunt
on October 25, 1951 in Cresco. Following their marriage, he
began his career in Law Enforcement, working for the DNR as
a biologist's aide and later a conservation officer in 1952,
assigned to Mitchell and Floyd Counties and living in Osage,
for 12 years. He was promoted to Law Enforcement Supervisor
and transferred to Spencer in August of 1964, where he
continued his career, until his retirement in January of
1989 after nearly 38 years of service. Following his
retirement, he enjoyed working for RIDES for the last 10
years.
He was a member of the
Sacred Hearth Catholic Church in Spencer. Ben was also
active in the American Legion since 1947, where he held
numerous positions. He was very active in the Boy Scouts,
where he held several administrative positions. He had a
lifelong interest in hunting, fishing, aquatic sports and
water safety. Ben served many years as a Red Cross Water
Safety and First Aid instructor, where he developed and
coordinated water safety training programs for enforcement
officers of his department. He also served on the board of
the Iowa Great Lakes Chapter of the American Red Cross,
where he was active for many years. One of his many family
activities was traveling, in the early years tent camping or
canoeing
Left to cherish his memory
are his wife, Maxine of Spencer; one daughter, Deborah Davis
of Ankeny; two sons, Richard Davis and his wife, Julie of
Oakridge, Oregon and Danford Davis and his wife, Shannon of
Minneapolis, Minnesota; his granddogs; a sister, Edith and
her husband, Danford Roberts of Harrison, Arkansas; and
other relatives and many, many friends.
Ben was preceded in death
by his parents; and a half brother, Edward Svoboda.

Hilda L. LaCoste
January 5, 2010
Hilda L. LaCoste, age 92, of Osage, died on Monday, January
4, 2010, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage, due to
complications from Alzheimer's Disease.
Funeral services will be
held at 1:30 p.m., on Friday, January 8, at the Faith
Lutheran Home in Osage, with Rev. Bruce Kaltwasser
officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, rural
Osage. Visitation is from 5-7:00 p.m., on Thursday, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage. In lieu of flowers,
the family requests memorials to the Faith Lutheran Home or
to the Iowa Hospice.
Hilda was born on February
5, 1917 near Osage, Iowa, the daughter of Ferdinand and
Caroline (Troge) Muller. She graduated from the Osage High
School in 1935 and attended Iowa State Teachers College.
From 1937 to 1943, Hilda was a country school teacher. She
married Donald LaCoste on March 18, 1943, at the St. John's
Lutheran Church, southwest of Osage. Hilda was a homemaker
and farmed with Donald five miles north of Floyd, Iowa. In
1994, she moved to Osage.
She was a life long member
of the St. John's Lutheran Church. Hilda enjoyed gardening,
reading, spending time with family and volunteering at
church.
Hilda is survived by her
children, Carolyn Walk of Rochester, Minnesota, John (Velda)
LaCoste of Osage and Donna Hawkinson of Rochester,
Minnesota; six grandchildren, Daren, Jim and Mark Walk,
Jennifer Bauer, Brad LaCoste and Matthew Hawkinson; and 11
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; her husband, Donald; sister, Nina Muller;
brothers, Glenn and Loren Muller; and son-in-law, Duane
Walk.

Caroline Marie
Winter
January 5, 2010
Caroline Marie Winter, age 86, of Osage, died on Monday,
January 4, 2010, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage,
following a short illness.
Funeral services will be
held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, January 9, at the Our
Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, with Rev. Dennis Hanson
and Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty
Township Cemetery at Little Cedar, Iowa. Visitation is from
4-6:00 p.m., on Friday, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home
in Osage. Memorials may be directed to the Our Savior's
Lutheran Church.
Caroline was born on
February 18, 1923 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the daughter of
Jacob and Botilla Winter. She was baptized at the Fredsville
Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fredsville, Iowa. She was
confirmed as an adult by Pastor T.P. Solem at the Our
Savior's Lutheran Church. Caroline was employed by the food
service of the Mitchell County Hospital.
She enjoyed her doll
collection, some of which were her own creation and cake
decorating.
Caroline is survived by
her brother, Pastor Ole (Naomi) Winter of Decorah; two
nephews, Mark (Annette) Winter and Larry (Jane) Winter, both
of Thousand Oaks, California; a niece, Kathy (Jim) Thomsen
of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; four great-nieces; and one
great-nephew.
She was preceded in death
by her parents in 1983; and her nephew, David Michael Winter
in 1999.

Halbach
January 8, 2010
Louise (Palmer) Halbach, age 91, of Osage, died on Thursday,
January 7, 2010, at the Mitchell County Regional Health
Center Hospice Unit in Osage.
A Mass of Christian Burial
will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, January 12, at the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Rev John Moser
officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in
Osage. Visitation is from 4-7:00 p.m., on Monday, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with a rosary at
4:30 p.m. and a scripture wake service at 7:00 p.m.
Louise was born on January
19, 1918, the fourth of six children to Paul Herbert Palmer
and Mary Grace (Egan) Palmer. Her place of birth is stated
as their family farm located northwest of Stacyville, Iowa.
Louise attended the Visitation School in Stacyville and
graduated from high school there. On June 20, 1939, Louise
married Al Halbach. They resided in Stacyville for about 10
years before moving to Osage. Together, they raised a family
of eight children.
Louise is survived by her
eight children, Stan of Denver Colorado, Steve (Nancy) of
Nashua, Eloise (Gary) Kuper of Osage, Jim of Osage, Tony
(Pat) of Osage, Terry Kampman of Cedar Falls, Maureen (Dave)
Salter of Woodville, Wisconsin and Jody (Jim) Johnson of
Osage; 25 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; her sister,
Catherine Blaser of Charles City; sister-in-law, Bertilla
Mullenbach of Rochester, Minnesota; and many nieces and
nephews
She was preceded in death
by husband, Al Halbach on April 3, 1988; parents, Paul and
Mary Palmer; brothers, James Palmer and Paul Palmer;
sisters, Norine Olson Belnap and Mary McGovern; and
daughter-in-law, Eileen Halbach.

Florence Mary
Campbell
January 12, 2010
Harlingen, TEXAS-Florence
Mary Campbell, 84, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and
friend, was called home on Sunday, January 10, 2010.
A celebration of Florence
Campbell's life was held on Wednesday, January 13, at 10:00
a.m., at the Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home in Harlingen, Texas,
with Rev. Stephen Wiest and Rev. Wally Morillo officiating.
She was born on March 8,
1925, to Robert and Esther Wright of Salix, Iowa. She grew
up in Salix, where she learned to love the outdoors, animals
and farming. She graduated from the Salix High School and
attended Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska and Colorado
State Teacher's College in Ft. Collins, Colorado, where she
earned a teaching degree in PE. While in Colorado, she met
George Fleming Campbell, a successful farmer from Eaton,
Colorado. They were married for 62 years. They enjoyed
farming together for many years in Eaton, Osage, Iowa and
Salix, Iowa, before retiring in 1992 to Harlingen, Texas.
Florence was preceded in
death by her parents.
She is survived by her
husband, George Campbell of the home; her two daughters and
their husbands, Sue and Bill Daily of Mishawaka, Indiana and
Cindy and Roland Weber of Springdale, Arkansas; her six
grandchildren and their spouses, Jennifer and Josh Johnson
of Indiana, John and Katy Cobb of Ohio, Beth and Daniel
Aguirre of Indiana, Steven and Mariah Weber of North
Carolina, Scott and Heide Weber of Hawaii and Robert Weber
of Arkansas; her great-grandchildren, Lily, Timothy and
William Johnson and Braden and Brooke Weber; sister
and her husband, Dorothy and Al Boysen of Wapello, Iowa and
their children, Rob Boysen and Karen Rowe; and many cousins
and numerous friends she picked up along the "road of life."
She was lovingly cared for
during the last years of her life by Nora Zavala and others
for whom the family is deeply grateful.

James A. Shaw, age 84, of Riceville, Iowa, died on Friday,
January 22, 2010, at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in
Madison, Wisconsin.
Funeral services will be
held on Friday, January 29, at 10:30 a.m., at the St.
Peter's Lutheran Church in Riceville, with Pastor Michael
Parris officiating. Burial will be in the St. Peter's
Lutheran Cemetery in Riceville. Friends may call on
Thursday, January 28, from 4-7:00 p.m., at the Lindstrom
Funeral Home in Riceville and also one hour prior to the
services at the church.

Julia B. Hoover
January 27, 2010
Julia Bertha Hoover, age 91, of Osage and formerly of
Moline, Illinois, died on Monday, January 25, 2010, at the
Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.
A Mass of Christian Burial
will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, January 30, at the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Rev. John Moser
officiating. Inurnment will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery in
East Moline, Illinois. Visitation is from 9:30 to 10:30
a.m., on Saturday, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Julia was born on April
11, 1918 in London, Minnesota, the daughter of Camiel and
Erma (Verbeke) Hommez. She grew up in Stacyville and moved
to Moline, Illinois in 1940. Julia was employed by the Eagle
Signal Company. On September 29, 1951, she married George
Hoover at Moline. She retired from the Eagle Signal Company
in 1980 after 37 years of employment. Julia moved to the
Evergreen Apartments in Osage in May of 2004.
She enjoyed dancing,
traveling, bowling, playing cards and bingo, spending time
with family and especially loved young children.
Julia is survived by two
brothers, Louis Hommez of Osage and Francis (Inez) Hommez of
Osage; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; her husband, George Hoover in 1977; one
brother, Joe; and three sisters, Bertha, Lena and Mary.

Debby Marie Wahl
January 27, 2010
Northwood-Debby Marie Wahl, 55, of Northwood, died on
Monday, January 25, 2010, at her home in rural Northwood.
Funeral services will be
held at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, January 29, at the First
Lutheran Church, Northwood, with Reverend Daniel R. Hart
officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in
Northwood. Visitation will be from 4-8:00 p.m., on Thursday,
at the Conner Colonial Chapel, Northwood. Visitation will
also be held one hour prior to the service time on Friday at
the church.
Debby Marie Wahl, was born
on October 30, 1954 in Albert Lea, Minnesota, the daughter
of Dewayne and Mavis (Hillman) Roppe. Deb was baptized and
reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation at
the First Lutheran Church in Northwood. Deb attended the
Northwood-Kensett Community Schools, graduating from the
Northwood-Kensett High School in 1973. Deb also graduated
from the Iowa School of Beauty in Mason City in 1989.
Deb was united in marriage
to Claire Wahl on April 7, 1973, at the First Lutheran
Church in Northwood and to this union three children were
born, Rusty, Ryan and Robby. After their marriage, Deb
started her own beauty salon, called the D.W. Originals in
Northwood in 1990 and in 1996, moved her salon business to
her home in rural Northwood.
Deb enjoyed flowers, going
to and participating in tractor pulls, being a hostess to
many fashion shows, having her own 4th of July parade float
in Northwood with her grandchildren and singing at many
weddings and funerals, and also her and Claire enjoyed
getting together with her many friends in Mason City, and
going to nursing homes singing to the residence, but her
great love and enjoyment was her family, grandchildren and
her many friends.
Those left to cherish her
memory are her husband, Claire Wahl of Northwood; her
children, Rusty (Jennifer) Wahl of Northwood, Ryan
(Jennifer) Wahl of St. Ansgar and Robby Wahl of Northwood;
six grandchildren, Sydney Harris, Nicole Wahl, Abigail Wahl,
Cody Wahl, Reese Wahl and Emersyn Wahl; her father, Dewayne
Roppe of Northwood; her sisters, Julie (Dennis) Gore of
Albert Lea, Minnesota, Bonnie (Charles) Hengesteg of
Northwood, Mary Willand and special friend, Mike Davey of
Northwood and Amy (Daryl) Hennigar of Northwood; a sister-in
law, Jeanette (Larry) Berge of Northwood; and
brothers-in-law, Russell (Jan) Wahl of Sausalito, California
and Charles Henderson of Lake Mills; many aunts, uncles,
nieces, nephews and many other extended family members and
friends.
Deb was preceded in death
by her mother, Mavis Roppe on January 15, 2009; a
sister-in-law, Corliss Henderson; and her father and
mother-in-law, Ray and Fern Wahl.

Lucille C. Jones
February 1, 2010
Lucille C. Jones, age 100, of Osage, died on Wednesday,
January, 27, 2010, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.
Funeral services were held
at 2:30 p.m., on Saturday, January 30, at the Faith Lutheran
Home in Osage, with Rev. John Bates officiating. Burial was
in the Osage Cemetery.
Lucille was born on
November 5, 1909 in Eyota, Minnesota, the daughter of Herman
and Charlotte (Moehnke) Urban. She was married to Milford
Jones on December 5, 1929 at Cartersville, Iowa. She was a
homemaker and farmed with Milford. They lived in the
Sheffield area before moving to a farm north of Rudd in
1941, where they lived until 1979. They moved to Osage due
to Milford's poor health.
Lucille was a member of
the Eden Presbyterian Church north of Rudd. She will be
remembered for her cookie baking, chocolate cake (made from
scratch) and her special meatloaf.
Lucille is survived by her
three children, Wayne (Carol) Jones of Rudd, Charlotte
(Jerry) Meitner of St. Ansgar and Beverly (Bill) Moss of
Floyd; six grandchildren, LeRoy Jones, Loras (Andy) Aird,
Leland (Barb) Meitner, Kenneth (Julie) Meitner, Diann
(Darwin) Tabbert and Barry Moss; eleven great-grandchildren;
two great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and friends.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; her husband, Milford; brothers, Leon Urban
and Myron Urban; sister, Lillian Lahmers; grandson, Kevin
Jones; and great-grandson, Kris Jones.

Edith "Eda" Rieken
February 2, 2010
Edith B. Rieken, age 102, of Riceville, died on Sunday,
January 31, 2010, at the Riceville Family Care & Therapy
Center in Riceville, Iowa.
Funeral services will be
held on Friday, February 5, at 10:30 a.m., at the St.
Peter's Lutheran Church in Riceville, with Pastor Michael
Parris officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery
in Riceville. Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home
on Thursday, during the hours of 5-7:00 p.m. and one hour
prior to the services at the church.

Donald W. Peck
February 8, 2010
Donald W. Peck, 78, of
Prior Lake, Minnesota and formerly of Austin, died on
Sunday, January 31, 2010, at the Friendship Manor in
Shakopee, Minnesota, of complications related to surgery. He
had resided there since January 6, 2010.
Funeral services were held
at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, February 5, at the St. Olaf
Lutheran Church, with the Reverend Ron Barnett officiating.
The Austin Post #91 American Legion was in charge of the
Military Rites. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery at
a later date. The family prefers memorials to the donors
choice.
Donald was born on October
3, 1931 in Lansing, Minnesota, the oldest child of John K.
and Elnora (Blowers) Peck. He grew up in Austin where he
attended school and graduated from the Austin High School in
1949. Shortly after graduation he enlisted in the US Army
and served in the radio corps in Japan during the Korean
Conflict. In 1954, Don began his work as a station
agent/operator with the Milwaukee Railroad. He became a rail
traffic controller in 1962 and worked as such in Austin,
Minneapolis, St. Paul and Milwaukee, until his retirement in
1994 while living in Milwaukee.
On April 30, 1955 Don was
married to Rose M. Gilbertson at the St. Olaf Lutheran
Church in Austin.
During his years in Austin
Don became involved in the drum corps playing with the
American Legion Drum Corps until it folded. In 1960, he
became the director of the American Legion Junior Drum
Corps, later known as the Spamtown Lancers, and remained the
director until 1963 when he moved his family to Milwaukee.
In 1968, after returning to Austin, he assisted with the
Osage Precisionnaires Drum Corps for a short time. He
continued enjoying attending drum corps contests up until
his death.
Donald loved activities
with his family, enjoying many fishing and skiing trips and
golfing with them. He was always teasing with the
grandchildren which they all enjoyed.
Donald was preceded in
death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife
of 54 years, Rose Peck of Prior Lake, Minnesota; sons and
daughters-in-law, Douglas and Carrie Peck of Altoona, Iowa,
Randall Peck of Rochester, Minnesota and Richard and Lori
Peck of East Bethel, Minnesota; daughters and sons-in-law,
Donnelle and Russell Sampson of Prior Lake, Minnesota,
Rhonda and R. Piers Maunder of French's Forest, NSW,
Australia; 10 grandchildren, Janelle (Travis) Finton,
Jonathan (Emily) Peck, Michael (Andrea) Peck, Matthew Peck,
Chelsea Frieden, Ashley Peck, Sophia Sampson, Sarah Peck,
Courtney Peck and Stephanie Peck; 12 great-grandchildren;
brother and sister-in-law, John A. and Madelyn Peck of
Yorktown, Virginia; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and
Donald Hummel of Austin, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Charlie
Gilbertson of Austin, Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Claire
Haberkorn of Ft. Collins, Colorado and Sonja (Harlan) Sayler
of Larimore, North Dakota; and nieces, nephews and many
friends.
