Gilbert F. "Smiley"
Copper, 86, of Fort Dodge, died on Wednesday, June 2, 2010,
at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services were held
at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, June 5, at the Gunderson Funeral
Chapel in Fort Dodge. A Mass of the Christian Burial
followed at 10:30 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Church in Fort
Dodge. Interment was in the Corpus Christi Cemetery, Fort
Dodge, with military honors provided by the V.F.W. Post No.
1856. The visitation was from 5-7:00 p.m., on Friday, at the
Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. There was a
vigil service beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Gunderson
Funeral Home.
Gilbert is survived by
many loving family members. He served in the U.S. Army
during World War II and his career was teaching science and
mathematics to students.

Darvin H. Kettwick
June 8, 2010
Buffalo Center, Iowa-Darvin
H. Kettwick, age 54, of Buffalo Center, Iowa, passed away at
the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona, Iowa on
Thursday, June 3, 2010, after a valiant battle with cancer.
Memorial services were
held on Tuesday, June 8, at the First Reformed Church in
Buffalo Center, at 10:30 a.m., with Reverend Bill Peake
officiating. According to his wishes, his body was cremated
with inurnment in the Graceland Cemetery.
Darvin
Harold Kettwick, the son of Harold and Deloris (Dontje)
Kettwick, was born in Buffalo Center on August 27, 1955. He
was baptized and confirmed at the First Reformed Church in
Buffalo Center. Darv graduated from the Buffalo Center High
School in 1973. He attended Iowa State University and then
went on to work at Kleinwort's Hog Farm prior to farming for
28 years with his dad, brother Mike, and cousin Bryan
Wessels until his death.
On August 30, 1997, Darvin
was united in marriage to Robin (Kramme) Howell, daughter of
Edward and Judy Kramme of Osage, at the First Reformed
Church. Chris and Abby, Robin's children, were a major part
of this newly formed family.
Darv
was actively involved with things that were important to
him. He was a member of the First Reformed Church and served
on the consistory as an elder and deacon. He was also a
choir member and Sunday School teacher. The Winnebago County
Fair was a special tradition. He was a long-time fair board
member, beef barn superintendent and served eight years as
president. Darvin was a life-time alumni member of the Bison
FFA. Judging crop shows, proficiency awards and speaking
contests at the local to state levels gave him a great deal
of joy and satisfaction. As recently as May 18th he and
Bryan tilled and planted the FFA plot.
Darv
believed in being practical, comfortable and close to home.
He valued a quality work ethic, traditions, honest opinions
and the concept of "tough love" to help children be the best
they could be.
Special moments in his
young life included FFA livestock judging, crop shows and
awards including earning the Iowa Farmer Degree. He enjoyed
showing livestock at the county and state levels and was
proud of winning the Grand Champion Chester White Female in
the open class competition at the Iowa State Fair. His
selection for first-team all conference in football was
valued. He enjoyed his collection of pigs and FFA semis.
Playing slow-pitch softball, watching the Kentucky Derby,
helping at Crazy Days, mixing batter at Pancake Day and
making the world's best caramel popcorn at Christmas were
important to him.
He is survived by his
wife, Robin of Buffalo Center; children, Chris Howell of
Clear Lake and Abby Howell of Mason City; mother, Deloris
Kettwick of Buffalo Center; his sister and brothers, Madonna
Kettwick of Waukon, Michael (Carole) Kettwick of Buffalo
Center, Wayne (Tracy) Kettwick of DeWitt and David (Renee)
Kettwick of Clarinda; and by nieces, nephews and the rest of
Robin's family.
Darvin
was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father,
Harold; and his nephew, Tyler.

James Clair Copper
June 8, 2010
James Clair Copper, died
on Thursday, June 3, 2010, following a long courageous
battle with cancer.
Funeral services were held
at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel
of Memories. Burial was in the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in
his memory to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Mercy Hospice
House in Hiawatha.
James was born on June 23,
1925 in Osage, the son of Edwin and Catherine (Roth) Copper.
He married Ruth Beck in 1946 and they were married for 24
years. He married Loretta (Hoppe) Lawrence on June 24, 1972.
James founded Copper Construction Company in 1950 and this
was his 60th year in business, during which time he was a
home builder, realtor and broker of his company, Copper
Realty Inc. He developed the majority of single family lots
in south Marion and most recently he was a partner in the
development of the Navajo Addition in SW Cedar Rapids.
James was a member of the
Cedar Rapids Area Association of Realtors of 26 years, the
National Association of Realtors and a member of the Greater
Area of Cedar Rapids Home Builders Association.
James had a heart warming
smile and manner for all those he met. He was fondly called
"Dad" by many close friends and family members. He was a
loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and
great-grandfather. He was a quiet man who personified
dignity and grace and will be missed by his family and
friends.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; his wife, Ruth; an infant son, Clair James;
and brothers, Robert and Gilbert.
James is survived by his
wife, Loretta; his daughter, Janell Reinhart of Marion;
step-son, Tad Lawrence of Marion; grandson, Jason Reinhart
of Phoenix, Arizona; granddaughter, Heather (Jason) Walker
of Independence, Missouri; grandson, Jayk Lawrence of Marion
and granddaughter, Adda Lawrence of Cedar Rapids;
great-grandchildren include Layla and Roman Walker of
Independence, Missouri and Kurtis Lawrence of Cedar Rapids;
and two brothers, Jerald (Beverly) Copper of Charles City
and Edwin (Donna) Copper of Nashua.

Joanne C. Heimer

Joanne Catherine Heimer,
73, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away
surrounded by her husband and daughters, on Saturday, June
5, 2010, at the Adams Health Care Center after a lung battle
with lung cancer.
A Mass of Christian Burial
will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, June 9, at the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams, with Father James
Steffes officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart
Cemetery. There will be a 6:00 p.m. rosary service on
Tuesday, at the Adams Funeral Home, where friends may call
from 4-8:00 p.m. and at the Adams Funeral Home on Wednesday
morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Joanne was born on April
11, 1937 in Osage, Iowa, the daughter of Irene Blaser.
Joanne was married to Eugene "Shorty" Heimer on January 8,
1957 at the St. John's Catholic Church in Johnsburg,
Minnesota. Joanne and Shorty made their home in Adams,
Minnesota, where they raised their five daughters. She was a
homemaker and later worked at the local grocery store and as
a school cook for the Southland Schools.
Joanne will be dearly
missed by her husband, Eugene "Shorty" Heimer of Adams;
daughters and sons-in-law, Dawn and Bob Gilles of Rose
Creek, Minnesota, Lori and Jeff Schammel of Owatonna,
Minnesota, Connie and Lyle Hoff of Adams, Minnesota, Joni
and Al DeMaris of St. Ansgar and Jean and Jon Koster of St.
Ansgar; thirteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren;
brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenny and Sandy Jax of Apple
Valley, Minnesota, Bob and Joann Jax of Mayer, Minnesota,
Dave and Nancy Jax of Bloomington, Minnesota, John and Cindy
Jax of Adams, Minnesota and Chuck and Charlene Jax of
Bloomington, Minnesota; and nieces and nephews.

Donald J. King
June 16, 2010
Donald J. King, age 79, of
New Hampton, Iowa, died on Sunday, June 6, 2010, at his
home.
Funeral services were held
at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, June 10, at the Holy Family
Parish-St. Joseph Center, New Hampton, with Deacon Vic
DeSloover officiating. Full military honors were conducted
by the New Hampton VFW and "Amazing Grace" was played on the
bagpipe. Pallbearers were his sons, David King, Mick King,
Darryl King, Harold King, Ronald King and son-in-law, Craig
Roalfs. A private inurnment will be held in the Calvary
Cemetery in New Hampton at a later date.
Donald Joseph King, was
born on October 9, 1930 in Lawler, Iowa, the son of Thomas
and Agnes (Malloy) King. He received his high school diploma
from the Lawler High School. On September 15, 1952, Don was
united in marriage to Bertha Moellers at the Our Lady of
Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Festina, Iowa. To this union
eleven children were born. After his wife's death, he was
united in marriage to Myrna Kingsley in 1984.
Don was on the
construction crew building Sara Lee and then began working
for Sara Lee when it opened in 1972 and worked until
retirement in the late 1990's. He was currently employed by
the Five Star Co-op in Lawler. Don enjoyed working in his
garden, and going fishing.
Survivors include five
sons, David (Peggy Rohash) King of Traer, Harold (Mary) King
of Fredericksburg, Ronald (Deanna) King of Loves Park,
Illinois, Darryl (Gina) King of Columbus Junction and
Michael (Lisa) King of Oskaloosa; five daughters, Diane
(Craig) Roalfs of Osage, Deborah (Bernard) Dickman of Great
Falls, Montana, Paula (Lawerence) Taylor of West Palm Beach,
Florida, Dona King of Anchorage, Alaska and Lori King of
Osage.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; his wife, Bertha; and a son, Donald T. King.

Earl A. Ahrens
June 8, 2010
Earl A. Ahrens, age 98, of
Osage, died on Monday, June 7, 2010, at the Mitchell County
Regional Health Center in Osage.
Funeral services will be
held at 1:30 p.m., on Thursday, June 10, at the Trinity
Lutheran Church in Osage, with Rev. Bruce Kaltwasser
officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, rural
Osage. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at
the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
Earl was born on January
26, 1912 in Osage, the son of Richard and Alma (Frese)
Ahrens. He graduated from the Osage High School. In 1948,
Earl built the Starlight Roller Rink in Osage and operated
it until the mid 1960's.
He was a member of the
Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage. Earl enjoyed roller
skating, fishing and gardening.
Earl is survived by three
nephews, Richard (Rosella) Krahn of Osage, Gene (Katrina)
Krahn of Mitchell and Ronald (Suzanne) Krahn of Osage; a
niece, Myrna Hoisington of Orchard; and 10 great-nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; sister, Alda (Ahrens) Krahn; and an infant
sister, Erna Marie Ahrens.

Duane Mullenbach
June 16, 2010
St. Ansgar-Duane "Snorkie"
Mullenbach, 69, of St. Ansgar, passed away peacefully on
Friday, June 11, 2010, at the Mitchell County Regional
Health Center, Osage, in the presence of his family and
loved ones after succumbing to a battle with cancer.
A Mass of Christian Burial
was celebrated on Tuesday, June 15, at the Queen of Peace
Catholic Church in Lyle, Minnesota, at 10:30 a.m. Burial was
in the St. Ansgar Cemetery, St. Ansgar.
Born in rural Adams,
Minnesota in 1940, Snorkie moved to St. Ansgar, with his new
bride, Maggie in 1963. He dedicated 40 years of service to
the community as a local volunteer fireman and 18 years as
Fire Chief. Snorkie sold his welding business in 2006 to
spend time enjoying friends and family, gardening and
watching Minnesota Twins baseball.
Snorkie
was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lynn; his
parents, Ernie and Leona Mullenbach; and mother and
father-in-law, Loretta and Leo Eversman.
Snorkie
is survived by his wife, Maggie; his children, Dan (Barb)
Mullenbach of Urbandale, Darrell (Jeanne) Mullenbach of
Urbandale, Sue (Jon) Henaman of St. Ansgar and Elaine (Jym)
Hansen of St. Ansgar; 11 grandchildren; and two sisters,
Lorraine (Aaron) Mandler of Adams, Minnesota and Veronica
Juenger of Stacyville.
The family would like to
express their gratitude to all those who have worked and
celebrated life with Snorkie over the years.

Floyd Gordon Momberg
June 23, 2010
Floyd G. Momberg, passed away peacefully surrounded by family,
on Friday, June 11, 2010.
Memorial services, with military rights
at the graveside by the Osage American Legion post 278, will
commence at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, September 4, 2010, at Orchard, Iowa.
Floyd was born in Charles City, Iowa on December 14,
1929, the son of Hilbert Momberg and Mildred (Peper). With
his mothers permission Floyd enlisted in the Army at age 17.
He enjoyed a distinguished army career participating in a
variety of assignments. His 7-year Army career included
paratrooper/rifle squad leader with the 187th Airborne
Infantry Division. He completed dozens of "jumps" including
two behind enemy lines during the Korean War. He received
two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star Medal. He was
honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant First Class in
1954.
Floyd married Joanna Crawford
of Orchard, Iowa in Pomona, California
in 1958. For 20 years Floyd loved his job and people at the
neighborhood store (Market Spot) in Pomona. After retirement
from the grocery business he owned and operated Hilton
Financial for 10 years.
First and foremost Floyd was a
devoted family man and leader, first to his mother and
siblings and then his wife and children. He loved fishing
the rivers of his childhood in Iowa. He was an avid reader
and lifelong learner. Floyd led his family by example
preferring this to lengthy dialogue.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Joanna;
four children, Mark
(Lisa), Michele (Robin) Balsimo, Mike (Mari), Matt (Lisa);
and 7 grandchildren.
All who knew him will surely miss
Floyd.

Lawrence Joseph Pint, age
68, of Osage, died on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at the St.
Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial
will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, June 19, 2010, at
the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Rev. John
Moser officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart
Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8:00 p.m., on Friday, at
the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with a scripture
wake service at 7:00 p.m.
Larry was born on November
5, 1941 in Osage, the son of John A. and Edna (Cockrum)
Pint. He attended the Mitchell School and graduated from the
Osage Community High School in 1960. Larry was united in
marriage to Bonnie Lee Ballard on April 16, 1966 at the
Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City. Larry worked
at Oliver, Osage Motor Supply and Tops Business Forms.
He enjoyed Nascar and
stock car racing, car shows, golf, gardening, touring car
lots, tinkering in the garage, rebuilding minibikes and
spending time with family and friends.
Larry is survived by his
wife, Bonnie Pint of Osage; his daughter, Joan (Tony) Brucha
of Denver, Colorado; his son, Steve (Theresa) Pint of
Marion; and was Best Papa to grandchildren, Erin and Adam
Pint; his sister, Barbara (Noel) Omlar of Melbourne,
Florida; his brothers, John D. (Barbara) Pint of Mitchell,
Fred Pint of Garland, Texas and Ron (Connie) Pint of Osage.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; and infant sister, Irma Jean Pint.
The family would like to
express their gratitude to all those who have been
supportive during the past year. In lieu of flowers,
memorials will be directed in Larry's name to the Patient
Advocate Foundation, Hampton, Virginia, for support with
co-pay and/or coinsurance payments related to cancer

Merlyn Chester
Counsell
June 16, 2010
Merlyn Chester Counsell,
of Berkeley, California, died on Tuesday, November 24, 2009,
at the age of 89.
Graveside inurnment
services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, June 21,
2010, at the Osage Cemetery, with Rev. Wendy Abrahamson
officiating. Following services, there will be time for
refreshments and to greet the family at the Osage V.F.W.
Club in Osage. In lieu of flowers, memorials maybe given to
the Osage VFW Post 7920, Osage, Iowa.
Merlyn was born on October
10, 1920 in Osage, Iowa, son of Harry and Edna Counsell. The
family lived many years on the four mile corner east of
town. He graduated with the Osage High School Class of 1938.
An Army veteran of WW II, he served with distinction in the
Pacific Theater receiving several awards, including two
Bronze Stars. He was a proud lifetime member of the Osage
VFW Post 7920. He graduated from UC Berkeley in August, 1949
and married Barbara Anne Nicholas on September 2, 1949. They
made their home in Berkeley, California, where they reared
their three children, Frederick, Melissa and Stuart. Until
recent years, Merlyn made annual visits to Osage with his
family and then his wife.
Preceding him in death
were his parents; and brother, Gene.
Merlyn is survived by his
wife of 60 years, Barbara (Nicky); sons, Fred and Stuart;
daughter, Melissa; five grandchildren; and two brothers,
Kenneth and Virgil.

John Wade Lee
June 23, 2010
John Wade
Lee, age 65, of Osage, died on Friday, June 18, 2010, at the
Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.
A Memorial
Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, June 24, at the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Rev. John Moser
officiating. Inurnment will be in the Osage Cemetery.
Following services, there will be a time for lunch and
fellowship at the K.C. Hall in Osage, with the family
remaining at the K.C. Hall until 5:30 p.m. to greet
relatives and friends.
John was born on January 10, 1945 at Fort Warren in
Cheyenne, Wyoming, the son of Robert and Cleo (Weber) Lee.
The family returned to Osage in 1946, where John lived his
entire life. He graduated from the Osage High School in 1963.
John married Theresa Crain on May 29, 1965, at the Sacred Heart
Catholic Church in Osage. He was employed at White Farm,
Mitchell County Road Maintenance and retired from Curries
Manufacturing.
John enjoyed NASCAR, following his children
and grandchildren in their school and sports activities and
having a cup of coffee with friends at Casey's.
John is survived by his wife, Terri Lee of Osage; his
son, Michael (Melinda) Lee of Osage; his daughter, Corinne
(Dan) Walker of Maplewood, Minnesota; six grandchildren,
Joshua, Johnathan, Nicholas and Alyssa Lee, Ezekiel and
Quinn Walker; and three brothers, Richard (Val) Lee of
Stillwater, Minnesota, Robert (Kathy) Lee of Boiling
Springs, Pennsylvania and Scott (Christi) Lee of Hugo,
Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother,
Barry Lee; and one niece, Candace Lee.

Evan Dale Johnston
June 23, 2010
Evan
Dale Johnston, age 57, of Osage, died on Friday, June 18, 2010,
at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center Hospice Unit
in Osage, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services
will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, June 23, at the
United Church of Christ in Osage, with Pastor Ruth Moerdyk
officiating. There will be Peace Officer Honors by the Motor
Vehicle Enforcement Honor Guard. Visitation will be from
5-8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral
Home in Osage.
Evan was born on November 18, 1952 in Mount Ayr, Iowa, the
son of Ronald and Bonnie (Cowell) Johnston. He graduated
from the Davis County High School in 1971 and from Indian Hills
Community College in Centerville in 1973. On December 1,
1973, he married Rita Scott at the Little Brown Church in
Nashua. They lived and worked in the Iowa City area and
moved to Osage in 1978. Evan worked as a Motor Vehicle
Enforcement Officer for the Iowa DOT, retiring in 2009.
He
was an active member of the United Church of Christ, where he
ushered, served on the worship team and assisted in many
other areas of the church. He enjoyed his family and
spending time with his grandson. Evan also enjoyed his work,
traveling, fishing, music and playing the guitar, going with
youth on church mission trips and was an avid Minnesota
Vikings fan.
Evan is survived by his wife, Rita Johnston of Osage;
three daughters, Veronica (Jason) Baldwin and their son,
Christopher "Topher" of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Amanda
Johnston of Osage and Alana Johnston of Osage; his parents,
Ronald and Bonnie Johnston of Osage; and one brother, Alvin
Johnston of Waukon.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Brian P. Hart

Brian Paul
Hart, 59, of Montgomery, Texas, passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2010, after a
two year battle with cancer.
Funeral services were held
on
Thursday, June 24, at 2:00 p.m., at the St. Mary's Catholic Church,
Plantersville, Texas. Arrangements entrusted into the care
of the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home of Montgomery, Texas.
Brian was born on January 29, 1951 in Osage, Iowa. Brian and
wife, Ellen were married on June 5, 1971 in New Haven, Iowa. Brian graduated with a BA
Degree in Education from the
University of Northern Iowa in 1973. He worked for the Hawkeye
Security Insurance Company until 1986, where he earned his IIA and CPCU insurance designations. He and his wife, Ellen
started the Business and Banking Institute with locations in
both Des Moines and Omaha. In 1997, he began working with a
Dallas based firm, Generational Equity, and was currently
employed at the time of his death.
Brian is survived by his wife, Ellen (Miller); daughter, Lendie Provenza and husband, Angelo of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; son,
Gregory Hart and wife, Jennifer of Austin, Texas; 5
grandchildren, Michael, Tony, Sophia Provenza, Andrew and
Luke Hart; along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Kenneth M. Goplerud
June 23, 2010
Kenneth Milford Goplerud, retired Mitchell County farmer,
went to his heavenly home on Monday, June 21, 2010, at age 91, at
the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church,
Carpenter, Iowa, on Saturday, June 26, at 2:00 p.m., with
Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00
p.m., at
the church. Burial will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery
following lunch at the church.
Kenneth was born on March 5, 1919 and grew up on the Goplerud farm south of Otranto, Iowa.
He attended and
graduated from the Otranto School in 1936. After graduation he
joined his father in the farming operation, raising cabbage,
potatoes, row crops and livestock. Kenneth enjoyed farming
with the work horses and could still remember all of their
names.
Kenneth enjoyed antique auctions, fishing, music and
singing. His family treasures his hand carved Santa's,
Norwegian horses and fish decoys. The grandchildren and
great-grandchildren fondly remember Grandpa's stories, the
birthday parades and his wonderful sense of humor.
Grandpa loved and was very proud of all of them.
Kenneth was
a life-long member of the Lutheran Church, was proud to be
called a Norwegian, strived to be a good farmer and had a
preference for John Deere equipment. Kenneth served on the
Otranto School Board, the Deer Creek Church Counsel and was
active in the community.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Christopher
G. Goplerud and Theodora B. Goplerud; his first wife and
mother of his children, Marian (Voit) Goplerud; sister, Elfrieda Uzlik; grandson, Mark Steiert; and step-son, Michael Schorr.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Beatrice
"Betty" Goplerud
of Osage; his daughter, Linda (Jackson) Steiert of Osage; his sons, David (Judy) of St. Ansgar
and John

Melvin J. Popp

Melvin J.
Popp, age 77, of Osage, passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2010,
at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center Emergency Room
in Osage.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m.,
on
Friday, June 25, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in
Osage, with Rev. John Moser, Msgr. John Hemann and Msgr.
Joseph Slepicka officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred
Heart Cemetery, with military honors at the grave by the Osage
American Legion Post 278 and Osage V.F.W. Post 7920.
Visitation will be held from 4-8:00 p.m., on Thursday, at
the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with a Knights of
Columbus Rosary at 4:30 p.m.
Mel was born in rural Mitchell County on June 12, 1933,
to John and Frances (Falk) Popp. He attended rural school
and graduated from the Osage High School in 1951. Mel served in
the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On July 5, 1958,
he married Dorothy Fox at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in
Osage. Mel farmed and operated Popp Backhoe and Trenching
until his retirement.
He looked forward to his annual
Canadian fishing trips and spending time with his family.
Mel was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage,
the Knights of Columbus, Osage American Legion and the Osage V.F.W. He was also a Rock Township
Trustee and was Chairman
of the Osage Rural Fire Board.
Mel is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his daughter, Deb
and her sons, Brad and Dan Evans; his son, Dennis (Kim) and
their sons, Adam, Joe and Ben and his son, Dan (Jill) and their
children, Jared, Jadie, Josie and Jace; his daughter, Diane
and her children, Katie, Jim and Jenna Plotzke and his
daughter, Donna (Brian) Bruesewitz and their children,
Maddie and Melanie, all of Osage.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother,
Don.

Peggy Joe (Schwab)
Harris
July 7, 2010
Peggy Jo (Schwab) Harris, 58, of Cedar Falls, died on
Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in
Waterloo.
Memorial services will be
held at 3:00 p.m., on Thursday, July 8, at the Dahl-Van
Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, Cedar Falls. Visitation will be
for two hours prior to the service time at the funeral home.
Peggy was born on October
7, 1951 at Osage, Iowa, the daughter of John and Hyllis (Krogstad)
Schwab. She graduated from the Osage High School, Upper Iowa
University and received her Masters Degree from Viterbo
University in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Peggy was a teacher at
the East Waterloo High School for many years.
Survivors include two
sons, Marc Coonradt of Concord, North Carolina and Tim
(Mandy) Coonradt of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren,
McKenna, Kylie, Colby, Noah and Colin Coonradt; and two
sisters, Dell (Steve) Abben of Osage and Karen (Terry) Moore
of Winona, Minnesota.
Peggy was preceded in
death by her parents; and her husband.
Memorials may be directed
to Cedar Valley Hospice or to the family for brain cancer
research.

Landon James Lohuis
July 7, 2010
Landon James Lohuis,
infant son of Jim and Jen Lohuis went to heaven on Tuesday,
June 29, 2010.
Funeral services were held
at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, July 2, at the Sacred Heart
Oratory, Meyer, with Father John A. Moser officiating.
Interment was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in
Meyer. Visitation was one hour before the services at the
church.
Landon is survived by his
parents, Jim and Jen Lohuis of McIntire; his sister, Ruby
Lohuis; grandparents, Bob and Suzanne Lohuis of McIntire,
Diane and Denny Winfield of Leroy, Minnesota, Bruce and
Elizabeth Dennis of Janesville, Wisconsin; and many aunts,
uncles and cousins.
When God calls little
children to dwell with Him above, we mortals sometime
question the wisdom of His love. So when a little baby
departs, we who are left behind must realize God loves
children, Angels are hard to find.
The Adams Funeral Home was
in charge of the arrangements.

Viola Rachut Ehlke
July 7, 2010
Viola Ida Rachut Ehlke, age 87, of Osage, died on Wednesday,
June 30, 2010, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center
in Osage.
Funeral services were held
at 1:30 p.m., on Tuesday, July 6, at the Our Savior's
Lutheran Church in Osage, with Rev. Roy Ott officiating.
Burial was in the St. Ansgar Cemetery in St. Ansgar.
Visitation was from 5-8:00 p.m., on Monday, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
Viola was born on December
19, 1922 in Rock Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, the
daughter of Edward Rachut and Ida (Duenow) Ruehlow Rachut.
She was baptized into the Lutheran faith on January 14, 1923
and was confirmed at the St. John's Lutheran Church, Rock
Township on March 21, 1937. Viola attended the Rock Township
Grade School through the 8th grade and graduated from the
St. Ansgar High School in 1941. She married August John
Ehlke on June 24, 1945, at the St. John's Lutheran Church,
Rock Township. They farmed north of St. Ansgar until 1962,
when they moved to a farm west of Osage, farming there until
retiring in 1982.
Viola was a member of the
Our Savior's Lutheran Church and of the Martha Circle. She
was also a member of the Sunshine Circle. Viola enjoyed
going to the Osage Senior Center and Hardee's for dinner,
one day bus trips, rummage sales and embroidery.
Viola is survived by two
daughters, Joanne (Gary) Hyland of Orchard and Carolyn
(Phil) Tommeraas of Zumbro Falls, Minnesota; a grandson,
Jason (Tricia) Hyland; a great-grandson, Cole Hyland; and
her special friend, Helen Duck of Osage.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; her husband in August 1997; and four
half-brothers, Alvin, Harvey and Roy Rachut and Walter
Ruehlow.
