Leon "Charlie" Heimer

July 7, 2010

STACYVILLE, IOWA-Leon "Charlie" Heimer, 74, of Stacyville, died on Friday, July 2, 2010, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage, Iowa, being a resident of the Stacyville Community Nursing Home for five months prior to his death.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 7, at 11:00 a.m., at the Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, with Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be in the Visitation Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 4-8:00 p.m., with a rosary at 7:00 p.m., at the Visitation Catholic Church. The Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar is in charge of the arrangements.

Charlie was born on January 23, 1936, to Arthur and Martha (Mayer) Heimer in Stacyville, Iowa. He was a lifelong resident of Stacyville and member of the Visitation Catholic Church. He attended the Visitation Grade School through the eighth grade and was proud to obtain his GED later in life. In 1963, he became owner/operator of Charlie's Co-op Service. His retirement after 43 years, in April of 2006, also brought a closing to the "Pepsi-break" gathering for local farmers at his office.

One of Charlie's greatest past times was the sponsorship of various sporting teams, especially the infamous Charlie's Angels and Charlie's Devils softball teams. He also enjoyed his frequent trips to Las Vegas or the Iowa casinos. After his retirement a cribbage board and a deck of cards sere always in reach, waiting for a willing opponent.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Irene Thome; and brothers, Wilmer "Buddy", Ralph and LaVerne Heimer.

Charlie is survived by an uncle, Jerome (Joanie) Heimer; aunts, Marie Petermen and Angie Ginder; nephews, Bob (Sheri) Thome, Ken (Jan) Thome, Don (Eleonore) Thome, Doug (Jeanie) Heimer and Dave (Michelle) Heimer; nieces, Betty (Roger) Blake, Pat Adams and Deb (Dan) Lange; and numerous other relatives and his card playing buddies.

Memorials may be given to the Visitation's "Access To The Future" Handicap Accessibility Project or directed to the family.

Joseph "Joe" Martykan

July 7, 2010

Joseph "Joe" Martykan, age 92, of Osage, died on Saturday, July 3, 2010, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center Hospice Unit in Osage.

According to Joseph's wishes, no public services are planned. Joseph has donated his body to the University of Iowa Anatomical Department with the hope that his gift will assist research.

Joseph "Joe" Frank Martykan, was born on July 21, 1917 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Joseph and Mary (Kolar) Martykan. At age three, the family moved to Mitchell, Iowa. He graduated from the Mitchell High School. He then went to Chicago where he worked at various jobs. Joseph served in the U.S. Army during World War II and spent much of his service time in Australia. He was discharged in 1945 with the rank of sergeant. On January 6, 1951, he married Opal "Cookie" Cook. They lived in St. Ansgar and later moved to Osage. Opal passed away on April 8, 2000. Joseph worked for the Iowa State Highway Department for 34 years, retiring in 1992 as a highway maintenance foreman. He entered the Faith Home in March of 2004.

Joseph is survived by his sister, Alice Wolff of Charles City; two nephews, Russell (Linda) Wolff of Charles City and Gerald (Vi) Jurasek of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Opal; a sister, Frances Jurasek; and two nephews, Larry Wolff and Ronald Jurasek.

Kathleen Kollman

July 7, 2010

Kathleen Ann (Klemesrud) Kollman, age 76, of Osage, died on Saturday, July 3, 2010, in the Alzheimer's Unit at the Manly Nursing and Rehab Center in Manly.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, July 8, at the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, with the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation is from 4-6:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Kathleen was born on March 27, 1934 in Mitchell County, Iowa, to Kenneth and Nora (Maakestad) Klemesrud. She graduated from the Osage High School in 1952. Kathleen worked briefly as a telephone operator in Osage. She married LaVern Kollman on March 20, 1954.

Kathleen enjoyed bowling, playing cards and being with her family. After LaVern retired, they traveled around the United States and to Australia and New Zealand.

Kathleen is survived by her husband, LaVern Kollman of Osage; daughter, Diane (David) Jennings of Osage; two grandsons, Ethan Jennings of Waterloo and Eric Jennings of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; and one great-grandson, Isaiah Jennings of Waterloo; and two brothers, Gary (Linda) Klemesrud of Iowa Falls and Richard (Terry) Klemesrud of North Champlin, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her two sisters, Marlys Klemesrud and Elizabeth (Klemesrud) Wold Deninger.

Jana Darlene Duck

July 7, 2010

Jana Darlene Duck, age 56, of Clear Lake and formerly of Osage, died on Sunday, July 4, 2010, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, July 7, at the Kinney Lindstrom Center Atrium at Opportunity Village in Clear Lake, with Pastor Rich Murray officiating. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m.

There will also be a funeral service at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, July 9, at the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, with Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., on Friday, at the Our Savior's Lutheran Church.

Jana was born on March 24, 1954 in Osage, Iowa, the daughter of Murray and Helen (Lee) Duck. She was raised in rural Osage. Jana has been a resident of Opportunity Village in Clear Lake for many years. She enjoyed outdoor activities, music, attending church services and socializing with the staff and her friends at Opportunity Village. Jana especially enjoyed visits from her family.

Jana is survived by her mother, Helen Duck of Osage; two brothers, Miles (Cheryl) Duck of Mason City and Melvin Duck of Osage; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Murray Duck in 2000.

Gerald Lynn Fredericks

July 7, 2010

Gerald Lynn Fredericks, age 83, of Osage, died on Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, July 10, at the First United Methodist Church in Osage, with Rev. Anna Blaedel officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-8:00 p.m., on Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Gerald was born on February 6, 1927, to Albert John and Nellie Edith (Sherer) Fredericks, in Geneva, Iowa. He graduated from the Geneva High School in 1945. On June 12, 1949, he married Donna M. Stackhouse at The Church of Christ in Hampton, Iowa. Gerald worked as a carpenter after his graduation from high school and became a farmer in Hansell, Iowa, on March 1, 1950. In 1969, they moved to a farm west of Osage.

Gerald took great pride in having a well kept farmstead. He instilled in his children any job or undertaking of projects be done as if it were their own. Gerald was an avid sports fan. He played basketball, softball and was a baseball pitcher and first baseman. Gerald taught every child how to throw a baseball and softball. He coached a farm team, Little League and Babe Ruth Teams. Gerald was a devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved watching his boys wrestle and followed his children's activities faithfully. Gerald enjoyed playing saxophone and was a great dancer. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Osage, where he served on various committees.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Donna Fredericks of Osage; his children, Wayne (Ruth) Fredericks of Osage, Alan (Rose) Fredericks of Northwood, Bill (Julie) Fredericks of Thornton, Colorado, Sandy (Randy) Adams of Osage, Ivan (Robin) Fredericks of Northwood and Dee Ann Fredericks (Paul Leinen) of Des Moines; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jeffery Jay in 1984; and a brother, Donald.

Edwin F. "Ed" Huebsch

July 13, 2010

Ed Huebsch, age 95, of Osage, died on Thursday, July 8, 2010, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.

A Memorial Mass was held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, July 13, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Rev. John Moser officiating. Inurnment was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Following services, there was a time for lunch and to greet the family at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Osage.

Ed was born on September 13, 1914 in Perham, Minnesota, the son of Frank and Anna (Posel) Huebsch. On July 18, 1939, he married Helen Siebels at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Perham. They farmed in the Perham area and moved to Osage in 1960, where Ed continued to work in the turkey industry.

Ed was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage and was a Fourth Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and woodworking.

Ed is survived by his children, Bill (Colly) Huebsch of Osage, Carol (Ron) Gruber of Rochester, Minnesota, Joe (Sandy) Huebsch of Osage and Diane (Jon) Sparrow of Osage; 25 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sally (Norb) Tollefson of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen in 2005; his daughter, Lois Root; his son-in-law, Darrell Root; three brothers; and five sisters.

Marilyn Beyer

July 14, 2010

Marilyn Jean (Nicol) Beyer, 71, of rural Eyota, Minnesota, died on Sunday, July 11, 2010, at her home.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, at the St. Charles, Minnesota, United Methodist Church, with the Reverend Heather E. Klason officiating.

Marilyn was born on October 27, 1938 in Osage, Iowa, to Morris and May (Korte) Nicol. Marilyn married Robert Beyer on July 17, 1955 and they were later divorced. She worked at the First Bank in Rochester, Minnesota, until her retirement. She was a very active person who loved the outdoors, especially her gardening.

Survivors include a daughter, Penny Ryan of St. Charles; a son, Jeffrey (Lisa) Beyer of Oronoco, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Robert (Lindsay) Ryan and Brianna (Dave) Ryan of St. Charles, Amy Beyer and Luke Beyer of Oronoco; four great-grandchildren, Shaun, Kyliee and Tessa Ryan and Kiyanna Olson, all of St. Charles; three sisters, Ruby (Bob) Tabor of Del Rio, Texas, Dorothy Bublitz of Grafton and Edna (Marvin) Pitzen of Osage; two brothers, Carrol (Lorene) Nicol of Osage and Kenneth Nicol of Rockford, Illinois; and her special friend, Ray Johnson of rural Eyota.

She was preceded in death by a sister; and a son-in-law, Lyle Ryan.

Richard Adams

July 14, 2010

Richard Adams, 75, of Waterloo, passed away at the Cedar Falls Health Care Center, on Wednesday, July 14, 2010.

Visitation is from 1-4:00 p.m., on Sunday, July 18, at the Locke Funeral Home in Waterloo, followed by cremation and interment in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Richard was born on September 27, 1934 in Mitchell, Iowa, the son of Charles and Sadie Pfliger Adams. He married Lois M. Carpenter on September 5, 1956 in La Crosse, Wisconsin. She died on January 11, 2009. Richard worked for Viking Pump and for 30 years at John Deere, retiring in 1994. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He is survived by his sons, Barry Adams and Keith Adams, both of Waterloo; daughters, Becky (Darrell) Starkey and LaNette Adams, both of Waterloo; nine grandchildren, Amy Adams, Rob Leavell, Brian Adams, Kevin Adams, Rachel Leavell, Kimi Adams, Kacey Adams, Kara Adams, and Charles Adams; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Valasek of Mitchellville and Gene (Roy) Walters of Osage; and a brother, Chuck (Sonja) Adams of Arizona City, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; three sister, Vivian Orman, Jerry Johnson and Betty Brooking; and a brother, Bill Adams.

Eugene F. Pint

August 25, 2010

Eugene F. Pint, 76, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, died peacefully at his home on Friday, July 16, 2010.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, July 20, at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Hot Springs Village. Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Hospice, Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Eugene was born on September 12, 1933 in Osage, Iowa, to Anton and Regina (Blake) Pint. He attended the University of Iowa where he graduated in 1960 with a Masters in Education. Mr. Pint was a teacher, counselor and long term vice president of student affairs at the Elgin Community College. He was also a Korean War Army Veteran.

He and Mary Jo, his wife of 28 years, moved to Hot Springs Village in 1988. He was an avid golfer and a devoted Iowa Hawkeye fan. He was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.

Mr. Pint is survived by his wife, Mary Jo; three daughters, Renee (Kevin) Gurley of Wauconda, Illinois, Lisa Pint of Lombard, Illinois and Melissa (Jason) Reinwald of Grayslake, Illinois; three step-daughters, Jan (Mike) Schier of Sleepy Hollow, Illinois, Jane (Tony) Ambroso of Crystal Lake, Illinois and Jodi (Bruce) Farris of Woodstock, Illinois; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, Everett Pint of Waterloo, Iowa.

Mr. Pint was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Richard and Francis; and two sisters, Vivian and Marian.

Lucas Rueben Farlinger

July 28, 2010

Ames, Iowa-Lucas Rueben Farlinger, 22, of Ames, formerly of St. Ansgar, died at his residence on Tuesday, July 20, 2010.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, July 24, at the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lyle, Minnesota, with Rev. Barbara Finley-Shea officiating. Burial was in the Woodbury Cemetery, Lyle, Minnesota. Visitation was on Friday, from 4-7:00 p.m., at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, and continued one hour prior to the services at the church.

Lucas Rueben Farlinger, was born on October 2, 1987 in Austin, Minnesota, to Carl and Lisa (Mauer) Farlinger. He graduated from the St. Ansgar High School in 2006 and attended NIACC. He was currently a senior at ISU majoring in Information Management Systems and was employed by Maverick Software Consulting in Ames. Lucas liked building computers, gaming, cooking and organic foods.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Rueben and Elizabeth Nasby, John Farlinger and Frank and Elizabeth Mauer.

Lucas is survived by his parents, Carl and Lisa Farlinger; brother, Caleb; sister, Marisa; girlfriend, Alyssa Francis; great-grandmother, Alta Farlinger; grandparents, Earl and Marlene Farlinger and Dale and Theresa Mauer.

Eddie E. Nikolas

July 21, 2010

Virginia Beach, Virginia-Eddie Eugene Nikolas, 58, passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2010, from complications of cancer.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m., on Friday July 23, in the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel. Funeral services will be held at the St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Norfolk, on Saturday, at 11:00 a.m., with interment to follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Nikolas was born on September 20, 1951 in Charles City, Iowa. He was a retired Lieutenant from the US Navy after serving 24 years, with duty stations including the USS Iowa, BB-61 of which he was involved currently with the USS Iowa Veterans Association as Association Co-web master. He was currently employed with Battelle, Inc as a Senior Systems Analyst where he worked at the Pentagon in Washington, DC.

Eddie loved to be out in the sun, he was a sports enthusiast and was a Minnesota Vikings fan. He also enjoyed model airplanes, his Mustang convertible and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, brother, son and grandfather who will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Sheryl Nikolas; a son, Jason Nikolas and his wife, Kelly of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Monica Dodd and her husband, Jeff of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren, Michael, Brooke, Jenna, Adam, Ryan and he was looking forward to grandchild #6, a boy; his father, Eugene Nikolas of Osage; sisters, LaWanna McSweeney and her husband, Jim of Wisconsin and Rhonda Kramer of Minnesota; two brothers, Chester Stephens and his wife, Carolyn of Texas and Leonard Stephens and his wife, Louella of California; sisters-in-law, Debbie Brakel and her husband, Jim of Phoenix and Dana Thompson and her husband, Dave of Osage. He also leaves behind numerous extended family members and good friends.

Matt Williams

July 28, 2010

Matt Williams, age 38, of Osage, died on Sunday, July 25, 2010, at the St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, following a courageous battle against ALS.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, July 28, at the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, with Rev. Dennis Hanson and Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation was from 4-8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, at the Our Savior's Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, Osage.

Matt was born on March 8, 1972 in Osage, Iowa, the son of Robert and Ann (Voaklander) Williams. He graduated from the Osage High School in 1990 and attended Waldorf College, where he played baseball. He then transferred to NIACC where he received his associate's degree. Matt was employed at Wallace Computer Services in Osage. On June 8, 1996, he was united in marriage to Val Goodale at the Sacred Heart Church in Osage. Matt and Val then opened Flowers by Val Floral and Greenhouses, working together in the flower shop until Matt started working for Pepsi America in Mason City. He was transferred with Pepsi to Fargo, North Dakota and worked there for a year before returning to the Mason City office. In the fall of 2005, he started working for Leading Edge Ford in Osage. Matt was diagnosed with ALS in January of 2006, after which he retired to spend time with his family.

He played baseball for the North Stars and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and camping. Matt coached his children's ball teams and loved following them in all of their activities. He checked with his kids daily to see if they had done their push-ups and sit-ups.

Matt is survived by his wife and children, Val, Emma, Zach and Nolan Williams of Osage; his parents, Bob and Ann Williams of Osage; his sister, Theresa Shoger of Northwood and children, Alex, Maddy and Peyton; his sister, Joan (Steve) Jacobs of Osage and children, Trey (Amber) Jacobs and their children, Isabelle and Addison, Cory (Robyn) Jacobs and their son, Madden, Allison and Rachael Jacobs; his brother, Brian (Kristy) Williams of Waukee; his sister, Amy (Rob) Ring of Osage and children, Isaac, Caleb and Brianna; his mother-in-law, Cindy (Kurt) Brandau of Osage; his sister-in-law, Shelley Goodale and children, Jacey and Jalynn of Osage; his grandparents-in-law, Kenny and Ruby Goodale of Osage; several aunts and uncles; and Matt's special dog companion, Daisy.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Bob Goodale; his brother-in-law, Doug Shoger; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

William Andrew "Andy" Rolke

August 18, 2010

William Andrew "Andy" Rolke, of Greensboro, North Carolina, passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 25, 2010, at the age of 55.

A Memorial was held in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Sunday, August 1.

Andy was born on January 5, 1955, to Bernice and William Rolke in St. Paul, Minnesota. He went to school in Hudson, Wisconsin and later attended Iowa State University, Ames, where he met his future wife, Ann Viskocil. They were married on August 23, 1980 in Ames and they had one daughter, Laura. He was the successful founder and owner of A&A Building Systems since 1994, constructing metal buildings throughout North Carolina.

Andy was a devoted, loving husband and father. He had a great sense of humor, liked working outdoors and was loved and respected by everyone.

Andy is survived by his daughter, Laura Jane Rolke of Greensboro, North Carolina; his mother, Bernice Rolke of Greensboro; sisters, Kathleen (Michael) McGuire, Susan (Douglas) Braun and Becky (Ray) Selcke; one brother, David (Jean) Rolke; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Vivian Viskocil of Osage; sister-in-law, Jane (Jeff) Biddle of Nevada, Iowa; brother-in-law, James (Cynthia) Viskocil of River Falls, Wisconsin; niece, Kimberly (Nathaniel) Viskocil Scott; nephews, John Viskocil, Jeffery and Justin Biddle; and cousins, Vaughn and Carol Rossum of Osage.

Andy was preceded in death by his loving wife of 25 years, Ann Rolke in 2005; his father, William Rolke; Ann's mother and father, Mildred and Edward Viskocil.

Helen A. Danforth

August 4, 2010

Helen A. Danforth, 89, of Mount Vernon, died on Thursday, July 29, 2010, in her home.

Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, August 3, at the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, with a luncheon following. The Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon, helped the family with arrangements.

Helen was born on March 28, 1921 in Honolulu, T.H. (Territory of Hawaii), the daughter of Frank A. and Flora Clyde Danforth. She was educated in the public schools in Osage, Iowa. She earned her bachelor's degree at Cornell College, Phi Beta Kappa, in 1942, her master's at Northwestern University and did post-master's work at Northwestern and at the University of Michigan. Between 1942 and 1979 she taught in elementary schools in Iowa; Michigan; the Dependants' Schools in Heidelberg and Nurnberg, Germany; and in Winnetka, Illinois. Following optional early retirement in Winnetka, she moved to Mount Vernon. She taught and supervised student teachers for Cornell College, 1979-1987. She did similar work later for Mt. Mercy and Coe colleges.

Her publications included self-instructive materials for elementary youngsters in the fields of English and mathematics and monographs for parents for the public schools in Winnetka, Illinois.

Helen enjoyed travel, chiefly in Europe, and also to Alaska, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. She was an avid reader, an amateur gardener, and an active member of the United Methodist Church, Ingleside Book Club and the League of Women Voters, all of Mount Vernon.

Surviving Helen are many cousins, including Jerry (Nan) Danforth of Cedar Rapids, Margaret (Mike) Potter of Richfield, Minnesota, Peter (Meg) Ash of Atlanta, Georgia, Sherry Ash of Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania, Madeleine Clyde of Santa Cruz, California, Alan Clyde of La Habra, California, Marcia (Larry) Pleggenkuhle of St. Ansgar, Mark (Kathy) Steinberg of Marshalltown and Gene (Margie) Steinberg of Mason City. Helen had a wide community of friends, including long time friend, Mercedes Dolan of Cedar Rapids.

Helen requested no flowers. Memorial gifts may be given to the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church of Cornell College, both of Mount Vernon, Iowa and the Fellowship of Reconciliation, which works for peace, justice and nonviolence, Nyack, New York.

Larry William Hoffman

Larry William Hoffman, 63, of Toeterville, died on Saturday, July 31, 2010, after a two year battle with cancer, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center Hospice.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, August 5, at the St. Peter Lutheran Church, Toeterville, with Rev. Elain Siemsen officiating. Burial will be in the St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Toeterville. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 4, from 5-7:00 p.m., at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.

Larry William Hoffman, was born on July 2, 1947, to Merle and Delores (Feldt) Hoffman in Osage, Iowa. He graduated from the St. Ansgar High School in 1965. Larry was an Army veteran and served during Vietnam from 1966 to 1968. On June 7, 1969, he married Suzanne Hanson at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin, Minnesota and to that union two daughters were born. He worked at the Hormel Corporation from 1969 to 1987, Banker Life and Casualty from 1988 to 2010 as an insurance agent, and Grain Millers from 2008 to 2010.

He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing and cruising in his convertible Mustang. At home he was known for having a green thumb, growing flowers and vegetables and for putting on his chef's hat while grilling and cooking. He thrived when around others and loved spending time with his many friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents.

Larry is survived by his wife, Sue; two daughters, Rachelle Hoffman (Matt Diamanti) and Renae Northrop (Dan Northrop); four grandchildren, Jessica, Veda and Ian Northrop and Keegan Wentworth; his father, Merle Hoffman; and five sibling, Diane Steffen, Dennis Hoffman, LuAnn Downs, Lori Sweetland and Karyl O'Connor.

The Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, is in charge of the arrangements.
