Bessie Gunther

November 2, 2010

Bessie M. Lorence James Gunther, 86, died on Monday, November 1, 2010, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage. She had suffered from Parkinson's for many years.

A celebration of life open house will be held from 1-4:00 p.m., on Saturday, November 6, at Carol's home in Mitchell, Iowa, the property on which Bessie was born. A graveside service will be held in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Kansas City, Kansas, at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 7, where Bessie's cremains will be laid to rest beside her husband as per her wishes.

Bessie was born to Anton and Anna (Mach) Lorenc, immigrants of Czechoslovakia, in Mitchell, Iowa, on March 14, 1924. She graduated from the Mitchell High School. Bessie moved to Kansas City, Kansas and married Walter James, with whom she had a daughter, Carol Rose. She was a bookkeeper for General Diaper Service and the Real Estate Board of Kansas City, Missouri. She later married George C. Gunther with whom she owned Gunther's Bakery in North Kansas City, Missouri. They lived in Kansas City, Kansas and McLouth, Kansas. Bessie moved to Osage to be closer to her daughter, Carol, in 2003 and entered Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care in 2006. She enjoyed cooking, baking, playing cards, puzzles and going to the casino.

Bessie is survived by her daughter, Carol R. Hamilton of Mitchell; sister-in-law, Darlene Lorence of Osage; step-daughters, Ann Brough of Kansas City, Kansas and Laurie Wilson of Overland Park, Kansas; step-sons, G. Thomas Gunther of North Kingston, Rhode Island and David Gunther of Florence, Kentucky; seven step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews, many special friends and her very special loving family at Osage Rehab.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George in 1991; her parents; infant sister, Hedy; sister, Mary; and brothers, Joseph, Clement, Carl and Stanley.

The Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.



Cletus J. Heffern

November 9, 2010

Cletus J. Heffern, 86, of Mason City, died on Saturday, November 6, 2010, at the Nora Springs Care Center.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, November 11, 2010, at the Holy Family Catholic Church, with Rev. Kenneth Gehling officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, November 10, at the Major Erickson Funeral Home. A Knights of Columbus Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., followed by a Scriptural Wake Service at 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery.

Cletus was born on February 16, 1924 in La Crosse, Wisconsin, the son of John C. and Anna (Kelley) Heffern. He graduated from the Waterville School. Cletus served as a Private in the U.S. Army. He married Betty Brelsford on June 18, 1949 in Perry, Iowa. They lived in Union, Iowa, for 12 years before moving to Mason City in 1962. He operated the locker while in Union. Cletus worked as a Livestock Dealer for Hygrade, Dubuque Packing Company, and the Central Livestock Association. He semi-retired and continued working for Central for several years. At the time of his death he was involved with C & S Cattle Company with special friends Steve and Vicki Johnson of Osage. Cletus was a true cattleman's gentleman. He was devoted to the cattle industry and his passion for it kept him going. Through the wonderful people in the industry, he met business associates who became lifelong friends.

He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus (for 60 years) and the Elks Lodge. Cletus was a public relations man from way back and acquired many friends with his gift. He had a generous spirit and loved to be on the go. Cletus enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sporting events, traveling with his wife, on family vacations and with his siblings, and spending the winter months in Arizona. His two daughters' were his biggest hobby and we will truly miss his wisdom and guidance. 

Cletus is survived by two daughters, Susan (Shawn) Weydert of Mason City and Jane Goodwin of New Hampton; three granddaughters, Melissa of St. Louis, Missouri, Danielle and Michala Goodwin of New Hampton; one grandson, Jamison Weydert of Mason City; one sister, Donna Curtin of Cedar Rapids; one brother, Robert Heffern of Waukon; and sister-in-law, Joan Heffern of Cedar Rapids. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 60 years, Betty in 2009; son, James Cletus Heffern in infancy; and one brother, Don Heffern.

Doris Naomi Vogel

November 30, 2010

Doris Naomi Vogel, 93, of Riceville, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2010, at her home.

Funeral Services were held at 10:30 p.m., on Thursday, November 11, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Riceville, with burial in the Calvary Cemetery. Visitation was held from 4-8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at the Conway Funeral Home in Riceville. There was a 4:00 p.m. Rosary and a 6:00 p.m. Prayer Service on Wednesday.

Doris was born on July 21, 1917 at Traer, Iowa, the daughter of Amos and Millicent (Baughman) West. Doris attended and graduated from the Malcom High School. She attended one year of college at Iowa State Teacher's College (U.N.I) in Cedar Falls. Doris married Louis Henry Vogel on October 1, 1940, at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Brooklyn, Iowa, where they raised four children. Doris worked at the Rath Packing Plant in Waterloo, Iowa. She and her husband farmed at Tama and Buckingham, before moving to the Riceville area in 1957. She was employed at Mason's Food Market for 27 years.

She was a member of the St. Anne's Rosary Society, St. Rita's Study Club and the Riceville Garden Club. Doris enjoyed her faith, her family, friends, flowers, reading and playing cards.

She is survived by her two sons, David of Marshalltown and Thomas of Waco, Texas; two daughters, Catherine of Riceville and Mary (Don) Vogel-Brown of Ankeny; four grandchildren, Anthony, Andrea, Joseph and Emily; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Catherine Robinson of Houston, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; her parents; and two sisters, Mae and Margaret.

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full into his wonderful face,
And things of this earth will go strongly dim,
Dim in the Light of His glory and Grace.



Samuel John Mullenbach

November 15, 2010

Samuel John Mullenbach, 57, of Johnsburg, died on Monday, November 8, 2010, at the St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota.

Memorial services were held at 1:30 p.m., on Friday, November 12, 2010, at the St. John's Catholic Church, Johnsburg, Minnesota, with Father Thomas Loomis officiating.  Interment was in the St. John's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation was at the church for one hour before the services on Friday.

Sam was born on April 9, 1953 in Osage, Iowa, to Norbert and Alice (Klapperich) Mullenbach. After graduating from the Adams High School, Sam worked for a short time at TCM in Stacyville. He ran a small fix-it shop at his home, where he would do odd jobs for friends and family. Sam was also the long time custodian at the St. John's Catholic Church in Johnsburg. Sam was known as a practical joker and in his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and being in the outdoors. In his spare time, Sam enjoyed cruising around in his pickup.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Norbert and Alice Mullenbach; grandparents; brother, Mathias; and nephew, Calvin Mayer.

Sam is survived by sisters, Linda (James) Wagner of Osage, Sharon Mullenbach of Elkton, Minnesota, Norma Mullenbach of Austin, Minnesota and Ann (Joe) Mayer of Stacyville; brother, Mark Mullenbach of Austin, Minnesota; nine nieces and nephews; and eight great-nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.

Bessie Pollard

November 9, 2010

Bessie Lavawn Pollard, age 99, of Osage, died on Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at her home in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, November 12, at the First United Methodist Church in Osage, with Rev. Anna Blaedel officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-7:00 p.m., on Thursday, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Bessie was born on August 8, 1911 in Deep River, Iowa, the daughter of Herbert and Jennie (Hill) Pierce. She graduated from the Deep River High School in 1929 and received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Bessie married James Edwin Pollard on July 4, 1940 in Lancaster, Missouri. She taught in rural schools in the Deep River area and they moved to Osage in 1949.

Bessie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Osage, the Retired Teachers Association, Osage Wa-Tan-Ye and the First United Methodist Women. She was a Girl Scout Leader and served as a Sunday School teacher for over 30 years. Bessie enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards, dominoes and reading.

Bessie is survived by her five children, Ned (Carol) Pollard of Osage, Gary Pollard of Osage, Elaine (Craig) Rose of Clinton, Missouri, Kay (Larry) Combs of Corinth, Texas and Janet (Claude) Kirchgatter of Riceville; Joni Graves (friend and caregiver) of Osage; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James in 1973; a daughter, Nancy; a great-granddaughter, April Pollard; and four brothers and five sisters.

Gary James Torney

November 17, 2010

Gary James Torney, 71, of Riceville, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at his residence following an illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, November 19, at the Riceville United Methodist Church in Riceville, with Rev. Dan Christensen officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Riceville. Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville on Thursday, from 4-8:00 p.m. and one hour before the services at the church on Friday.

Gary was born on October 14, 1939, to Glen and Mary (Buttolph) Torney in Riceville, Iowa, where he lived his entire life. He was united in marriage to Geraldine Taets on May 5, 1962. To this union two children were born, Connie and Randy. During his high school years at Riceville High he was an avid Riceville Wildcat and worked at the Iris Theatre as a projector operator and at Kinneman's Conoco gas station until graduating in 1958. After graduating he went to work for Grupp's driving gravel truck. Later he started at the Chicago Great Western Railroad as a Depot agent for 13 years at different Depot locations. From 1972-1975, he was the Chief of Police of Riceville. He then went to work for the Mitchell County Sheriff's Office where he retired after 25 years as a Mitchell County Deputy Sheriff with the number 66-2.

He was a life long trap-shooter with many awards from surrounding state shoots. He included his grandsons, Lyle and Ryan in his passion for trapshooting. Early years were also spent racing his cars at several local dirt tracks with later years enjoying building and racing with his son, Randy and then the promoter at the Cresco Speedway. 

Several other interests included snowmobiling, riding his Goldwing motorcycle, casino trips, coffee at Andy's, time spent with his kids and grandkids and his many travels with his wife, Gerry. 

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine; daughter, Connie (Dean) Eastman; son, Randy (Amy) Torney; grandchildren, Lyle (JoLynn) Eastman, Ryan Eastman (Karli Friedrich) and April Torney; great-granddaughter, Kallie Eastman, all of Riceville; and other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Mary Torney; his parents-in-law, Rene and Inga Taets; brothers, Gaylord and Ronnie; and other extended family and friends.



Dorothy Hegland

November 22, 2010

Dorothy Hegland, 87, of St. Ansgar, died on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, November 20, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Dr. Byron Northwick officiating. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar. Friends may call at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar, on Friday, November 19, from 4-8:00 p.m. and one hour before the services at the church on Saturday, November 20.

Dorothy Marie Anna, was born on March 10,1923, to Grover and Dora (Eske) Halverson in St. Ansgar, where she lived her entire life. She was the oldest of three children. She attended and graduated from the St. Ansgar Public School. On August 5, 1951, she was united in marriage to James William "Bill" Hegland. To this union six children were born. During her high school years Dorothy worked at the local newspaper as a type setter to help support her family due to a serious accident that her father was involved in. After graduation, she continued to work at the newspaper until she became employed at the St. Ansgar State Bank. She was employed there as a bookkeeper/computer operator until 2009, when health concerns forced her retirement. She was extremely proud of the fact that she was able to work fulltime until the age of 86.

Dorothy's entire life was centered around family. She cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed attending any event they participated in whether it involved school, church, or home. Many miles were driven to attend activities in St. Michael, Hastings, Cedar Rapids, Cedar Falls and Forest City. Dorothy was especially proud of the fact that she was able to see each of her grandchildren graduate from high school and many of them from college. Dorothy was actively involved with the local Boy Scouts. She was the first female in Iowa to be presented the "Silver Fawn" award, the highest female honor in Boy Scouting. She was very proud of the fact that all of her sons became Eagle Scouts, along with numerous other young men in the community.

Dorothy was well known throughout the area for her cake decorating talent. She started by making her own wedding cake and over the years made wedding cakes for her children, all of her married grandchildren and numerous friends and relatives throughout the area. She loved furnishing cakes for local athletic celebrations and fundraisers.

She and her husband, Bill, were avid sports fans. They followed the athletic careers of both their children and grandchildren religiously. It was not uncommon to see their faces in the crowd at Saints athletic events or manning the "chuckwagon" at track meets, handing out goodies to the Saints athletes, a tradition she carried out until their last grandson graduated. She was also more than willing to help out and share advice with officials when it was needed. She was known as Grandma to many Saints athletes. She was extremely proud of the fact that she was inducted into the Saint Ansgar Booster Club Hall of Fame. In recent years she was able to travel extensively to watch the UNI Panther football team, the Waldorf girls' basketball and softball teams and the Seattle Seahawks and Dallas Cowboys. Sitting on the 50-yard line at Super Bowl XL, cheering her grandson on, was a cherished memory.

Dorothy is survived by her six children, Mary Lowana (Paul) Hannam) of St. Ansgar, Michael (Marian) Hegland of Cedar Rapids, David (Jane) Hegland of St. Michael, Minnesota, Timothy (LaVonne) Hegland of St. Michael, Minnesota, Becky Hegland of St. Ansgar and James (Linda) Hegland of Hastings, Minnesota; 16 grandchildren, Robyn (Mitch) Huddle, Ryan (April) Hannam, Ross (Megan) Hannam, Rachel Hannam, Reid Hannam, Joseph (Alison) Hegland, Samuel (Hayley) Hegland, Matthew (Christan Shulstad) Hegland, Kevin (fiancée, Laura Hansen) Hegland, Steven (Megan Peterson) Hegland, Stacy Hegland, Bryan (Megan Dooley) Hegland, Marcus Hegland, Lucas Hegland, Craig (Tracy Sieben) Hegland, Megan (Dan Richter) Hegland; great-grandchildren, Grace Hannam, Sophia Hegland, Jenna Hannam, and Taylor Huddle; sister and brother-in-law, Janis and Susan Blumentals; brother-in-law; Wayne Rasmus. Special pet and friend, Annie; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill in 1996; sister, Laurine Rasmus; brother, Wilmer Halverson; in-laws, Ben and Margaret Hegland; brothers-in-law, Robert, Bud and Thomas Hegland; and sister- in-law, Dorothy Jean Harris.

Dorothy's passing has left a huge hole in her family's hearts that can never be replaced. Along with her family, she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Blessed be her memory.

Jean Yvonne (Edison) Schaefer

November 22, 2010

Jean Yvonne (Edison) Schaefer, age 71, of McIntire, Iowa, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died on Thursday morning, November 18, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 22, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Ron Barnett officiating. Interment was at Grandview Cemetery, Austin.

She was born on October 2, 1939 in Comfrey, Minnesota, to Otto and Ethel (Schroeder) Stark. After graduation from the Redwood Falls High School in 1957, Jean attended Austin Vo-Tech where she trained to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She married David Edison on March 17, 1963 in Austin. They were later divorced and she married Michael Schaefer on July 23, 1994 at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church. She worked for 37 and a half years at Olaf Hospital which is now known as Austin Medical Center, the majority of time in obstetrics.

A member of the St. Olaf Lutheran Church, the Eagles and the Adams American Legion Auxiliary, she enjoyed knitting, spending time with her grandchildren and volunteering at many functions, including Osage Hospital and Veterans Day events.

Survivors include her husband, Michael Schaefer of McIntire; two daughters, Jane (Robert) Rascon of Albert Lea and Amy (Mike) Stephens of Rose Creek; five grandchildren, Amanda Edison, Matthew, Luke, Jacob and Hope Stephens; two sisters, Marilyn (Paul) Elwein of Brainerd and Lynette Chapman of Cannon Falls; brother-in-law, Dwayne Anderson of Albert Lea; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, David Edison; a brother, Dennis Stark; and one sister, Kathleen Anderson.

Duane Barenz

November 22, 2010

Duane Barenz, age 84, of Osage, died on Friday, November 19, 2010, at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, November 22, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with Rev. Dennis Hanson officiating. Following services, cremation will take place. Inurnment will be in the Little Cedar Cemetery in Little Cedar, Iowa, with a flag presentation by the Osage American Legion Post 278.

Duane was born on May 23, 1926 in Little Cedar, the son of Willis and Esther (Bensen) Barenz. He attended school in Little Cedar and graduated from the Little Cedar High School in 1943. After school, Duane served in United States Army. Duane was united in marriage to Grace Gage on March 8, 1953, at the United Methodist Church in Charles City. They farmed in the Little Cedar area until 1982, when they moved to their acreage on the River Road and Duane opened Barenz Rod Shop.

He was a member of the Osage American Legion and the United Methodist Church. Duane enjoyed bird watching, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.

Duane is survived by his wife, Grace Barenz of Osage; five children, Josanne (Doug) Six of Ames, Roxanne (Marlin) Clemens of Ogden, Dianne Menden of Ames, David (Therese) Barenz of Solon and Rita (Kent) Pitzen of Cresco; seven grandchildren, Sara and Christopher Niemand, Terry and Michelle Groesbeck, Andrew Barenz, Casandra and Alexis Pitzen; two great-grandchildren, Shayne and Abby Groesbeck.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Darrell Barenz; and a brother, Clinton Barenz.

Della L, Sprung

November 22, 2020

Della Louise Sprung, age 80, of Osage, died on Sunday November 21, 2010, at the St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, of complications from a fall.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, November 24, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with Pastor Gary Gilbert officiating. Burial will be in the Little Cedar Cemetery, in Little Cedar, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4-8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home.

Della was born on January 7, 1930, the daughter and only child of Oscar and Myra (McPhail) Johnson. Della attended school in Little Cedar, graduating from the Little Cedar High School in 1947. She attended Luther College for one year and began teaching in Stanley, Iowa. She later finished her Bachelor's Degree by attending Upper Iowa University. Della met and married Russell Sprung on March 24, 1951, at the Little Cedar United Methodist Church, Little Cedar, Iowa. To this union three children were born, Cheryl, Marilyn and Alan. They farmed in the Little Cedar area while Della taught in McIntire and Brownville, where she was the last teacher in that one-room schoolhouse. She later taught at the Riceville Elementary School. She taught in the Riceville School District for 35 years until she was forced to retire due to medical reasons.

Della thoroughly enjoyed basketball, gardening, cooking, teaching and spending time with her family. She was a member of Retired Teachers and David Ladies Aide and was always willing to help wherever she could.

Della is survived by her daughters, Cheryl (Gary) Pearson of Osage and Dr. Marilyn (Robert) Waldschmidt of Waterville, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Shannon (Waldschmidt) Walters, Russell Waldschmidt, Nathan Waldschmidt, Rachel Waldschmidt and Ingbritt Pearson; three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Chris and John Robert; and her beloved pet dog, "Vita".

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell Sprung in 2005; and her son, Alan Sprung in 2009.

Marvin H. Kofoot

November 30, 2010

Marvin H. Kofoot, 79, of St. Ansgar, died on Wednesday, November 24, 2010.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, November 29, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with Rev. Dr. Byron Northwick officiating. Burial was in the Immanuel Cemetery, St. Ansgar. Visitation was held on Sunday, November 28, from 3-7:00 p.m., at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.

Marvin H. Kofoot, was born on December 21, 1930, to Ernest and Martha (Robeoltman) Kofoot in Rockwell, Iowa. He was baptized at the St. Peter Lutheran Church, Rockwell. He was confirmed at the First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar. He graduated from the St. Ansgar High School. He served his country in the US Army from 1953-1955. On June 7, 1953, he married Berna Dean Scheer at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar. They farmed until 1996, when they moved to St. Ansgar. Berna Dean died in 1997. He married Milda (Micky) Hook in 1999.

Marvin enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, gardening and farming. He was a member of the American Legion, Lion's Club, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Fire Board, 4-H Leader, City Council member and was currently serving as Mayor of St. Ansgar.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Berna Dean; and granddaughter, Rebecca.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Micky of St. Ansgar; sons, Larry of St. Ansgar, Dean of Fort Atkinson and Allen of Algona; daughters, Vicki Kofoot of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Debra Hytry of Sparta, Wisconsin; sons and daughters of Micky, Steve, Dennis, Brian, Kathie, Sheila and Wendy; brothers, Ralph of Spring Valley, Minnesota, Leo of Spirit Lake, Lyle of Sheldon, Illinois and Donald of St. Ansgar; sisters, Helen Mae Lickweg of Sheffield, Lucille Sollberg of Floyd, Iowa and Donella Kline of St. Ansgar; 15 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Jerald Sullivan, age 82, of Osage, died on Thursday, November 25, 2010, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, November 29, at the St Peter's Catholic Church in New Haven, Iowa. The officiating clergy was Rev. Ray E. Atwood; the servers were John Hartogh & Dick Meirick; Lector was Cheryl Jahnel; the gifts were carried by Diane Sullivan and Melanie Sullivan; music was provided by the organist, Betty Condon and the St. Peter's Choir; the Honorary Bearers were Kenny Michels, Dean Michels, Dean Byrnes, Don Foxen, Marvin Reis and Bud Counsell; the Casket Bearers were, Tom Michels, John Michels, Brad Sullivan, Derek Sullivan, Dan Sullivan and Lorimer Nelson. Interment was in the St Peters Cemetery at New Haven, Iowa. The Conway Funeral Home in Riceville, assisted with the arrangements.

Jerald Duane Sullivan, was born on June 1, 1928 in Mitchell County, near Osage, on the family farm home located on Sugar Hill, the son of Harold V. and Marie (Schweiger) Sullivan. He graduated from the St. Mary's Catholic School, New Haven, in 1946. Jerry served in the Army from 1953 to 1955 where he was stationed in Washington, D.C. He was on the Honor Guard for Military burials at Arlington National Cemetery and guarded the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. After his service, Jerry came home to farm with his father, Harold.

Jerry was a member of the St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Haven, the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was a member of the Osage and Riceville American Legions and served two years as commander of the Riceville Legion. He was also a long time member of the Minnesota Black Angus Association. Jerry enjoyed raising cattle, trips to the Dakotas and Montana and visiting at the local coffee shops with friends.

Jerry is survived by three brothers, Keith, Mark and John; and two sisters, Dorothy and Mary; and nephews, nieces and cousins.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.
