the Dumont Care Center.

in the Austinville
Cemetery. Rev. George
McGuire will officiate.
Irene was born Feb. 18,
1917, on a farm east of
Austinville to Rykus and
Lizzie Harken Rykena.
She graduated from
Aplington High School in
1934 and on Feb. 9, 1939
she married Theodore
Ubben at the Little
Brown Church at Nashua.
She and her husband
farmed southwest of
Dumont for two years
then moved to west of
Austinville. She was a
homemaker and a member
of the Aplington
Christian Reformed
Church; Tops of Ackley;
and Get Off Your Rocker
in Aplington.
She is survived by two
sons, Thomas and wife,
Sharon, of Aplington and
Dale and wife, Lori, of
Ackley; a daughter,
Marilyn LaPiere of
Ridgeland, Miss.; seven
grandchildren; and nine
great-grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by
her parents and her
husband, Theodore in
1974.

died Thursday, May 31,

Shepherd Heatlth Care
Center in Mason City
from Alzheimer's
disease. Services were
held Monday, June 4 at
St. Paul's Lutheran
Church in Eldora with
burial in the Eldora
Cemetery. Pastor David
Platt officiated.
Bill was born July 10,
1921, in Eldora to
Herman and Lydia
Guenther Tietz. He
graduated from Eldora
High School in 1938 and
Iowa State University
with a degree in
Veterinary Medicine. He
practiced in Eldora for
39 years. On Oct. 26,
1947, he married
Elizabeth "Betty"
Oldenburg in Eldora. He
enjoyed his profession
and was a past board
member of the Iowa
Veterinary Medical
Association. He was a
member of the Rotary
Club, served as past
chairman of the board at
2nd National Bank of
Eldora, had served on
the County Board of
Education and past
president of the Eldora
Memorial Hospital Board.
He served as a livestock
judge at the Hardin
County Fair for many
years and in 1963 was
named Eldora Chamber of
Commerce Man of the
Year. He built and
operated the Eldora Town
& Country Mobile Home
Park in Eldora. Bill was
a member of St. Paul's
Lutheran Church in
Eldora and enjoyed
sports, music, bird
watching, gardening and
traveling.
He is survived by two
daughters, Janann Price
and husband, Brad, of
Clear Lake and Trudy
Martin and husband,
John, of Urbandale; two
sons, Bill and wife,
Sue, of West Branch and
Dan and wife, Cindy, of
Atalissa; a sister,
Betty Rieke and husband,
Ralph, of Fairmont,
Minn.; and nine
grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by his
parents; his wife,
Betty, in 1993; a
brother Ted and an
infant sister.

Care Center in Dows.

First Lutheran Church in

officiated.
Edna was born June 24,
1909, in Dows to Oliver
and Alice Gorder
Gardalen. She attended
rural Dows schools. On
Dec. 22, 1928, she
married Walter Hartkopp
at her parents home in
Dows. They farmed north
of Popejoy until 1958
when they retired from
farming and moved into
Popejoy. Edna worked for
the Ellsworth turkey
plant for several years.
She was an active member
of the First Lutheran
Church at Dows, FLCW,
Popejoy Improvement Club
and Popejoy Senior
Citizens.
She is survived by a
son, Merle and wife,
Martha, of Popejoy; a
daughter-in-law, Arlene
Faye of Ankeny; four
grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren;
four brothers, Harley of
Popejoy, Floyd of
Denver, Colo., Lloyd of
Broomfield and Leo of
Clear Lake. She was
preceded in death by her
parents; her husband,
Walter in 1973; her
stepmother, Anna
Gardalen; two brothers,
Lester and Donald; a

grandson, Michael

Tammi was born May 11,
1959, in Rochester to

Strelow. She graduated
from high school in
Rochester and she
attended Rochester Area
Vocational Institute
graduating in the Dental
Assistant Program. On
April 11, 1981, she
married Michael Guenther
in Rochester. They lived
throughout the United
States as a military
family, moving to Tomah
in 1997. She enjoyed
volunteering at the
children's schools and
taught Sunday School.
One of her special
contributions was
volunteering at the
Relay for Life and in
1999, she was the
honorary chairman. She
enjoyed crafting,
especially sewing and
ceramics.
She is survived by her
husband, Mike, of Tomah;
her children, Cory and
Kelsey; her parents,
Allan and Eunice Strelow
of Rochester; three
sisters, Michelle Potter
and husband, John, of
Rochester, Debra Sells
and husband, Bill, of

Rachel was born May 16,
1925, in New Providence
to Ralph and Marie
Humeston Walton. She was
a descendant of the
Quaker Reece family who
founded the Quaker
communities of New
Providence and Honey
Creek. She graduated
from Alden High School
in 1943, Ellsworth
College and AIB College
in Des Moines, majoring
in secretarial science
and playing on the
basketball team. She
moved to Phoenix in 1948
and on Sept. 4, 1953,
she married George
Dearing. She was
secretary to the
principal of two high
schools in Phoenix and
she and her husband were
members of the Dons of
Arizona for 43 years.
She is survived by her
husband, George, of
Phoenix; a daughter,
Diane ; a son, Hugh and
wife, Leslie; five
grandchildren and a
sister, Sara Lee Henslee.
She was preceded in
death by her parents and
a brother, Philip.

Dannen. He served in the
United States Navy
during World War II and
worked as a building
contractor in Prescott
Valley for 25 years. He
enjoyed softball and
enjoyed working with
youth. He was inducted
into the Iowa Softball
Hall of Fame in 1993. He
was a member of the
American Legion Post No.
108 of Prescott Valley;
the Mingus View
Presbyterian Church,
where he helped organize
and build the church. He
had been married to his
wife, Ethel, for 53
years.
He is survived by his
wife, Ethel, of Prescott
Valley; two sons, Scott
and wife, Jean, of
Dewey, Ariz. and Blake
of Prescott Valley; a

worked at a local
restaurant, the
Radcliffe Signal paper,
for Doctor Hess and 25
years as a cook at the
Radcliffe chool. She was
a member of Our Savior's
Lutheran Church in
Radcliffe where she
taught Sunday School and
was a member of the ALCW.
She is survived by two

Ackley. They farmed
northwest of Wellsburg
until 1972 when they
moved into town. His
hobbies were
leathercraft and
woodworking, items which
were displayed Camp
Sunnyside, and made as
gifts for his family. He
enjoyed fishing,
hunting, reading and
computer research.
He is survived by his
wife, Mary; two
daughters, Marilyn
Adelmund and husband,
Jerry, of Parkersburg,
and Donna Crosser and
husband, Harold, of Iowa
Falls; a son, Arnold and
wife, Pat, of Flandreau,

construction jobs until
being seriously injured
in an automobile
accident in 1998, that
left him disabled.
Bradley died of diabetic
complications at his
home in New Haven.
He is survived by his
mother, Minnie Norem, of
Iowa Falls; a sister,

husband, Don, of
Blairsburg; two
brothers, Loyal

Linda, of Alden, and

Rowan. They farmed at
Dike for a time and in
1935, he began working
for the Chicago and
Northwestern Railway on
the section crew,
retiring in 1970. They
lived in Rowan and in
1986 they moved to
Alden. He entered
Heritage Care Center in
1999.
He is survived by a
daughter, Delores
Jackson and husband,
Jim, of Rowan; a son
Ivan Dean and wife,
Elsie, of Alden; five
