Judith “Judy” Schmidt

Judith “Judy” Schmidt, 92, of Waverly, Iowa formerly from New Hampton passed away Sunday, May 30, 2010 at Tripoli Nursing Home, Tripoli.


Funeral services are Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Frederika, with Pastor Dale Halverson officiating.  Burial will be in the Sunnyside Memorial Gardens Cemetery rural Charles City.  Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and also an hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.  Judy’s family request memorials be directed to either, St. John’s Lutheran Church or Cedar valley Hospice of Waverly and online condolences for Judith may be left at www.kaisercorson.com.   319-352-1187.


John James Denner

John James Denner,  74 of Waterloo, formerly of Lawler, died Monday evening, May 31, 2010, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo.

Private family graveside services will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery in Lawler.

John James Denner was born October 20, 1935, in Lawler, Iowa the son of Henry W. and Nellie H. (Busta) Denner. He received his education in Lawler and began farming south of Lawler for 25 years.

On April 4, 1959, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas, he married Germaine Foreman. To this union five children were born. The couple later divorced. John also attended Hawkeye Technical College receiving an associate degree in agriculture and began working for the Iowa State College research farm near Boone, IA. After ten years he retired and lived in Waterloo.

John enjoyed dancing, playing cards and watching Waterloo Bucks baseball.

Survivors include his very special friend, Norma Strom of Cedar Falls; three sons, Tim (Karen) Denner of Lawler, Terry (Teri) Denner of Fredericksburg and David (Linda) Denner of New Hampton; two daughters, Jan (Dave) Meirick of Phoenix, AZ and Denise (Mike) Webster of New Hampton; 14 grandchildren, Jackie Meirick, Jeff Meirick, Kelli Meirick, Billy Meirick, Julie (Darren) Westendorf, Scott Denner, Brandon Denner, Eric Denner, Ryan Denner, Zach Denner, Hannah Denner, Michael Denner, Raelyn Webster and Nolan Webster; three great grandchildren, Braxten, Cayson and Maddox Westendorf; one brother, Tom (Norma) Denner of Kansas City, MO; two sisters, Betty (Art) Winter of Kansas City, MO and Mary Jane (Jim) Zieser of Marion, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two granddaughters, Jenna Lynn Denner and Christian Erin Meirick.


Irma Mae Lusson

Irma Mae Lusson, 71 of St. Lucas, died Saturday, May 29, 2010, at her home.

A Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 3, 2010, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, St. Lucas with Rev. David Beckman celebrating the Mass. The pall will be placed on the casket by her husband and two sons. The offertory gifts will be presented by Taylor Bushman and Tonya Winter.

Interment will be in the church cemetery with Kyle Miller, Greg Balk, Roger Paulus, Lucas Winter, Bruce Miller and Dean Miller serving as pallbearers.

Friends may call 4 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at St. Luke’s Church, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 6 p.m. scripture service. Irma Mae Lusson was born January 28, 1939, in New Hampton, the daughter of John William and Agnes Magdalene (Croatt) O’Donnell. She received her education at St. Williams Catholic Grade School and High School in Alta Vista. After graduating, she worked as a nurses aide at the hospital in New Hampton.

On May 5, 1959, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Alta Vista, she married William Lusson of St. Lucas. To this union three children were born. Irma worked side-by-side with her husband Bill farming. While raising her children, she also worked at the hospital in West Union for many years.

In her free time she enjoyed skiing, bike riding, and collecting antique dishes and dolls. Vera loved making quilts and giving them to her children. Membership’s include St. Luke’s Catholic Church and Rosary Society and the Catholic Order of Foresters.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, William; two sons, Dave Lusson of Iowa City and Duane Lusson of Ottumwa; one daughter, Dianne (Rick) Bushman of Seneca, IL; three grandchildren, Lucas Winter, Tonya Winter and Taylor Bushman; three sisters, Mary O’Donnell of St. Cloud, MN, Florence Reicks of Alta Vista, IA and Margaret Randak of Lourdes, IA; one brother, Jim (Charlotte) O’Donnell of Alta Vista; one sister-in-law, Jeanette (Dennis) Miller, Ossian.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Catherine Dietrich and two brothers-in-law, Cyril Reicks and Bob Randak.


Donald E. Shepard

Donald E. Shepard, 80 of Nashua, died Friday May 28, 2010, at Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles City.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 3, 2010, at the United Methodist Church, Nashua with interment Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua. Full military honors will be conducted by the Nashua VFW Post 6792.

Vera Mae Knutson, age 93 of Fredericksburg, died Saturday evening, May 29, 2010, at the New Hampton Care Center.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at the Peace United Church of Christ in Fredericksburg with Pastor Burt Williams officiating.

Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg with Terry Elliott, Bill Mulder, Ron Schutte, Brad Mohs, Bryan O’Day and Gary Schultz serving as casketbearers.

Vera Mae Knutson was born August 4, 1916, on a farm in Floyd County, Iowa near Charles City, the daughter of James R. and Ella Harriet (Burrows) Rodman. Vera was educated in rural schools in Butler and Chickasaw Counties and attended high school in Fredericksburg. She also attended the Pitzies School of Cosmetology in Waterloo.

On February 6, 1938, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa Vera was united in marriage to Glenn Henry Knutson. To this union three children were born, two sons and one daughter.

Vera was a beautician, wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed her home, spending time with her family and sewing. She was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Fredericksburg.

Vera is survived by her husband of 72 years, Glenn (Bud) Knutson of Fredericksburg; two sons, Gaylord Glenn (Anna Marie) Knutson and Ronald James (Karen) Knutson both Fredericksburg; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her only daughter, Wanda (Lou) Borlaug; six sisters and three brothers.


Patricia Louise Coil

Patricia Louise Coil, 71 of New Hampton, died Friday morning, May 28, 2010, at Cedar Valley Hospice in Waterloo after a 17 month battle with cancer.

Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 5, 2010, at the New Home General Baptist Church, Lowery, rural Keenes, IL. Friends may greet the family an hour prior to the service at church.

Patricia was born April 15, 1939, in Hamilton County, IL, the daughter of Joseph and Jeanetta Alice Louise (Cluck) Crabtree. She was a 1957 graduate of the Mt. Vernon Townhsip High School. On April 6, 1958, in Mt. Vernon, IL, she married Roy Coil at the Central Church of Christ. To this union three children were born. The couple moved to New Hampton in 1986.

Survivors include her husband, Roy; one son, Calvin (Regina) Coil of Stuart, IA; two daughters, Kathy Coil and Sherry Frisch, both of New Hampton; one brother, Ronald (Mary Lynne) Crabtree of Mt. Vernon, IL; five grandchildren, Aaron Coil, Casey Coil, Jessica Coil, Kirk Frisch and Tabitha Frisch; three great-grandchildren, Haley Coil, Asher Coil and Logan Coil.

She was preceded in death by her parents.


Arnold “Arnie” Tank

Arnold “Arnie” Tank, 77 of New Hampton, died Monday evening, May 31, 2010, at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Friday June 4, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton with Pastor Kevin Frey officiating. The pall will be placed by his wife and children. Dennis Strum will be the organist with selections, “Amazing Grace” by the congregation, “In The Garden” by Pastor Kevin Frey, and “Go Rest High On That Mountain” special CD.

Interment will be in New Hampton City Cemetery with Dave Wilson, Travis Tank, Gary Tank, Kenneth Tank, Aaron Bartz and Shawn Bartz as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Arnie’s grandchildren, Travis Tank, Tyler Tank, Tanner Tank, Sam Tank, Jake Tank, Jamie Wilson and Marcy Uglum.

Arnold Kenneth Tank was born November 19, 1932, in Lawler, IA the son of Harold F. and Mabel V. (Lewig) Tank. He was baptized December 18, 1932, at the former St. John Lutheran Church in Lawler and confirmed June 27, 1948, at the former St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in New Hampton.

Arnie received his education in Lawler and after his 8th grade graduation in 1948, he began working for his Dad’s company, H.F. Tank Construction.

On July 16, 1955, at the United Methodist Church in Nashua, Arnie was united in marriage to Lurlean E. Smith. To this union four children were born; Shirley in 1957, Marlys in 1958, and twin brothers, Dennis and Darrell in 1961. After his marriage to Lurlean, the couple moved to New Hampton where he began his own construction company, building houses and apartment buildings until failing eyesight forced him to retire.

Arnie enjoyed roller skating, dancing, ice skating, NASCAR, fishing, gardening and woodworking until his eyesight deteriorated. Visiting casinos was a much enjoyed pastime. He loved taking his children camping and vacationing when they were younger and loved seeing his grandchildren as much as possible.

Arnie is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lurlean; two daughters, Shirley (Linn) Wagoner and Marlys (Glenn) Uglum both of Lawler; two sons, Dennis (Anne) Tank of Minneapolis, MN and Darrell (Teresa) Tank of Austin, TX; seven grandchildren, Jamie (Dave) Wilson of Alta Vista, Travis (Nina) Tank, Tyler and Tanner Tank all of Austin, TX, Marcy Uglum of Lawler and Sam Tank and Jake Tank of Minneapolis, MN; two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Colin Wilson; one sister, Lois Hackman of Evansdale, IA and one sister-in-law, Jean Tank of New Hampton; three brothers, Wendell (LaVonne) Tank, LeRoy (Sandy) Tank and Alan (Karen) Tank all of New Hampton; one brother-in-law, Clarence Haupt Jr, of Sumner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Mabel Tank; two sisters, Ruth Tank and Helen Haupt; two brothers, Walter and LaVerne Tank.

Donald J. King, 79 of New Hampton, died Sunday, June 6, 2010, at his home.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday June 10, 2010 at Holy Family Parish – St. Joseph Center, New Hampton, with a private family inurnment in Calvary Cemetery, New Hampton at a later date.

Ralph C. Kennedy

Ralph C. Kennedy, 96 of New Hampton died Monday June 7, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center, New Hampton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2010, at Holy Family Parish - St. Joseph Center, New Hampton with Monsignor Carl Schmitt celebrating the Mass. The pall will be placed on the casket by his wife and children. Ed Kennedy will be the lector and the offertory gifts will be presented by granddaughters, Megan Blackwood and Katie Kennedy. Vocalist will be Roxanne Kennedy.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, New Hampton with Matt Kennedy, Nathan Carney, Neil Kennedy, Kyle Kennedy, Chris Carney and Bill Nabak as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Kennedy, Bob Galligan, Pat Galligan, Tim Galligan, Jim Nabak, Tom Nabak, Ken Nabak, Bob Nabak and Patty Doll.

Ralph C. Kennedy was born March 4, 1914, in New Hampton, IA, the son of Mathias and Anna (Demuth) Kennedy. He attended St. Joseph Catholic School, the New Hampton High School graduating in 1931, two years at Loras College and three years at the University of Iowa. He returned to New Hampton and became a partner in Sheakley & Kennedy Department Store. Ralph served in WWII as a Staff Sergeant in the 54th Medical Battalion, overseas in Africa, Sicily and Italy from August 1942 until October 1945.

On February 20, 1950, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Lawler, he married Mary Geraldine (Gerry) Galligan. To this union three children were born; Dan, Kathy and Ed. In 1957, he purchased the Sheakley interest and ran Kennedy's Department Store until his retirement on January 20, 1979. While in business, he was admired as a trusted merchant and always put the community first. He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, past president of the Chamber of Commerce where he received the “Boss of the Year 1966” award. Ralph was a volunteer at Mercy Medical Center and also delivered “Meals on Wheels”. He was a member of Holy Family Parish where he ushered for many years. He was a long-time former member of the Elks Lodge 418 in Charles City.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gerry; three children, Dan (Roxanne) Kennedy of Charles City, Kathy (Patrick) Carney of Clear Lake, Ed (Vicki) Kennedy of Edina, MN; seven grandchildren, Neil Kennedy, Kyle Kennedy, Megan (Brian) Blackwood, Nathan (Andrea) Carney, Christopher (Nichole) Carney, Matt (Jenny) Kennedy, Katie Kennedy; four great-grandchildren, Hannah and Stella Blackwood, Hudson Carney and Morgan Kennedy; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Edward, Charles, Roscoe and Walter Kennedy; two sisters-in-law, Marie Kennedy and Martha Kennedy. Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph's Catholic School Endowment Fund, Mercy Medical Center of New Hampton Auxiliary, and Multiple Sclerosis Society.


Donald R. Breitbach

Donald R. Breitbach, age 93, of New Hampton, died Monday, June 7, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am on Friday, June 11, 2010 at Holy Family Parish-St. Mary’s Center in New Hampton with Monsignor Carl Schmitt celebrating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery at New Hampton with Michael Gilson, James Breitbach, Joseph Breitbach, Gary Breitbach, Daryl Breitbach, and David Gilson serving as casket bearers.

Visitation will be on Thursday, June 10, 2010 from 4 - 8 p.m. at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in New Hampton, with a 5 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. scriptural wake service. Donald Raymond Breitbach was born on September 2, 1916 to Edward and Mabel (French) Breitbach in Independence, Iowa.  As a small boy Donald moved with his family to New Hampton, where he graduated from high school in 1934.  He was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Secrist on February 14, 1939 at Sacred Heart Rectory in Reilly Ridge.  The couple lived and farmed in the New Hampton area until they retired.  Donald continued to live on the farm until 2007 when he moved into Kensington Place.  He enjoyed reading and spending time with his family.  He was a member of Holy Family Parish-St. Mary’s Center.

Donald is survived by children, Linda (Clyde) Gilson of Torrington, Wyoming, David (Kay) Breitbach of Roseville, Minnesota, and Nancy (Robert) Pudil of La Porte City, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one sister, Ruth (Eugene) Schultz of New Hampton; one brother, Richard (Eileen) Breitbach of New Hampton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mary Ellen; one brother, Edward Breitbach; two sisters, Viola Palmersheim, and Katherine Duryee; and one son Dennis Breitbach.


Kay Joann Pacovsky

Kay Joann Pacovsky, 71, of New Hampton, died on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at her home.

Kay donated her body to Mayo Clinic School of Research.  A Private family memorial will be held at a later date.

Kay is survived by her husband Grant; her children, Jeff (Karla) Pacovsky of Fredericksburg, Iowa, Lisa (Mark) Ollendieck of Cresco, Iowa, Tracy Pacovsky of Waterloo, Iowa, and Michael (Jackie) Pacovsky of Whistler, British Columbia, Canada; seven grandchildren, Amanda (Larry), Jessica, Cody (Trista), Ashleigh (Jeff), Heather, Sadie, and Megan; one great-grandchild Mica; and one sister Diane Froelich of Galesburg, Michigan.She was preceded in death by her parents Alvin and Myra (Metz) Timm; and one sister, Elaine.

Barbara Ann Blong

Barbara Ann Blong, 54 of Waucoma, died suddenly Saturday, June 12, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center, New Hampton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Waucoma, with Rev. David Beckman celebrating the Mass. Barbara's husband and parents will place the pall. Lector for the service will be Wilma Balk. Bruce Lampe and Brenda Havens, Barbara's brother and sister, will present the offertory gifts.

Interment will be in St. Rose Cemetery, rural Waucoma, with Bobby Zeien, Gary Lampe, Artie Havens, Charles Franzen, Donny Blong and Pat Balk serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 3 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, New Hampton where there will be a 4 p.m. Rosary and 6 p.m. Scripture Service. Barbara Ann Blong

Barbara Ann Blong was born April 24, 1956, in New Hampton, Iowa the daughter of Vernon and Joanne (Parson) Lampe. She received her education in Fredericksburg and in 1974, graduated from the Fredericksburg High School. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a nurses aid.

On October 23, 1982, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Waucoma, she married Raymond Gilbert Blong. The couple operated their dairy farm together until heath became a concern in 2009 and they sold the herd. Barbara enjoyed time on the farm and loved being around the cows and calves as well as her dogs. When not working on their farm, the couple enjoyed going out to eat and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond; her parents, Vernon and Joanne Lampe of Lawler; one brother, Bruce (Betty) Lampe of Ionia; one sister, Brenda (Art) Havens of New Hampton; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents.


Harold Glen Oxendine

Harold Glen Oxendine, 61 of Charlotte, NC died Tuesday, June 15, 2010 in North Carolina.  Harold is the brother of local resident Reynolds (Marlene) Oxendine.


Raymond Frederick Boettcher

Raymond Frederick Boettcher, 95 died May 6, 2010 in Wake Robin, with his family members at his side.He was born in New Hampton, on May 20, 1914 the son of Adolph and Johannah (Christoph) Boettcher.

A circle of remembrance was held Friday, June 4, at 2:30 p.m. at Wake Robin.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Julia, and three daughters, Susan Elizabeth and her husband W. Winfield Hubley III, of Sarasota, Fla. and Wells Vt., Nancy Jane and her husband, William Heaslip of Colchester and Bolivia N.C. and Cathy Rae Young and Michael Courtney of Forest Hill Md.

Raymond D. Ball, 77 of New Hampton, died Monday, June 14, 2010, at his home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 19, 2010, at Holy Family Parish - St. Joseph Center, New Hampton. The pall will be placed by Ray's wife an children. Organist is Ann Bennett who will accompany Karen Schwickerath and the Holy Family Resurrection Choir. Lector for the service will be Roscoe McDonald. Presenting the offertory gifts will be Ray's grandchildren, Rayna Halverson, Heather Ball, Jammy Galligan and Melissa Jones. Eucharistic ministers will be Mary Wegner, Cindy and Larry Heying and Roscoe McDonald.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with Cliff Burgart, Reynold Burgart, Dave Anderson, Herb Neils, Chet Finnegan, and Virgil Munson. Honorary pallbearers will be Lawrence Jensen, William O'Neill, Gene Voss and Tom Felton. Full military honors will be conducted by the New Hampton American Legion Post #38 and V.F.W. Post 5238.

Visitation will be 3 - 8 p.m. Friday, June 18, 2010, at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, New Hampton where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and 6 p.m. scripture service. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Mass at church on Saturday.

Raymond Duane Ball was born May 11, 1933, in New Hampton, IA, the son of William Leo and Irene Annetta (Munson) Ball. He attended St. Joseph Grade School and was a 1951 graduate of the New Hampton High School. He was inducted into the US Navy on December 16, 1952 and transferred to the reserves on March 4, 1957. On June 8, 1954, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Hampton he married Joan Parks. To this union three children were born. The couple initially lived in Cedar Falls while Ray attended the University of Northern Iowa and later graduated with a B.A. Degree and a teaching certificate.

Ray and Joan moved to Tama where Ray taught for nine years as well as coached Little League, Baseball and Football. In 1970, they moved to New Hampton where Ray taught science for 28 years, retiring in 1995. While in New Hampton, Ray also coached football and baseball. Memberships included Holy Family Parish, formerly a member of the New Hampton Golf and Country Club and the Knights of Columbus. Ray enjoyed playing cards, was a huge Cubs fan and socializing with friends and family.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Joan; one daughter, Valerie Ball of Clive; one son, Thomas (Joannie) Ball of Bradenton, FL; four grandchildren, Rayna Halvorson, Jammy (Traci) Galligan, Melissa Jones and Heather Ball; three great-grandchildren, Cooper Rae Jones, Jared Galligan and Nick Kelly; four sisters, Carol (Reynold) Burgart, Marion (Cliff) Burgart, Sharon Messersmith, all of New Hampton and Judy (Darrel) Blake of Cedar Rapids; one brother, Gary (Terry) Ball of Harrison, TN; one son-in-law Harold Flatland of Cresco, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter Susan Ball on November 29, 2006.


Clarence P. Haugen Jr.

Clarence P. Haugen Jr., 81, of New Hampton, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2010 at Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph’s Center in New Hampton with Monsignor Carl Schmitt celebrating. The Lector for the service will be Virginia Manderfield.  Serving as gift bearers will be Kara and Cole Denner.  Eucharistic ministers will be Carolyn Rosauer, Virginia Manderfield, and Carmelita Rosenbaum. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Fredericksburg, Iowa.  Honorary casket bearers will be Carl Smith, Don Haugen, Spencer Johnson, Gilbert Rosenbaum, Mark McCumber, and John Mueterthies.  Serving as casket bearers will be Clarence’s grandchildren, Derek Haugen, Jon Haugen, Nicholas Haugen, Mitchell Haugen, Alexandria Burrett and Grace Burrett.

Clarence Haugen Jr. was born on July 10, 1928 to Clarence and Cora (Sanderson) Haugen on the family farm near New Hampton.  He attended country school and later helped his father on the farm.  Clarence then was employed by Rath Packing Plant in Waterloo, Iowa until he was united in marriage to Beverly Manderfield on November 25, 1954 at St. Jean Baptiste Church in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple farmed in Chickasaw County near New Hampton until 1972.  Clarence was then employed by Land-O-Lakes Feeds until his retirement in 1984.  He was employed part time by Stardell Farms until 2000.

Clarence enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s athletic events, and family gathering. His hobbies included watching baseball, collecting toy antique tractors and cars, flower gardening, bird watching, and sightseeing trips.  He was a member of Holy Family Parish in New Hampton, and New Hampton American Legion-Fae Stine Post # 38.

Clarence is survived by his children, Rick (Denise) Haugen of Fredericksburg, Roger (Lynn) Haugen of Fredericksburg, Ron (Deb) Haugen of Waukee, Iowa, Deb (Marty) Schildroth of Ames, Iowa, and Denise (John) Burrett of New Hampton; one sister, Erma (Spencer) Johnson of Fredericksburg; one brother, Don (Betty) Haugen of Waterloo; Grandchildren, Derek Haugen, Jon Haugen, Nicholas Haugen, Mitchell Haugen, Alexandria Burrett and Grace Burrett; one
great-granddaughter, Kennedi Haugen; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Beverly on May 31, 1993; one sister, Doris Haugen.

Rosemary Margaret Huffman, 85 of New Hampton, died Wednesday June 16, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center, New Hampton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday June, 21, 2010 at Holy Family Parish - St. Joseph Center with Rev. Phil Recker officiating. The pall will be placed by Rosemary’s children. Presenting the offertory gifts will be Christine Lamoureux, Annaruth Snyder, and Sherri Blazek. Lector for the service will be Joe Scally.

Rosemary Margaret Huffman
Rosemary Margaret Huffman was born June 21, 1924, in Lansing, Iowa the
daughter of Joseph and Rose (Horne) Lucey. She attended grade school at Rossville, Iowa and graduated in 1942 from the Waukon High School.

On June 26, 1946, at St. Joseph Cathedral in LaCrosse, WI Rosemary was united in marriage to Raymond Huffman. To this union six children were born. The couple lived on a farm near Rossville and moved to New Hampton in 1954. Rosemary worked for several area business’ including Ben Franklin, The Crystal Grill and retiring from J.C. Penny after 20 years. The couple, along with Ray & Lila Klenske owned the Fireman’s Theater for over 10 years. Raymond died December 4, 1994, at the age of 71.

Rosemary was a member of Holy Family Parish and Rosary Society, pool and bowling leagues, and the Legion Auxiliary where she served as president.

Survivors include four sons, Mark (Anne) Huffman of Atlanta, GA, Mike (Donna) Huffman of Waterloo, IA, Dan (Sue) Huffman and John Huffman all of New Hampton; one daughter, Pat (Dennis) Ruffridge of Cresco, IA; one son-in-law, Dick Recker of New Hampton; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one brother, Tom (Nancy) Lucey of Milwaukee; one sister, Jo Ann Heminghous of Austin, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parent; her husband, Raymond; one daughter, Peg Recker on February 14, 1999; one son-in-law, Dan Schwickerath; three brothers, Francis, Bill, and Jack Lucey.


Gail A. Yamry

Gail A. Yamry, 59 of Elma, formerly of Minneapolis, MN died on Friday, June 18, 2010 at her home in Elma.

Margaret Viola Conry was born on March 21, 1932 to William and Frances (Schultz) Nelson in Charles City, Iowa.  Margaret was a graduate of Immaculate Conception School in Charles City.  She was united in marriage to Dale Conry on July 3, 1951 at Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City.  The couple lived on the family farm near New Hampton until moving into New Hampton in 1975.  Margaret was employed by Liddle’s Super Valu for many years.  She retired from Beatrice Foods in Fredericksburg, Iowa.  She was a member of Holy Family Parish-St. Mary’s Center.  Margaret loved to bake, and playing cards. She enjoyed crafts, watching birds and wildlife. But most of all, Margaret loved her family.  

Margaret is survived by her children, Diane (Dave) Mix, of Rochester, Minnesota, and Joanne (Kipp) Jones, of New Hampton; four grandchildren, Brenda Jo (Brad) Musel, Scott (Niki) Mix, Michelle (Tim) Pleggenkuhle, and Kipp William (Mandy) Jones; 14great-grandchildren; two brothers, Billy (Marie) Nelson, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Johnny (Kathy) Nelson, of Thompson, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale on December 23, 1989, one son, and three daughters in infancy; and one brother, Tom Nelson.


Lowell “Pete” Hereid

Lowell “Pete” Hereid, age 79 of New Hampton, died Sunday, June 27, 2010, at New Hampton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at the Jerico Lutheran Church, Jerico with Rev. Daniel Larson officiating. Nadine Schumacher will be the organist leading the congregation in song with "I Am But A Stranger Here", "Beautiful Stranger" and "Now The Day Is Over". Rev. Daniel Larson will sing, "The Lord's Prayer".

Interment will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Saude with Joel Knutson, Nathan Schmitt, Spencer Schmitt, Theresa Knutson, Victoria Knutson, and Melinda Knutson serving as pallbearers. Full military honors will be conducted by the Alta Vista VFW Post #4069, the New Hampton VFW Post #5238, American Legion Post #38, and the Iowa Military Funeral Honors Unit.

Lowell “Pete” Harvey Hereid

Lowell “Pete” Harvey Hereid was born September 19, 1930, in rural Chickasaw County, Iowa on the Frank Vsetecka farm, the son of Ingval Syvrine and Clara Andrena (Johnson). He attended grade school in Chickasaw County at the Five Corners Country School. He was also a 1949, graduate of the New Hampton High School.

In October of 1951, Pete was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in the Korean War from 1951 until 1953, part of the Third Infantry Division. During his time in Korea, he was promoted to Corporal.

On August 9, 1953, Pete was united in marriage to Marilyn Cutsforth at the Jerico Lutheran Church. On February 28, 1972, Marilyn died due to complications with diabetes. On January 13, 1979, he was united in marriage to Mavis (Johnson) Knutson at the Jerico Lutheran Church.

Pete worked his whole life as a farmer, raising livestock and milking cows until his retirement in 2002. He was a lifetime member of the New Hampton VFW Post 5238 and the Alta Vista VFW Post 4069. His hobbies included pheasant hunting, fishing, feeding gold finches, raising Brittany Spaniels, playing cards, and visiting with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Mavis; one step daughter-in-law, Ann Knutson of New Hampton; one step daughter, Karen (Mark) Schmitt of New Hampton; five step grandchildren, Joel (Theresa) Knutson, Victoria Knutson, Melinda Knutson, Nathan Schmitt, and Spencer Schmitt all of New Hampton; three sisters, Anna (Art) Borlaug of New Hampton, Ada (Mike) Engstrom of Prairie De Chien, WI, and Orreann Hereid of Edina, MN; one brother, Paul (Lucy) Hereid of New Hampton; one sister-in-law, Hazel Hereid of New Hampton; one brother-in-law, Dale (Pat) Cutsforth of AR; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Marilyn; a stepson, Danny in 1997; four brothers, Carlton Hereid, Oliver Donald Hereid, Merle Hereid, and Harold Hereid in infancy.


Virgil N. Zubrod
Virgil N. Zubrod, 87 of Nashua died Saturday evening, June 26, 2010, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 1, 2010, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Rev. Carl Ries celebrating. Interment will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery with military rites by the Nashua V.F.W.

Visitation will be 3 – 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, Nashua with a 4 p.m. rosary. Visitation continues 9 – 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Virgil was born March 9, 1923, near Alta Vista, the son of William and Christine (Mishak) Zubrod. He received his education in rural country school. Virgil served during WWII in the U.S. Navy as a motor machinist third class.

January of 1946, in San Diego, California, Virgil was united in marriage to Margaret Glaser. Virgil farmed in Floyd County and worked at the former Oliver Corporation for 31 years.

Survivors include three sons, James Zubrod, Glen (Susan) Zubrod, all of Nashua and Lynn Zubrod of Norfolk, VA; one daughter, Joan (Arnold) Ballew of Edmund, OK; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; four brothers, Orville (Velma) Zubrod of Alta Vista, Melvin (Agnes) Zubrod of Garrison, MN, Robert Zubrod of Allyn, WA and Bill (Margaret) Zubrod of New Hampton; one sister, Madonna Taylor of Marion.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife Margaret on September 25, 1964.
