Kenneth Leo Lines

Kenneth Leo Lines, 93 of Nashua, died Monday, March 29, at his home.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 5, at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, Nashua.

Interment will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City, with Stephen Lines, David Bonzer, Bruce Winkelman, Rob Bond, Steve Minikus and Cody Austin serving as pallbearers. Jared Minikus will be an honorary pallbearer.

Friends may call 3 - 7 p.m. Sunday, April 4, at Hugeback and Chenoweth Funeral home in Nashua. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. 

Kenneth Leo Lines was born December 16, 1916, in West St. Charles Township, Floyd County, the son of Archie Charles and Bertha Pauline (Hobert) Lines. He received his education in rural country schools and attended the Nashua High School.

On August 28, 1940, Kenneth married Josephine Lambert. The couple adopted two children together, David and Janice. They later divorced. On March 4, 1954, in Austin, MN, he married Valeda R. Winkelman. Kenneth and Valeda farmed together in the Nashua area for many years. Kenneth also did some carpentry and plumbing work as well as custom farming.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Valeda; one son, Paul (Christi) Lines of Nashua; one daughter, Gloria (Richard) Wyborny of Charles City; one adopted son; David (Nancy) Lines of Canyonville, OR; one adopted daughter, Janice (Paul) Hantleman of Hopkins, MN; eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; a son-in-law; Larry Bunston of Ionia; one brother, Guy Lines of Charles City; one half-sister, Beldyne Ferch of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Donna Mae (Bonzer) Bunston; three brothers, Volna Lines, Clifford Lines and Russell Bean; one sister, Helen Goetsch.

Florence Deutsch

Florence Deutsch, 94 of Shell Rock, formerly of New Hampton, died Tuesday evening, March 30, at the Shell Rock HealthCare Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Monday April 5, at Holy Family Parish, St. Mary's Center in New Hampton with Monsignor Carl Schmitt officiating. The pall will be placed by her four children. Lectors for the service will be Tom Deutsch and Julie Wendl. Granddaughters Kelli Schnurrl, Allison Rojek, and Shawna Kurth will present the offertory gifts.

Interment will be in St Mary's Cemetery, New Hampton with grandsons Jeff Schmidt, Joel Schmidt, Jake Schmidt, Matt Deutsch, David Deutsch, Josh Deutsch and Brian Schnurr serving as pallbearers.

Visitation is 4 - 7 p.m. Sunday April 4 at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, New Hampton where there will be a 6:30 p.m. Scripture Service. Further visitation will be 8:30 - 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Florence was born on a farm north of Elma, Iowa on October 6, 1915, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Mashek) Diesburg. She attended Immaculate Conception School in Elma, the Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls and Mercy College, Cedar Rapids, receiving her teaching degree. Florence taught in the rural schools of Howard County for seven years.

On September 23, 1941, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elma, she married Carl Deutsch. To this union, four children were born. The couple farmed northwest of New Hampton for 50 years before moving into New Hampton in 1989. Carl died on October 9, 1997, at the age of 82. In 2006, due to her failing health, Florence moved to The Meadows and the Shell Rock Health Care Center in Shell Rock to be near family. Florence was a member of Holy Family Parish, the Rosary Society, and the Country Neighbor’s Club.

Survivors include two sons, Leroy (Bonnie) Deutsch of Vinton and Leon (Linda) Deutsch of Wadena; two daughters, Mary (Larry) Schnurr of Mason City, Carol Deutsch-Schmidt of Rockford, IL; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and step-mother Helen Diesburg of Elma.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Willard Diesburg, Clarence Diesburg and Mark Diesburg; a half-sister; Connie (Diesburg) Batt.


Leonard Kristiansen

Leonard Kristiansen, 85, of Nashua, died April 1, at the Floyd County Medical Center Hospice Unit, Charles City after a 14-year extended illness.

Services for Leonard Kristiansen are Tuesday, April 6, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Nashua.

Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua, with military graveside rites conducted by the Nashua VFW Post 6792.

Friends may call at the Hugeback-Chenoweth Funeral Home, Nashua from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 5 and for an hour before the services at the church. 641-435-4134.


Darrell D. Weigand

Darrell D. Weigand, 83 of Charles City, formerly of Nashua, died Sunday April 4, at Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles City.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday April 7, at St. John Lutheran Church, Nashua with Paster Tom Hagen officiating.

Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua.

Visitation is 4 - 7 p.m. Tuesday April 6 at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, Nashua. Further visitation will be one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.

William “Bill” D. Wilder, 81 of Nashua, died Monday April 5, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, MN.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 9, at Hugeback and Chenoweth Funeral Home, Nashua with interment in Oak Hill Cemetery, Nashua.

Elden W. Eichmann, 90, of Waverly, died Saturday, April 10, at his home in Waverly.

A Memorial Service is 11 a.m. Thursday, April 22,  at Trinity United Methodist Church, Waverly.

According to his wishes his body has been donated to the University of Iowa. There will be no visitation prior to the memorial service.

Donna Mae Swehla


Donna Mae Swehla, 81, of New Hampton, died at her home of natural causes.

Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 13, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, New Hampton, with Monsignor Carl Schmidt officiating.  Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Alta Vista.

Visitation will be on Monday, April 12, from 6 to 8 p.m., with a scripture service at 7 p.m. at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home, New Hampton. Donna Schumacher was born on October 17, 1928, in Fredericksburg, the daughter of Albert and Clyta (Schroeder) Schumacher.  She was united in marriage to Donald Swehla on October 23, 1951.  Donna was a school teacher for a period of 20+ years.  She also worked as a dispatcher for the Chickasaw Sheriff’s office for 10+ years.  Donna took great pride as a volunteer and supporter for the Chickasaw Senior Centre for many years.  She is a member of the Holy Family Parish.

Donna enjoyed polka festivals, sharing dessert with friends, crocheting, playing cards, travel, crossword puzzles, and her grandchildren.

Donna is survived by her one daughter, Sharon K. Swehla-Schuurmans and her husband Franck Schuurmans of Madison, WI; two sons, James E., his wife Gina, and daughter Nicole of Springfield, IL, and Dale J., his wife Mary, and three children Matthew, Sheena, and Natalie of Waterloo; one brother Wayne Schumacher and his wife Nadine of New Hampton.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and her husband Donald Swehla on January 9, 1990.
Clarence L. Lamka

Clarence Lloyd Lamka, 91, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, April 14, at Cedar Valley Hospice, Waterloo, of natural causes.

Funeral Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 17, at Hillcrest Baptist Brethren Church, Fredericksburg, with Pastor Ronald Pinckney officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg.

Clarence was born September 2, 1918 at Williamstown, the son of Fred and Louise (Schmidt) Lamka. He attended school west of Fredericksburg and then graduated from Frederika High School in 1938.  After graduation he worked on a farm east of Nashua.  He was a veteran of the United States Army having fought in the Battle of the Bulge in the European Theater of Operation.  He was honorably discharged in 1945.  Clarence was united in marriage to Wilma Averhoffon August 24, 1947 at the Congregational Church in Nashua.  The couple moved east of New Hampton to their 22 acre farm where their three children David, Randy and Connie were born.  In 1955 the family moved south of Williamstown to Clarence’s grandparents’ farm where they resided until purchasing the “LamkaCentury Farm” in 1960 where he farmed for 13 years before working at The Kitchens of Sara Lee.  After returning home from the service Clarence was employed at Longhorn Electric for seven years, and also drove a Standard Oil gas truck.  He retired in 1984 due to an accident in 1981. Clarence has been a member of Hillcrest Baptist Brethren Church in Fredericksburg since 1976.

Clarence is survived by his wife of 62 years and three children, David (Judy) Lamka of Marion, Randy Lamka of New Hampton, and Connie Lamka of New Orleans, LA; two grandchildren Jeffery (Erin) Lamka, and Nicolas Lamka both of Marion; and two great-grandchildren Peyton, and Carter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Laurel Lamka; and one nephew Darryl Lamka.


Lyle C. Stolfus


Lyle Cecil Stolfus 73 of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, April 14, at his home.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday, April 19,  at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Fredericksburg with Hugh Mackintosh officiating. Special CD selections will be "I'm But A Stranger Here" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic".

Pallbearers are Kevin Ward, Denny Ungs, LeRoy Wilkes, Dan Feller, Scott Truax and Chad Holtzman. Military honors will be conducted by the Fredericksburg AMVETS.

Lyle was born November 25, 1936, in New Hampton, the son of Herbert “Barney” and Ella Mae (Ingalls) Stolfus. He received his education in New Hampton and attended the New Hampton High School. He served in the United States Air Force for five years, having been stationed in Germany, Iceland and Africa. He was honorably discharged on February 14, 1962.

Lyle worked many years in Waterloo where he also owned Lyle’s Imports. He was later a self-employed mechanic in Fredericksburg for 21 years and a member of the Fredericksburg AMVETS. On July 30, 1988, he married Helen Mary Kilcher. The couple made their home in Fredericksburg. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, building and inventing things. If it was broken, Lyle could fix it.

Survivors include his wife, Helen; five daughters, Sue (Dan) Feller of Waterloo, Denise (Scott) Truax of LaPorte City, Lila (Kevin) Ward of Scottsdale, AZ, Debbie (LeRoy) Wilkes of Waterloo and Marnie (Chad) Holtzman of Cedar Falls; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Lowell (Linda) Stolfus and Richard (Diane) Stolfus, all of New Hampton, Eddie (Val) Stolfus of Sumner; two sisters, Darise (Jim) Donat of Maynard, IA and Janice Hesse of Sumner; two step-sons, Bill Kilcher and Don Kilcher both of Fredericksburg; six step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Herbert Stolfus and Loren Stolfus; one brother-in-law, LaVern Hesse.

Robert "Bob" Gebel


Robert "Bob" Gebel, 80 of Lawler, died Sunday April 18, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo.

A Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 21, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Lawler with Rev. David Beckman officiating. The pall will be placed on the casket bis his wife and sons. Lector for the service will be Sally Yungtum. Ranae Huinker will be the organist accompanying Sherri Achen, vocalist. Presenting the offertory gifts will be Leah Gebel, Lissa Nemecek, Kelly Novak and Megan Gebel.

Burial will be in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery, Lawler with Matt Gebel, Randy Novak, Cory Gebel, Travis Gebel, Adam Gebel and Sid Gebel serving as pallbearers. Military honors will be conducted by the Harold Redman Post 279, Lawler.

Visitation is 3 - 8 p.m. Tuesday April 20, at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, New Hampton where there will be a 4 p.m. Rosary and a 6 p.m. Scripture Service. Robert Francis “Bob” Gebel was born March 13, 1930, on the Gebel Family Farm, northeast of Ionia, the son of Frank and Helen (Schwickerath) Gebel. He received his education in rural country schools and in Lawler. On November 1, 1951, he was inducted into the United States Army where he served as a corporal and was honorably discharged on October 1, 1953. On October 20, 1953, at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Festina, he married Rita Gossling. To this union nine children were born. The couple farmed north of Lawler from 1953 until retiring in 1998. He enjoyed fishing and hunting but especially enjoyed time he was able to spend with his grandchildren. During retirement he enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and growing flowers.

Survivors include his wife, Rita; five sons, John Gebel of Protivin, Mike Gebel, Bill (Diane) Gebel, Dan (Jodie) Gebel, Martin (Darlene) Gebel, all of Lawler; three daughters, Helen Novak (Scott Olson) of Cresco, LaVonne (Doug) Kahler of Coralville, Linda Gebel of Dundee; thirteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Francis (Darlene) Gebel, Joseph (Diana) Gebel, all of Lawler; six sisters, Marilyn (James) Leibold, Lucille (Francis) Reicks, all of Lawler, Leona Kriener of Cresco, Doris Balik of Protivin, Jean Hageman of Decorah, Loretta (Tuffy Blue) Kleve of Waucoma.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Arthur John Gebel in 1986 and a brother, LeRoy Gebel.


Henry L. Rabe

Henry L. Rabe, 95, of New Hampton, died Monday, April 19, at Allen Hospital. Waterloo.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 am on Friday, April 23, at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Hampton. Burial will be at New Hampton Cemetery, New Hampton with Nathan Rabe, Corey Pester, Jim Rogers, Bill Zwanziger, Ralph Beck and Charles Speicher serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Henry’s Grandchildren, Aubre Rabe, Kerri Tuschel, Paula Elenz, Brett Pester, Steven Donohue, Michael Donohue, Randy Schmitt and Gary Schmitt.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 22, at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home, New Hampton. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday. 

Henry Louis Rabe was born on March 28, 1915 to William and Emma (Albers) Rabe on the family farm south of New Hampton. Hank graduated from New Hampton High School in 1932. After his graduation Hank farmed with his father and later took over the farm operation. On April 13, 1941 Hank was united in marriage to Shirley Schoonover at Friedens Evangelical Church in Fredericksburg. The couple farmed the family farm south of New Hampton where Hank presently resided. He was on the ASCS County Committee for ten years, Farmers Coop Board for twelve years, Country School Board for twelve years, township assessor, township trustee, election board for many years. Along with farming Hank operated a custom corn sheller for 30 years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton, IA.

He enjoyed playing cards, collecting glass ware and dishes. Hank enjoyed breeding and showing draft horses.

Henry is survived by his three sons Richard Rabe of Forest Lake, MN, Dennis (Sharon) Rabe of Chester, NH and David Rabe of New Hampton; two daughters Sheila Pester and Linda (Larry) Schmitt both of New Hampton; two sisters Mae Rogers of New Hampton and Minnie Zwanziger of Janesville; ten grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents; wife Shirley; one son Kurt; one grandson Scott Rabe; one great grandson Jeremy Elenz; one brother William; six sisters Bertha Rabe, Louise Beck, Alma Pietan, Emma Hagedorn, Edna Schmidt and Ella Fredrickson.

Jason J. Loes

Jason J. Loes, age 35 of New Hampton, died Monday, April 19, in car accident near New Hampton.

Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 23, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Alta Vista, with Monsignor Carl Schmitt as celebrant.  Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Alta Vista with Scott Erion, Cory Ball, Ryan Loes, Chad Davis, Neil Schumann, Chris, Mitch and Shawn Ostlund serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be all of Jason’s friends and those he was a “Big” cousin to.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 22, at the Chickasaw Centre, New Hampton with a scriptural wake service at 4:30 pm. Jason John Loes was born on August 20, 1974 to Brian and Marjorie (Tolliver) Loes in New Hampton. Jason graduated from New Hampton High School in 1992. He worked in construction for several years and later Dungey’s Furniture. Jason was employed by Hometown TV & Appliance for seven years and was presently employed at Smitty’s Tire & Appliance in Cedar Falls.

Jason enjoyed socializing with everyone he met, golf, pool league, the Iowa Hawkeyes, playing euchre and poker, the Chicago Cubs and Washington Redskins, music and movies. Jason thoroughly enjoyed life.

Jason is survived by his parents Brian and Marjorie Loes of Mason City; one brother Cory (Krystal) Loes of Holly Springs, NC; fiancé Michelle Meyer of New Hampton; Paternal grandparents John and Mary Kay Loes of Alta Vista; Maternal Grandpa Walter Kobliska of Charles City; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his sister Bridget Loes; maternal grandfather Virgil Tolliver and maternal grandmother Norma Kobliska.

 


Patricia Ann Ondrashek

Patricia Ann Ondrashek, 69 of New Hampton, died Thursday, April 22,  at her home.

A Memorial Mass was 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 26, at Holy Family Parish - St. Joseph Center, New Hampton with Monsignor Carl Schmitt celebrating the Mass. Lector for the service will be Sandy Reicks. Ann Bennett will be the organist accompanying Mike Carlin, cantor and the Holy Family Resurrection Choir. Presenting the offertory gifts will be Pat's grandchildren.

Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery, New Hampton with Pat's five grandchildren as honorary pallbearers.

Friends may greeted the family 3 - 8 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, New Hampton, where there was a 4 p.m. rosary and a 6 p.m. scripture service. Patricia was born June 14, 1940, in Lawler, the daughter of Louis and Elizabeth (Balk) Blong. She received her education in Lawler, graduating from high school there in 1958. On June 8, 1959, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Lawler, she married Norbert Ondrashek. To this union four children were born. Pat worked for 24 years at Sara Lee in New Hampton, retiring in 1997. Norbert Ondrashek died on June 17, 2006, at the age of 69. In her free time Pat enjoyed her flower garden and spending time with family.

Survivors include three daughters, Arlene (Joe) Kuhn of New Hampton, Lorene (Jeff) Reeves of Waterloo, Judy Ondrashek of Alta Vista; one son, Steven Ondrashek of Ft. Collins, CO; five grandchildren, Paula Earles, Jim Kuhn, Dennis Brandenburg, Randy Mai and Desarae Heying; two step-grandchildren, Breanna and Jacob Reeves; four great-grandchildren, Sadie Songer, Hanah Earles, Kaylee Songer and Josie Earles; two sisters, Mary Gebel of New Hampton, Edna (Ardwin) Reicks of Lawler; two brothers, Cyril Blong of Milwaukee, Cletus Blong of Elma; one sister-in-law, Rosalin Ondrashek of Lawler.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, Louis Blong, Jr.; one sister, Arlene Blong.
