Richard Savoy
March 9, 2011
Richard "Dick" Savoy, 76, of Britt, died on Tuesday, March 1,
2011, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.
Visitation will be held
from 5:30-7:30 p.m., on Thursday, March 10, at the Ewing
Funeral Chapel in Britt. A private family
service will be held at a later date.
Richard Thomas Savoy,
known to most as Dick, was born on June 29, 1934 in Winona,
Minnesota, to Alzier and Marie (Nepper) Savoy. Dick grew up in
Morrisonville, Wisconsin and attended college in Madison, Wisconsin. Dick excelled in athletics
both in school and in the army. He participated in all
sports, but he particularly loved gymnastics, football and
throwing the hammer in track. Dick enlisted in the Army
in 1955 and was stationed in Bamberg, Germany, where he met
the love of his life - Helga. Corporal Richard T. Savoy was
honorably discharged in 1963. Dick and Helga married in De
Forest, Wisconsin and made their home in Britt in 1963.
Dick enjoyed hunting in
his younger years, especially with his boys. He also had
great pride in each of his seven grandchildren. His work
installing carpet, his sense of humor and his friendliness
gave Dick the opportunity to know most folks in the area.
Five years ago Dick lost most of his vision; however, he
never complained, but it bothered him that he could not
recognize and greet his many acquaintances.
Those lucky to share in
his life are his wife of 52 years, Helga; sons, Thomas (Rita)
Savoy of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Henry (Shelly) Savoy of Clear
Lake and Steven (Roxanne) Savoy of Britt; his loving
grandchildren, Betsey, Daniel, Kaitlyn, Hannah, Alicia,
Brookelyn and Jordan; his brothers, Ron (Joann) and Don
(Barbara) Savoy; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death
were
his mother and father; and his brothers, Nicholas, James and
Phillip Savoy. |
