J. C. "Swede" Blackburn, 99

December 19, 2001

J. C. "Swede" Blackburn, 99, of Britt, passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2001, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, December 13, at 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Britt with Pastor Robert Dodge officiating.

He is survived by two daughters, Jo Tolley of Cape May, New Jersey and Beverlee Burnet of Britt who has made her home with Swede for the last 20 years; his brother, Ralph; his sister, Nina and husband, Vearl Jensen of Hastings, Nebraska; one sister-in-law, Maxine Thomsen of Springfield, Missouri; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three nieces, Sue Shreck of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jeanne and Dick Foote of Reeds Spring, Missouri and Judy and Jim Vokac of Oak Brook, Illinois; and two nephews, Don and Pat Holt and Jim and Laurie Holt of Omaha, Nebraska.

Aldean Shipman, 75

January 9, 2002

Aldean Shipman, 75, of Corwith, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 28, 2001.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, December 30, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Corwith, with Rev. Ron Feuerhak officiating.

Aldean is survived by eight children, Jackie Harle of Sheffield, Truday (Ron) Cook of Beloit, Wisconsin, Ramona Shipman of Perry, Brad (Mary) Shipman of Van Meter, Sara (Wyatt) Earp of Waukee, Tonya (Dan) Butler of Aitkin, Minnesota, Wade (Pam) Shipman of Fayette, Alabama and Angela (David) Anliker of Perry; one sister, Mrs. Bud (Lucille) Hoveland of Clarion; 26 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Edward R. Godfredson, 75

January 9, 2002

Edward Ray Godfredson, 75, of Britt, passed away on Friday, December 28, 2001, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Graveside services were held on Thursday, January 3, at the Harrison Township Cemetery in Swea City, Iowa, with Pastor Wendi Gillan officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; a son, Eugene Nels Godfredson and his wife, Pauline of Crawfordsville, Iowa; two daughters, Sandy Rose Easterday and her husband, Neil of Jewell and Barbara Ann Harding and her husband, Gregg of North Branch, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, Cecil Eugene Godfredson of Armstrong.

Dean E. McAfee, 75

January 9, 2002

Dean E. McAfee, 75, of Garner, died on Friday, December 28, 2001, at his home.

His memorial service was held on Saturday, January 5, at 2:00 p.m., at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Garner, with the Rev. Fr. Michael Schueller officiating. Interment was in the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Garner. Military rites were conducted by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Dean is survived by his wife, Carol of Garner; five children, Tim McAfee and wife, Jan of Overland Park, Kansas, Tom McAfee of Colleyville, Texas, Terry McAfee and wife, Stacy of Sacramento, California, Becky Hejlik and husband, John of Britt and Brenda Swaim and husband, Chuck of Ames; nine grandchildren, Andrea Hejlik, Allison Hejlik, Amber Hejlik, Matthew Swaim, Jessica Swaim, Sean McAfee, Seamus McAfee, Nicholas McAfee and Alexander McAfee;

He is also survived by two brothers, Don McAfee and wife, Shirley of Mason City and Dale McAfee and wife, Theony of Cheyenne, Wyoming; three sisters, Wilma Mordhorst and husband, Al of Arkansas, Audrey Anderson and husband, Robert of Ankeny and Margaret Baldridge of Centralia, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.

Doris E. Stearns, 83

January 9, 2002

Doris E. Stearns, 83, of Britt, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2001, at the Muse Norris Hospice Unit in Mason City.

Following cremation, interment will be held in the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt at a later date.

Doris was born on November 25, 1918 at Mason City, the daughter of Clay and Lena (Ellingson) Mick.

She is survived by one brother, Charles E. Mick of Burlingame, California.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Stearns.
