Ruth Kemp, 97

March 28, 2001

Ruth Kathryn Kemp, 97, of Britt, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at the Westview Care Center in Britt.

Her funeral was held on Monday, March 26, at the Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt, with Pastor Susan Detwiler officiating. Burial will take place in the Sunnyside Memorial Gardens in Charles City.

Ruth is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Edna Hovey, 77

March 28, 2001

Edna Mae Hovey, 77, passed away on Saturday, March 24, 2001, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 28, at the Regular Baptist Church in Algona, with Pastor Stan Manus officiating. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Wesley.

Edna is survived by her children, Claire Hovey and wife, Sara, DeWayne Hovey and wife, Helen, all of Algona, Darwin Hovey and wife, Carol of New Hampton, Larry Hovey and wife, Deb of Garner, Karlene Steenhard and husband, Craig of Corwith and Marlene Haack and husband, David of Bancroft.

Also surviving are 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Maxine McIntosh of Salem, Oregon.

Bernice Eisenman, 88

April 4, 2001

Bernice Jennie Eisenman, 88, of Britt, passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

A celebration of Bernice's life was held on Saturday, March 31, at the Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt, led by Lenora Kiley. Internment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at a later date.

Bernice is survived by one daughter, Cynthia Jane Eisenman of Papillion, Nebraska; one son, Harold Willard Eisenman of Mason City; four grandchildren, Julie and Ed Duran of Cedar Rapids, Pam and Al Winter of Clarion, Monica and Jeff Oetker of Marshalltown and Andrew Eisenman of Mason City; seven great-grandchildren, Paige, Jesse, Amanda, Jacob, Katie, Brady and Megan; two sisters-in-law, Florine Riehm of Garner and Mildred Nall of Scottsdale, Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard Arends, 87

April 4, 2001

Richard L. Arends, 87, of Kanawha, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2001, at the Belmond Medical Center in Belmond.

Funeral services were held on Monday, April 2, at the United Methodist Church in Kanawha, with Pastor Susan Detwiler officiating. Burial was in the Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jennie; two daughters, Dawn Marlene Zeigler and husband, Lyle of Kanawha and Joyce Elaine Pogge and husband, Kenneth of Kanawha; seven grandchildren, Katherine Olmstead and husband, Ron, Dennis Zeigler and wife, Barbara, Doug Zeigler and wife, Janice, Lori Jones and husband, Jeffery, Danny Zeigler and wife, Pam, Jay Pogge and wife, Daphne and Lyn Candor and husband, Todd; 16 great-grandchildren, Amy, Bryan and Krista Olmstead, Aaron and Melissa Zeigler, Joshua and Justin Zeigler, Jonathan and Jennifer Jones, Jaime Zeigler, Ashley, Lindsey and Zachary Pogge, Tyler, Kendall and Keaton Candor; one sister, Lena Van Dusseldorp of Sheffield; and several nieces and nephews.

Lois LaVonne Schweertmann, 62

April 11, 2001

Lois LaVonne Schweertmann, 62, of Collins, died on Thursday, March 29, 2001, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, from complications of cancer.

A memorial service was held on Monday, April 2, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg, with Pastor Troy Pflibsen officiating. Graveside services will be held at a later date.

She is survived by her husband, Ed Schweertmann; two sons, Scott Schweertmann of Story City and Craig Waldera; one daughter, Jan Kline and her husband, John of Roland; one sister, Marian Dalland and her husband, Merle of Owatonna, Minnesota; one brother, Robert Bedford of Britt; and eight grandchildren.
