Kay
L. Lee, age 54, of Leland, died on Thursday, September 2, 2010,
at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday,
September 4, at the Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Leland,
Iowa.
Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m., on Friday, September
3, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in
Forest City and will continue an hour prior to the services at
the church.
Inurnment will be in the Forest Home Cemetery in Leland at a
later date.
Kay Louise Lee, was born in Britt, Iowa on December 9, 1955,
the daughter of Wallace and Beverly (Potter) Larson. She
graduated from the Forest City High School.
On July 3, 1987, Kay was united in marriage to Roger Lee in
Forest City. The couple made their home in Leland.
Kay was one of the kindest, most gentle, loving person you
will ever meet. She did not say anything bad about anyone
and knew just what to say to make you feel special. She
loved her “Baby Love’s” which was her dog Sandy for 16 years
and currently Baxter. She enjoyed being outside and soaking
up the sun, looking at her trees, and listening to the birds
sing. She liked just being at home with Roger and watching
the Hallmark Channel. She also loved the frequent telephone
conversations with daughter, Jennifer and the visits from
Lisa.
Kay worked at Winnebago Stitchcraft for 34 years. She was a
lead and loved talking charge of Friday lunches for the
department. She was involved with the Our Saviors Lutheran
Church in Leland, teaching Sunday School for many years and
also was a Sunday School Superintendent. Her belief in and
love of Angels was very present in her home. She also like
to talk about Jesus.
Kay passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Muse
Norris Hospice in Mason City with her husband Roger,
daughters Jennifer and Lisa and sister, Barbara by her side.
She is survived by her husband, Roger; daughters, Jennifer
Hansen and fiancée, Terry of Mosinee, Wisconsin and Lisa Hansen and
fiancée, Jesse of Crystal Lake;
her mother, Beverly Larson of Forest City; brother,
Stephen Larson and wife, Opal of DeKalb, Illinois; sister,
Barbara Wilson and husband, Mark of Battlefield, Missouri;
granddaughters, Marlee Kay O’Toole and Hailey; grandson,
Hunter; nephews, Dylan and Nicklys Larson, Matthew and
Michael Wilson; and niece, Anna Larson.
Kay was proceeded in death by her father, Wallace Larson; and
her sister-in-law, Kriss Larson.

Frances L. T. "Fran"
Christiansen, 67, of Lake Mills, died on Thursday, September 2,
2010, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason
City.
Funeral services were
held on
Tuesday, September 7, at the Salem Lutheran Church in Lake
Mills. Burial was in the North Shellrock Cemetery in
rural Northwood.

Harry M. Cox
September 15, 2010
Harry M. Cox, 63, of
Winterset, died on Sunday, September 5, 2010, surrounded by his
loving family, at the Winterset Care Center North, after a
short battle with cancer.
Funeral services were
held on Wednesday, September 8, at the Ochiltree Funeral Service
& Aftercare in Winterset. Burial was in the Union Chapel
Cemetery, near St. Charles, with military honors
performed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8142 and
the
American Legion Post 184, both of Winterset.
Harry was born on April
23, 1947 in Madison County, Iowa, to Lee and Joan (Janes)
Cox. He spent his childhood in Dayton, Iowa and
graduated in 1965 from the Dayton High School. After high
school, he joined the National Guard and served in the
United States Army. Later, he joined his family in
Winterset where he lived, with the exception of 11 years
when he resided in Loveland, Colorado, where he loved to be.
He retired in 2009 from McAninch as a heavy equipment
operator. He was a member of the Operators Union Local
#234 of Des Moines.
Anyone who knew him
would agree he was a gentle, kind, selfless man who was
giving and loyal.
Harry is survived by
his mother, Joan Cox of Winterset; his son, Shane Cox
and wife, Renee of Forest City; five grandchildren,
Parker, Ayden, Lani, Whitney, and Alexa; two brothers,
Gene (Janelle) Cox and Marvin (Denise) Cox, both of
Winterset; a sister, Dixie Grimes of Des Moines; and many
nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
He was preceded in
death by his father, Lee Cox.

Sharon A. Lett
September 15, 2010
Sharon A. Lett, 75, of
Plano, Illinois, died on Thursday, September 9, 2010, at the Edward
Hospital in Naperville, Illinois.
Funeral services were held
at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, September 13, at the Larson-Nelson
Funeral Home in Plano, Illinois. Interment
followed in the Oak Mound Cemetery in Somonauk, Illinois.
Sharon was born on September 4,
1935 in Algona, Iowa, the daughter of John and Flona (Schoepf)
Trail. Sharon was united in
marriage on August 20, 1956 in Forest City, to Mr. Ray Lett
and they spent the next 54 happy years together. She was a
loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend
who will be deeply missed.
Sharon worked as a home
economics teacher at the Serena High School in Serena,
Illinois and
was a member of the Kendall County Farm Bureau. She
researched and edited her husband's published book, "Patriot
Rebel". She was also employed as
the executive assistant to the director of personnel at
George Washington University. From 1982 thru 1985, she led
the Christian Women's Fellowship Group in Washington, D.C.
Sharon presided over the Subcabinet Wives Fellowship and the
USDA Agriculture Administrator's Wives Groups during the
Reagan Administration. Her leadership skills culminated in
Sharon directing the First Farm Women's People to People and
Foreign Agricultural Service Farm Tour of Europe in 1984.
She is survived by her
husband, Raymond Lett of Plano, Illinois; her children, Ann Grandquist of Omaha, Nebraska, David (Karen) Lett of Pana,
Illinois and Shelley (John) Raymond of Jacksonville, Florida; her
grandchildren, Josh and Zach Grandquist; Olivia, Charley
Ann, Sydney and Christian Lett; J.T., Jack and Joey Raymond;
sister-in-law, Esther Trail of St. Paul,
Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, John and Flona Trail; two sisters, Ruby
Irene and Margary Carmen Trail, both in infancy; and her
brother, Dr. Orval Trail.

Marlin Fisher
September 22, 2010
Marlin Fisher, age 95, of Thompson, died at the Hancock County
Memorial Hospital in Britt, on Sunday, September 12, 2010.
Funeral services
were held on Sunday, September 19, at the United Methodist
Church in Thompson, with Pastor Shannon Pascual officiating.
Burial followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Thompson.
Survivors include his
children, Merry Fisher, Carroll (Theresa) Fisher, Linda (Don)
Stevens, Tom Carmody (Mary Kiesau), Laurie (Joe) Farnen and
Kathleen (John) Nettleton; grandchildren, Curt (Jenn)
Ratcliff, Tucker (Sara) Stevens, Christopher Stevens, Sam
and Jack Farnen, Thomas and Emily Nettleton; and
great-grandchild, Reese Rae Ratcliff; brothers, Raymon (Joyce)

Dale L. Hanke

Dr. Dale LeRoy Hanke, 85,
of Mankato, died on Monday, September 13, 2010, at the Laurels Peak
Rehabilitation Center.
A service celebrating
Dale’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, September 27, at
the Zion
Evangelical Church in Brownsville, Minnesota. Visitation will be
one hour before the services at the church, with burial
following in the Brownsville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,
memorials may be given to the International Student
Endowment Fund at the Minnesota State University, Mankato,
Christ the King Music Fund or to the donor’s choice.
Dale was born to Roy and
Freda Hanke on January 25, 1925 in Brownsville, Minnesota. He
attended grade school in Brownsville and graduated from the
Caledonia High School, Caledonia, Minnesota. He was a 1945
graduate of Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and received
his Masters of Arts Degree in 1950 and his Doctor of
Education in 1962, both from the University of Wyoming,
Laramie, Wyoming. On June 14, 1947, he was
united in marriage to Donna J. Gutteboe in Capron,
Illinois. During their 63 years of marriage they lived and
worked in many communities in Wisconsin, Iowa, South Dakota,
Wyoming and Minnesota. Dale was an educator for 46 plus
years, serving as a teacher, coach, band director, school
superintendent, college professor and college administrator.
Dale was a member of
the Christ the King Lutheran Church, having served at one time
as congregational president. He was also president of the
Retired Teachers Association of Minnesota (REAM), Lieutenant
Governor of Kiwanis International and was on the Minnesota
State Board of Community Education. He enjoyed sports,
fishing and camping along with traveling the country. He
visited all 50 states and many foreign countries. As a young
adult Dale played banjo in Hanke’s Harmonizers, his family’s
dance band and played the bass horn in various old-time
dance bands in the La Crosse, Wisconsin area, and in Sig’s Band, a
community band in Forest City.
Besides his wife, Donna,
Dale is survived by daughters, Donnelle (Joe) Casler of
Columbia, Missouri and Deanne (Mark) Saari of Rush City,
Minnesota; daughter-in-law, Sandra Block of Minneapolis,
Minnesota; eight grandchildren, David Casler (fiancée, Kelly
Small) of Warrensburg, Missouri, Douglas (Alison) Casler of St.
Peters, Missouri, Deborah (Jason) Stanoch of Columbia, Missouri, Jon Hanke (Chris Wick), Chandra Hanke and Anneke (Tapio) Haku,
all of Minneapolis, Asha (Gabriel) Hertler of Fargo, North Dakota
and Matthew Saari of Grand Forks, North Dakota; great-grandchildren, Connor and Claire Casler, Emma and
Jacob Stanoch, Jasper Hanke and Aila, Jackson and Sabrina
Haku; sister, Lois Goetzinger; and
nephew, Mark (Bonnie) Goetzinger and family, all of
Caledonia.
Dale, along with his wife,
was very involved with the International Student
Organization at Minnesota State University and is also
survived by his international family, Tom and Lan Li and
grandson, Jimmy of St. Michael, Minnesota and Yoshie and Hiro
Kobayashi of Kagoshima, Japan.
Dale was preceded in death
by his son, Dale (Lee) Hanke, Jr.; his parents; in-laws,
Nels and Mabelle Gutteboe; sister, June Hanke;
brothers-in-law, Ervin (Casey) Goetzinger and William
Gutteboe; and by two nephews and one niece.
If Dale met you once, he
never forgot you. |

Thompson, died on Thursday, September 30, 2010, at the Good
Samaritan Society in Forest City.
