George Jensvold,
70
March 31, 2010
George Jensvold, 70, of Onamia, Minnesota, formerly of
Buffalo Center, passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at
the St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
His memorial ceremony was
held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, March 23, at the Bethlehem
Lutheran Church in Buffalo Center, with Pastor Perry
Aalgaard officiating. Burial followed in the Graceland
Cemetery in Buffalo Center.
George Albert Jensvold,
was born on June 6,1939 in Buffalo Center, to Sidney and
Ethel (Nesheim) Jensvold. He graduated from the Buffalo
Center High School in 1957 and went on to attend Luther
College in Decorah and Waldorf College in Forest City.
George's college career was cut short due to the sudden
passing of his father. In 1987, George graduated from the
Brainerd Community College and he would always laugh and say
“It only took 30 years, that's worse than the 8 years in 2nd
grade!!”
In 1959, George married
Joy Orthel and they had 4 children, Susan (Steve Bosma) of
Buffalo Center, Anthony (Fran) of Brainerd, Minnesota, Todd
also of Brainerd and Mary (Rande Giesking) of Lakota, Iowa.
In 1979, George married Donna Sherburne and added 5
step-children to the fold, Tom Allen (Lisa), Jeanette Allen,
Bruce Allen (Amanda), Charlie Sherburne (Rachel) and Marc
Sherburne. Although all nine of the “Brady Bunch” rarely
were together at the same time, George always enjoyed
getting as many together as possible.
He, along with his
brothers, owned and operated Jensvold's Incorporated. He
spoke often of the wonderful friends he made during this
time. George was highly respected in the world of Implement
sales. In 1983, George left Jensvold's Incorporated to
embark in a new adventure on Lake Mille Lac, Minnesota. He
and Donna purchased the “Rainbow Inn” resort. Due to sagging
economic times George left the resort business. He tried his
hand at a variety of jobs and eventually found his calling
at Nexus Academy working with troubled teen boys. George
retired in 2001 from Nexus Academy where he was a night
counselor. George and Donna truly enjoyed the beauty of the
Mille Lac Lakes area and this was his home until his
passing. George always enjoyed his trips back to Buffalo
Center and made it a priority to visit as many dear friends
as possible.
George and his family were
very proud when he celebrated 30 years of sobriety in June
2008. He enjoyed photography, traveling, gardening, sports
(Go Vikings!!) and family events, especially the annual
Jensvold klub get together! George was so disappointed he
was missing klub this year we actually smuggled some into
the hospital. He worked his persuasive magic on his nurses
and enjoyed every single bite!! He never missed a chance to
cheer for his kids and grandkids. He had the reputation for
telling stories and jokes and enjoyed the laughter they
brought.
George died peacefully
surrounded by family on Wednesday, March 17, 2010.
He is survived by his wife
of 30 years, Donna; his four children and five
step-children; 25 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren;
brothers, Bill (Nancy) of Buffalo Center and Marc (Pat) of
Houston, Texas; sister-in-law, Deb Jensvold of Buffalo
Center. Also left to honor his memory are his extended
family, brother-in-law, Eldon (Geneva) Thornber and
sisters-in-law, Sue Christensen and Sandra Thornber, all of
Colman, South Dakota and brother-in-law, Clayton (Marlene)
Thornber of Chilton, Wisconsin; and many nieces, nephews,
cousins and very dear friends.

by his parents; grandson, Marshall; and brothers, Bryant and
Dick.
