Wayne Allen Rosenberg

Red Wing, Minnesota-Wayne Allen Rosenberg, 73, formerly of St. Ansgar, Iowa,
died on Thursday, April 23, 2010 at the Red Wing Health Center, Red Wing, MN.

Funeral service were on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at the Emmanuel Lutheran
Church, Grafton, Iowa with Rev. Ron Bolinger officiating. Burial was in the
Grafton Cemetery.

Wayne Allen Rosenberg was born on Oct. 3, 1936 to Eddie and Ella Rosenberg, St
Ansgar, Ia. He was baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton, Ia. After graduating from Grafton High School, he spent two years in the U.S. Army.

He was employed by Wilson and Company, Colorado, and then returned to
help his father farm. Later, he moved to Rochester, MN, where he worked for Crenlo. He later moved to Chester Heights, MN where he retired.

He enjoyed sports events, horses, traveling, playing guitar and singing. 

He is survived by a sister, Evelyn Fox (Lenard) Osage, Ia, brothers Dale (Delrose)
Mason City, Ia, Gene (Betty) Grafton, Ia and sister Janice Weinschenk (Russell)
Rochester, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Glenn
(Arlene).



Duane C. Ensrud

SIOUX CITY - Duane C. Ensrud, 81, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday,
April 14, 2010, at a local hospital. Services were held at First United Methodist Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating.
Interment followed the funeral at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation was
held at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Duane was born in Marathon County, Wis., on Dec. 25, 1928, the son of
Northrup and Florence (Cornwall) Ensrud. Duane was raised in Mitchell County, Iowa, and came to Sioux City in the early 1950s.

He was employed by F.W. Means Company-Clean Towel Service and later by Kaiser Surgical Supply where he worked in the arehouse and delivery.

Duane enjoyed square dancing, traveling, music and reading. He was very
fond of all animals.

Duane will be missed by his family which includes his two daughters, Linda
Heinse (Larry) of Sioux City, and Debra Loucks of Tampa, Fla.; four grandchildren,
Nicole Morrison, Melissa Shrum, Stephanie Kividera and Stacy Heinse; two great-grandsons, Sam and Ben Kividera; his brother, Robert Ensrud of Mississippi;
along with many nieces and nephews.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents.


Duncan Deaver

Duncan Deaver , age 88, of St. Ansgar died peacefully at his daughter ’ s home in St. Ansgar on April 21, 2010. His body has been cremated and Graveside Services were Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone with Rev. Andrea Kraushaar officiating. Military Honors were conducted by the Boone Veterans Council and burial followed.

Duncan was born February 17, 1922, in Sabetha, Kansas, the son of Coral and
Almeda (Wittwer) Deaver. He married Mary Williams on August 23, 1945, in San
Diego, California.

Duncan served with the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Western Star #26 A.F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge in Albert
Lea, Minnesota, a member of the V.F.W., and also the Marine Corps League.

Duncan worked for Safeway, Inc. for over 50 years, working in the Boone, Ames, and Onawa stores.

Duncan was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary, two sons Fredrick
and David, a sister Betty Tregaskes, and a granddaughter Susan Pickrel.

He is survived by four daughters, Mary Ann Taylor and husband Barry of St. Ansgar, Kathy Lonergan and husband Dave of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Edra Fouts and husband Steve of Norwalk, and Nancy Moore of Lake Mills; eight grandchildren: Andrew (Karen) Bowman, Jacob (Melissa) Reynoldson, Brenda Huff, Michael (Valerie) Fouts, Jill Fouts, Jennifer (Scott) Lefton, Caitlin Moore, and Mariah Moore; three great grandchildren: Dakota Fouts, Dayton Fouts, and Emily
Huff; and a sister Carol Hall of Howell, Michigan. He will be sorely missed by his
beloved Boston Bulldog, Miss Holly.

“You will continue to always be in our hearts no matter the distance between
us. We will always smile when we think of you. Thank you, Dad, for the gift
of humor that is helping us get through this very sad time without you. We will
love you forever. Say ‘hi’ to the gang for us; we’ll all be together again someday.”

Laura A. Witt

Laura Alida (Nelson) Witt, age 99, of Osage, passed away Friday, May 7, 2010, at
Good Samaritan Society-St. Ansgar. Laura was born May 20, 1910, near Otranto, the daughter of Emil G. and Matilda (Ask) Nelson. She graduated from the Otranto
Consolidated School and Hamilton Business College in Mason City. She was
employed at the Mitchell County Farm Bureau Office and the American Crystal
Sugar Company in MasonCity.

Laura married Roy Witt on May 20, 1939. They farmed together until 1980.
Laura taught Sunday school at the Plymouth Methodist Church for many years.

She was passionate about gardening, baking and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services was held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at Our Savior’s
Lutheran Church in Osage, with Rev. Dennis Hanson and Rev. Roy Ott officiating.
Burial was in the Osage Cemetery.

Laura is survived by her son , Jon Roy Witt and wife Janet of Osage; 3 Grandchildren, Linda Kuehne and special friend Phil Kolbet of Osage; Julie Fuller and husband Tim of West Des Moines; Alan Witt and  wife Jill of Osage; 9 Great Grandchildren, Bradie Kuehne, Jacey Kuehne, Whitney Fuller, Hannah Fuller, Shea
Fuller, Jenna Fuller, Addy Witt, Riley Witt, and Regan Witt.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Witt (1992); her parents; four
sisters; and three brothers.

Irene J. Hackbart

Irene J. Hackbart, age 85, of Grafton, died Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 24, 2010, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton with Rev. Ronald Bolinger officiating. Burial was in the Grafton Cemetery.

Irene was born June 24, 1924, in St. Ansgar, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and
Anna (Neuman) Behl. She attended grade school in St. Ansgar and then moved with her family to a farm southeast of Grafton. She graduated from Plymouth High
School. Irene was united in marriage to Walter Hackbart on December 29, 1946, at
Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton. They farmed in the Grafton area all of their lives. Irene was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church for over 70 years. She was very active in church activities and taught Sunday School for several
years. She was also very active in volunteering in her community. Irene enjoyed
baking, artistic painting, cooking, and especially loved spending time with her family.

Irene is survived by her children, Philip (Gloria) Hackbart of Kensett, James (Karen) Hackbart of Plymouth, Minnesota, Kathy (Mark) Johnson of Ankeny, Paul (special friend, Kim Hackbart of Grafton; ten grandchildren; 13 greatgrandchildren;
and a sister, Pearl (John) Sauke  of Story City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter Hackbart in 1986; her infant son, Mark; and a sister, Shirley Roisen.


Birchard Bower

Birchard Bower, age 91, of Osage, died Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 21, 2010, at the United Church of Christ in Osage with Pastor Ruth Moerdyk officiating. Burial was in the Osage Cemetery.

Birchard was born July 14, 1918, near Mitchell, Iowa, the son of Robert and Tessie
(Klar) Bower. He attended school in Mitchell and graduated from Mitchell Consolidated High School in 1936.

On September 19, 1944, he married Ethel Womack. They adopted a son, James,
and made their home on a farm near Osage. Ethel died in 1984. Birchard married
Sandra (Hill) Balsley on March 12, 1991. Birchard farmed his entire life. He
received the Iowa Jaycees Outstanding Young Iowa Farmer Award in May of
1952. Birchard enjoyed sports and loved socializing with family and friends.

Birchard is survived by his wife, Sandra Bower of Osage; his sister, Harriet
Heuer of St. Ansgar; six stepchildren and their families; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ethel Bower; his son, James Bower; a brother, Keith Bower; and a sister, Kathleen Rowe.


Anita Ryan

Anita Maria (Tuttle) Ryan, age 69, of Lyle, died Saturday, May 22, 2010 at her home after fighting cancer for the past 10 years.

Anita was born January 6, 1941 in Searcy, Arkansas and moved to Minnesota in 1969. She married Dennis Ryan. Anita ran a daycare in Austin, Minnesota for 17 years and ran Grumpy's Bar in St. Ansgar, Iowa for 10 years. She was a homemaker for the last four years.

Anita also played on several pool leagues in Minnesota and Iowa.

Survivors include her husband, Dennis Ryan, Lyle, Mn; children, Terry (Rodger)
Evans, Sallisaw, Ok, David Wayne Lederhos, Kansas City, Mo, Lori Anne (Mark)
Wanous, Owatonna, Mn, Kristie Lederhos, North Carolina, Keith (Mel) Ryan,
Rose Creek, Mn; 10 grandchildren; one great grandson; brothers, Kenneth
(Sheila) Tuttle, Fort Smith, Ar, Jack (Faye) Tuttle, Centerton, Ar.

She is preceded in death by her sister, Linda Tuttle; father, Albert Tuttle; mother,
Leona Tuttle.

A memorial service will be held 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Mayer
Funeral Home with Pastor Dale Christiansen officiating. Friends may call from
4-7 pm on Friday and also 1/2 hour before the service at Mayer Funeral Home on
Saturday.
