Maynard J. Johnson St. Ansgar, Iowa- Maynard J. Johnson, 95, formerly of rural Northwood, Iowa, died on March 6, 2010 at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 1:30 PM at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, Iowa, with Rev, Gary Gonnerman officiating. Burial will be in the Deer Creek Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar and one hour prior to service at the church. Maynard was born on August 28, 1914 in Deer Creek Township, Worth County, Iowa, to John and Maria (Gordon) Johnson. He was baptized in Deer Creek Lutheran Church by Rev. Waldeland and confirmed in Rev. O.E. Langehough’s first confirmation class at Deer Creek Lutheran on June 3, 1928. He was educated at Deer Creek #3 school. On February 14, 1947 Maynard was united in marriage to Viola Borcherding in the First Lutheran Parsonage, St. Ansgar by Rev. O.A. Langehough. He farmed all his life on the Johnson family farm. Maynard moved into the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center in the spring of 2008. He was a faithful and a lifetime member of the Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Viola; two brothers Lloyd and Arthur; two sisters, Selma Perkins and Alice Johnson. Maynard is survived by sisters-in law, Marion Borcherding of St.Ansgar and Mary Johnson of Northwood, Iowa; brother-in-law, Raymond Borcherding of St. Ansgar; several nieces and nephews. Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, IA. 641-713-4920 Enid Patterson St. Ansgar - Enid Patterson, 91, passed away Saturday (March 13, 2010) at Good Samaritan Home in St. Ansgar. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday (March 19) at Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church, rural Lyle, MN, with Pastor Lydia Mittag officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday (March 18) at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar. Enid Clarice Patterson, the daughter of Oscar and Rena (Nelson) Sampson, was born on the family farm near Lyle, MN on February 16. 1919. She was baptized and confirmed at Six Mile Grove Church where she was a life-long member and an active volunteer. Enid was united in marriage to Donald Patterson March 20, 1941 at the parsonage in Lyle. They farmed near Toeterville, IA where they raised their three children: a daughter, Shirley Mae, and two sons, David and Duane. Enid loved to sew and made quilts for all of her children and grandchildren. She also spent many happy hours quilting with the ladies at Six Mile Grove Church. Enid's other interests were needlework, trying new recipes, and she was an avid reader. After retiring from the farm, she and Don were able to travel extensively, visiting family across the country. Enid is survived by her husband of almost 69 years, Don; son David (Betty) of Apple Valley, CA; son Duane of St. Ansgar; and dear friend and caretaker, Linda Currens of St. Ansgar. Grandchildren: Scott Patterson (and special friend Jodie Colwell) and Scott's children, Corey and Megan of Apple Valley, CA; Jeff Patterson (Jillean) and children Zyzick, Killian and Seth Patterson, Breanna, Shyanna, Adreanna and Bryson Urick of Apple Valley, CA; Darin Patterson (Kristy) and children Keylee, Wyatt and Rowan of Hesperia, CA. Dawn Ratashak (Josh) and children Colby and Xander of Springfield, OR. She is also survived by sisters Millie (Keith) Westling of Osage and Marilyn (Dean) Rockafellow of St. Ansgar; brother Russell (Gladys) Sampson of St. Ansgar; sisters-in-law Neva Nelson of St. Ansgar, Helen Debner of Marble Rock, Lois (Walt) Benesh of Austin, MN, Ruth Patterson of Osage and Mildred Patterson of Osage; brother-in-law John (Fran) Patterson of St. Ansgar; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Shirley Mae Patterson; great-grandson Trenton Patterson; sister and brother-in-law Cleo and Kenneth Weness; nephews Rick Nelson and John Nelson; brothers-in-law Max Patterson, Darrell Patterson, Otto Nelson and Clarence Debner. |
