Gerald Charles Hohn

Brooklyn Park, MN- Gerald Charles Hohn, 61, formerly of St. Ansgar, Iowa, died
on January 28, 2010 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  Mass of Christian Burial was
held on Monday, February 1, 2010, in Brooklyn Park, MN., with burial in the
St. Ansgar Cemetery on Tuesday, February 2, 2010.
 Gerald Charles Hohn was born in Charles City, Iowa to Almond P. and Rita
(Roth) Hohn.  Gerald was a graduate of St. Ansgar High School in Iowa.  He was
united in marriage to Susan Katherine Haglund on June 20,
1969 at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Minneapolis.  Gerald and Sue resided
in Minneapolis for one year, and then moved to Watertown, Minnesota.  In 1990
they moved to Plymouth, and since 1994 had resided in Brooklyn Park.  Gerald
had worked his entire career in Minneapolis first with Liton Co, then Theele
Engineering, MGS Corporation, and currently with Tech Logic.  His wife Sue
preceded him in death on October 20, 2006.  Gerald was a longtime member of
St. Gerard's Catholic Church Brooklyn Park.  He enjoyed time spent with his
family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
 
He is survived by his son Gerald (Lisa) Hohn, Jr. of St. Clair; by his
grandchildren Jaysen and Jolissa Hohn, Sammy and Anthony Lemke; by his fiancee
Sylvia Diekman of Kasson; by his mother Rita Hohn of St. Ansgar, IA and his
brother Dennis Hohn of Ankeny, IA; by his sisters Marlene
(Dennie) Lippitt of Monticello, and Elaine Warner of Byron; by his brothers-
in-law Robert Bzoskie of Kasson, and Richard (Anna) Haglund of Ewa Beach, HI;
by many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
 
He was preceded in death by his wife, his father in 2005, and his sister Mary
Broskie in 2007; by four sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, and by his
father-in-law and mother-in-law Kenneth and Berniece Haglund.

John Christian Sorlien

John Christian Sorlien, 87 of Portland, Oregon, passed away Wednesday,
February 3, 2010, in Gresham, Oregon. He was born on April 7, 1922 in Hesper,
Iowa to Olvin and Selma (Burreson) Sorlien. He graduated from Luther College
March of 1943 as part of the V7 program..After Navy training at New York City
he was commisioned

Lt. (j.g) John Sorlien, serving on an LST in the Mediterranean for 16 months.
He was a communcations officer serving with invasions of Italy and southern
France. When he returned to the states he was stationed at Portland, Oregon. .
John married Anna May Lettow on August 11, 1945 in Portland Oregon. Fall of
1946 John was teaching at Olivia, MN. They moved to Portland where he worked
as an accountant for a variety of grain companies from 1947 until his
retirement in 1984. He was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He
enjoyed woodworking and was able to build his own home. John was an
accomplished musician, playing the organ and accordion, and was active for
many years with the church.

He is survived by his wife, Ann of Portland, Oregon; sons, Peter
Sorlien(Jean) of Fairview, Oregon and Steven Sorlien (Joyce) of Tualatin,
Oregon; grandchildren Holly Jesse, Daniel Sorlien, Scott Sorlien, Brian
Sorlien, Matthew Sorlien and Eric Sorlien and five great grandchildren.

Also surviving are his brother, Paul (Sandra) Sorlien of Underwood, IA;
sisters: Naomi Jasmer of Willmar, MN; Grace (Norbert) Johnson of St.
Ansgar, IA; Ruth (E.J.) Larson of Austin, MN; Lois Fossen of Minnetonka, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. S.O.(Selma) Sorlien and his
sister, Eunice Chomicz.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, February 19, 2010 at 2:00 pm at
Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.

Carl Dean Belz

St. Ansgar, Iowa---Carl Dean Belz, 80, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, died on
February 18, 2010 at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center.   Private
family service will be at a later date.
 
Carl Dean Belz was born September 25, 1929 in Worth County, Iowa to
Lawrence and Ruth (Greiner) Belz.  He served in the United States Army
during the Korean War. He married Glenda Blakestad on March 10, 1967. 
After being discharged from the Army, he began farming and was in the
poultry business for several years.  His last job was driving LP gas
truck.  Carl enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, coffee with
friends, playing cribbage and reading.
 
He is survived by his wife Glenda, of St. Ansgar; son Shannon (Nikki)
Belz of Osage; daughters Holli (Scot)Schweinfurth of Garner, and Heidi
(Chris) Jax of Rose Creek, MN.  Two sisters Evelyn Olson of Ramsey, MN
and Sylvia Olson of New Brighton, MN.  Eight grandchildren Saylor, Gage,
and Sadie Belz; Abigail,Blake and Cody Schweinfurth;  Tayler and Karter Jax.

Luella Kuhlmann Leidal

Northwood, IA--Luella (Mom) Genette (Holstad) Kuhlmann Leidal passed
away February 18, 2010, at the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood,
Iowa, surrounded by her loving family.   Funeral service will be on
Monday, February 22, 2010 at 1:00 PM at the First Lutheran Church,
Northwood, with Rev. Daniel Hart officiating.  Burial will be in the
Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood.  Visitation will be on Sunday, from
5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Northwood.

Luella was born March 7, 1915, the fifth of the eleven children of
Bendik and Hilda (Erickson) Holstad, in Montpelier, North Dakota.  She
was baptized in Ypsilanti, North Dakota.  The family moved to Northwood,
Iowa, in 1918.  She was confirmed at the North Shell Rock Lutheran
Church, Northwood.  Luella and her sisters sang at many church, school,
and social functions; Bendik was always happy to take “his girls”
wherever they were invited to sing.

Luella graduated from Northwood High School in 1933, taking Normal
(teacher‘s) training during high school.  She also attended summer
school at Teachers’s College, Cedar Falls, Iowa.  She taught in several
area schools and always enjoyed keeping in contact with her students
over the years.

On June 21, 1936, Luella married Vernon Kuhlmann.  He was killed in a
traffic accident in October, 1936, and she returned to live with her
parents.  Her daughter, LaVerne, was born June 10, 1937.  Luella married
Curtis Leidal on September 21, 1940, in Northwood, Iowa, and Curtis
adopted LaVerne.  Luella and Curtis had four more children: Karen,
LeRoy, Kathy, and Kevin.  They farmed east of Northwood until 1965, when
they moved into Northwood.  They also lived briefly in Charles City,
Iowa, then returned to Northwood for the last of their 69 years of marriage.

Luella was a homemaker, Sunday School teacher, enjoyed bible studies ,
and was one of the first women to serve on the First Lutheran Church
council.  She enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s activities wherever
they might be.  She was always ready to read a story to them.

Luella is survived by her husband, Curtis, Northwood; sons: Leroy
(Lonna) Leidal, Hudson, Wi, Kevin (Becky) Leidal, Solon, IA; daughter
Kathy (Tom) Christianson, Northwood, IA; and son-in-law Kenneth
Fredrickson, Grafton, IA.

Memorials can be given in her memory to Opportunity Village, Clear Lake,
IA; the Lutheran Retirement Home Auxilary, Northwood, IA; or the choir
fund of the First Lutheran Church, Northwood, IA.

David Allen Rawn

David Allen Rawn, 59 of Lyle, MN died Friday February 19th at his son’s home in Eden Prairie surrounded by his loving family.

David was born July 26, 1950 at Austin, Minnesota, the son of Lewis and Wilma (Sutton) Rawn. David’s mother died when he was a small child and he was raised by his grandmother, Clara Rawn.  He graduated from the Lyle High School and was married to Sheryl Ludwig at Estherville, IA.

David trained and worked as a chef before going to work in the building
and grounds department of St. Olaf Hospital/Austin Medical Center in
Austin. He was also the 6^th generation to farm the Rawn family farm in
rural Lyle.  In recent years David and Sheryl opened and operated Laser
Lane Engraving, located in Austin and more recently at the family farm
in Lyle.

David was a member of St Peter Lutheran Church, Toeterville, IA where he
served on the church council and enjoyed cooking for the “fish fry”
events at the church. He was an animal lover and volunteer with the
humane society as well as enjoying woodworking. David possessed a great
love for his family which has led to a close and strongly bonded family.

David was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Lewis Rawn, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Sheryl Rawn, Lyle, MN; Sons and  families;
David and Pam Rawn and their children Kya and Nicholas of Champlain, MN;
Jason (Jake) and Renee Rawn and son Michael; Sister-in-law; Sherry Rawn,
Osage, IA; Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Am Tuesday February 23^rd at the
St. Peter Lutheran Church in Toeterville, IA. Interment will be at
Woodbury Cemetery, Lyle, MN.  Friends may call at the Clasen-Jordan
Mortuary in Austin from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Monday and at the church for one
hour before the service on Tuesday morning.


Alton B. Wilder    


Alton Wilder, age 85, of Lyle, MN, a member of the “Greatest
Generation,” passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2010, after a tough and courageous battle with cancer..

A funeral service in celebration of Alton’s life will be held at  11:00
a.m., Monday, March 1, 2010, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with Pastor Debra Lincoln of Jordan River and Colwell U.C.C.
officiating.  There will be a time of fellowship following the service at the American Legion Post in Osage. Internment will be at the Woodbury Cemetery, rural Lyle, MN at 2:00 p.m. Monday. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m., Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Alton was born February 7, 1925, in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Irving
and Lillian (Corrigan) Wilder.  He was raised on the family farm.  Alton
attended Otranto School until his senior year when he transferred to and
graduated from Lyle High School.  He then attended Iowa State University
until entering the United States Army in February 1943.  Alton served as
a member of the 11^th Airborne Division in the Pacific Theater.  Alton
married Virginia Pless, February 8, 1948 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in
Austin, MN.  He farmed until 1983 when Alton co-founded Iowa Cattle
Marketing and served as it’s manager until 2000 and then as their cattle
broker until he retired at the age of 83.  Alton also served on the Lyle
School Board from 1958 to 1961.  Alton enjoyed reading, storytelling,
history and current events, gardening, traveling, sports, but mostly his
family and friends.  Alton was a very persuasive and compassionate
person and would help others achieve almost anything.  During the past
months that compassion was reciprocated by the First Responders of Lyle,
Gold Cross Ambulance Service, physicians:  David Schrodt, Walter Bate,
Mark Haganman, the staff at Mitchell County Regional Health Center,
Floyd County Memorial Hospital and Chautauqua Guest Homes.

*Alton** is survived by *his two daughters, Nancy (Jack) Banda of
Wildomar, CA; Roxanne Wilder of Eagan, MN; a son, Kevin ( Mari ) Wilder
of Kirkland, WA; 4 grandchildren, Ryan, Aaron, Cole and Lauren; 2 great-grandchildren, Madison and Adam; close friend and companion, Gladys “Glady” Siems of Charles City; 2 sisters, Amy (Chuck) Fischer of Eagan, MN; Marian Jones of Lacey, WA.

He was preceded in death by *his parents, his wife, a sister and an infant sister.

Eugene Allen Bartz

Grafton , IA --Eugene Allen Bartz, 74, of Grafton died December 22, 2009 at his home.  Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on March 6, 2010 at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Hwy 65 South in Northwood.
Gene was born March 2, 1935, Son of Alvin and Vera (Hartwig) Bartz. He was baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton , IA. 

He graduated from Grafton High School , Class of 1953. He married Joann
Heizelman on March 4, 1956. They had four children.   He farmed all his
life in the Grafton area.


He is preceded in death by his son Michael Bartz, mother Vera Bartz and
father Alvin Bartz, brother Roger Bartz.


He is survived by: Daughter Bonnie (and Dean) Crosier of Bloomington,
IL., Granddaughter Kathryn (and Matthew) Lollar and great grand children
Bridget and Graham; Grandson Kelsey Thayer; Grandsons Adam and Trevor
Bartz (sons of the late Michael Bartz) of Northwood, IA; Daughter Brenda
(and Greg) Evenson of Boone, IA; Grandsons Ryan Billings and Karl
Billings; Son Mark (and Rebecca) Bartz of Mason City, IA;  the
children’s mother Joann Bartz of Mason City, IA; his sister Marjorie
Lane of Minneapolis, MN.


Raymond J. Konrad


Carpenter- Raymond J. Konrad, 93, of St. Ansgar, formerly of Carpenter,
died on Sunday, February 28, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa,
Mason City, Iowa.   Funeral service will be on Saturday, March 6, 2010,
at 10:30 AM at the St. Ansgar Baptist Church, St. Ansgar, with Pastors
Gary Gonnerman, Joel Konrad and Mark Konrad officiating.  Burial will be
in the Newburg Cemetery, Carpenter, Iowa.  Visitation will be on Friday
from 4:00 to 7:00 at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.

Raymond John Konrad went home to be with the Lord just shy of 94 years
old. He was born in Tripp, South Dakota On March 19, 1916 to Ida Mayer
Konrad and John Konrad. Ray moved to Carpenter,  Ia as a young man to
work driving truck for the elevator. This is where he met Jean and on
February 22, 1941 they were married in Osage, Ia. Ray served overseas
during WWII as an airplane mechanic. He then returned home bought a corn
sheller and started his own business, finally going into farming.  Ray
and Jean raised five children and the family is still growing. Ray came
to know Christ as his Savior as a young man and His children and
grandchildren are  thankful for the legacy of faith that he left.  What
an amazing God!

Raymond is survived by his children; Dian and her husband Rodger
Hoelscher, Green IA, Carol and her husband Glenn Nelson, Hudson, WI,
Joel and his wife Linda Konrad, Forest Grove, OR, Mark and his wife
DeeAnn Konrad, Tigard, OR, Lois and her husband EuiHum Paik, Beaverton
OR. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by his wife of 57 years Ruth Jean Anderson
Konrad, his parents, his brothers Harvey and Howard and a sister Ruth
Brooks, bother-in-laws Cleo Brooks and Neil Wiley, two grandchildren and
one great-grandchild.
