Dockstader, 83, who died December 23, 2001, will be held Friday,
January 4, 2002 in Webster City. Roy Leonard Hanson Funeral January 3 January 10, 2002 Funeral services for Roy Leonard Hanson, 93, of St. Ansgar, who died Saturday, January 5, 2002 at the North Iowa Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, were held Wednesday, January 2 at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, with the Rev. Kathy Larson officiating. Roy Leonard Hanson was born on November 17, 1908 in Worth County, rural Carpenter, to Hans Peter and Lena Severson Hanson. He became a child of God in baptism on December 26, 1908 at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter with the Rev. M. E. Waldeland officiating. He was confirmed March 16, 1923 by Rev. M. E. Waldeland. He graduated from Carpenter High School in 1925 and was the last living member of this class. He never married and lived his life on the farm where he was born and raised. He began renting his cropland out in 1978 while continuing to raise Herefords. Roy took pride in raising top quality Hereford cattle. A pair of his calves were featured on the June 1979 front cover of the American Hereford Journal. He also served on the board of directors and became president of the Worth County Coop Oil from 1954 to 1975. He entered the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center in November 1999. Roy is survived by nieces and nephews and their families: Ivadene Dale of San Jose, California; Horace Hendrickson and wife Ann of Northwood; Marcella Olson and husband Ron of Apple Valley, Minnesota; Ardis Sorenson and husband Carroll of Thornton, Colorado; Duane Hanson and wife Sharon of Thompson, North Dakota; Merle Hanson and wife Jeanette of Northwood; Sharyl Engelhardt and husband Jon of Adel; Ivanell Howard and husband Earle of Granby, Colorado; and Audrey McIntosh and husband Richard of Jefferson City, Missouri. Roy was preceded in death by his father 1912, his mother 1955, a brother Mervin 1929; a brother Alfred 1969; a sister Gilma Hendrickson 2000. Burial was at First Lutheran Cemetery in St. Ansgar. ©St. Ansgar Enterprise Journal 2002 Hazel Ruth Young Funeral January 10 January 10, 2002 Funeral services for Hazel Ruth Young, 98, of New Hampton, formerly of St. Ansgar, who died Sunday, January 6, 2002 in New Hampton, will be held on Thursday, January 10 at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home here with the Rev. Jay Amundson officiating. Hazel Ruth Young was born at Fairbanks, Iowa to Patrick and Bertha Young. She never married. She enjoyed working with her flowers and plants and enjoyed her dog, walking and reading books. She was a member of the Methodist Church and lived in St. Ansgar most of her life. She moved to the New Hampton Nursing Home until her death. Hazel is survived by nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and their children.She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Herbert and Winston, and one sister, Clara. Burial was in the St. Ansgar Cemetery. ©St. Ansgar Enterprise Journal 2002 Glenn Markham Funeral January 7 January 10, 2002 Funeral services for Glenn W. Markham, 84, of Osage, who died Thursday, January 3 at Faith Home in Osage, were held Monday, January 7 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osage, with the Rev. Philip Recker officiating. Glenn W. Markham was born March 24, 1917, in Burr Oak Township, Mitchell County, the son of William O. and Adeline (McGrane) Markham. He attended country schools. He was united in marriage to Shirley Duenow on March 31, 1937. They farmed in Burr Oak Township until 1965 when they moved to Osage. They owned and operated the Plaza Cafe for 17 years until retirement. They have continued to live in Osage. Glenn was a lifetime member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Lions Club and Farm Bureau.Glenn is survived by his wife, Shirley of Osage; five sons. William and wife Elaine Markham of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Ronald and wife Kristine Markham of Parkers Prairie, Minnesota; Richard and wife Marjorie Markham of Osage; Robert and wife Kate Markham of Lakeside, California; Keith and wife Jessica Markham of Gig Harbor, Washington; four daughters, Janice and husband John Dempsey of Osage; Barbara Markham of Osage; Joan Blake of St. Ansgar; Patricia and husband Roger Karau of Savage, Minnesota; a brother James Markham and wife Ruth of The Rock, Georgia; a sister Katherine and husband Frank Laskos of Oregon, Illinois; 24 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Jean Olson, two sons-in-law, Dean Penney and Tom Blake. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Osage. ©St. Ansgar Enterprise Journal 2002 Esther Abbott Funeral January 10 January 10, 2002 Funeral services for Esther V. Abbott, 96, of St. Ansgar, who died on Sunday, January 6, 2002 at the Stacyville Nursing Home, Stacyville, will be held Thursday (today) January 10 at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Robert Porisch officiating. Esther Vivian Hendrickson Abbott was born on the family farm west of St. Ansgar on July 20, 1905, She was the daughter of Henry O. Hendrickson and Elizabeth Satre Hendrickson. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church by Rev. Waldeland. She attended the St. Ansgar Schools and graduated in June 1923. She graduate from St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota with a BA degree in June, 1927. She continued her education by attending summer sessions at the University of Minnesota and taught several years in Minnesota schools.On July 20, 1944 she married Mark M. Abbott of International Falls, Minnesota with Rev. O. Langehough performing the ceremony at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar. She continued to live in International Falls where she was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She was active in both church and civic affairs. After her husband's death in 1972 she moved to St. Ansgar to make her home with her brother Otto. Esther is survived by nieces, Jean (Mrs. Sam Edgar) of St. Louis, Missouri; Mary (Mrs. Tom Cederland) of Grantham, NH; Don Hendrickson and wife Leanna of St. Ansgar; David Hendrickson and wife Mary Jo of Keokuk; and Bartlett Hendrickson and wife Frances of Rockville, Maryland and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Mark, her parents, brothers Otto, Morris and Roy. Burial will be in the Paynesville Cemetery, Paynesville, Minnesota on Friday, January 11, 2002. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the church on Thursday. ©St. Ansgar Enterprise Journal 2002 Martin Simon Funeral January 8 January 10, 2002 Funeral services for Martin "Teenie" Simon, 86, of Stacyville, who died Saturday, January 5, 2002, at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home, Stacyville, were held Tuesday, January 8 at Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, with Rev. Joseph Schneider officiating. Martin "Teenie" Simon was born November 11, 1915 in Stacyville, the son of Jacob and Anna (Heaman) Simon. He was a lifelong Stacyville resident attending Catholic School and graduating from Visitation Catholic High School. He was an avid fisherman and cribbage player. He was a member of Visitation Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters.Martin is survived by two sisters, Elizabeth Taylor of Waterloo; Margaret Anderson and husband James of Cedar Falls; a brother, Alfred Simon of Austin, Minnesota; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister Angeline, a sister Marcelline Miller, a brother, Ralph Simon.
